Speaker 1 (00:00):
CAVL Cadum Sports is on the air from Yankee Stadium

(00:46):
in New York City, so that presents the third game
of the World Series between the Milwaukee Babs and the
New York Yankees. Hang Agan fans, necessary less, welcoming you
to this podcast for the Glut Safety Razor Company. Jelena
is on the year all year round with sports events
of national interest such as the World's Invocational Match Game,
Bowling Championships, the Blue Gray Football Game, the Rose Bowl Game,

(01:10):
the Kentucky Derby, the All Star Baseball Game, and the
Friday Night Fights. This is Jellette's way of showing its
appreciation for your support. This broadcast is authorized in the
broadcasting rights granted by the Commissioner of Baseball solely for
the entertainment of our listening audience, and any publication, rebroadcast,
or other use of the descriptions and accounts of this

(01:31):
game without the express consent of the Commissioner is prohibited
and by the White Commissioner. Fort Frick was considering attending
today's game until his position ruled against it, but he
is resting comfortably following the appendectomy he underwent a week
ago Tuesday. Charles Seeger, Secretary Treasurer of Baseball, will continue
his pensioning assignments for the Commissioner along with Frank Slogan.

(01:55):
The scene of action this afternoon, historic Yankee Stadium, overlooking
the Harlem River in the barrel of the Bronx. Many
of baseball's all time greats have performed here in this
gigantic triple deck ballpark. And it's finally called the House
that Roosevelt in reference to the immortal Bambino George Herman
bay Brue. So this is the setting for the third

(02:17):
game the nineteen fifty eight World Series, and the New
York Yankees, according to some people, have their backs against
the wall as the Milwaukee Braves came on strong to
win the first two games back at Milwaukee County Stadium.
My scores the four to three and tenantings and the
second ball game thirteen to five. It was Warren's final
the opener, it was luberd At in the second ball game,

(02:39):
and this afternoon it's going to be Don Larson for
the Yankees, Bob Rush for the Braves. So this is
the big game of the series. This is the one
that the Yankees must win, for no team has ever
lost the first three games of a World Series and
come back to win. So one could say easily say
without reservation that the Blue Chips are on the line

(02:59):
for the Yankees this Saturday afternoon. This third game is
a muss Casey Stangle's choice for the clutch game. Don
Larson twenty nine year old right hander who hailed from
Michigan City, Indiana, now resides in San Diego, California. He's
a big guy, six foot four, two hundred and twenty pounds,
and of course, entered Baseball's Hall of Fame in nineteen
fifty six with a perfect no hitter against the Brooklyn

(03:22):
Dodgers in the fifth game of the fifty six World
Series on October the eighth. Now, that was the year
that Brooklyn jumped off to a two to nothing lead,
but the Yankees came rolling back to win that series
in seven games. Manager frot Haney on the third base
side is gunning for a clean sweep, and he's going
to go today with a veteran right hander, Bob Rush
in preference, who outstanding youngsters like Carl Willey and the

(03:44):
left hander Won Pizarro. Bob Rush not a big man
at six foot five two hundred and five pounds, is
thirty two years old, and he's in the biggest moment
of his baseball career. He was born in Battle Creek, Michigan,
now lives in Mesa, Arizona, but a two years old
moved out of a Creak and spent the most of his
young life in a town that is well known amongst
the college football towns across that great nation, South Bend, Indiana,

(04:08):
the home of the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. This
year with the Braves, his first year after being obtained
from the Chicago Cubs in a trade last winner, he
won ten ball games and lost six. He made twenty
start for manager Fret Haney, completed five ball games and
hurled two shutouts. He won some very key games in
the last six weeks of the fifty eight National League season.

(04:30):
Bob Rush spent ten years with the Chicago Cubs and
during that time he had one hundred and ten victories
against one hundred and forty losses. So we have something
unusual about these two big right handers. Both Bob Brush
and Don Larson have had the dubious distinction of leading
their leagues in most defeats. Bob Rush in nineteen fifty
lost twenty games to the Cubs. Don Larson in nineteen

(04:51):
fifty four lost twenty one ball games for Baltimore. And
Hank Bauer, the great veteran white fielder, summed it up
yesterday when he was quoted as saying, we'd better win
one beautiful day. The temperature at sixty one degrees, and
here are the batting orders for the third game of
the series for the Braids will have a two to
nuphing edge. It'll be the red hot Philly Bruton in

(05:11):
center field, Retch Saandings at second base, Teddy Matthews the
third henry erin right field. Aaron goes into action with
a nine game hitting streak and World Series play. Wes
Covington and left Frank Tory at first, Joe'll Cramble is catching,
Johnny Logan at short, and Bob Rush is the pitcher

(05:35):
for the New York Yankees are back home for the
next three games of the fifty eight World Series. Hank
Bower right field. Hank brings into action this afternoon a
marvelous sixteen game hitting streak, a record that stands alone
in the Fall Classic. Tony Kolbeck will be at short
and you can see that manager Casey Stangle has juggled
his line up. Kubeck at short batting second, Mickey Mantle

(05:59):
in center field, the Yogi barrel catching. Norm Seaburn starting
in left field and placed at Austin Howard who banged
his knee against the center field fence on Littleberd. That's
home run in the second game of the series. So
at Seaburn and left Jerry Luffy at third base replacing
Andy Kerry, Bill Scarland at first, Gill McDougald at second base,

(06:24):
and Don Larson is the pitcher. As I mentioned, it's
a very, very beautiful day here in New York. The
weather man yesterday gave us quite a scare, as he
had predicted showers last night and throughout this morning. However,
when we awakened about seven o'clock this morning, the sun
was shining very brightly and it has continued shining. The

(06:45):
temperature is at sixty four degrees himmunity at fifty percent.
The wind is blowing across the outfield from left to right,
but inside this triple deck stadium the wind doesn't seem
to have too much effect on a long fly ball.
It is blowing at ten two fifteen miles an hour.
The umpires this afternoon. Tom Gorman of the National League

(07:06):
will be calling the balls and strikes. John Flaherty of
the American League at first base, Al Barlak of the
National League at second base, and Charlie Berry of the
American League at third base. Bill Jakowski of the National
League will be down the third base line and Frank
Eumont of the American League down the right field line.

(07:26):
We have the forty second Infantry Division band out here
under the direction of Patrick J. Austen, and we're going
to have the flag raising ceremonies here at Yankee Stadium.
A marine color Garnell raised the flag and the band
will play as Miss Lucy Monroe sings our national anthem,
and here is Miss Monroe and from Yankee Stadium, Ladies

(07:48):
and gentlemen are national anthem. Can you the propar at
the time they eating toose the tripe and plant time

(08:16):
the town side? Where can.

Speaker 1 (08:44):

Speaker 2 (08:52):

Speaker 3 (08:55):
Congrad about.

Speaker 4 (09:00):
Hey, let's pause ten seconds for station identification.

Speaker 1 (09:31):
If you want real thishy, get the yellow way, yellow lay,
yellow way, yellow man. Get the vhy with a bright
yellow label.

Speaker 5 (09:39):
Sarahntoga, Thish wgy.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
S connected the well, gave you the butting orders, and
now we're going to move to our lap. Then to
the gentleman from Washington, DC, whom we've enjoyed working with
so far. In this a nineteen fifty eight classic, the
voice of the Senators, Babu, thank you very much. Jarl Gillespie, Hi, everybody,
A beautiful afternoon for baseball. And this is a key
game coming up, Carson, the World Series. Every game counts.

(10:04):
But the folks here in New York, the New York Yankees,
know that this is the game that they must win.
Where's the braves? Want to keep rolling along? Get Only
twice in all series history has one team lost the
first two games and then recovered to take the series,
and many of the present Yankee players remember both of
these series since they figured in both. In nineteen fifty five,

(10:26):
the Yankees won the first two games, but the Brooklyn
Dodgers won four of the next five games, the Dodgers
taking the series in seven games altogether. On the very
next year, in nineteen fifty six, the Yankees dropped the
first two games to the Dodgers, were able to graft
four of the next five to take that series four
to three. And incidentally, there are some startling similarities in

(10:46):
the first two Yankee losses in that comeback series of
nineteen fifty six and their two defeats to the Braves
this season. They're going the dark Yankees off the field.
In that first game defeat of nineteen fifty six, the
strater and loser was Whitey fourd, the same starter who
pitched in a losing cause in this fifty eight opener.

(11:09):
And in the second game, the Dodgers scored thirteen runs,
the same as to the Braves against the Yankees in
this series second game, the Dodges won that game thirteen
to eight, compared to the braves thirteen to five victory
on Thursday. So that's the story as we get set
to see what will happen in this third game, and
leading off for the Milwaukee Braves will be Bill Bruton,

(11:30):
who has already made headlines here in this series. Bill
Bruton will lead off in His batting average is six
sixty seven. He is having a tremendous time here in
this Big Classic. Instantly, the highest average ever recorded for
a full World series was the six to twenty five
of Fabe Ruth. In the four games of nineteen twenty eight,

(11:52):
the Bay had ten hits and sixteen fifths, including three
doubles and three homers, and the three homers came in
one game. But Bruton goes in with the six sixty seven.
I have an average three singles and a homer and
six official trips, and the Braves as a team have
been hitting extremely well. They're batting is three twenty nine
and the team record for a series is three sixteen,
so you can see them. They're red hot in the series. Well,

(12:13):
we're all set to go. The Yankees whipped the ball
around the infield now and here is Philip Bruton stepping
in the center fielder Paul the Milwaukee Rays pall the
Yankees defensively. Larson and Barrow the battery. Lumpy's a third
Quebec at short, McDougal at second, Scaron at first, Sea
burns and left, metal, center and bower and right. It's
a beautiful day. There's no hint of a breeze at

(12:34):
the moment. Sun is shining down as Larson stretched the
wind up. And here's the first pitch. It's a strip
fall on the inside corunner. A fast ball. It came in.
Let her hide of Bruton force strike one on Decus
sendings filed by Matthews, and this game is on the way.
Little breeze, just a very slight breeze stirs toward Wright.
Here's the wind up the next pitch, and up front

(12:55):
along the first base line, Parah feels the froze for
the out give up play by Yoki Parah dot ball
roll about fifteen feet a saw from home plate and
about three or four feet inside the line as Parah
had a quickly rush out there and just barely snuffed
the throw off in time to get routin for the

(13:16):
pot out to start out the ball game. Here now
is Red Chantings, who was hitting two twenty nine, a
switch hitter, binding left handed of course, against Darn Larson,
one away in the top of the first. Here's the
wind up by Larson in the pitch. It's a call strike.
Eddie Matthews is on deck in the number three spot.

(13:40):
Hank Aaron's binding clean up. Here it comes and there's
a call strike on the inside corner cosstrike two sod
strike two to Red Chantings with one out on the
top of the first larson out there in the mountain
looks going to get the sign from jo Ghibera. Here

(14:04):
comes the pitch and it comes in law. So far
this afternoon you may have heard me referred to a
larson's wind up. Well darn on the some of the pitches,
has brought his glove up over his shoulders there with
the ball actually taking a wind up, although more abbreviated
than some on a few of these other pitches. Here
he's just brought it up built high. Here comes the pitch.

(14:25):
It's the curve inside. So here we have noted that
a larson has changed his pitching style of somewhat. As
you know, he made the no wind up delivery ring
out coast to coast with headlines, and so far this
afternoon larson has done a little bit of each. On
some pitches he brings the ball up just about chest high,
and others he brings it up shoulder high or higher.

(14:45):
It's not two and two to shing Dings with one
out on the top of the first here's the wind
up over his head. Here comes the pitch, and there's
a hard hit ball to the first basement scour and
he's uping that wins to the bag for the hour
Salar two and the top of the first inning, and
Eddie Matthews, who's hitting two fifty in the series, comes up.

(15:11):
Eddie contributed a couple of fine feeling plays in the
first game of the series, then delivered a double in
a single in the second game, the single driving home
two runs. So Matthews is in there with two outs
in the top of the first inning and no score.
Here in Yankee Stadium, Larson Wine's high. Here's the pitch,
a change up curve which is filed outside of first
over to John Fitzpatrick, the first base coach. Billy Herman

(15:34):
coaching at third for the Milwaukee Braves. In this top
of the first inning, Bruton Funded went out from the
catcher to first Shadings, then grab it off to the
first baseman scouring. I'm the Eddie Matthews up there with
one stripe con Matthew's a left handed batter and in
waiting the opp dealers pull around toward right. It's a
very good shot for a left handed batter along that

(15:56):
right field line. Here in New York. Here's the pitch
by Larson and it's a strike car from the outside
counter and it's naw, strike two to Matthews down the
right field line to the powerfall. It's two hundred and
ninety six feet. The wall breaks away very sharply there,
but it's a low bowery at just about four feet
high and over the right center where Hank Bower is playing.

(16:17):
It's three forty four at the wall. Here's the pitch
coming in wide. The count now's ball want strike two.
Bauer is playing just about on the edge of the
cinder path, just a few feet away from that three
hundred and forty four foot sign out their right field
breaking away even further the Yankees bullpen, and then you
go far back into deep right center, and of course

(16:38):
the deep center it's four hundred and sixty one feet.
Here's the pitch, A sweet on this Matthews as out
of a strike God saw. The side retired and the
top of the first inning with her runs all hits.
Tarware is the nomine left and at the end of
the top half of the first inning, it's Milwaukee nothing
in the New York Yankees coming up. The word here

(17:01):
in New York, like in Milwaukee and all over the country,
is that the Gellette one piece TV razor is the
biggest shaving bargain of the year that figures but just
seventy nine cents. You get a Gelett TV Raizer, a
dispenser of world famous Gillett Blue blades, and a modern
styrene travel case. Risk rough brushing shaves, clean, really clean

The supply is limited and Gelett TV razors are going fast.

(17:43):
Get your Gelette TV Raiser, dispenser of Gellett Blue blades
and practical travel case now just seventy nine cents. And
now for the New York Yankees. Bob rush Well, his
first World Series start is out there on the mound
on Hank Bauer, who's swatting four forty four in the

(18:07):
World Series, will be stepping in the lead off for
the Yankees, followed by Quebec and by Mickey Maddele. Hank Bauer,
who's proved to be a mister Pressure himself when it
comes to World Series. Will lead off Hank contributed a
single and a homer in the first game of the
fifty eight series, and he knocked in two runs. He's

(18:30):
hit safely in sixteen consecutive World Series game for a record.
Rush winds. Here's the pitch and it's a strip com
a fast fall on the outside corner. In the second
game of the series, power out of another homer and
a single, scored twice while driving in one run. Here's
the wind up by Rush. The big right hand is

(18:51):
pitch on the way as a change up and a
miss is the outside corner. I'm the count now is
one on one to Bower leading off in New York
and this due word game for the New York Yankees,
Rush gets the sign of brattle. Here's the line up
and the pitch on the way A curve suck the
deep chart logan finder US right, us up the there's a.

Speaker 2 (19:13):
Pro Power is safe. Power swung in a curve centered.

Speaker 1 (19:30):
A deep short logan, moved fart of us right, came
up with the ball, made a slightly off balanced crawl,
and the Power beat it out on a close play
I didn't field hit. That brings up Tony Kuback. I'm
fall power. He now is hit safely in seventeenth Great
World Series games and he is let off of the
hit and all three games. Here now is Tony Kubak

(19:56):
looking for his first World Series hit of this classic bower.
On first, there's nobody out and feel a double play
depth for the Raids. There's a look toward the runner.
The pitch is a fastball up the knees for a
call strike. Tony went hitless in his first seven times

(20:16):
at bat, spanning the first two games of the series.
Donkrandel has gone out to the mile now and red
Shande East has come over along with Frandle and Rush
Logan came in for a few words of this pitcher
as they get set here defensively, and now they're going
back to their positions. Logan back to short change East
at second and Tony Kubak, who is a left tended batter,

(20:41):
is in there in the battles box. The ot dealer's
playing him just slightly toward right, not very much, and
now the out dealer is moving a bit in the
other direction. Here's the pitch and there's a file off
to the left. It's going out of play and that
makes it strike too to Kubec Bank Bauer on first
with the leadoff single for the New York Yankees. We're
on the bottom half of the first lovely out and
there's no score in this third game of the World Series.

(21:04):
Beautiful day for baseball. You couldn't ask for final weather.
Kubeck in and waiting with a two strike camp. There's
a stretch in the pause. By rush, look toward the runner.
Here's the pitch, and a fastball comes in wide the
count miles ball one, strike two. Big Bob rush on them.
The six five, two hundred pounder thirty two years old,

(21:25):
all set to work. Stretch from the pause, by rush
the pitch to Kuebec. There's a foul on the play.
Bauer was moving and Kuebeck fouled it off to the left.
Saw that holds now at ball one and strike two.
Mickey Mantle is on deck the airfield. On the first

(21:47):
few pitches to Kuebec was playing them a little toward right,
but now they have shifted and in center Bruton is
just shaded slightly to left center. Rush turns and loves
won a first base to toy, but Power had not
let off the bag. There's another throw the first base

(22:08):
and again Bowers back. Now Kubeck outside the battles box,
steps back in pumps the bat on home Flate looks
out to the naw. There's the scratch in the pause
by the right hander. Here's the pitch and it's a
swing a mess the front of first base. I am

(22:29):
say out at first power try a good back is
picked off? What a throw by? John Craddle asked cuebag
one time swinging Bower was off the bag trying to

(22:51):
get back, and Cradle made a low throat of toy
just about a foot off the ground and toy with
a quick swhite gut power or a don't. And that
brings up Mantle hitting three thirty three in the World
Series ball one. The Braves defense has just been superb
in their alertness. And that's twice in the series that

(23:12):
Power has been picked off base. Here's the pitch to
Maddle and it comes in law and the Countenile's ball two.
It took a perfect draw by Krandell. It came in
law and Tore just swooped around and made the tag.

(23:34):
John Party called it at the base. Here's the next
pitch to Mickey, A sway on miss ball, two strank one.
That's Milwaukee's third double play of the series. The Yanks,
I've not pulled one us yet. While two strank one

(23:56):
to Maddle. Here's the lineup and the pitch. It is
side and low and it goes right by Dull Cradle
and it's now three and one. Thoughts three and one
to Mattle, bonding left handed against Rush. There are two
outs to the bottom half of the first night. Rush

(24:17):
delivers and it's a strike Calm in the outside corner. Saw.
It's three and two and they're sending powerl it off
with an Enfield head the short stop and the Venice
kuebec one down on a strike out Bauer, who is
off the bag trying to get back to first and
Cradle picked them off. Sol there two away. There's nobody
on on the count to Mattle is three and two's

(24:40):
Mantle steps out of the Batle's box. Anna Mantle is
back in. Mickey has eleven World Series homers. Second only
debate Ruth. Here's a three and two pitch. He's sweet
of this man. A lad on a strikeout throw a
Shire of the side turtles on the bottom half of

(25:03):

Off for the Milwaukee Braves will be Hank Aaron, who's
hitting three seventy five in the World Series. Hank Aaron
coming up. He'll be filed by Wes Covington. I'm Frank Tarry.
Aaron steps in. I like Hank power. He too is

(26:43):
a hitting streak going in World Series competition. He's hit
safely in nine straight Series games. He puts there's a
pop up foul. Pharah goes after it, Sat a lumpy
Neither can get it and it's over. Rolling into the
Milwaukee Braves dugout Strike one to Hank Aaron be followed
by Wes Comington. Both are three seventy five hitters in

(27:05):
the World Series play this year. Darn Larson on the mound,
big six four, two hundred and twenty seven pounder. Both
pitches are tall pitches. Larson looks in to get the
sign now from Barratt, the wind up and the pitch on.
There's a file back to the screen and the count
and aisle. Strike two to Aaron. The outfield is playing

(27:28):
Aaron deep on there deep in all fields, as power
is playing just on the edge of the cinder path
out there in deep right center. They respect Aaron's power
those quick wrists miner on which he gets that bat around.
The little breeze is now strut up, blowing out towards center.
The count to Aaron. All in two Larson, all set

(27:49):
to work, right hander into the wind up. Here it
comes the pitch, and there's a high hopper which is
just bolence on a third. As Lumpy goes over, it
takes it about three or four feet outside the bag,
keeps the ball and plays who returns it to Lars
with the mound darn steps back. He goes to the
ross and Guy now looks around at his defense at
the moment tugs at his cop on toes. The rubber
gets the sign from Yogi Barrock. Aaron waiting with a

(28:12):
two stry cob. Larson all set to work. Here's the lineup,
and here comes the pitch, and it says swing a mess.
As Aaron goes hunting as right gob dow below us,
the crowd joins it applause, and certainly no applause is
more deserved than that for Roy Kapanella, who has arrived

(28:35):
here in wheelchair this afternoon to see the ball game
in person. What a great courageous competitor, and what a
big moment to see Roy back here at a series
game in person. Here's Wes Cummington stepping in, hitting three
seventy five in the series. He swings sends a foul
which is over just to the side of the New

(28:57):
York Yankee dog gob Wes Comington of the plate. In
the first game of the series, West made a great
thrill in the first inning he cut down you Gibat
trying to race from first to third in a single.
And in the second game he cracked out three singles,
scored two runs, and he knocked in two more. Husky
left tended batter stands with feet close together, crouches over

(29:20):
the plate. Larson stretched the wind up. Here's the pitch,
and there's a swing and a miss. As Comington appeared
to be a fit pool that time, and a breaking pitch.
He if held back. Then he decided to go for
it and took out of a half swing on the
contin strike two to Wes Comington. There's one out. Aaron
is out on a strike out. Larson has two strikeouts

(29:43):
so far. On out a sign from Barap. Here's the
next pitch, and there is a pop up behind third.
Lumpy is going back pulling for it. He's got it
just in the fringe of the outfield grass. With two out,
Tory will be the next hitter for the Milwaukee Braves.

(30:05):
Frank appeared as a pinch hitter in the fifty eight
series opener, but Tory was a starter. In the second
game against Bob Turley, a right hander got one hit
that drove in a run. Toy left tended. Batter in
a waiting and a curve ball comes in low ball
ball one. There are two outs on the top of
the second there's no score and so far just one hit.

(30:26):
That was an infield hit by Hank Bauer to lead
off with the Yankees in the first inning, Ball one,
the count to Tory. Now Larson All said, there's the
wind up and the pitch on the way is low.
Another breaking pitch the count mas ball two to Tory,
two out. In the second inning, Campanella's being helped to

(30:53):
a chair. Here a seat at Yankee Stadium gets a
fine round of applause. All set for the two and
ozer pitch. It swung on as a file back on
a play. This is a wonderful ovation. Let's listen to
it for Roychapanella and that was a standing ovation. All

(31:30):
set to go on the odds wall. Two strike one
to Toy with two outs in the second. Here's the pitch,
and there's a lighter in the center field from base
hit for tore Battle comes in a field of ball on.
Tori has the first hit off John Larson, a sharp
single back through the middle of the center field. Coming

(31:50):
up now will be Tell Crandell, who series average is
two eighty six, and Crandell steps in with two outs,
Toy on first. Each side has a hit in this game.
Besides doing a fine job receiving the pitches of Spawn
and Burdett. In the first two games, Crandall drove in
a run on each of these two contests. So Delf

(32:12):
Crandell now steps in with Tory on first and two
away Larson scratching the pause. Here comes the pitch and
there is a high file which is going over toward
the seats and it will be out of play. It's
up for the second deck and then falls down below
the inevitable scramble for it. I'll strike one to Dela Crandell.

(32:39):
A little risin now for Don Larson, the weather man
certainly has been good for the series this year. All
set to work. Here comes the pitch and it's inside,
moving Crandell back slightly from the flate. The continole is
one on one. The outfield the fort Crandle is set
up with Seaburn playing a fairly deepla. Maddele has moved

(33:01):
in just a bit in the center, but Bauer continues
to play a deep right center field stretch. From the
pause by Larsen, here's the pitch and it's inside for
a ball. Randall steps back out at the moment. Count
lyows ball two and strike one to Dulk Crandell, who's
twenty eight years old. He's been a member of five
National League All Star teams, had a fine season at

(33:27):
the two to seventy two average this past year. Two
and one the count and now alive for the first base,
and Tory, who had not straight from the bag, is
back standing. There count remains ball two, strike one to
dulk Crandle. Another look toward first. Here's the pitch and
there's a ball chopped file off to the right saw
that evens up the count loud two and two to Crandle.

(33:51):
This is a must game for New York. No team
which has lost the first three games of a World
series has ever a bounced back to win the series
in a seven game series. That is, in fact, no
team which has been down three games to none has
ever been able to come back and win his money
as two games in the best of seven classes. So
if pan statistics have any bearing, this certainly is a

(34:12):
do or die game for New York. All set for
the pitch too, and to the count he's swinging as
it was a curve fall which poked away and flannel
as Ad in the strikeout to retire the side. In
this top of the second, Lawrons one hit, Lar errors
and one man is left. The score after the top
half of the second Milwaukee nothing, New York. Nothing. We've

(34:35):
seen some great pitching in the series. You know. All
of Bluebirdett's wins of a New York have been seven hitters,
four and all. He's a tough man under pressure. Of course,
that's no news to Milwaukee fans. Lou has been coming
through for them all year. But here's something that's big,
big news to everyone. Now you can get a Gillette
one piece TV racer for just seventy nine cents. And

(34:57):
that's not all your seventy nine cents buys. You also
get a dispenser of Gellette blue blades with the sharpest
edges ever hon and a neat compact travel case. Don't
miss this wonderful bargain. Get in on real shaving comfort,
clean refreshing shades. Let's stay with you far longer. The
Gellett TV razor is made all in one piece, gives
your hinstant blade changing and cleaning, double edges. Save your

(35:20):
money on blades. This is a regular one dollar value,
but as a World Series special, it's yours for only
seventy nine cents. Stop in a neighborhood store and get
your Gelett TV razor before they are all gone. Yogi
Berra comes up leading off the bottom half of the

(35:42):
second inning. There's no score in this third game of
the World Series. Vera's hitting two fifty in the series
classic this year. A Husky left tened batter noted for
his ability to hit pitches whether they're inches away from
the plate or not, and the Husky Yankee catcher and
man of other positions as well. Now steps in the
face right handed Bob Rush. We're all set to go.

(36:03):
Here's the lineup now by Rush, and the first pitch
to Barra is swung on. There's a pop up along
the left field line. Logan is going back and he
goes in a file territory to make the catch. Johnny
Logan taking Yogi Berra's pop up about thirty or forty
feet behind third on outside the line for out number one.

(36:27):
That brings up norm Seburn, a left handed batter hitting
three thirty three in the World Series. Casey Stengel said
before the ball game that he had a tough job
making up his mind when he had the lineup, because
he has benched his leading hitter this year in Elston Howard.
Here's the pitch to Seburn and it's Colts right, But

(36:48):
he said, how can I leave out my regular left
fielder at Severn, who with a three hundred average, and
he too is a left handed batter, whereas Howard bat's right.
Here's the pitch and it comes in wide. The count
miles one and one. So Casey said, I think I'll
go with Seburn. I certainly can't take out Metal and
Bauer has been doing a tremendous job. So that was

(37:11):
the outfield, but it gives the Yankees added bench strain.
Here's the one in one pitch a curve and there's
a flopball. The short left coming is coming in. He's
got it. How there are two outs now on the
bottom of the second as Cherry Lumpy, here's the next

(37:32):
hitter for the New York Yankees. Lumpy is essentially a
line drive hitter. He occasionally rides one a long way.
He's twenty five years old. He too, is a left
handed batter. Saw Lumpy looking for a world Cherry hit
us up there, and the first pitch is inside Ruball's

(37:54):
ball one the Lumpy. Two outs. There's nobody on and
there's no score. And it's the bottom of the second
inn here in New York. No breeze whatsoever. Blue skies
overhead rush starts the wind up. Here comes the pitch
and there's a hard hit ball of the third basement.
My views, he takes the hop Proster first Farley out
Tore came slightly off the bag that time, also made

(38:15):
the tag on Lumpy going by on the side. Is
retired with no runs, no hits. Now eras and Lobody
left in the score at the end of two innings. Milwaukee,
nothing New, York nothing Rrian. Get here, George and.

Speaker 6 (38:37):
Be raizor yes, seventy nine cents then water by then
we'll tell you it's in charge, Suppie, So Hurryan, get her, George.

Speaker 1 (38:53):
Raisor go get one fat and be in instead of
the buck. Here now is the third inning, and Johnny

(39:14):
Logan will lead off for the Milwaukee Braves against John Larson.
There's no scar as Logan. It comes up Logan hitting
two fifty in the World Series. So far he's been
a Futch player for the Milwaukee Braves. Johnny got Milwaukee's

(39:37):
first hit of the fifty eighth Series when he ran
the first hinning double the left off Whitey FOURD in
the first game. And in the second game, just when
it appeared the Yankees might escape the Braves first hinting
at first with only two runs across, Logan inserted of
the two run single, and this had also made it
possible for Lou Burdette to step to the plate and
wallops three run of Homer that inning. All sift to go.

(39:58):
Here's Larson's pitch and it comes up low for the ball.
Tremendous crowd on hand. It's estimated at being up there
around the seventy thousand mark, wraps a little below a
little over. But as we look around, you can't see
an empty seat in Yankee Stadium down there seeing a
tight ball game. Here's the pitch. Logan files one, and
that bounded off. Terra seemed to hit him up there

(40:20):
about chest high on the file over near the left shoulder.
He was stunned for a moment.

Speaker 2 (40:26):
He's up now.

Speaker 1 (40:32):
Yogi takes a lot of feeding, but he always seems
to come back for more, and he's a great competitor.
And Larson has stepped back off the mound with the
count now one on one to Logan pitcher. Bob Rush
will be the number nine man and then the top
of the botting order for all the braves. Now Barrow's
all set. Crouchers gives the sign Larson ready to work
on the right hander into the wind up. Here comes

(40:54):
the pitch on There is a high pop up along
the left field line over toward the seats. Kubeck is
moving outside the line and he has it. Saul Logan
pops up and file up. Territory all out number one,
as Tony Kuback the short stop went over to Holoden.

(41:16):
Here's the pitcher of Bob Rush. Rush was the Braves'
third biggest winner behind the Berdeddon spawn, and he put
on his best skirt in the home stretch, winning four
after August twenty seven. Saul Rush out of two hundred
bounding average this past season. He can swing that battle

(41:38):
on occasion. Steps in there with one out, nobody on.
In the third inning, Larson delivers and it's a curved
wide for ball fall one. The rush on deck Bill Bruton.
Larson tugs the cop now looks and to get the sign.
Here's the wind up and the pitch on the way

(41:58):
a fastball on the outside corner for a called strike.
Rush startled to go for that one. Looked like he
just moved in a bit and then held back. Looked
to Tom Grumman for the sign that was called a strike.
Now is one on one to rush one out? There's
nobody on him as no score in the third inning.
Here's the next pitch and i'd say swinging a miss.

(42:19):
Larson kept that one in tight the fastball and a
Rush swung on it for strike two one and two
the counter Rush. The outfield is moved in just slightly
for Rush, but not too noticeably wind up by Larson.
Here it comes and a swing a miss, and Rush
is out on a strikeout saw That means there are

(42:41):
two away in the third inning as Bruton, who let
off the ball game with a punt attempt and was
thrown out by Barrow, comes up for the second time.
Well it starts out right. Now is a pitching duel
between Larson and Rush, and for Larson he has had
four strikeouts so far. Now Bruton steps in left tended batter,

(43:03):
The outfield pulls around slightly toward right, Larson into the
wind up, and the first pitch on away a change
up curve for a coss right. While Don began pitching
with no wind up back in nineteen fifty six, but
he returned to using the wind up occasionally the season

(43:23):
when he began having elbow trouble, he's been using it
the safternoon. Here comes another curve comes in Law on
the count now is one and one to Bruton. Two
outs so for in the ball game, Tory will they single.
The center has the only hit for the Milwaukee Raids,
and the only hit for the Yankees so far has
been Bowers infield, hit too deep short, Dona's one and
one to Bruton. Larson ready, big right hander, goes into

(43:48):
the wind up on the pitch to Bruton, a fastball
which is swung on and missed on the Count Miles
fall once right too. Both these pitches have good stuff
the safternoon. Barson flips the rosen bag up to the side,
now tows the rubber once again. The count is ball
once by two Bruton and in waiting holds the bat ready.

(44:09):
Here's the pitch. It's a curve ball which was high.
I'm the Count Niles two and two to Bruton two
and two. Here's the wine up. Here comes the next
one and a curve ball comes in law Bruton just
barely startled to move for it, then held back. So
four in the ball game we've seen no walks issued
by either pitcher. But the Count Nile's gone to three

(44:30):
and two, and again Barson is stepped back, goes to
the rosendag, now tows the rubber, gets the signe from
bar up. Brooton in there waiting with the count three
and two. Here's the wind up, and here comes the pitch.
A fastball is low and Bruton draws a walk. So
that is the first walk in this third game. I'm
the batter is Red Chandings, who grounded out on the

(44:51):
first inning on a hard hit ball to the first baseman,
Bill Scouring. Chantings, to switch hitter, is in there batting
left handed against Larson, as is his style. He's choked
up there in the bottom. He crouches slightly at the
plate with his knees, has a look for the runner,

(45:15):
and the pitch a swing, a miss, fire Red and
it strike one. Bruton, a fast man on first base,
kN has strike one to shrain Dings. There are two outs,
endless dirdining softur in the ball game. Nobody has been
able to get to second bases yet there's a lot

(45:36):
throw to first and Bruton is back to the bay.
It's been a pitcher's battle all the way, Larson with
they stretch in the pause and another throw to first base,
and again Bruton is back. You may recall when we
broadcast from Milwaukee, the constant chat when Bruton was on go,
go go. He again edges off the base. He's going

(45:59):
as shined Ings files one off to the side. He
got a good break that time and Red swinging away
on the pitch. Bob went off to the side and
Bruton is moving back. So all the count now is
all in two to Shaneeds. Red steps out and Larsen
with his bike. Now a home plate surveys the defensive alignment.

(46:19):
Now besides little more Rowson may help the situation. Puts
the bag up the side, looks in to get the
side from yo Ghibera. Bruton again the hedges slightly off,
first scouring covering there at the bag from the yard,
scratching the paws to look toward the runner. The pitch
is filed back behind home plate. That time Bruton just
made up bluff. He just started his move, but quickly

(46:41):
put on the brakes. Sad's now strike two. The count
holds to Shane East as Varson, with a new ball,
is back off the mound. Weelve off rubbing up the ball.
Couldn't ask for finer weather, and certainly an enthusiastic crowd
is on hand, a large crowd capacity crowd to witness
this third and most important ball game here, the first

(47:02):
in the New York's Yankee Stadium in the series. Now
we're all set to go is Larsen looks in to
get the sip from barrel, the strutching the balls to
look toward Bruton. The first there goes Bruton. There's the
picture as a ground ball right to the spot Tha
hated by Kuebec. Bruton is on the way to third.
Shandy's for the perfect execution of the hit and run.
What one wait for the spot that Kubec left as

(47:23):
Kubec went over to come the second as Bruton made
a dash for the bag. You couldn't ask for a
fighter execution offensively. Now we have just witnessed demonstrated Bruton
running and trainings put one right through Shorts down as
Kuback went over to cover. So the Milwaukee Raids now
with two outs. Now Bruton on third and trained east

(47:45):
John first. I'm a batter. Is the dangerous Kenny Matthews
who's struck out on the first night. Ed Matthews isn't there.
I'll set to go. Here's the pitch and there's a

(48:09):
high foule which is going over toward the seats and
it ends up in the seats. So let's strike one
to Addie Matthews and has gone down on strikeouts five
times in the series, but he's also contributed to the

(48:30):
Milwaukee Brave success with some fine healing plays and he's
had a double in a single. He's driven in a
couple of runs. A left tended batter who can really
hit that long ball. And on first and third, two outs,
here's the pitch and is a fastball moving Matthews bike
count laws one on one and Larson steps back off

(48:50):
the mound. Hour set is a looking to get the
side on third base Bruton on first chaneeas here's the
pitch and there's another high file which is going back

(49:13):
out of play. Barros started to give. Chase gave up
as the ball ended back on the screen and it
style ball ones right two to Matthews. Matthews last year
had a most rheumatic home runs two run extra ending
of homer won the fourth game, and this past year

(49:36):
for the Braves he had thirty one homers and seventy
seven RBIs. Larsen back to the rosenbag once again on
third base, Bruton on first, it's Chandans and there are
two outs as the Braves have the first big scoring
opportunity here in the third all set to going down
the countos ball ones right, too. Matthews waits. Here's the
pitch an it say, swear a mess. Matthews signed us

(49:58):
strike out that retires the side in this third turtle
showing Laurns one head lawers and two or left and
the scar after the top half of the third and
eight Milwaukee. Nothing that you are a Yankees nothing Evan

(50:19):
notice out carefully. The Braves pitch to Yogi Berra. He's
a rough man at the plate, has been for years.
You know. Every time Bera scarts, he sets a new
world series record for games played. And Gellette's World Series
Special a one piece TV razor is setting new records too.
All over America, men are taking advantage of this wonderful bargain,

wireless supply lasts. There's no score. This is the bottom

(51:29):
of the third and it's Dell Scouring hitting two fifteen
the series, leading off against Rush, Husky right handed battery
and and waiting. Here's the first pitch and it's a funt.
Rush comes over to field up with the ball throwust
the first fully ydd Scouring is on. The funt was
to the right side. It was about ten feet inside
the line and Rush seemed to hesitate for just a

(51:53):
brief instant as he broke off the rubber the field
the vall. He came up with a nicely His throw
was lo toy took it about put off the ground
at first, but Scaron is out down there's one away.
Gill mcdoggald, hitting three seventy five in the series is
up there now for the first time against Bob Rush

(52:14):
and the right hand is first pitch is a curve
which is low for a ball. Gill cracked out a
couple of singles in the first game of the series.
He added another single in the second game. Rush delivers
and there's a fastball which is foul back behind the

(52:34):
fight off to our right on the continas one and
one to kill McDougald with one out. So far there
has been one hit for the Yankees, Bowers infield hit
and for Milwaukee there have been two hits. The wind
up and the pitch is a fastball which is high

(52:56):
and the contains about two and strike one to Gil mcdougill.
Bob Rush on the mound, with his first World Series start,
gets the sign. Now from Dell cradle. McDougal waits, here's
the two and one pitch on the way, A curveball
is wide on the count. Now is three and one
on deck. Although not pup out of the dogaddles yet

(53:18):
is the pitcher Don Larson, who is a pretty fair hitter.
And we've seen that pitchers hitting gonna make a big
difference in this World Series. The three and one pitches
on the way a fastball sent at one hot back
to Rush. He's got it. He throwed a first for
they out rush and making that grave of McDougall's hot

(53:41):
founder to the box, fell to his knees, was up
quickly and got all over the first base and plenty
of time for hot number two. And that brings up
the pitcher Don Larson. Wen Larson found at three to
zero six. This season he had fifteen to forty nine
with four homers and thirteen RBIs. He has been used
as a pinch eater. As a matter of fact, he

(54:05):
established the major League record for pitches by hitting safely
seventh great times with the Saint Louis Browns back in
nineteen fifty three. So Larson steps in. He's got power
to all fields. Two outs, We're in the bottom half
of the third. Here comes the pitch and a fastball
comes in wide football one. There's no score, nobody on

(54:28):
base and two away for the New York Yankees Rush
who throws that good fastball on the mound, dip slowing
the wide up, Up goes the arm. The pitch on
the way occurve and there's a slow hopper halfway back
to the mond Rush fields a frost to first for
the odd Larson tough that one and Rush in the
third has the Yankees down in order. The score at

(54:50):
the end of three innings Milwaukee Nothing, New York Nothing, Hey,
don't get bye.

Speaker 1 (56:05):
In the fourth inning, the leadoff batter will be Hank
Aaron against Karl Larson. Hank went down swinging in the second,
to be followed by Cullington and Tory. Larson so far
as posted five strikeouts. Incently, it was rather an odd inning.
In the bottom of the third, when Bob Rush got
all three assists, skyon bunten went out. Then mcdougill and

(56:29):
Larson grabbed it up from the pitcher to first on
the sky and bunt Rush through to Tory. Also, so
here's Aaron now leading off. There's no score. We're in
the fourth inning. Hank a right handed battery and they're
in waiting Larson. All set goes into the wind up
and the pitch on the way is a breaking pitch
for a call strike. Hank kipped the double which alluded

(56:51):
Yankee right field to Hank Bauer in the eighth inning
of the fifty eighth series opener, led to the removal
of Whitey Ford and the subsequent downfall of the New
Yorker's game. In the second contest, Aaron had two singles
in a walk and he scored two runs. He's in
there with a strike one count as Lars and curved
him in the outside corner. Here's the next pitch. A
fastball is filed off to the right on the count

(57:13):
and strike two to Hank. Aaron leading off on the
fourth inning of a scrollless ball game. This past season,
Hank had thirty homers and ninety five runs botted him
and a three to twenty six botting average. He's in
there waiting with a two strike count. Larson gets the

(57:36):
side from Barratt. The ot deal is playing deep aarm.
Here's the white up on the pitch on the way
a fastball, and there's a high flow ball going to
short left. Severn comes in waiting, Ann Hassel strong sun
is beating out there and left and center the right field,

(57:57):
and deep right in the shadows right now is the
The shadows also extend just beyond the first base line
and start to creep out over the infield with the
air and fly out to Seaburn. The matter now is
Wes Covington, who popped up in the second saw. Covington
is in there, one out, nobody on. Here comes the pitch.

(58:19):
A curve is high for a ball. The farthest advance
so far in the ballgame has been in the third inning,
as on a perfectly executed hit and run with two away.
Bruton on first, Chantings put one through the hole vacated
by the shortstop in the left and Bruton moved to third. However,
Larson Titan then got Matthews in a strikeout to retire

(58:42):
the side, and so the Braves had two scranted. That's
been the farthest advance by either side. Earlier. Tory had
a single in the second, but he was left the
first base. And but the Yankees so far. Bauer singled
an infield hit in the first hitting, but as Kubeck
struck out, Bauer was picked off first by Krannell. And
that's been the only Yankee on He's swinging on miss

(59:02):
s now by Wes Comington as he gave it a
big riffle that time on the count is one and one.
Covington steps outside about his box. When Rush had three
assists in the third inning, he became the fourth to
do it in the World Series. One and one to Covington.

(59:25):
Here's Larson's pitch down there, he goes along clop on
a left center mandal is going to us right. That
has it miles of Wells broke ball by Comington, but Maddel,
who was playing fairly deep, moved to his right to
haul it in down there two away. In the fourth, Tory,

(59:46):
who was one of the two Brave hits off Larson,
is the next man up for Milwaukee, a left tended batter.
The outfield is pulled slightly around toward right, and so
far pitchers have dominated this third game. Larson and Rush
both pitching super ball up to this point. Tory steps in.

(01:00:08):
Here's the lineup and the pitch a curve which is
filed by and at strike one. Both of these men
were going very well toward the latter part of the year.
Larson pitched eleventh straight shotout innings and two appearances toward
the close of the season as a tune up for
the series, and Rush also finished strong coming down the

(01:00:30):
home stretch for the Milwaukee Braves. So they both come
in at the peak of their condition. Here's the pitch
to Tory and there it goes a looping drive to
short center. It's in there for a hit. Tory lifted
a curve ball in the short center and Mano came
in elected to play it on the hop and Tory
now has his second hit. Both have been a center

(01:00:51):
The hit back in the second was a sharp liner.
This one was sort of a looped ball going out,
but both were in there. There are two of the
three Milwaukee hits. Torry is two and cheneyes tas the other.
In the series. Toy is three. For eight now and

(01:01:12):
the batter is del Crandell, who struck out in the second.
Two outs, torr on first, Krandell steps in. Larson throws
over to Scaron, but Tory has not moved off the bag.
Now Dell waiting swings right from the end of the bat.
There's the stretch in the balls by Larson. Here's the

(01:01:32):
pitch and it comes in high for a ball ball
one to Crandle. Dell had a two to seventy two
average this past season, and he stroked eighteen homers and
his average equaled as major league batting high. And they're

(01:01:52):
waiting with the ball one count. Torry edges off first base,
so look till the runner. Larson's pitch on the way
is a fastball which comes in law for ball two.
Tari has been playing the latter part of the season
in the series with his right wrist taped standing around

(01:02:13):
his thumb. Certainly is not interfered with his batting stroke,
as you've already witnessed. As he is two this afternoon,
two base hits. Crandell waits, Larson taking a good leave
at a time, the stretching, the pause. Here's the pitch,
and I'd say swinging a miss by del Cradle the
count Nile's ball two strike one. Larson goes to the

(01:02:36):
rosenbag once again. John flips it aside, looks to get
the sign now from Yogi Berra Tari at first two
outs and feel back at normal depth. The outfield is
slightly pulled around toward left, stretching the pause. I look
for the runner. The pitch to crandell Thomson wide. That

(01:02:57):
makes it now ball three and strike one. Wow, this
is a big pitch coming up right now with the
cop three and one to Craddle. If he walks, that
will put Tory in scoring position. I'll let's see what
the Braves decide to do. Now is Cradle again is
in and wing Larson with the stretching the pause. Tory

(01:03:18):
leads and he draws the throw and hustles back to
the bag. Scarn returns the ball quickly to Larson, who
again goes to the Rosen bag. Now I touched the cop,
looks and they get the sign. Count all three, strike
one to Cradle. I look toward the runner. There is
the pitch on a liner which is foul. Craddle last

(01:03:40):
one which was file outside and left the line file
by about twenty five feet a saw saw that makes
it three and two. I was noting as the pitch
came in the Tory I made a fake break toward
a second base, but then he quickly stopped out of
the sign up his eye, so that Yogi barup. You're

(01:04:02):
to be noticing just slightly three and two. Tory will
be moving on the next pitch, there he goes. Here
comes the pitch and it's a stripe pawn, a curve fawn,
crandalus hand and a strike. After retire the side saw
on the fourth norons one hit, no arrows, and one
man is left on the score after the top half

(01:04:24):
of the fourth inning remains mill Waukee, Nothing New York. Nothing.
You're among the many series stars. You surely can't overlook
Billy Bruton. Billy's hitting sure has added a lot of
Bruders to the Bruton fan club. And here's news is
making plenty of new fans for Gillette. Now you can
get a Gillette one piece TV razor, but just seventy

(01:04:46):
nine cents. Here's the shaving value of the year. Seventy
nine cents buys a modern Gellette TV razor and a
spencer of Gellette blue leys and a good looking travel case.
No wonder it's such a big hit. The Gellette TV
raizer is decision engineered in one piece. Lade changing takes
only an instant, A quick rinse in its clean and
double edges give you more shaves per blade. You save

(01:05:09):

sure to get your World Series special a Gilette TV raiser,
a dispenser of Gelett blue blades, and a travel case,
all for just seventy nine cents. But don't delay, they're
going fast. It's been a magnificent pitching duel which we're

(01:05:39):
witnessing Rush and Larsen, and so far Severns apply to
left in the second inning has been the only ball
hit to the outfield by the Yankees. Hank Bauer, who
is New York's only hit, leads off in this bottom

(01:06:01):
half of the fourth. Bauer had an infield hit. He
feed out Logan's throw from deepen the hole at short
to Tory at first. So Hank Bauer is in there
and they wind up by a rush. Here comes the pitch.
A fastball is popped up file outside of first, Tory
goes outside the line and he's got it. There's one

(01:06:27):
out and the batter is Tony Kubeck, who whipped in
the first inning away that these pitchers out there are
mowing down. The batter's coming up. It looks as if
a break are just a couple of hits back to
back could be a deciding packer. Here's Kubec now and

(01:06:49):
he attempts a button Missus Faws Franke one Frank one
to Tony Kubek. On deck is Mickey Madtle. Of course,
whenever Mattle is on deck, the crowd keeps a couple
of guys focused over there on him because he always
has the strength to break up any ball game. Kubec
in there winning. Here's the pitch, a curve and there's

(01:07:10):
a line here right to Johnny Logan far out number two.
Kubec lining out to Logan, Johnny starting to break towards second.
That ball curve right in towardous glove as he was moving.
Here's Mantel, who's struck out on the first inning, comes
up now with two away. Nobody on in the bottom half,

(01:07:31):
opening number four. No score in this third game of
the World Series, and this is the game that the
Yankees need if they want to stay back in contention.
The Braves just want to keep rolling along. The first
pitch to Meddle is a fastball which is wide. The
count now is ball one. Thank Aaron is playing just
a few feet from that low barrier out there in

(01:07:53):
right ball won to mattle the line up by Rush
right hand. His pitch is a fastball which moves Mantle
back from the plate and the cant nile's ball two.
Mattel has certainly hit some mammouth homers here in this ballpark,
as well as other ballparks throughout the league. Two and

(01:08:13):
O the count the wind up by Rush on the
next pitch on the way another fastball which has fouled
it'll out of Randle's met is now ball two strike one.
Brandell rubbing up a new ball before feeding it out
to Bob Rush on the mound court. Tomorrow instant Lee

(01:08:39):
will be Whitey Ford against Warren Spawn, so we should
see a continuation of this excellent pitching. Ball two strike
one to Mantle. Rush all set right handed, dips low
and the wind up brings the arm of pop of
his head. Delivers a fastball which is a called strike
on the outside corner on the contain. Now there's two

(01:08:59):
and two came in about letter a high in the
outside corner. Count niles two and two to Mantle two away.
Rush decides to go to the rossenbak for the moment.
Now steps back up, tows the rubber, looks in toward
the plate. Mantle keeps that bat all set ready and waiting.
Here's the two and two pitch, and it's inside and

(01:09:22):
the count niles three and two. Rush changed speeds that
time cons three and two. Again. Rush steps back, rubs
up the ball, not steal as steep count to Mantle
three and two or I'll set to go. Here's the
wind up on the three and two pitch on the
way is low and Mantle draws a lot so for

(01:09:51):
Rush the first walk that he's given up as he
pitched furry cautiously to a mantle. And now the crowd
here in New York comes to light a jokey Vera
steps in hey filed out on a pop up in
the second Caaulbera is up there now with madel on

(01:10:14):
first and two hours. As a look to the runner.
The pitch is ball one fastball Albera is oh for one.
He needs only one more hit to equal the record
to fifty eight hits made by Frankie. Frish brought a

(01:10:40):
first base, but Mattle is not moving. Now, Rush all
set to go again. Here it comes, and Vera watches
a strike come over on the inside. Twentyer called strike one.
Kinda's one and one to bear. Another throw to first base,

(01:11:02):
but Manel is standing right there at the by this
past year, Yogi hit two sixty six with twenty two
homers and ninety rbiyes. Another throw to first base and
Mantle still is not straight off the by hot Rush
has taking all chances. He's keeping Mantle closed. Anna Beara
steps out of about his box. Yogi back in and waiting,

(01:11:27):
scratching the pause. Here's the one in one pitch a fastball,
it's too low, and the count niles ball two strike one.
In the first game of the fifty eighth series, Yogi
had a double and a single, twenty one hitless. In
the second contest, two and one the coup, Mattle takes
a slim lead off first. Now a little further, Manto's

(01:11:50):
moving as Bara swings. There's a pop up. Chaney's just
waiting for it, and he's got.

Speaker 8 (01:11:54):
It's on the bottom half of the for it now
runs no hips, now errors, and one left.

Speaker 1 (01:12:05):
At the end of four innings, the score is Milwaukee,
nothing New York nothing. Look sharp, you sharp, be sharp
and listen. Mister, how are you fixed? Blade? Blade? How
are you fixed?

Speaker 9 (01:12:21):
Or blades?

Speaker 10 (01:12:22):
You metchecks?

Speaker 1 (01:12:24):
Made sure you have not call the worn out plane?
Make shave and mind? How are you fixed? For blade?
To let me let's pause thirty seconds for a station identification.

Speaker 5 (01:12:47):
The yellow label is your only guarantee of getting real
visy Saratoga vichy.

Speaker 1 (01:12:52):
If you want real vishy yellow yellow Lady, yellow lay yellow.

Speaker 5 (01:12:56):

Speaker 1 (01:13:21):
It's been a scoreless ballgame as we move into the
fifth inning and Johnny Logan will lead off against Darl Larson.
Larson has struck out six in the first four He
has yielded three heads so far. Tory has two singles
shadings to a single. A Bob Rush, pitching against the
New York Yankees in the first four innings, has given

(01:13:41):
up only one hit. That was Bower, who singled an
infield hit on the first and the Hank was picked
off in the same frame as Kubeck went out on
a strikeout on crandall's for to Tory. Since that time,
the only of the Yankee to bit on base was Mattel,
who walked in the fourth was left straded. Sod's been
a tight one all the way. Here's Logan, who is
er for one. He filed out in the third leading off.

(01:14:05):
Here in the fit, Johnny steps in the face Larsen,
and Don's first pitch is high for a ball curving
in the ballgame. Arson, on just a few pitches didn't
take his full wind up, but since that time has
been utilizing him coming up over his head. Here's the

(01:14:25):
next pitch, and there goes a fly on the left field.
Seburn is there and he has it. Saw there's one
out on that play. Logan gave it a big cut
and appear like he might possibly have splintered his back.
Severn started to move back and then decided to come

(01:14:46):
in because that ball took off well but didn't seem
to carry saw Logan is out and the applause is
for Bob Rush, who struck out in the third. Nay,
it's a scurreless ballgame. And the one out in the
fifth Rush steps in. That's right handed. Here's the pitch
and it's a curvely outside corner foot called strike from

(01:15:07):
Don Larson, and there is strike two, strike two to

(01:15:29):
Rush with one out on the top of the fifth.
Now Larson into the wine up. Here it comes and
the pitch is wide fall one, strike two to Rush
the aftfield the five Spickey Mantle moved in just slightly

(01:15:50):
in centerfield. Larson set to work right hand. He goes
to the wine up. Here's the one and two pitch,
a stripe three swinging as Rush goes out in a strikeout. Well,
Larson is having a big afternoon in the strike at
the department with seven posted now and there are two
away in the fifth. As Phil Bruton comes up, Hell

(01:16:13):
is awful one and he's walked simon strikeouts Faul Larson
in four and two thirty eighths and Bruton comes up
with two outs and on no screwing the ball game. Bruton,
the left handed batter and in winning. Here's the wind
up by Don and the pitch is a strike fall

(01:16:34):
on the outside punter. Strike one to Bruton. So far
the high strikeouts in the series eight by wenty Ford.
Here's the next pitch to Bruton and it comes in
wide and the contin is one and one. Larson back off,

(01:16:58):
the maud goes to the rosen days. Don has the
fine assortment of pitches at good fastball, fine slidered curves.
He stretched the wind up. Here's the one in wan pitch,
a change up which is popped up, foul, lumpy, outside
of the line at third waiting. He's got it right
by the coach's box to retire the side. It's on

(01:17:21):
the fifth there way often thwait. Now on the score
after the top half of the fifth inning, is Milwaukee nothing,
the Yankee is nothing. And now here at the microphone,
here's a young fellow who has won a national reputation
with his fine airwork. The voice of the Milwaukee Braves,
Earl Gillespie. Well, thank you very much, Bob wolf in

(01:17:41):
quite a ball game here. The third game of the
series is the Milwaukee Braves late in the series two
victories of the Yankees one and the Yankees coming to
the battom the last hour of the fifth thing and
a scoreless pitchers duel between Bob Rush and Don Larson.
Marm Seberan, who flied the left fielder the first time
at bat, takes smike one like Tom the alley, across
the knees and fly to Covington in the second. As

(01:18:02):
Bob Brush has based only thirteen none of the first
four innings, no Yankee is reached second base. I feel
is about straight away from the lieutenantviting Norman Seaburn, who
takes the ball the past ball is outside, ball one
and strike one. Big Bob Brush, who now makes his
home down in Mesa, Arizona, which happens to be the

(01:18:22):
spring training headquarters of the Chicago Cups. Starting in the motion,
kicks up his left leg, the right arm down. The
pitches swing on miss strike two, and it's one and
two on Seaburn. On deck is third baseman Jerry Lumpy,
and Lumpy will be followed by first baseman Bill Scowren.
No score. The Braves have had three hits, two singles

(01:18:42):
by first baseman Frank Tory and a hit and run
base hit by Red Shandeans. The Yankees have had one
hit leadoff single in the end field by Hank Bauer,
ball one and strike two on Norm Seburn. The pitch
is just too close, ball two and strike two just
missed the side corner. Drave's outfield this afternoon has Covington

(01:19:04):
and left, Billy Bruton in center field and Henry Aaron
in right field. Matthews the third logan at short Shading's
the second base and Torry at first base. Crandle behind
the play, and Bob Rush is on the mound ball
two in a strike two count the pitch and Seeburn
takes high and it's ball three. Full count three and two.
Bob Rush went the distance on Mickey Mantle in the

(01:19:27):
last half of the fourth inning. On a three to
two pitch, he walked Mickey, who became the second Yankee
base runner. Here's the winged up by Rush, three to
two pitch and it's fall four And for the second
time in the ball game, the Yankees get their leadoff
man on base power single the deep short in the
first Norm Seburn draws the second walk off. Bob Rush

(01:19:49):
puts a Yankee runner on first pace, with nobody else
brings up the third baseman, Jerry Lumpy. Lumpy was thrown
off by Eddie Matthews in the second and Frank Torrey,
going to the home plate side of first base, was
forced to tag Lumpy as he went by at first
a left ten and bat of the outfield, playing a
little bit towards left. He's going up on, takes a

(01:20:10):
strike on the outside corner and it's a spike. One counts.
Jerry Lumpy, making his first start of the series, had
appeared once as a pinch batter. He replaces Andy Kerrey,
who is hitless and six times at bat. The pitch
is cut on. There's a high fly ball short center field.

(01:20:31):
Logan is racing back. Fruton is coming in. I watch
you out. Billy's calling for the ball. He makes the
cat long run by the center fielder, Billy Bruton. And
that was the same type play that ruin Billy Bruton
in nineteen fifty seven at Pittsburgh's Forbes Field when he
crashed into Felix Mantee on a high flyball short center field.

(01:20:52):
Then not Bruton out of the fifty seven Ball Classic.
This time Logan vered away as Billy kept charging in
and calling for the ball. So that's one ups Sebrant
on first base. And here is first baseman scoleron Big
Bill Scleron, who tried to bunt for a base that
was thrown up by Rush in the third. The infield

(01:21:13):
is straight away, the outfield deep shaded slightly towards left.
As Rush looks delivers, here's a swing in the ground
ball of the second baseman's left stab wife Shane Days
over the first t's on in that great play by
the red has beautiful playto his gloved hand. Sign is
Shane Day's roaming part of his left picked up that

(01:21:35):
hot dround all off. The bat of Bill Scoleuron fired
over the Tory and they got scouring at first base,
sending sebrand in the second base. So the Yankees have
their first base runner on second in the ball game,
and we have a young southball one Bizzarro loosening up
in the left center field bullpen for manager Brett Haney.
One Bizzarro the first New York jank you to reach

(01:22:00):
second base, Norm Seburn two outs. The batter of second
viseman Gil mcgoggle, the clutch ball player. Gil was thrown
out by Bob Rush and made a fine stab of
Gill's herd shot to his left in the third inning,
so he's all for one, takes ball one. It's one
outside ball one and no strikes, no score. We're in
the last half of the fifth inning, a real solid

(01:22:22):
Pitture's duel between Bob Rush and Don Larson. Right headed batter.
They're going to walk Gill. McDougall now with first base
opened to bring up the picture Don Larson, and is
Bob Wolf told you pops on Larson's last appearance to play.
He is a dangerous hitter, but the bribe's going for

(01:22:44):
percentage now sending up the forest. Play at any bag
in the infield, and there's ball four to kill. McDougall's
an intentional lot and a big hand for the guy
who has turned in a tremendous performance so far. Don
Larson working a three hitter, and now he's going to
try to swing that bet to help his own cause.

(01:23:06):
Don Larson thrown out by Bob Rush in the third
Yankee runners pirch Don first and second base. Two Menu
are out of the last half of the fifth inning.
The outfeel about straight away, the in fields straight away.
The redhead deep at second base. Here is the pitch,
and it's say, fitch fall outside, ball one knows strikes. This,
of course, is the key man for Bob Rush, because

(01:23:28):
a mighty dangerous and a red hot hank follower is
on deck. Larson, waiting as Rush gets the sign, delivers
a swing and a foul back here towards this line
shot back on the screen, and it's ball one and
strike one. Larson went up to the plate forty nine
times this year, had fifteen base hits, ball one and

(01:23:49):
strike one. Yankee runners on first and second. Here's a
swing in a foul up onto the upper deck first
place side, and it's ball one and spike two. And
now Bob Rush is out in front of the hitter.
He can make Larson go after his best pitch, ball
one and strike two. Norm Sieban on second base, Jill
mcdougam on first base, both walked. McDougall receiving an attention

(01:24:09):
will pass with the first base open. Rush working in
the bottom half of the fifth inning a Yankee stadium,
the big be spectacled white hander goes into the stretch, kicks,
delivers curve ball falling outside, and it's ball two. And
spike two. Rush kept that breaking pitchlowing away from this
dangerous Don Larson. Ball two, Strike two, Eddie Matthews deep

(01:24:32):
in third, Logan is deep and Short Shadings is standing
on the edge of the outfield grass at second base,
and Tory is deep at first. Two to two pitch,
Ball three. It's falling outside, so the stage is set.
Ball three in a spike two town, a fat pitch
will load them up and bring up Pink Power, and
the Yankee runners on first and second base will be

(01:24:54):
going on the three to two pitch. Bob Rush reaches down,
gives that rods and sock of squeeze. This cap steps
up on the rubber, looks down at delf Krandle, and
a mighty important pitch is coming your way. In just
a second. Ball three is fight two. There's a stretch
by Rush Arm down there going the runners. There is
ball four, and the Yankees have a lot of the

(01:25:20):
vices in the last half of the fifth innings, and
we move up to the top of the biting order.
One of the great clutch ball players in the history
of this world series, Classic Tank Power, who has said
safely in seventeen consecutive World Series games. He beat out
and hit the deep short on the first hopped out

(01:25:40):
to Tory on the first pitch. In the fourth inning,
Tank Power with a chance to put the Yankees out
in front, and the left tender one Pizarro starts growing harder.
In the right bullpen raves Outville is shading Howard towards
the left. Bob Rush has his winged up back down
at Del Frandle. He's in a hot spot in the motion,

(01:26:03):
there comes the first pitching Ballard takes fall one. It's
high ball, one of those spikes, and the Yankee crowd
here at Yankee Stadium comes alive as the Yankee threatened
no score. Bottom half of the fifth inning. Sebra on
third base, McDougal on second base, Don Marson on first base.
Ball one knows s flike count Bob Brush has the sign.

(01:26:23):
Here's the pitching Hank Baward takes a spike on the outside.
Corney hyats ball one and spike one, ball one, swike
win common Bawer. Hank steps out of the batter's box.
This guy's been around a long time. He knows the
pressure of the World Series as he is playing now
in his ninth World Series Ball one, spike one counts.

(01:26:46):
Yankee followers probably couldn't have a better guy up there
in this situation. Here's the pitch. There's a swing in
a high foul up in the upper deck behind the plate.
And now Bob Rush is out in front of Bower,
just as he was out in front of Don Larson
ball one and Spike two. Buddy walked Larsen. But there's
no place to put Bower now as the bases are jammed,

(01:27:06):
no score and the last tip of the pippenning. Bob
Rush knup on the rubber, takes his time, bending of
the waist nods. He has the sign into motion. Here's
the one and two pitch. Power swings at the plank
on a short right faield. It might drump end f
bays it. It is one hunter is going, two runs
are going. There is a plate of a plate. Come

(01:27:28):
on out on a great blue chip performance by Hank Bowers.

(01:27:51):
He dropped the single of the right field with Yankee
runners moving two runs score. The Yankees laid two and
nothing and that is only hip number two off Bob
Rush and the fellow who possesses both pits. The guy
on first base Hank Puller Don Larson moved around the
third base. The trow Falmaron was cut by Frank Tory
between first base and Hope lights. Now they got up

(01:28:11):
the shorts doff Tony Quebec Yankees leading two nothing. In
the last habit, the fifth Kuebec has struck out line.
The short swings at the grid in the right player
field frouton back. There is waiting teammates to catch, and
that retires a side seven men better than the last habit.
The fifth woman two runs score on just one hit,
three walks, one intentional, no errors, and two Yankees were

(01:28:34):
left dun base. The score is New York too and
Milwaukee nothing. Jillette has been asked to bring you the
following message of the Public Service. This is an important
election year. We'll be electing all members of the House
of Representatives, plus thirty two senators, lous thirty four governors,

(01:28:55):
plus hundreds of other local officials. In the light of
the great world and the problems, it's especially important that
you and me, and every citizen of voting age makes
certain that only the most capable men and women represent us.
And remember this the strongness reminder we can give the
entire world that America is very much interested in preserving

(01:29:16):
our free way of life is an overwhelming turnout of voters.
So register, get all the facts, and vote for the
people of your choice. Here are the five inning totals
at Yankee Stadium, the third game of the nineteen fifty
eight World Series. New York two runs, two hits, no errors,
three left on base. Milwaukee no runs, three hits, no errors,

(01:29:39):
four left un base. The turning point, probably in that
last half of the fifth was when Bob Blush had
Don Larson in the Hall of all won and strike two,
then tried to get them on an outside corner. Pitch
missed that corner three times and Larson walked. Volding the
base is then Boer that a looping flyball short right field,

(01:30:00):
Aaron racing in try to make a beautiful pick up
off the ball couldn't reach it, though it fell in
and has two runs across the plate, and Boward drives
in his fourth and fifth runs of the series. So
we move on. At the top half of the sixth inning,
the Braves will send up Red Shandings, Teddy Matthews, and
Henry eron the face right hander Don Larson, Don Larson,

(01:30:22):
who on the season won nine ball games and lost six,
and this young fellow, there's a lot of great important
shot there to the New York Yankees. Shaney's has one
of the three hits off Larson. He singled into left
field and a vacated shortstop position as Kuebeck was moving

(01:30:43):
over to cover second base on a hip and run,
as Bruton was moving in first and Shaney's drowned to
the ball in the left field for base at fastball.
His paint outside. That's bowl one, Paul one of those
strikes to count. Shaney's, Matthews and Aaron the first three
men to face Don Larson. Shandings went out to Bill
Scolon unassisted at first base in the first inning, switch

(01:31:05):
hitter betting up ten. It takes a spike in the beauty.
That's wake down the alley ball one spikeland count one
and one on red shandeas Eddie Matthews on deck has
had trouble with Don Larson today is struck out twice.
The motion goes Larsen. He delivers a slow curveball swung
on a drive on the white field line, going over

(01:31:26):
his barer on the road, hits in for a base hit.
Shaney's is gonna hold up at first base, as Barer
made a very quick and a very fine play, will
you throw it to the infield? Got away from the
man at second base, but it was backed up by
Jerry Lumpy. And there is hip number four off Don
Larson and shaneyas And and Tory have the four base hits.

(01:31:48):
Red two for three, Tory two for two. Third base
Benetti Matthews, who has two hits and ten times at
bat in the series, has struck out six times of
those ten. Ty Larson got him on a swinging strike
in the first and the third. A lieutenant batter with
good power run around first base. Nobody is out. He

(01:32:10):
takes ball one outside ball one. Those strikes Henry Aaron
kneeling down off to the left of the plate. The
playffs occupy the third base dugout here at Yankee Stadium, Yankees,
of course over in the first base side all won
those strikes on the left tended betting third baseman Eddie Mathews,
right hender Don Larson checks the runner, kicks the livers.
The pitches in there for call strike up, beauty breaking pitching.

(01:32:33):
It's ball one and strike one the Yankee outfield is
playing around with the right and we have action now
and the Yankee bullpen, as our dipmar is listening up.
So for the first time in the ball game, both
bullpens become active in the fifth and the sixth, and
the Yankees have a man working. Here's a strike, Eddie Matthews.

(01:32:56):
Watch that fastball on the outside corner, knee hin and
it's ball one and strike two. All one, strike two,
Cotton Matthews. Nobody is out. Shading's done first base. The pitch,

(01:33:21):
he's swinging a miss. He's struck him out to the
third time in a row, and Matthews now has a
dubious distinction. I'm striking out seven times in the three
games to date, and that is strikeout number eight for
Don Larson, which ties the high in the series. Whitey
Forward struck out eight Milwaukee Braves in the opener in
seven innings, seven complete innings. One man is out, brings

(01:33:49):
up the white fielder Henry Aaron, who's struck out on
the second, flying to Norm Seaburn in short left field.
In the fourth inning, Yankees lead to nothing right shaint
Eingston first base. Aaron will be followed by Wes Covington Henry,

(01:34:15):
right hended batter, Larson looks them over, delivers woman outside
ball one of those strikes. Aaron, the guy with that
lightning like risk action, very strong, right handed batter, has
power to all fields. And again in nineteen fifty eight,
enjoyed a banner campaign in the National League. Ball one

(01:34:36):
those strikes. The pitch is a swing and a miss.
He went after the curve ball, swinging over the ball,
and it's even up. Ball one, stake one. The Braves
have out hip, the Yankees pointed to, but they play
off in runs. The New York leeds Milwaukee two to nothing.
Ball one, strike one count on Aaron. Aaron now has

(01:34:59):
three and ten times at bat in the series, batting
an even three hundred. Larson checks the run around, delivers
a swing and a mess on the same pitch. All one,
spike two, one and two on Aaron. Henry, who hails
from Mobile, Alabama, the last winner, spent his winter months

(01:35:23):
in the city of Milwaukee during the off season. Didn't
like the snow too much after being born and raised
in Alabama. Fought around first base. One man is out,
Don Larson stretches and turns love to throw over the
first baseman, Bill Scowan Larson summing up chaneast where they

(01:35:48):
sought toss the first pace might wheel and fire. Now
Red starts edging off first. One man is out. Braves
trailed by two runs, two nothing, And here's a fastball
that's foured outside, and it's fall two and strike two.
Fall two and a strike two count and Henry Erron
the Braves right fielder, Kelley Herman coaching at third base,

(01:36:14):
and Johnny Fitzpatrick's over at first base Ball two, strike two,
Larson fires and ball three is outside, so it's a
full count on eron ball three and strike two. Aaron

(01:36:37):
had three home runs in last year's series. Hasn't found
the home run range as yet in this series, but
last year he pumped one over the bullpen in left
center field, well over four hundred feet here at Yankee Stadium,
one of leaves off first. Here's a three to two pitch,
fall four. Aaron draws the walk and let his walk

(01:37:04):
number two given up by Don Larson. He walked Bruton
back in the third, So now Milwaukee has runners on
first and second base. Brings up the left field or
West Covington, who popped out to the third baseman, Jerry
Lumpy in the second. Then he flied the Mickey mantle
and fairly deep left center field in the fourth, a

(01:37:26):
left tenant Better, who so far has driven in three
runs in the series. Titless against Don Larson This afternoon,
Yankees two, the Brave's nothing. Milwaukee has the tying run
in the first base runners on first and second. Here's
a swinging on hired shot past the first baseman, bouncing

(01:37:47):
against the lading. Here Sandy's going to try to score
and the plag Luffy's being held up. Now there are
two blaves on third base. Keny Aras trying to go back.
In the second, Sandy says, being run down between third,
the ball gets away, quicked up right Don Larson Chasey
Shandy's back to third base and he is takeout. And

(01:38:12):
there was a great bed up elemental baseball by Don
Larson as he was where he was supposed to be
backing up the throw, and he made the tag of
Saindy's on a hard shot a basin that head off.
Phil Scowland caned over in the foul territory. Casey's thing

(01:38:33):
was walking out to the mound. Now scowond Over picked
up the ball. Sandy's was waiting around third bace. He
suddenly stopped the throw came in. They had Sandy's clap,
but Aaron was over on third base. Henry's starting to
go back to second base. Shandy's done trying to get
Henry off the hook to move down the third base line,
and the throw from Luffy and the third baseman to
the plate got away from Yogi Berrah. But Don Larson,

(01:38:57):
backing up the play beautifully on the spot, ran them
down and take them at third. That's a base hit
for Wes Covington, but Shane East is out as the
prive Messa scoring opportunity here in the sixth inning scored

(01:39:23):
as a base hit. Now there are two outs. Frank Tory,
the batter Prank has two of the five hits off Larson.
Line singles the center field and the second and the fourth,
and he takes a fast strike on the inside corners.

(01:39:43):
That play is scored in case you're scoring at home
by numbers three to two to five to one Scotland
to Vera to Lumpy to Larsen. Milwaukee has runners on
first and second base. Two men are out. Brooklyn Born
Frank Torry at the plate, liftenant batter. Larson's pitch is

(01:40:06):
lowing inside. He just moved his knees back in a
hurry to get out of the way of that touching.
It's even at bowling. It's like one Frank Torry, who
as a youngster over in Brooklyn, New York, dreamed of
someday competing at Yankee Stadium last year, found the home
run range here at the Yankee Ballpark. Aaron on second base,

(01:40:33):
coming to on first base, Don Larson has the sign
and comes down with the pitch, a swing and a
drive back in the white center. Phil Palmer's going over
Hanksen like the play. He's there too much to catch
him at the tiles. The side so on two hits,
no error, two left John Bates, and the score is
New York too and Milwaukee up.

Speaker 2 (01:40:57):
All.

Speaker 10 (01:40:57):
Hi, buddy, here's a fans Mayo Smith, who recently was
signed as manager of the Cincinnati Red Legs, and Mayol,
I imagine you're quite pleased about your new position.

Speaker 1 (01:41:08):
That's true, Earl.

Speaker 9 (01:41:09):
It's grand opportunity to be named the manager of the
Cincinnati Red Legs for nineteen fifty nine.

Speaker 1 (01:41:16):
I know you're gonna have a fine ball club over there, Mayle. Incidentally,
Casey Single appears to be having quite a bit of
trouble with this Braves ball club as a National League manager.
What makes this Milwaukee ball club click?

Speaker 9 (01:41:27):
Un, Let's see overall balance of the ball club. They
have fine pitching, great defense, and good power. Their speed
might be a little weak, but that's the story on.

Speaker 1 (01:41:39):
The Milwaukee ball club, Mayol, I know the answer to
this one. But for the rest of your fans, how
do you shave? I'm a Gellette man earl from a
way back. That's my man, Yes, sir, and here's the
word for aut You a man who didn't use a
jeleute this morning. For clean, comfortable shaves. Nothing even touches
the Gillett raiser. And as a world silly speccle, you
can get no Gellett one piece TV razor for just

(01:42:02):
seventy nine cents. That includes a dispenser of Gellett blue
blades and a compact travel case. There's a bargain you
don't want to miss. And Mayo Smith, good luck to
you with the Cincinnati Red Lakes. We'll see you down
a Tampa board the next break. Thanks, erl. Mayo Smith,
wonderful guy. Last half of the sixth inning, and the

(01:42:26):
crowd is still buzzing about the base running in the
top half of the sixth inning which took the Braves
out of a rally. And now here's Mickey Manno leading
off against Bob Rush, and Mickey takes the ball that's outside.
Mickey against Bob Rush has struck out, he has walked.
He has hit eleven home runs in World Series Action
two so far. In this series, trails the immortal Bambino
Babe Ruth by fifteen, which is an all time World

(01:42:48):
Series record. There's a swing and a high file off
to the left and it's ball win and strike one.
Let me put that another way. Ruth leads with fifteen
home runs. Mantle trails in by four. Mickey Mental, Yogi Barra,
and Norm Seaburn first three men that faced Bob Rush.
The one to one pitches swung on. There's a high

(01:43:10):
fly ball to deep left field. Going over on this
ball as Wes Covington, and he's there to make the
catch for the out. Mantal, who shows tremendous power to
all parts of a playing field, tries to fairly deep
left field to Wes Covington. Covington as he moves around
in a flyball still shows a noticeable limp from his
batley damaged left knee and also from a pull muscle

(01:43:32):
in his right leg. Suffered all bout three four weeks
ago against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Yogi Bara the batter, one
out and nobody on base. Yankees lead to nothing. Parah
hitler'sened two times if that takes high around the bollop
his cat foot ball. Parah fouled out on the first
pitch two third baseman Eddie Matthews in the second and
popped out to Red Shandings in the fourth. Stocky built, strong,

(01:43:57):
left tended batter and a this call on the fastball
moving away that time on the outside corner belt high.
That's ball one and strike one. The Yankees two runs,
two hits, Milwaukee no runs, five hits. Neither team has
committed an error. It's been a great ball game out
here Yankee Stadium. Won one pitch, a swing and a
high fly ball. The short left coming in sunglasses down,

(01:44:21):
moves in now and he takes it for the out.
Parah flies to Wes Covington in left field, brings up
the left fielder norm Seburn. Seburn lied to Comington and
left in the second, and he walked in the fifth inning,
and as a matter of fact, he was one of
three men who walked in that last half of the
fifth which got five rushed and a jam power came

(01:44:41):
through the bases, loaded single the right driving in the
two Yankee runs, a left tended batter Norm Seburn slightly
closed dance that plays high up the left shoulder, takes
high all won those strikes last half of the sixth
inning and the wind up goes. Bob Rush fires away.

(01:45:10):
The curve is in there on the handle inside corner
for a call strike and it's even at one in
one ball one strike, one count, tight ball game with
New York out in front, two to nothing, Yankees trying
the battle from behind. In the third game of the series.

(01:45:32):
The pitch in there, but it's too low and it's
fall two. It's over the plate below the knees. Ball
two and a strike one count. Covington Brooton that eron
in the Braves outfield left to right, Matthews logan shady
centauri indian field that crandle catching and Bob Blush on
the mound to one pitch to Norm Seaburn is outside

(01:45:53):
ball three. So far, Manager Fred Haney has not had
to crawl on his bullpen in any of the ball
games he had rout gooing performances by Warren's Vaughn and
by Loberdett, where, on the other hand, case his thingle
has been in that bullpen a few times except for
this ballgame. This afternoon Rush is three to one pitch,

(01:46:16):
a swing and a file back on the screen. It's
a full count on Severn ball three and slike two.
The brains won't remember this youngster because a couple of
springs ago down in Milwaukee Spring training headquarters in Bradenton, Florida.
Severn did nothing all afternoon in an exhibition game, but
knocked down the fences at something like five for five,
including a couple of homers ball three and strike two.

(01:46:40):
Bob Rush comes down with a big pitch a ball
four and Severn draws his second walk, and that is
walk number five given up by five Rush, which has
been on performance this year. Unusual for Bob. One of
the walks intentional Yankees have drawn a free pass and

(01:47:02):
the walk's got rushed in a jam. On the last
half of the fifth inning. Now with two outs, Sebert
on first base. The battery is third baseman Jerry Lumpy. Lumpy,
thrown out by Matthews in the second, flied to Billy
Bruton in the fifth. So Jerry is hit. Listen two
times at beth end of the stretch Bob Rush and
the pitch she swung out and foul down the third

(01:47:22):
base line, and it's like one. Fred Haney has given
the signal to the left center field bullpen, and a big,
strong armed right hander who was born in Brooklyn, New York,
Don McMahon, starts throwing to George Susie Don McMahon and
now lives in Lancaster, Ohio. Rush stretches throws over the

(01:47:45):
first base. The shadows here at Yankee Stadium, which can
be treachers, have moved out across the mound through the
first on the left headed betting Jerry Lumpy. The Yankees
have Norm Sebran on first base with two outs. Pitch

(01:48:06):
is outside and evens up the count at ball one
and strike one, ball one, strike one count. Jerry Lumpy,
who saw action against the Blaves last year in the series,
swings it's a high foul down the third base line
over towards the stands because Eddie Matthews, I don't believe

(01:48:27):
Norphey's not going to have rum As three rows up
one and too the Count of Lumpey on DECKI is
first baseman, Bill scowern boys in blue doing the usual
fine job again this afternoon. Tom Gorman behind the plate,
John Flaherty at first, Al Parlic at second base, and
Charlie Berry at third base. Down the left be the line.
It is Bill Jakowski and down the White Fee aligned

(01:48:49):
Frank Umont, and these fellows are always thrilled in a
World Series. Assignments one into the count has the sign
from crandall the livers, and there's a swing in the
grumbled past. They mind in the center field to the
base that Severn's gonna go to the third base. Here's
a throw across the nfield. He is in there save

(01:49:09):
the third Bruton to Eddie Matthews. As severans beat the
throw and Lumpy comes up with hit number three off
five runs. A ball hopped over the mound and screwed
it between Logan and Shandy's in the center field. Lumpy
becomes the only other Yankee beside Bower two hit five runs.

(01:49:32):
Bower has two of the three hits. Lumpy just single
the center field. Now it's up to the first baseman,
Bill Scowling with teammates and first, then third and two
men out of the last half of the sixth inning
and the Yankees already leading to nothing. Scowling has been
thrown up with a pitcher on a bunch and robbed
of the base. At bite Shandy's they swinging a pole

(01:49:53):
off the end of the back lookahouse end of the
Yankee dugout moved a couple of the boys. Quick spike
would count on scolearn he hit bat pitch on the
end of his back. Sebran on third base, Jerry Lumpey
on first base, two outs, Bob rushing Trump at last

(01:50:14):
half of the sixth inning fires a swinging up pole
tip off the glove of crandall. Now the left tender
Juan Pizarro has joined Don McMahon on the Brad's bullpen
in left center field. So manager Fret Haney, who has
been all smiles nowadays, isn't smiling right now, as that

(01:50:36):
jaw said as he leans on the steps over in
the third base side, looking out of the dugout. Oh,
two pitch and a fastball. It's outside. It's one and two,
ball one, strike two. Yankee runners take their leads at

(01:51:01):
first and third base with two outs. The one and
two pitch and Scoleon swings. There's a high foul down
the left field line. This one is going to be up.
Nuff's in the lower deck and the cow remains on.
Scoleron ball one and strike two. Scoleron had some real
tough luck last year in the series, missed a few

(01:51:21):
ball games as he was out with a bad back,
But in talking to him of the batting cage this morning,
he said, the back has been thrilled good all year long.
No trouble at all. The one and two pitch, there's
a swing of the drive. The white field airins going over.
He makes the catch of a vicious line driving to
retire the side. No runs, one hit, no airs, two

(01:51:43):
Yankees left on base, and at the end of the
sixth inning, the score is New York too Milwaukee. Nothing.

Speaker 3 (01:51:52):
Hello there, everybody, I'm mel Allen with a giant offer
from paper Mate that tops them all. Listen, how would
you like a genuine paper mat pree?

Speaker 1 (01:52:01):
How'd you like a genuine paper.

Speaker 3 (01:52:02):
Make refill pree sound good, Well, that's exactly what you
get free ten pre refill when you buy paper MAT's
famous two tone ten at the regular dollar sixty nine price.
What a bargain, as it says right on the special

(01:52:25):
worth thirty nine cents, a two to fifty seven value
all pree for only a dollar sixty nine. How about
that a two fifty seven value for only a dollar
sixty nine. Look for the special paper Mat display at
stores everywhere.

Speaker 1 (01:52:39):
Buy your two tone pen at regular.

Speaker 3 (01:52:41):
Price, get an extra pen, an extra refill free from
paper Make. This sensational offer is limited, so hurry and
get your free paper Maate pen and pre refill.

Speaker 1 (01:52:51):
Now we go to the top half of the seventh
inning and the Braves fans here at Jackie Stadium are
standing up for the seventh inning stretch. The sixth inning
totals look like this. New York two runs only three
hits and no airs, Milwaukee no runs five hits and
no airs. In the seventh It might well be that

(01:53:11):
manager Fred Haney will go to a pinch batter for
the pitcher Bob Rush, as he is due to hit third,
which would mean that for the first time in the series,
Haney would have to go to his bullpen. Crambwell will
lead off. He'll be followed by Johnny Logan, and then
Bob Rush is scheduled to hit third. Cramdell has had

(01:53:35):
a rough time against Don Larson. He went down swinging
in the second and was called out on strikes in
the pourt all for two. The lights are being turned
on the Yankee Stadium. The first pitch is hanging inside
to Cramdell of all one of those strikes, not all

(01:53:58):
the light standards or all the lights have been three
nas jet just in the home plate area. As the
shadows begin to lengthen, as I mentioned in the last
half of the sixth inning, ball one of those strikes
to count on Del crandall. Don Larson fires a spike
on the outside corner, ball one and strike one. Ball one.

(01:54:20):
Spike one counts Norm Seburn in left field, Mickey Madelein
center field, and Hank Boer and right field. The Yankee
outfield Louffia third, Kubeck at short, McDougall, Thatt second base,
and Scouring at first. Larson delivers the curve is outside
ball two. Yogi Berrah behind the plate. Crandall Right hended

(01:54:43):
Better had a home run here at Yankee Stadium in
the seventh game of the series last year. Swings. It's
a line drive the left field for a good solid
base hit. Crandells thinks around first base, holds up now
a Seban throws into the short stop Tony Kuback. Crandall
comes up with him number six off Don Larson line
shot between Lumpy and Kubeck. The left field puts a

(01:55:08):
run around first base with nobody out. Harry Hannahbrink is
in the Yon deck circle. Harry Hannahbrink utility infield and outfielder,
left handed batter will swing up back for Bob Rush.
So that'll be all for Bob, who pitched a fine
three hitter. Johnny Logan, right handed batter, all for two

(01:55:29):
this afternoon Swings missus stake one. Logan filed out to
Kubec on a very fine running play down the left
field foul line in the third, and he flied out
to Seaburn in left field. In the fifth spike win
con the Braves have a run around first base. Nobody
is out. They trail to nothing top half of the
seventh time, running out Don Larson, the white hander, fires away.

(01:55:52):
The pitch is in too close on the handle, forcing
Logan to move away from the plates. Small one and
spike one. Logan, another fellow who was born and raised
in the state of New York from Endicott, quite an
all around athlete at Endicott High School, played football and
of course with an outstanding baseball player. Ball one strike

(01:56:18):
one run around first base. The pitch is a swipe
over the knees, cutting the heart of the plight one
and two, ball one and strike to the counts crandall.
With a lad out single that is on first base,

(01:56:41):
John Larson takes a deep breath, staring down at Yogi
Barah up on the rubber, goes another stretch, arms down
the one and two pitches, swinging a high flyball center field,
drifting over to his right as Mickey Manto strading his eyes.
He's there takes it. One man is out now. The
batter is Harry Hannahbrink batting for Bob Rush so bat'll

(01:57:06):
be all for Bob, who pitched a very very fine
ball game. Harry Hannahbrink this year appeared in sixty three
ball games bat at one to eighty eight, had three
doubles and four home runs, and drove in ten runs.
Hannahbrink was born and still lives in Saint Louis, Missouri.
Stands six feet weighs one hundred and eighty five pounds.

(01:57:27):
Last year, he received the Sporting News Award for the
Outstanding Defensive third Baseman of the Minor Leagues while playing
at Wichita, Milwaukee's Triple A farm club in the American Association.
So he makes his first appearance in a World Series,
Harry Hannahbrink for the run around first place. The pitch

(01:57:48):
to Harry is a curveball, the tint out side of
its bawl one. Hannah bring chucks down with a third
base coach Billy Herman all one of no strikes the
braves about him. The Yankees sixty three, but New York
leads and that very important run department two to nothing.
We're in the seventh inning at Yankee Stadium. Crandle leads

(01:58:08):
off first base with one out. The pitch high and
it's ball two two and nothing, ball two, no strikes.
The Yankees with their back to the wall, battling here
in this third game, trailing Milwaukee two victories to none.
The yonduck hitter a centerfielder Billy Bruton, who has been

(01:58:31):
kind of cooled off by Don Larson here in this
third game, run around first base. Here's the two and
old pitch, and it's a spike call on the outside corner.
Felt high. It's fall two and spike one. Hannibrink will

(01:58:51):
where's glasses now? Started the nineteen fifty eighth season I
with odd classes, but had his eyes checked in June
and found that he was nearsighted. To one pitch a
swinging a minute, going all the way round. He tried
to give that ball a ride, and it's fall two
and strike two. Boy did he go round? Ball too

(01:59:15):
and strike to the count Catcher Del crandall led off
of the sharp single. Life stayed there as Logan flied
to Mickey Mantle round towards bluff center field. And that's
where we are right now. A ball to strike to
Conon Hannah Brink one out a run around first braves
are behind to nothing. Another stretch Don Larson. The pitch

(01:59:37):
is in the dirt, nice stop by Yogi Barrye. Yogi
body blocked the ball as he put his knees together,
stopping a pitch that hit him the dirt in front
of the plate, pouncing up towards him. So it's a
full count three and two, and Barrow walked slowly out
towards the mound, talking to Don Larson, rubbing the shine
off of baseball for Don ball three and strike two.

(02:00:08):
Scarron holding Cramble on at first base. The outfield is
playing around of the right for Harry. Hannah Brink betting
for Bob Rush three two pitch a swing in a
high fly ball out behind the second base and going
back is gil mcgoggle, and he takes it for the out,
so Hannah bring fucks up the gil mcgoggles. Billy Bruton,

(02:00:46):
a Lieutenant Better who was the hottest hitter on the
Brave squad, going in the lection in this third game
with four for six, tried to bunch for the base
that it was thrown out on a very fine played
by Yogi Berra in the first inning. Walked in the
third and filed up to Jerry Lumpy down the third
base line in the fifth eleften Invider hit less than
two times at fat slow curve is high slipping off

(02:01:08):
the fingers of Don Larson. All one of those strikes
all one, no strike count on the speedster Hilly Brooton.
Larson has a sign, delivers hand outside the ball. It's

(02:01:30):
two or nothing. The redhead, Red Shandeans is on deck.
You know, some of these ball players have nicknames that
they carry all through their careers. And if you ask
a lot of the people what Red Shandean's first name was,
quite a few couldn't tell you that it was Albert
Albert Shandean's, who hails from Germantown, Illinois, but lives now

(02:01:53):
in Saint Louis, Missouri, where he started many years with
the Kitones. Cram on first thrice two men are out
and the two and oh. Pitch to Bruton is all
three are touch side, three and nothing now all three,
no strikes, all three and no strikes on Billy Bruton.

(02:02:24):
Bruten gets his bat set levels it across the plate
a couple of times watching Don Larson, Larson has to
come in him now three and all and there's all four.
He walks in and that puts phrase runners at first
and second base, brings up right Sat Dame, who has
two of the sixth hips off. Don Larson grounded out

(02:02:46):
to Scoon in the first single will that feel in
the third and a perfectly executed hit and run or
if you wish run and hit and he single the
white feel in the sixth inning. That walk is the
third issued by Don Larson. Once again, Milwaukee has the
tying runs on base, only this time they're up there

(02:03:07):
with two outs. Cramble on second base, Rooton on first base.
A left ten at vat of Red Shandings takes pack
one of the upside corners just below the runners, and
Red did not like the call. He's out of the
batter's box, gun telling Tom Gorman all about it. Very
seldom there's Red to good Rile up there at the plate.
He's one of those hitters who's tough to work on

(02:03:27):
because he crowds home play, stand's right over the play,
then chokes up quite a bit on the bat handle.
No ball wants quite out heat close together. Unners lead
off first and second with two outs. Parson delivers. There's

(02:03:49):
a swing and a five ball in the center field.
Nickey Mantle's going around should make the play he does,
and let me tires aside. In the eighth no runs,
one hit, no airs, two left, and the score is
New York too, and the lacke nothing well that Phil
Scarwan and the Yankees has tremendous raw power. In the

(02:04:09):
sixth inning, he lined a vicious shot to Aaron with
a couple of Yankees on base that was caught by
Henry retiring the side. Most Skylon made a special recording
for us down on the Yankee Clubhouse. Let's hear it
now the most speaking, it's only one way to get
a decent shape.

Speaker 9 (02:04:25):
That's what a Gellette blade and a Gellett razor.

(02:04:50):
It's the shaving bargain of the year, whether you're a

save money and get wonderfully refreshing show good looking queen
feeling shaves that laughed and last at the low price
of just seventy nine cents. But you let TV rasor

(02:05:11):

seconds for station identification.

Speaker 7 (02:05:26):

Speaker 1 (02:05:58):
Don McMahon is up them out now for the Milwaukee Braves.
Strong right hander's ten six too ates two hundred and
twenty five pounds. He was born in Brooklyn, New York,
now lives in Lancaster, Ohio. McMahon is twenty eight years
old and this year for the Milwaukee Braves, McMahon appeared
in thirty eight ball games, won seven and lost two,

(02:06:22):
and had an earned run average of three points sixty six.
The Yankees saw him in three ball games last year.
McMahon worked five innings, gave up three hits, no runs,
walked three, and he struck out five and had an
earned run average of zero. So he goes to work
on the last half of the seventh, replacing Bob Rush,
who pitched the beauty. Bob worked six innings, giving up

(02:06:42):
two runs, only three hits, walked five, and those walks
got him in the gym in the last half of
the fifth when the Yankee scored their two runs and
he struck out two. So Don McMahon goes to work
on Jill McDougall, who takes a fast ball high and
it's Paul. One of those strikes McDougall was tossed out
by Rush, and the third intentionally walked in the fifth.

(02:07:08):
New baseball is handed to Del Trandle by umpire Tom Gorman.
Yankees out in front to nothing in the last half
of the seventh, and New York will send up Gill mcgoggald.
Don Larson should get a wonderful ovation for the fine
job he has turned in so far. And then the
lead off man, right fielder Hank Bauer, right handed batter,
Gill mcgoggold. Don McMahon delivers on a stickness call in

(02:07:30):
his fastball in the trade. You say, this guy has
a good hummer. His fastball moves around, jumps quite a bit,
All one and strike one. I feel his shading McDougall
a little towards left. He swings miss the slick two
one into the count. All one and strike two. Don

(02:07:57):
has slowed down quite a bit, beats touches over the
last couple of years. Used to be just say, give
me that baseball, and he throw there's a curved way
outside of swing in a mess five, Jill McDougall. That
pitch worth five feet away from McDougall. He was really fools.
Spake out number one for Don McMahon, a pitch that

(02:08:19):
was way why at the play the McDougall had made
up his mind before the pitch came in. There, boy,
he was pulled on a baking pitch and a thing's up,
Don Rather, Now we're going to get a pitch batter
for Don Larson. Here is INA's Country Slaughter Slaughter, forty

(02:08:39):
two year old veteran Aina Slaughter, making his second appearance
in the series, is own for one. A lietenant batter
in the first pitch is in close the ball, so
that'll be all for Don Larson. As Casey Stangle is

(02:09:01):
going to his bullpen in the eighth in his country,
Slaughter takes the ball a high and it's fall two
in those strikes. Slaughter, who hails from Roxboro, North Carolina,
five to nine and eighty eight pound veteran forty two

(02:09:22):
years old, has seen brigand action in both the National
and the American League. One out of nobody on base
two an Old pitches too high all three and we'll
get another Yankee pitcher in the top half of the
eighth innings. So for the third straight ball game, Casey
Stangle goes to his bullpen. Yankees are leading to nothing.

(02:09:46):
Here is the winged up and the pitches bath four.
Slaughter gets the walk on four pitches. First walk given
up by Don McMahon, and the sixth walk issue to
the Yankee batters white feeler head Collar, who has two

(02:10:12):
of the three hips in the batter's box. He single
home the Yankee runs with a looping flyball the short
right feeling the fifth the base is loaded, singles single
diag short on the first take time at fall one.
He popped out to Tory. In the fourth inning, the
Yankees have Slaughter on first base. It might well be

(02:10:35):
that Don Larson was tiring, because it's been a long
time since Don went the distance. As a matter of fact,
the last time he pitched a complete ball game was
on July the sixteenth. He has been bothered this year
by a shoulder and also a bad elbow. There is
a ball that's too low and it's two or nothing,

(02:10:55):
and that's six great falls thrown by Don McMahon, ball
to no strikes. Right hender Ernie Johnson is now loosening
up on the brave bullpen and left center field, there's

(02:11:16):
a swing in a fall winner was going country. Slaughter
off with the pitch moved back in the first base
as Bower got a piece of that ball, falling it off.
So the Yankees employed they hit and running at the
ball too and strike one. Ralph Hawk coaching in first base,

(02:11:39):
yell something new Slaughter who's on first. Yankees lead to nothing.
Last half of the seven here's a throne of first.
Then Enus goes back on his stomach, that time diving
back in head first, driving the bag with his hands.
One man is out slaughter on first base. Hank Bower
right handed Bier the two to one pitch board swings

(02:12:00):
to the drive back and the little pail left ball
is a long way back toward the ware. Come up,

(02:12:24):
Hank Baller, well the from my next blast from up
to the four on till mark what I mean? He
really tagged one a two run home out of the
Yankees laid four to nothing, and Barr has three of
the Yankees four bays and four runs batted in. Kumbak
takes paint up Tina's bull one on Tony's a trom

(02:12:47):
Monday's blast from bat of Hank Bamer his paired home
out of the series. One of old punches swing im
as a fly ball, the short left digging is west coming.
Then he's stopped, makes the catch and of two away.
So Kubeck now is all for four and all three
eleven in the series. Two run home run my hang

(02:13:13):
fire and the Yankees now have a four to nothing lead,
and that for Bower in World Series play is his
sixth home run touch that Nicky Mantali is hanging inside.
He goes down hostball hanging inside him. Nickey Mantle was
first the hippodert Paul one of those strikes. Two men

(02:13:41):
are out of nobody on base past. Ball is high
and it's ball two and those strikes. Walks have hurt
the Braves today. Three walks in the fifth and a
bass a lot of singles God the first two runs
pitch is hide as fall three on Mickey Mantle, who
has sluckouts, walked and fly the left. He has hit

(02:14:03):
us and two trips. Nickey in the series has two
base hits, both homers in eight times at bat, hitting
a two fifty left headed batter three and zero pitch
ball four and that is walk number two given up
by Don McMahon. The Yankees were not able to score

(02:14:30):
off McMahon last year in three ball games in the theory,
but they jumped on him here or two runs on
the last half of the seven, giving New York a
poorn nothing. League four and the Yankees have made good
use of their hits. They have four hits, four runs,
all four runs driven in by the veteran right fielder
Hank Bauer. The batter is Joki Barrah and Barrat take

(02:14:53):
fall one inside and Doohn. McMahon has had nothing but
trouble with his control here in the last half of
the seven Barah has falled out to the third baseman,
popped to the second baseman, and he has flied to
Covington and left all for th wait for Yogi. He
now has two hits and eleven times at bad in
the series. All one of those strikes. He's right around

(02:15:18):
first bage. Here's a thrown the first and Mickey just
got back in time. Ernie Johnson continues throwing in the
bradies bullpen. Here's the one and old pitch and it's
hit out for the plate picked up by mcmahony takes
Yogi Barah. Yogi at that time trying to fall away

(02:15:38):
from the pitch. Well, hit is bad, and let's see.
Now there's a discussion going on here. The first base
on fire might to call the play differently than Tom Gorman,
and Gorman is arguing he called the play a fair ball.
As Barah fell away from the pitch, the ball hit
his bat, rolled out and fellow plate. He was taked
out by Don McMahon as Casey Singer, who's out to

(02:16:01):
talk to Tom Garman. But that's it. And the last
half of the seventh two runs score on just one hit,
two run home run by power, no errors, and one
man was left dun base. At the end of the
seven hitting, the score is though you aren't four and
Milwaukee nothing. Do you do you want? Do you really

(02:16:23):
want a decent shame? Do you really want a decent
shaven shame? Shame? With that razor by shame, we are
getting a new picture now for the New York Yankees.

(02:16:44):
That'll be all for Don Larson. He was looking for
a finch spatter. This is Ryan Old Duran, who was
the loser in the first ball game at Milwaukee four
to three. In the tenthony Ryan Old Durran Don Larson
worked seven brilliant today, no runs. He was tied for
six hits, but spread him out real well, gave up

(02:17:10):
three walks, and he tied Whitey Forward for the high
strikeout total so far in the series, eight full pet
eight strikeouts and seven innings. Now Here is ryanld Duran,
fastballing right hander from Cazanoviia, Wisconsin, Durham for the Yankees

(02:17:33):
during the regular season had six wins and forty feats,
but an earned run average of two point zero one.
He is funny, tough, especially here in the shadows of
Yankee Stadium, with that blinding speed. Ranald Duran in the
first ball game last Wednesday at Milwaukee County Stadium, worked

(02:17:55):
two and two thirds innings, gave up one run on
four it's walked one and struck out. We have a
change at third base. Bobby Richardson is replacing Jerry Lumpy.
Bobby Richardson after third, He'll bet him the number six
spot in place at Lumpy and I'm the man it

(02:18:19):
is Reinolds Duran. Sarl Duran is expected to hold the
Braves in the eighth m nie as the Yankees have
built up a four nothing lead leading off his third baseman,
Eddie Matthews, who has struck out three times in a
row and seven times in three ballgames. Matthews, Aaron and

(02:18:41):
Covington will be the first three month of base Ryinold Duran,
who is called upon to protect this for nothing lead
given to the Yankees by a great veteran Hank Bower.
Teddy Matthews, a Lieutenant butter. The outfield is playing around

(02:19:03):
the right. Durrant makes his second appearance in the series,
and we have a new third baseman and Bobby richardson
basketball is in there a quote strike one, nobody on
basing nobody out flanks fighting in the eighth bates trail

(02:19:25):
four to nothing. Durrance moves up the dirt in front
of the rubber, pulls at his cap, looks down for
a sign no ball wants fight. Count There's a swing
on the rest and it's quick. Two on Matthews like

(02:19:49):
two counts. The Yankees score two of them, fifth added
two more in the seven. The bris of them blank
for seven of the thing's bite. Don Larson, now working
for Casey Raynald Duran Haddie Matthews in the hole, let's
strike two counts. Outfield plays that around the right second

(02:20:09):
baseman McDougall is playing deep, a step back on the
outfield grass, scowling deep at first base. The wind up
in the only two pitch, a swinger fall back into
the second deck and it's a spike too common Matthews.
Matthews now in three ball games, has been up eleven

(02:20:30):
times and he has two hits. Has driven in two
of Milwaukee's runs in the series. But he has struck
out seven times. I'll be eleven times. He has space
Yankee pitchers. He's behind on Ryanald Duran Spike two counts

(02:20:54):
during Shake's office sign. Here's a swinger fall and a
curveball that's up into the third deck behind the plate,
and it's still strike two. The Yankees four runs on
four hits, Milwaukee no runs and six hits. Neither team
has committed an error. Both teams have gone to the
bullpen saw neither starters around Don Larson or Bob Rush.

(02:21:18):
Both pitch mighty find baseball, with Larson getting the edge,
shutting out the Braves in the first seven innings, Brush
getting up two runs on three hits in the first
six innings. Darren shakes off his time by wiggling his glove,
gets when he likes h two pitch and it's high
with the fastball one and two, ball one and strike two.

(02:21:40):
The Braves this year have been known as they come
from behind ball club, and they're facing quite a task here,
a real uphill battle as they trail by four and
late in the ball game in the top of the eighth,
facing one of the top reliefs stars in baseball today,
Royonald Durhan, Ball one, strike two. Matthew steps out of

(02:22:05):
about his boxes door and steps back off the rubber
one into the count. There's the pitch and it's flowing.
His side comes back to the screen, getting away from
Yogi Bara even as the count at ball too and
strike two, balls, strike two. Eddie Matthews is leading off

(02:22:38):
here in the top half of the eighth inning. Ryan
o'duran six feet one and a half inches tall. He
weighs a hundred ninety five pounds, taking plenty of time

(02:23:03):
between pitches to two pitch our swinger fall as Matthews
continues to hang tough in the batter's block, just getting
a piece of that fastball two and two. This goes
back a long time, but I can remember when during
broke in the organized baseball back in nineteen forty nine
with the Warsaw Ball Club in the old Wisconsin State League.
And then he was just a youngster, of course, and

(02:23:24):
he was really firing. And that was in Class D baseball,
and some of those lights in Class D a pretty tough,
and he was a real tough kind of base ball
two strike two, pitches high and it's ball three, full
count on the brave third baseman Eddie Matthews leading off
in the eighth inning, Ball three, swike two, Aaron on deck,

(02:23:46):
and Aaron will be followed by Wes Covington. Yankees fighting
back here. In the third game, they trailed Milwaukee two
games to none. Durrance stretch his motion, pitches a ball
four Matthews watts and that is walk number one given
up by Duran and the fourth walk issued by Yankee.

(02:24:08):
Pitching a run around first base, and nobody is out.
Henry Aaron the batter. Henry struck out in the second,
plied the short left field in the fourth, and he
walked in the sixth. Now Aaron goes into this game

(02:24:29):
with a nine game hitting streak, so he is trying
to extend that in the World Series action. He has
it safely in all World Series games in which he
has played. I plave for getting action. Now in the
Yankee bullpen, runner ond first base, nobody is out, and

(02:24:52):
the pitch to Henry Eron I swinging a fly on
the right field, playing back towards the wall and in
the range. Now is Forwerd to make the cat. Aaron
flies to follower in deep white field, not far from
the fence and that's one out. Aaron hitlers in three
official trips, and it brings up the left field or
Wes Covington. Wes hit a shot off the glove of

(02:25:15):
Phil Scaren from Bay Cinema sixth inning, fled to deep
left center field of the fourth thening the Mickey metal
and popped out to Jerry Lumpy at third base in
the second. Now it's Bobby Richardson guarding third base for
casey single run around first. One man is out and

(02:25:36):
Covington steps out of the batter's box his hands for firing,
reaches down for a handful of dirts, digs in with
the left foot, feet close together, goes into a crowd,
spending of the waist, bat poise high off the left shoulder, swings,
falls and back into the screens like one West went

(02:25:56):
down after he cut that ball, I whipped the bat
left knee, that is the knee in which he must
hit off of. And sometimes when he swings at a
pitch and just fouls that and misses the ball completely,
he has trouble with the left knee as he doesn't
like defended too much. Whereas a brace on the left

(02:26:17):
knee strikeland cown Addie Matthews at first base. One man
is out in the eighth Yankees lead point nothing during
the next pitch is high and it's Paul one and
strike one. Paul one in a spike one cown on
the Braves left field or West. Covington playing in his

(02:26:40):
second World Series, and he's one of the main reasons
the Braves are peering in the World Series action a
lot of power, ball one in a spike one count
New York Southfield is playing Comington around the right. The
pitch is high, West was greenest Lingold managed to hold back,

(02:27:02):
and it's ball too and strike one, Ball two and
a spike one count two one the counts. The Braves
have not been shut out by Yankee pitching in a
World Series in any of the seven games last year,

(02:27:23):
nor the first two their season. But they're truly now
here's a swinging of us. A mighty cut by Covington
Even's account at ball two, strike two, ball two and
a strike two count. On the other hand, the Yankees
are blank twice last year, both times by a luberdet

(02:27:49):
Neither team has been shut out so far in this
nineteen fifty eight World Series. Braves are betting in the
eighth and they have not score their trailing four nothing
but two to two pitch and it's ball three outside,
so it's a full count on West Covington. Ball three
and strike two, and now Duran has to be careful

(02:28:12):
with the three and two pitch. Can they get too
good of this Cower hitter? But he wants to get
him out of there. Frank Tory is due to hit next,
Ball three and strike two. Eddie Matthews strunner on first base,
one man is out. Durrant has the sign three to

(02:28:34):
two pitch a swing at a high fall coming back
out of play, and it's still three and two. Ball
three and strike two on Covington. Johnny Fitzpatrick pacing up
and down in the first base coaching box. Yankees four

(02:28:55):
runs on four hits, Milwaukee no runs in six hits.
The Braves have got Matthew's on first base, reached first
base on a walk by Duran. Aaron fly to right field,
so there is one away three to two pitch all
four and Comington walks. Two walks given up by Duran,

(02:29:17):
brings up Frank Tory. Tory, who has two hits in
three times at bat, has single a center field twice
and has flied to baller in right field of sixth inning.
So now in the series, Torry has hit safely three
times in nine trips betting. In three thirty three, a

(02:29:39):
leftenant Better whose front foot is right foot, is up
very close to the plate, closed dance runners on first
and second base. One man is out, he takes fall one.
It's outside and Duran is having a little trouble with
that control, which is so important, especially here in the
latter stages of the ball game. Yankees have a four

(02:30:02):
nothing lead, but when you follow a ball club all
season long, complexions of ball games can change. In a
hurry ball one and no strikes. Here's a swing in
a high fly ball right center field. Mickey Mantle coasting
to his left under the ball and he makes the

(02:30:23):
catch for the up. That's two way as Tory flies
to mental around Tory's white center field brings up the
catcher del Crandall Crandall struck out in the second colrad
On strikes from the fourth single to left field of
the seventh inning for the last base hit off Don Larson. Larson,

(02:30:45):
who works seven innings, allowing no run, six hits, on
three and he struck out eight and a left tender
twenty one year old south Paul je Pizarro begins loosening
up in the bullpen for the Braves. Crandall right headed better.
With runners on first and second base, two men are out.

(02:31:07):
Dale takes the first pitch over the plate, but low
and its fall one of those strikes. Johnny Logan with
his batting helmet, moving up towards the endeck circle ball
won no strikedown on Cramdell during the next pitch, A

(02:31:31):
swing in a high fowl, Yogi Bara digging back, fight
have a chance. He's racing back towards the fence, Andy
con He grabbed the ball and dropped it, and there's
a tough wake for the Yankees. As joking, Bara made
a fighting try, racing back to the screen. He crashed
into the screen just as he caught the ball and
he dropped it. A great try, A great catcher, Yogi

(02:31:54):
Barrah Boy, he was really digging back for the screen,
and just as he grabbed that bar he bounced against
the net, closing control of the baseball. It dropped out
of his glove. He will not be charged with an error.
There's a break for Milwaukee and the Connah's even on
Del Crandell Ball one and slike one. Crandell gets a

(02:32:17):
life up there at home plate with two outs, and
teammates at first and second base pitches in two close
backs them away and at fall two, ball too and
strike one. Rynald Duran past falling right hander taking a

(02:32:41):
lot of time, straddles the rubber as he looks down
at Yogi Barah and Dhim Matthews on second base. We's
coming to on first base. Two outs, here's the two
to one pitch. There's a swing of a fall up
into the upper deck. Connah's even ball two and slike two. Well,
as you look around, we know there's a lot of
photographers of course out here filming the series. And incidentally,

(02:33:05):
Luke Fonciku, who does a very fine job on the
World Series film which is used by people all across
our nation, let me know before the ball game today
the this year the World Series film will be in
color for the first time in the history of any
World Series film. So that should be something you folks
should look for in your neighborhoods across the nation when

(02:33:26):
it's available. All to and strike two on crandall the
pitch to Dell high inside gets away from the catcher.
Winners are going in a second and third vice high
inside fastballer took off head off the glove of Yogi
Barah and at three and two with runner's on second
and third, and that's going to be scored as a

(02:33:48):
wild pitch. Times to Ronald Duran, a wild pitch and
that fastball took off rising on Yogi Bara hit off
his glove, roll behind the plate. Matthew is going to
third base, coming in a second. Matthews was a little
hesitant about going to third because the Braves are crediting

(02:34:08):
by four and he wanted to make sure that ball
was deep enough behind the plate that he wouldn't have
any trouble making third base. Three to two pitch, I'll
swing and a grandball to the short stop picked up
by Tony Kuback, the thronal first base. He is not
retiring the side of the eighth. No runs, no hits,
no errors, two men left dun vates, and the score

(02:34:29):
remains the New York Yankee four and Milwaukee nothing. Well.
Red shandines the Braves is quite a busy ballplayer besides
playing and in this world series. He's reporting the world
series been shade of newspapers. Well, I've got news for
your red head. That's right from the shaving headquarters of
the world. News that I know you're going to enjoy,

(02:34:50):
because the grand Slam bargain of the year is Jellette's
World Series special, the Gelett one ts TV razor for
just seventy nine cents. At that price, it's really news.
Seventy nine cents and you get en up to the
minute Gelette TV raizer, a dispenser of Gelllett blue blades
and a handy travel case, and you get years and

(02:35:11):
years of clean, comfortable shaves. Quick shaves too. One piece
construction means lightning fast blade changing and rinsing and double edges.
Save your money on blades. Now the time to retire
that old razor of yours. Take advantage of this barking price.
That's your seventy nine cents. The supply of Gelett TV

(02:35:32):
raisers is going fast. If you wait, you may be late.
A standing ovation right down below us now, as White Kavanilla,
one of the great catchers in the history of baseball.

(02:35:53):
That a fellow has been a lot of action in
a world series with the Brooklyn Dodgers is now being
help from his box seat and is leaving the ballpark.
Roy Kappanella. Roy is given his accident a great fight,

(02:36:17):
and we're going into the last half of the eighth inning.
Out here now at Yankee Stadium, as Norm Seaburn leads on,
here is the pitch and there's a ball. The attendance
is seventy one thousand, five hundred and ninety nine. A
wonderful crowd at Yankee Stadium, seventy one thousand, five hundred

(02:36:42):
ninety nine, and they bought the Yankees score twice in
the ball game, two runs in the fifth, two and
the seventh for a port nothing lead. Sebran takes McMahon
pitched high and it's fall two strikes a Norm Sebran,
who has by the left field walked in the fifth

(02:37:04):
and walked in the sixth. Here's a strike and it's
two and one, All two and strike one the pitch
and Sebran takes Hive all three, three in one on
Norm all three and strike one on deck is third

(02:37:32):
baseman Bobby Richardson. There's a swing of a broken bat
of ground ball of the second base and picked up
by shaandings all but the first he is out, and
something very unusual just happened as Severan hit that ball
on the handle. It was a handle pitched the bat
snapped off right where the ball hit and the barrel
end of the bat, the money end, the business end,

(02:37:53):
came back and hit up fire Tom Gorman. Gorman's chacking
it off behind the pip. That's one of why Shandy's
the tory on Norm sever And brings up Bobby Richardson,
the third baseman up for the first time out this afternoon.
A little guy takes a ball. It's flowing outside ball
one of no strikes. Bobby Richardson, but up once has

(02:38:20):
no hits in the series. Right ended batter takes high
and it's fall two two or nothing. Richardson stands five
feet nine, weighs one hundred and sixty four pounds. He's
only twenty three years old, tails from Sumter, South Carolina,
and he looks at a spike. It's called it's ball
two and slike one. Bobby Richardson batting with one out

(02:38:43):
of nobody on base, Yankees out in the front four
nothing last half of the eighth inning. McMahon's next pitch
is swung on a heart at falls as Shandy swapped
up Tuter for play over the first peas on Hunter's
first play by Shandy's well, the ald redhead, now thirty

(02:39:05):
five years old, shows he can still move up there
at second base. So that great planer was left his
second pipe through today. And some fan now has moved
out in the center field. Some fan has moved out
and his talking with Billy Bruton in center the empire's
looking for some of the pipe police. And now he

(02:39:27):
has left Bruton and Son and is going over to
Aaron and right from young baseball fan came out of
the stands and is over talking to Henry Aaron in
right field. And finally out of the Yankee bullpen comes

(02:39:47):
one of New York's plainers, policeman Opers has come on Son,
let's get out of here. Now that's a ball game.
Two outs, nobody on base, Bill Scolon. The Scolin has
nothing for three. He was robbed by shandeans On, another
great player that was left in the fifth inning, and

(02:40:07):
then he lined out to Aaron and whitefield of the
sixth inning right headed better. Don McMahon looks him over
and fires the first pitch in too close. Ball one,
mall one of those strikes the cons Here is ball two,

(02:40:30):
it's flowing outside and it's two and nothing on Scolen
off field, playing Bill a little bit towards left field.
Scorn Viting with two outs and nobody on base, I
know you are cleaning Milwaukee for nothing. In the third
game of the series tomorrow, it'll be Warren Fun against
Whitey Board. Here's a swinging on this and a curve

(02:40:53):
on It's two and one, the same two pitchers who
have the honor of opening up the series last Wednesday
at Milwaukee County Stadium. Fun against Whitey Ford. Curve Swick
two is called on scouring. It's even a two and two.
Frank Crossetti talking it up in the third base coaching
box ball to strike two. There's a swinging a vest

(02:41:18):
and Scoleon slikes out. That is strike out number two
for Don McMahon, and the Yankees are three up and
three down to the last half of the eighth no runs,
no hits, no airs, nobody left, Don Vase, and at
the end of the eighth inning the score is New
York four Milwaukee nothing. Get George Gilts Razor June. This

(02:41:47):
man bought a bye and let's tell you it's in
short supply. So her Reinngags get George gets Razors, so
get one past, be lucky, just seventy.

Speaker 7 (02:42:08):
Instead.

Speaker 1 (02:42:16):
In the ninth inning, Milwaukee's last chance as the Yankees
lead by four big runs poorn to nothing, They'll send
up Johnny Logan, a pinch spotter for John McMahon. Looks
like Katy Wise will make his first appearance in the
World Series. Utilla, the infielder who began his Major league
career with the Chicago Cups. Kasey Wise moving up towards

(02:42:39):
the Onzeck circle, so he wrote back for McMahon and
then the top of the btting owner Billy Bruton, Ryan
od Durrant firing down to Yogi Barra. Barrow, who likes
to talk to the opposing players, has Johnny Logan smiling
as he stepped into the batter's box, very quick with
the ad lib. Sometimes I'd like to just be around

(02:43:02):
home plate to hear you'll the end are the conversations
he gets in with opposing ball players. Logan today has
been hitless and three times at fat he has falled
up with the short stop down the left field line,
fly to the left field, and fly to center field.
A right handed batter who now has two hits and
eleven times at bat in the series, past ball in

(02:43:23):
his hands, signing it's ball one. Of those strikes ball one,
no strikes. The counts. The outfield is shaded around towards left.
The first baseman, Bill Sclon, has moved in a couple
of steps about half way at first, while the second
base of McDougall is playing deep. He's on the edge

(02:43:45):
of the grass in the outfield. Fast fake is called.
It's ball one and strike one. Brave was playing for
Senate Jeer Logan was taking on that pitch, making Durham
come in with a strike. It's fall one, a strike one.
Nobody on base out last chance in Milwaukee, and they
trailed by four for nothing. Yankees Lee ninth and he

(02:44:11):
Logan standing deep in the battery's box, crouching over takes
ball two outside two and one. Duran came out of
the eighth inning for Don Larson, who has lifted for
a pinch pattern in the last half of the seventh.
He walked to Brave pitters but got him out of
there without any trouble, and now he's working in the

(02:44:34):
nine two one pitch to Johnny Logan, Paul three. It's
highting and siding at three and one. Casey's single, no
doubt has action in the bullpen. But here at Yankee Stadium,
you can't spot anybody in the Yankee bullpen. And you
just catch a glimpse of the brave bullpen and de
plus center field. The Yankee bullpen is in white center.

(02:44:57):
All three and strike one on Johnny Logan, who looked
down a third base coach Gillie Herman, see if the
green light was on ball three and a strike one count.
Here's the pitch, and they striked us right down the alley.
It's ball three and spike two. Ball three and a

(02:45:20):
spike two counts. Braves partisans are remembering the first inning
of Thursday's ball game, the second game, when Milwaukee scored
seven runs, hoping the Braves can come up with four.
But it's quite a task against the guy like Ranald Durran.
Free two pitch, all four. There's a start of the

(02:45:42):
ninth and name four Milwaukee, and that is the third
walk issued by Durhan. And here is Casey Wise, a sweatshutter.
You tell the infielder who has played at shorts and
that second base for manager Fret Haney. In the nineteen

(02:46:02):
fifty eight National League season, Casey Wise appeared in thirty
one ball games for the Braves. Spent some time at
Wichita on the American Association. Was up seventy one times,
had fourteen hits, one double bet of one ninety seven,
Wise betting leftenant against the right hander. With the run

(02:46:27):
around first base and nobody out. The pitch to Casey,
and here is ball one at outside. Casey Wise, whose
father is a scout by the way in the Milwaukee system,
lives in Saint Petersburg, Florida, which happens to be the
Yankees spring training base, was born in Lafiant, Indiana. Run

(02:46:49):
around first base, nobody is out, and spike one is
called in the outside corner. Felt highs even up at
ball one and spike one ball one and the strike
one cown Casey, now twenty six years old, close dance

(02:47:14):
watching Roynald Durham, but one one pitches fight to call
outside cart any high on It's one and two, ball
one and strike to the counts the Yankees leading for nothing.
Top of the ninth Logan on first base walk leading

(02:47:37):
off there in the ninth inning on first base for
the first time this afternoon. Casey wise behind must guard
that flight ball one and strike two. Here's the pitch
and it's ball two high, it outside. It's even up
now on Casey, ball two, strike two, fall to in

(02:48:00):
a strike two counts. Ryan Old Durhan, taking his time,
has walked one man Logan on first Nobody out two
to two pitches swinging a mess. He struck him out
taveras strike out number one for Durham, and it brings

(02:48:22):
up the center field of Bhilly Bruton. Duran and two
and two thirds innings last Wednesday at Milwaukee struck out
five hitters and that is the ninth brave to go
down on strikes today, as Larson had eight strikeouts in
seven innings. Billy Bruton hit less than two official times.
If Batty's been on base twice, he's walked twice. In

(02:48:44):
the third and the seventh, both walks off Larsen thrown
off by Para on an attempted bottom of the first.
Then he falls out to the third basement. In the fifth,
Lieutenant Vatter, who takes a swike. Ryan Old Durhan remembers
Billy Bruton, as was Billy who broke up the ballgame
in the first game of the series in the tenth
inning with a single off during sending home the winning

(02:49:07):
run of the Blaves at New York quarter three. The
right hander delivers high and outside with his back ball,
evens it up at ball one and strike one. A
low hit ball game out here this afternoon. The Yankees
have four hits, but four runs, all four runs driven
in by Hank Bower. Two on a home run, you

(02:49:28):
have a two on a base's loaded single. The Braves
have six hits. They ran themselves out of an inning
in the sixth inning when they had a chance to score,
and then a man trapped off third base. Ball one
and strike one. The pitch is swung on a high
fall on the third base side. It's full one and
strike two. One into the count on Billy Bruten Pon

(02:49:55):
deck is Red Schendings, who has been one of the
defensive stars in this third game, with two really great
plays at second base logan on first one outs. Here's
the one and two pitch. There's a swing of the

(02:50:17):
gravel back to the mound to pick the second base
out over the first base double playing the ball game
of over the Yankee fucking off their first double play
of the world Surrey and the ball game of the night.
No runs, no hits, no errors, nobody left. John Basse
have a final scorer New York four runs, four hits,

(02:50:40):
no errors, Milwaukee no run, six hits and no errors.
And in just a moment we review the highlights of
Pray's game for you.

Speaker 1 (02:51:55):
The New York Yankees have projected themselves squarely back into
the Series classic, now trailing two games to one here
in the nineteen fifty eight World Series, and as this
huge crowd of over seventy one thousand leagues Yankee Stadium
speaking about the Yankee win, undoubtedly there are two names
which are causing a great deal of conversation. One Hank Bauer,

(02:52:16):
as the vet run out field today not only hit
safely in seventeen's Great Games, but also came up with
three of the New York Yankee four hits on all
four of their runs battled in. Bauer now has seven
hits and thirteen trips in the series for five to
thirty eight average. He is three homers and three games
in the World Series seven RBIs and today drove in

(02:52:38):
all of the New York Yankee runs and therefore nothing
win Hank in the field. This is the misfortunately picked
off base twice in the series. He had a difficult
fielding chance as Aaron put one up against the offense
in Milwaukee and Shandeans bounced one by him for a
two bagger. However, Hank has always seen to bounce back,
and on the pressure of the series he is emerged

(02:53:00):
as a big hitting star. So Hank Bauer gets a
salute from the New York Yankee fans for his clutch
performance to the safternoons the other big name, Don Larson
for Don to day. It was certainly not a perfect game,
but as far as the Yankee fans were concerned, it
was perfect enough. Larson, it was out from the middle
of July when he pitched his last complete game into

(02:53:22):
the middle of September. Wasn't even on the first list
of Yankee World Series eligibles, but he finally made it
in the last day of the season, and Larson today
picked up his third series victory against but two defeats.
He went seven shot innings, he gave up six hits
and three walks. At evidence that he was tiring, he
yielded three hits and two walks in his last two winnings.

(02:53:43):
He fanned eight but none in his last two winnings
in the mound. He was backed up by Ryan Duran,
who was a bit wild but certainly effective and came
back after his early performance for a great performance. The
soaffternoon So the Yankee pitching and the Yankee bat of
Hank Bauer with the big topics for the New York
Yankee fans this afternoon, but certainly the Brave fans and

(02:54:05):
a lot to be thankful about in the great performance
by Bob Rush, who pitched six innings in his series debut.
The only factor that hurt Bob to day was his
lack of control. He gave only three hits in the
six innings and the five walks that he allowed. Three
came in the fifth and that set the stage for
bowers two run single which fell just in front of

(02:54:26):
Aaron in right field, and then a walk to Slaughter
by McMahon also led to a Bower blast that home
run which came up there in the seventh. But it
was a five performance by Rush, who was backed up
effectively by McMahon in the ball game. Now, as far
as the individual plays during the game, perhaps the key

(02:54:46):
play as far as Milwaukee was concerned, is one that
will be highly debated for many days to come. That
came in the sixth inning with men on first and
second and one out, and it was a rundown play
in which the ball was hit by Comington off the
glove of the first baseman. Scourn Shandan's started to come
in after rounding third of the plate, he suddenly put
on the brake safter coming up the line a third

(02:55:08):
of the way of more and he dashed back toward third. Meanwhile,
Scaron had thrown home and on the ensuing rundown, the
ball was thrown back toward the plate by Lumpy. It
got by Yoki Barra, but Larson backed up nicely on
The tag was finally made on a three two five
one play and that eliminated the big scoring opportunity for

(02:55:29):
the Milwaukee Braves. There are also some other fine plays
by Milwaukee, including two sparks by Red Chante.

Speaker 2 (02:55:35):
East.

Speaker 1 (02:55:36):
Well, that's the story today and tomorrow it's Whitey Ford
against Warren Spawn. As the series continues, and we're looking
forward to more thrills and excitement tomorrow. Afternoon tomorrow, be
sure to tune in for the fourth game of the
World Series will be on the air at one forty
five Eastern daylight time. Our thanks to our NBC engineer
Harry Alexander, our statistician heard Head. This cast was produced

(02:56:01):
by NBC Sports editor Paul Jonas on Now for Earl
Gillespian myself. This is Bob Wolf saying smooth sailing smooth
shaping and good afternoon for the Gellette Safety Razor Company.
