(00:00):
Welcome to this.
Is It The Podcast by ThrivingYinzers.
I'm Sherry.
And I'm Jodi.
We are so glad you're here.
Before we jump into our firstseason as a podcast, we wanted
to give you a quick introductionto what the,"This is It" part of
the podcast title really means, and why it's the foundation of
the podcast.
It's something we say as acommon phrase, but it's also a
(00:22):
mindset.
It's a way of looking at lifethat reminds us...
this is it.
This is the only shot we get.
Time is our most precious andlimited resource.
Once it's gone, we can't get itback.
So we need to focus on whattruly matters, no matter where
we are, what's going on aroundus, or what we're going through.
(00:43):
When we say,"this is it," we'renot telling you to keep pushing
through blindly or pretendeverything's okay.
We're talking about embracinglife as it is and somehow
finding a way forward, one stepat a time.
We understand even taking thefirst step might seem too big
sometimes.
We're having conversations aboutfinding joy again, even in the
(01:04):
smallest moments as we learn toembrace the goodness that
remains around us and find hopein the hard times too.
And during the hard times, it'sreally easy to feel alone, but
know that you're not, we maynever fully understand the
weight of your personal pain, but we see you, we hear you, and
(01:25):
we believe in your strength.
We started this podcast to haveconversations to remind us all
that THIS IS IT! Sherry, whenyou say this is it, what does
that mean to you?
Why did you decide to name thepodcast?
This is it.
The words,"this is it" havecarried me through life's highs
(01:47):
and lows.
And it was because they werewords that were left to me by my
dad when he passed away.
He, had glioblastoma and hewould always say,"write it
down," because he was havingtrouble remembering.
(02:09):
And so he.
Wrote...
He kept a whiteboard, right?
Yeah.
So to keep those notes right?
Yeah.
So first of all, he had awhiteboard where he would keep
track of all of his, appointments and birthdays and
things that he didn't want toforget.
And then in addition to that, wedidn't find out till he had
(02:31):
passed away, but he left uslittle treasures that we found
when we returned from thehospital.
after he had been in thehospital for two weeks and then,
passed away.
Those treasures were littlenotes that he left in all sorts
(02:51):
of random places, and thosenotes were things that he wanted
us to remember and, keep closeto our hearts.
And those notes were thegreatest gifts that he could
have left because his viewpointson life and his wisdom, he
(03:14):
really, it really shined throughright.
Right.
His spirit shined through thosenotes.
They sure did.
And you know, as I said, thosewords really carried me through
some of the hardest days thatfollowed since his passing, but
also through some of the besttimes.
The particular note that I'mreferring to that we found,
(03:36):
said,"Everybody have a nice day.
You only go around once.
This is it." And I've held ontothose words, and again, through
the highs and the lows, theyremind me to embrace the moments
and push through the challenges, and make the most of every
opportunity.
(03:57):
And what he meant was that everyday is a chance to have what he
called a nice day.
In other words, findingsomething good in each day, even
on the darkest ones.
That's such a powerful message,and it's not just about
(04:18):
surviving through life's ups anddowns.
But about actually living it,taking what comes and doing the
best you can with it.
Right, those words again,"Everybody have a nice day.
Remember, you only go aroundonce.
This is it." They remind us thatwe have one life, we have one
chance to make it meaningful.
There is no rewind button.
(04:39):
This is it.
And that's the heart of whatwe're trying to share here.
Life isn't perfect.
It doesn't have to be and itnever will be.
This is it.
So let's embrace the mess andkeep going.
So what does this mean for thepodcast itself?
What can our listeners expectfrom each episode?
On this podcast, we're exploringhow to find strength, hope, and
(05:02):
motivation, even when life doesget tough.
We're talking about resilience, mindset, daily habits, and how
to keep moving, putting one footin front of the other.
We're definitely not here topretend we have all the answers,
but we are here to have realconversations about real life.
Some days are hard.
Some days are messy, but all ofthem are opportunities to keep
(05:24):
showing up, even if it's just atiny bit at a time.
And no matter where we are inlife, there is a way where we
can still make progress.
You don't have to wait foreverything to be perfect.
You don't have to have it allfigured out.
Resilience isn't about rushingto move on.
It's about healing on your owntimeline, in your own way.
(05:45):
No matter how long it takes, you're not alone in the journey
forward.
In the podcast, you can expectreal honest conversations.
We will be covering everythingfrom creating positive habits to
navigating the chaos of everydaylife, and even conquering
overwhelm.
Some episodes will be morelighthearted, others more
(06:08):
reflective, but all will bepractical and real.
We're not here to hand out allthe answers because we don't
have them.
What we do have is a passion forcollecting and sharing stories
of resilience.
We'll be sharing our stories andwe hope to hear yours too.

Now some of you may be wonderingwhat the hell is a thriving
yinzer?
Fair question for our listenerswho aren't from the Pittsburgh
(07:16):
area and maybe haven't heard theterm Yinzer before.
It's a term that we use, whichdescribes somebody from
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, or thesurrounding area, and it comes
from the Pittsburgh dialectwhere the word yinz, YINZ, is a
local version of you all.
When you put the word thrivingwith yinzers, it shifts the
(07:38):
perception of a yinzer from astereotype of rough stubbornness
to a symbol of resilience, adaptability, and personal
growth.
Instead of focusing on theoutdated and sometimes negative
image of a yinzer, as someonewho is stuck in their ways, a
thriving yinzer embraces thebest parts about the Pittsburgh
(07:58):
spirit, the grit, thedetermination, and the
willingness to keep going, andnot only keep going, but find a
way to grow.
Pittsburgh has gone through sometough times for sure, but the
city and its people alwaysbounce back, and that's what
we're about here.
We don't just survive, wethrive.
We're talking about people whowork through the challenges of
(08:21):
life, adapting, growing, andembracing whatever comes their
way.
And that's the kind of attitudewe want to bring to this
podcast.
We're figuring it out as we goand we're sharing it all with
you.
A Thriving Yinzer isn't abouthaving everything figured out.
It's about showing up, doing thework, and knowing you can make
it through even when life ismessy.
(08:42):
These are things that align withthe no nonsense determined
attitude of the Pittsburghspirit and for Yinzer Nation,
for those who have moved away.
This is a way that we hope thatyou can still stay connected to
your roots while growing in newplaces.
So if you're ready to stopwaiting for everything to be
perfect and start making themost of right now, we're so glad
(09:05):
you're here.
We can't wait to take thisjourney with you.
