Shannon D Martin (00:01):
Hello, beautiful welcome to today's
conversation where we're goingto talk about understanding the
mind-body connection.
Let's talk about it.
I'm your host, Shannon Martin, and welcome to today's episode
of this Thing Called Wellness.
Hello and welcome back.

(00:21):
I hope it's sunny where you are.
It's a bit dreary here inGeorgia and the rain just keeps
coming, but we are here againfor another week, and this week
I wanted to talk to you about amind and body connection.
Mind-body connection is definedas the idea that our thoughts,

(00:42):
emotions and physical sensationsare all intertwined, meaning
that our mind and body areconstantly communicating with
each other, and by doing this,it has a great impact over how
we feel.
Now, isn't that something?

(01:02):
Minds and bodies are reallytruly amazing.
For instance, when we'restressed out or feeling anxious,
mind will send signals to ourbody that releases stress
hormones, and these can lead tosymptoms like tension, headache,
digestive issues or chronicpain.

(01:24):
And I know we've all felt thatsometimes the mind and body are
not separate.
What affects one affects theother, anonymous.
But on the other hand, ourlifestyle choices have a way of
impacting our mental state.

(01:44):
Our lifestyle choices have away of impacting our mental
state.
For instance, if we'rephysically active, like we
exercise every day, we eathealthy, we have our regular
required daily water intakeright.
We're feeding our mind positive, good things, so it benefits us
.
We're sending signals to ourmind that will improve our moods

(02:07):
and energy levels and our focus.
The way we think and feel caneither support or sabotage our
physical health.
The power of our thoughts andbeliefs can affect our mind and
body.
Thoughts and beliefs can affectour mind and body.

(02:28):
Having negative talk, chronicstress and live-in-teen beliefs
can contribute to our pain andfatigue, which can then lead to
excessive chronic illnesses likediabetes, heart disease and
digestive issues.
On the other hand, if we usethe power of positive thinking,
self-care and mindfulness, wecan boost our immune system,

(02:51):
reducing inflammation andimproving our mood and energy
levels.
Therapies can help us workthrough our past traumas that we
store in our bodies and help usrelease them, giving us a new
way to heal and feel better.
The body achieves what the mindbelieves Anonymous.

(03:13):
So what does all this mean?
We have talked about all thisbefore and it all comes down to
the same conclusion, but itcontinues to get deeper into how
we think and feel on a dailybasis.
We're not always going to feel100% every day.
Some days we may get to 50%.

(03:33):
At best we may get to drinkfour glasses of water for the
day, maybe even two.
We may eat two solid meals andone liquid that day.
We may only eat one liquid andone solid.
We may not have planned themeals out on Saturday and Sunday
for the week, or we may nothave exercised the four days out

(03:56):
of the week for 30 minutes eachday.
That's required to keep ourbodies moving.
We may just be doing the bestwe can, taking note of it and
doing a little bit better thenext time.
The next time, because when youare in a state of depression or

(04:18):
anxiety, you're exhaustedpretty much some of the time.
Right, your body has gonethrough a lot of unrest on the
inside and you have to give hertime to heal.
And I think about my bestfriend said you know you have to
take baby steps.
I heard her but I didn't reallylisten.

(04:39):
I thought I could bounce backand be fine, but no, you really
have to take your time.
Your body may not have moved inyears like mine.
I was sedentary for a few years.
I gained weight and a couple ofthose chronic illnesses were
added to my ailments, so I hadadditional concerns.

(05:02):
I had to be careful what I ateor didn't eat.
I had to be careful of sugars, you know, gluten and all the
kinds of things that I never hadto worry about before.
I had to start educating myselfon different ways of cooking
and eating and drinking, and Istill do, because I have to

(05:23):
continue to create a cleaner, healthier lifestyle for myself
as I'm getting older, and it hasbeen challenging, and that's
when this new way of thinkingand believing comes into play.
If I don't believe that I amover 50 and I can lose this
weight, I can and willstrengthen my inner core,

(05:47):
because I'm totally fatigued andmy body is just, totally, just
mushy right on the inside, and Ican beat this chronic pain that
I feel on a daily basis, nomatter how much it hurts.
I will keep moving thesepositive affirmations I tell
myself every day and the prayersthat I say.

(06:09):
They just have to keep me going.
They, they have to be presentevery day and foremost in our
lives every day, to continue tobe on this wellness journey.
We have to pay attention to howwe feel and how we're not
feeling, and when we're notfeeling well, we have to use the

(06:33):
techniques and tools that we'retaught, like the meditation,
the deep breathing, self-love,physical activities and
mindfulness to get ourselves outof that state or that vicious
cycle right, as well as knowingto rest and reset Mindful moment

(06:59):
.
Today we talked about themind-body connection.
Remember that they areconstantly communicating with
each other, like two bestfriends.
They're chatting away, tryingto keep each other balanced out,
trying to help each other out.
They're constantly talking.
So by practicing self-care andfinding what works for you will

(07:22):
nourish both your physical andemotional well-being, improving
our mental health and buildingresilience in the process.
Remember, take small steps eachday to care for your mind and
body can lead to significantimprovements in your overall
well-being.
By paying attention to yourconnection and making conscious

(07:44):
choices, you can create a deepersense of well-being and on your
way to thrive.
Love you, girl.
