we go road tripping we have tohave candy, so that's why I try

going to sleep and you guys stayawake, yeah, so you got to eat
too, but lemons is the go-to.

days they're all gone and I'llnever touch them again until

We just celebrated Memorial Daylast week.

I say, when you, in Memorial Day, I think we need to
think of all the soldiers RightCause, you see, all the flags
hanging down.
Right, the city and it's allsoldiers.
But memorial, but it's.
It's fallen soldiers Memorial.
You're memorializing them.

Then why don't we say it's like a funeral?

Happy Memorial Day.
Well, I don't agree with thatand I don't hear a lot of people
, but when I do hear that Idon't, I'm like what are you
talking about?

somebody else brought that up too on their show about
why we say happy memorial daybut, when it's really not.

I don't hear a whole lot of it, but it stands out
when I hear it, because I don'thear it enough, yeah but, I want
to slap them and say what areyou talking about?
There is no happy.
We can celebrate it Thinkingabout them, memorialize them,
like I said, but why is it thestart of summer?
I'm not saying happy.
It's not like happy birthday,you don't say happy Christmas,
do you?

Just you know, because I wantto know.

I don't have to look at the calendar for Thanksgiving
because I know whenThanksgiving falls it's always a
Thursday, always on a Thursday.

I didn't know that Memorial Day is always the last
Monday of May.

used to be called Decoration Day.
Yes, and then in the 18, mid-18.

They still do decoration around here 50s, 60s,
70s.

It got changed to Memorial Day.
It was still unofficial at thattime.
Well, decoration in the Southis different than Decoration Day

What we're talking aboutDecoration Day, I think it was
just because of the civil war.
I think it was calleddecoration day because they're,
uh, um, memorializing the.
I think it was union soldiers.
They got killed.

So in 1968, Congress passed theUniform Monday Holiday Act,
which established Memorial Dayas the last Monday in May, like
I said a minute ago.

This is what they say In orderto create a three-day weekend
for federal employees.
But Memorial Day didn'tactually become an official
holiday until 1971.
And also, flags were to beflown at half-staff from sunrise
to noon.

Well, I'm pretty sure no.

I would hope most places shutdown, except I know hospitals

hill and then they start slidingand flopping and all this stuff

looks pretty dangerous.
I wouldn't do it.

There's a big difference.

No, I mean, what's the difference in riding a bull
and running from a bull?

You got to know what you're doing in both okay
situations.

the power that they have whenyou're in the shoot with them
it's an adrenaline rush.
It is an adrenaline rush, butyour nerves are like man, what
am I doing?

You know it's like there's nobacking out now.
But the kicker is it's likeit's one thing, because when you
first get on the bull and yousit down in the chute, you're
holding on to both To the rails,yeah, Right To the chute is

they lean to one side.
They're not standing up,they're leaning on one side.
So the guys have to put theirboots in between the railing and
push the bull upright so youcan get your leg down beside
them.
So guess what, now that you'vegot?

your leg sitting on them.

They move their boots , and what does the bull do?
He leans back over there.
So now your legs you know, yeah, so there's a lot.
Nobody thinks about that either.
But when you're sitting on themyou know you're nervous, you're
excited, adrenaline startingand all this stuff.
But it doesn't get real untilthey start tightening that bull

rope and when your hand tightensand you realize that it is so
tight.

You don't tighten the rope, do you?
No, your other dude, yourperson, tightens it, or whatever
you tell them when to stop.

But they tighten that and you've got, you've heated
up.
It's got rosin, you know, onthe bull rope and you heat it up

You're going up and down onthere and you're heating it up
with your glove.
Why down on there and you'reheating it up with your glove?
Why make it sticky?
So then, so when they tie, theyput it in there.
You put your hand in there.
They tighten it up.
It is so tight.
You're thinking there is no waymy hand's gonna come out of

Because it's so tight.

And I'm talking like I'm aprofessional and I'm by no means
professional.
If I'd have done it longer, Iknow I would have got good at it
, because it's just somethingyou'd have to learn.
You just can't do it.
You can and you just can't ridethree or four bulls and you
know you get buried.

Why got you started on riding bulls?

I don't know, I don't know the guy's eyes hanging
around, but anyway.
So once you get your hand tieddown, all this stuff or wrapped,
whatever you call it, you slideup on your hand and you have to
lean over the bull's head soyou want to be in front.
You don't ever want to get back.
If you ever get back on likeleaned back, you're in trouble.

If you ever get pushed off ofyour hand so you're actually
like sitting further on them.
So now, instead of your handbeing up close, you've scooted
away.
You're in a danger zone.
Your butt's on the back end ofthe bull.
He's going to pop you andyou're.
You're gonna be skyrocketed,yeah, but the other thing is
you're leaned up on the yourhand and your head is leaned up

over the horns or the hump, likeone boy I rode.
His name was sleepy.
They called him 71, also knownas sleepy.
He's got this big hump right.
So you're leaning over him likethis, right here, and it's like
you're, you know, gonna kissthe hump and you're thinking you
wear a mask no, I mean a anykind of cover face face cover no

just got killed.
A couple weeks ago I saw ohreally no, we, we, no.

If the bull lands solid on you,like on your chest, it's going
to kill you anyway with all thatweight.
So all that vest is basicallydoing is keeping you from
getting gored if he slings itand All that vest is basically
doing is keeping you fromgetting gored.
If he slings it and they're nottipped, the tips are cut off,

sanded down, whatever you wantto call it.
So you don't have a sharp point, you're not going to get gored,
but it still won't hurt if hegets you in between the fence
and horn.

on that you started, you wererunning with the bulls and you
asked me about riding riding ofthe bulls riding.

So would you rather ride or run?

See, I just think that's thecraziest thing ever.

Well, no, if I'm running, are you talking about
being on the streets?
Just like they do or are youtalking about me being in a
field.

Are you talking about any situation and you're having
to run away?

I'm talking about what they do to run another bull

trampled on.

I'm waiting on the bulls to come around the corner.

We know they're coming eventually, and every all
these guys are standing aroundwaiting, and then we just start
taking off running I'm taking mychances with that.

Yeah, okay, I can push a guy down and you can get
trampled on and get pushed down.

Speaker 1 (24:26):
Yeah all right because if I do that it's legit.
I'm touching a bull because I'mriding a bull.
I'm in a shoot, we're makingcontact.
There could be more contactcoming.
I could get hurt.
If I'm riding a bull, if I'mrunning with the bulls, there's
a 95 99 chance.

Whatever it is that I'm noteven gonna get near it.
So possible?
