Speaker 1 (00:20):
Hi, everybody at This is Bob Wolf. Welcome you to
the second game of the nineteen fifty eight World Series
for the Gellette Safety Razor Company. Here in Milwaukee's County Stadium,
the New York Yankees and Milwaukee Braves have finished batting practice,
and in a few minutes umpire at Charlie Berry will
call playball to thank you for using its products. To
Let presents this another feature of sports attractions the year round,
(00:44):
including the World's Invitational Match Game, Bowling Championships, the Blue
Gray Football Game, the Rose Bowl Game, the Kentucky Derby,
the All Star Baseball Game, and the Top Fight of
the Week every Friday night. The weather is sunny Bride
Norman plus just right for baseball. Temperature right now is
about sixty degrees and it should be going up into
(01:06):
the mid sixties by the time this ball game is
on the way. Another capacity crowd is on hand for
the second game of this nineteen fifty eight World Series,
and defending World champion Milwaukee Braves are against the American
League Pennant winning New York Yankees. This second game shapes
up with as many dramatic possibilities as yesterday's opener won
(01:27):
by the Braves in a tenthening single by Bill Bruton,
the same Bill Bruton who last year at this time
was lying in the hospital watching his teammates win the
series without him because he was undergoing surgery to correct
a knee injury. Bruton came off the bench to pinch
it in the ninth inning yesterday, stayed in the game,
and in the tenth delivered the hit which made a
four to three winner of the great Milwaukee South Paul
(01:50):
Warren spot to try to make it two in a
row for the Braves. Today, manager Fred Haney as nominated
the famed Yankee killer of the fifty seven World Series,
Lou Burdette. Hoping to end Burdett's mastery of New York
and even the series, Yankee manager Casey Stengele has put
the finger on his ace right hander bullet Bob Turley.
The two pitching rivals both enjoyed their greatest seasons in
(02:13):
nineteen fifty eight. Burdette, crashing the charmed circle of twenty
game winners for the first time, won exactly twenty lost
but ten. After a slow start, he rallied in July,
won eleven out of thirteen decisions in one hot streak
and comes into the series on the crest of a
tarred pitching pace set in September. Turley also had his
best season, topping twenty victories for the first time, winning
(02:36):
twenty one games and losing only seven. Turley completed nineteen
games in which he was the starter. He won as
many games this season as any Yankee pitcher of the
last twenty four years. Turley, liked Burdett, also pitch fine ball.
In the fifty seven World Series, he was a three
to two victor over the Braves in the sixth game,
and it was his victory which set the series into
(02:57):
the seventh game, won by Burdett and the Brave. As
an ironic twist to the Burdett story, the Amazing West
Virginia was traded away to the Braves by New York
in nineteen fifty one. He came back to haft the
New Yorkers in nineteen fifty seven. Verdett it was who,
after the Yankees won the first game of the series,
pitched the second game and even the score for Milwaukee,
(03:19):
beating Bobby Shantzon a seven hitter four to two. Later,
it was Burdett who pitched the Braves into a series
lead of three games to two as he defeated Whitey
Ford won nothing but another seven hitter, and finally, when
Spawn was felled by the flu Verdett pitched with two
days rest and in the seventh game went another shot out,
five to nothing over Don Marson on his third seventh
(03:41):
hitter of the series. The performance of Burdett was astonishing.
His feat of winning three games in a World Series
was the first of its kind in thirty seven years.
His accomplishment of two shutouts in one World Series was
the first of its kind in fifty two years. Counting
a scring of shutout angs in his first game of
the series, for Death has prown together a chain of
(04:01):
twenty four straight scoreless innings against the famed Bronx Bombers.
The drama of Purdah Proponants continues into this series. Lou
goes into this game with a fair shot at one
of the proudest pitching records of World Series history. With
twenty four straight scoreless innings behind him, Lou was within
five and two third innings of equaling the record of
twenty nine and two third streat shutout innings recorded in
(04:24):
the series of nineteen sixteen to nineteen eighteen. The holder
of this record is Babe Ruth. The nineteen fifty eight
World Series is being brought to you from County Stadium
in Milwaukee. Now for a look at the Milwaukee lineup.
Bill Bruden leaves off. He's in center field, batting second.
At second base Red Shane Deans. The number three batter
(04:46):
at third base is Ed Matthews. Batting fourth, playing right field,
It's Hank Aaron. The number five hitter is Wes Comington
and left field. Frank Tory is a first base he's
botting the number six position. Dal Frandle is batting the
seventh and doing the catching. Johnny Logan is at short
stop he's bouting eight, and Lou Burdett is the pitcher
of batting night. And for those of you who may
(05:07):
be jotting them down, let's quickly go over both of them. Hurry, hurriedly,
boy you just before the game gets on the way
for New York again. Bower's in right field, McDougall at
second base, Mandel and center field, Howard and left field,
Barrel catching scouring the first base, Carry at third base,
Quebec at short and Turley pitching the same Yankee batting
order as yesterday, with the exception of Bob Churley in
(05:29):
the mouth. And for the Braves, Bill Bruton is in
center field leading off. He did not start yesterday, but
delivered the game winning hit. He's in center field, a
left handed battle against Turley. Red Chendings is at second base,
Matthews at third base, Aaron and right field Comington and
left field Tory at first base. He also did not
start yesterday. It was a left tended swinger, so he
too is in the Sathannoons starting off. Randall is catching
(05:51):
Logan at short stop, and Burdette is doing the pitching.
And that's how they go into the second game of
the nineteen fifty eight World Series. Now, as we get
set for action this afternoon, already we've had enough frills
to satisfy even the starchest of baseball fans. In the
first game yesterday, there were home runs by the Yankees,
Bill Scoured and Hank Bauer. There were great infield plays,
(06:13):
especially by play base plays the Braves. They were great
crawls in the outfield, and of course there were a
big timely hit in the ball game, which set this
large crowd here a home in a great delirious fashion
with a tremendous roar, as the Braves took the first
one right here in Milwaukee, and now the Milwaukee Braves
have gone out onto the playing fields. We get set
(06:35):
for the first picture of the second game, and it's
my pleasure to bring up to the microphone. But the
play by play whatever, our nation's top sports cast is
the voice of the Milwaukee Braves, Earl Gillespie. Well, thank
you very much, Bob Wolf, and good afternon everybody. The
weatherman certainly has cooperated once again, as it's a beautiful
day out here, the Braves out on the playing field.
And there is something lacking though, because in every World
(06:57):
Series we have the pleasure and privilege of shaking hands
with High Commissioner of Baseball mister Ford Frick, who will
not be here in Milwaukee for the first two games
of the series. Mister Frick is resting comfortably at his
home after an appeneductomy last week. Representing mister Frick is
mister Charles Seeger, Secretary Treasurer of Baseball, and mister Frank
Slogan from the Baseball Front Office. Where we're getting all
(07:20):
set to Goluberdett notching twenty victories for the first time
in his career as a Milwaukee Brave, twenty wins against
ten defeats. Thirty one year old right hander who now
lives down in Florida, but hails from Nitrow, West Virginia,
six two, one hundred ninety pounds. A very nervous type
worker as he fidgets quite a bit out there in
the mound trying to throw off these opposing hitters. Crandall
(07:43):
fires the baseball at second base. In the outfield for Milwaukee,
it is Wes Covington and left Billy Broughton in center field,
and Henry Aaron and Wright in the infield. For manager
Fred Haney, Eddie Matthews at third, Johnny Logan at short,
Red Shandan stood second base, and Frank Harri at first base.
On the mound, Lieberdette and behind the plate, del crandall
(08:07):
the umpires. Charlie Berry of the American League is calling
the balls and strikes Gorman of the National League at first,
Flarity of the American League at second, Barnick of the
National League at third base, Frank you One of the
American League down the left field line, and Bill Jakowski
the National League, down the right field line, Hank Bower
in the battery's box. Here is the first pitch, and
it's a spike call. The second game is underway. Hank Power,
(08:29):
who yesterday had two hits, including a home run, in
five times at battlef Warrens Faun, batting at four hundred
in the series, has hit safely in fifteen consecutive World
Series games, a record that stands alone. The pitch is
swung on a gumbo of the shortstop's left. It's going
through in the center field from basin and Bower, who
let off with a single yesterday, bounces won up the
(08:51):
middle in the center field, extending his batting speak to
sixteen consecutive ball games. Bouncing single up the middle, one
off Louberdatt and it brings up the second baseman, Gil mcgogold. Mcgoggold,
who had two fifty this year as the New York Yankee,
is batting five hundred in the series. Two hits and
four times at bat he all came up with a
(09:14):
couple of singles yesterday. On first base.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
It is Hank Power who let off yesterday with a base.
Speaker 1 (09:21):
That then was picked off first base by Warren's pond.
Here's a swing and a long foul down the white
field line and strike one on mcgoggold, right headed batter
who reached out punked a long drive foul down that
white field line, a strike one count. Ralph punk is
coaching at first base for manager Casey Stengle. Frank Cross
(09:43):
out of He is at third base Yankees with a
man on first top half of the first inning. Nobody
is out on. Duck is the switch hitting center fielder
Mickey Mantle.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
Loberdatt the livers and the pitch is too low.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
It's even up at bowlwin and strike one. Lou who
is third one years.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
Old, chucked up three victories over the Yankees.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
Last year, four to two, won to nothing, and five
to nothing, and has twenty four consecutive scoreless innings going
for him. In his first appearance here in the nineteen
fifty eight series, all won, strike one count. The pitch
is cut on. There's a fouled on the right field line.
It's going to be a baseball souvenir. Ball went and
strike till on Gill McDougal, and I think Gill cracked
(10:26):
his bat starts walking over towards the third pace dugout Well.
The responsibility of evening the series rest Squirley on the
shoulders of Bob Turley, who was a twenty one game
winner this past season. Big strong right hander's sixty two
(10:47):
and two hundred and fifteen pounds all won. And strike
two we have a about the same type win as yesterday.
Blowing from right to left at approximately ten miles an hour.
It will help a strong right handed battery run around
first base takes the lead. The pitch is in too
(11:08):
close and mcconna is even. At ball two strike two
Gill McDougald, thirty year old second baseman who has proved
his versatility for Casey stangle. Gil has asked to look
at the baseball as the Yankee hitters, no doubt, are
(11:30):
watching very carefully to see if mister Burnett will doctor
up the ball. This is nothing new to Lou as
he's been challenged many times by opposing hitters in the
National League. Ball two strike two, Bower leads off first,
puts cut on the ground ball of the third basement.
A high jumper that's going to be a close play
over the first base of bad troll gets by Tory
(11:52):
here is power running third base. I'm being held up
as runner at McDougall goes to second base along traw
that Tory cannot take out of the dirts, and the
Yankees have owners on second and third with nobody out.
That was a high jumper, one of those tantalizing type
plays for an infielder, and Matthews set back on the
(12:13):
ball waiting for that big Hunt made the bad throw
and that's gonna be an error on the throw by
Eddie Matthews. So Milwaukee comes up with his first error
in the series, and it certainly puts Lubert out of
the jam. As the Yankees have owners on second and
third and nobody out, and the battery is center fielder
Mickey Mantle, who is going to receive an intentional walk,
(12:33):
and they'll bring up Elston Howard. An intentional walk is
being given to Mickey Mantle, a three to all four
hitter this year, leading home un hitter in the American
League with forty two ninety seven RBIs, and Mickey was
blanked yesterday by Warren's vun all for three. As the
Blayers go to percentages here with mental batting left ended,
(12:56):
they hope to set up a double play situation first base.
So when there is ball four, Mickey moves down the
first base line and so a base hit by power
He's throwing her by third baseman Utie Matthews putting on
hiss on second and third and a walk to Mickey
metal have load of the bass here at Milwaukee County Stadium,
(13:17):
and the batter is left fielder Elston Howard.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
Howard is looking for his first base of the series,
all for five.
Speaker 1 (13:25):
Stuan right handed swinger who cracked out eleven home runs
for the Yankees this summer, drove in sixty six runs.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
The outfeel is playing him around to the left.
Speaker 1 (13:33):
The inn feel is playing deep with the exception of
Matthews and Tory Logan and Shandeast.
Speaker 2 (13:39):
Aren't back hoping for that double play ball, and a.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
Left tender Juan Pizarro begins throwing in the bullpen for
the Braves. Here's a swing in a double foul ball
bounced up off the plate and as Howard cut around hard,
they ball hit up off his bat and bounced down
the first place side.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
Swike win count on Elston Howard. Howard steps out of
about his box uber down in a real gam.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
Here on the top half of the first in he
as the Yankees have a lord of the bases on
duck is catcher Yogi Barah where that takes his time.
He's a slow, deliberate worker. Out in finn of snake
one coup the pits cut on fiel tip.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
Then it's swike two spike two count An Howard, who
is twenty nine years.
Speaker 1 (14:35):
Old born in Saint Louis, Missouri. Elston stands six to two.
He weighs one hundred and ninety pounds. Now lives in
New Jersey. Spike too. Conon Elson hard Darl Crandell took
(14:57):
another foul tip against his body. I have two yesterday
that caused him a little concern. The languish sweight two
counts Howard Saint fairly close together, slightly close dance New
York Yankees on first, second, and third. Nobody is out
bass Jam Burdett in real hot water. In the top
(15:19):
half of the first inning, stretch into the motion the
zero and two pitch. I'll swing at a chupper. The
second baseman's gonna score a run. The pack is a
second base and he is forced at second base in
a close play high end failed chopper that was taken
by Red Shandanes to tossed to Johnny Logan. A run
scores and low Bredette's chance to tie the record set
by the immortal Bay Ruth of twenty nine and two
(15:41):
thirds consecutive scoreless innings falls by the wayside as the
Yankees leave won the nothing that will be a one
batted in for Eunston Howard and a feeler's choice scoring
bower from third base, McDougall goes to third. Mickey Mantle
is forced at second base. One man is out, and
here is Yogi Barra, healing down to the on deck circle.
(16:05):
First baseman Bill Scowlin, mcktobl on third, Alston Howard on
first base. One man is out. Yankees have drawn first blood.
The pitch is outside ball, one ball one, no strikes,
and a little guy who packs a good punch, Yogi Barra.
Yogi yesterday came up with a couple of basis and
(16:27):
four times at bats, so he's hitting five hundred on
the season. Baut of the two sixty six, but Wallop
twenty two home runs and drove in ninety runs, playing
a very important part in the Yankees American League finet
clincher here's the stretch by Liberdad. He delivered. He's the
pictures one one outside. It's ball two, two and nothing.
(16:48):
Lulberdadd with that good sinker, but got a too low
ball two no strikes. Twenty one year old self for
one Pizarro. He is throwing the right center field bullpen
for manager fet Haney. Barras out in front, two and
(17:08):
all pitch. Yogi takes a spike right down the Elliott's
ball two strike one ball two and a strike one
count Yankee runners perch don first and third base, New
York leading one nothing, top half of the first for Dad,
(17:32):
who just yelled down at del Krendall goes up into
the stretch, arms down to puts his cut on. There's
another high chopper to the second baseman like the second
mace out over the first place and a couple player time,
a quick couple player the first and light teams. But
three World Series shame beings. It's along in the tory.
One run, one hit, one er, one man was.
Speaker 2 (17:57):
Left on base, and the score is New York one
Milwaukee nothing.
Speaker 1 (18:03):
Well. Yesterday, a veteran Warren's Fond defeated the New York
Yankees Fani's thirty seven years old. But in this country, Slaughter,
one of the great players in the history of both
the National and the American leagues, is forty two years old,
still active on the Shanky squad. You know, Slaughter's first
World Series was seventeen years ago, and that's almost as
long as Gillette has been broadcasting this Paul classic. This
(18:26):
is Gellette's twentieth. To celebrate the event, they've come up
with a World Series special that's bigger than any they've
ever offered. For just seventy nine cents, you get a
Gellette one piece TV razor, dispenser of Gellette blue blade,
and styrene travel case. How's that for a bide? Save
yourself some money right now, replace your old razer with
a modern Gillette convenient and fast change blades with a
(18:49):
twist Rents queen and a Jiffy But most important, you
are guaranteed peak shaving comfort, clean refreshing shaves that give
you a lift. First chance, you get stuff in at
a nearby store and pick up a Gelett TV razors set.
Just seventy nine cents for the razor, the spenser of
Gellette blow blades, handy travel case while.
Speaker 3 (19:09):
They last.
Speaker 1 (19:15):
In the last half of the first toning Yesterday's here
All Goilly Broughton, starting in center field this afternoon, will
lead off four of the Braves Broughton, Shaneingston, Matthews, three
south paw swingers to face the Wright handed Bob Turley.
Turley great record going into the series twenty one wins
and seventy feats against the Braves last year and the
(19:36):
Faul Classic he won one and lost none. His lifetime
record in World Series Action one victory and two defeats.
Billy Bruton, Lieutenant Batter takes the first pitch. He's spike
on the inside quaranty high Yankees lead won the noth
thing in the last half of the first inning. Third
baseman Andy Kerry is playing in a couple of steps
(19:56):
on the infield grass pitches two low. He was the
count of ball one and strike one. Bob Turley this
summer fired six shutouts, started thirty one ball games for
Old Casey Stengele and completed nineteen working in two hundred
and forty five innings.
Speaker 2 (20:16):
Pitches him the ball two, strike one along the way.
Speaker 1 (20:20):
In those two hundred and forty five innings, Big Bob
allowed one hundred and twenty eight walks and struck out
one hundred and sixty eight fatters. Ball two in a
strike one counts on the braves leadoff man, center fielder
Billy Bruton coaching for Fred Handy this afternoon. Billy Herman
at third base, Johnny Fitzpatrick at first base. Nobody on
(20:44):
base and nobody off. The last half of the first inning,
Braves trail of the Yankees won nothing. Bob Turley going
again today with no wine up kicks and delivers, and
it's a strike on the inside corner above the knees,
evening the count of bunches. Strike two down the left
(21:06):
thee line here at Milwaukee County stadiumn it's three hundred
and twenty feet while down the white field line and
it's three fifteen pitches too low full count three and
two in straightaway center fail it's four hundred and two
feet in deep left center three ninety four and in
deep white center field three ninety four. And once again,
(21:27):
of course, this ballpark is jammed the capacity all three
strike two rooting deep on aboutter's box swings, there's a
drive back in the white veil. Why that crown up
the wall as night fall back Well Broughton, who broke
(22:01):
up yesterday's ball game in the tenth winning of the
line single white center failed, just tied up this ball
game with his first world serrings homer. I'll want up
that clear that white fail fence with space despair as
baller stopped and just looked up. The score is tied
one and one. Second baseman Red Shane East, swings missus
spake one. The Redhead is hitless in four times, in fact,
(22:24):
going into the second game, dotting at two to sixty two.
On the season, he had twenty three doubles, a triple,
one homer, and he drove in twenty four runs. Here
is the pitch, small curve is too low and it's
Paul one and spake one. Bill A. Bruton finding the
home run range and that is Milwaukee's first home one
of the series. Yankees leading homers two to one.
Speaker 3 (22:49):
Paul one.
Speaker 1 (22:50):
Stake one counts on Shane East.
Speaker 2 (22:53):
He swings as the light drive a white fail going
over a his ball.
Speaker 1 (22:56):
He can't let the plate. The fires left the laces.
Shandy sticking a second base that he's going to hold up.
On the doubles, the balls took a crazy hup away
from Hank Power. It is scoring as a two BaseT
(23:20):
for Red shand Things, and that's his first base out
of the series. And there's a terri of action out
of the bolt but in the right center field as
the Great Klaid Jackies are going to start. Somebody loosening
up Broughton with a home run, Shane Dings with a
lion double the rights and it brings up third basement
Eddie Matthews, Eddie looking for his first base in of
(23:40):
the series. All for three, strong left headed butter who
hit two fifty one for the Brave this summer. Thirty
one homers, seventy seven runs batter. Then score is tied,
one to one, lead run on second base, nobody gets out.
Here is the pitch to wed and a curve break
(24:00):
possing away and in front of Jogie Barrett. No chance
for Sendings to move to third base. And it's ball
one and those strikes a right hander Duke Moss, former
Detroit Tiger, is warming up for the Yankees in the bullpen.
Duke Moss all one and those strikes on Matthews Saindings
(24:22):
done second base. Nobody is up. Ballgame is tied at
one and one, and the crowd is still buzzing after
that long home run by the lead off man, Billy Bruton.
Bruton had a total of three home runs all through
nineteen fifty eight in the National League, all won those
strikes on Matthews. The white hander, Bob Turley end of
(24:45):
the stretch, arms down, he delivers, and here is a
slow curve for a Carl strike. It's even at ball
one and strike one. Ball one, strike went count Billy Herman,
coaching at third base, yelling out to the run around
second Brett Shandeings, the redhead, now thirty five years old,
has given the Braves outstanding baseball for the last two years.
(25:07):
Here's the one one pitch and it's in there called
strike two. On the last two pitches, Bob Turley has
had Matthews off stride as he's pulled a spring and
Edie was leaning out across the plate. All one and
strike two. Matthews in the hole, Turley into the stretch.
(25:29):
Here's the one and two pitch and it's quite free.
He is called out. Eddie. Matthews takes a breaking pitch,
Pullowa volts on the inside corner and that is strike
out number one. For Bob Turley. Matter is right fielder
Henry Aaron. Aaron came up with a double off the
(25:50):
right field screen yesterday that just deloaded Hank Powers leaping grasp.
Aaron had one for four. He's hitting two for fifteen.
The finished with a three twenty six average this year.
Thirty homers and ninety five RBIs run around second base
and one out. A smow curve breake slowing outside. It's
(26:10):
ball one and those strikes. Charley Berry of the American
League is behind the plate this afternoon. Ball one. Those
strike gowns. Yankee. Outfield is deep to the left for
Henry Lee enfield is just about straight away all those
second basemen. Gil McDougald is shading Aaron over towards second base.
(26:33):
The one and old pitch that is a spike on
the outside corner right around the letters. Now the breaking pitch,
and it's ball one and strike one. Ball one, Strike
one counts. The wind seems to have shifted a wee bit,
as the flags indicate that it's blowing more out towards
left field and from right field to left Ball one
(26:56):
and strike one. Score tied one the last time of
the first inning, Milwaukee County Stadium, the scene of action
second game of the World Series. Braves took the opener
in ten and ings four to three yesterday behind Warren's
bond with Reinald Duran the losing pitcher, and the stretch
goes Bop Turley.
Speaker 2 (27:17):
One man is out, the pitches in too close.
Speaker 1 (27:21):
Fall two, and strike one on deck is Wes Covington.
The Braves have their home run title rested away from
them this year by the Chicago Cubs in the National League.
In nineteen fifty seven, they led the National League in
homers with one hundred ninety nine Braves at one hundred
(27:43):
and sixty seven. This year, Wall two and strike won
the count Red Shandy's done second base. One man is out,
but here's the two to one pitch. Ball three is
(28:05):
low and outside. At three and one. Duke Moss continues
throwing harder the Yankee boll pen, Bob Turley finding weather
the storm in the last half of the first Ball three,
strike one, one man is out, here's the pitch and
(28:26):
it's fall four, So Turley gives up his first walk.
Bombu issued on eight walks during the season. Walks henry
erin on pliant pitches What's a runner on first base,
Henry Aaron, a runner on second base, Red shand Aainst.
(28:49):
One man is out. Score tied one to one. And
here is the left fielder, Wes Covington. Wes is looking
for his first series base hit all for four. Case
Eastingle is standing on the edge of the steps on
the third base dugout.
Speaker 2 (29:07):
Bob Turley's first pitch too low, they slow curveball.
Speaker 1 (29:10):
That's Paul one and those strikes. So Bob Turley, who
is trying to get this side out here in the
last half of the first inning without any further damage,
has to be very cautious right now on an explosive
lieutenant batter Wes Covington. Bunners on first and second base,
(29:34):
one man is out. Here's the one and O pitch
and that's a strike on the outside quantity I slow
breaking pitch and it's even at bawl one and strike one.
These two teams will be leaving Milwaukee after today's ball game.
Tomorrow is an off day, a travel day, and on Saturday,
the third game of the series will be playing at
(29:56):
Yankee Stadium. Neither manager, by the why would give their
starting pitchers for Saturday, Casey Stingle or Fred Haney, Ball one,
strike one, want to leadoff first and second base. Here
is a small curve that's too low comingon. Was going
to swing held up, and it's ball two, ball chip,
(30:16):
strike one. West, who turned out to be one of
the defensive stars in the nineteen fifty seven series with
two great catches one at Yankee Stadium and want to
here at Milwaukee County Stadium, has been hoppled by a
knee injury all season. Turley glancing back over the white shoulder.
(30:40):
Two to one pitch, ball three. It's inside. Now it
is three at one and a five pitch will hold
them up and bring up the first baseman, Frank Toy.
Bob Turley. So far here in the first hitting has
been throwing a lot more curveballs than he usually does,
(31:01):
breaking off some slow stuff. One man is out runners
on first and second three to one pitches.
Speaker 3 (31:09):
Swinging a pall.
Speaker 1 (31:10):
Now it's a full count three and two, ball three
and strike two. Billy Bruton let off of a home
run off front Turley, Chainding's double the right field and
the ball that peered away from Bower bouncing crazily off
the grass, rolling to the screen and right Matthews was
(31:30):
call out on strikes. Aaron drew a walk in a
three to one pitch, and that's where this ball game
stands right now, tied one to one. Braves runners on
first and second base. One man is out of the
three to two pitch, coming up to Wes Covington West
out of the batter's box. West goes very slowly around
that batter's box. Charley checks with Yogi Barra ball three,
(31:59):
strike two. There's stretch. Here's the three to two pitch.
He's swinging the pile back into the screen on the
pitch around the letters, how remains a three and two.
As the tension increases here in the last half of
the first Yankees scored a run off Lubert At, stopping
(32:22):
him after he had shut out New York for twenty
four consecutive score listenings all three and strike two. Covington
waiting tourney delivers. Runner's going to swing a crumb on
the second place in vider the white start feeling the
place that one letter scoring.
Speaker 2 (32:39):
Here is our moving around third base and.
Speaker 1 (32:41):
Thing hold up by Billy Herman taking of the n
philis cut by Hey, or rather by Bill Scollon, and
that might be off for Churley as the all professor,
one of the most colorable man in the history of baseball,
casing Stingles takes the long walkout towards that mound as
coming in singles the white center field, out of the
reach of Joe McDougald, scoring shady some second base moving
(33:04):
here and around the third. Milwaukee has one who's on
first and third as west Comington drives in his first
run of the series, coming up with his first base hits,
and the Braves take a two to one lead over
the New York Yankees. We are going to get a
(33:25):
pitching change. It is going to be Duke Moss moving
in from the bullpen and right center field. And right now,
let's pause thirty seconds for a station identification.
Speaker 4 (33:59):
When you shop for a mixer, remember Sarahtoga Vishi is
the real ishy. The Saratoga Vishi Company does not make Vishi.
They bottle this right from the pure waters of the
Vishy spring.
Speaker 3 (34:10):
Get the yellow, yellow, yellow yellow.
Speaker 1 (34:15):
Saratoga VIHI, the real Dishy folks.
Speaker 4 (34:18):
Prepare for the dangerous winter driving ahead my safe good
years of Urban nine winter tires with a lifetime guarantee
from Albert E. Oliver Incorporated Albany, New York.
Speaker 1 (34:30):
I started twenty games and came up with five complete games,
giving a forty eight walks and had seventy win strikeouts.
So he is going to replace the Yankee starter Bob Turley,
who now moves across the third baseball line heading for
the Yankee dougout. That'll be all for Bob Turley. And
(34:53):
we see the right hander Duke Moss talking with Casey
Stingle and Yogi Barra. Mors stands five to ten, weighs
one up at sixty five pounds. He's twenty seven years.
Speaker 2 (35:03):
Old, born in Yodica.
Speaker 1 (35:05):
Michigan, now lives in Madison Heights, Michigan. And he's smoothing
off the drd of the mound and ready to take
his warm up throws, tossing down to Yogi Barra. Mab
Turley worked one third of an inning so far as
(35:27):
allowed two runs, gave up three hits, walked.
Speaker 2 (35:30):
One, and he struck out one.
Speaker 1 (35:33):
In the Yankee outfield, Helston Howard isn't left, Mickey Mandlin
center field, and Hank Bower and right, and he carry
at third base, Tony Kubeck at short, Jill McDougal at
second base, and Bill Scowland at first base. It is
Duke Moss on the mound, making his first appearance in
the World Series. Duke Moss and Yogi Barra is doing
(35:58):
the catching right now. Milwaukee has Henry Aaron on third base,
Wes Covington on first base. Two runs have scored, and
Moss tells on fire Charlie Berry, he's all set. So
Frank Torrey, Lieutenant Butter who was used as a pinch
hitter yesterday and popped out to the short step Tony
(36:19):
Kubeck steps into the Brier's box. Tory had a fine
season under manager Fred Hainey, betting at three h nine hits,
six home runs, and drave in fifty six runs. Frank Torrey,
with Milwaukee runners perched on first and third, one out,
two runs across the plate, Braves laid the Yankees two
to one, and of the stratch, Duke Moss arms down
(36:42):
deliverers and it's low and outside ball. One of those
strikes all won those strikeouts. We have what you would
call perfect weather for this time of the year for
a World Series ballgame. Temperature around sixty two degrees, humidity,
of thirty five percent, and it's warmer than it was
(37:03):
out here yesterday. Into the stretch, Duke Moss delivers and
Tory swings.
Speaker 2 (37:08):
It's a high fly.
Speaker 1 (37:09):
Ball, a short left. Elston Howard camping under this ball
as Aaron takes it. There there's the catch as Henry
draws to throw a long throw and now Aaron, moving
down the line, goes back in the third base lighting
a long throw by Elston Howard. And it's a good
thing that Duke Moss was backing up Yogi Berra as
there was Moss who had to take that long, long
(37:30):
rifle throw from Howard in left field. Karin, as he
saw the ball carrying over the head of Yogi Berra,
moved down the third base line about twenty feet, but
was forced to hurry.
Speaker 2 (37:44):
Back as Moss fired out to Andy Kerry.
Speaker 1 (37:50):
On the throw. Wes Covington moved over to second base.
So now Milwaukee has runners on second and third and
the batter's catch your del crandall coming the tag that
first went to second base as the long throw was
fired in by Elston Howard, Aaron on third coming to
the second, two outs to the one rage lead. Last time,
(38:12):
with the first inning, Crandall had two for five yesterday,
adding a four hundred of the series eighteen home runs
this year sixty three RBIs. The pitch is hanging outside.
Speaker 2 (38:24):
That's Baul one to Dell Crandall right handed better.
Speaker 1 (38:30):
We have more actionable Yankee bullpen as Johnny Cooks against
throwing right handed Johnny Cooks ball one. In those strikes
the pitches swing, I missed Crandall going after the curve ball.
That's even up at ball one and strike one, ball
(38:51):
one on a strike one count lot of excitement here
and the very first inning in Milwaukee County Stadium, as
the Yankees drew first blood, scoring one run, Braves bounced
back with two and Milwaukee has runners on second and third,
two outs. Duke Moss delivers lowing inside ball two, fall
two and strike one on deck is shortstop Johnny Logan.
(39:15):
The Braves have sent six hitters up to the play.
This is the seventh Delk Crandall. They have scored twice
on three hits. Both runs charged to start a Bob
Turley and Duke Moss is trying to take the Yankees
out of further trouble here. In the last half of
the first inning, five ft ten inch right hander into
the motion to one pitches, swinging a lighter fall down
(39:38):
the left field line, fall two and strike two line
fall as Crandall was out in the front of the pitch.
The New York outfield plays Crandall deepen around the left
soon as the infield with Gil McDougall about a step
out on the outfield grass and lined up with white
(39:58):
center field. First baseman Bill Scolen is getting Crandle the
first base foul line as he's over about twenty feet
to his right, over towards second base. Two outs two
to two. Pitch is in close all three spake two,
(40:19):
ball three and a spike two count three and two
on catcher Jalt Crandall Milwaukee too the Yankey's one the
last half of the first Moss takes his time, looks
(40:41):
around at the runners on second and third base, then
glances down at Yogi Barra sntching an.
Speaker 2 (40:46):
Emotion three two pitch ball four.
Speaker 1 (40:49):
He walks him and that loads him up and brings
up the short stop Johnny Logan. That's the first walk
giving up by Duke Moss, and now Milwaukee has lord
of the bases with Aaron on third coming Toon on
(41:11):
second base, Cramble on first base. There are two outs.
Short stop Johnny Logan, who his first time up yesterday
crashed a double doublefv A Line had one for four
for his afternoon's work. Logan, a right handed batter standing
probably close to the plate, takes the fastball in close.
(41:32):
I'm the handle, Paul. One of those strikes.
Speaker 2 (41:35):
Logan was offstride this year at the plate.
Speaker 1 (41:37):
He finished at two twenty six, but he managed eleven
home runs and Golvin fifty three runs on field playing
deep to the left, So is the infield Paul. One
of those strikes. Duke Moss in the motion delivers there's
a swing in a high flyball double left field far line.
(41:59):
Elston going over towards the foul fence and cannot make
a play at Jenneva Fleacher crowd.
Speaker 2 (42:05):
Long fowl evens the count. At ball one and strike.
Speaker 1 (42:08):
One, Covington was around third base and CRAMPLLL was right
on his heels. Aaron's on third, Cmington on second base,
and Crambled on first base. Braves have scored two runs
on three hits, including a lead off home run off
Turnley by Billy Bruton. Ball one strike one count. Duke
(42:35):
Moss seems to weigh the base ball in his hand
before he gets his sign from Barra. White foot up
and the rubber starts in the motion. Here is the
one one pitched to Logan. There's a swing on the
line right off behind.
Speaker 5 (42:46):
This is the baser scoring comes coming there comes up
through up the mouse getting Howard and he is stigment
Hall and yo'll be.
Speaker 3 (42:53):
Barrow like up point what Heaven's staff.
Speaker 1 (43:04):
Short stop Johnny Logan come throwing a big base and
the faces loaded singles down the left be a line
as the Braves scored two more runs, and Johnny Logan
moved a second base on the thront of the plate
because he finds in his first two runs in the series,
(43:25):
getting Milwaukee a four to one lead, and all four
runs are charged to start. Bob Turley hitting number four
for the Braves. Runners on second and third base, Randels
on third, Logan on second, and here is low burd
ad and a pretty good heading. Pitcher Duke Miss delivered
a swing and a tie back of mine failed fly back.
Speaker 5 (43:47):
Along wait Cord fall back back.
Speaker 3 (43:50):
In gold.
Speaker 5 (44:04):
Well over that joa the home run what center failed
Betts three more runs of sport. A great thrill out
here for him over det and the bright followers on
hand of Milwaukee County Stadium as low heads one a
long wife, the three ninety four mark.
Speaker 1 (44:23):
Not just where they us center field bets a free run,
home run ads.
Speaker 3 (44:29):
Down Milwaukee seven.
Speaker 1 (44:31):
The New York Yankie's won, and that's gonna be all
or do Moss.
Speaker 3 (44:39):
Who've got one man up, working.
Speaker 1 (44:42):
One third of an inning, gave up three runs, two hits,
he walked one, he had nos my guts and we
got our third Yankee pitcher, a right hander, is moving in.
(45:13):
I know all time series record has just been established
by the Milwaukee Braves seven runs in one inning.
Speaker 3 (45:21):
The previous record was six.
Speaker 1 (45:26):
As Milwaukee now enjoys a seven to one lead and
Johnny Cooks goes in from the bullpen. Johnny Cooks, I
know all time record has also been established or run
scored by both clubs in the first inning of a
(45:47):
World Series ballgame. Eight runs so far have scored. This
is Johnny Cooks, twenty five year old right hander, and
a handout for Duke Mooss as he heads for the
shower room as the Braves bats have been booming here
in the last half of the first inning a couple
of home runs. Johnny Cooks, who hails from Paul Bulkan,
(46:13):
New Jersey, now lives in Hillsdale, New Jersey. Twenty five
year old white handerstand sixth grade. Weighs one hundred and
eighty pounds. Johnny Cooks.
Speaker 3 (46:27):
This year for the Yankees one.
Speaker 1 (46:29):
To eighth, and he lost as his turned run average
was three point ninety two. He started fifteen ballgames for
Casey's single and completed four and he'll work on a
top of the batting order Billie Brewton. As the Milwaukee
Braves have batted around in the last half of the
first inning, Johnny Cook's firing down to Yogi Barrah boy
(46:54):
in this crowd is really alive out here. Now Milwaukee
has seven runs on five bits. The Yankees scored a
run of the first inning on a base hit by Power,
a throwing her by a third Basemanetie Matthews, which put
runners on second and third base. Mickey Mammon was then
walked intentionally and Howard, on a feeler's choice, drove in
(47:16):
the Yankee run with Power crossing home plate. This by
the way going back, if you're a figure Philbert is
the Milwaukee Braves biggest rally of the nineteen fifty eighth season,
and we're getting a change in the outfield now for
Casey's tangle. Norm Seaburn is moving into left field. Norm
(47:41):
Seaburn goes into left field, replacing Elston Howard. Johnny Cooks
has just about completed his warm up throws and the
leadoff man, Billy Bruton, who fell that they turnly pitch
over the white field fence. He is up for the
second time in the inning. Two out of the young
(48:08):
bassn Ducket's right shandines. Johnny Cooks checks his sign with
Yogi Berra. I'll feel about straight away for Billy Bruden.
Third baseman is playing in close. Here's a swing on
a pole first place side. There's the out of plane
(48:28):
at strike one scor Milwaukee seven and the New York
Yankees one. We're in the first inning. He'll be brute
now with a batter's box looking down at Johnny Fitzpatrick.
Johnny Cooks starts in the motion. It' taull yank you
right hand. Their fires in close and it's even up
(48:50):
at ball one and strike one. Ball one, strike one counts.
So now the Yankee outfield has Seaburn in left, Mandelin
center field, and power and right pitches outside ball two
two and one two outs. The Braves have nobody on
base as lowberdats Tweendom a three run home run off
(49:13):
Duke Moss two to one pitch to Billy Bruton, a
swinging a ball is up to the left of the
out of play, and it's even up on Bill at
two and two. Ball two and a strike two counts.
(49:35):
Second baseman Gil McDougall is playing deep, so is the
first baseman, Bill Scouring, and Hank Power is very deep
in right field. Ball two strike two clocks delivers pitches
swung on a pop file back here and it's gonna
land the screen behind the plate. Conry Manning at two
(49:57):
and two, who baseball goes out to Johnny Cooks. The
Braves that exploded here the last half of the first inning,
scoring seven runs off Bob Turley and Duke Moss to
two pitch, a swing of a line drive at the
short stop to repair the side, a line shot at
(50:17):
Tony Kobak and a leap up for the ball, and
the last half of the first inning seven runs on
five hits, no airs and nobody was left on base.
At the end of the first inning, the score is
Milwaukee seven. The Yankees won. Hello there, everybody, I'm Mal

Speaker 1 (51:40):
The Yankee son of Phil Scoleon, Andy Carry, and Tony Kubeck,
first three mount of face white header Lubdatz. Scoleland had
two hits in four times at fat yesterday, voting at
five hundred and this with a two seventy three voting
average this year with fourteen homers and seventy three RBIs.
(52:00):
Bill Scourn, a Chicago boy, right handed batter, strong takes
spike one on the inside corner, no ball, one strike,
couns nobody on, basing nobody out. The Yankees batting in
the second Milwaukee leads seven to one. Scourn looks out
(52:21):
at lowberdept As the fidgety right hander delivered. The pitch
is cut on. There's a high flyball center field drifting
over to his right. Now is Billy Bruton coming in
on the ball and he makes the catch for the out.
Scourn flies out to Bruton and left center field. That
is one away and it brings up third basement Andy Carrey. Incidentally,
when Lowberdett hits that three run home run on the
(52:43):
last half of the first inning, it was the first
home run did in a World Series by a pitcher
since Bucky Wallers of Cincinnati, nineteen forty. Pitch to Andy
Carrey is a spike on the outside cornery high. Carrie,
looking for his first base of the series, has nothing
(53:04):
for four. Finished with a two eighty six average this year.
Oh one pitch, here's a swing of a mess on
a slow breaking pitch, and it's fake. Two and Perry
went all the way around that time, trying to give
the ball a ride. Yankee half of the second New
York Training by six runs seven to one. On deckas
(53:25):
short stop Tony Kubeck, Oh two pitch, a swing of
a mess. He stuck him out of three pitch. I'm
gonna strike out number one for low verdet Two men
are up. Brings up the short stop Tony kubec I
(53:45):
left tenant better. Kuebec was hitless yesterday against Warren's pont
oh for four. Tony, who stands six three weighs one
hundred and ninety pounds. It's only twenty one years old,
Leftenant batter. First pitch is too long and it's a
(54:06):
ball of all one of those strikes. All won those
strike counts. Two men are odds. Nobody on base in
the second All won those strike counts on Tony Kubeck.
(54:26):
I feel a shaded slightly toys right for Tony won
an old pitch and it's flowing outside. Ball two. As
Kubec looked like he was going to try to bunt,
took the.
Speaker 3 (54:37):
Pitch too long.
Speaker 1 (54:37):
Ball two and those strikes. Kuebec during the offseason last year,
played a little basketball with some of the Milwaukee Braves
around the midwest two and old pitch, and that's a strike.
Glinter high on the inside corner. Ball two and strike one.
(55:00):
Ball two and a strike one. Count Burdette has gotten
the first two Yankees scowling and a white ball the
proven and left center Harry on three pitches a strikeout victim.
Here's a swing in a high ball third bay side
and a baseball souvenirs. The count is even at faull
two and swike two, Ball two and strike to the
(55:25):
count on Tony Kubeck. The pitcher Johnny Cooks is doing
the hit. Next on Duck is leadoff man hank power
two to two, pitch curve is blowing inside. It's fall three,
fall three, and strike two. Milwaukee has seven runs on
(55:48):
five bits, the Yankees one run on one hit. Tony Kubeck,
who has picked last year as the American League Rookie
of the Year, has also like many other Yanks, he's
proved himself very versatile, has played quite a few different positions.
A swing list he's struck him up three Player of
the Side breakout number two for Fordets. No runs, no hits,
(56:11):
no errors and nobody left on base and the score
is Milwaukee seven and Milow York Yankees won. Well, there's
no trouble picking out the star of yesterday's ball game.
Billy Bruton came through the big hit that told the story.
But the news that's ringing cash registers and stores all
over the country is about Gellette's World Series special, the
(56:34):
Gillette one piece TV Razor set at the low low
price of seven the nine cents. Yes, sir, it's real
news when you can get a modern Gillette razor, dispenser
of Gellette blue blades plus the Styrene travel case for
only seveny nine cents. What an opportunity for you fellas

(56:54):

and cleaning takes butter rints. A bargain like this doesn't
last long. She'll be fast. Pick off your Gellette TV
razor plus a dispenser of Gillette blue blades plus a
(57:14):
handy travel case for seventy nine cents while they last.
Speaker 3 (57:27):
The second game of.
Speaker 1 (57:28):
The nineteen fifty eight World Series moves on the last
half of the second with Milwaukee leading the New York
Yankees seven to one. In the batter's box, leading off
its second base, the Red shande East. The Redhead double
down the right field line and the first inning and
came around to score run. And in the second Johnny
Cooks will face Shane Eas, Matthews and Erin pitchers in
(57:48):
there for calls, strike one, spike one counts. The outfield
is fairly deep about straight away as Rhet takes a
slow breaking pitch in close and it's even at bowlwin
and strike one. Eddie Matthews on deck. Aliston Howard was
(58:11):
taken out of a lineup because of us framed left me.
Here's a swing in the grumble of the second baseman.
Up comes Gill mcgoggle, over the first place. He is
out and that is one away.
Speaker 3 (58:24):
Sane needs this tossed.
Speaker 1 (58:25):
Out by Gil mcgoggles. Then brings up the third baseman,
Eddie Matthews. Eddie was called out on strikes in the
first inning. I left tenant batter with one out and
nobody on base. Once again, that wind seems to have
shifted around. Here's the pitch. There's a swing and a
chopper poul down the first baseline. It's fielded by the
(58:46):
first base coach, Johnny Fitzpatrick. Just a few seconds ago,
the wind looked like it was moving in from right
field right down to its home plate instead of across
the outfield from right to left. No ball one, strike
count on Matthews. We're in the last half of the seconds.
Braves leave the Yankees seven to one. Right handed Johnny
(59:10):
Cook's deliverers and it's over but low and that's the ball,
so it's even up. Ball one and strike one on
deck is the plays white fielder Henry eron.
Speaker 2 (59:22):
Ball one, strike one count.
Speaker 1 (59:25):
Cook's the third pitch he used by manager Casey Stengle
fires a strike as Matthews watched it go by, and
it's ball one and strike two. Here is the wind
up and the one and two pitch that's hanging outside
(59:46):
ball two. Eddie Matthews so far in the series has
not hit a fair ball. Yesterday, he struck out three
times walk twice. This afternoon, he was called out on
strike's first appearance, ball two, strike two, one out, nobody
on base. As the right handed Johnny Cooks kicks and delivers,
(01:00:08):
there's a swinging adviy the left center field sever and
racing over that ball is out there for extra bases.
It's cut off by Severn. But here is Matthews in
the second base with a stand up double. A bat
has hit number six more the Milwaukee Braves, and their
(01:00:29):
fourth extra base hit of the sixth. They have two
home runs, two doubles, and two singles. A run around
second base, one man is out as Anny Matthews comes
up with his first series base hit. A booming double
the left center field brings up the right fielder Henry Aaron,
who walked and scored in the first inning. Aaron standings
(01:00:55):
deep in the batter's box, almost a straightaway stand slightly closed.
Run around second and Aaron swings. It's the high chopper
of the second baseman's left over is McDougall close the
first he is out as Matthews moves around the third base,
so kill McDougall has taken care of two Milwaukee hitters.
Here in the last half of the second Shaan dingstan
aeron sandwich between was a double by Matthews, who now
(01:01:17):
is on third base with two odds, and the batter
is left fielder Wes Covington. Covington drilled a single to
right center field the first inning, driving in a run,
and this big, strong, leftenant batter also scored a run
two outs. Seddi Matthews on third base. Johnny Cooks right
(01:01:40):
foot up on the rubber, gets his sign from Burrah
and a time as call as Covington, who hates the
white steps out of the batter's box. Philly Herman had
something to say to whatddye Matthews at third base, Billy
coaching at third. Here is the pitch and it's high.
(01:02:01):
All one those strikes, All one of those strikes to count.
We're in the last half of the second at Milwaukee
County Stadium, second game of the series, where the Braves
leading seven to one.
Speaker 2 (01:02:19):
Johnny Cooks very slow workers starts in.
Speaker 1 (01:02:22):
The motion delivers and there's a swing of the ground.
Speaker 5 (01:02:25):
Ball in the center field the base and there's a
right story and it's eight to one.
Speaker 1 (01:02:28):
As coming toon vides in this second fu of the afternoon,
a change up and West was waiting for it. House
done a like a cat with a hired smash in
the center field, and Milwaukee now has an eight to
one lead, as Comington is two for two with two RBIs.
(01:02:51):
That is hit number two off Johnny Cooks Frank Torry,
who fly the left field of the person thing takes
wall one, lowing out all won those strikes. Milwaukee out
in front of the New York right now eight to.
Speaker 2 (01:03:10):
One, with the one around first base and two outs,
the pitcher is.
Speaker 1 (01:03:14):
Cut on as the grand ball of the second base
from mcgigill picks it up, closed the first peas out
and that retired the side. So on the last half
of the second Milwaukee scores one run on two hints.
There were no errors, one man was left on base,
and at the end of the second inning the score
is Milwaukee eight, New York one get George Gilletts razors
(01:03:47):
Man bottom let's as you went in short supply, so
he reindent get George Gillett's.
Speaker 6 (01:04:00):
Razors, go get one past in Luck got seventy nine
thanks instead of the fuck.
Speaker 1 (01:04:18):
The pitcher is due to lead off for the New
York Yankees, Johnny Cooks, and he'll be followed by Hank
Power and Gil mcgoggle. And evidently Cooks is going to
hit because Manager Casey's thingle has nobody loosening up on
the bullpen and right center Build Pray has got a
runoff Cooks in the last half of the second and
enlarged their lead to eight to one. Luber Debt, taking
(01:04:41):
his barm up throws take the second base by Krendall.
Cooks has yet to move out of that Yankee dugout
on the third bay side, although Power is waiting on deck.
Luber Debts one of the most colorful guys in the
National League. He is ruddy, you know, low when he's
(01:05:02):
out of the mountain. He's talking to the pitcher or
to the catcher rather, he's yelling down at the hitters,
and he's talking to his infielders, and he might even
yell something to the crowd once in a while. He
says it helps him relieve any tension that might.
Speaker 2 (01:05:16):
Build up out there in close situations.
Speaker 3 (01:05:19):
But it's amazing at the times.
Speaker 1 (01:05:20):
When it's quiet in the ballpark. How you could hear
if you're close by lou yelling down to that hitter
or his catcher wail. There's Johnny Cooks. Johnny's think a
lot of time moving out of the dugout. He's up
there now, right handed. Batter outfield is playing him around
the left about medium. Here is a strike on the
(01:05:40):
inside corner of the eye medium in depth infield straight away.
With the exception of Shandy S he's shading him a
little bit towards his right and so is playing Tory
strike when caught on Johnny Cooks, Yankees betting on the
top of the third per debt, delivers Pitt his cut
on miss Wick two swike to the count Whitey Ford
(01:06:05):
yesterday looked very, very sharp. Ford had eight strike cuts
as he sailed along with got in trouble in the
late innings. Eight strike cuts and seven innings curve flake
slow outside. It's ball one and strike two, ball one
and strike two. The lead off man for the Yankees
(01:06:25):
here on the top half of the third is pitcher
Johnny Cooks. Heard that reaching down for the rozen Sick
logoes through many many motions on the mound, starts in
the motion, kicks off his left leg and delivers the
pitch has got on foul back behind the plate, Paul
one and strike two on the New York pitcher Johnny Cooks.
(01:06:47):
And in case you are just joining us, Milwaukee jumped
off to a seven to one lead in the first inning,
added a run in the last half of the second,
and the Braves had the New York Yankees eight to one.
Here in the third.
Speaker 2 (01:07:01):
One and two pitch that is high and it's ball two, ball.
Speaker 1 (01:07:05):
To strike two. B that relies mostly on breaking stuff
his delivery three quarter on delivery and sometimes from the side.
It gives that baseball a natural tendency to dip for
a what the pitchers will call a sinker to two
pitch swung on, there's a ground ball, it's in the
right field for a basehead. The pitcher Johnny Cooks singles
(01:07:28):
to right and that is Hi number two off bluebird
Death brings up the right fielder Hank Faller, who has
established quite a record in World Series action. When Hank
single the center field of first, the thing that meant
that he had extended his batting streak in World Series
action to sixteen consecutive ballgames. He is one of the
(01:07:56):
really great old pros on this Yankee ball club, if
you want to call thirty six years old old Bauer,
who's been around quite some time now, is appearing in
his ninth World Series. Run around first base, nobody is out.
The pitch to hank a swing of grumble of the
(01:08:17):
short stuff might be two over the second base, out
over the first.
Speaker 5 (01:08:20):
And double fly and it's a way in the bird.
Speaker 1 (01:08:28):
A double play logan the Shandings the Tory, and that
double play is number two for the Braves. Has a
double play in the first that ain't killed off. A
Yankee rally, a budding rally after they had scored one
run and had runners on first and third base, when
(01:08:51):
Burra hitting a twin killing Shaneing's to logan the Tory.
Now here's kil McDougall with two outs and over the
gun base. White headed batter takes the first pitch breaks
outside of ball aaull one and those strikes on duckis
center field and Mickey Mavile the pitch. McDougall looks at
(01:09:13):
a ball two. It's outside two and nothing ball two,
no strikes Bred Shandyast turning around, tearing out of that
scoreboard in right center field. Two enough in to count
on Gil McDougald, who was safe on a throwing her
by Eddie Matthews in the first inning that led to
(01:09:33):
the run off louberdeat two. All pitch in there, call
strike one. It's two and one. Working the pow line
this afternoon. The boys in blue are Frank you Moan
of the American League down the left field line and
Bill Jakowski of the National League down the right field side.
(01:09:54):
Two to one. Pitch swung on a line vibe down
the white field line. This is a ball, ball off
the battle of Joe mcdougals, and it's even up at
fall two and strike two.
Speaker 3 (01:10:10):
Getting to the opposite field.
Speaker 1 (01:10:11):
That fall has that natural spin. If you're a golfer,
that'll be called a slice hitting that direction, slicing off
to the right, and a pole by about ten feet,
ball two, strike two, two outs, nobody on base.
Speaker 2 (01:10:27):
In the third Yankees trail.
Speaker 1 (01:10:29):
Eight to one. The pitcher's cut on as a grumble
of the short stop Slogan takes the big hop pump
in the first base heat is out and New York
is three up and three down, no runs in one hits,
no errors, nobody left on base, and the score is
Milwaukee eight, New York one. Well, just about everybody catches
(01:10:50):
a few innings of every series game, and it seems
like just about everybody got the message about Jillet's World
Series Special, because all stars all over the country are
reporting a land office business for the Gelette TV Razor
set at seventy nine cents at best rate. They won't
last long at this parking price seventy nine cents from
(01:11:11):
modern Gelett TV razor dispenser of Geelette blue blades plus
a styrene travel case. The precision engineer Gelllett TV Raiser
guarantees your real shaving comfort, clean shaves, fast shaved to
keep you looking your best hours longer, one piece, a
twist of the handling you change blades, fast rents clean,
and a Jiffy double that's two for double economy. So
(01:11:34):
fans look for the Gelett TV razor display at your
favorite store, get one for yourself, or buy them as gifts.
While this dollar value is only seventy nine cents, de'll
(01:11:56):
traandle leads off for the Milwaukee Braves and the last
time of the third as the players spent up the
tail end the boding order Crandell, Logan and Verdett, and
the tailing of the order was good for three runs
in the last half of the first inning, as Crandell
walked the Logan single, driving in two runs, and Verdett
builded a three run home run. It's all would go
to the last half of the third with Milwaukee out
(01:12:18):
in front eight to one, and the first pitch to
Crandall is a spike on the outside corner. The hell
who walked scored in the first inning, no ball won, strikeout.
Cooks delivers outside evens the counted ball one and strike one.
Casey Stingle has named his starter for the third game
(01:12:40):
on Saturday. It'll be right handed Don Larson. Here is
the one to one pitch, a swing and a drive
back in the left field. Seaburn is waiting on the dime.
He makes the catch and that is one away. Crandell
lines out to Seaburn in left field and it brings
up the shortstop Johnny Logan.
Speaker 2 (01:12:59):
Johnny drove in two runs. Were they two out bases.
Speaker 1 (01:13:03):
Loaded single in the first inning, and this fiery shortstop
who hails from Endacott, New York, has two hits in
five times that battle. The series takes a curveball outside
ball one and no strikes. We mentioned that Larson will
be the Yankee starter on Saturday, but manager Frett Haney
(01:13:25):
will not name his starter until tomorrow after the Braves
workout at Yankee Stadium. Here is a spike to Logan,
so it's even up on John. Ball one and strike one.
Ball and strike one counts. One man is out, nobody
on base. Were the last half of the third as
they get a cloud formation overhead blocking out the sun
at the moment, curveball outside ball two, ball two and
(01:13:48):
strike one. Braveslee in the World Series one victory. As
they battle the Yankees in the second ball game pitch,
there's a swing and a chop off the plane. It's
a file ball and it evens the count at ball
too and strike two. A lot of speculation has been
(01:14:10):
going on, as a matter of fact, amongst the Milwaukee
Riders towards the waning days of the fifty eighth season.
A lot of speculation as to whom Hani will start
in the third game. Here's a swing and a foul
back on the screen. It's two and two. Everybody, of
course knew that fed would start either Spawned Burdette in
(01:14:31):
the first game and the other in the second, which
has happened, of course, with spawn going yesterday and Bredett
working today, ball too and strike two. Here's a swing
of foul back into the screen. Fred Haney had planned,
I believe, long range plans a couple of weeks before
the series to start Joey ja very sharp young right
(01:14:55):
hander with good breaking stuff. But he broke a finger
on a smash off the bat of Joe Cunningham or
irb Norn rather over at Saint Louis a couple of
weeks ago, and is not in the series. Is not
eligible as he was taking off the list.
Speaker 3 (01:15:10):
Curve breaks outside.
Speaker 1 (01:15:11):
It's all three, three and two on Johnny Logan with
one out of nobody on base. Outfield is playing around
the left raves out in front of the New York
Yankees eight to one in the bottom half of the third.
Here is the three to two pitch. There's a swing
(01:15:32):
in the grundball to the short stop Tony Kubeck up
pop in the first base. He is out and it's
two away and the last half of the third. Logan
is tossed out by Kubeck. Of course, when you talk
about selecting pitchers, and Casey's tingle is named Don Marson.
Here's a very fine hand for louper dat blue velvet
(01:15:58):
of a three run home run on the last half
of the first in me besides pitching some sharp baseball,
and he takes a couple of warm up swings, which
has the crowd buzzing before he moves into the batter's box.
Two outs, nobody on base. Johnny Cooks into the motion,
kicks his leg and fire the pitches a breaking pitch,
hang outside ball one, ball one of those strikes. Two outs,
(01:16:26):
last time of the third at Milwaukee County Stadium, one
and all pitches ball two. It's too low two and
nothing on for death. The Yankee pitchers have given up
two walks, one by Bob Turley and the other by
Duke Moss. Here's a ground bottle. The third baseman's left
(01:16:46):
in the hall nic stopped by Kullback throwing it's in
time in a verry playing play by Tony Kuback to
retire the side. Three up, three down, no runs, no hits,
no errors. Nobody left on base. At the end of
the third, the score is Milwaukee eighth, New York Yankees one.
Speaker 7 (01:17:05):
Hey, don't tell everybody janu By because Janet only has
hid supply of jet TV rasers deep this price.
Speaker 1 (01:17:19):
Just seven and Herby Hervey, Hervey past.
Speaker 8 (01:17:28):
Jot TV raiser.
Speaker 1 (01:17:36):
Here are the three ending totals at Milwaukee County Stadium.
The Braves eight runs, seven hits in one ever, the
Yankees one run, two hits, and the Heirs. In the
top of the fourth inning, Casey's thingle sends up his power.
Mickey Mental, Norm Seaburn, and Yogi Berra. Seburn replacing Elston
Howard in left field, is batting in the number four spot.
(01:18:05):
Little Burdette took a little while before he moved out
of the dugout as he was the last man up
in the last time of the third. And those pitchers,
of course like to have a breather before they move
out to challenge the hitters. And here is Mickey Mental,
who has walked intentionally with runners on second and third
base and nobody out in the first inning. And if
(01:18:27):
you're going back over that first the strategy paid off,
as the Yankees man is just one run with a
basis loaded, no odd situation switch hitting. Mickey Metal, one
of the strongest men in baseball in a long long time,
takes the first pitch high and it's fall one of
those strikes. Mickey Mental, who had a total of one
(01:18:50):
hundred and fifty eight base hits this year, including twenty
one doubles, one triple and forty two homers, just missed
one hundred runs batted in with ninety seven. Here's a
drive back in the right sound fail that falls at
a long way back back towards the wall.
Speaker 3 (01:19:03):
It is a home run for Mickey Mental.
Speaker 1 (01:19:19):
Home run for Metal, and that's his first World Series
base out of the year, and the score is now
eight to two Yankees, trailing a long drive to the
left of the three ninety four mark.
Speaker 3 (01:19:34):
That ball travel around four hundred and twenty feet into.
Speaker 1 (01:19:37):
The Milwaukee bullpen, and that also is Mantal's tenth World
Series homer. Now Here is a spike on Norm Seaburn.
Speaker 2 (01:19:47):
Norm Seaburn, making his first appearance in this nineteen fifty.
Speaker 1 (01:19:50):
Eight series, had a very fine year in the American
League betting at three hundred, fourteen homers and fifty five
runs batted in. Seaburn, a tall, lanky, leftended batter, bat
poise off the left shoulder, swings Missus Fike two. Now
the all time record for home runs in the World
(01:20:12):
Series is fifteen, and as I mentioned, Mickey Mantle now
has ten, so at only twenty six years old, Mantle
has a very good shot at that World Series mark.
It straight two count on. Norm Seburn up for the
first time, replacing Elston Howard in left field earlier in
the ballgame, takes the ball that's outside one and two. Seaburn,
(01:20:36):
twenty five years old, hails from Welston, Missouri, now lives
in Denver, Colorado, during the offseason. He's a lanky batter
at six feet two and two hundred and five pounds.
Speaker 2 (01:20:56):
Nobody on basing, nobody else. The home run by Mickey Mantle.
Speaker 1 (01:20:59):
Was hit number three off Luberdet Fordett deliverers and there's
a swinging a foul. It's out of play on the
third bay side. The count remains at one and two
of all won strike two counts. Sebran backs out of
the batter's box. Luberdet standing back off the rubber tugs
(01:21:23):
at his cap now reaches down for the Rossen Sack
drops it, going through his motions before he starts into
the lined up. A one and two pitch, a swing
and a foul as Seburn managed to get a piece
of that ball. It's one and two, all one and
strike two. The crowd right now has quite a down
quite a bit, and they have seen some real scoring
(01:21:44):
so far in this ball game. It is an eight
to two game, ten runs a scored bray of scoring
seven runs in the first and one on the second.
The Yankees scoring one of the first, and so far
in New York has one across here in the fourth,
a one and two pitch, there's a swinging a fault
for the upper deck third base side, and the count
remains ball one and strike two on Seaburn on deck
(01:22:07):
is Gotr yogi bera ball one and strike two. Both
of these teams will hold a workout at Yankee Stadium
tomorrow before going back into the series on Saturday. In
the third game, the one and two pitch, that's inside
(01:22:27):
ball two pitch breaking in on a left tended better
ball to strike two. Yesterday, the Brave's got a look
at a pretty good screwball thrown by Warren Spahn which
breaks away from a right handed Better. Uh the right
hander out there right now for the Braves. Lou Burdett
also has a very fine screwball which breaks away from
(01:22:48):
a left handed Better. Lou does not use his screwball
as much as Spamas, though, to two pitch a swing
a high chopper to the second baseman. Stinting's waiting up
over the first base he is on on.
Speaker 3 (01:23:01):
That's one away. Stevern is tossed up by the red headed.
Speaker 1 (01:23:04):
Second base Bret Shane Dings, so it's one out. The
Yankees send up their catcher Yogi Barra, who grounded into
a double play. Shane ingst to Logan the Tory in
the first inning, left handed batter, and Bruton now starts
(01:23:31):
shading Barra over towards left center field. The pitch and
Yogi looks at straight one of the outside corner at
the letters. Verdette back across the rubber again turns his
back on Yogi Berra, showing us that red number thirty
three that he has worn all six years in Milwaukee. Barra,
(01:23:53):
the left handed batter with one out of nobody on
base one right across in the fourth inning, Here's a
swing and the grumble of the shortstops left. Logan over
has the ball the first base. He is out of
that two way in the fourth as Barra is tossed
out by Johnny Logan and Yogi now in the series,
has two hits in six times of bat. Hitting at
three thirty three brings up the first baseman, Bill Scoleron,
(01:24:15):
who flied to Bruton and left center field in the second.
Bill Scoleron, who gave the Yankee followers their last ray
of hope last fall in the ninth inning of the
seventh game of the series, when he builded a hard
shot down the third base fine with the bases jammed,
but Matthews turned into a great play, stepped on third
base for the FoST play, and the series was over.
(01:24:37):
It's just too high and it's ball. One of those
strikes on Scoleron, who missed a few ball games of
the series last year because of a bad bat ball
won those strikes to us. Nobody on these Yankees botting
in the fourth and they trail eight to two for
(01:24:58):
death delivers. Coln swings rolls one fall over towards the
n duck hitter Andy carry All one on the strike
one counts. The shadows are beginning to lengthen down. It
crossed the first base fall line, with the outer fringe
of the shadows just reaching the pitcher's mound. All one,
(01:25:23):
strike one comfort that wheels deals the pitchers swung on.
There's a high fly ball down the right field foul line.
Aron over towards the stands and he reaches over and
he cannot make the fly its in the stands of
foul ball. High twisting fowl down the right field line. Aaron,
moving on the run across the foul line, reached to
the crowd, but that fall ended about two rows into
(01:25:45):
the box seats and the count on bill scouring ball
one and strike two one into the count. Scarron, who
(01:26:05):
was born in Chicago now in the off season, lives
in Hillsdale, New Jersey, swings and pups one five out
of play, it's still one and two. Scarn, twenty seven
years old, is appearing in his fourth World Series, and
(01:26:26):
so far in this series he has two hits in
five times at bet. Hitting in a four hundred clip
braves leave the Yankees eight to two. New York batting
in the fourth er, debt comes down with a one
two pitches swinging a miss spuck him out on my
fiking pitch, and that is flake out number three four
for debts. One run on one hit, the mighty home
(01:26:46):
run by Mickey Metal. There rena errors and nobody was
left on base. The score is Milwaukee eight the New
York Yankees, two radio sportscasters all over the cunt. She
really gave a big play to Warren's Fond's pitching and
hitting in yesterday's thriller and the nose of this year's
Gellett World Series special, the Gelet one piece TV razor

in stores everywhere. Here's a bargain that's a butte. For
just seventy nine cents, you get the Gellett TV Raiser,
a dispenser of world famous Gellett blue blades and handsome
styrene travel case. What a money saving opportunity to replace
your old razor with the up to the minute Gellette

you longer, far longer convenient too. One piece construction gives
you instant play changing and cleaning, and to all this
the extra economy of double edges and you've got a
real value. What for the display at your favorite store,
A solid dollar value with dispenser of Gillett blue blades
(01:27:52):
and handy travel case. Your Gelllett TV rasor costs only
seventy nine cents as long as the supply holds up
the top of the batting order for the Milwaukee Braves
the last half of the fourth inning, it'll be Billy Broughton,
Red Shane Dains, and Eddie Matthews. Broughton hit a home
run his first time up over the right field fence,
then laned out to the short stop. Also in the
(01:28:13):
first inning, has ten men went to the.
Speaker 2 (01:28:14):
Plate in that seven run barrage by the Braves, and
he takes the first pitch.
Speaker 1 (01:28:19):
Slowan inside for the ball.
Speaker 2 (01:28:22):
Ball one of no strikes, which is outside.
Speaker 1 (01:28:24):
Ball two, two and nothing. Broughton, now in World Series action,
has two hits in four times at that two runs
batted in, and he's done a mighty fine job for
manager Fred Haney. Here's a line ride the right veil
for base hit. Billy Broughton hits a line shot.
Speaker 3 (01:28:42):
To right and that's set number right for the Braves.
Speaker 1 (01:28:48):
Hit number three off Johnny Cooks and Billy Broughton right
now is swinging the hottest fat for Milwaukee. He has
three hits in five rips. Second baseman Red Shandings stepping
on the batter's box double the right field of the
personning scored a run and was throwing up with a
second baseman in the second take over the first base
(01:29:09):
by Johnny Cooks, god yelling gold, gold, gold to Billy Bruton,
which is a familiar chance around Milwaukee County Stadium doing
the regular season. It wasn't until this.
Speaker 3 (01:29:23):
Year when Billy was playing on about half of me.
Here's the pitch and there is a bun.
Speaker 1 (01:29:27):
Faldo slake went count on, Red Shandings and a veteran
right hander, a next National leaguer, the knuckleball artist Murray Dixon,
is warming up for Casey's single in the Yankee bullpen.
Murray Dixon, Red Shandings, lieutenant batter and switch hitter batting
(01:29:53):
leeftendant against the right hander Johnny Cooks with the run
on first base and nobody else swinging the waiter the whole.
Speaker 9 (01:29:59):
Fiel like going over at Steve Burn that he makes
a quick running catch for the outs.
Speaker 1 (01:30:04):
Changings flins out to Norm seven along the left field
fall line. Swataway brings up Plaird baseman Eddie Matthews, who
was called out on strikes in the first inning, marking
the fourth time that he had struck out in the series.
It's only four times at fast. Then in the second
he doubled the left center field scored the Braves eighth
(01:30:27):
run of the ball game. Let around first base, went
out to pitch to wed A, swinging a gumble to
the second baseman. Here's the pike. The second base ops
over the first base. It'slepking of be in time. It's
a feeler's choice, as Bruton came in hard on Tony
Koeback at second base in the relaye from Jill mcgoggo's
(01:30:47):
so that is a feeler's choice. With Bruton forced at
second base, two men are out. The batter is the
right fielder, Henry Aaron and walked in the first scored
and ground without the second base in the second takes
a strike on the outside corner spake one. Johnny Cooks
(01:31:14):
leaning over, hands on his knees as he bends from
the waist getting his sign prows hired to first base.
Matthews goes back Braves leave the Yankees eight to two
in the last half of the fourth and the only
one pitch that's outside evens the count at ball one
and stake one Baul one spake one count the Yankee
(01:31:34):
outfield deep to the left.
Speaker 3 (01:31:38):
Bower's only about twenty feet from the three fifty.
Speaker 1 (01:31:41):
Five mark in right field, so he's playing back about
three hundred and thirty five feet. Last tab of the
fourth inning, forty two year old veteran Murray Dixon continues
throwing in the Yankee bullpen. He's had a long and
(01:32:06):
a very fine career in the major leagues. Witch to
Aaron and it's love. That's the runner going. Here's a
throw he is break the second base, A high throw
by yo, be better horse. Jill mcgog with the glove
off the ground, came down on the show. Betty Matthews
trying to make the tag and up fire. John flaherty
of the American League call that one very sharply.
Speaker 3 (01:32:28):
As he was down on the play, noticed that Matthew's
feet ran in.
Speaker 1 (01:32:31):
The bag as McDougall tagged at his shoulders. And that
is the first jolen base of the series with a
runner in scoring position on second base. And two outs.
Johnny Cook stretches the pitch a swing and a hide
and one of the third base for his left. Nice play.
Here's the bake over the first base and Aaron's out
(01:32:52):
of there. Andy carried a Bills Collin to retire the side.
In the last half of the fourth no runs, one hits.
Speaker 3 (01:32:59):
No heirs.
Speaker 1 (01:33:00):
One man was left done based at the end of
the fourth thing the score is Milwaukee eighth the Yankees
too look shot see shopping Listen mister, are you fixed
for play? Can you have plenty?
Speaker 8 (01:33:15):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (01:33:16):
Are you fixed for play? You're better? Check? Please make
sure you have the war out play makes shaven mighty tone?
Speaker 3 (01:33:26):
Are you fixed for play?
Speaker 1 (01:33:28):

Speaker 3 (01:33:29):

Speaker 1 (01:33:34):

Speaker 1 (01:34:14):
Come to the battle. The top half of the fifth
penning is going to go to a pinch batter, turning
by six runs. A pinch batter for Johnny Cooks, who
is scheduler hit third as he still has the right
hander Murray Dixon cranking up in the bullpen and right
center field Handy Kerry leading off for New York number seven.
Here in the batting order, Kerry Kuback and the pitcher
(01:34:35):
his scheduler hit third touch to Kerry is swinging on.
There's a looping line drive taken by Johnny Logan, and
that's went away. Kerry, who had fuck out in the second,
now is all for six in the series as he
loops the line drive at Johnny Logan's knees for the
first out. So one touch and went away in the
fifth brings up the shortstop Tony Kuback. Tony went on
(01:34:58):
swinging in the second Lieutenant battle with a closed dance,
pulls his bat right on the end, watching the fidgety
right hander Lowberdett, who fires hive all one of those
strikes all won those strike Couns Braves lead the New
York Yankees eight to two. Yankees hopeful to tie the
(01:35:20):
series one game apiece going in the Yankee Stadium for
the third game on Saturday, and they have an uphill
battle on their hands and they trailed by six. Won
an old pitch swung on a groundvel of the first
base AND's right Tory scoops it that throws to their death.
This is in time in a two way Kubeck has
tossed Tafts Tory to lowberdet covering, and the pitcher, Johnny
(01:35:45):
Cooks has moved out of the dougout. He's being called
back by Casey. Stangled. Cooks have stepped out of the
dugouts and with about twenty five feet towards home plate
when he was called back by Casey.
Speaker 3 (01:35:58):
So it looks like we're going to get.
Speaker 1 (01:36:01):
A pinch batter for the pitcher Johnny Cooks. Johnny Cooks
worked three and one third innings and here is Jerry Lumpy,
a left tennant batter. Jerry Lumpy and Nfielder coming up
(01:36:24):
to hips for the pitcher Johnny Cooks. Lumpy appeared in
an eighty one ball game. For the Yankees in nineteen
fifty eight. Batted at two fifty four, had eight doubles,
four triples, belted three homers, and drove across thirty two runs.
A left tenant batter, Lumpy six two, one hundred and
(01:36:47):
eighty pounder is twenty five years old born in Lincoln, Missouri,
now lives in Springfield. Looks down at the third base
coach Frank Crossutti. Before he gets settled by his box,
he crowds home plate straight away stance, soaks up about
an inch and takes Bredett's first pitch for a call
strike has Low Portman on the outside corner. Golt high
(01:37:09):
spike one counts two outs, nobody on by Shanky's betting
in the fifth Nate trail eight to two. Verdet comes
down with the next pitch. Lumpy swingings missus spake two
on Jerry Spike two counts for that's taking his time.
(01:37:41):
Johnny Cook's work three and one thirty things allowed one
run on three hits. The pitch is two long and
it's ball one. Johnny Cooks in his three innings three
in the third innings didn't walk anybody in or strike
out anybody, and the fourth Yankee toucher will come on
(01:38:03):
to work in the last half of the fifth inning.
Murray Dixon Haween the piper death the one and two pitch.
Lumpy backs away from the Bullets in close and the
count is even a two and two, a record smashing
seven runs were scored by the Braves and the last
(01:38:23):
half of the first inning in World Series action, and
they lead eight to two. For that's two two pitch.
Jerry Luffy swings and falls with up into the upper
deck on the third bay side, and the con remains
at fall two and strike two. Paul two and strike two.
(01:38:47):
We have that very ideal weather for this second game
of the series. Temperature around sixty two degrees to two.
Speaker 3 (01:38:56):
Pitch swing on.
Speaker 1 (01:38:58):
He got a piece of that ball farled off. It's
still two and two on Lumpy Lumpy batting for the
pitcher Johnny.
Speaker 2 (01:39:03):
Cooks, who by the way, had one of the three
hits off Blue Bredets.
Speaker 1 (01:39:08):
Cook's single the right feel in the third ball two,
strike two. Yankees have two runs on three hits, eight runs,
eight hits. Here's a swing on a fly ball struck
back in the center field rather that's right coming back.
Speaker 2 (01:39:24):
Is Philly Bruton makes the catch over tar flust.
Speaker 3 (01:39:27):
Center and lightley tires aside.
Speaker 1 (01:39:29):
Three up and three down. The runs, no hits, no airs,
nobody left on base, and the score is the Braves
eight and the Yankees too. No way to day give you.
Speaker 6 (01:39:56):
Humph over twelve million men are flying up with those
instant ladder shaving dreams to get that clean feeling only
a shaving cream shave can give.
Speaker 1 (01:40:12):
And the instant ladder that's getting the big play these
days is gelett Fomi. It's tops for speed and convenience.
Just the press of the Gelllett foamy nozzle and there's
a creamy, snow white lather right at your fingertips. Ladder
is so rich, so full bodied, that a little goes
a long way. And the clincher, Gellett Fomi contains K
thirty four, the exclusive antiseptic that destroys harmful facial bacteria.
(01:40:36):
Now you can get gelett Fomi with cool refreshing men
fall added a three months to plyoff either regular or mentol.
Cool Fomy costs seventy nine cents. Well, we go to
the last half of the fifth inning and a forty
two year old veteran right hander Murray Dixon has moved
in from the bullpen in right center fail to become
(01:40:58):
the fourth the Yankee you're following Bob Turley, Duke Matt
and Johnny Cooks. And now it's a real sincere pleasure
here as we go to the last half of the theft.
To turn our play by play, Mike over to that
young fellow from Washington, d say, the nation's capital, who
handles all the broadcasts of the Washington Senators in the
American League, Bob Wolf, Thank you very much, Arleg Gillespie.
(01:41:21):
The Yankees are hoping that life begins at forty as
far as baseball is concerned, as a forty two year
old veteran Murray Dixon, who's a knuckleball artist, steps out
there in the mound, and the first man he'll pitch
to will be Wes Covington, who's distinguished himself this afternoon
with two singles to center, both of witch drove in runs.
Pitches have dominated the series as far as hitting is concerned,
(01:41:44):
as well as pitching on the Milwaukee side, they have
been completely aided in the hitting department. Warren Spawn yesterday
had not only the victory, but he came up with
a couple of hits, one drove in a run, and
today Lou Burdette not only as working behind his eight lead,
but also he's had a three run homer this afternoon.
On the Yankee side of things, Johnny Cooks came through
(01:42:06):
with a single. So the pitches have been taking over
the roles usually occupied by many of the other players.
And now it's Murray Dixon all set to work. Is
Wes Cummington steps in. So far in the ball game,
the Braves have come up with eight hits for their
eight runs and an eight to two margin. Can the
Yankees come back? That's a big question right now. Covington
(01:42:28):
watch is the first pitch, it's wide, it's ball one.
This Dixon will keep on through one knuckle balls most
of the time he's out there.
Speaker 3 (01:42:35):
That's his big specialty.
Speaker 1 (01:42:36):
He is a small, wiry athlete in tremendous condition, forty
two years of aldleast five to ten, just one hundred
and fifty pounds. He looks in to get the.
Speaker 3 (01:42:46):
Sin of from Yogi Berra and here's the wind up.
Speaker 1 (01:42:49):
In the next pitch, it's scorn on. There's a highead
ball stabbed by mcgougal. As he goes for right for
a first for the out, I'll fiddleful player by l
mcgougal goo go quickly.
Speaker 3 (01:42:58):
There was right like a one eye back hand stop
of the ball, whipping it over to.
Speaker 1 (01:43:02):
Scour and the get Commington and there's one out on
the bottom half of pinning number five. McDougald usually shades.
Speaker 3 (01:43:09):
Most batters off to his right, but he had to
move quickly to pounce on that one.
Speaker 1 (01:43:14):
Battle Now is the left handed swinger Frank Tory, who's
flying out and is grounded out. Incidently, it has been
a busy afternoon for infielders for both sides. There goes
a fly ball too left center field. Mickey Mantle moves
to his right for it's still moving.
Speaker 3 (01:43:27):
He's got it.
Speaker 1 (01:43:28):
So Tory is out, flying out the left center to
Mantle and now stepping up will be the catcher for
the Braves. Del Crandall, who has walked in his flight
out the left field Yankees whipped the ball around the
infield back. He goes to Dixon, who is the fourth
New York pitcher of the afternoon. Down there two away
in the bottom half the fifth the Braves holding an
(01:43:49):
eight to two lead. Nine Crandall steps in and Dixon
flips aside.
Speaker 3 (01:43:54):
The rozin bat Murray all set to works drives the
one and the pitch to Crandle.
Speaker 1 (01:44:02):
Is in the dirt, skipping away from barrel for ball one.
Different knuckleball pitches throw in different styles. Some use just
two fingers to push it off, some three, and all
of them are uniform and saying that they do not
know which way the knuckleball will break, which makes it
a very difficult role for the catcher to hold ont
of them. There's a swing and a mess on the
(01:44:24):
contains one and one. The Crandle, whose steps out for
a moment now his vacuum and waiting. He stands there
with a three quarter view of the pitcher. Dixon fairly
rapid workers darts the wind up. Here's the one in
one pitch. Now there's a swinging a mess for strike two,
ball one, strike two.
Speaker 3 (01:44:41):
Sometimes catches very wary of what the.
Speaker 1 (01:44:45):
Knuckleball will do, even warm up. The knuckleball pitches before
the ball game with a mask on. Here's the one
and two pitch.
Speaker 3 (01:44:52):
Now there's a swinging on this and.
Speaker 1 (01:44:54):
The crandles on in a strikeout to retire the side
three up and three down on the bottom half the
fifth th eight and the score at the end of
five innings is Milwaukee eight, New York two. The Gillect
Company has been asked to bring you this important public
service message. Did you know that your United Community Fund
has provided direct health and service to over seventy two
(01:45:16):
million people. You can readily see that you're a gift
does its share of making better communities for all of us.
The Fund raises money for over twenty seven thousand national, state,
and local voluntary services. These, in turn help families in trouble, hospitals,
the Agent, Armed Forces and veterans, Scouts, and many more.
Remember when you give the United Way, you give countless
(01:45:39):
health and welfare services. You help more people and save
more lives than any other way. We moved now into
the sixth inning and lead off batter for New York
is a tank power the number one spot in the
batting order for manage your case. Dangle Bauer came through
(01:46:01):
with a single in the first inning, and he eventually
came around to score one of the two Yankee runs.
Manels Homer provided the other bower and hitting safely, extended
his hitting streak to sixteenth straight World Series games, second.
Speaker 3 (01:46:14):
Time around Hank rather than to a double play.
Speaker 1 (01:46:17):
The Yankees the safternoon have been limited by Blue Birdeath
to just two singles in a home run. And now
Burdeath taking his warm up tosses prior to Bower stepping in.
You know, actually, uh, it should take a tremendous comeback
of the Yankees get back in contention this afternoon, but
a more surprising comebacks of dotted World Series history in
(01:46:38):
the past. I'll tell you about one very unusual incent.
Speaker 3 (01:46:41):
Just after we take a look at Hank, Bower was
then all sept to go. Verdebt looks in to get
the sign.
Speaker 1 (01:46:48):
Now little Breeze has stirred up when still blowing after
a left center and the first pitch to Bower is
whoa ball one? Blue Verdett, who like is fellow pitcher
one spawn has shown that the bat wielded by a
picture can be in a very important part of winning
ball games. Burdette all set to work. It's ball one
(01:47:09):
to Bauer.
Speaker 3 (01:47:09):
Here's the wind up by lou. The next pitch on
the way, it's over a.
Speaker 1 (01:47:13):
Letter high fast ball. The count now is one and one.
Speaker 3 (01:47:16):
McDougal Mickey Mantle following here in the sixth inning.
Speaker 1 (01:47:19):
And the score is Milwaukee eight and the New York Yankees.
Two three hits for New York eight for the Milwaukee Braves.
And we've seen a game which has been full of
the extra base blow this afternoon. Now Burdett all set,
gets the sign the one in one pitch coming up,
and it's an attempted part which is fouled back and
the count miles ball once right to Bauer, started to
(01:47:41):
move along the line towards first got our running start
in the bunt that it was fouled off, glanced back
to the vase of the screen and it's now ball one.
Stranke two to Hank Bower.
Speaker 3 (01:47:52):
Hank steps back in.
Speaker 1 (01:47:54):
Now the af deal has pulled around a tour left
for Bauer, and there's a pretty good breeze blowing out
to a left center which should be of help to
these right handed hitters. Bredette back off the mound, goes
to the rosen bag and now steps up towards the
rubber gets the sign Bauer in and waiting with a
one and two County. Here's the wind up and the
pitch on the way is fouled off to the right.
(01:48:15):
This time Baer takes out of a half swing. He
looked to be a bit uncertainist whether to go for
it or not, and he decided just.
Speaker 3 (01:48:22):
To meet it and eclipted it foul, so it was ball.
Speaker 1 (01:48:25):
One, strike two. The count holds there and Verdette again
goes back to the rosen bag. The shadows increasing over
the infield this afternoon. Here's the pitch and it's a
strike call of the dry corner. As Bredette sports strikeoup
Barra started a move for that held back and Charlie
(01:48:47):
Berry went up with his right arm to signified the
Strikeoup on the strike three Saul Bauer out on strike,
and that brings up mcdouggald, who got on on pera
in the first inning. In the third, Gil.
Speaker 3 (01:49:04):
Steps in now right handed battle with one away. In
the top of the sixth inning and the score eight
to two, Milwaukee leading.
Speaker 1 (01:49:10):
Here's the wind up and the pitch is wide. Graubal
back In nineteen twenty nine, the Curbs against Athletics World Series.
The A's led in the series two games to one.
In the fourth game, the Curbs took an eight to
nothing lead into the last of the seventh innings, but
the A's rallied for ten runs and won that ball
game ten to eight. So comebacks can happen and have
(01:49:32):
happened in the World Series. Here's the pitch and it
comes in low. It's bar two to kill mcgogle, bar
two to kill mcdogle.
Speaker 3 (01:49:46):
With one out on this top half of.
Speaker 1 (01:49:49):
The sixth inning, Blueberdette looks in to get the sign
from del Craddle.
Speaker 3 (01:49:56):
Now the right handers startch the wind up. Here's the
pitch and it's a Colts right.
Speaker 1 (01:50:01):
One to strike one. The official scorer has ruled that
bower who's started to move with that ball once officially
around is the try to move back to make that
a swinging strike.
Speaker 3 (01:50:15):
Mick Joggles founds one back, two and two, two and
two to Gil McDougall.
Speaker 1 (01:50:26):
Mickey Mantle on deck one away. We're on the top
of the sixth inning. Now Luber dead once again, is
back off the mount. Two and two to Gil McDougall.
Here's the wind up proper death the picture on the
way swing on. There's a pump up going into short
center back goes Shadings.
Speaker 3 (01:50:46):
He's pulling for it.
Speaker 1 (01:50:48):
And red hazard for the eye.
Speaker 3 (01:50:51):
That means Derek two away.
Speaker 1 (01:50:52):
On this top of the sixth found a bat or.
Now is Mickey Mantle, who's drawn on ten walk and
has hit a home run. Hit him a bull pen
up there in right center field. Scar remains eight two
in favor of Milwaukee. Now here's Mattel who is botting
(01:51:16):
left handed against Luberdett, stepping in big, powerful shoulders as
he gets set there in the matter's box. The airfield
is playing them deep, and now Mantle steps off at
just a moment, Nicky back in Radette gets the side
(01:51:37):
from Crandell and now a size to step back to
get a little more rowsent. Lose Er Gillespie has told
you is a fidgity pitcher, and this time Mantle steps
out on him. So there's a battle of nerves.
Speaker 3 (01:51:48):
Going on now both already here comes the pitch and
it's over for a talk.
Speaker 1 (01:51:52):
Stripe strank one to Mickey Maddle. Beautiful afternoon for baseball.
Add another capacity crowd is here witnessing this game in Milwaukee.
Spike won the counta metal. There's a high humper going
back to Shane East at second. He's up with it.
Speaker 3 (01:52:12):
The throat a tory and rattles after retire the side
cam to six.
Speaker 1 (01:52:18):
There are three up, I'm three down. I'm the score.
Speaker 3 (01:52:21):
After the tomp half of the sixth and eight Milwaukee.
Speaker 1 (01:52:25):
Eight and New York Too, the parents have had a
lot to sound off about today, me too, telling you
about Gillette's one piece TV razor. That's bargain price. That
just seventy nine cents. Seventy nine cents gets you not
only a Gellette one piece razor, but also with a

(01:53:08):
series special, it's yours for only seventy nine cents. Stop
at the neighborhood's store and get your Gillett TV razor
before they're all gone. In the bottom half of the
sixth inning, Johnny Logan, who has singled across two runs
(01:53:30):
and grounded off, steps up for the third time, the
face Murray Dixon, who came on in the fifth and
retired the Braves in order. Logan has proved to be
quite a clutch ball player all season for the Milwaukee Braves.
Has not hit for a high average, but he always
seems to pop up with that big hit whenips needed.
Speaker 3 (01:53:50):
Dixon all set to work. Here's the wind up and
the pitch on the way is inside for ball one
to Johnny Logan.
Speaker 1 (01:54:00):
And is only four months younger than the oldest player
in the series, a teammate in a slaughter.
Speaker 3 (01:54:06):
All won the count Logan. Here it comes and Johnny
watches carefully.
Speaker 1 (01:54:10):
The pitch comes in the low for Paul two. Dixon,
with the Yankee pitching stive crippled in mid August, was
purchased as a reinforcement from Kansas City. There's the wind up.
Here's the next pitch to Logan, and there it goes,
a high pop up to the left side of the infield.
(01:54:31):
Carrie's shielding his eyes from the sun waiting for it,
and he's got it. Saul Logan drops up to the
third baseman, Andy Carrey, and that brings up Lou Burdett.
Speaker 3 (01:54:41):
Now Rue comes up very quickly for Doug god he
came faring up. He gets the fight in the yard
next to ball and draws a fine hand.
Speaker 1 (01:54:48):
Here in Milwaukee, loue Verdett, who has been the Yankee
tamer in the Fans series, is taming them this afternoon
with a three hre and was also chipped in with
the a three run homer to personally drive in more
runs today than he is yielded. Here is the first
pitch coming up to Lou. He fouls it back for
(01:55:09):
strike one.
Speaker 3 (01:55:13):
Maury Dixon has.
Speaker 1 (01:55:14):
Been throwing nut knuckler for many years. He pitched against
the Yankees fifteen years ago in the nineteen forty three series.
Not a single member of that Yankee club is still playing.
There's a high foul going forward. The seats arras give
him chase, and it is backed in about five or
six rows, so all that makes it strike two to
Lou Burnett, who has picked up the mask for Yogi
(01:55:38):
Behan hands it to Yogis He comes back after his
goodle chase. There's one away when the brontom half of
the sixth inning and the Braves lead eight to two,
having started out the afternoon with a big seven run
first inning, a world Series record. After the Yankees had
scored in the top of the first here's the pitch,
Berntson's a hard ground ball to carry, just inside the line.
Speaker 3 (01:56:00):
He put a first his law, but take him vice
Gowren just off the ground and bred at us out.
Speaker 1 (01:56:06):
Saw that means there are two away. And here's a
fellow who is making the headlines. And this Darius Bill Broughton,
who won yesterday's ball game with his tenthening paysient and
this afternoon stepped up. In the first inning with the
Yankees in front one nothing in Bruton, the leadoff batter
sent a homer up into the seats beyond that right
(01:56:29):
field fence to tie the ballgame, and that opened up
the gates is the Braves continued, Here's the pitch and it's.
Speaker 3 (01:56:36):
A card strike to Bruton.
Speaker 1 (01:56:38):
After that, Bruton battled again in the first inning, sent
a liner which Quebec snared for the out, and in
the fourth Bruton again singles, this time to write, here's
the pitch and it comes in wide and the count
now is one on one to Bruton with two away.
In the bottom half of the sixth inning, Murray Dixon
back off the mouth from them. What looks around at
(01:56:58):
as defensive alignment. The outfielders playing almost straight away for
Bruton man or just a bit to right center. The
pitch swung on.
Speaker 3 (01:57:06):
There's a line root he duping again, what a series.
Speaker 1 (01:57:11):
He's having a single to center field for Bill Bruton,
who is really having a time here in this World series.
And that brings up the old Beckman Red Shandeast, who
was double the grounded out and lined up. That's Hitt
(01:57:31):
number nine for the Milwaukee Raves and Bruton's third in
this game.
Speaker 3 (01:57:36):
He's on first the two away.
Speaker 1 (01:57:38):
Shaney's the batterer. There's a throw to first base by
ad dition and Bruton gets back to the die Folks
set off a climber.
Speaker 3 (01:57:44):
Every time that Bruton gets on base, urging in the
goal takes a good sized lead.
Speaker 1 (01:57:49):
There's a pitch for a tal strike to Shandy's because
you went up on the fact, just a bit for
it of Bruton roof moving on to second, but put
on the brakes.
Speaker 3 (01:57:57):
There and it's Frank one to Shane East.
Speaker 1 (01:58:02):
Shane dans choked far up in the body's running left
handed against Murray Dixon. Now Bruton again edges off first base.
Dixon crawls over and Bruton gets back to the bag
to always worrisome to the pitcher and catcher and infields,
and a man like Bruton is on base. Here's the pitch.
It comes in law and Shane East against deeps out
(01:58:25):
of about his box. The count miles one on one,
two outs, Bruton on first. The Braves scored seven runs
in the first inning. The wife bought a one run
Yankee lead, and Milwaukee added another run in the second.
Yankees added one more on the fourth, all staff from
the pitcher. It comes at thin side, count miles two balls,
strike one to Shane East. You can hear that a
(01:58:49):
home throughout the crowd. When Bruton got on base, and
every time that Dixon is set to pitch, the same
chat of go, go go starts swelling from the capacity crowd.
Here in mill rooting again, starts to move off Dixon
with the scratching the pause, a.
Speaker 3 (01:59:08):
Rook toward first and another thrown a first base and
Bruton gets by.
Speaker 1 (01:59:12):
That's one of the great advantages of having a good
quick base runner. He keeps that picture on edge, and
also he keeps the pictures.
Speaker 3 (01:59:18):
Throwing over there toward first another thrown a first.
Speaker 1 (01:59:21):
Base and Dixon is pitching quite a ball game over
the scowrun right now as Bruton takes that big red
two balls right one of the shand east. The pitch
comes in wrong and a scar three and one, and
so on with the worry about Bruton over there.
Speaker 3 (01:59:39):
The count Niles.
Speaker 1 (01:59:40):
Minded to three and one the red send east with
two outs in it's bottom half of the sixth inning,
rooting again, Edge is off three and one. The coup
the hitch is a cold strike. This time Barrel popped
his arm as he fluffed the throw to the first
base and Bruton got back to the back three and two.
And this time Broughton will be moving as it's three
(02:00:03):
and two with two outs in this bottom half of
six innings.
Speaker 3 (02:00:07):
So the crap has been shotting.
Speaker 1 (02:00:09):
For Bruton to go, we'll see a woman on the
next pitch. Shane Eeds digs up the plate off set
once again. There we go.
Speaker 3 (02:00:18):
Now there's a high five hof rightly, power is fack.
Speaker 1 (02:00:22):
He's got it to retire the side. In the bottom
half of the sixth hunting total Shaw no runs, one
hid now ears and one left on the store. At
the end of six Innings, Milwaukee eighth a York two.

first inning. Late in the first inning, defensively when else
and Howard jammed his kneath going up against the fence
and attempt bring him Matt.
Speaker 3 (02:02:01):
Home run hit by Loup Verdett over the wall.
Speaker 1 (02:02:04):
And now Cebrian is all set to step in in
the seven. New York Yankees are trailing eight to two
and a bus fire the Braves of nine hits in
the New York Yankees but three. Stebron is a left
handed batter in there now for Debt. Looks in to
get the sign, and we're all set to go first
(02:02:26):
a little rosin or for Debt. He likes to keep
those fingers nice and dry. Now he's set Sebran and waiting.
Here's the line up and the pitch is over.
Speaker 3 (02:02:37):
For a fall strike.
Speaker 1 (02:02:39):
Sabran is twenty five years old. He's a tall fellows
six three two hundred and five pounds for dead again,
back to the rosen bag. Tugs at his cap. Now
looks in. He's all set with a strike one cop.
Here's the pitch and there he goes a high fly
ball to left field, Puffington moves in about three or
four feet. He's waiting and he has it for a
(02:03:00):
routine out in the top half of the seventh twenty.
The batter is Yogi Berra. The price has been are
forced by Burdette to hit that ball into the ground
once for double play in the first thing, and in
the fourth.
Speaker 3 (02:03:13):
He ground it out again.
Speaker 1 (02:03:15):
Bredette has the faculty with that sinker pitch of this
and that screwball and keeping the ball along to keep
the New Yorkers hitting that ball into the dirt, and
so far has been most effective in doing so. Now
Bera and in waiting with one out on the top
half of the seventh, there's a line up by Burdette.
Speaker 3 (02:03:32):
The pitch is high for a ball.
Speaker 1 (02:03:35):
Charlie Berry is tolling with the plate. Here in the
second game, dram and Flarerity and Barley on the bases
and you Month on the leftiel line and Jukowski in
the right to your live. Bredette flips aside the rosin bag,
starts to wind up the pitch to Yogi Berra, misses
the outside corner and it's.
Speaker 3 (02:03:52):
Now ball too.
Speaker 1 (02:03:57):
Bredetta shown fine control the satin and the only walk
to the issue was an intentional walk that came in
the first inning. Let me now, you get out of
that frame with only one run scoring, despite the fact
that the sacks were loaded with nobody out. Here's the
next pitch to Barrew and it's on the inside corner
for a call strike, So it's now Barn two, strike one.
Speaker 3 (02:04:19):
The Yogi barre one out.
Speaker 1 (02:04:20):
We're in the seventh inning and on deck gets Bill Scouring.
The last Yankee hit was Maddeles homer. Leading off the
fourth inning, Barra sends.
Speaker 3 (02:04:29):
A high five ball which was going into the seats
outside the rights to your line, and the Yankee is
a warming.
Speaker 1 (02:04:37):
Up still another pitcher, Tom Stridavan. Yogi Barra steps back
in now with the two and two count, one away.
We're on the top half of the seventh Inna Burdette.
Speaker 3 (02:04:50):
On the mound, score eight to two.
Speaker 1 (02:04:52):
The Milwaukee Braves.
Speaker 3 (02:04:53):
Are leading the pitch.
Speaker 1 (02:04:55):
There's a high flop on the left near the line.
Comington moving towards right.
Speaker 3 (02:05:01):
Can't get it.
Speaker 1 (02:05:02):
The hall lands just fit outside the line, about two
or three feet outside of the line. Covington crossed the
line by about a foot of saw and trying to
make a backhand catch the ball. I couldn't quite do it,
and so Yogi Berra, who was moving along the first
base line, comes back, gets the bat and arrows paused
outside the bat of his box as he maintains a
(02:05:24):
life up there at the plate with the cap holding it.
Two and two, one out and seventh for get again
to the rosen bag. Now Lou looks in to get
the sign from Crannell. The outfielder is playing a ra
pull around toward.
Speaker 3 (02:05:39):
Right, but not too far the pitch.
Speaker 1 (02:05:41):
There goes a five on the right center field.
Speaker 3 (02:05:43):
Aaron is moving to us right going forward. A feeler
take it.
Speaker 1 (02:05:50):
Bill Brook, who was moving to his left tank eron
to us right in the center field of Bruton, made
the hall. They in about fifteen or twenty feet from
the fronts out there and right center around number two.
It was a fine catch by Phil Broughton, who was
already made the hop fensive headlines this afternoon with three hits.
(02:06:12):
Don't field is that time we're moving toward each other
as it appeared that barrel might have hit the alley,
but it was up high enough for the catch to
be made. Here's goron two away in the seventh and
it's a card strike. Scarron is flat at center and
he struck out. They're two away in the seventh inning,
(02:06:35):
and Burdette is rolling along up to this point. The
pitch swung on. It's a high hupper over the pitch's head.
Logan feels an air second force the first three out.
Speaker 3 (02:06:47):
Fire retard ever a seventh.
Speaker 1 (02:06:50):
And the score after the top half of the seventh
running Milwaukee eight, New York two. High. Harm Or Harvey
g one of my great hitters in baseball, the third
leading hit on the American League has just come by.
Good to see your Harvey. Good to be here, Bob Harvey.
That was some first getting, wasn't it. Those braves really descended?
(02:07:12):
Are the Yankee pitchers? What happened there? Well?
Speaker 9 (02:07:15):
I believe that Bob Turley the control got off a
little bit, Bob, but he couldn't get.
Speaker 1 (02:07:19):
The curve ball over, couldn't get a change up over,
and he had it coming with a fastball. And well,
as you can see the basis roll over the ballpark,
if they certainly were of that, let me ask you
a question, Harvey. One of the series moves back to
Yankee Stadium, and you can think that the new York
ball Park will be a page to the Yankees.
Speaker 9 (02:07:36):
Well, I believe it'll be an aid to the Yankees, Bob,
because they used to the ballpark. They used to the shadows,
and that the right field fence over there is just
what they're looking for.
Speaker 1 (02:07:46):
Say, Harvey, have you heard about Gelette World Series that home?
Who hasn't after yesterday's game.
Speaker 3 (02:07:51):
Well, Hobby, here's one for you, Thanks, Bob.
Speaker 1 (02:07:54):
I've always been a Gellette man and I'll use this
on my travels today. But just seventy nine cents you
can have a modern Jelette one piece razer. This money
saving offer includes a dispenser of Gellett blue blades and
a handy prable case. The World Series special is going fast.
Get yours down for only seventy nine cents while they last.
Harvey Keane, thanks to stop him by, Thank you, bab In.
(02:08:20):
Now is Ed Matthews in the Botom half of this
seven twenty. Matthews is one for three so far. He
doubled on the second Murray Dixon on the mound, and
the pitch to Matthews swing on is a hard foul.
(02:08:41):
Outside of first, there's a ground foul for a strike
one the attendance remains the same forty six thousand, three
hundred and sixty seven. So everybody who can get in
here is maneuvered in, and it's jammed in. They're singing
our ball game in which the Braves have been dominating.
Speaker 3 (02:09:02):
On the man and half the plate. Eight to two
is the score.
Speaker 1 (02:09:05):
The pitch to Matthews comes in wide.
Speaker 3 (02:09:08):
On the count now is one and one.
Speaker 1 (02:09:11):
Matthews, Aaron and Cummington, So Dixon will have his work
cut out for him. On the bottom half of the
seventh finning, one and one Matthews waiting. Here's the wind up.
Now the pitch on knuckler, which is filed back, and
it's now bar one, strike two, bar ones, strike two
(02:09:33):
to Matthews. The heads have been very well distributed throughout
the Braves batting over of this afternoon. Here's the one
and two pitch, and there's another fire and knuckleball which
is back behind home plate.
Speaker 3 (02:09:49):
One of the important.
Speaker 1 (02:09:50):
Attributes of throwing the knuckleball is the purple length of
the fingernails. And if you take a look if the
boys who practiced the knoher, you'll see if they keep
the fingernails just a bit longer than usual to protect
that friction from pushing the ball off the top of
their fingertips. Here's the one and two pitch.
Speaker 3 (02:10:09):
Coming up, and it comes in wide for a ball.
Speaker 1 (02:10:13):
It's off two and two to Matthews. I recall a
one ball game in which a knuckleball picture disappeared between innings.
They finally got him up out of the locker room.
What he was doing down there with a fingernail finally
was whippling down one of the fingernails, which was just
a bit too long.
Speaker 3 (02:10:28):
Here's the next pitch, and there's a high top up.
Speaker 1 (02:10:32):
Along the first baseline. Bill Scourrun near the bag is
waiting for it.
Speaker 3 (02:10:36):
He's got it, and Matthews is out.
Speaker 1 (02:10:39):
So all there's one away in the bottom of the
seventh and Hank Aaron, who has walked and grabbed at twice,
is coming up now to see what he can do
against the forty two year old knuckleball ace Murray Dixon.
Dixon had a season record of ten wins and the
(02:10:59):
seven defeet and.
Speaker 3 (02:11:00):
An earned run average of three point seven eight.
Speaker 1 (02:11:04):
He was back in the World Series with the Cardinals
in forty three and forty six. Here's the pitch to
Aaron and it comes in low for the ball bar
one Aaron on deck is Wes Commington, the big swerge
for the Milwaukee Braves. Came in the first two innings.
Here's the next pitch and.
Speaker 3 (02:11:24):
It comes to law on the count. Now is ball
two to Hank Aaron.
Speaker 1 (02:11:29):
The at field fine Seaburn playing just about a foot
of saw from the cinder path.
Speaker 3 (02:11:33):
Out there in deep reft and madel is playing a
very deep center.
Speaker 1 (02:11:37):
There's still a good breeze which is blowing out there.
Tore it left center field as Dixon set once again
gets the sign to and all the count to erin
the pitch swung on us all a big high hopper
going out to carry. He's to wait for it to
come down and he makes nerve raw. As Aaron girls.
Speaker 3 (02:11:54):
Racing across birth base, Hank Potterbot.
Speaker 1 (02:11:57):
Went another dirt so hard that it went off from
the air by forty feet and by the time it
came down and Carry's.
Speaker 3 (02:12:03):
Met Aaron was a cross first without a thraw and
he's on there with a single.
Speaker 1 (02:12:15):
Hank Aaron extends his consecutive series break to nine games.
Now down the matter is Wes Comington, No. One that
Aaron could race down the line as he did, carry
Saw was just futile to even attempt the thraw. Aaron
leads off first, coming to and swings as a line
right to short. White Power comes in. He can't get it.
(02:12:35):
It's in front of him. From Lay said, Aaron is
on the way to third.
Speaker 3 (02:12:38):
There's a thraw.
Speaker 1 (02:12:39):
It's to wait. It skips off Terry, but he goes
back to pick it up, and Saw Aaron can't move
from the third Hall and Wes Comington Hall is a
first race with his third head of the afternoon down.
The Braves are swinging those bats today. They're putting on
a tremendous display. Ye headach and now we'll have Felix
(02:13:03):
Mantilla running for Collington and first and coming gets a
big hand as it leaves the log.
Speaker 3 (02:13:08):
Guess yeah, yeah, Sarl.
Speaker 1 (02:13:20):
Mantilla None takes over as a pinch runner. Aaron is
on third, man Tilla is on first, and the matter
is Frank Tory with one out not on first and third,
and the Braves threatening to add more in the run column.
The first pitcher comes in high, so it's ball one
(02:13:42):
to uh Toy. While we may anticipate Andy.
Speaker 3 (02:13:48):
Popcall going back in the ball game in the left field.
Speaker 1 (02:13:51):
We'll see what nine hundred Fred Haney does when the
Braves go out defensively. Tory the matter ball on the
coup and the next pitch comes in high.
Speaker 3 (02:14:01):
Four ball two.
Speaker 1 (02:14:09):
Out of the bullpen for New York. Zach Monrose now
warming up with men on first and third, there's one
away Tory the battery two and old account stretching the
balls by Dixon. The pitch, Tory swings in the lake
of right top ride going to the weight fel corner.
Aaron comes in the store, Mantilla goes into third, and
(02:14:32):
Tory with a sharp drive to ride us on first base.
As the Braves score again, Andy Pop goes cunning across
the outfield, going out to the fultpend to warm up.
Now for a defensive duty Tory with a third.
Speaker 3 (02:14:47):
Hitting the roll off the.
Speaker 1 (02:14:49):
Yankee knuckleball pitcher Murray Dixon has driven Aaron across the
late from the third and moved Mantilla from first to third.
Speaker 3 (02:14:57):
And the Braves Noll lead nine to two.
Speaker 1 (02:15:00):
In this bottom half of the seventh, with the situation
remaining the same but on first and third, one out down,
the matter is Dak Crandle who is warped fly to
left and struck out. Dixon's pitch swing off as a
fly hole.
Speaker 3 (02:15:12):
His heat center battle is back waiting makes the catch.
Speaker 1 (02:15:15):
Is the tag up on my tea, He'll score easily
as the throw goes to second travel.
Speaker 3 (02:15:20):
Will a sacrifice fly.
Speaker 1 (02:15:23):
Drives in the second run off the seventh thirty and
that means that Tory is held at first the two
away as Johnny Logan, who is one, four, three and
two RMB eyes steps in Milwaukee, is now leading ten
(02:15:49):
to two with two runs across. In the seventh, Logan
the bat at two outs, Toy is on first. The
pitch comes along for ball and an exchange of baseballs
as Charlie Berry at the plate obliges all these braves.
(02:16:14):
I've been swinging that bat to sapedown with twelve hits
and chain of runs at a commanding eight run lead,
Logan the batter ball on the count. The pitch is
farled off to the right, going keeping the seats on.
The count now is one and one to Logan.
Speaker 3 (02:16:35):
Tory is on first.
Speaker 1 (02:16:37):
That was Frank's first hit, coming on his fourth time off.
All set for the next pitch, one on on the
count and Logan swings and missus here to be just
a bit fooled on a pitch which was tine on
him on the contain nows wall one's right two, ball
(02:17:03):
one's right two. Logan steps back in Dixon with the
scratch and the balls. The pitch swung on. There's a
pop up which is drifting just a bit fall outside
of first and Bill Scourn is there to make the
catch and fiul territory retire the side. In the bottom
half of the seventh and eight. The total show the
two runs. There were three hits, no errors, and one
(02:17:26):
is left to score. At the end of seven and
eights Milwaukee ten, New York two, no shock, shock.
Speaker 3 (02:17:38):
Shock.
Speaker 1 (02:17:41):
The only way to.
Speaker 8 (02:17:42):
Get a deep safe, same direct.
Speaker 1 (02:17:53):
Let's pause thirty seconds for a station identification.
Speaker 10 (02:17:59):
This is w WGFM, Schenectady.
Speaker 1 (02:18:02):
What a difference.
Speaker 10 (02:18:02):
The real Visy makes Saratoga vishy extra dry flavor, living
combination and because it's alkaline, Saratoga Vishi helps assure a
clearer head in the morning is actually good for you.
The yellow yellow Yullo Sarahtoga Vihi the real Visi.
Speaker 11 (02:18:18):
In the world of sports, we all look forward to
the World Series, and in the automotive world, everyone looks
to Plymouth, the star of the forward look see Plymouth
that Anglert's motor sales ten to sixteen State Street, Schenectady.
Speaker 1 (02:18:32):
In the eighthting, Andy Faftall takes over and left field
coming up now for the New York Yankees. A pinch here,
Pina Slaughter. Pina Slaughter will buy four carry so Ena Slaughter.
(02:18:58):
It was also forty two in a left handed batner
steps in a face Luberdet and he takes high for
ball one.
Speaker 2 (02:19:07):
We're in the fountain of the eighth inning, and Luberdett.
Speaker 1 (02:19:11):
Has retired twelve in a row since Mickey Mantle hit
a home run. That was the last Yankee head to
lead off the fourth inning in a slaughter waiting. Here's
the pitch and it's over for a called stripe. The
count is one and one to Slaughter, who is bounty
for carry us is the oldest player in the series. However,
(02:19:35):
he is not the oldest to play in a World Series.
John P. Quinn was more than forty five years old
when he pitched for the A's against the Cardinals in
nineteen thirty. There is a pitch for a ball. It's
ball two strike one of Old Country. Slaughter has just
completed his twenty first major league season since he joined
(02:19:56):
the famous Gas House Gang Cardinals of nineteen thirty eight,
and this past year he hit three h four, which
is exactly his lifetime Major League Gabage Park two strike one.
Here's the pitch, and it's a cont strike Contnas two and.
Speaker 3 (02:20:13):
Two to a Slaughter in this eighth inning.
Speaker 1 (02:20:17):
On deck is Tony Kubeck. And then we may see
another of Casey Stengele's reserves up off the bench for
a deck back off the mild. He's using the erozon
rather liberally this afternoon. Now flips the bag to the side,
tows the rubber, gets the side from craddle. It's two
and two to Slayer. Here's the pitch, and there's a
(02:20:39):
humper going out to the second baseman Cheney's to find play.
There's a put a personally on bread and a hold
quickly to his left and carment a bet and executed
it in excellent style to get Slaughter. And there's one
away in this top of the eighth inning. Here now
term Stritivan has come out to warm up and Zach
(02:21:05):
Monroe is also throwing as Tony Kubak steps in takes
ball one. Kubak is struck out. He's grounded out, went
away in the eighth, and Burdett has been rolling along
since the fourth inning. It comes to pitch and it's
(02:21:27):
a breaking pitch over for a card. Strike counts one
in one. You may recalled it yesterday one spawn finished
up his game with a flourish, getting progressively better as
the game progressed. There's a pitch over front called strike.
It's now ball one, stripe two. Well, Burdette is pitching
(02:21:49):
the same sort of a game this afternoon. His shakiest
hitting was the first he got out of a jam
with the bases loaded and nobody out with only one
run coming across. And since that time he's yielded but
a single in the third and a homer in the fourth,
and since that time has been not hit for the basis.
There's a grounder going out to toy first basement takes it,
(02:22:11):
goes to the bag.
Speaker 3 (02:22:12):
And Kubak is our number two.
Speaker 1 (02:22:15):
He's all there, two away in the top of the eighth,
and the Yankees now send up another pinchitter, throom Berry
Well bat or Dixon. Throne Berry is a power hitter,
(02:22:37):
a left handed batterer, and he comes in as a
pinchitter here in the eighth. So more Thronberry is up there.
Here's Bridett's pitch, and there's a swinger on s Fosst
like one. Thorl Berry will take that big cut, and
he's one of those players that if he gets wood
on him, he can sail it a long way. He
hit two twenty seven this past year, and one hundred
(02:22:58):
and fifty at bats, duted, seven homers and nineteen RBIs
Sprak won the count. Here it comes, and the pitch
comes in high. The count now is one and one
to Thronberry. The Yankees have been making a liberal use
of their bench, hoping to do something against Burdette, but
lou just keeps rolling along, and so far Burdette has
(02:23:20):
scriven in more runs today than he is yielded. With
a big three run homer climaxon a fremendous first pinning
for the Braves in which they scored seven runs, Thronberry
up there with two outs, nobody on in this eighth.
In eight Burdette again back to the rosenbag. We're all
(02:23:43):
set one on one the count. Here's the pitch and
a swear of this all one s Brake two. Burdette
with this momentum coming up with that pitch of the
plate usually comes right down off the pitching mound. After
executing this follow through.
Speaker 3 (02:24:00):
Saw the count nos one.
Speaker 1 (02:24:02):
And two to Thrownberry, left tended batter, the wind up
and the pitch there's a high file. It's back out
of play on the count holds at one and two
to Thrownberry. How's a new baseball goes out to the mound.
Speaker 3 (02:24:16):
Ten to two.
Speaker 1 (02:24:17):
The Milwaukee Braves lead the New York Yankees. As we
come down the home stretch of this game, r death
back off the mound. Now he smooths the dirt in
front of the pitching rubber. What can I get the side?
Here's the pitch and it.
Speaker 3 (02:24:38):
Says where Bilberry goes.
Speaker 8 (02:24:40):
Down swinging.
Speaker 1 (02:24:43):
Early eighth three offrom Fweet dolls and the score after
the top half of the eighth inning remains Milwaukee ten,
New York two. While some of these veterans seem to
keep rolling along, for example, Red Chagings, he just seems
to have good year after goodyear. Got a big hit today,
(02:25:05):
you know, getting the Redhead from the Giants last year
was one of the best prads the Braves ever made.
Heels like that don't come along every day, but here's
one you can get in on. If you act fast.
For a limited time, you can buy a Gellette one
piece TV razor set for only seventy nine cents. Just
listen to what you get. A modern precision engineered Gellette

shaving by of the year, clean refreshing shades, dan right
comfortable shaves are fast and easy with this up to
the minute Geelette one piece razor double edges two give

up and they're going fast, So hustle over to the
nearest door and get the Gellette TV razor set, the razor,
dispenser of Gellette blue blades, handy travel case A dollar
value only. He's seventy nine cents.
Speaker 8 (02:26:02):
After now, But there you are.
Speaker 1 (02:26:14):
A Yankees have two more changes. Bobby Richardson goes in
at third base, fine defensive player and on the mound.
It's Zach Monroe, and this is the bottom half of
the eighth in ain't coming up. Monroe is the fifth
(02:26:36):
pitcher that the Yankees have used something to stop the
Braves today, and here's no bread dawn coming up.
Speaker 3 (02:26:46):
Hello, it's not a big afternoon.
Speaker 1 (02:26:49):
He's excelled in all the privates and has healed but
one walk. That was the intentional walk to Mickey Meddle
on the first Jenny. So Lou Burdette now steps in.
He's had a three run holder and has grounded out twice.
(02:27:13):
Zach Monroe, a right handed delivers and the first pitch
is a called strike one to verdet. Monroe's a six footer,
he's two hundred pounds and is twenty seven years old.
Here it comes and Burdette swings and files one back
for strike two. Lou Burdette, who's retired the last fifteen
(02:27:38):
New York Yankees in a row, is up there now
with a two strike count and the ten to two
lead in this bottom half of the eighth inning, Monroe
and the mouth starts the wind up, and the pitch
to Burdett is swing on and missed for strike three.
Speaker 3 (02:27:56):
So Zaq Monroe starts off.
Speaker 1 (02:28:01):
Well, they strike off and his first World Series appearance.
Here's a fellow who's done a big job for the
Milwaukee Braves. Yesterday, had the game winning hit. Today, went
off with a homer which tied the ballgame, and the
Milwaukee Braves went on to score seven on the first day.
Bill Bruton, who was three hits today, first pitch? Is
(02:28:24):
it contstright? Ero Gillespie was remarking right after the ball
game yesterday, that wasn't it something that Bruton, who saw
in last year's series from a hospital bed, proved to
be a man who got the big blow yesterday. There's
a pitch coming in law count miles one and one.
(02:28:46):
Bruton in the leadoff spot as homered today and he
has two singles in his last two times up three
for four. Monroe all set to work. Here's the wind
up and the right hander delivers a file back behind
home plate. So it's ball one, strike two. Are the
Yankees right now, trailing by a ten to two margin,
(02:29:12):
are thinking now? I'm sure about what will happen when
they get back home. The Yankees have been two down
and two previous series nineteen twenty two against the Giants,
Yanks lost the first second game. Second game was the tie,
and the Yanks lost three more in a row. Here's
(02:29:33):
the pitch coming in wide from all It's two and two.
In nineteen fifty six, the Dodgers won the first two games,
but the Yankees came back to take the series in
seven games, fall three three and two. Now three and
(02:29:59):
two to Bruton with one out in this bottom half
of the eighth ay, Now Monroe all set to work.
Here's the wind up and the three and two pitch.
His waw ball four and Broughton draws a lot, So
we should hear that crowd climber once again, as Bruton
(02:30:19):
usually arouses the bunks with his lead off there at
first and his great speed, which has been slightly diminished
by his knee operation, but it seems to be coming back,
although he can't lift the injured leg quite as high
up as he used to in running. Here's shade east
and the pitch is wide for the ball. There's one
(02:30:42):
out and one of Zach Monroe in the lad made
a great impression at the Yankees instructional school before training
camp opened last spring. He was called up from the
Miners on June fifteenth and spotted effectively ever since there's
a thrown a first face and Bruton gets back to
the bay. Among other pitches, Monroe throws a palm ball
(02:31:06):
for the Yankees this year he won four lost two.
A look toward the runner, the pitch to Shande East
is over for a call. Stripe on the continent is
one and one. The red with one on and one
on the bottom half of the eighth inning. Yankees have
had three hits against Burdad and Milwaukee twelve against an
(02:31:30):
assortment of New York pitchers. Bruton again leads he's moving
Shaanding since a long clop all the right near the line.
Speaker 5 (02:31:38):
Bower is going for it.
Speaker 1 (02:31:39):
He can't there territory.
Speaker 3 (02:31:42):
It's skip flop Bower's shoulder up over the whole.
Speaker 1 (02:31:45):
Box seat rail. He get into the seats for a
ground roll double pink. Bower came in attempted a sliding
shoe green catch with a ball which landed just inside
the right field line. These fans jot out close to
the line at that point, and the ball skipplf Fower
into the seats for a ground rule double. Bruton, who
(02:32:06):
was moving on the play, is haunted at third and
uh Well. After that ground rule double, there is a
very strong probability that Bruton could have come all the way.
All that brings up at Matthews Braves threatening to score
(02:32:28):
again with not on third and second and one out,
and the pitch to Matthews is inside for a ball.
Matthews has one for this afternoon. Here's the next pitch
(02:32:51):
to Matthews and it comes in wide for ball two.
All of the Braves in the strunning lamp have hit
safety this afternoon except John crandall, but he came through
with a sacrifice fly. It's all. It's been a keen
effort this afternoon for Milwaukee. One two to Matthews with
men on third and second and one out. Monroe al
(02:33:13):
right hand looks and I get the sign from Barrow.
Here's the wind up and the pitch and there it goes.
Speaker 3 (02:33:19):
A lot of backing up, perful plays.
Speaker 1 (02:33:21):
Head truck is coming in a star Chaine East is
on the way.
Speaker 5 (02:33:24):
There's a form of Planet's late and take scars two.
Speaker 3 (02:33:28):
Matthews is on first place on the crowd once again is.
Speaker 1 (02:33:31):
Up wine to speak, Cherry.
Speaker 10 (02:33:41):
We interrupt to advise you that the WRGB television transmitter
has been having trouble and the television station expects to
resume operations and beyond the air momentarily.
Speaker 1 (02:33:52):
As Matthews just drives in two more root the chine east.
He's on first base. The batterers air, here's the pitch
and there it goes away set the right play off
the hall. Matthews riding second way a third power from
sup of the ball. He goes into second base. Matthews
goes in the third stanning up with air and is
on first and the frames continue. This power laid in
(02:34:15):
the time Andy pop Galls coming up. He went in
(02:34:38):
the defensive lead Emily and Toppy any so, Andy pop
Galls now stepping up and the Braves, if not on first,
on third again two runs over and listening. They lead
throughout the two math going right into batter Swings has
(02:35:00):
a long line of left and scurving fowl that lands
about fifteen feet outside the left field line, hit up
against the uh little railing there invited back on the
field if go one for three yesterday, Yankee bullpen continues
to stay busy. Tom's treadavant warming up out there. Matthews
(02:35:25):
on third, Aaron on first, the pitch is wide. I'm
the count loop to Andy pafcall. One in one, there's
just one out, all set to going on rolling them
(02:35:45):
mount deliverers, half gall swings has a fly on a
teeth center battle is there, winning makes the catch. Matthew
tags he'll score easily as Mickey throws the second base
a sacrificed life or hay pafcall. Milwaukee has now scored
three at this spotom of the eighth. They lead thirteen
(02:36:12):
to two over New York, and Frank Tory is up
the plate. His single in the seventh also drove in
a run. Think Karon is on first down there two away,
Tory the back. Here's the pitch down, there's a found
going back out of play.
Speaker 3 (02:36:39):
Strank one.
Speaker 1 (02:36:41):
Too, Frank Torry in the foulback Aaron on first. There
are two outs. We're in the bottom half of the
eighth inning. As the Braves continue tomorrow. The New York
Yankees this afternoon, bron Roe all set to work, looks
and they get the sign from Yogi Berra on first base.
Aaron takes his leave. The pitch to Tory comes in law,
(02:37:05):
I'm the count now is one and one. While this
tremendous first of runs this afternoon certainly I've given the
Milwaukee fans a lot to crawl about here in their
own stadium. One and one, and there he goes a
file off to the left, going toward the seats. Ball
one's strike two. The Yankees have announced that Don Larson
(02:37:30):
will pitch when they open up again in New York.
Charley uh was around just for a short spell this afternoon,
and since then there has been a procession of Yankee pitches.
It's ball one's break two to toy Aaron on first.
A look toward the runner and the pitch, and there's
(02:37:51):
a file going off toward the New York Yankee dugout,
which is on the third day side. So all the
count holds if ball one, strike two to Tory on
first base, erin and the Braves have had big ginning
after beginning the sefternoon. The biggest was their first when
(02:38:14):
they scored seven runs to fault out in front. Here's
the one and two pitch, and there's a ground ball.
McDougall hops to us right from something that makes the
throttle first for the IF to retire the side.
Speaker 3 (02:38:26):
While seven nine fighter in the bottom half.
Speaker 1 (02:38:28):
Of the eighth inning, and the totals in this frame
show for the Milwaukee Braves three runs, three hits, long errors,
and one left the scar at the end of eight
Milwaukee thirteen New York two d raiser, Get.
Speaker 10 (02:39:00):
Then what a bye.
Speaker 1 (02:39:03):
Which you're with in short, suppy, so get.
Speaker 8 (02:39:08):
Her raise, go get one fast.
Speaker 1 (02:39:17):
In instead of the fuck. The Yankees are faced with
a tremendous problem here as they come up into the
night thing, which seems to be almost a prohibitive one.
How to get back in the scoring column.
Speaker 10 (02:39:41):
Against We'd like to announce for just a moment that
the difficulty at the WRGB television transmitter has been corrected
and Channel six WRGB is now back on the air.
Speaker 1 (02:39:52):
Now back to the ball game by the Yankees against
the Giants back on October second of nineteen thirty six.
So the Pray Graves are shy of that number, but
they have rung up thirteen runs today on fifteen hits.
Bauer is one for three as he faces Burdette in
this ninth inning. Hank has one of the three hits
(02:40:18):
off lou and the first pitch comes in high for
a ball. Well. The Yankees started out this afternoon as
if this were to be their day. A single an
Era and a war vote to the Sacks, but that
proved to be the only Yankee throat up to this point.
A run scored in that frame, and then Mantles Hommer
accounted for the other ball wonder Bauer leading her off
(02:40:43):
the night. And the next pitch is inside ball two.
To recap all of the scoring for the Braves and
all of their heating is a monumental project which I'm
sure the Milwaukee fans would savor and will be a
talking about for some time to come. The pitch is law,
(02:41:05):
and it's ball free to Power. And now Burdett is
in danger of snapping his freak at fifteen in a row,
and in danger of also yielding his first walk today,
although he has given up one, which was an intentional
walk to Mantle in the first day. Here's the three
and all pitch.
Speaker 3 (02:41:26):
Paul Hall.
Speaker 1 (02:41:27):
It a call strike as Power started to go to
first base, and as Charlie Berry's hand went off in
Power took it on a look and moved back in
about his box. So Hank almost coaxed that one, but
not quite. It's ball free strike one. Now Burdett strikes
the wind up here it comes and there is a
(02:41:47):
high file which is going back over our heads on.
The count now is three and two two. Bower Hank
now is outside the bata's box for the moment as
Charlie Berry is giving the play a bit of a
dusty Now Bayer moves back in. Burdette back off the
(02:42:12):
mind for the moment besides to go to the rosen bag.
Count now is three and two. Here's the wind up
by Lou the pitch there there's a long five on
a teap left field in the line path. Call is
going back. It is a horm run. Pank Bower setting
a hole run up over the left field fence, is
(02:42:33):
running around the bases and the Yankees had another run
snapping the bird at streak at fifteen.
Speaker 2 (02:42:45):
In a row as Bower gets his second.
Speaker 1 (02:42:49):
Hit of the afternoon, a home on the left and
that brings up gill mcgogall. Well. Bauer also had a
two run homer yesterday in the fifth running, so it's
the second homer of the series. Gill mcgoggall takes ball one.
(02:43:12):
Storer is now Milwaukee thirteen and the Yankees three. Incidentally,
the Yankees as far as the scoring is concerned, Yesterday
at ball there runs on homers. There is a drive
in a left off Bill McDougall's bat that's in there
for a BaseT as McDougall's singles in front of Mandy Papgall.
(02:43:34):
And now the Yankees have had two hits in a row.
One Pizarro is starting to throw up there in the
Milwaukee boat beat as Mickey Mantle's steps in. All of
the runs from New York yesterday were on homers, and
two of their three this afternoon have been on homer's.
(02:43:55):
Mantle and Bauer mcdougle on first with a single, the left,
theres nobody out, and we're in the ninth He swears
by Mattle he really gave out one away fast strike one.
(02:44:18):
The Yankees have left only one runner so far on base.
Only the Dodgers in Larson's perfect game left fewer. They
had nobody out, strike won to Meddle, the pitch a
swear mess and Rickey again took that big cut, which
I'll hope this roar from the fans here in Milwaukee,
(02:44:38):
as he obviously was going for the fences. Sawt strike
two to Meddle. Mcdogle on first, nobody out in the
ninth inning, and it's a thirteen to three Bowl game,
with the Braves holding a big ten run lead. Mattle
he ain't left handed against Brudette and in waiting two
strikes to count as a look taught first the pitch,
(02:45:00):
There goes a fly ball in a deep left center
field pop Doll is going. Vickis in the sender past
galving back. He jumps, can't get out. The whole run
over the fensive left center is Mickey Ndel. It's a
whole run scoring Jial Mick Joel in front of him.
(02:45:23):
All the Yankees, showing their hole run mite are putting
on a ninth inning chapter here in which they have
now stored three runs last thirteen to five, nine six
two in this game. Viral one Boto na is Norm
(02:45:43):
Severn Lubert at the nobody out in the ninth thning
starts the wind up on the pitch. Scorn Rum has
a line drive to short right. Hearn comes in, can't
get it. I it's en there for a baseheat. I
(02:46:04):
came rushing in that time and reached far over.
Speaker 3 (02:46:08):
It just was about a half a punt in front
of him.
Speaker 1 (02:46:10):
It lasted up off as glove, but it was in
there for a head for Seaburn, and the matter now
is Yo Givera, as New York has come up with
four hits in a row. The lead off the night,
(02:46:33):
Yogy Vera up there, Durham seban On first. The score
of the ballgame Milwaukee thirteen, the New York Yankees five,
and there's nobody out. Seaburn on with a single. Vera
takes the CONTs right. Lu Burdett, who was rolling along
here and apparently had this one all locked up, still
(02:46:55):
has a most convincing lead. However, all of a sudden,
the Yankees have come roaming back on. Don McMahon, the
ace relief artist fastballer of the Braves is now warming
up as the Yankees have come up with a homer,
a single, a two run homer, another single. Bearra swings
and missus a strike two. The Yankees noted for their
(02:47:19):
home run scrape this afternoon. I have had three homers,
two by Mettle, one by Bower, and in the first
inning for the Braves, Ruten and Burdett had homers. All
said to go two stripes to Barra. Here's the pitch
on There is a file coming back out of play,
and the count roles at strike two. Eurogibera outside about
(02:47:45):
his box now steps in with the scarp. Thirteen to two.
Going into the ninth, the Yankees have scored three runs
to make it thirteen to five. Bara sends a flab
on a short right shade East is going back aroon
in Heroon falls fort and the right Felder houses for
(02:48:06):
the out.
Speaker 8 (02:48:12):
Sorry.
Speaker 1 (02:48:12):
That brings up Bill Scarron, who is all for three,
and Scarron comes up with one out now coming after
the first four men hit safely and Norm Seberan at
first base. The outfield is deep Horas Gouron, who had
(02:48:35):
a home run for New York in yesterday's game. Bredette ready,
here's the pitch and it's over in the inside corner
for a fall strike strike one to Bill Scaron. He
is flying a center struck out and grounded out. Burdett
back to the rosenbag. We're in the ninth th inning
(02:48:56):
of play here in Milwaukee. It's thirteen to five. The
braves Loo look toward the runner the pitch scaring swings as.
Speaker 3 (02:49:03):
A farm bark going the left field half goes back.
Speaker 1 (02:49:06):
Pedalings get us in the path. He how's it there?
For the out? There are two way had Bobby Richardson.
He's out the plates. Bobby Richardson is not coming up
nine first and two outs. Right handed batter steps in
(02:49:33):
the here's the pitch, it's a bunt in front of
a plate. Here with my Crandlemer for the first to
cry out.
Speaker 8 (02:49:46):
Here for play by the catcher.
Speaker 1 (02:49:47):
And there's the ball day hand us knife fitting. The
Yankees had three runs, boy hits, no errors, had one left.
I'm the final score in the ballgame. Milwaukee thirteen runs,
fifteen hits, one era. New York five runs, seven hits,
(02:50:12):
no errors. In just a moment, will review the highlights
of today's game for you.
Speaker 12 (02:50:18):
Hello, I'm John Bennett, and I've just had the first
permanent ever created for women over twenty five. It's lotion PROM.
You and I know that after twenty five our heir
begins to show age. Doesn't have the life, the springiness,
the bounce it once had.
Speaker 8 (02:50:35):
I noticed it.
Speaker 1 (02:50:36):
That's why I was so delighted with PROM. The new permanent.
Speaker 12 (02:50:39):
Especially created for us for women over twenty five, Prime
has a brand new waving motion that neutralizes naturally. Prime
uses no chemical neutralizer. That's why you get a new
kind of curl. A curl that swirls at the crime,
curls at the end. It's the liveliest bringing as long
(02:51:00):
as lasting.
Speaker 2 (02:51:01):
Care you've ever known.
Speaker 1 (02:51:03):
Makes you a hell of years younger. Do as I do.
Speaker 12 (02:51:08):
Use lotion prom the new permanent especially created for women
over twenty five.
Speaker 1 (02:51:23):
Well, it was too much first inning for Casey Stangles
New York Yankees, as the Braves exploded against three Yankee pitchers.
Bob Turley Duke Mossel replaced him after Turley had managed
only one out, and then Johnny Cooks finally came in
to put out the fire as Milwaukee sunned up ten
hitters and came up with seven runs on five basits,
including a leadoff home run by Billy Bruton, who now
(02:51:44):
in this nineteen fifty eight World Series has four hits
and six times at bet. The crowning blow was a
three run home run by the pitcher himself, Low Burdette,
who turns back to New York Yankees for the fourth
consecutive time. His record against New York last year with
three wins and no defeats. As he beat the Yankee
He's for two in the second game, one to nothing
in the fifth game, and five to nothing in the
(02:52:04):
seventh game and this afternoon's final score Milwaukee thirteen and
the Yankees five. So now we move on to Yankee
Stadium where the New York Yankees will have it run
of the line as these Milwaukee Braves were taken the
first two games of the series going there now and
they have to win two out of the remaining five,
while the New York Yankees must win four of the
(02:52:25):
remaining fives to win this fifty eight series. Casey Stingle
has named right hander Don Larsen. Manager Fred Haney of
the Milwaukee Braves has not named his starter. He said
his started will be known tomorrow around one thirty after
the workout at Yankee Stadium in New York. It'll come
probably for one of the three Bob Rush, Colonel Willie
or the left hander One Pizzarro. So far, the shining
(02:52:48):
star in this series is the center fielder Billy Bruton, who,
as I mentioned, has had four base hits and six
times at bet. He won yesterday's ball game with a
base hit in the last half of the tenth winning
beating the Yankees four to three, and came through with
three hits and four trips this afternoon. So that's set
the final score Milwaukee thirteen and the New York Yankees five.
