Speaker 1 (00:05):
excuse me, is anybody
sitting here?
Sorry, this is taken.
Sorry, welcome back to this.
He's taken.
I'm your host, rob miranda.
Sorry for the delay on thisweek's episode, but it's gonna
be a good one to join me as oneof the guests who keeps coming
on for one of some of my bestepisodes, mr brandon cole.
Thank you for coming on,brandon always a pleasure.
(00:25):
Thanks for having me yeah, I'mexcited to have you on because,
like I said, you're reallysaving my ass here by a couple
of me con.
It's just flu season and coldseason.
Everyone who has been supposedto be coming on the podcast has
been getting uh, chills, andthis new person who's supposed
to be coming on pretty soon.
It's midterm seasons for them,so like it's kind of a busy time
of the year, but I'm notcomplaining about it because
it's a slower time for themovies.
(00:46):
It's gonna, if this is thesummertime, I'm gonna be more
upset about it.
You know, I was thinking thismorning um, I think I can
probably count on just two handshow many times I've been in the
movies this year whole yearokay, I am, uh, we're in a
similar boat, um, I think, Ithink I may have finally got to
double digits, but it's startingto ramp up.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
This is the fun part.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
Well, there's a lot
of movies out there that I want
to see.
There's the Black Bag, a coupleother ones I had my eye on, but
I'm just busy.
It's a busy time of the yearfor me, meeting people and stuff
like that.
Actually, starting next week,it's a podcast convention in
chicago.
I'm going to be busy with youin the whole week, so but, um,
(01:30):
how are you feeling about themovie?
So far?
I go ahead, you can go firstI'm uh, I'm cautiously.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
I'm waiting for the,
for the ramp up man.
I've been surprised with a fewthis year, but a lot of just
been dumps and, like I, I knowthat last year we came off a not
so great movie year.
We are still feeling theeffects of the strike and
everything going on, but I thinkwe're going to be in a much
better place.
What about you?
Speaker 1 (01:57):
So far, yeah, pretty
good.
I mean, there's some surprises, like some of the movies we're
talking about today.
We're going to be talking aboutNovocaine and Companion.
These ones are, you know, youcall them dumps, but I
personally felt they were goodenough to be released in May,
maybe even June.
Okay, but we're going to getinto it because they're not
doing that hot right now, so youknow.
(02:20):
But other, better movies,what's that?
What says I want?
And kiki palmer, that was a funone to watch.
I think I've seen that twiceactually in theaters.
Okay, uh, other than that, there's nothing that stood off
the top of my head.
I'm sure I'm forgetting acouple of good ones out there,
but, um, the black bad april iscoming up pretty good with some
good ones, like the amateur.
I'm excited you're going to becoming back on for the sinners.
(02:41):
Um, accountant 2 is going to bea big one.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Let's go.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
Yeah, it's picking up
.
It's picking up, definitely, and I haven't done one of these
in a minute because it's kind ofbeen all over the place with my
episodes.
But Hollywood updates I haven'tdone a whole lot of Hollywood
updates since the Oscarsprobably, but big news literally
just happened within the pasttwo days, like one of the
directors excuse me if I can'tremember his name who won an
(03:06):
oscar for um, I don't even knowwhat he won an oscar for no
other land no other land.
I've never even heard of thatmovie, have you?
Not until the oscars?
Yeah, I, I watched the oscarstoo and I don't remember even
seeing that.
Um, but anyways, like it's abig, I guess it was a
controversy movie, right?
Yeah, yep, and then, um, youknow, after following his
(03:30):
winning, he's gotten some deaththreats and stuff like that, and
he was actually physicallyassaulted and kidnapped yeah, I
mean it was actually crazy.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
He, you know he gave
that speech at the oscars about
unity, about standing together, and then for this to happen like
basically under the cover ofNight not too much coverage
about it until recently was veryjarring and came out of nowhere
I saw.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
Mark Ruffalo tweeted
about it too.
Well, mark's always postingsomething political going on.
He's trying to raise awarenessabout something, but yeah, it
was pretty scary.
It's the first effect.
You see somebody up there whohas a platform to try to say
something positive and give hopea little bit, and I think this
might be the first time weactually seen something happen
(04:13):
to one of those people, like I'msure they might have had in the
past, but it's actually a hugedeal that no one's really
talking about for that, you know, non-scripted documentary, I
think it won like BestDocumentary Feature.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
So for it to be like
an activism situation and then
have it currently, like you said, mark Ruffalo sweetened about
it, so you know it's real, having it, you know so current.
And then for you know thisunfortunate situation to happen
where he it is just a reminderof you know the the joy that
movies give for an escapism, butof course we are.
We always have these real lifethings going on as well yeah,
(04:50):
yeah, pretty, pretty wild stuff.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
That's happening
right now, like you said.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
I think you just said
this morning he was released
yeah, yeah, I think he was uhofficially released and uh
heading back home to the family.
At least, that's what thelatest news report uh came out,
that is that is blowing my mind.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
Still, that's it.
That's insane.
Um, I mean, this has has been alot of like um hollywood
updates going throughout thewhole week, coming throughout
the whole week, I should say, but, um, what the big headlines
are is snow white.
Have you seen that movie yet?
I have not, man what aboutyourself?
Like the one of the 80 peoplethat probably seen Snow.
White.
That movie flopped so hard.
But I'm actually going to bereviewing that with a new guest
(05:28):
next week and I'm super excitedto get into it.
But it flopped and all my newsis right now, because it's a big
controversy movie between theactresses and the actual studio,
what they're doing with it andthe remake.
It's a whole big deal going on.
I want to break down nextweek's episode, but um other
than that, did you notice someshow has been renewed?
Um, you know, what I startedwatching is, uh, invincible.
(05:50):
For the first time ever, forthe first time ever.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
I think we actually
talked about this a few episodes
ago.
Yeah and oh, I'm hooked I amhooked, like I.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
I legit I'm like four
or five episodes deep in the
first season, but all I want todo is come home from work and
just finish watching this wholeshow yeah, man, you gotta lock
in the season.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
Finality was about
almost two weeks ago now, and it
took the internet by storm.
You're missing out on greatcontent, man isn't?
Speaker 1 (06:19):
I mean, isn't that
the last season, if I'm not
mistaken, like the very lastseason, or is there still a lot
more?
Speaker 2 (06:24):
they, uh, they just
announced that it got picked up
for another season, season four, and man.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
Steven Yeun is so
good in it too.
It's always JK.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
Simmons.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
Speaking of Steven
Yeun, I want to hear your take
on this Because, like from myguests who had on for this movie
, just hated this movie.
But Mickey 17, how'd you likeit?
Speaker 2 (06:46):
so you know a lot of
people.
It's always fun like doing thispodcast with you, um, and I
know we don't get to talk toomuch about it, but we obviously
love movies.
You called me right when youfinished I did, I did.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
I forgot about that
because I wanted to talk to
somebody about it.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Yeah hyped me up, man
.
We were texting way late intothe hours of the night.
I enjoyed that movie.
Um, I'm not as big on it aseveryone else.
That being said, I still Ithink I gave it a perfect four
uh, close to a four and a halfin my book.
I I very much enjoyed thatmovie and I'm glad to see that
it's still kicking at the boxoffice as well I loved it.
Speaker 1 (07:20):
My guest, my friend,
who was on for that episode.
He could care less for it likehe's like nothing happened in
that movie.
I was like I guess you'retechnically right, but I mean
it's so much more aboutsymbolism and you know it's a
lot of the story I loved it.
I've been actually, I don't knowif I want to go back to.
I actually would go to thetheaters to see it again, but,
(07:41):
um, I'm definitely gonna bewatching what's the streaming,
um, but this actually episode isall going to be about Jack
Quaid, who is killed in themonth of March.
I would say the other one cameout in February, if I'm not
mistaken.
But anyways, jack Quaid youknow, most famous for playing
Huey on the Boys on Prime TV,started acting in the Hunger
(08:01):
Games in 2012.
He appeared in Scream in 2022.
Started acting in the hungergames in 2012.
He appeared in scream in 2022.
Um voice, clark, kent andsuperman in my adventures with
superman on.
I believe it's max, son ofdennis quaid.
You know jack quaid is.
I heard someone describe him asour generation's tom hanks.
I'm not too quite sure if he'sthere yet he has a potential to
be uh, just because he hasn'tbeen in a whole lot of things
(08:23):
yet, just I mean, he has thecharisma and charm, I think, to
do that.
But, um, he's on his way.
He wants to get like a littleon his butt.
I think he's a very, verytalented actor and he seems like
a cool.
I think he's our age, if I'mnot mistaken.
He's, he's cool, yeah he is a?
Speaker 2 (08:38):
uh, one of the very
few nepo babies that I am
absolutely okay with because hehandles it well.
Like you said, dennis quaid andmeg ryan uh produced this gem
of a man.
You know he he plays it so welluh, especially huey from the
boys.
It's one of my top five tvshows right now.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
So seeing him break
out into more roles, like you
know, in the in the starterposition, I'm a big fan well,
one of the hardest things I Ihave in my description is like
it's almost hard not to see himas huey and anything, just
because, like he's, he playsthat character so very well and
he's beloved with it.
Same thing about one of theother characters we're going to
talk about in this movie.
(09:14):
He's mostly famous for adifferent thing.
That that's all I pictured himand.
But huey, I mean not huey.
See, I'm doing it already.
Jack quaid is a very talentedactor and we're going to explore
more like a different side ofhim once we get to the companion
review in the second half ofthis episode.
But he has range and I thinkhe's like this one's, a little
bit more pg.
Well, I was gonna say it's notpg as in like action, but like
(09:40):
his mannerisms and the way hespeaks is more PG than himself
in the Boys.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
There's a lot of in
this movie.
You can see the directorwatched the Boys and was like
that's what I want.
I want that performance.
Just put it in a copy of myhomework, but change a few of
the answers.
Speaker 1 (09:59):
I did read an
interview.
The Boys is definitely the bigpart of why he got this role.
He plays it incredibly well.
Interview like the boys isdefinitely the big part of why
he got this role.
He plays incredibly way.
Before we get into more further, like talking about this movie,
um, this movie nova came forthose you don't know.
It's about when the girl of hisdreams is kidnapped.
A man incapable of feelingphysical pain turns into a rare
condition, turns his rarecondition into unexpected
advantage in the fight to rescueher.
(10:21):
This movie was written by larsjacobson and directed by dan
burke and robert olsen.
I try to look up there some oftheir work.
I didn't really recognize Imean the robert, not sorry, dan
burke is mostly in like core, smaller horror movies and I
couldn't.
So I mean these directors arekind of unknown to me a little
bit and I like that not knowingwhat to expect to going in there
, because there's something likethe rooster brothers.
(10:42):
I already didn't know what I'mgonna kind of expect to see.
Yeah, I, this movie was a tonof fun.
I don't know what I wasexpecting walking in there.
I was expecting gruesome,because that's a lot of the
trailer showed and yes, it wasgruesome, but I think the
trailer did a good job aboutshowing most of that stuff, so I
wasn't like turning in my seattoo much throughout the whole
movie.
Um, but what they did undersellwas how funny this movie was.
(11:05):
I was chuckling throughout thewhole movie.
Um, did, am I mistaken?
Did you see this movie?
Speaker 2 (11:10):
twice.
Uh, no, no, I only saw it onceI saw you watch it last night.
Speaker 1 (11:16):
You posted about your
story and I thought that was
maybe your second time watchingit um I've seen this opening
night.
If I I'm not mistaken, I thinkI was the only one in the
theater.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
Yeah, I went to go
see it yesterday.
Funny enough there was like alot of couples in my theater.
You know it's a Monday night,so nothing too crazy, but it's
getting some word of mouth.
So I'm glad people are stilltrying to check it out during
the week as well.
Speaker 1 (11:42):
Well, this had the
worst opening of the year, this
movie.
It had a budget of 18 millionopening weekend.
It only made back 8.7 millionthe lowest move, the lowest for
a movie to leave the charts thisyear.
Don't know how, and I I Ididn't think the marketing was
bad for this movie, like it wasall over, like the trailers and
(12:02):
stuff like that.
It caught my attention right upin trailer.
The trailer looked awesome.
I think they relied too heavilyon social media ads like TikToks
and stuff like that, versusactual physical.
And it's hard for Jack Quaid todo this too, because he's just
finishing up marketing forCompanion too, so he's going to
go right back in it less than amonth later.
So his time is spread out andI'm sure he's gonna go right
(12:24):
back in it less than a monthlater.
Um, so I'm not, his time isspread out and I'm sure he's
still acting too.
And like when I tell it'smostly based off of social media
marketing, like I've seen a lotof tiktok ads, a lot of
instagram ads, but nothing otherthan that.
Like I mean because I go, we goto the movies a lot and I see
the trailers every time I gothere.
Other than that I don't thinkI've ever seen like a billboard
or or any kind of physicalmarketing for this movie, and I
(12:47):
think that's where kind of theydropped the ball a little bit
and 18 million isn't a huge.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
I think you muted
yourself um, which is crazy,
because they actually have afantastic poster, uh, like the
one where it looks like he'slike running with all the
different things and I'm likeoperation, man, operation, yeah,
that.
Uh, I love that poster, like Icould absolutely see that
hanging in my in my crib for alittle bit.
(13:11):
So they, they have a lot ofthings that work going into this
.
They just can't, like you said, rely only on the power of
social media.
Speaker 1 (13:19):
I mean it was a great
cast too, Like it had all the
marks.
Speaker 2 (13:28):
Do you think this
movie would have done better if
it was, like it's really, say,in may?
I don't know, because that'sthe thing I was thinking it
obviously march.
We had this weird release where, you know, snow white's here,
black bag is here, um, I thinkthere was a magazine dreams just
dropped and like this.
So it's in like a good if.
If you want to go to the movies, this is a great first option,
um, but it may have benefited, you know, I hate to say it
around a superhero releasedwhere maybe somebody didn't want
(13:50):
to.
You know, maybe that one's fullit's also around and it, you
know, gets a little bit ofleverage from there.
But I think a march release iskind of what this needed.
It just didn't execute I 100%agree.
Speaker 1 (14:01):
I mean, I watched the
premiere too.
The premiere seemed a littlebit small.
One of the things I liked aboutthe premieres they had a, a
punching bag where Quaid's headall bruised up and everything
like that.
That was pretty funny andinteresting, see, and also one
thing I did forget to mentionabout the marketing, the only
thing I've seen them do publiclythe studio must have gotten
tickets to courtside seats on aMarch Madness game and he shows.
(14:23):
They're all beat up with an armand a sling and, like you know,
I'll cut just to promote themovie a little bit and he, like
he, shot up basketball inhalftime or something like that.
That was pretty cool, but Ithink they expected that to blow
up bigger than what it did, because I had to go digging for
something like that, you knowyeah, yeah, especially, you know
it's again.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
It kind of feels like
they're hunting for that viral
moment, right, but you stillgotta market it for people to
have that love for it.
Uh, and they, you know, likeyou said, the trailers.
I I do my best to stay awayfrom trailers now, but of course
I'm in the theater and Iremember, like covering my eyes
at parts of the trailer, so itdefinitely has a good hook.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
If you, uh, if you're
interested definitely, um I the
first thing I thought when Isaw this trailer it was like
this movie looks original.
I like it just for that factalone.
I did my research to see if itwas based on like a remake or or
like a spinoff or like a basedon a comic book even.
But no, it's fully original and, as far as the directors go,
(15:22):
like they wanted to make this asreal as possible, like they did
the research about the actualum, I forget what it's called
the medical problem this guy has, like yeah, you can't feel paid
.
Um, they did the research likewhat they really know really
entails it, because they didn'twant this to be marketed or seem
like a superhero movie.
They just wanted the show likethey did, did research on how
(15:44):
far the human body can pushitself to go, and I think he did
a good job.
Not once did I think this was asuperhero movie.
Yeah, this guy's taking blowsleft and right, but you can see
it's still affecting his body.
Speaker 2 (15:57):
A hundred and you
know what they actually went
about.
A lot of it smart.
Don't get me wrong.
This is a movie that's fun andgoofy.
There are definitely momentswhere you just got to suspend it
, but it's all rooted and I Ididn't actually know that they
did that much research.
So even hearing you say that, that checks the box for me on,
well, that makes sense, becausea lot of the times even, you
(16:17):
know, with the adrenaline, I'lljust leave it there, like it
makes sense to drive the storyforward of like that's how that
would handle, uh, or be handled.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
so I absolutely love
that yeah, yeah, I'm excited to
get into it too.
Um, I mean the pacing of thismovie we just talked a little
bit before because I have mynotes.
I have deep notes on almost allthe characters in this movie.
The pacing in this movie wasphenomenal.
At no one point I don't think Ilooked at my phone the entire
time.
It's a shorter movie, I thinklike an hour 40 minutes,
(16:47):
something like that.
Uh, actually an hour 50 minutes, but I didn't look at my phone.
Once you know, I wasentertained throughout the whole
time.
I was constantly guessing.
Some of the stuff is a littlebit cheesy.
Some of the dialogue like afterI kill they get like a cheesy
one-liner um.
Other than that, I didn't havea problem with most of the stuff
like that.
I think this is filmed in capetown and south africa, if I'm
not mistaken.
(17:07):
I was surprised by that.
I was like it totally lookslike I think they were based in
new jersey or something likethat.
I don't know actually wherethey were based at, but it it
totally fooled me.
I thought they were in americaand um, but a lot of their sets
were minimal and enclosed area,so most of it was probably done
on the studio set, like hisapartment and the club and stuff
like that.
Um, and funny, like I said, there's great chemistry between
(17:31):
some of the characters.
Not so great chemistry in mypersonal opinion, uh with a few
of them but other than that Ihad a great time watching this.
It was funny as hell and I justcan't wait to get to talk about
some of these characters.
Obviously, we got to start withJack Wade, who plays the main
character, nate.
He has this condition.
I wrote it down here but I'mnot going to be able to
pronounce it Congenitalinsensitivity to pain, with
(17:57):
anhydrosis Basically means youcan't feel physical pain or hot
or cold, and they do a good jobabout explaining that in the
movie.
I like how they waited toexplain that before we knew that
because, like the first time Ithink we see it, he burns his
hand on the hot ass coffee andthe thing that makes this movie
so cool and unique and likesmart we see someone getting hot
(18:19):
coffee poured on their hand.
Our instinct is like oh, that'sgotta hurt.
He doesn't show any reaction, which I'm sure as an actor was
kind of confusing on set alittle bit at least it wasn't me
and he gets blows to thestomach and you know he's not
even flinching.
This guy, legit, can't feel pain.
The one thing I was worriedabout when I seen this trailer
this is a legit disease not Idon't want to call it disease
(18:40):
like medical thing.
Yeah, and I I remember hearingabout this when I was maybe like
a little after high school.
Maybe it is, and they do a goodjob about emphasizing this in
the movie.
It is very, very dangerous tohave it.
Yeah, you cannot feel pain.
Yeah, seems like a good thing, but no, like you could
definitely hurt yourself and noteven realize it.
(19:00):
A point of case in the movie hesaid one time when he was a kid
he stepped on the nail, didn'trealize until his shoe was full
of blood and you know theydropped the fact that you can't.
The life expectancy expectancyis, um, is very low chances to
live past 25, which is why I hadlooked that up and it is true
(19:21):
like not that many people liveat 25, because not only like
you're, you can step on a nailor something like that, like
they point out in the movies, like you gotta set a timer to
even use the bathroom.
Speaker 2 (19:30):
Oh dude, that was so
gnarly.
Speaker 1 (19:32):
Yeah, you don't even
feel that your bladder is being
full and you have to use therestroom.
Like how wild is that?
Like I can't imagine how thatwould be like living and they do
such a good job of showing himto being like a protective,
cautious kind of man, like hehas like fricking little wax
balls on top of his pencils incase, like he hurts himself on
it.
You know, he has protectivethings in the corners.
Like he, he never eats anythingsolid food.
(19:54):
Like he drinks everything justbecause he's afraid of
swallowing bite off his owntongue.
And I think they did such agreat job in the movie.
And especially like him drivingI'm sure that's a wreck for him
when he first started drivingbecause he's like three cars
behind the person in front ofhim.
He does not give a fuck.
His character development inthis movie was phenomenal.
I thought From the beginning ofthis movie to the end of this
(20:16):
movie it's almost night and daykind of people and it was
gradually getting up there andthe whole message of this movie
I like it was like do not livein fear.
Speaker 2 (20:31):
You know, go out
there and live your life like we
all are experiencing the samethings and you're just gonna
waste your life if you'resitting inside doing nothing,
100, and I think you nailed itright that that feeling that
when we first hear about his uhdisorder, um, or you know, his
situation was like, oh that's,that's got to be sick, right,
that's going to be so cool.
And they start up front.
Being like this is problematicand the life that you can live
(20:53):
is so stressful and that's whyhe's such a reserved
self-introverted.
You know, likes his alone time, but you know, has to, has to
grow yeah, and he doesn't have awhole lot of friends.
Speaker 1 (21:05):
He has a lot of
online friends because he's so
afraid to go out into the bar, like at the work hours, that he
doesn't like to mingle withanybody.
I mean, to the outside personhe's just a huge introvert who
doesn't like doing anything, butthen realize he he's just being
precautious.
You know he doesn't.
He's afraid to die, which youknow.
I'm not blaming him.
Um, I don't think about it allthe time.
(21:25):
Like you know what thathappened with david, with not
david schumer, um, danny fromfull house, what's his name?
uh, danny tanner, um, not dannytanner, yeah him bob saget, bob
saget, yeah, he hit his head onthe toilet in the bathroom and
he didn't think anything of it.
He got up and went on thrillsthe whole day and turns out it
did some real, pretty bad damageand he died from that.
(21:47):
You know, that's like a milliontimes worse for this guy.
You know, like one paper cutcould turn into an infected guy.
But because of that hischaracter became so smart,
because he read nothing aboutmedical books, because he's
always getting in accidents andhe's very smart.
He could have probably been adoctor if he wanted to.
Um about taking care of injuries.
You know what to be looking outfor versus symptoms like my
(22:07):
biggest thing, like if I getsick, like just from the common
flu.
You know how can I reallyprevent this from getting any
worse than what it is?
It's not like he has a weakimmune system, it's just he just
can't feel it, and he can'tfeel hot or cold either.
I mean, which is crazy.
Yeah, this guy's doing a polarplunge every year, probably cold
showers, his heating bill mustbe fantastic.
(22:29):
Yeah, yeah, I'm sure he has upsand downs.
Um, this guy would have been ahell of a football player,
honestly yeah, like an endurancetrainer, like those marathon
runners he would be.
Uh, he'd make a name for himselfoh, yeah, yeah, probably would
have lived till 23.
But yeah, uh, we'll gothroughout the plot a little bit
as we go along.
But amber mid thunder playssherry very pretty in the movie
(22:53):
but I felt like she did not doanything extra to the movie.
She didn't bring anything extrato the table.
Um, she had good chemistry withjack but not, but I never
really fully bought theirrelationship, which I guess you
know to the plot was kind of thepoint.
But no, I'm with you I'm withyou.
Speaker 2 (23:11):
I think that they 100
could have done a better job
than similar to you.
I was like she's fine, you know, and I I like the one scene
that they had.
But yeah, I was like, if he'sdoing all this for her, I think
I need a little bit more yeah,I'm looking up her imbd right
now.
Speaker 1 (23:26):
She was in the movie
prey in 2022.
Avatar, the last bent airbenderthat just came out last year.
Uh, she was in the show legion.
Other than that, I'm not reallyrecognizing too much of her
work.
She was an opus that just cameout this year as well.
Have you seen that yet?
I have not.
I.
Is that gonna be on your list?
That's kind of on my list too, like a soft on my list.
If I have time, I'll go see it,but uh, but other than that, I
(23:47):
mean she's a she's a goodactress.
I think they could have done alittle bit better, but, like I
said, the budget was only 18million.
I'm sure jack's is.
I think it's probably two orsomething like that.
I don't know how much isgetting paid now.
She was good.
I mean, she was good aboutshowing emotion, I feel like on
screen, because like when thewhole thing, like when she takes
(24:08):
him, when he takes her back toher apartment, yeah, she was
generously genuine, likegenuinely curious about his
tattoos, which we'll talk aboutthat in a second his tattoos,
like her scar, and she has alittle bit mysterious herself.
Um, that part of her characterI thought was very good you like
that a lot yeah, but once itcomes to like oh, oh, I actually
(24:30):
do care for him.
I didn't buy that at all.
Speaker 2 (24:34):
She did a good job of
, like you said, displaying
curiosity.
I totally bought that.
She was fascinated by him andthere was that scene in the
apartment where I was like youcan tell she wanted a connection
.
It felt like something washolding her back, which we know
why.
But her having fun with them, she, she gave crazy from the
(24:56):
start.
I don't know if you got that, but like as soon as he walked
out I was like this girl's crazybecause of the cherry pie scene
, like in the diner, and thenthe bar scene, Like a good segue
of you're a great actor.
But I was like this she up tosomething.
Speaker 1 (25:11):
So for here, for, uh,
what's his name?
Uh, nate's character as anintrovert, this girl is every
introvert's dream.
She comes up to him, she askedhim out, she does all this great
stuff.
Like, like, all this stuffintroverts want you to ask them,
she does.
You know, I can see theattraction right then.
(25:31):
And there, of course, she fallsin love instantly.
He had a great night with her.
I mean, she, like you said, like um, she invites him out to
lunch.
He has, she helps himexperience apple pie, like
cherry pie, whatever it was, andhe's like orgasm right there in
the diner.
From that he uh, so heinstantly feels attracted for it
.
He invites, she invites him tohis art show and grab a drink
(25:53):
afterwards.
Her art was pretty crazy.
Like that was a weirdcharacteristic for the character
because they never went back tothat side of her at all who
just wrote like nudity paint too, like it was.
It was odd choice, like why notjust regular paint, if you're
not gonna come back to this, ifit's not gonna be a big plot
point in the whole movie?
So they go back to the bar andhave like a drink and then you
really, you see, he runs intosome bullies that, um, you know,
(26:17):
once you, I, I could totallysee this happening too.
Like you know, if once the kidsfind out that you're you can't
feel pain, of course they'regonna test that, especially in
middle school you know.
So he runs into one of his oldbullies there and she kind of
gets him back from in a verycool way.
So not only is she inviting himout, she's standing up for him
too.
Um, knowing he can't taste.
So he's like guys, I got ashots and it's like extreme hot
(26:39):
sauce or something like that.
He can't even taste it so itfeels pretty cool, like, and
then um, he's like oh my god,can you believe he, what he
thinks?
like if I'm going to take youback to my place and she goes,
you are taking me back.
Speaker 2 (26:51):
That was a bar.
That was a bar.
I love that.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
Like I said, a huge
introvert's dream come true.
It's almost too easy andbecause of this he has all this
time like as an introvert.
He's learning new hobbies andone of the things he can draw
and he can tattoo, he practiceshimself.
He has his wicked, wicked fullbody tattoo on his body.
(27:17):
I thought that was insanecharacter choice like.
He doesn't seem like the typethat would do that.
Not only did they show it, Ithought it could have looked
better.
I mean, it just looked likesketches scribbles.
Speaker 2 (27:30):
Yeah, I, I thought
that as well, especially because
, um the comment of like, well,if he's had so much time to do
so, you know, you think thatthere'd be a dramatic increase
in skill set, especially if he'sfor him to like knowingly leave
that giant space in the middleof his chest too.
I thought that was kind of weirdtoo, like yeah, there's no way
he would really do that no andlike, especially with an
(27:52):
imagination like his, like I.
I could have bought it if itwas like a normal person,
because, oh, he's moving fromthe pain, but like he's just
drawing.
Speaker 1 (27:59):
So come on it can
absolutely be better, yeah um, I
do want to talk about raynicholson, who plays simon, the
main villain of this whole movie.
I mean, there are a couple ofvillains in this movie, but he's
the main honcho on everything.
His character is a very basicvillain.
He didn't have much to mentionto other than greed and wanting
to be rich and be a dick, basically Willing to kill his
(28:22):
own sister.
He reminded me a lot of ConorMcGregor in Roadhouse actually.
Speaker 2 (28:27):
Okay, hell yeah, I
mean just there remind he
reminded me a lot of conormcgregor and roadhouse.
Actually, okay, hell yeah, Imean just that crazy like run
through a wall, like, uh, energy, exactly, I mean like it I.
Speaker 1 (28:37):
We find out a little
bit about his family history
just a little bit.
But other than that, like I, Idon't know this guy was an
asshole, like he is supposed tobe an asshole in the movie.
But like I don't know, I wantedto expect more from him in this
movie.
But I don't know I wanted toexpect more from him in this
movie.
Not that he didn't do a greatjob playing this guy, he did a
phenomenal job playing him.
Even Jack Quaid commented on it, saying he's such a nice guy in
(28:58):
real life and to see him flip aswitch and turn into the
psychopath is incredible.
Speaker 2 (29:01):
And this also guy is
like the freaking Terminator, or
Michael Myers terminator or ormichael myers like this guy gets
stabbed and punched and allkinds of he gets right back up
like his classic tough guy youknow, yeah, that was like one of
the only parts where I wasgetting not frustrated, but I
was like it's not, like he hassuperpowers, what are we doing?
Speaker 1 (29:18):
he got shot and he
was able to like drive an
ambulance like across town andshit like that take blows to the
head.
I was like ain't no way, guy, ain't no way.
Um, probably one of my favoritepart about this movie is jacob
badalon, who plays roscoe.
You know, the kid fromspider-man.
This actor shined.
(29:38):
He was the highlight of thewhole movie for me, even though
he has very minimal screen time.
But every time I'm watchingthis guy, anything, not just
this, I think the same thing in,um, uh, what's those uh taron
call tar movie Terran and he wasin like the vampire movie or
something like that.
You can't help but think of himas Ned from Spider-Man and he's
playing Ned.
Speaker 2 (29:58):
He is a version of
Ned in this movie, exactly.
Speaker 1 (30:00):
Just like a little
bit more rated R version of it,
like with his humor and stufflike that.
Yeah, but he was hilarious inthis movie um first, like even
he wasn't on screen like for thefirst half of the movie.
You don't even.
You don't from the trailers.
We know what's him but like youdon't know, it's him and he's.
He's funny through the headsetbecause they're playing through
online video games.
(30:20):
You know calling him a pussyfor not going out and stuff like
that.
It was hilarious.
Uh, one of the random I meanhe's very genuine with with
anyone he has screen time withbut one character, but I wish I
was seeing them together.
More was him and Matt Walsh'scharacter who plays Coltrane the
cop.
He got annoyed with him becausehe kept talking so much.
Speaker 2 (30:39):
Oh, my God, I wish I
would have seen a little bit
more.
There's definitely some deletedfootage that they can release,
because I like that banter.
Have you seen?
Speaker 1 (30:50):
that meme going
around, everyone's calling the
CEO of sex CEO of sex.
Yeah, he's kind of like PedroPascal, he's kind of embracing
it a little bit.
People call.
Pedro daddy.
Yeah, I'm daddy.
Speaker 2 (31:04):
He was like yeah, my
fiancee, my wife was like what
is this?
It?
Speaker 1 (31:10):
started out of
nowhere too.
I don't know, but we're justrolling with it.
It's hilarious he did.
He did recently get engaged too, so that's pretty exciting for
him.
Um I don't know if it's beenconfirmed he's coming back for
Spider-Man four.
I know Zendaya has, yeah, um,but I'd like to see him.
There's also rumors that harryosborn's probably gonna get
(31:30):
introduced in the spider-man 4,so I mean there's a lot of
things going on, uh, with thatstuff, but anyways, he was a
funny part of the movie.
Like him making references him,it's like jack, not jack.
Nate goes like this is thefirst time meeting him, rescuing
him and said you look differentthan you described yourself.
He's like you said, do you?
You look like jason momoa?
Speaker 2 (31:50):
no, I said I kind of
look like jason, I feel like
that's a very specific archetype, yeah, and then he wore a
leather jacket and helmet.
Speaker 1 (31:59):
It's like, oh my, my
motive, my harley's outside,
it's like a little mope gotcatfished in real life yeah,
yeah, yeah, um, those are allthe characters.
I mean there's a couple cops,it's like they were pretty funny
and important to the story too.
But overall, like the plot wasgreat, it was very original.
I mean a little bit cheesysometimes, but I had a great
(32:21):
time watching this movie.
We need to talk about the plota little bit more.
Like you know, he, this guy, plays a huge introvert.
Uh, this girl, sherry, inviteshim out.
You know, have a great time.
They end up sleeping together.
Uh, the next day, like you cantotally tell night and day, like
he's like you know what, maybelife is worth living a little
bit.
So he tries taking a little bitmore risk.
He's happy.
You know he's dancing, he'smaking breakfast, he's eating
(32:41):
stuff, actually eating stuff andthen, um, he almost gets into a
car accident because he'ssinging and dancing so much in
his car.
You know he's having a greatday at work.
You know everything's goingvery well for him.
So he's going to go talk to thegirl Like, hey, like I had a
great time.
You know, like I don't want toseem too forward, but you know
I'd like to see you again Askher out on the second day.
Basically, well, shit goesnowhere.
(33:09):
Yeah, they get robbed by threesanta clauses and, um, they
actually end up killing, uh, thebank manager, which is like, oh
shit, like that made it realfor me yep, you know right away
um they're gonna kill themanager.
So nate is the assistant managerwho knows the codes, it's like
that.
So they take him.
He, this is like where you like, you really start to like his
(33:30):
acting, like you're not feelingpain because they beat the shit
out of him and he doesn't flinchat all, he's too busy looking
at the girl.
They just slapped the shit outof his girl, um, so they get the
money and they end up takingthe girl as a hostage and
there's like three or four copsoutside already like, but they
get shot at.
Nate goes up to one of themtrying to like who has all this
medical training or self-trainedstuff, helps him out as much as
(33:52):
he can and he realizes, oh shit, backup isn't coming for a
while.
They're gonna get away.
So he steals a cop car and hegoes after them.
They separate because there'stwo different cars.
He ends up going for the wrongcar and it's the one without the
girl, sherry.
And what an epic bat.
Like fight in this movie, thekitchen scene.
I mean like he drops the gun inthe air.
Fight, he picks it up with hishand.
(34:12):
I mean like it's, it's geniuslike for like the audience, like
the directors, to do that.
Like because, like I'mflinching the entire time you
put my hand in there, just assomeone who works in the kitchen
for a little bit, like you knowhow hot that is end up shooting
him in the head and I was like, hey, man, are you okay?
You know, just because he neverkilled anybody, he throws some,
he throws up from it everyone'sreaction, I think.
So he ends up going on themission to find I'm not gonna
(34:35):
spoil too too much in this movie, but he ends up going on the
mission to find these people, like he goes out there, like I
need to know where they're from, who are they working with, so I
can try to get any clues and alot of clever ways too
yeah, there's a whole scene inum, a tattoo parlor, you know,
with this guy, huge, fuckinghumongous guy.
He ends up getting an epicbattle with like that.
(34:56):
That was pretty gruesome too.
Uh, long story short, he findsthem spoiler and he finds out a
big twist with the girl he likesI'm not gonna spoil that at all
, because I think everyoneshould go see this movie and the
end is a big battle scene.
Like he does like end upbreaking a lot of his bones,
like there's no way in real lifethis guy would be walking
around.
But I think a lot of that ispsychological too, like oh shit,
(35:18):
I see my thumb is fucked up,like yep, I can't move anymore.
You know, versus like if youdon't feel it, you don't, if you
like, if you don't mind, youdon't know.
Speaker 2 (35:26):
Yeah, you don't know
you're not going in a shock
there, you're not like, at leastnot mentally yeah, so I mean it
.
Speaker 1 (35:33):
It was incredible,
incredible.
Fight to the like damn nearworld.
Yeah, fight to the death.
Towards the end of the movie Ilaughed throughout the whole way
.
You know, I did feel sympathyfor the character.
I didn't care for how it ended, like him still wanting to be
involved with her.
And the ending it bothered meso much Because, like he you
(35:54):
know the big thing about thismovie he didn't want to eat
cherry pie because he's tooafraid to bite his tongue off.
The camera shows him this ishow the movie ends.
The camera shows him taking abite of the cherry pie and just
smiling and eating it for alittle bit too long, for like a
good 45 seconds.
And the whole time I'm thinkinglike is he gonna bite his
tongue off right now?
Like is that how they're gonnaend the movie?
And no, like he didn't, it'sjust him smiling in pie.
(36:16):
I was like why did I sitthrough like a full minute
watching this, like if nothing'sgonna happen.
Speaker 2 (36:21):
I fully thought that,
like they were gonna, because
it's cherry pie, so I thoughtthey were gonna at least have
him like smile and like histeeth be red.
Like you know, did he do it, orlike I thought there was like a
good trick that they were goingto that would have been
incredible.
Speaker 1 (36:33):
I didn't even think
about that.
That would have been amazing.
Speaker 2 (36:36):
But no, they didn't,
they didn't touch it at all
actually.
Yeah, I mean I also hate it.
Not hate it.
I was frustrated by the end ofit because it was so good.
Leading up to it, again, a lotof my frustration came, for it
just went a little too long.
Not the movie itself, but justthe final scenes was like okay,
(36:58):
all right, at one point, likesomebody's got to go down.
A lot of people are survivingthings that they shouldn't,
right.
Speaker 1 (37:04):
Even Nate himself,
like there's no reason he
shouldn't be scarred for life.
Like even his hands, like theywere literally burnt.
I was like, and he's walkingout without a scratch this whole
movie it's like you takingblows to the head.
Yeah, it's a full like.
Well, like eight months later, something like that they said at
the end you you would still beon crutches or something you
know, you would be an arm cast.
Like there ain't no way likeyou can be fully functional
(37:25):
normal again I talk about likehow do you even have your job
still you?
Speaker 2 (37:28):
know like no, no, and
that's the thing they did, the
thing where they made the jokelike oh, you had a lot of legal
troubles.
But you know, xyz, and I'm likeI don't know if that's how that
would go, that for either ofthem that almost like turns it
into a superhero movie.
Speaker 1 (37:44):
Almost you know like
unrealistic endings and honestly
I when they were it almostspoiler alert.
It almost looks like he's gonnadie.
I was like, yeah, no waythey're gonna have the balls to
pull that off in this movie, andsure enough they don't.
Speaker 2 (37:58):
Like he wakes up in a
coma later no, that would have
been insane even that lastinjury that he had, uh, with his
arm, was so gruesome that I waslike he's not getting that arm
back, like you gotta amputatethat thing, because there's just
no way.
I think that's what I missed,like I just I wanted a real
consequence you know right, right, um other than that.
Speaker 1 (38:24):
I think that's all I
have for this movie.
Like what would you get thismovie?
Speaker 2 (38:26):
one out of ten yeah,
um, teetering between seven and
eight.
I really, really enjoyed thismovie.
I think I'm gonna stick withthe seven um and kind of let it
float into the sunset, butthat's still a really good score
.
Speaker 1 (38:40):
I thoroughly enjoyed
it I probably gave it a seven as
well.
I 100 agree with that.
Like there's some like cheesylines, I would take out of this
movie some of the endings thatwould change.
But overall it was veryoriginal idea.
Speaker 2 (38:50):
I had a lot of fun,
had a good soundtrack, pretty
decent soundtrack very goodsoundtrack, had a ton of fun,
was out of my seat for at least20.
You know I don't do gore hiding, so I uh, and it was a very
well, well structured, uh, likeyou said, high-paced movie, so
agreed uh, which kind of leadsme to the next movie we're going
to talk about.
Speaker 1 (39:10):
We're going to talk
about jack quaid's other movie
that came out in earlier 2025.
We're going to talk aboutcompanion, and the reason I
bring this up is because, likeyou're not really into horror
movie or kind of gruesome movies, and this is this movie trailer
definitely led you to believethis is going to be scarier than
what it was first of all, andum, but I was interested to see
(39:31):
how you ended up seeing thismovie yeah, uh.
Speaker 2 (39:34):
So I got dragged to
this movie, uh, with my friend
and I genuinely had no idea whatthis movie was.
Uh, it was one of those.
We ended up trying to go to onemovie.
That one didn't work.
So, oh, I think I rememberseeing this one.
It's got jack wade, let's gorock out.
I tell you, my jaw genuinelydropped at the twist, I was on a
(39:57):
roller coaster that this moviehad a very big impact for me oh
yeah, well, and it's on top ofthat, it's a very quick watch.
Speaker 1 (40:05):
It's only an an hour
37 minutes.
Jack Quaid stars in it.
I was very excited when I seenit when because this trailer
came up before Nova came out, obviously because it came out
sooner.
When I seen him on the bigscreen I was like, yes, you know
, I'm finally getting more JackQuaid, because I'm so used to
seeing him on TV.
He's I was.
He deserves it.
I'm excited to see where hiscareer takes off too.
(40:26):
For those who don't know, thiscompanion is about a weekend
getaway with friends in a remotecabin turns into a chaos after
it's revealed that one of theguests is not what they see.
This movie is directed by drewhancock and also written by drew
hancock.
Stars like sophia thatcherplaying iris, who did an amazing
job.
I can't wait to talk about her.
Josh is played by jack quaid.
You know luke, luke gageplaying patch.
(40:48):
It's a small, very, very smallcast.
Um, other than that, I don'tthink I recognize too many other
than maybe matt mccarthy whoplays one of the paramedics, who
plays sid at the end of the bigbig guy.
Redhead got it.
Talk about soundtracks.
Man, this had a phenomenalsoundtrack in this whole movie.
I loved it for that alone.
It almost had like a James Gunnkind of vibe.
Speaker 2 (41:11):
Yeah, catch us when
we do the end of the year wrap.
This will be in my soundtrackhighlight.
Speaker 1 (41:15):
Okay, okay, I'll
probably be on mine too, so all
right.
That description didn't do itjustice to what this movie was
about, and have you gone backand tried re-watching some of
the trailers for this movie?
Speaker 2 (41:27):
I did.
I did because I wanted to seeif I would have still got that
effect, and I wouldn't havebecause the trailer spoils.
Speaker 1 (41:35):
The trailer spoiled
everything in this movie.
And that was one of the biggestthings that everyone was mad
about.
Like I wish we didn't.
Really, I almost wish we didn'tfind out she was a robot, and I
also wish we didn't find outthat she kills him at the end.
You know, like that's how themovie opens too, like two days,
yeah, that would be.
Speaker 2 (41:54):
My biggest critique
was that opening line.
Thankfully I low-key forgotabout that line because I was
watching it like so intensely asyou can imagine, um, but by
that like I mean there's a lotof false flags in here, but I
thought you know it ended.
I was like whoa, so uh, yeah,it went out of its way to spoil
itself.
Speaker 1 (42:14):
I, I cannot for the
life of me fathom and it's
interesting too that they justchose to do like a narration of
the main character in her head, because, like one, we find out
she's not human.
But I guess it does give alittle bit more humanization, if
you want to call it that way.
Um, because we do have thosethoughts in our head, you know.
It's like that was like we'reconstantly thinking out loud to
ourselves sometimes and, um, Ilike I feel like they would put
(42:36):
that detail on someone, becausewho else should be talking to
you know?
So this movie opens up about aloving couple meeting this.
Uh, it's a getaway and I don'tknow if she's I'm assuming this
is the first time meeting theirfriends, or she was a little bit
nervous about this trip.
Yeah, she goes there.
It's a gay couple and a femalewho's dating the guy who owns
(42:59):
that house, if I'm not mistakenyep.
I think that's all of it is.
It's a very, very small castvery small.
Um, you know a little bit.
You don't find out right awaythat she's a robot I don't think
so at least, and, like I said,I like that they hinted at it
like little subtle details, likethere's one moment where
they're having like weird sexand then she's trying to talk to
(43:24):
him.
She was irish go to sleep, shejust turns off.
Basically I was like what thefuck?
And then like how they go backand explain her history and
stuff like that yeah but anywaysshe goes.
We're just going through thewhole movie, I guess, like jack.
Well, first I want to talkabout jack wait, a little bit
too, because he's a totallydifferent character in this
movie.
Like uh, he's very innocentsweet man in the movie.
(43:45):
He's a very big dick in thismovie.
Speaker 2 (43:48):
He's an asshole.
He starts off like a normal guy.
Speaker 1 (43:51):
You know like come on
girl, like you know we're going
to have fun, you know it'sgoing to be a good weekend,
stuff like that.
And then once shit starts goingdown, like he almost has like
zero emotions and he's heartlessand he's ruthless and he wants
it's.
It's a different, darker sideof him that, like I said, gives
(44:11):
him range for me in this movie.
Speaker 2 (44:12):
I, I think he's a
fantastic actor, um, anyway, and
they do that, uh, to that point, from him going like it, it
really just shows like thattrojan horse, like I.
Obviously this movie has a lotof themes in it, but one of that
is that like master manipulator, like the guy who's like, oh,
that can't be me, I'm one of thegood ones, I'm like one of the
nice guys.
So when you see like a jackquaid, you, you, you get that
(44:34):
feeling inherently.
Speaker 1 (44:36):
But unfortunately,
this is some layers to it
underneath that are justterrible which I'm sure that's
what appealed them to this kindof movie too, which I don't know
.
I think it was a smart choicefor this movie.
Um, let's talk about sophiethatcher, who plays the main
character man does she do agreat job acting like not only
should he play like just agirlfriend and stuff like that,
(44:57):
she plays someone who has tooutsmart somebody else.
Uh, she's very witty, she likethere's times where she plays
like has, like her voice changestoo.
So they I don't know if theydid that afterwards, or she
voiced mouth or words orsomething like that for someone
who has that camera, but she didphenomenal, she did great in
this whole movie.
She shows her strengths, herweaknesses and her real improv.
(45:21):
I don't know if she improvisedtoo much in this movie, but
physically she did a lot of coolstuff in this movie, absolutely
, anyway.
So they go to this cabin andthey're like I guess everyone
does know that she's a sex robot, but that's how normal it is in
this future and it'sindistinguishable, like where?
(45:42):
Like even the robots themselvesdo not know the robots.
Speaker 2 (45:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (45:45):
She finds out she's a
robot.
It's the same time we'refinding out she's a robot too,
which is awesome.
Speaker 2 (45:50):
Especially me, cannot
stress that enough.
I was stressed man and, likeyou said, said just to hop back
onto it real quick the littlethings that they did with him,
being like iris what's theweather?
And she does, like the littleannouncer voice and you think
it's a cute little quirk.
Nah, man, that thing they are.
(46:10):
So they went about it so well.
Speaker 1 (46:13):
I was, uh, yeah,
finding out I was the ideal
audience there and I didn't likehow they did that with the
whole weather thing too, becauseit makes it seem like you're
talking to an Alexa, like you'renot alive, you know well, I
didn't you know.
Speaker 2 (46:25):
Going back, I'm like
so I didn't even realize.
You know, her name is like a,uh, it's Siri in reverse, and I
was like oh, I never, I neverthought about that either, like
stuff, like that dude I, I wascracking up that is.
Speaker 1 (46:40):
That is very clever
of them.
Is it clever or is it kind oflazy, honestly?
Speaker 2 (46:46):
little column, a
little column b um.
Speaker 1 (46:51):
So, going back to it,
she like one of the guys like
who owns the house.
He's kind of like a pretty bigdick too.
He's he of a pretty big dicktoo.
He's a weird guy.
He kind of reminds me of.
He's seen Friends in itMonica's boyfriend, the older
guy, the older guy.
Speaker 2 (47:11):
He's a famous actor.
Speaker 1 (47:12):
He was in.
Speaker 2 (47:13):
Not Dennis Hart.
He reminds me of Burt Reynolds.
Speaker 1 (47:18):
He finds out he's a
sex robot and he's like all
right, let me get a pass at that.
She doesn't know that's whatshe's meant for.
Basically she has no idea thatand technically I'll give him
this like technically she's notmeant just for sex, you know,
she's meant to be a companion, but everyone knows what that
means, you know.
So then, um, she's like nah,I'm only his, I'm only um,
(47:42):
what's his name?
Josh's?
So he ends up killing him outof self-defense.
Now, these robots do have rulesprogrammed in them.
It's like they can't kill, theycan't, you know, disobey
certain rules and stuff likethat.
They have to do what they'retold.
Well, josh mess we find outlater this is a spoiler, but
this movie's been out for aminute josh tampers with her
settings a little bit and shelike allows her to kill.
(48:04):
So she kills him out ofself-defense.
And then the you find out laterwas I'm sure this was a big
shock to you, because it kind ofshocked me too a little bit.
The reason they killed this guyis because he was supposedly a
dick and he, he ruined manyfamilies.
You know, he's a big drugdealer, he's just an evil guy
and they're gonna rob his ass.
Now that he's dead, everythinggoes well until iris starts she
(48:29):
escapes from them.
Like when she finds out, um,about she's being a robot and
stuff like that, she kind offreaks out because the cops are
never gonna believe them.
She's not gonna be there now,and then from there, I like how
they did what they like theywent back in time to show her
origin story, how she gotdelivered in a box and how their
program was the me and stufflike that.
This was a complete shocker tome.
I my jaw almost dropped when Ifound this out that one of the
(48:52):
gay boyfriends one of theboyfriends was also a robot too
I wish I had a camera on mebecause I thought this.
Speaker 2 (49:02):
I was already
crescendoed with the alert.
I was like what is happening?
Speaker 1 (49:09):
and then they had
like these fake store memories
in their head too, like thescenarios of how they met.
They have fake memoriesimplanted in them and some of
them are ridiculous, like joshand iris's was like they met at
a grocery store.
But these other two guys let melook up their names because
they were awesome um, what's hisname in the movie?
Patrick and, uh, eli.
(49:31):
Patrick and eli.
They met at a costume party.
He was just up as a dinosaurand then later in the movie we
find out like the same memory, but with josh instead, and it's
exactly the same.
It was incredible to see howthese robots operate stuff like
that and towards the end, especially him in the costume.
Did you not get the feelingyou're watching terminator a
little bit?
Speaker 2 (49:49):
a hundred percent and
I think that they, you know,
were being very intentional withthe framing of that.
Speaker 1 (49:55):
But yeah, that dude
was a mess and he was very like
a ken kind of bot, like a person, like he he symbolizes like a,
like a perfect body, like he didlook like a chiseled robot.
You know, I'll give them thatsame thing with iris.
She looked very robotic eventhough she he did her best look
human.
It was incredible.
So now, like they're fightingwith iris to try to capture her,
(50:17):
some people get murdered byaccident, some people get
murdered intentionally.
I don't want to spoil too muchin this movie, but how it is.
This movie was gruesome butagain, I think they spoiled a
lot of the gruesomeness in themovie.
I mean the trailers, because Iwas not surprised at all about
anything that was happening, like any kill or anything like
that.
You knew how it ended from thevery beginning.
(50:39):
You knew how it ended brandon.
I was so upset that they didthis like everyone was very
upset about.
That was the biggest complaintabout this movie.
I had a fun time watching it.
Like I said, the soundtrack wasamazing.
It made it more fun andrelatable and you find out the
big twist ending like theykilled kind of an innocent man,
like he was a dick but he wasn'tevil like they thought he was
(51:00):
just a rando.
Speaker 2 (51:01):
That didn't change
their motives at all.
Speaker 1 (51:03):
So, other than that,
I had a great time watching this
movie.
Speaker 2 (51:07):
Let me, let me ask
you this let me ask you this
because I have a sex robotprobably no joke, just joking
I'm joking.
No comment yo.
If um did you?
Did you empathize with iris atall?
Oh yeah, 100.
Speaker 1 (51:26):
You know like I'm
finding, that's like right now.
If I found out I was a robot,my whole life will be
radicalized dude.
Speaker 2 (51:33):
I'll tell you this,
and here's my controversial take
I did throughout the entiremovie.
I was excited for her gettingaway.
I realized at the end, when shelike kills him, I was like dang
, that's crazy.
Like imagine your toasterkilling you.
I was so mad, I was like Idon't know, I feel like I wanted
him to get away with the money.
(51:53):
Obviously he's not a good dude, but it's kind of crazy that
this program is happening.
Speaker 1 (51:59):
Not only does he get
killed how he gets killed with
that corkscrew.
You know that corkscrew wasgoing to come back into play
because they messed with it likeeight times throughout the
whole movie A hundred timesSmoke and gun right yeah.
Some of the side characters, like the programmers who came
and collected the body and stufflike that they were.
They were funny because they, they, they generally thought
(52:22):
they could certain like um, seemlike concerned, like what
happened to her, and stuff likethat, and then they go back to
the cars.
Like you know, this is the nextthing.
People like fucking murderthese things all the time.
He was like this guy's an idiotactually.
Actually.
Yeah yeah, yeah, it was great.
It was a great movie have youseen?
Have you had a desire to seethis again?
Speaker 2 (52:43):
I want to show other
people this, like that's how
much fun this was for me.
I would absolutely sit down andlike throw this on the rotation
again.
Speaker 1 (52:51):
I'm going to ask you
this again too, like do you
think this movie would have donebetter or worse if it came out
in the summertime?
Speaker 2 (52:59):
so my hot take um,
yes, I definitely would have
done better, but I think forthis specific type of movie it
came out near valentine's day.
For whatever reason it came outtwo weeks early.
That didn't make sense to me.
Um, but like a valentine's dayrelease, like it's so in tune
for what this movie was goingfor, or I guess, guess, an
anti-Valentine's Day, but Ithink they missed the mark there
(53:20):
.
I saw this in Love Hurts Likeat the same time.
Oh, I hated Love Hurts and Ihated that.
That's why I had so much funwith this.
Speaker 1 (53:30):
I think the one like
I compared that movie Like Love
Hurts seemed like AI wrote thatone.
Seems like Iris wrote that oneum, it seems like iris wrote
that, yeah, no iris would havedone better.
Um, now I didn't get like love, like this school didn't been
good about valentine's day, maybe in the summertime because
it is a summer house thatthey're visiting and kind of
like, um, like a jason, kind oflike a cabin in the woods kind
(53:53):
of stuff, you know somethinglike that.
Speaker 2 (53:54):
Even maybe fall time,
when halloween is approaching,
okay, well, yeah, it's thecouple-y thing for me like
obviously, like this was avacation for all these couples,
so it just like kind of lentitself in my head to like, oh,
it's a good date night type deal.
Um, but yeah, it was.
It got crazy quickly and I 100.
Speaker 1 (54:13):
Yeah, recommend this
movie to anybody.
It's definitely a good datenight movie, like you said, like
having like people oversomething like that.
Like it's it's good to put on alittle bit.
It's not that hard to follow.
It's a very short watch veryshort, and it's gonna make you
see like what the fuck you knowa lot.
You'll have a lot to talk aboutafter watching it was a little
bit funny too, I'll give it thattoo.
I did chuckle a handful oftimes throughout the movie.
(54:34):
It it's just like not anyonemaking jokes, but like how
absurd something was.
Speaker 2 (54:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (54:40):
What would you give
this movie a one out of 10?
Speaker 2 (54:42):
Um uh, I think I gave
it a three and a half, so seven
again, yeah.
Speaker 1 (54:49):
Going right in that
seven range.
I want to say the same samething seven.
But out of the two Jack Quaidmovies that came out back to
back, which one are you going tore-watch first?
Novocaine for sure, novocaine.
Okay, I'll give you that.
I'll give you that.
Speaker 2 (55:09):
The action in it, man
, and, like you said, it's
funnier.
Speaker 1 (55:11):
So it appeals a
little bit more to that sense of
my brain.
What about you?
That was probably a moregruesome movie, but yeah, I'd
say the same thing, same thing,I.
But yeah, I would say the samething, same thing.
I'm going to re-watch both ofthem at some point, but novakane
is probably gonna be first.
Actually, I might even seenovakane again in theaters.
That's how much I like that one.
Okay, hell, yeah, yeah, um,brandon, this isn't gonna be the
last time.
Thank you so much for fillingin the very last second.
Again like this is like thelast minute episode we threw
together and a very good episode.
Speaker 2 (55:31):
Like I couldn't ask
for a better guest.
Speaker 1 (55:33):
It was better than I
was like plenty to be like or
who I was originally gonna dothis with.
Um, I know you're gonna becoming out for sinners again
that one.
I'm really gonna be forcing themovie theaters out of your
comfort zone because that one isa little bit scarier.
But it is michael b jordan andryan coogly cooly, is it cooly,
coogler, coogler?
Speaker 2 (55:52):
and I know you love
those two, so I mean, if it was,
if it was anybody else, I wouldhave hit you, I would have
blocked your number when youasked me.
Speaker 1 (55:58):
So but I mean it was
a tie between that movie or the
amateur, which one I wanted tosee, and I know you're a fan of
those two.
I mean a fan of ryan, michaeland ryan, so like, okay, I gotta
give this to you too, but areyou excited to see the amateur?
Speaker 2 (56:09):
I'm very excited to
see, I had not seen the trailer
until this, until I went to gosee novocaine.
I don't know how I missed it.
I've been in the theater and somuch I was like, oh, that's
gonna slap.
Like I know I'm gonna make funof that movie, but I'm like I'm
locked in rami malik, who it's aremake.
Speaker 1 (56:27):
Did you know?
I don't know if you knew thatit came out like in 1986 or
something like that.
I just recently found that outbecause I saw it was on hulu.
Uh, the original is on huluright now.
Then I might re-watch thatbefore watching the new one, but
it's similar concepts.
I don't know the direct titleoff the top of my head, but it
looks good.
What's it?
Lawrence Fishpond's in theretoo.
You can't go wrong.
Speaker 2 (56:49):
It's like a.
John Wick-y like it feels.
But it's dark and it feels likewe kind of hop into it.
I love it.
I love the unassuming hero, andrami malek can do no wrong in
that crazy person role.
Speaker 1 (57:01):
So I'm like it's kind
of like a psychological through
, like uh, thinking too, but hedoesn't necessarily kill them.
He find he's a smart guy, sohe'll find out what other ways
to kill you versus actuallypulling a gun on you.
Speaker 2 (57:11):
Yeah, yeah, he's not
a physical threat at all, and
they make that abundantly clear, which I almost appreciate more
yeah, yeah, I'm so excited toget into that one.
Speaker 1 (57:19):
Um, I believe I have
a first time you know who I'm
actually in talks having to comeon that, for that one is chris
fitz.
Chris fritza fritza fritzinatoryou might be making a debut on
this podcast for that movie forme.
Um, but again, brandon, thankyou so much.
Like I said, we're gonna beseeing you less than a month
coming soon.
Um, thank you so much forcoming on this podcast.
(57:41):
What are you currently bingewatching right now?
Speaker 2 (57:43):
right now.
Um, of course, the uh daredevilI'm locked into on disney glad
to have him back as mac murdochor farming every day, and uh
reacher on amazon prime thoseare good one.
Speaker 1 (57:54):
I gotta rewatch that
one.
Uh, I actually in the middle ofre-watching season one of
Severance because I want to geton season two.
Speaker 2 (58:03):
Okay, please let me
know when you finish.
I just wrapped that episode onSunday.
Is that the season?
Speaker 1 (58:09):

produces it.
