the express consent of the Commissioner is prohibited. It's been
a long time in Chicago at Kamiski Park, forty years,

(02:11):
a long wait, and White Sox fans are just as
excited as they could possibly be over the dramatic tennant
victory of Al Lopez men. And what could be more
dramatic than the Los Angeles Dodgers coming from seventh place
last year, going into a playoff winning it in too

(02:34):
straight and suddenly here we are opening up the World
Series a day later than scheduled because of the playoffs,
and under perfect weather sixty four degrees with a wind
coming from the northwest at eight miles per hour. This
is known generally as a pitchers ballpark because as a rule,

(02:55):
the wind blows in, and today it is doing just that.
Once in a while the wind will shift, but it
is blowing in today. And speaking of the pitchers, as advertised,
the great early win for the Chicago White Sox and
the young man who finished sensationally after coming back to

(03:16):
the Dodgers from the miners, Roger Craig. The Dodgers did
not even work out here yesterday. They were tired. Manager
Wal Awston said, get some rest, boys, And so they
saw Comiskey Park today for the first time as they
came out to take their practice. The Empires are coming out,
and we're going to give you the lineups for the

(03:37):
opening game of the World Series for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Jim Gilliam leading off third base, Charlie Neil second base,
Wally Moon left field, Duke Snyder center field, Norm Marker

(04:01):
right field, Gil Hodges first base, Johnny Roseboro catching, Mary
Wills shortstop, Roger Craig pitching for the Chicago White Sox,
Louis Aparicio shortstop, Nelly Fox second base, Jim Landis center field.

(04:29):
Ted Pluzuski, a late season arrival in the White Sox
batting order as they acquired his contract from the Pittsburgh
Pirates first base, Sherm Laller catching, Billy Goodman third base,
Al Smith left field, Jim Rivera right field, Early win pitching.

(04:52):
The nineteen fifty nine World Series is being brought to
you from Comiskey Park in Chicago. May I help you? Yes,
I want something to relieve my child's cough. My family
takes thorection. The guided cough medicine, Guided what you need well.
Thorrection is guided right to the spot where coughing is controlled,

(05:15):
the cough control center. You see, doctors know coughing is
not controlled in the throat. Your throat merely follows orders
from the cough control center, which sends the message and
you cough now. Ordinary cough syrups don't even touch the
cough center. Until now, only cough medicines with narcotics could

(05:36):
depress this cough center, but narcotics may leave undesirable side effects.
Instead of narcotics, Thorrexin contains demon thorphin forrection soothes your throat,
then speed through your bloodstream directly to the cough control center.
Thorrecxin releaves coughing like aspirin relieves headaches fast sure safe

(05:58):
for the whole family. Theres the guided golf medicine. The
Los Angeles Dodgers came into this World Series where they
sensational finish and beating the Milwaukee Braves, the defending champions
in the National League, in the playoff, and it was
the third playoff or a Dodger ball club and the

(06:20):
third in National League history. The Dodgers in nineteen forty
six lost to the Cardinals, and in nineteen fifty four
they lost to the Giants, but this time they won
the playoff. Manager Walt Austin, who twice before has led
the Dodgers in the World Series competition, to a magnificent
job in bringing his team from seventh place last year

(06:41):
to first place, and that's the first time in National
League history that has ever been done. The last time
that happened in the American League the New York Yankees
in nineteen twenty five twenty seventh and jumped back to
first place in nineteen twenty six, and the Boston Red
Sox twenty seventh and nineteen forty five and jump to

(07:04):
first place in nineteen forty six. This ballpark, to give
you a bit of an idea of its layout, is
standardized in the distances all around the park from home
plate down the left field line is three hundred and
fifty two feet three hundred and fifty two feet down
the right field line at a point in left center

(07:26):
three seventy five at a similar point in right center
three seventy five. Straightaway center are the two bullpens divided
and a little fence about four or five feet high,
and it's four hundred and fifteen feet away. It's a
double decked affair. It is a pitcher's ballpark as a rule,

(07:48):
and plenty of running room for the outfielders to go
get those drives. We will have different dimensions, of course,
when we go to the Los Angeles Coliseum, there is
a fence twelve feet high. The double deck stands will run,
of course, somewhere in the neighborhood of seventy five or

(08:11):
eighty feet high to the top of the pavilion to
get to the starting pitchers. Roger Craig for the Visitors
won eleven and lost five. He's had quite a comeback year,
just as has early win. Last year. Roger Craig, after

(08:32):
having been demoted by the Dodgers because of a sore arm,
lost seventeen games in the American Association with the Saint
Paul and the six foot four North Carolinian from Durham.
Bothered by arm trouble plagued him last spring. The Dodgers
farmed him out to Spokekane brought him up in mid June,
and he went on to win eleven and he lost five,

(08:54):
and he did a tremendous job. Ended the nineteen fifty
nine season with a five game winning streak complete games
in his last three starts. He has pitched in three
World Series games, two of them starts, starting the fifth
game of the fifty five series against the Yankees at
ebbits Field, winning five to three, giving up two runs,
four hits and six innings, and in nineteen fifty six

(09:16):
he started the third game at Yankee Stadium, lost it
five to three. He was used in relief in the
seventh game of the fifty sixth series at Ebbitts Field.
His overall series record twelve innings, fourteen hits, ten runs,
all of them are in eight walks in eight strikeouts.
Early win is one of the all time winning pitchers.

(09:38):
At thirty nine years of age, he won twenty two games,
he lost ten. He pitched in only one World Series
against the Giants at the Polar Grounds and lost it.
He has won two hundred and seventy one Major League
games and stands fifteenth among the all time winners. He
led the Majors in victories this year and in his

(09:59):
only previous series game he started for Cleveland against the
Giants in the second game in nineteen fifty four, losing
it three to one, giving up only four hits in
seven innings. These two ball clubs sport good defense. The
Dodgers figure to have a little more power. The Dodgers
have a depth and pitching, though, as Walt Austin says,

(10:22):
a great deal depends on control. When they have control,
they can pour the ball by you. The White Socks
with early win the bell Weather have Billy Pearce and
a surprise this year, George Shaw, and they have good pitching,
good relief pitching in Jerry Stay and Turk Lown. Right now,

(10:43):
we have at home plate a color guard, and we'll
have a band in the moment, playing as we have
our national anthem. But this series promises to be one
in which you will find both teams playing toast to
the best baseball quite a lot. The White Sox have
won amazing number of one run games, and so have
the Dodgers. They get a man on, they sacrifice him.

(11:07):
They have men who can steal bases, and so it's
going to be an exciting series in that respect. And
you also have catchers on both sides, Roseborow and Laller
who can fire that ball. Louis Aparicio, who stole fifty
six bases this year is a man to be watched
and a fellow like Maury Wills is one of the

(11:29):
fastest men of the majors and the young man who
came along later in the season with the Dodgers took
over shortstop and helped solidify the team. Both managers really
know their baseball wall Auston has had previous World Series experience.
Al Lopez has always been a bride'smaid, but never quite

(11:52):
a bride. He has never finished lower than second in
Cleveland or Chicago. But this is the year for the
signor as one of the best like men in baseball,
and so we're looking forward to one of the most
exciting World Series. This is America's greatest sports spectacle. The
umpires Bill Summers the American League at home plate. This

(12:15):
will be his eighth appearance. He's from Upton, Massachusetts. Frank
Dascoli of Danielson, Connecticut at first base of the National League.
Summers from Upton, mass and Dascoli from Danielson, Connecticut. Ed
Hurley from Holyoke, Massachusetts of the American League in his
third series, will be at second base. In Frank Sikori
of Port Huron, Michigan will be the umpire at third base.

(12:38):
It's his second series. Johnny Rice of the American League
in his first series, the native of Chicago along the
left field line, and Hal Dixon will be stationed along
the right field foul line. He is the National League
and he's from St. Petersburg, Florida. So the twenty eight
year old Roger Craig and the third nine year old

(13:00):
Early Win will be the opening game pictures, and already
both managers have named their pitchers for tomorrow. It'll be
George Shaw or the White Sox and Johnny Podres for
the Dodgers. The weather today is a little bit on
the cool side, but fine, sixty four degrees, and of

(13:22):
course they're jam packed here. Comiskey Park's seating capacity is
forty six thousand, five hundred and fifty, but with standing
room they may move closer to fifty thousand for a while.
At the Los Angeles Coliseum they can pack in close
to one hundred thousand. But right now we will have

(13:52):
Martin and now our national anthems Tony Martin.

Speaker 2 (14:04):
Also last.

Speaker 1 (14:29):
In a l let's pause ten seconds for station.

Speaker 3 (15:39):
Identification, WGY ten year dial and wgs MS connect today.

Speaker 1 (15:54):
And so the scene is set for the first game
of the nineteen fifty nine World Series, the tenth World
Series in the fifty seventh World Series game for the Dodgers.
This is the fourth series in the twenty first series
game for the White Sox. Ten Dodger players have had
previous World Series experience. Billo, Hodga, Snyder, Gilliam, Levine, Craig, Patris, Drysdale,

(16:17):
Neil and Zimmer co Fax was eligible for fifty five.
There go the White Flocks on the field with Arguson,
Lawler and Win our previous series men that are on
the White Sox team and they were with other clubs.

(16:39):
As the White Sox take the field, and if we're
getting set for the first game of the World Series,
it is with great pleasure that turned the microphone over
to my colleague, one of America's great sports voices. Our
past cross lay times on national sports events. During the
season we broadcast the Philadelphia Phillies games firem Town. Thank

(17:06):
you very much, Mel. And right now, Red Faber, who
was on the championship team in nineteen seventeen when the
White Socks last won the World's Championship, makes the first
crawl his old battery mate Ray Shock is also here,
and of course it's great to see these old timers.
Mal mentioned the White Sox are already on the field.

(17:28):
You couldn't ask for a better baseball day. And now
the Dodgers are getting ready to go to back. Now,
this World Series, as you know, has to go four games,
and it can go as long as seven. Matter of fact,
over the last three years the series has carried to
the full seven games. The thirty nine year old right
hand or early Win, is now warming up. His only

(17:50):
World Series performance in nineteen fifty four. He was defeated
and the fellow that actually knocked him out of the
game was the fabulous Dusty Rows. How the Dodgers I've
come into the World Series after winning two over the
Milwaukee Braids. It's been a fantastic Cinderella team that comes

(18:13):
here from Los Angeles, and Asmall mentioned earlier they were
so tired after their plane tripped back to Chicago because
they did not work out here yesterday. So we're ready
to go the World Series of nineteen fifty nine and
here to lead off, Jim Gilliam third basement of switch
hitter and over the season in the National League was
batting it to eighty two. Now wins. There almost everything

(18:38):
at his control. He's a pierce competitor. He's fast, he
throws slow, tantalizing curve ball. He throws a screwball. Here
comes the first pitch of the ball game. Gilliam takes
it down the pipe of strike line. Gillium will be
followed by Charlie Neil and Wale Moore Roseborough later on,

(19:03):
of course, coming up betting seven. Craig against Win today
inside and Law one on one win won more games
than any other pitcher in the major leagues. Quite a comeback.
He won fourteen a year ago, but this season a
twenty two game winners. The Husky swings into action. Strink

(19:27):
two is fag on. J Gilliam, of course, is the
ideal leadoff man. He draws a lot of walks. He's
an excellent butter. Lilly Goodman, who was playing up a
bit shallow, is now backed up to normal. Death wins
ahead on the count one ball, two strikes. There's a

(19:49):
bounding boon. A short stop. Louis Aparicio makes the first
out as he puts the ball the ted Fwazuski, and
that's all for Junior Gillian one God, Yes, it's been
a long time since the Chicago fans have had a
World Series in the Windy City. You have to go

(20:09):
back to nineteen forty five when the Cups were in
the World Series, and of course way back to nineteen
nineteen when the Socks were last in the series. Here's
one of the finest den deeelers in baseball. His name
is Charlie Neal, second baseman and a right handed buttery
goes into the series well the two eighty seven average

(20:30):
over the season, including the two playoff games. Swinging strike one,
Charlie will be a tremendous threat back at the Coliseum
that's where the third game will be played next Sunday,
or he has hit most of his nineteen home runs
at the Coliseum. The Socks are playing him straight away fastball,

(20:56):
he cuts and files it off strike two.

Speaker 4 (20:59):
Now.

Speaker 1 (20:59):
Charlie is rated as one of the best curveball hitters
in baseball, and these first two pitches offered up by
a win have been past ones up around the letters
on the coaching lines today. For the Dodgers, the veteran
Greg Maldy at first base and Pee Wee reachs one
of the all time greats. It's coaching at third base,

(21:22):
one out and nobody else went ahead owing to inside
a ball. It's very interesting to notice the skipper Al
Lopez standing here at the extreme right end of the
home team dugout, which is located just off to our
left on the third base side. He was trying to

(21:43):
make an adjustment on his right fielder, Jim River outside
breaking pitch to tour. I would say the crowd is
over fifty thousand to day standing room only. All points
lead to Komeski Park today. Two balls, two strikes when

(22:08):
into the Martian outside pitches slapped foul and this ball
is carrying over to the right side of the plate.
I'm going onto the room. Most of the streets in
Chicago have been designated as one way avenues. Later on,
when the game is over, they all lead back to

(22:29):
the loop. Even new street signs have been added here
to show people the visitors how they get to this
name is Kamiski Part two balls, two strikes, long, five walls,
curting bowls go left, Alves have coming over, but it disappears.
End of the epithet two balls and two strikes in

(22:51):
the on deck circle is Wally Moon now some of
these Dodgers have never seen this ballpark. And these teams
did not even meet in spring training. They had a
couple of games schedule, but they were rained out two too.

(23:12):
Another five. Neil stays alive. Now you're in field or
the socks, Belly Gibbon operating at third, Aparicio at short,
Belle Fox at second base, Ted Kuzuski, the huge first
baseman who came over on the twenty cloth, the Baucus
at first, and then the outfield as Al Smith, Jim Landers,

(23:36):
Jimmy Rovere while are catching Ken too. Ball three is
low and I saw Bill standing fairly deep in the
batting box. His fella has a real good level short swing.

(24:03):
He taps one white a player Billie Goodman can't have it.
The walls gives off the glove and goes back of
Aparicio and Charlie. Neil is safe with a base hit,
a base hid. The first of the World Series of
nineteen fifty nine, pager walk Austin will tell you walle

(24:31):
Mo coming to bat. This wired teon was the most
consistent ballplayer he had all year. He came from the
Saint Louis Cardinals and he played in practically every game.
Walle is a left head adviser. Mel and I were
tired to decide whether he was in left or right,
but today he is starting left field. Win keeps hot

(24:55):
eye on the base runner, Charlie Neil a token throw,
he's safe out and one man on. At the top
of the first inning, the Dodgers at that windraws strike call.
They got fastball on the season, while he hit three

(25:16):
O two. And on the bases, he's a very, very good,
daring base runner. He'll take a base when you least
expect him. I'll win again. Flips over the first base.
Neil's still there, all right. The Cagy right hand of

(25:38):
throws and Moon sends a high fly ball the left.
It's playable, and Aparicio is crossing back and getting under,
and Lowie puts it away for a second hour two
gone up, Snyder, urn of Maney, World Series Manning and

(26:00):
the cleanup spot now coming in. It's amazing that Duke
has been in six World Series. He's been in thirty
two ballgames, and of course in a couple of those
series against the Yankees, he was red hot. I think

(26:20):
another one of the reasons that Los Angeles came back
so strongly from seven to win the title. It was
a couple of their old crawls fellas like Snyder and Hodges,
Carl Kirilla, Duke's a left handed, they're playing deep to
right and Strikelane is taw Now the wind at all

(26:45):
times in Chicago is a factor, and it is blowing
directly in from centerfield at about eight miles an hour.
Neil gets a pretty good lead and Harry Galls the
pitch is outside, and Charlie Neil steal second base. He

(27:07):
got a great lead on early when that time had
a successful steal a second base. Well, this is one
of the things that we were looking for from the
Chicago White Sox. And Charlie Neil, who during the season
was the second best base dealer on the Dodger Black Box,
has come up with the first steal in the series.

(27:31):
Now they've got a runner at second base, they count
on the Duke. One ball, one strike. Now Laller's straw
was acrid enough, but it was a late here we go, Paul,
that's sent directly back into the stream. While the press
box today is completely overloaded down in front of us,

(27:54):
the visiting scribe from all over the country are actually
sitting in some of the choice seats here. It would
be utilized during the regular season, and Mel and I
have a wonderful position to call the game today. We're
directly behind home plate, setting up high, just under the rooftop.
Children are gone. No score, but the Dodgers have Charlie

(28:17):
Neil at second base when is very slow, very deliberate
stretcher straw outside timball two strikes. Well, not a fox

(28:48):
who plays the hitters about as well as anyone plays
a very deep second.

Speaker 2 (28:52):
Base on Snyder.

Speaker 1 (28:55):
Class keep playing deep and fairly close to the line
at first outside law Paul just missed the strakes of
You could see wins on a Clinch's fist out there
and says, hey, I thought I had it a full
count on Snyder. Charlie Neil came up with an infield

(29:24):
single and then moved into second base with a successful steer. Wow,
something's got to give when on the stretch here's a
pitch hive of ball four Snyder walks and the Dodgers

(29:45):
have runners at first and second boots. Now, you could
see Winn was certainly trying to work the corners, and
he didn't go too much.

Speaker 2 (30:00):
Lighters.

Speaker 1 (30:02):
Now, Norm Locker is hitting in the number five batting spot.
Norm Locker Locker hit two ninety on the season. They've
got him in right field, and there was a time

(30:22):
when Gil Hodges was hurt and he took over at
first phase. Send one file a high twisting ball that's
off on the third b side. Shrank one. Locker has
to be one of the most underrated players. I'm a
Dodger ball club. It reminds me a lot of Nellie Fox.
He's had to fight his way into the major leagues.

(30:44):
And this fellow was a consistent three hundred hitter four
years in a row in the minor leagues before he
got a chance in the Big Show. Austin loves da
rave about this fellow's swing, a short swing and a
level swing. He's a left headed butter when cuts loose

(31:05):
outside one and one.

Speaker 5 (31:19):
A spider.

Speaker 1 (31:20):
Norm Locker is considered to be the Dodger's best bunter,
and he won a few games for LA this year
with a squeeze butt stripe got breaking fits the booming
voice of Bill Summer, the butt front of the American
League working behind the plate today. Also, we have two

(31:47):
added umpires today one down the right field line and
one down the left field line. This is the first
game of the World Series. The Dodgers are posing a
thread here in the first inning. Two on two out
and Walker the letter. When ahead he drawl. There's a
well hit blot the right tail. Jimmy Rovaro is over

(32:09):
the waiting a w shot have come out of a
first sinner Los Angeles noron one hip two lout that
one o er score completing a half Nay from Comiskey
Park today, La nothing, Chicago nothing.

Speaker 4 (32:31):
Well.

Speaker 1 (32:31):
The leadoff man in the bottom of the first inning
will be Louis Aparicio, and what a ball player. He
is unanimously voted the top shortstop in the league. He
is a leading candidate for the Most Valuable Player award.
Of course, Louis is a Gellette user and one of
our top boosters. Now lesson what he has to say
about the new Gillette adjustable razor. Yes, there's nothing like

(32:53):
a razor you set to your own skin and beer boy,
what comfort I get? And Je'll agree with Louis. I'm
sure that once you try that amazing new Gellette one
ninety five adjustable. And here's why this insafe. No new
razor has a dial located right on the handle. You
adjust it instantly. The mats your particular combination of skin

(33:14):
and beer. Now there are nine different numbered stocks at
the settings. With the lower numbers you expose less blade edge.
As you dial a higher number, blade exposure and angle
increase with the adjustment. That's exactly right for you. While
shaving is a breeze, please quick and with comfort that's
almost unbelievable. Yes, the Gelett adjustable with the spencer of

(33:39):
blue blades and travel case costs just a dollar ninety five.
Right hander Roger Craig warming up easy going off Carolinian

(34:00):
Ohs Ben the honest Dodger pitcher over the last three weeks.
Here is Louis a Farricio. He stands only five eight,
but he is the dollinge of the fans here in Chicago.
He is running at two fifty seven from ra Kai
ball Venezuela, all right handed. By there. Here's Craig's pitch

(34:25):
strike one. Caw Crag at one time was a fine
fastball pitcher. However he encountered arm trouble. Today he is
principally a slider and sinker ball on us straight to
his car, and he prides himself in getting the ball
over the play. Austin has already pointed out, to beat

(34:50):
the White Sox, you've got to keep this little fellow
off the bases. He pops one up near second base
and the shortstop is coming over. That's Murray Will's who
makes it one down. Nellie Fox. Nellie is the only

(35:14):
three hundred hitter in the Chicago line up to day A,
batting at three zero six. But what a competitor he is,
bat some left handed from Saint Thomas, Pennsylvania, and I
suppose at about half of that little community in western
Pennsylvania is attending this World Series. Outside law one and all,

(35:37):
it's Craig pitching, with Roseboro catching. Durinfield is Junior Gilliam,
mary Wells, Charlie Neil and Gil Hodgins, Locker Snyder and
Moon holding down the outfield. Fox steps out and apparently

(36:03):
has asked they played on fire to look over the
ball one and all outside a ball.

Speaker 6 (36:14):
Now.

Speaker 1 (36:15):
Fox is an unusual hitter. He catalog is a spray hitter.
He stands right on top of the plate and he
gets many of his hits Tilestia high for ball free.
How the Dodgers had two men on in the first
inning but could not score. It's nothing to nothing in

(36:38):
the first game of the World Series from Chicago, Stripe
Jimmy landis another one of the speed boys. How they
go go, Sox is on deck, Craig fires high for
ball bar and the Fox.

Speaker 5 (36:59):
How of a running.

Speaker 1 (37:06):
Out fielder, Jimmy Landers coming up, jim All, Jimmy Landers,
one of the bright stires coming along. You just can't
beat this fellow in the outfield. And Lopez gets a
lot of credit for the patience he's had with his

(37:28):
youngster and bringing him along as a batter strike one
call over the past season. He hit two sixty four
Jimmy Landers, and I noticed the Dodgers and they've scotted
this club very very well. They play him the left,
he will pitch out. I go to first base and
there goes Fox sliding in. He's backed safely. Now the

(37:49):
Rodgers figure that Fox was gonna be on his way
one on one swings. He tried to go to the
right field that time on tals it off one and
who Now the second game of the World Series will

(38:16):
originate here in Chicago tomorrow, and it will be coming
on the air at eastern daylight time. It has been
announced that Johnny hot Rays and Bob Shaw will pitch tomorrow.
Saturday will be a travel date, and the third game
of the World Series will come from Los Angeles on
Sunday at a later time. Another Fi track working outside

(38:42):
at nas You be with one ball, two strikes. Landers
is twenty five years old and he hill from Richmond, California.
Now Bill Summers has stopped the ballgame and has moved

(39:07):
out to the man he's talking to, Craig brag down
the stretch was simply terrific. He won his last five games,
and of course pitched a wonderful game last Sunday against
the Cubs right here in Chicago to help clinch the

(39:28):
pennant at least a tie for it. Outside and Law,
two balls, two strikes, one gone, box edging off at
first base, Outside and Law, he just missed with his slider.

(39:52):
Pick three balls, two strikes. Now the coaches all the
White Sox, Tony Kuchinata at third base and Don Guttaridge
really whipping up some enthusiasm as they coach at first base.
Here we all he swings one hag He's hitting a

(40:14):
White Twinner Hawks is gonna make it the third base
as the ball is fielded by a locker a swingle
and the White Sox fans are really cheering. Now, how

(40:35):
do you like young Jim Landers whose first time up
in World Series competition coming through with a solid base hit.
All the White Sox have runners at first and third,
one out. Here's one of our late editions. He's been
quite a ball player. The mama Ted Klazuski, who was

(40:59):
born and raised right here near Chicago, but today makes
his home in Cincinnati. He joined the White Sox coming
over from Pittsburgh on the twenty fifth of August. Outside
the ball on the season, he hit two seventy fives,
and about three years ago it was doubtful if Ted
was going to stay in baseball at all. He had

(41:21):
a very very severe hip and back condition. That's right.
One ball one spry Roger Craig and a bit of
hot water here in the first Fox got a walk

(41:41):
and landa hit. A three to two pitch winded over
Charlie Neal's head into the right summer one and one
there goes all run it a hit and runners on
a hit hit come fuck holl and my White Fox
lead runs an a day. We're really getting a paste

(42:08):
of how the White Sox win ball game. Nelly Fox
already at third, Orlandos tuck off on a first just
the movement of a base runner sometimes throws the veil
a bit long. And there was a hole between first
and second, and Klazuski poured it through there. So the
Mighty Pad has hunted across the first run of the

(42:29):
game or nothing in Chicago. Ba Klazuski has been in
baseball for aunty years. This is the first time he's
ever played in the World Series. Dinner Bunning at two
sixty six, he tries a pun and he looks at

(42:50):
bomb strike Wine. Well, look back through our records on
World Series competition and we found that Laller did catch
back in nineteen forty seven. He believes that the Chicago
team of this year is the greatest he's ever played for.
He's a right hander, and of course, over the last

(43:11):
week or saw, he's been out with an injured hand.
Jim Bunning of Detroit hitting accidental pitch got away and
it was a bruise and he was held out of
competition there for a few days. But he's a real
leader of the Chicago pitching staff. He operates like Dalla

(43:31):
crandall of that Milwaukee Brave team. Here's a full foul
to left trait. Two. Term hit twenty two home runs
during the season, which was the highest total of all
of the Chicago ballplayers. Chuck Chern is now starting to
draw a few in the bullpen. And I might add

(43:54):
here in Gomiski Park, the two bullpens are located straight
away in sunny the Dodger bullpen to the right of
the flag pole and the home team bullpens just to
the left, and the huge scoreboard just a buck every
seat taken here for the first game of the series,

(44:15):
I have a terrific personning so far, the Sox eleating
outside low one ball, two strikes now. Craig did get
into a World Series in nineteen fifty five. As a
matter of fact, he was a winner over the Yankees.
The next year, in nineteen fifty six, he was defeated

(44:36):
by Whitey Ford in the World Series Game five to three.
Two men are on the sprench and the pitch, and
it's a slap file that's just off to our right,
and thought all one of the visitings Strived. Needless to say,

(45:03):
there were hundreds and hundreds of writers talking with Craig
before the game. He seemed to be more concerned about
his headache. He says, you know, I'm not a bad hitter.
He drove outside low, two balls and two strikes.

Speaker 5 (45:23):
L A.

Speaker 1 (45:23):
Fox has already scored the first run of the nineteen
fifty nine World Series. He scampered home on a single
by Ted Klazowski, and Craig is not out of the
woods by any means. Orlandis is now at third, Klazowski
at first, one out inside and high qual three, and

(45:44):
they've got Craig working. It's a second pre two count.
He's run up and the last time of the first inning,
wander nothing's to score the Chicago White Sox league three balls,

(46:05):
two strikes, a pop pole. It's carrying, I believe out
of play. Yeah, it's coming over, just beyond the pogopher's ledge.
One of the most terrific things about the Dodger team,
and it's amazing stretch run, has been their terrific pitching.

(46:26):
Is mel Allen told you earlier this club one fifteen
out of its last twenty games, and if they were
not strong in the starting. They had some terrific youngsters
to come out of that bull thing. All right, three
and two do dollar? He swings line five well head
into deep right centerfield, Locker way way out centerfielder. Steiner

(46:48):
HiT's grab by Locker. Here's a tag and here comes
a second run across. And I want you to know
that that ball was really hit into that win Lover
is out, but it's a sacrifice why Landers has come
across and Chicago leads by a scar of two to nothing.
Lasiski remained at first base. That ball was really hit

(47:11):
and the way Locker went for it and then almost
gave up on it. He heard Snyder coming along, but
Locker stayed with it. And it is quite a catch.
An RBI for Sharon Laller. Now you're Better's Billy Goodman,
a very much underrated ball player who takes strank one.

(47:34):
Now in this series you can look for Billy Goodman
and Bubba Phillips to ordernate at third. Here's a five
ball in the center. Snyder backing off, has their room
and the duke has it for the final eleven. All
that was quite a first inning, wasn't it? For Chicago? Two?
Runs two hits, one man left. God there were no
arrows had the end of the first inning the scar

(47:57):
Chicago two la nothing. Just twist that dial and you
know that with the justable rainer by luring so so
tie what we need. Will pause now thirty seconds for

(48:28):
a station identification.

Speaker 7 (48:32):
Saratoga Vishi's living carbonation never goes flat. Stay sparkling alive
to give you extra dry flavor. That's why Saratoga Vishi
always tastes better. Insist on Sarahtoga Vishi.

Speaker 5 (48:43):
Sarahtoga Ishi yellow label, Sarahtogah yellow label.

Speaker 1 (48:49):
Saratoga wgy w G SMS.

Speaker 7 (48:53):
Connectady series time is clean sweep time on all fifty
nine Plymouth cars and suburbans. That's Connectady Plymouth. Jim Schultz says,
come and get them at clean squeeze prices. Ten sixteen
state streets.

Speaker 1 (49:03):
Connect today, Mesquit Park decked out and all of its
glory today, and the White Sox a leading two or
nothing as we enter the top half of the second inning,
Yill Hodges, we'll be leading off Y Hodges. Over the

(49:25):
last couple of weeks of the National League Pennant Race
usually was betting in the number five betting spot. He's
an old pro. He's been in seven World Series, and
of course Gil has had his ups and downs. Two
weeks ago he was almost managed from head to foot,
but he kept playing. He's a fellow that seems to

(49:47):
get the clutch, hits the powerful looking right headed butter
Win gets us on overs bake one car Hodges to
be followed by Johnny Rosebarrow the cutcher, and Murray Wills
short stuff. Aparricchio plays well over toward third base on
this right hander outside a ball. Yes, early Win is

(50:16):
working today against Roger Craig, and of course in a
series that cannot go more than seven games. Wanning, that
first one is a mighty big idem outside ball too.

(50:37):
Now when it appears has great stuff. He's trying to
work the corners. He ran the count full in the
first inning on two batters and lost each one of them.
A few balls and it's right, there's a well hit
ball to left field. Smith backing up, he's near the wall.
He has it. That ball has hit a good three

(50:58):
hundred and fifty feet away, and it's only three hundred
and fifty two feet to the left field. Law I'll
give you an idea one down number forty four. The
left headed hitting catcher of the Dodger ball team, John Roseboro.

(51:20):
Johnny Roseboro from Compton, California. Johnny didn't hit too high
on the average, but he certainly came up with some
big hits over the last week. Bowles us one out
of bars back line. Many of you remember his home

(51:40):
run at Milwaukee on Monday won the first game in
the playoff three to two. Good power to a right
nobody on went out when cuts loose a chain that's
high one in line. Even at thirty nine years of age,

(52:08):
Winn has one of the most graceful moves and pitching
motions of anyone I've ever known. Too high, all too
anytime the Socks were indifficulty. This year he was a
man that won the key game. There was a stretch
in September when the Socks lost three in a row
and they were starting to worry, and he stopped that losing.

(52:33):
Speaking to her two and one, a pa up and
overhead two and two, it's nice to be talking with you.
The World Series is underway. The first two games, as
you know, are to be staged here in the American
League Park. The next three will come from Los Angeles

(52:57):
the Colosseum, and if more games are needed back here
in Chicago. Two two win Thraworge flyball infield, third bay
side and Aperho is making the call, and Louis stays
with a fuddy in all with the glove and on base.

(53:18):
There is no equal to that little fella Apperto two gone.
The score is two or nothing. The White Sox lead
the first game of the World Series. Ma Marie Wills
Church stop is being announced now. Maray has certainly been

(53:41):
an intrigal part of his Dodger success. He wasn't even
with the Dodger ball club in spring training. He has
become a switch hitter, and he certainly did a tremendous
job for them in the month of September. Strike one car.
He is patting left hads. While he hit two sixty

(54:03):
on the season, he hit better than four hundred in
the month of September. Two are gone and nobody on
a spunning off on the third base side straight tow

(54:32):
when has given up one hit, also a walk, and
he had the right pitch to get out of the
first inning, so heavy sat right had Aaron throws high
and inside a ball at the moment the sun has disappeared.

(55:03):
Tampa gear reading is in the mid sixties high and
outside ball too. It's been interesting to watch Maury Wills.
He formerly was a right headed batter, and he decided
to go to switching felt along the lines of Louis

(55:28):
Aparicio to too outside ball. He was telling many of
the writers, broadcasters and CD men today. Reggie Ashburn gave
him a little tip. He found that he was lifting
his left leg just before swinging into the pitch, and
on that tip, he went on to have a tremendous

(55:51):
late search. Pretty tool. He's fucking up outside for my
I'll strike for when no runs, no hips, nobody left
on or Los Angeles. That the end of one and
a half from Gomeski Park. The Dodger's nothing Chicago two.

(56:15):
You know, there's almost one thousand support writers covering the
news of this game today. And now here's another piece
of news. That Gellette oneive adjustable razor gives shaving comfort
like you've never had before. Have you tried it yet?
Believe met fans, it's the greatest. Let me tell you
about it. There are nine different adjustments on this razor.

(56:37):
You just turned the micromedor dial to the one that
matches your skin and beard exactly. You said it. At
a higher number, you expose more play the my lower
numbers retracts the blade. Yes, it's that easy to find
your setting and then the comfort you get, well, it's
all but unbelievable. See the Gillette one five adjustable razor.

(56:58):
Try it with the spencer of Gillett Blue blades and
Streamline travel case. It cost a dollar ninety five. Along
with mel Allen. This is by Son. We're setting in
on the first game of the World Series. The Socks

(57:21):
leave two to nothing, Roger Craig getting ready to go,
and the matter is Al Smith. Smidi was in one
of the World Series. A matter of fact, he got
a home run in the first inning. He's happy to

(57:42):
be here in Chicago. On the season he hit two
thirty seven and Craig which is a quick sinker inside
and law one and all. They play Al Smith as
a pull hitter. Kill up, Sirrike, says Bill Summer. Roger

(58:18):
Craig draws and Smith ran up on the pets stride
a butN and it is fouled off. One ball, two strikes.
The White Sox made good use of a walk too
singles and a sacrifice fly. They got two runs home

(58:40):
in the person strike three card, and that's all for
al Smith. Craig hangs up a strikeout. Right fielder Jim Rivera.

(59:12):
Jim originally hail from Brooklyn, but now lives here in
the state of Indiana, and he will be alternated in
right field according to the pitching all right. A foul
that he beats along the first piece line strike one.
Over the season, Jimmy headed two twenty six. But he's

(59:33):
a real live wire and he keeps the Chicago ball
club very loose. Left hander with a slightly open batting stance,
sends a high twisting file. It might be playable Hodges
coming off the line, and Gil backs up and makes it,
and that is all for the Chicago houlefielder till now

(59:56):
have a ball. There comes early when having a nice
round of a ball. It's going to be interesting to
see how Lopez will rotate his starting pitchers, but the

(01:00:23):
Chicago writers have been speculating all week this fella is
likely to be a starter in three different games if
the series goes that far. Now Win is considered to
be one of the best hitters in baseball and he's
a switch hitter. He had a two forty four batting
average over the season. He had twenty two hits, and
he also had a couple of home runs. He is

(01:00:47):
batting left handed against Craig, swinging sprank wine. Most of them,
as I've talked with, always point to early wind. They
were asked, what pitcher would you like to have if
you had to win one ball game? Strike two call.

(01:01:13):
I noticed that Craig works a little more faster between
the pitches and win cho gone two nothing Chicago leads
taps of auto them on crag bottles, recovers and throws
and that's all an early win. Three up and three
down of the second inning for the Go Go Socks.
We have not completed two innings in the World Series.

(01:01:33):
Game number one, score White Socks two play nothing. Now,
with the miracle of guided medicine, you can relieve your
cough as easily as you relieve aheadache. Take the reson
the guided cough medicine that goes to the right spot
your cough control center. Doctors, No, coughing is not controlled

(01:01:55):
in the throat. Your throat merely follows orders from the
cough control center, which sends the message and you cough now.
Ordinary cough syrups don't even touch the cough center. Until now,
only cough medicines with narcotics could depress this cough center.
But narcotics may leave undesirable side effects. Instead of narcotics,

(01:02:18):
Thorrexin contains demathorphen Forrexon. Soothes your throat, then speed through
your bloodstream directly to the cough control center. Thorexen relieves
coughing like aspirin relieves headaches, fast, sure, safe for the
whole family. So get Thorrexen, the guided cough medicine. Roger

(01:02:43):
Craig will be leading off in the top of the third.
Roger Roger Craig, a right headed butter leading off against
wind and high and inside one and all. There's been

(01:03:08):
a fantastic story on Craig. He came up from Spokane
midway through the season. He had a losing record in
the minor leagues, and last year at Saint Paul he lost.
I believe more games than anyone in the league. But
when I come back, here's uphill upstairs one and one.

(01:03:29):
Of course, the reasoning on that is that he had
a sore arm and he was trying to work it out.
He claims today that he's a lot smarter pitcher, although
he doesn't throw quite as hard. One on one, stick
to his car, laid off better and he'll be followed

(01:03:53):
by Jung Gillian of all. Now, Craig has almost every
bit of information on his baseball career his fingertips. He

(01:04:15):
was telling us he got one hit in the World Series.
I believe that was a nineteen fifty six, even though
he lost the game to Whitey four swinging, he's out.
That's a second strikeout in a row for early win.
And here we come to the top man of the

(01:04:36):
betting owner. You and your Gilliam. Remember at one time
he played second base, and for a while when the
Dodgers had a championship team a few years back, he
was a left tail. There's a pop up, it is playable,
and La Fox is backing off. Fox is under a housard.

(01:05:00):
Oh god, La sends up second baseman Charlie Neil. He
came along with an in fields single in the first
inning a ball skidded away from Billy Goodman at third base.

(01:05:20):
Then he proceeded to steal second base, but he didn't
get any further. When working like a machine. A throws
wall and away, Allen chill on and nobody on outside

(01:05:49):
chilling all the step down on the pitch he takes.
He's starting to go for that pitch and takes inside

(01:06:11):
high ball, three strike right handed. Early Win today lives

(01:06:34):
in a little community known as Nacomas, Flora. It's on
the West Coast. He's one of the most popular ball
players I think I've ever known, and one of the
most intelligent. A Foule friend who he is a sports writer.
At different times during the year, he flies his own

(01:06:55):
personal plane. He says, I've never won the World Series game,
and I'm really after this one. Three toes. He works on.
Charlie Neil long drive to laugh way way back because
Al Smith, this ball is foul.

Speaker 2 (01:07:15):
It is poul.

Speaker 1 (01:07:16):
It went into the seats, but it's poul and that's
one of the reasons we have the extra umpire along
the lines. That's John Rice of the American League, who
was in a tremendously good spot to call it. Neil
just missed a home run, and he didn't miss it
by very many feet, believe me. Just a long strike

(01:07:45):
and the count of three balls two strikes. Now he
had to wait until the last lomana happened, but it
curled out Poul and another foul ball. Lawlor discutting the
mass back will he have room? No? And novatter Neils
stays alive. How this is one of the toughest parts

(01:08:13):
in baseball for home run hitting. As Mel mentioned earlier,
it's three hundred and fifty two feet down each line,
and it's four hundred and fifteen feats straight away to
set it, Arlie delais, there's a top all a wide

(01:08:38):
a third, but here's a little apperhil and Louie gets
his map. A great play, my apper chill, and it's
the final art here in the third inning, no runs
for lam, no hits, nobody laugh. We go to the
last half of the third innings, it's still Chicago too,
and Los Angeles nothing will Casey single is certainly as

(01:09:02):
good as his word. He said he'd be at today's
game even if he had to pay to get end,
and believe me, he's here in a case is never
at a loss for words, and he sure had some
nice ones to say about that remarkable dude. Gelett one
ninety five adjustable razor, and here they are no razor
I ever had even comes close to that new adjustable

(01:09:24):
of yours. Believe me, you get clean, comfortable shaves that
are tops. Yes, that's the story. Never before has there
been a razor like the Gillette adjustable. You simply turn
the adjusting dial. They get nine different degrees of hedge,
exposure and edge angle. One fits your exact requirements. You

(01:09:45):
find your setting in a jiffy. A turn to the
left gives less exposure, dial to the right for more
played edge. The Gillette one ninety five adjustable is a
one piece rasor. Changes blades instantly, wrenches clean fast, and
it's soul. With this run, you get the finest shade
that you've ever had, or your money back in trim

(01:10:05):
travel case with get blue blade the spenser because you
let a justaboat cost only a dollar ninety five. And
here we go. The laid off man is Apper Ricchio.
He sends one into right waiting part is locker, and
that is all for. Apper Ricchio goes for the first pet. Yes,

(01:10:27):
it's world series time and all roads in the Midwest
leading the Gomiski Park on the south side of Chicago.
Apper Ricchio has gone out twice now and this is
Nelly Fox. Foxy drew a walk in the first inning
and scart the first run of the game. Strike one

(01:10:49):
call a Fox chokes way.

Speaker 2 (01:11:05):
Up on the back.

Speaker 1 (01:11:09):
He seldom will beat you with a home run, but
he can beat you so many other ways. There's a
line drive hit the right field, down into the right
peel Connor goes Locker. Fox is gonna nickqu two. Here
comes a throw. It's a double, but la well the

(01:11:42):
first extrap hit extra basehead of the ball game box
at second base. One gun. Jim Lande is coming along
the bat. You know that kind of pooled us too
in the broadcasting booth, because Foxy most of the time
goes to the left Sunday for his hips. This is

(01:12:05):
Jim Landers. He's single in the person, has a ball
to right, feel a base hat box, his heading for
the plate, and he's gonna score without a draw. Iron Walker.
Heid's the second great loving Chicago. How do you like that?

(01:12:36):
Jimmy Landers? He has a big two for two in
the first game of the World Series and an r
beyond that. Paul was hits jo just over the head
of Charlie Neil, who leap tied but he couldn't get
to the ball. Now once again, I'm at Dodger bullpen

(01:12:59):
chur and starts tuning up. Your number four hitter is
ped Kozuski Theodore I came up with a hit. He
put a hip hone on with land Us on the persitting,
and he drove in the first one of the game.
I moved the first look out. Landis just got back.
He went in head first. You can hear the go

(01:13:25):
gol fans hollowing, go, go goll land Us. Another move
the first landas safe. Of course, you've heard so much
about Louis Aparicio and his face hitting. Landis might have
been overlook but not by the Dodgers. Now, with so

(01:13:49):
much attention directed at first base, Waszuski backs out inside
law the pitch one and all the time is out.
Here's Neil coming in from second base. A score again

(01:14:11):
is three to nothing, though white Socks have come up
with four heads and now. Just a few years ago
Clue was capable of cutting thirty five to forty home
runs a season, but lately he's been more of a
line drive hitter. I'm not moved the first and almost

(01:14:34):
a wide crawl by Craig got stop by hunchings only
one out, one one out? Who hit the long fide
all right way up in the air. But it might
be playing a locker back back it is into the
k hit go a man, your hold on. While they're

(01:15:18):
standing and yelling at Kamsky part time is down and
Kazuski is there. Boy, right now, that ball took off
and just got into the seat in deep right. It
must appeared a good three hundred and sixty feet Walker
had packed up against the wall. But dejectively, what's to
go in to the second or third row?

Speaker 3 (01:15:42):
You know?

Speaker 1 (01:15:42):
After coming over to the American League earlier, who only
had two home runs to my knowledge, and they came
in the same game. But man, he really showed us
power here. How about that?

Speaker 6 (01:15:54):
Now?

Speaker 1 (01:15:55):
He sure did. Who has helped this club a great deal.
We had a lot of problems at first base. Earl Targuson,
who played in the World Series in forty eight for
the White Sox, came over but did not hit consistently enough.
The White Sox have been trying out several first basemen.
They needed a long ball hit or to goal with

(01:16:16):
Loller and they got big poo. And of course, while
as you said, he does knit the home run as
often as he used to. He's still dangerous and he
just proved it. All right, you are alt in a moment,
we'll have a no pitcher coming on and Chuck turn.
We told you it's been warming off right now. We

(01:16:37):
pauled thirty seconds or session.

Speaker 8 (01:16:39):
Identification wgy WGFM, Schenectady. Enjoy a perfect mixed drink every
time with Sarah Togavishi. No other mixer can equally extra
dry flavor, the long lasting sparkle of the vishy with
a yellow label.

Speaker 1 (01:17:01):
Yeh.

Speaker 8 (01:17:02):
We sacrifice a little time to save save money at
Troy Savings Bank, where deposits made before October fifteenth, turn
of Big three and a quarter percent from October first.

Speaker 1 (01:17:17):
While Roger Craig leaves, Manager Austin has made the first
pitching change and Chuck Chern c h u r N
right hander comes on to pitch tail from Uniontown, Pennsylvania,
six three, two hundred and five pounder. Here's the story

(01:17:41):
on number forty five. Shock was in fourteen games for
the Dodgers doing the fifty nine season. He was one
of their late arrivals. However, he did win three games,
he lost two and had to learn on average of

(01:18:02):
four point nine four So Craig has been knocked out
after two and a third innings and what so a
double by Fox, a single by Lenders, and a home
run by Ted Klazuski after two and a third innings,
Craig is out. He gave up five runs, five hits.

(01:18:30):
That sway the White Sox have been doing it all year.
They get earlyague, great mileags out of their hits. Churt's
the Sox team. They have never been known as a
powerhouse club, and yet there they're utilizing the home run
of the very first game. Lailer is the vetter against
Chen and the first pitch is a strike one call.

(01:18:52):
Jerm hit a three to two pitch in the center field.
In the first inning, they got a second run holl
A five halltill out while I Moon is coming up,
the cunner fielder is coming over and then run together
and they dropped the ball. And then the second base
called Waller. Snyder and Moon didn't quite make up their

(01:19:13):
minds and the wall is finally dropped. See how they
gotta roll it? Waller a arrives on second base. It's
an arrow on Snyder. All the White Sox have freezed

(01:19:39):
out in front fives and nothing and they good. One
is up, trink one cold and Bill coming to mad
for the second time. First hunning, he skied out to
the cunner fielder Luke Snyder, a ball one on one.

(01:20:11):
You know the way the wind has been blowing today.
There was some doubt as to when the Kolozwskis drive
would get into the lowest seats, but it made it.
And what I had it was with the white size
ron ball white of first, I just can't get in
a base head. There comes a runner around third and
while Lawlor is not a speed merchant, he scores, so

(01:20:32):
Canto leaves slips to nothing, Allo passes. Team clearly has

(01:20:53):
let thebic here. It is early in the World Series,
but they're hitting that ball. That sixth run will be
charged against Roger Cray and left header Sandy Colfax is
starting to tune up for the West Coast team. The

(01:21:16):
last five batters to come to the plate have all
been able to get on the highlight of this inning,
a home run by cleonol Klasski churn side Armor pitching
low at offside to Ale Smith one and all right

(01:21:43):
Header cuts loose inside of all. Smith struck out with
the leadoff batter in the second. Don't underrate this. Al
Smith's batting average. There's not something you write home about,
but he can be dangerous. Right. Header swings and half

(01:22:06):
the ball well tagged. Laugh, and he is over the
head of home, ricochets off of the concrete hall till
a good one they're sending in the third. Wait a minute,
they're gonna help. No, the ball gets my hundres and
here comes to that home They had hell come, but
up put the ball. Good bye Hunds and another one scores.
Send enough, thing's your cargo. Now there's going to be

(01:23:01):
an ore. I'm sure. First of all, take nothing away
from Smith. He doubled that ball clear over Moon's head.
Moon then through the ball toward second base, and they
had held at one time good one at third. But
then the ball got by Hodges and Goodman took off
with the plate and he's scored, and with it Smith

(01:23:21):
arrives at third base. The nfield is up. The matter
now is Jim Rivera and it's a strike one ball.
There's a bounding bar to the second basemen. They're coming
to the plate. Rosebarrow lets it get by. They had
the man dead coming home, but the ball gets by Rosebarrow.
Another run score. It's how heats to nothing. You're car

(01:23:44):
goll Charley Neil with the Nfiel drawn in made the
pick up and it appeared he made a good crawl.
But it's getted by rose Barrow, and Smith was allowed
to come in, and Rivera takes off and makes second base.

(01:24:16):
While the White Socks are having a big time of it,
they rolled an arrow on Snyder on that two bays
head off the wall by Hal Smith. Snyder laid the
trawl and Snyder was carried with the arrow. Now here
is still another arrow added against the Rodgers. The batter

(01:24:36):
is early when the pictures of all long the Gorgo
Socks have betted around fine drive the left center that
might be ahead, it's in there for excavations. Here comes
another on home. No varos cars and early wind ships
in with a double. Oh, these white socks going to town.

(01:24:58):
They lead nine thing. It's a double for early winds.
On the last play they rolled an arrow on Neil.
So this has really been a hecticetting for the California
nine Early wind doubles. Homer run White Sox fans can

(01:25:19):
hardly believe it. What are they having a lot of fun?
Seven runs have poured across in this wild third inning.
No matter now is Louis apa Riccio bedding for the

(01:25:41):
second time. Louis sends one of them on on Chuck
Churned stops it. They made a look at second base
and knows the first and Louis Apperricchio is a still
gone belly fuck stepping in. It will be the second
time up for him. In listening cast. Milwaukee scored seven

(01:26:10):
runs against Bob Turley and knocked him out in the
very first inning the second game of the World Series
of Milwaukee last year. There were no errors in that barrage.
Aliburn walks and hidles ob all one has served up
to Nelle Fox. He walked in the first inning and scored.

(01:26:31):
He doubled in the third inning and scored. Turn brawls
late swing and he sends one twisting the left foul
out of play. One on one, the Socks have nine

(01:27:02):
runs on eight hips. Early when it's second, Fox sends
one spinning right out by Kochanella, just missing one ball.
Two stripers. Roger Craig started the game. He was lifted

(01:27:24):
midway through this third inning, the tarring right headed Charon
throws of oz Grass cut it down the shot. A
pickup is made by Maray Wills over the first in
time and that's the final one an inning all for Chicago,
seven runs on six hips. There were three Dodger eras
and one man left off Anathy and the three Evan

(01:27:46):
will play. The score reads Chicago nine Los Angeles.

Speaker 4 (01:27:50):
Nothing look sharp sharp the sharply listen, mister, how are
you fix.

Speaker 1 (01:28:07):
Me sure? For the war making shame and mine? How

(01:28:28):
we have a change for you at third base for
these socks, Sammy Spacedo is going in Hilly Goodman coming out.
We understand that Snyder comes up with a record two
hours and one in and World Series competition. Seven runs
were scored, and I do believe three hours and one

(01:28:50):
inning might fIF on a World Series record. But with
it all, the White Socks have really stepped out front.
Will be leading off in the top half of the
fourth inning, all ready to go off. That's the seed

(01:29:15):
Doll playing at third base, and you will find that
Lopez will be juggling that position quite a bit during
the series. All Right, A top ball card A second
base I doubt if they gotta play they do not.
Moon beats it out a drag punt and a base
hit for Wale Moon. Most of you probably remember this

(01:29:37):
if you followed baseball for any length of time. But
the most runs scored and any one inning by one
club was the fabulous Athletics in eighteen twenty nine. They
scored ten runs in one inning to beat the Cups.
That was to day that they were trailing eight to nothing.
And the fellow who won the game in that tremendous
inning for the age is attending the game today, a

(01:29:58):
well known Jimmy Dikes, who now the skipper of the
Detroit Tigers in the American League. Here's Duke Snyder batting
against when one man on nobody else five ball just
follow this food one one a riot is third inning

(01:30:24):
for Chicago. They lead nine to nothing. Snyder the first
trip drew a base on ball long fly ball the
right pail. However, it hangs up and rivera is over
and just inside the line as all for Snyder one down. Tomorrow,

(01:30:54):
the second game of the World Series will be coming
from Chicago, and it'll be on at five Eastern daylight time.
Johnny Padres will pitch against Bob Shaw and if you
can't be here, Mel Allen and I will be on
the air to bring it your way. Outfielder arm Locker.

(01:31:15):
They've really had him flying through that outfield, haven't they.
As a batter. He lined out to Jimmy Rivera in
the first inn outside the ball most of the time.
Early Wind has had to work hard for his victories.

(01:31:35):
A thirty nine year older now has a nine run
edge on the stretch. He frows wide to and all

(01:31:57):
They have blocked out a few of these seats in
the center field bleachers sections to give a better background.
With the batter outside high right and all Win has

(01:32:21):
given up two hits, both infield singles. Strike Bryan Way

(01:32:51):
the steady Early when moved to the fight with a
strike toe Haw Vallymon located at first one out. We're

(01:33:14):
on the top half of the fourth hunting Locker sends
a high, twisting fowl down the left field line and
it's getting over near the seats and ricochets back onto
the playing field. Al Smith was digging that time and
came very close to getting ahold of it. Pray too,

(01:33:51):
Waiting for Smith to return the left, they resumed fly
ball well hit to center, find us backing off fan
the ball Hawks surrounds it go god, that's all for
an arm locker. First baseman Gil Hodges Gill coming around

(01:34:27):
for the second turn he let off in the second inning,
skied off to Al Smith and left again. The scoreboard
reading nine to nothing, the Chicago White Sox lead in
the first game of the World Series. Long drive to
left field. Is it coming fall? It is a fall
into those lower box seats, sprang one. Do some of

(01:35:10):
the fans who haven't seen the White Sox during the season,
they have really put on a show today. They're out front,
find nothing. They're waiting now for the second pitch to
Gil Hodges sends one spinning out over second base. It's
a hit, and while I Moon moves on down the
line the second it's our runners at first and second

(01:35:32):
base waiting for Johnny Roseborough. The Dodgers, of course, have

(01:35:52):
been behind in games this year. They haven't been behind
nine to nothing early in the game very often, I
can tell you that. But we have seen them on
many occasions come from behind a win. And you'll remember
in the middle of September they were trailing and came
on to beat up two ball clubs now walking in
San Francisco. Now strike one his call. The official ruling

(01:36:21):
on the play a moment agaw on the ball. It
was hip towards second baseman Neil. They ruled an arrow
against Neil on a load thrall that got by Johnny
Roseboro two on two of it's a strike. Strength to

(01:36:50):
our Rosebarrow was in the process of going around a swing.
He checked his swing and played umpire somewhere says it's
good enough for a strike inside. That was that famous

(01:37:10):
early Win knuckleball. And he loves Detroit when he gets
ahead of the batter one and two. Now, this is
a second scoring threat that Rodgers have had, two out,

(01:37:32):
two on swing it he's out win for a fastball
outside and roseborog chased it. So if Coron's two hits
and Twill left on miss score. As we now go
into the last half of the fourth inning, Chicago nine,
Los Angeles another in our fans, this is the first

(01:37:57):
World Series game where every one of the Chicago team
except early Win, Al Smith, Earl Turguson, and Sherman Lawler.
And it's my first chance to be on the Gillette
Calvalcade of Sports. But believe me, I've been a Gellette
man for many, many years. A Gillette razor has always
been taught for my money. But that new adjustable, man,
that is really something you yourself, a Justice razor to

(01:38:20):
suit your skin, your beer. It's so easy. All it
takes is a turn of the miproperty dial on the
handle of the Gillette adjustable. Now remember there are nine
different numbered settings. The lower numbers give you less blade
as exposure. The higher numbers more you get, clean, refreshing shades,
fast shades. It make you look and feel like a midget.

(01:38:43):
Try the Gelett adjustable on our guarantee of complete satisfaction
or your money back. It costs only a dollar ninety
five and that includes a dispenser of Gillette blue blades
and handsome travel case. Ready to go and leading off

(01:39:17):
for the White Sox Jim Landers. Some of the managers
that I've talked to in the American League tell me,
one of these days this fellow is likely to be
another will he made the way he flies in the
outfield of all one inside In the American League, They'll

(01:39:38):
tell you that nobody can touching going for a fly ball,
and how he's hitting the ball today? Landers. He has
two for two and two runs score and one run
better to Cross Owe, I'll strike the socks had eleven

(01:40:04):
batters come up in the wild pre dinner, there's another
base hit for that Landis. Oh is he ever hot
a single the left or Jim Landers?

Speaker 4 (01:40:16):
What?

Speaker 1 (01:40:17):
I'll wait a break into a World Series? And I
know those fans and followers of land Us back in California.
I'm mighty proud of it. Big boy Ted Klasiski, what
an imposing sight he is. He always cuts his shirt

(01:40:39):
sleeve off high up on the shoulder and exposes those
huge biceps. He has a single and a home run
to right, three runs batter the cross rookie Turn goes
over the first base, land Us back hind and nothing.

(01:41:07):
Chicago leaves first game of the nineteen fifty nine World Series,
O scretch Float takes a sweep and fowls Us one

(01:41:30):
out of play one one. The Fellaws now have nine
runs and nine hips. Once again, you can hear them

(01:41:51):
carrying for Landis. They want him to steal how they
loved to run the Chicago output outside. Just a little
more of that Landis makes while the pitcher is on
the stretches enough to upset you. And of course app
Riccio is even greater on that move right handed. Clym

(01:42:13):
Lubine now cuning up in the bullpen upside twin one.
Socks started early with two runs in the first inning.
They took advantage of free miss cues and the third
and also had a barrage six hips and produced seven runs.

(01:42:42):
Turn on the glow. Ecko is a runner, the hip
and run is on, and Clove fouls it off. Now
you'll remember those two put a hip run on in
the first inning and it'd helped lead the two runs.

(01:43:06):
Hodges has called for time first baseman moving over to
the mound. Three of the six I should say that
three of the nine rounds are charges against turned Craig
was a stutter, keeps an eye on Landis, fires a

(01:43:32):
ball back the first phase. He's safe him rolls two strikes.

(01:43:54):
A Los Angeles ride, had a cross a curve and
call let's go on over the long stile order Field
hit the home under the effort back and the money

(01:44:32):
and breaks lost. In Chicago on the south side has
Kid Kuzuski to go one better. Hits this fall into
the effort deck in right field, and the White Sox
have two more. They're running away from the Dodgers now
eleven to nothing. Two home runs for Kwazuski and two

(01:44:53):
consecutive times at bat. Kazuski has three for three in
this game, and that might be the for Young Chuck
turns two runs on two hits. An The White Sox
were never noted for the home run hitting during the season.
What they're really showing us home run power today, offered

(01:45:15):
up Bye Mester ten Feodora Klosowski. We're waiting for another picture.
We pause now thirty seconds.

Speaker 8 (01:45:23):
For station identification WGYWGFM, Schenectady World Series time, party time,
or anytime your thirst demand's bright, refreshing satisfaction. Treat yourself
to genuine Saratogavishi. Enjoy its extra dry flavor and sparkling tang.

Speaker 5 (01:45:39):
Now Sarahtoga Ishi Yello label, Salatoga Ishi Yello label Sarah Tooga.

Speaker 8 (01:45:49):
Catch dividend days at Troy Savings Bank right now. Deposits
made before October fifteenth urn a big three and a
quarter percent from October first.

Speaker 1 (01:45:56):
Free parking right hander Quinn Levine is making that long
slow walk from the center field bullpen. Well, how about this,
Ted Klozowski. Today, fans He's hit two homers, he has
five rbiyes, and Chuck Churn is gonna leave the game.

(01:46:31):
There's nobody out here in the port. The Churn fits
two thirds of a nunny five hits.

Speaker 2 (01:46:48):
He gave up.

Speaker 1 (01:46:53):
Now it appears to me today that the World Series
history is being made. This is really a frommendous bark Love,
at least through the early rounds of this first game
the White Sox. This is quite surprising in view of
the fact of the White Sox have been a team
known as a team that beats you with the base

(01:47:14):
hit or a walk, a sacrifice, a stolen base, another
base hit, and suddenly they have broken loose with tremendous power,
so that it has been a complete reversal of form.
And that's, of course, if I may be a little
bit naive, is what makes it all so wonderful. You
really don't know what's going to happen. Of course, records

(01:47:37):
have been tied right and left. I don't really want
to bore the people all of these statistics. Most home
runs in a game, the Babe hit three and of
course I've been many who have hit two, and of
course it's two in a row here. But we'll give
them the statistics in so far as the records a
little bit later. I believe too that Mel could tell

(01:47:58):
you that the White Socks were practically last in their
own league in home runs. I do believe they hit
more home runs against Cleveland now then Cleveland hit against Chicago.
But be that as it may. Klezuski has really led
the parade so far. Now, clem Levine, the old curve
water is up there working and his apartment is now

(01:48:19):
shirm ladder outside ball on the third Dodger pitcher has
hentered the ball game. Clem Levine, right hender from Moonstock
and Rhode Island has beens considered over the years one
of the top relievers in the game. Wall two is
the law now. Catcher Laler had a sacrifice fly which

(01:48:44):
was good enough to get a run home in the
first then he was saved on a two base earra
by Duke Smider in the third inning. Eleven to nothing,
Chicago leaves nobody on. Kazuski took here that apply ball
to left while Moon is giving way to Snyder and

(01:49:06):
Snyder's days.

Speaker 2 (01:49:07):
Let us to the eye.

Speaker 1 (01:49:08):
It appears to me that Moon and Snyder are having
a little diffic gully with a wind that's coming off
Lake Michigan today, and there are a few wind currents,
and the tough sun field at this time of day
is left field, one doubt. Two runs across spaceda is

(01:49:35):
a better. After a White Sox built up a good lead,
Lopez decided to bring in Semi E s p O.

Speaker 4 (01:49:48):
S I.

Speaker 1 (01:49:48):
T Oh makes his home right here in Chicago. He's
a right headed butter or two low and outside yeah,
twenty seven years older and a very very good spot

(01:50:10):
ball player. Straight two in one land us with a
single Klosiski with a hommer accounting for two more here
in the poor straight to two the line in the

(01:50:48):
pullmotion inside law of ball three now clem. Usually he's
right around the place. Over the years, he's been known
for his great breaking stuff and excellent control. Carols a

(01:51:12):
robber deliveries strin three. Car Levine records a strikeout.

Speaker 2 (01:51:20):
To Gan.

Speaker 1 (01:51:22):
I'm so all hope for Sammy s Posito outfielder Al Smith.
He was out on strikes, but then he turned and
got a double.

Speaker 2 (01:51:35):
The left.

Speaker 1 (01:51:36):
He hit one over the head of Wally Moon at
ricocheted off of the concrete wall and left and later
scored the eighth Chicago Rock, piling up an eleven to
nothing lead. That's the story of a White Sox. A
five ball hit pretty deep to right center, Schnyder and

(01:51:57):
Locker coming together. Oh wantson Locker for the out. So
in the fourth innings, two runs on two hips and
putting a homer by Klazwiski and nobody left on and
at the end of four to four it's the White
Sox eleven Los Angeles Dodgers nothing in Chicago. They're having

(01:52:24):
a merry time, to say. The leads for their beloved
White Socks are riding high on the crest of the
first game right now, eleven to nothing. There will be
a second game here tomorrow and it will be starting
at one forty five tomorrow eastern daylight time. Johnny Podres
has been announced as a pitcher against Bob Shaw. No

(01:52:47):
game on Saturday, and the third game of the World
Series from the Coliseum in La on Sunday, starting at
four forty five Eastern daylight time. Marie Wills, leading on
right hander Win has been a masterful pitcher out there.

(01:53:11):
He's only allowed three hits. There's a little chump ball
down to second base. Fox up over the Klosluski and
Maray Wills, who can fly, is thrown out one away.
It appears to me that Chuck a Siegion is coming
out about Lullaby, Chuck Chuck a Siegeon. Here's another Californian

(01:53:42):
who was in the Major League sent back to the minors.
A powerful right hander with the Dodgers. In approximately two
months of play, he hit two forty seven. A right

(01:54:02):
hander fighting for Clym Lebon wind draws too high, bowing

(01:54:25):
once again. They've got Lefty Colfax warming up in the
bullpen a stage and goes around and missus one and
one one out top half of the fifth Hunning swinging

(01:54:47):
straight two. That's not famous early when butterfly fits. Better
known as the knuckleball h Our Siegeon is an outfielder
high two balls do strikes Chuck at one time along

(01:55:15):
with the Phillies two years ago. He opened the season
and picked up two doubles at Cincinnati, so we helped
Robin Roberts.

Speaker 2 (01:55:22):
To a victory.

Speaker 1 (01:55:23):
Later was traded over to La Great three he's out
winds breaking stuff is really terrific. He records another strikeout.
It's fourth of the game. Joe out leadoff better Junior

(01:55:49):
Gilliam all for to today, So all right, paw about

(01:56:17):
a pall He went for a change up streak two.
Now White Sox have eleven runs on ten hits. They're
playing hairless ball. The Dodgers no runs, three hits and
they've committed three miscute two out of nobody on ball

(01:56:40):
falling right, Galli, I am a very nervous type hitter.
He genuinely wishes the bad out front change up. The
hoops it up this way, pow. Chicago picked up two

(01:57:12):
runs on the person. They broke loose for seven runs
in the third inning, and they added two more in
the poor strike pro call. Win's getting hunters of our game.
Roles another strikeout number five, and it's no runs, no hits,

(01:57:34):
and nobody left on moving in to the last half
of the fifth name Chicago eleven LA nothing out here
in Chicago today. It's party and cool temp me toure
sixty four. But hey, it wasn't this summer a real
squad youre. I'll tell you one thing, Gall It's here

(01:57:56):
made me appreciate the refreshing pickup that you got from
shading Green dream Yes, and that reminds me that gle

it is an extreme pleasure for me to bring to

(01:58:58):
the microphone an old friend of mine of LOFE sending.
I'm consider him pumps in our business and he's worked
on many money a world series. I put you now
in the hands of mel Allen. Hello there, everybody, thank
you very much by and what a workouts you had
in your World Series debut. Eleven and nothing in favor
of the Chicago White Sox as we come into the

(01:59:20):
last half the fifth inning, Sandy Coopax, a native of Brooklyn,
New York, and now resides in Los Angeles. A six
foot two hundred and four pounder who is approaching his
twenty fourth birthday, had a record of eight and six
on the season, and of course turned into magnificent performance

(01:59:42):
this year when he struck out eighteen men in one
game to tie Bob Keller's record. Got a good curve,
his control to sometimes erratic, and we're all set now.
As the left hander comes in to face Jim Rivera,
who fouled the first and grounded the second in the
fielder's choice play, the result in an era. The left
tangent of the wind up in comes the pitch and

(02:00:04):
it's a fastball inside ball one. A lot of new
records have been put into the book today, and some
tide who backs to the wind up delivers. Jim Rivera
swings and it's a high fly ball into right field.
Dorm locker moving under the wind blows it toward the

(02:00:26):
line and he makes the catch. One away. Early wind
will be coming out and we'll get a round of applause.
The eleven men that came to bat in the third
inning when the White Sox scored seven the fourth short
of the record the A's when they scored ten runs
in the inning, which BYA told you about. Here's a

(02:00:46):
hand for early win. When the A's in nineteen twenty
one nineteen twenty nine set the World Series record for
most runs in an inning ten against the Cubs, they
sent fifteen men to the late win. The switch hitter
batting right handed now against Sandy kufax In, comes the pitch,

(02:01:09):
fastball over strike one. Win, hit to the box and
double the left outfield just about straight away. Next pitch
swung on and missed strike two and Win really a
wheel on that one. He was trying to join clue

(02:01:32):
coup facts into the wind up round comes the left
arm the pitch and it's in there for called strike three,
two away, and some of the White Sox fans still
give Win a rippled clause. His returns to the White
Sox dug out little Louis Aparicio from Venezuela hopped the

(02:01:52):
short line to right and tapped to the box. Right
hand hitter Jim Gilliam shortened up at third. Coupe Facts
working fast delivers fastball swung on and missed strike one.
Wally Moon claims straight away left s Night is shaded
a little in the left center. Larker almost straight away right.

(02:02:17):
Coupe Fact's next delivery and overhand fastball looped over short
on in the left center, coming on fast as Moon
makes a fine running catch, and that retires the side.
No runs, no hits, no errors, no one left on,
and at the end of five innings of play, the
store of the White Sox eleven the Dodger's nothing. Now,

(02:02:40):
with the miracle of guided medicine, you can relieve your
cough as easily as you relieve a headache. Take the
reson the guided cough medicine that goes to the right
spot your cough control center. Doctors, No, coughing is not
controlled in the throat. Your throat merely follows orders from
the cough control center, which sends the message and you

(02:03:04):
cough now. Ordinary cough syrups don't even touch the cough
center until now. Only cough medicines with narcotics could depress
this cough center, but narcotics may leave undesirable side effects.
Instead of narcotics, Thorrexin contains demuthorphen fororexon soothes your throat,

(02:03:25):
then speed through your bloodstream directly to the cough control center.
Thorexin releaves coughing like aspirin, relieves headaches fast, sure safe
for the whole family. So get thorrexen, the guided cough medicine.

(02:03:48):
In the first half of the sixth inning, Charlie Neil,
hitting second in the order, will be followed by Moon
and Snyder. Neil beat out a roller the thing third
in the first thing grounded to short early win breezing
along into the wind up round comes the right arm,

(02:04:09):
in comes the pitch swung on line in the left
field her base hit. Al Smith up for the ball,
whips his throw back into Louis Afrasio, and Charlie Neil
comes up with his second base hit of the ball game.
Now Wally Moon, who popped his short and beat on
an infield hit left hand batter, steps in with Duke's

(02:04:33):
nighter to follow White Sox leading eleven to nothing. Somebody
had to lead. But the surprise is the enormity of
the score. Win checks. The runner looks over the left shoulder,
the pitch swung on little roller hit down to first
to clue, he takes it, makes the shure out at

(02:04:55):
first base unassisted as Neil moves on. The second went away.
And here is Duke Snyder, who walked and flied to right,
a fellow who has set so many positive records and
tied them in World Series play in the past, but
who set a new record today when he made two

(02:05:15):
errors in one inning. And that's a record for most
errors in an inning by an outfielder. But it would
take us a few minutes to tell you about all
the positive records that Duke has put into the books.
Here's the delivery, swung on to high pop up down
the left field line, back up third, the wind holds it,
moving over. Esposito makes the catch right at the edge

(02:05:38):
of the sands, with Aparicio sprinting over and standing right
behind him. Snyder files out to Esposito, who had replaced
Goodman two down. And here's Norm Marcker who flied to
Wright and flied to center left hand batter sixth inning,

(02:06:06):
eleven to nothing White Sox first game the World Series,
two men away, Charlie Neil on second base. Win to
the stretch, checks the runner. Here's the pitch, high outside
ball one. I feel playing straight away when ready, in

(02:06:35):
comes the delivery. It's in there for a strike breaking pitch.
Gil Hodges on deck when taking his time. Now nil

(02:06:56):
on second, two away, first half the sixth inning. Win,
steps off the rubber as Charlie Neil danced way off
second base. Neither Apprecio nor Fox were trying to hold
him close. Went again to the stretch, looked around, still

(02:07:17):
eyes on on and out of the pitch, and it's
high and away a two to one count, two balls,
one strike. Neil leading away from second, unmolested, wind delivers

(02:07:42):
swung on and missed just fastballs, strike two to two.
Pee wee Ree's coaching at third, Greg Malay at first

(02:08:04):
two balls, two strikes, two outs. Neil leading away, and
then time is asked for by Norm Marker and he
steps out. Now he moves back in a hitting position.
Went again to the stretch, checks the runner. Here's the pitch,
swung on a ground ball, hit file down. The first
baseline count remains two balls and two strikes. Johnny Padres

(02:08:31):
will be pitching for the Dodgers tomorrow, Bob Shaw for
the White Sox, and then the series will move on
after a day rest or an open date for traveling
to the Los Angeles Coliseum. Went again to the stretch.

(02:08:54):
Two balls, two strikes, two outs. Here's the pitch swung
on and missed the highest fastball struck him out, norons,
one hit, no arrows, one left on, six strikeouts for win.
And at the end of five and a half innings
the White Sox eleven, the Dodgers nothing. The capacity crowd
out here today in the neighborhood of forty eight to

(02:09:18):
fifty thousand, and how these Chicago fans have supported their
team this year. As a matter of fact, they set
an all time Comisky Park attendance record. And speaking of records, Chicago,
along with the rest of the country, has gone all
out for the Gelett adjustable. Now, if you haven't seen
this remarkable new razor, then by all means be sure
you do. Never before has there been anything like it.

(02:09:41):
You set an adjusting collar on the handle to match
your skin and beard. You can turn to nine different
degrees of edge, exposure and angle within this range, there's
a setting that delivers you clean shaves, fast shaves with
a comfort that's nothing short of sensational. Gellette guarantees that
or your money back. The Gellett Adjustable costs only a

(02:10:04):
dollar ninety five cents, complete with Gellette Blue Blade dispenser
and travel cakes.

Speaker 2 (02:10:15):
Number two.

Speaker 1 (02:10:19):
Blade shutters Summer. In the last half of the sixth inning,
Don Demit has gone in to replace Duke Snyder in centerfield.
The Duke has been plagued with a knee injury, and
so with a White Sox well ahead eleven and nothing,
Don Demoner goes into replacing. In the last of the

(02:10:44):
sixth Nelson Fox leads off for the White Sox. He walked,
doubled and grounded to short the pit swung on, filed
back upstairs onto the roof, Strike one. Sandy Kopax, the
fourth Dodger pitcher, came on last and got the side
out in one two three fashion. Gilliam shortened up at third.

(02:11:10):
Next pitch is into the dirt one ball one strike.
Fox is a spray hitter, hits a lot to left
and left center. Moon is playing him well over to
the left field line. Don Demader, the replacement for Snyder,
shaded into the left center while Norm Lrker is just

(02:11:31):
a little bit off straight away right who facts still
the wind up round comes the left arm to pitch
the fox oning on. It's a high pop in the
very short left. Coming on is Wally Moon and he
makes the catch in behind Maury Wills, who had gone
out one down in the sixth. And here is Jim Landers,

(02:11:53):
who has three for three single the right, center, the
right and the left. Here's the pitch swung on a
bouncer hits the short. Wills takes into the big hop,
throws on the hodges and Landis is out at first,

(02:12:15):
two up and two down. And here is Kuzuski, and
listen to the hand. Kazuski with firefruns batted in single
the right in the first inning and hit consecutive homers
in the third and fourth innings. Outfield moves around to

(02:12:41):
the right. Mister Mussel squares away who backs into the
wind up. In comes the pitch swung on little bouncer
by the mound. The slow roller kneel up with it
across the body, flip in time pour the out on
a beautiful play by the second baseman who is magnificent
on that throw across the body as he charges in
on a slow hit ball. No runs, no hits, no errors,

(02:13:01):
no one left on and at the end of six
innings of play, the White Sox eleven the Dodgers. Nothing
for the Dodgers. Johnny roseburro On Beck and Morey Wills
to bottle. Hodges flied to left and single to center.
He's had one for two White Sox leading eleven to nothing.

(02:13:25):
For the seven run third inning, the outfield plays Hodges
to pull, shaded George left in center and left almost
gray way right. I have a little action now in
the Dodger bullpen. Win checking with Sherman Lawler swings to

(02:13:52):
the wind up, round comes the right arm, in comes
the pitch, and it's in. Therefore strike Johnny Coupstein is
warming up for the Dodgers. Waal Austin said before the
series began, not making any excuses, but just merely analyzing
the situation, the result of the playoffs and the big finish.

(02:14:12):
The pitchers retired. Here's the pit swung on and filed back.
The most wrested man was Roger Craig, who started, but
the White Sox quickly got him out of there. In
the fourth inning, Craig was charged with fire bronze Chuck
churned with six. The Bayan and Coupbacks have come in

(02:14:35):
to stem the White Sox tied. Now the two strike
pits for the right hand batter, Gil Hodges takes it
into the dirty have out in front and skipped by
as German lawler. Early Win, who's a very amiable fellow,
pleasant smile when he's out on that mound, is completely different.
He's a stony faced veteran. He stares you down, never

(02:14:58):
gives into a hitter. One of the greatest competitors in
the game. Here's the delivery and little tamp hit to
the mound on a check swing, went up with it,
puts to Klezuski and Hodges is retired. Now coming to
bat and Johnny Roseboro, who popped his short and struck

(02:15:21):
out early Win, who is a native of Hartford, Alabama
and lives in Oaklomas, Florida, now fifteen among the all
time winners among Major league pitchers, delivers the left hand
batter basketball and therefore strike. He moves that ball around

(02:15:50):
in and out, up and down at thirty nine. A
magnificent pitcher. Still the pit swung on and filed back
out of play. No balls, two strikes, White Sox eleven
Dodgers nothing, seventh thinning a two strike count wednesdaying ahead

(02:16:19):
of the hitters, into the wind up around comes the
right arm the pitch, and it's a little high one
and two. The Dodgers winning the National League pennant this year,
coming from seventh, did a magnificent job, and it was

(02:16:42):
a real team effort. The one two pitch on its way,
it's high ball two. Johnny Rosebar at bat from Compton, California.

(02:17:04):
When do the wind up in comes? The t two
pitch swung on, grounded on the first base line from
one of the field attendants, let the ball roll through
his legs and some of the fans started reaching fort
and rolled by many clutching hands seeking the World Series souvenir.

(02:17:26):
Two balls, two strikes on the left hand batter. When
do the wind up in comes the pitch and rose
Borro swings the lips of high pop up toward first
Krazuski calling fort fox right near him and in foul
territory two feet found in behind first base. Rose Burrows
retired on a pop up to Ted Vezzuski, who himself

(02:17:49):
says it's a wonderful feeling to be in a World Series.
Never had been in one that Cincinnati with Pittsburgh, and suddenly,
towards the end of the year, the White Sox acquired
his contract from Twosburg. And he says, here I am,
he said, hard to believe. Mary Wills up left hand batter,
takes it high for a ball. Well, he made her

(02:18:11):
believer out a lot of folks as well as himself
with a booming bat. There one nothing pitch on its
way to Wills, swings and files it back out of
play one and won the count. Flu said, as a

(02:18:34):
matter of fact that his bank feels much better. Doesn't
give him much pain. Though he had not hit many
homers since joining the White Sox, as by some told you,
only two, but he began to get more distance toward
the end of the season. Here's the pitch swung online
by a third in the left field by Mary Wells
for a basit. Al Smith tosses back into Louis Aparisio

(02:18:58):
and Wills singles to left for the fifth Dodger hit.
And we're going to have a pinch hitter. A Copper
or Sandy Kupax.

Speaker 2 (02:19:15):
Ron Fairly. Ron Fairley.

Speaker 1 (02:19:29):
Five and seventy five pounder born in Macon, Georgia, lives
in Long Beach, California. Stocky left hand hitter, just twenty
one years old from southern California. The pitch is swung on.

(02:19:50):
It hits a slow bouncer wide at first, two goes over, grabs,
it flips the wind covering in time, and the side
is retired. No, Ron's nowhere is one left off And
at the end of six and a half I thinks
the store is the White Sox eleven the Dodgers. Nothing easy.

(02:20:10):
As you tuned in this ballgame, friends, you can dial
just the kind of shave you want with a new
Gellette one ninety five adjustable that's right on the handle
of this razor is a micrometer dial with markings from
one to nine. Yes, there are nine different adjustments of
edge exposure and angle. A turn to the left gives

(02:20:31):
you less blade edge. Turn the dial to the right
and more blade edge is exposed. Men with light beards,
heavy beards, tender skin, any combination in the book are
guaranteed clean, long lasting shaves comfort they may never have
thought possible. That's a positive money back guarantee. The get

(02:20:53):
adjustable razor complete for the dispenser of Gellett Blue blades
and travel case cost only a dollar ninety five. In
the last half of the seventh inning, Johnny Klipstein comes

(02:21:13):
in to pitch. White Sox fans, who of course predominate
here today, are up for their seventh inning stretch. They
waited forty years for this World Series, not all of them,
of course, because some of them not forty years old.
But the last tenant the White Sox won was in

(02:21:36):
nineteen nineteen. They had of course won pre penance previously,
and now Johnny Clipstein comes in to take over. Sandy Kupax,
who came on in the fifth, worked two perfect innings,
three up and three down Barlack in each inning. Sherman

(02:22:01):
Laller will be leading off for the White Sox in
the last of the seventh Sam Esposito on deck and
Al Smith to follows. The White Sox won the first
American League pennant in nineteen oh one, but there was
no World Series. The first World Series was played in

(02:22:22):
nineteen oh three. The White Sox won again in nineteen
oh six and beat the crosstown rivals, the Chicago Cubs
four out of six, and then in nineteen seventeen when
the White Sox next one, they beat the Giants four
out of six, but lost to Cincinnati nineteen nineteen five
out of eight. The Dodgers, on the other hand, have

(02:22:47):
been in nine World Series. This is the tenth, and
they've only won one out of the nine which they participated.
Right handed Johnny clip Stein, we had a record of
pouring nothing on the season, pitching to Sherman Lawler, the
delivery low outside for a ball. Clipstein only appeared in

(02:23:10):
twenty eight games, mostly in relief, worked only forty six innings.
Here's the pitch swung on and filed off out of
play a one to one count. The brilliant sunshine that
prevailed when the first game of the World Series began

(02:23:30):
has now given away to cloudy skies, and the temperature
is dropping somewhat below the sixty four that it was
at noontime. Clipstein delivers to Lala, blow and away ball
two two and one. Lala hit a sacrifice fly to
right son in the first inning, was safe on an

(02:23:52):
Arabia Snyder in the third on a fly ball to
center and he flied to center again. In the fourth.
Here's the pitch swung on all off at the plate,
White socks eleven. The Dodger's nothing. It's the last of
the seven. You know by it's an eyevy. If a
team ever has to lose the game, they'd rather lose

(02:24:13):
it eleven or nothing. Not that this one is over,
but they'd rather lose it this way than three to
two are one to nothing, lot of that. I mean, well,
I think you're absolutely right, and I'm just looking. I
think the highest shutout total this would tie a record, provided,
of course, Early keeps going. Lotar swings at the next
pitch grounds at the third Gilliams left up with it

(02:24:34):
over the first end time, and there's one away.

Speaker 6 (02:24:39):
Now.

Speaker 1 (02:24:40):
Sam Esposito, who took over defensively in the fourth inning
for Billy Goodman, a native of Chicago. Al Lopez try
and get a little more punch in his batting order.
Starts Goodman. If he gets ahead, he puts Esposito in
the right hand. Batter takes low outside for one ball,

(02:25:01):
no strikes. Esposito appeared in sixty nine games this year
and batted one sixty seven. Clipstein's pitch gets the outside
corner of the fastball and count as one and one,
one ball, one strike. I feel shaded little toward left.

(02:25:27):
Clipstein working rapidly. Here's the pitch and it's low outside,
two and one, one away. In the last of the
seventh inning, the two to one pitch swung on, filed

(02:25:50):
off back the first out of play, up onto the
pavilion route. You got a kick out of seeing Red
Faber and Ray Shawk as a battery throwing out the

(02:26:10):
first pitch. Here's the delivery, swung on, hit right back
to box. Penalfy grabbed by Clipstein to throw the first
end time one of those shots that most of the
time go right through the middle. Johnny went down to
the glove and spirit it and Esposito is retired now.
Al smith We took a third strike, doubled the left
and fled to center. Appeared in the World Series of

(02:26:34):
the Indians in nineteen fifty four and they lost four
straight to the Giants. Hit two fourteen in that series
a clutch player. Clipstein's delivery over that outside corner for
a strike. As the series develops, plays may not develop,

(02:26:54):
but Smithy is the kind of a guy may throw
the key run out of the player. Come up in
the late innings and get the key base hit. He
swings and loops one down the right field line and
is in there for a base hit. He had Larker
playing over in the right center and Smith rounds first
and goes into second with a double. He sliced it
along the right field line and gets himself a double,

(02:27:19):
his second double of the ball game. He's had three
extra base hits down World Series play. He had a
homer in nineteen fifty four. Jim Rivera fouled the first,
grounded the second, and flied to right. He's got quite

(02:27:43):
a hitch in his swing, clips down to the stretch
and the pitch curveball line foul down the right field
line parallel with the right field line in the upper deck.
One strike in the pennant clinching game for the White Sox,

(02:28:04):
Smith and Rivera hit back to back homers to break
a two to two tie and give the White Sox
a four to two win over Cleveland that clinched the
pennant for them. The thirty thirty seven year old left

(02:28:30):
hand Banner takes a strike fastball in there, just above
the knees he's quite a hustling ball player, doesn't mind
climbing walls or diving. Two men out Smith on second

(02:28:50):
and two strikes on Jim Rivera, I feel shaded. Jeorde Wright,
Johnny Clipstein. Ready in comes the pitch, fastball, We'll swung
on and missed strike three, really potted it by no
Ron's one hit. Nowhere is one left on and at
the end of seven innings the score is the White

(02:29:12):
Sox eleven, the Dodger's nothing. Now, with the miracle of
guided medicine, you can relieve your cough as easily as
you relieve a headache. Take thorrexen, the guided cough medicine
that goes to the right spot, your cough control center.
Doctors know coughing is not controlled in the throat. Your

(02:29:35):
throat merely follows orders from the cough control center, which
sends the message and you cough. Now. Ordinary cough syrups
don't even touch the cough center. Until now, only cough
medicines with narcotics could depress this cough center, but narcotics
may leave undesirable side effects. Instead of narcotics, Thorexin contains

(02:29:59):
demuthorphin forrexson soothes your throat, then speed through your bloodstream
directly to the cough control center. Therecsen release coughing like aspirin,
relieves headaches fast, sure, safe for the whole family. So
get forresen the guided cough medicine. The seven inning totals

(02:30:22):
the White Sox eleven runs, eleven hits, no errors, The
Dodgers no runs, five hits and three errors. In the
eighth inning hits the top of the dodge order. Jim Gilliam,
Charlie Neil, and Wally Moon early, when seeking his first

(02:30:50):
World Series victory, denied that. In the fifty four World
Series when he pitched for the Indians, set to work
to Gilliam, Benning left handed against him, nothing for three.
They pitch is high outside ball one. Gilliam grounded to
shorten the first inning, popped out the second and the third,
and looked at the third strike. In the fifth inning,

(02:31:11):
Esposito shortened up at third the outfield straight away Aparicio
in a step or two. It's short, Nelly Fox shading
second more than first, and in the step from the outfield,
grass Zuski guarding the line. Wind delivers high and away
ball two. You have to shorten up a little bit

(02:31:35):
on get him in the infield. He's good at laying
down a bunt, anything to try and get something started.
In an inny, the two nothing pitch swung on hip
foul down the right field line, out of play, the
ball landing upon the pavilion roof. They paid attendance today
forty eight thousand and thirteen. Forty eight thousand, thirteen, two balls,

(02:32:03):
one strike, wins. Delivery swung on line between third and
short in the left field for a base hit. Al
Smith up for the ball, tossing it back into Leui Aparicio.
Jim Gillium holds up after the turn with a single
to left. And now Charlie Neil, who's had two for

(02:32:24):
three and infield hit and the first inning grounded to
short and the third single the left in the sixth.
He has played great ball for the Dodgers. One of
the finest feeling second basemen in the game is timely
hitting late in the season helped the Dodgers move into
the Pennant win to the stretch, texts Gilliam. Now the

(02:32:48):
pitch outside gets away from Lawlor, but not part up
for any advance. Wind throws almost everything in the book,
including a knuckleball, and he gets ahead of you, changes
his speeds and all of his pitches and keeps that

(02:33:08):
ball moving in, out, up, down, and around. The right
hander checks the runner. Here's the pitch, the Neil Low
outside ball two. And now we're having some action in
the White Sox. Bull En, at thirty nine years of age,
early during the season, has sometimes begun to weaken in

(02:33:30):
the late innings. Nelly Fox now trots in from second
base to talk to him. And here is Al Lopez
coming out of a White Sox dugout to talk to Win.
Jerry Staley is loosening up for the White Sox, and
Jerry Staley's coming in. Apparently Win either tired or may

(02:33:58):
have sustained some type of injury. But you could see
as he began to lose his control. By all of
a sudden, he was his control was beautiful, and he
gets the hand. As you leave, we shall make every effort,

(02:34:34):
of course, to get some information from the White Sox
dugout as to the exact reason for when leaving, I
had eleven to nothing. There was no indication, in other words,
of his being knocked out or he'd given up the
base hit and fell behind on Charlie Neal. And during

(02:34:55):
the course of the season, Winn appeared in thirty seven games,
all of them in a starting role, and completed fourteen.
So that that indicates, as we told you before, the
freaking retire the very late innings, Jerry Staley coming in.

(02:35:24):
Staley appeared in sixty seven games for the White Sox
this year, all in relief, had the magnificent earned run
average of two point one seven and then the clincher
against the Indians. The Indians in the last of the
ninth loaded the bases with one out and they brought
Staley in to pitch the big power one pitch he

(02:35:46):
grounded a appartio who stepped on second and threw to
first four the double play that ended the game and
brought the first American League pennant through the Chicago White
Sox in forty years. Staley came up with the Cardinals

(02:36:13):
in the National League. In later years developed into quite
a bullpen expert. He moved on to the Yankees and
came on to the White Sox on waivers in nineteen
fifty six. He has a pretty good knuckleball, but his
prime pitch in a clutch is a fine sinker and

(02:36:36):
has enabled him to save many decisions for other staff members.
His most successful season from a one and lost standpoint
was with the Cardinals in nineteen fifty one. He chalked
up nineteen victories in eighteen nineteen fifty three. We've had
word from the White Sox dugouts that early wins right

(02:36:58):
elbow began to stiffen up, and so al Lopez rather
than risk, of course any serious injury, and with this
big lead removes him in favor of Jerry Staley early
when then went seven innings plus nobody out in the eighth,

(02:37:21):
allowing six hits, walked one and struck out six. Do
nothing count now on Charlie Neal Gilliam leading away from first, Staley,

(02:37:42):
a right hander, delivers it's in there for strike. The
next it swung on and grounded foul down the third
baseline two two. Should Neo walk, the walk would be

(02:38:15):
charged to win with a count of two and nothing
or two and one or green one and three and nothing.
That situation exists. Here's the pitch, swung on, ground ball,
hit to half ratio, over to fox for one, back
to first. It's a double play. The boy was a

(02:38:36):
close one at first base. Frank Vascoli of the nast
League up for the right hand, and that's been typical
of Staley coming in with men on and throwing that
sinker and getting the double play. Although Neo with this
speed almost beat it. It was very close play at first.

(02:38:59):
Here's Wally popped the short had an infield hit and
grounded the first left hand battered, takes to strike nothing
in one eleven to nothing White Sox. First half of
the eighth they delivery the moon swung on, bounced to
the box, an underhand tossed the clue, and moon is retired.

(02:39:20):
No runs, one hit, no errors, no one left on,
and so the score at the end of seven and
a half innings remains the White Sox eleven, the Dodgers nothing.
Here we go with a few more words about that
new Gelette one ninety five adjustable racers. This is a
shaving instrument you surely ought to know about. On the

(02:39:41):
handle of the Gillett adjustable, there's a dial with numbers
from one to nine. Each setting provides a different degree
of edge, exposure and angle. At the lower numbers there's
less blade edge as you turn towards the higher numbers,
more and more blade is exposed between one and there's
a stop that guarantees utmost shaving, luxury clean shaves with

(02:40:05):
a comfort every man wants. And it's sold on our
money back guarantee. We guarantee the finest shaves you've ever had,
refreshing shaves that keep you looking your best hour after hour.
You'll find the new Gellett adjustable in trim travel case
with a dispenser of Gellette blue blades at a nearby
store only a dollar ninety five. In the last half

(02:40:41):
of the eighth inning, Jerry Stay will be the first batter,
followed by Louis Aparicio and Nellie Fox. The five runs
batted in by Ted Kleazuski ties a World Series record
most runs batted in the game Tony Missouri for the

(02:41:04):
Yankees in nineteen thirty six and Bill Dickey for the
Yankees in nineteen thirty six. Jerry Staley at batt Johnny
Clipstein's pitch missus outside ball one. Al Lopez ever ready

(02:41:26):
despite the score of a ballgame, as a couple of
men loosening up. Here's the pitch and it's in there
for a strike one and one tomorrow. Johnny Podres, who
won the big game for the Dodgers against the Yankees
when they won the World Series a few years back.
We'll go against Bob Shaw. Now the pitch it's in there.

(02:41:47):
One and two. Jerry Staley at bat from Vancouver, Washington.
Billy Pears suggests loosening up and Barry Latman along with him.
The one two pitch to stay at least swung on
and filed back out of play. It is speculation on

(02:42:12):
our part, but we think Pears is simply loosening up
for a future start. There was some thought that he
might pitch here tomorrow and not in the Coliseum because
of the left field the shortness of the left field
fence there. The next pitch is a curveball over or
call strike three. But on the other hand, Al Lopez

(02:42:35):
figured you'd better go with the young man in case
the series goes six to seven games, who might come
back because in a short series you got to go
with those fellows who can come back with short rest.
And Pears has been having some arm trouble this year,
though on any given day he's one of the best
in the business. Louis Aparicio nothing for four right hand hitter.

(02:42:57):
Epstein's pitch is over the outside corner called strike. Louis
popped a short lined the right, hit to the box
and flied to left. Gilliam shortened up the third to
protect against the bunning ability of this man. Aparicio swing
sens a slow roller out the second, Charlie neel up
with it, clips on the hodges, and Aparicio is retired.

(02:43:24):
Andy High, in his scouting report said, the one funny
you have to keep off base to beat the White
Sox as Aparicios Well, it kept him off base today,
but the White Sox had just turned the form sheet
upside down with the power explosion. Here is Nelson Fox,
who walked double, grounded to short, popped the short, swings

(02:43:46):
and grounds one to second. Neil scoops it up, flips
onto hodges, and that retires the side. No runs, no hits,
no errors, no one left on. At the end of
the eighth inning, the score White Sox eleven Dodgers, nothing

(02:44:17):
just to it that die your with the adjunctible rain.
By July, the shade clean the turency.

Speaker 7 (02:44:41):
What I mean.

Speaker 1 (02:44:49):
We pause now thirty seconds for a station identification.

Speaker 6 (02:44:56):
This is Wgy wgf amsconnect day so they don't miss
the next action fill game of the nineteen fifty nine
World Series. Follow your team, follow every thrilling play on
your World Series station, WGY eight ten on your radio dial.
Tomorrow's game from Chicago gets underway at one forty five
pm on NBC and WGY, your exclusive World Series station.

Speaker 1 (02:45:28):
First half of the ninth inning, the White Sox eleven
the Dodgers nothing. Back. In nineteen thirty four, Dizzy Dean
shut out the Detroit Tigers in the World Series eleven
to nothing, and so far this ties then the World
Series record for the largest shutout in series play. Jerry Staley,

(02:45:51):
pitching to Don Demitur, right hand batter, takes it inside.
Demeter had replaced Snyder last innings. Demoo, tall right hand hitter,
batted two fifty six on the season. Jerry Staley's pitch
is a breaking pitch outside in the count two balls,

(02:46:14):
no strikes. Demono from Oklahoma City, six and eighty pounder,
twenty four years old. The pitch swung on and missed,
threw him a knuckleball in tight two and one. The

(02:46:44):
two to one delivery gets the outside corner breaking pitch
two balls, two strikes. Norm Larker on deck and Gil
Hodges to follow. First of the ninth first game of
the World Series. The veteran Jerry Staley delivers swung on
and miss strike three. One down in the ninth the

(02:47:17):
seventh Dodger to go down on strikes win. Before he retired,
had struck out six. Norm Larker flied to right, flied
to center, and struck out left hand hitter. The pitch
is in there, strike one. Norm Larker, native of Baver Meadows, Pennsylvania,

(02:47:48):
now resides in Mobile, Alabama. Jerry Staley comes in now
with pitch that's outside, ball one one in one. The
seven run explosion in the third inning for your late
tuners in put it away for the White Sox with

(02:48:10):
big Ted Kuzuski getting two consecutive homers in this game,
Staley's delivererate swung on line foul down the right bal line,
out of plays. In fact, for those of you who
are just on your way home, or might have just
gotten home or just had a chance to tune in.

(02:48:32):
The White Sox got two in the first seven and
the third and two in the fourth. The one two
pitch swung on looked over short in the left center
and it's in there for a base hit. Landis goes over,
cuts it off nicely, whoops the throwback into for ratio,
and Larker's held of a single. Landis is capable of

(02:48:55):
showing you some exciting defensive play in center because of
is great speed. That's one of the reasons cover a
lot of ground out there. That makes a difference, of course,
with teams that win a lot of one run ball games,
and you can hold a man to a single instead
of a double, or a double instead of a triple.
The White Sox won thirty five out of fifty one

(02:49:16):
run games this year, and the Dodgers were very much
the same kind of a team, winning thirty three out
of fifty five one run games. Gil Hodges files the
pitch off to the left of the plate, strike one.
Gil flied the left single to center and hit to
the box. Here is one of the nicest men. It

(02:49:37):
has ever been our pleasure to meet in baseball. Stay
delivers to gil Hodges swings and grounds it off the
club off Esposito, you can't make a play. It's a
base hit. Moving on to second is norm Locker. Esposito
made a fine play and getting a glove on it

(02:49:59):
balls away from him. Alfparicio going the other way was
too far by him to even take the deflection, and
Hodges is credited with the base hit. Runners on first
and second, one out, and here's Johnny Roseboro popped the short,
struck out and filed out the first one out in

(02:50:26):
the ninth two on Jerry Staley delivers, swung on and
missed strike one. I feel straight away. Staley's next pitch

(02:50:51):
outside ball one one in one. If you go by
a precedent, you can dismiss this first, assuming that the
Dodgers are defeated. The one one delivery swung on and
fouled off to the right of the plate. The Saint

(02:51:11):
Louis Cardinals won the playoff for the National League pennant
in nineteen forty six and went on to win the
World Series. The Giants did the same in nineteen fifty four.
The Indians did the same in nineteen forty eight. The
one two pitch swung on, there's a ground ball grabbed
by Klezinski, throws down the Aparicio to force Hodges and

(02:51:33):
Big Flu took a base hit away from Johnny Roseboro
as he broke to his right. Being a left handed thrower,
reached out with the right hand, the gloved hand, and
speared the ball. When it appeared as if it would
be a base hit to right, he threw on the

(02:51:54):
ap ratio to force Hodges Larker moving on to third,
and Carl Farrel, a hero of many a Dodger win
in regular season and World Series play, is coming up
to hit four. Moury Wills Carl Farillo appearon is thirty

(02:52:14):
seventh World Series game. Two men out in the ninth
eleven and nothing in favor of the White Sox. The
pit swung on say high Pomp, foul off third and
out of play. Barrillough hit two ninety on the season,

(02:52:35):
appeared only fifty games in Native of Stony Creek Mills, Pennsylvania,
and I resides in Manhattan Beach, California. He's had thirty
three World Series hits, swings and grounds hit foul down
the third baseline, two strikes Clark on third, Roseboro on

(02:53:16):
first two outs of the ninth eleven and nothing in Chicago.
Staley's pitch to Perillo swung on and grounded file down
the first baseline. Stan Williams is loosening up for the
Dodgers in the second game of the World Series at

(02:53:36):
Comiskey Park Tomorrow, an open date Saturday, and the series
resumes in Los Angeles on Sunday. Clarker leads off third,
Roseboro off first, and the pitch to Parillo is inside.
One in two, an outfield toured left in center and

(02:53:59):
left straight away right. Runners leading away now from Perston third.
Jerry Staley, in relief of wind, delivers and it's inside ball.
Two to two, two balls, two strikes, two outs. Two

(02:54:20):
on first of the ninth stay lead to the stretch.
Runners lead away from Perston third. The pitch to Perrillo
swung on a high fly ball out into left field.
Al Smith moving hundred makes the cat down the first
game of the World Series' history, and the White Sox
win it eleven to nothing, no runs, two hits, no errors,

(02:54:44):
and two men left off, with Jerry Staley coming on
to finish up for early win, relieving him in the
eighth inning. When Early wins, right elbow stiffened up. And
while we have learned to expect anything any in any
sports event, we were surprised today with a sudden power

(02:55:08):
unleashed by the White Sox. The final score Chicago eleven runs,
eleven hits, no errors, the Dodgers no runs, eight hits
and three eras. In just a moment, we'll review the
highlights of today's game for you. The White Socks off
to a running start with eleven runs, eleven hits, no eras,
and three left on. The losing Dodgers no runs, eight hits,

(02:55:33):
they committed three eras, all of them in one innings,
eight left on. Early win goes seven innings to become
the winner. And while this is a shutout, it does
not go as an individual shutout to win, for he
needed help and Staley came on. I understand the stiffening
of the right shoulder and elbow was only a precautionary thing,

(02:55:54):
and Lopez didn't want to take any chances with a
win blowing off Lake Michigan. So early win is winner.
It's the first time he's ever won a World Series game.
He lost one you'll remember to the Giants in the
nineteen fifty four classes. Roger Craig is the defeated pitcher today.
He formally had a victory and a loss in World
Series competition against the Yankees. He was driven out in

(02:56:17):
the third inning. A White Sox you could see were
often running in the very first inn a walk to Fox,
a single and a single on a hit and run
with Klazzuski, and a sacrifice live by Schermlader gave them two.
But they exploded in the third inning to score seven times.
And in that inning the Dodgers threw in three eras
to help things along. A Duke Schneider anner. I know

(02:56:40):
he doesn't cherish, but at least he broke a record
for making two eras in one inning for an outfielder.
Ted Klazuski tied a record, and I know he's mighty
proud of considering this is the first World Series game
he's ever played in. Kleazuski had a single in two
home runs and drove in five of the eleven runs.
And as mel had told you earlier, the eleventh to

(02:57:02):
nothing shutout ties the all time shutout high which Dizzy
Dean hung on the Detroit Tigers in nineteen thirty four.
On October ninth of that classic between the Cardinals and
the Detroit Tigers. The White Sox fans, well, they can
hardly believe it, but of course, in a short series.
You never know how long a World Series is going

(02:57:23):
to go. It might go four, it might go seven.
But the White Socks are off and running, and of
course they haven't had a World's Championship here in Chicago
since way back in nineteen seventeen. The game was played
in two hours and thirty five minutes. Craig the loser.
Behind him, we had Chuck Churn, Levine Kolfax, and Clipstime.

(02:57:44):
Klasuski was a big item, there was no question about it.
His home run in the third inning was into the
lower seats and right field. His next home run was
a titanic shot that carried into the upper day. So
that's the story in the final score from Chicago Today,
eleven do nothing with a White Sox winning
