Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good afternoon, everybody. This is Bob Delenny and then just
a moment, Phil Risuto and Mel Allen will be bringing
you today's double header between the White Sox and the
Chicago White Sox. The Yankees have takeover first place undisputed
in the American League standings. Bill Rozula will have the
starting lineups for you in just a matter of moments,

(00:21):
as a big doubleheader isn't tap for you today, the
Yankees with the opportunity to really put themselves out in front. Now,
here's Phil.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Cork Yankees leading off and playing shot stop, Tony Kubeck
batting in the second position, playing left field, Hector Lopez
in center field. Batting third, and really starting to hit
again is Mickey Mettle and continuing the hits in real
scient fashion batting in the cleanup spot playing right field.
Roger Merritt Helston Howard will be doing the catching in

(00:51):
the first of two. Here how it will be batting fifth.
Bill Scarron, who had quite a day yesterday, will be
at first base, hitting in the sixth position. Ridis Boyer,
who to improve with every game, will be at third base,
batting seventh. Bobby Richardson continuing to play steady Ball out
at second base and getting those clutch bas hits. Will
be playing second in batting eighth and doing pitching and

(01:11):
batting ninth. Is Jim Coats all the White Sox leading
or playing shortstop. Louis Apparchia at second base, in batting second,
Nelly Fox out in left field, hitting in the third position,
Minnie Minoso, Roy Stevers will be the cleanup hitter and
playing first base. Gene Freeze will be hitting fifth and
will be playing third base. Out in right field, batting

(01:33):
in the sixth position. Al Smith doing the catching and
batting seventh. Sherman Lalla Jim Landers will be out in
center field, batting eighth and doing the pitching and batting ninth.
Bob Shaw the umpires have not made their appearance for
the feature attraction, or maybe the feature attraction was just presented.
They had a game between the fathers and sons of

(01:56):
the Chicago White Sox players and it was really a
barrel of fun. Little Billy Pears, a year and a
half ball coddled up to the plate, swung at the
ball as his daddy was pitching against him. He just
did tappen and he ran down the first base and
was exhausted by the time he got down there. He
had to be taken out of the game. And little

(02:17):
Louis Apprichow is just three years old and looks like
quite a ballplayer. He'd get up every other time and bat,
hit the ball, run around the bases and slide home.
Kerk Clown had three of his sons here, Frank Bouman
had two of his, Sherman Lalla two of his, Billy
Pearce had two, and all in all, it was a
lot of fun and the fans got a big kick
out of it. As a matter of fact, the White

(02:39):
Sox youngsters were tired in similar uniforms that their dads were,
with the names and numbers on the back, and this
capacity crowd got a big charge out of it. They
played about twenty five minutes and the youngsters won twenty
one to nothing. Of course, the dads had to make
him look good. This being fun day and maybe we

(03:02):
wish all you fathers are very happy Father's Day many
more to come. But if they didn't let their kids
look good today, they've certainly heard about it from mother
when they got home to night. The umpires have finally
made their appearance at home plate and calling balls and
strengths will be Cal Drummond at first base, Charlie Berry

(03:23):
at second base, Larry n App, and over at third
Frank Yuma, Casey Stangle and at Lopez are talking things
over at home plate. Must be quite a crowd out

(03:44):
of the gates. Yet this park is just about pulling
their standing in every available spot. Way out in the
center field bleachers. That's the most we've seen that field
this year. And they're standing on the railings and the
walkways leading from the left endfield bleaches over to the
right center field bleaches alongside the scoreboard. Right the umpires

(04:07):
break up the huddle at home plate, and while the
starting pitches are still loosening up, let's take a look
at the standings. The Yankees are now in first place
by two percentage points, so they trailed Baltemart by half
a game, and that's because the Yankees have won fewer

(04:31):
games in Baltimore and lost fewer games than the Orios.
Cleveland a game and a half behind the Yankees Detroit
three out, White Sox three and a half, Washington and
Kansas City ten and a half. In Boston thirteen. They
go to White Sox out on the fields. And yesterday's

(04:54):
action the Yankees defeat of the White Sox twelve five,
Detroit over Baltimore five to three, Cleveland to the d
Fox one, and last night the Senator seven Kansas City two.
And right now we'll have our national anthem. We ran

(06:05):
down the American League quickly. In the National League, the
Pirates remained four games ahead of the Giants, Milwaukee four
and a half out, Cardinals eight and a half, Cincinnati ten,
Los Angeles eleven, Corbs eleven and a half in Philadelphia seventeen.
Pittsburgh defeated the Dodgers again last night four to three,
Cincinnati seven, Chicago won Milwaukee shout out Saint Louis five nothing,
and the Giants defeated Philadelphia seven or four. So that's

(06:26):
the way things stand. With Bob Sure, out of the man,

(06:47):
Bob Sure out of the man. He's won five and
lost six this year. He's all and one against the Yankees,
his lifetime record against New York three wins and one defeat.
Lifetime record in the Big League's twenty eight wins seventeen defeats.
Sure has dropped two in a roll.

Speaker 3 (07:02):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
And the Youngster who had such a sensational year last
year for the White Sox along with early win just
can't seem to find his winning ways stitching against the
red hot club. The Yankees have won eleven of their
last thirteen games, and the Yankees have won five straight
from the Chicago White Sox. That's there, losing their first

(07:27):
four of the season to the Chai Socks. Tony Kubeck
standing alongside home plate watching Bob Shaw loosen up. Came
a few minutes late getting on the way because of
the big crowd storming the gates trying to get in,

(07:55):
and now Tony Kubeck steps into the battle's box ready
to face Bob Show big doublehead of to day. Kubec's
betting two seventy two for twelve doubles, three triples, five
homers in twenty five runs a bat a dam. Frank
Corsetti is down coaching at third round pocket First, here's

(08:16):
the wind up in the first pitch of the ball game.
Is swung it a miss strike wind on deck as
Hector Lopez Bob Shore. By the way, I was born
in the Bronx right in the shadows of the Yankee Stadium.
He's six two one hundred and ninety five palms for
one strike pitch curve boll swung and ad miss strike
two white socks at Minotsu and left landers and setter

(08:40):
and Al Smith and right field, Jean Freeze, Louis Apprecio,
Nellie Fox, Roy Stevers in the nfield, Sherman Lalla catching,
Bob Shore pitching, and the curve is hitting the ground
of the second basement. Nelly Fox two Stever's in his
one away Bob Shaw door for that ball landed in
the dirt. Bud couldn't quite reach. It was not hit too.
Card Kubec bounces out the second and here's Heck Lopez. Hector,

(09:06):
who ended yesterday's game with three consecutive base hits, is
up to three or eight again. Two doubles, two triples,
three homers and ten runs batted in and on deck
Mickey Metal. Here's the first pitch to Lopez high inside ball.
One beautiful day for a ball game. Otherwise the sky

(09:28):
is just as blue and as clear as it can be.
And we told you before the only thing is that
the wind is blowing straight in his shures. One nothing pitch,
it's accidentally hitting the ground. A third Jean Freeze is
up with it over receivers and it's two ways. As
Hector Lopez tried to check his swing, the ball hit

(09:50):
the end of the bat, an easy chance for Jean Freeze.
Two up and two down. And here's Mickey matle Well.
Nicky wins the meter test. Whatever media you're using, he

(10:12):
gets the loudest noise. Here's the first pitch to Mantle.
It's in for a fall strike. Nicky batting two sixty nine,
has six doubles, three triples, fourteen homers and twenty nine runs.
Bat it in handle, batting left handed against Bob Show
pitch inside ball one one A one. Let's you shore

(10:36):
one eighteen and lost six with a two point sixty
nine earned run average. Here's the wind up by the
right hander. Pitches hit high in the air to short
right center failed. Jim Landers moving in still coming in

(10:57):
and makes the catch and you could see the sun
shining on Land as his glasses as he came in
for that high flive. The Yankees get down one, two, three,
and the top of the first sitting on a square
at the end of one half inning of play, the
Yankees nothing and the White Sox coming to back.

Speaker 4 (11:18):
Well, mister Thompson, we found the trouble. Your carburetor is dirty.
Look you mean that little bit was enough to do it?
That's right, because of the close clearance in the carbureator.
Just a small amount of deposit and cause a throttle
plate to feed the wrong mixture of air and gasoline.
So you're nges stalls a lot, itels rough and waste gasoline.
But what causes that deposit?

Speaker 2 (11:36):
You know?

Speaker 4 (11:37):
I take good care of my car. It's not your fault.
You see exhaustumes and other stuff in the air, get
by your air cleaner and build up in your carburetor. Well,
isn't there any way I can prevent these deposits? There is?

Speaker 2 (11:47):
Now?

Speaker 4 (11:47):
Just start using Atlantic Imperial gasoline. Atlantic Imperial Why, well,
it's because the Atlantic Imperial they make today will actually
clean out your carburetor and keep it clean while you
drive it. You mean I won't have to spend money
to have my carburetor cleaned again, No, sir, Atlantic Impilio
gasoline is all you need to keep your carburetor clean.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
Try it?

Speaker 5 (12:06):
Okay, Bill?

Speaker 4 (12:07):
You sold me My next tank full is Atlantic Imperial.

Speaker 2 (12:12):
Coats has won seven and lost none. He's won to
zero against the White Socks, and his lifetime record against
Chicago two wins and no defeats. His lifetime mark in
the Big Leagues thirteen wins and one defeat. And Coach
has won his last eleven ball games, four at the
end of last year and seven at the start of
this year. Coach beat Chicago five to two back on

(12:37):
June and seventh in New York, giving up only four hits.
And here's Louis Apprecio. Thatt in two forty nine has
six doubles, four triples, fifteen runs batted in in sixteen
stolen vasas Joey Tony Kuschinello coaching at Parrett John Guttter
is down at first on deck Nelly Fox madele playing

(13:01):
a shallow center field. Here's the wind up by Coach.
The pitch Salou is high, inside ball one. Big Jim
Coate swings into the wind up. It's inside ball two

(13:23):
to nothing. White Sox. I've lost five more games than
the Yankees. Not all important loss column. The two nothing

(13:44):
pits inside ball three. And the Yankees would rather keep
Apprechio off the bass than any other player on the
White Sox team. Because, as Bill Veck says. Every time
he gets to walk, it's almost an automatic doubles because
of his ability to steal second base. The three nothing

(14:14):
pitch inside ball four, Apparicio walks on four straight pitches,
and you'll hear the crowd now urging Louis to go, go, go,
Nelly Fox the batter Nelly betting two seventy six, ten,
double six, triple twenty seven runs. Bat it in, don't

(14:37):
score here in the bottom of the first first game
of a big double header, Yankees in the white dock
on deck as many Minotto charn holding first against Aprechio.
Here's a stretch, quick go to first, Napretio back. Louie
gets a big lead, but he seems to get back

(14:58):
so easily. The first ba very little effort, and yet
he takes about the biggest league of anybody in the
American League. And the stretch by coach throw to first.
Appreciow back again. Boy, he was ready to go. Now
he can change in midair. It looks like he's leaning
ready to go to second. Coach throws to first and
he's back in plenty of times. Here's a stretch. The

(15:29):
pitch it taken strike one. Louis was not going that time,
he just bluffed going and how it jumped out from
the back of home plate. Leta's boy are playing way
in at third base. The Yankee outfield very shallow and
straight away on Fox. Hecht Lopez out left field playing

(15:51):
Fox like a right handful header, and now he can
slap the ball that way out stretches. The pitch is
the pitch out and Apple Show is not going. And
that's what makes Louie even more dangerous, the fact that
everybody is on the alert for a possible steals. He's
got the pitcher worrying about him stealing second, and so
he can't concentrate quite as much on the hit him.

(16:12):
He's got the catcher worrying, the third baseman looking for
Fox the butt, and of course the shortstop of the
second baseman, whoever's going to take the throw. Here's a
stretch he almost started, and then Coach stepped off. The
ma boy, it looked like he might have had a
free show that time. Louie took one step towards second
and Coach step back off. The man won to won

(16:34):
the car. Nobody out quick throw the first but appree
Show it's standing on the bag. So you can see
how much he's bothering Jim Coates. All right, Fox steps
back in the bat his box, choking way up on
that bet.

Speaker 5 (16:50):
Here's a stretch the pitch there he goes.

Speaker 2 (16:51):
The ball is hit, go back bobbles. The ball has
to go to first base in time for the out.
And that was a hit and run. It was not
simply a deal. And Fox lining the ball on one
short hop to Kubeck Tony blocked it nicely, had dropped
at his feet. Apri Sho easily safe at second, but
the throw to first retired Fox and Louis did not

(17:12):
have a real good jump that time. But he's at
second base with one out. Here's Miny Minoto Minoso batting
three h five, ten doubles, two triples, seven home is,
thirty eight runs bounded in and Mini's got himself nine
stolen bat. Here's a stretch by coachs a look at Appriho,

(17:34):
and time is called. Coach took a little too much time.
And Coats had actually taken his step and was ready
to release the ball when he saw Charlie Berry that
played rather cal Drummond with his hands up there, and
he stopped short. Sometimes the pitcher can hurt his arm
doing that. Just as he's ready to throw. Stop in
the middle of it. Hitch too many has swung it
and miss strike one, and Manoso goes down on one

(17:55):
knee on Decroyd sever again. Coach stretches, makes a breach

(18:17):
your stop for second. It's pitch. Strike two is swinging
a miss. Howard walked out towards the mount, fires the
ball back to the coach. Nothing in two and many
minutes on one out here in the bottom of the
first note, score an altil five eleven one hundred and

(18:47):
seventy five pounds. Here's a stretch pitch strike Grez clinging
and also went down on three pitchers as host registers
his first strikeout, and that'll bring up roy Severs with
two outs. Sivers betting two thirty nine has five doubles,

(19:09):
six homers and twenty four runs batted in. Savers, who
was acquired from the Washington Senators, just starting to hit
the long ball for the top pitch is in there.
Strike one, call fastball down the middle, non deck gene
freeze appery shoe at second base open the bottom of

(19:35):
the prece of the wall. Coatsets pitches in there strike
two call, and Severs took another fastball down the middle,
and you know he was looking for something else. Very

(19:55):
seldom you see Severs take even one down the middle
unless he's guessing, and he sure was guessing for breaking
stuff up, and took two fastballs. All right, coach, way
ahead of the batter. Nothing in two pitch is another
fast ball, strike three, swinging so Jim Coats after walking up,

(20:15):
Ratio settled down for the White Socks in the bottom
of the first. No runs, no hits, no Yankee eras
one man left. The score at the end of one
full inning, the Yankees nothing and the White Sox nothing. Now,
let's take a rundown to the scoreboard. In the American League,
Boston is leading Cleveland three to one, and those Red
Socks are giving the Indians trouble. I'm Bauquette against Perry
Frank Malzone, Homan and the fourth with nobody on for

(20:37):
the Red Sox, they're playing a doubleheader. Boldemar at Detroit
for two. In the top of the first, the Orioles
fail to score. Detroit batting will Helm against Funny Washington
is in Kansas City for a single game, and that
will start later on in the National League Chicago and
Cincinnati for two. In the first game, it is nothing nothing.
At the end of two and a half hobby against
O two Saint Louis and Milwaukee for two, the Cards

(20:58):
failed to score on the top of the first MS
against spawn Pittsburgh at Los Angeles, Philadelphia at San Francisco
single games, and they start later on. The Yankees have
an off day tomorrow before they play Tuesday night in Detroit,

(21:23):
and we'll be on the air from Detroit at nine
to ten pm. We'll also have a night game on Wednesday,
the twenty second, and a day game on Thursday to
twenty third. Then the Yankees go to Cleveland for a
big weekend series Friday night the twenty fourth, Saturday afternoon
at twenty fifth, and the big double head of Sunday
the twenty sixth. After the doublehead in Cleveland, the Yankees
come home to face the Los Angeles Dodges, last year's

(21:46):
world champion Dodges. That'll be Monday night, June the twenty seventh,
in the benefit Sandlot game at Yankee Stadium. And that's
one we'd like to see as many of you folks
make as possible, But the money will be used the benefit.
Right here's the Sandlot Baseball program in alight. Here's Roger
Maris leading off forty Yankees in the top of the second.

(22:09):
Short's pitch is taking low ball one overhand curveball. Maras
batting three forty six, has fifteen doubles, two triples, nineteen
homers and forty eight runs. Batter in mon deck Elston
Harris one nothing, pitches popped in the air in front
of the plate and Jeene Freeze is coming in from

(22:31):
third and makes the catch. It was a tough play
for Sharon Lala as the ball was in fair territory
and drifting a little bit out towards the mound. Much
easier for the third baseman to come in and make
the play, and that's what Freeze did. Maras pops out
to the third basement. Here's Elston Horrid batting two seventy three.

(22:51):
Ellie has seven doubles, three triples, five homers and twenty
five runs batted in no score. Top of the second,
Howard in their strike one call on deck, Bill Scarn

(23:13):
fastball a little high ball on one on one. I
know so in left and Lander's in center playing deep
for Howard Ale Smith not too deep in right field.
Fastball hit into a right senate field. Land Is chasing it,
and he makes a running catch in deep right cenifield.

(23:37):
Just want it looked like Landis wouldn't be able to
catch up to that ball. He put on a little
extra burst of speed and made a fine running cat
taking an extra base hit away from Howard. That ball
was in there for at least the triple, or so
it looked. Boyd Land has covered a lot of ground
that time. Here's Bill Scarn, the moose, batting two nine short.

(24:03):
First pitch is inside and low ball one. Scarron has
seventeen doubles, one triple, eight homus forty three. Runs about
the new strike one is he swings and misses a
low inside fastball. Two men are out and nobody on

(24:23):
top of the second. No score on the ball game.
The pitch is low inside ball two to one. Once again,
the White Sox pitches are trying to crowd Scarn. They

(24:43):
have not had any success pitching him away, so they're
trying to pitch it on his pits. Pitch is lying
right at the third basement. Don't hit that ball right
on the nose. Jean Freeze made a nice play, and
the Yankees again get down in one, two three order.
Here you're in the top of a second, nothing across
the four at the end of an inning and a half,
the Yankee nothing and the White Sox nothing. You know what?

Speaker 1 (25:07):
The traffic light you can often tell if your car
isn't performing up to par. Maybe it stalls frequently or
idles rough, or possibly doesn't have any pickup. When the
light changes well, this could mean a dirty carburetor, something
that can happen to any car, old or new. Exhaust
fumes and other air contaminants get by your air cleaner,
you see and build up as deposits inside the carburetor

(25:27):
of your car, and these troublesome deposits can cause an
improper mixture of air and gasoline. The result is rough
performance and actual gasoline waste. But thanks to new Atlantic
Imperial gasoline, you can now keep your carburetor clean without
even raising the hood. Atlantic Imperial cleans your carburetor as
you drive, doing a complete job in just a few

(25:48):
thousand miles. So to end stalling, rough idling, and gasoline
waste due to a dirty carburetor, use Atlantic Imperial it's
the gasoline that cleans your carburetor and keeps it clean.

Speaker 2 (26:06):
In the bottom of the second inning, Jean freeze the
third basement. Leading off with the White Sock no score.
Bob Shore retired the first six Yankees that he faced.
Yankees got the White Sox got one runner on base
in the first inning of Walkdapree show. Louis advanced the second,
but wouldn't go any further than the Jean freeze. Betting

(26:34):
two fifty nine, seven doubles, one triple, five homers and
twenty three runs batted in the coast into the wine.
Up the pitch to freeze curve line Ow boy did
he Tima hawkdap Win a high curve ball that he
just chopped down on lined it over Boy's head, but

(26:55):
it was fouled by inches. Rolling deep in the left
field corner, Coach goes to the rosen bag, gets themselves
a new baseball freeze the right hand head of sands

(27:24):
fairly deep in the box. Coaches pitched his way outside
and the high ball one one on one another pull
house to watch the Yankees in the White Sox Friday night.
They had a big crowd yesterday, a big crowd today

(27:45):
the biggest There's a fly ball a right then a
failed mantle digging to his left and under it and
makes the catch. Whah Way, Dicky didn't have to run
quite as far as Jim Landers. Ball was not hit
quite as hard as the one else than Howard hit.
Here's how smith the right fielder. Smithy didn't play yesterday.

(28:08):
Gave him a day off. He's batting three nineteen at
the top average for any White Sox regular player. Has
nine doubles, two triples, five homers, thirty two runs. A
bat it in right hand hitter with a short, powerful swing.
He's not one of those free swinging hitters. Pitch insign

(28:28):
I just missed hitting him, fall on on deck, Sherman Lalla.
The lined up by coach, the pitch high inside ball

(28:49):
two two nothing. You can see the crowd in Bill Veeck's
picnic area neath the left field stands. He's got screen
out there and tables where the fans can eat and
watch the ball game at the same time. Going from
the left field file line to the bullpen in center field,

(29:12):
pitch is filed back on the screen. Strike one two balls,
one strike. Sure is a pretty day. We're broadcasting this

(29:34):
game from the cage that hangs over the ballpark just
to the left of home plate. A little bit scary
at them. The pitch, slow curve he shot, the bunt
draws his back back in the tie, ball three, three
and one. I don't know, Fabbly, the more I think
of it, this there's just a little bitty cage and

(29:55):
there's a lot of people in it who we're hanging
out from the seats almost onto the field. A three
to one pitch in Shige, ball four, that's the second
half giving up by Coats. It brings up Sherman Laala

(30:18):
batting two sixty four. Sherman has sixteen doubles, two homers
and nineteen runs batted in. Sharon holding first against Smith,
Smiddy has five stolen bases. The White Socks are running club,
as everybody knows. On deck, Jim Landers no score. Bottom

(30:42):
of the second, one out, Smith leads up first base.
Here's a stretch by Coats. The pitch is line right,
had Richardson to throw back to first double play boy.
A line drive by Sherman Laala right at Bobby Richardson
and Al Smith could not get back in time. Bobby
throw his car and doubled them up for the White

(31:04):
Snocks in the bottom of the second no runs, no hits,
no Yankee eras nobody left the score at the end
of two full innings, the Yankees nothing and the White
Snocks nothing.

Speaker 1 (31:17):
A clean carburettor gives smoother driving performance, so use New
Atlantic Imperial, the gasoline that cleans your carburettor and keeps
it clean.

Speaker 2 (31:25):
We'll pause for a station identification.

Speaker 6 (31:28):
You are June fourteen sixty on the radio dials a
WOKO Albany, New York, one minute before three.

Speaker 2 (31:34):
Back here at Commissee Park on Father's Day all over
the United States. One of his Father's Day, all of
us happy, and I will have to get Pete Callison
to check the record book anyway. In the top of
the third inning for the Yankees lead US boy Bobby

(31:55):
Richardson and Jim Coach will be facing Bob Shaw as
the Yankees have no had a man reached first base
in the first two winning Boyer is batting two fifty nine,
six doubles, two homers, ten runs batted in, so over
half of Boyer's total of hits are extra. Vase at

(32:19):
See had fifteen vase ats eight of them extravasors. Short
pitch the boyer is hit high in the air, deep
toil left field, but that ball is curving fall and
way back in the left field corner. A long strike
for a fetus boyer. Boy Clevet hit that high bath one,
He's got the power. The one strike pitch, strike call

(32:52):
on the outside corner and overhand curveball. Nothing in two
on boyer on deck. Bobby Richardson Al Smith playing a
very shallow right field today with that wind blowing in
two strike pitches. Strike three went after a bad low
outside curveball and Bob Shaw gets this first strike out

(33:13):
of the ball game. Here's Bobby Richardson, Bobby batting two fourteen,
six doubles, one homer, eight runs batted in the right

(33:34):
hand of Bob Shaw ready on the mount is fitch
to Bobby is a curve lower ball one. Shore's follow
through is just about perfect. He ends up with his
feet parallel and his hands in front of him, ready
to feel anything hit back through the box the curve

(33:54):
outside wall two, two and nothing. Richardson takes a short
glance down at Frank Corossetti, Yankee third base coach here's
the two nothing face. Bobby lines it right at the
third basement man, and that Freeze was lucky to hold
onto that one. He was playing Richardson in and Freeze

(34:17):
didn't know what to do. He caught the ball, turned around,
looked at Chrissetti and held both hands up in the
airs if to say, what am I going to do?
Got to get my glove up there to protect myself.
A vicious line drive. He was playing Richardson in looking
for a possible bunt, and that's shoe line drives. That
Freeze has court and he's had a busy day already.
Out of eight chances, he has had four of them,

(34:40):
one ground ball and one pop line. Two liners. That's
two out. And here's Jim coach, who's betting three or four.
Big Jim with two doubles, swings to ground ball at
first base. Stevers is up with it, flips to shore,
covering in time to get coached, and Bob Sure has
retired the first nine Yankees at his face. Nothing across
New York and the top of the third. The score

(35:02):
at the end of two and a half innings, the
Yankees nothing and the White Sox nothing.

Speaker 1 (35:07):
You know, sometimes the way your car performs can be
downright embarrassing, especially if it's been stalling frequently or idling rough,
or possibly doesn't have the get up and go that
you're accustomed to. And now your trouble could be a
dirty carburetor, a condition that can affect any car, old
or new. See exhaust fumes and minute particles of dirt
can get by your air cleaner and they build up

(35:28):
deposits inside along the lower carburetor wall. Now, even a
small amount of these deposits can cause the throttle plate
to feed the wrong mixture of air and gasoline your engine,
and you get rough performance an actual gasoline waste. But
a dirty carburetor is one embarrassment you can forget about
if you use new Atlantic Imperial gasoline. You see, Atlantic

(35:50):
Imperial actually goes to work cleaning out the deposits in
your carburetor as you drive. What's more, it keeps your
carburetor clean, puts more pleasure back into the driving. So
to end stalling, rob idling and gasoline waste due to
a dirty carburetor, use Atlantic Imperial, the gasoline that cleans
your carburetor and keeps it clean.

Speaker 2 (36:16):
Neither team has a base hit the White Sox. I've
had two men reach first base. Apprecio walked in the first,
Smith in the second. They are the only two base
runners to the ball game. Landa steps into the batter's box,

(36:46):
adding two twenty three swings in a glinder right at lead.
As foret the third basement of getting the workout today
a solid lineup. Boy hardly had a move. And that's
why they say baseball is a game of inches. Inches.
To the right of the left the bat right at
boy I went away. Here's bomb sure batting oh eight three,

(37:10):
he's two for twenty four, has one RBI right handed
him nothing nothing bottom of the third, that's the shore

(37:30):
the strike on the outside corner. The shore up pounds
his bat down on home plate, lined up by code
curve low outside ball one one one yogi ber arresting
this first game, probably catch the second. Here's the one

(38:02):
one delivery. It swung at it miss strike too one
ball to strike. OT's ready again. Kicks delivers sign I'm
kirk pop to scaring at first base and file territory

(38:24):
to Moose makes a one hand catch of that little
soft lazy pop fly. That's two out. And here's appery
show who walks in the first inning, White Sox have
hit only one ball on the ground fought Jim Coates.

(38:44):
That was Nelly Pox in the first inning, and that
was a lion drive that landed right at the feet
of Kubec. That's coach pattern of pitching, though. He pitches
high and fast and they get under the ball. Here's
the pitch tap ratio curve over strike one called you

(39:15):
ready for the one strike pitch to Louise side. I'm
fast forward Paul down the right field line, back into
the seats, out of play, nothing in two on app
y SiO. Louis left wrist still bothering him. He heard

(39:39):
it sometime back, played in New York with it completely taped.
But the tape is off now. We noticed yesterday when
he'd swing at certain pitches, it would hurt him and
he'd have to weep. Why the two strike pitch, oh
wild pitch over app Ratio's head back against the screen
and Louie's sitting on the ground, getting up very slowly

(40:00):
looking out at Jim Coats with a nothing in two
cod on app ratio. Coach threw and in the back
of his head past how it hits the screen on
a fly, one ball, two strikes. Here's the wind up

(40:21):
pitch is popped in the air. Rated boy at the
third baseman moving under it, shading his eyes. But the
sun grasses down and makes the cat boy. That's done.

Speaker 1 (40:29):
Is right.

Speaker 2 (40:31):
All the White sacks in the bottom of the third,
no runs, no hits, no Yankee eras nobody left the
score the end of three, four many, the Yankees nothing
and the White Stocks nothing, and I mean nothing but
goose eggs up there and the runs, the hits and
the air column goose eggs on the scoreboard now at
the end of six innings. In the first of two
Boston three, Cleveland one mon Bouquet against Perry mal Zone
Holman and the fourth with nobody on all the more

(40:53):
one Detroit nothing at the end of two will Helm
against Funny. That's the first of two. Washington and Kansas
City a single game. They played an Chicago and Cincinnati
for two. In the first game nothing nothing at the
end of three and a half probably against o Tour
Saint louis Is at Milwaukee for two. At the end
of an inning and a half, it's nothing nothing. Simmons
against Spawn Fitzburg at Los Angeles. Fill it up at
Cincinnati rather at San Francisco in single games, and they'll

(41:16):
start later.

Speaker 5 (41:17):
On Tony Kubec.

Speaker 2 (41:18):
Takes a curve outside ball one. Tony bounced the second
base in the first sinner up for a second look
at Bob Shaw. First nine Yankees went down in a
row without anybody reaching first nothing nothing on the top
of the four pitch is high outside ball two two
and nothing. Sure swings into the wind up fastball low

(41:55):
inside ball three, three and nothing on Quebec. The first
time that show has been behind on any Yankee hitter
three nothing pitch, strike call. He laid that one right
down the middle. Figure that Kubeck was taking on the

(42:17):
three nothing pitch, but said he flashes some signs at Kuebec.
Here's a three one delivery strike two call both count
three and two ready Now for the payoff pitch to Kuebeck.

(42:45):
A ground ball at second base. Nelly Fox was left
up with it over receivers in time to get Kuebeck.
So after falling behind three and uping, Shore came in
there with three straight fastballs over the plate and for
the second time and two times at bat who back
bounced out to fox pitch the hector the strike called.
That's ball down the middle. The one strike pitch high

(43:20):
outside ball one one A one nice and warm in
the sun. People who are sitting in the sun have
their jacket door, but in the shade it's mighty cool.
The one one pitch outside ball two two a month,

(43:52):
the wind up by shore. The pitch is hit fall
outside of third. Pat's for setting down the left field
line two and through the corn m one hour nobody
on Yankees nothing and the white Stocks nothing. In the
top of the four. The two to two pitches a

(44:17):
curt just outside ball three another three two count Hecky
Madel on deck taking a few practice swings in the
on deck circle. Once again we have a payoff fat
This one a low fez. It's strike three. He dropped
the ball. It was a found tip. Lalla had it

(44:37):
in his glove and then dropped the ball. The tough
play for cal Drummond to see how to walk around
in front of Lalla throw the ball on the ground.
But had he not seen it, one of the other
umpires would have called it again. The three two pitch
strike three swinging this time, Sure I get this second

(45:01):
strike out of the ball game. And here's Mickey Mantle,
who flight out to center field in the first inning.
You out nobody on the pitch the Mantle, I inside

(45:23):
ball one on deck Roger Maras, I won nothing, pitch
low inside ball two to nothing. Temperature is seventy two

(45:58):
degrees right now and the humidity thirty six percent. That's
got to be right in the sun. Two nothing fetch
outside corner, strike one called two balls one strike gone,

(46:19):
medals the two one fetch law outside ball three, three
and one. Here's a three one delivery a file back

(46:51):
out of play. Yeah, that mandled right alongside of a
little young kid with a White Sox cap on. Fortunately
didn't hit him. Hit the step and bounce back on
the playing field. Three and two the payork pitch high outside,

(47:14):
and there's the first Yankee base runner of the day.
Mickey Mantle gets the first walk given up by Bob
Shaw and walks up in mighty costly to the White
Sox pitches in this series so far. Roger Maris, who
popped out the third base in the second inning, Nevada

(47:38):
Nelly Fox comes in to talk with Bob Shaw. Maris
digging in at home plate, Quick go to first of Mantle,
who just started the step bark buckles back. Mickey was

(47:59):
just getting ready to take his lead when Show threw
over there. All right, here's a stretch. Wick, go to first,
and Mickey had to dive back head first with a
good move. I sure that time. All right, Mickey dusting
himself forth, still hasn't made a pitch to Marat. Here's

(48:19):
a stretch. The pitch strike one is swing in the
midst quick go to first. Mantles back with two out

(48:46):
and no score in the ball game. Sure worrying about Mattle.
Here's a stretch. Vicky ready to go, go to first.
Then he says, just oh man was that close? And
Levers and Shaw are arguing. They had Mickey between up.
He was hopping trying to get a good jump. It
looked like he was ready to go to second, and
sure fire the ball over there. Well, Mickey's people off

(49:07):
the ground. Nick had a dive back head first, and
it was close. One strike on on Marage pitcher strike
two calls. And there are times when a runner taking
a big lead and having the pitcher go over there
will bother the batter a lot. But it's tough for

(49:28):
Marage to get set. You don't know whether he's going
to go to first base or pitch nothing into the count.
Show stretches that is way outside ball line. All right,

(50:04):
here's a stretch by show bet. She's hitting the ground
file outside of first base, rolling down the right field line.
One ball, two strikes, and the stretch by show betch

(50:34):
is the ground ball back handed. My saviors trains around
steps on first. That's all for the Yankees. And the
top of the fourth, no runs, no hits, no white socks.
There is one man left the score at the end
of three and a half innings. The Yankees nothing and
the White Socks nothing.

Speaker 4 (50:53):
Wright Atlantic Dealers, Yes, sir, I'm an Atlantic dealer. Can
I help you?

Speaker 7 (50:57):
I am Louise from the Lingo qud of my greatest
poof I at the loos the world. But never have
I known a boot to snort like this automobile snorts?

Speaker 2 (51:04):
Uh what BG a car?

Speaker 4 (51:05):
Is it?

Speaker 7 (51:05):
Taurus?

Speaker 2 (51:06):
Well?

Speaker 4 (51:06):
Maybe Taurus. Maybe your car has a dirty carburetor. Yes,
when a carburetor gets dirty, it can cause rough engine
performance and waste gasoline, Milo singers. But now we can
fix that with Atlantic Imperial gasoline. It cleans your carburetor
as you drive it, and keeps it clean.

Speaker 7 (51:21):
And this a plenty impedial.

Speaker 4 (51:23):
It works fast fiat as you can say, Oh A
like to try it, see if it is time.

Speaker 7 (51:26):
To take the boor by the harm.

Speaker 2 (51:30):
Ah.

Speaker 7 (51:30):
The car's performance is almost as smooth as one of
my own. If this were a born, I would award
that transy both ears and detail at plenty keeps the
car on the goal.

Speaker 2 (51:50):
Just a quick reminder you're telling you about the all
start ticket orders. They must be accompanied by a certified
check banker's cashier check the United States money or a
Western Union money order or express order, and made payable
to the New York Yankees. Seventy five cents must be
added the East total order for mailing and registering charges.

(52:11):
All right, Nelly Fox, who bounced out to the short
snap of the first inning leading off no score. Here
in the bottom of the fourth inning, Fox leads the
league in tripples with six and that's as many as
he had all last year. Coach's pitch is hit in

(52:34):
a straightaway center, failed metal moving back under it and
makes the cat. Fox got a little better wood of
the ball than the mickey had figured. He had to
go back a little quicker at the end. The man
liked to play fox shallow, but you will take more
hits away from him that way than playing him deep
one away. Here's many minots who struck out in the
first inning. I know two is hit say played the

(52:58):
seventeen in the last twenty two games. Miss the Minoso
strike one call lined up by coach, slow curve fall

(53:30):
on a third base line, strike one. That's the first
ball that Minoso has hit up. Coach. He struck out
miss three pitchers in the first thing. Nothing in two
one out, nobody on no score, bottom of the fourth,

(53:52):
first game of a double head up side on curve
him and also has to Hyppo Dirk boy, he really
went down man. He likes to step in on a
pitch and his coach came side on his curveball didn't break.
I'm an also flapping out on the ground. You think
he was jumping in a fox hog Aso usually leaves

(54:18):
the league and getting hit with pitch balls every year
because of his unusual stance. He's right over the place
as they drive the deep luck pail way back there,
Woe pats back and it's a home rune form and also.

Speaker 5 (54:54):
Well.

Speaker 2 (54:56):
You heard the firework and you hear the crowd.

Speaker 5 (55:00):
Letty go get.

Speaker 3 (55:03):
Now.

Speaker 2 (55:04):
I'd like to find a foxhall and jump in. And
I said it. The White Sox lead one nothing as
Minoso it is eight form of the year and his
thirty ninth run batted in. Here's Roy Sievers, who struck
out in the first inning. Stevers take the pitch high
ball one. You know, there are some batters who you
throw close to and knock them down and they're not

(55:25):
dangerous at the bit. There are other batters who get
a little mad when you throw at them or come
close to them, and Minoso happens to be one of
those players. Here's the one nothing pitch the Sivers inside
ball two doing nothing. The White Sox lead one nothing.
There was a delayed action by a cracker the scoreboard.

(55:52):
It is a fascinating thing. The two upping pitch is
hoop file back out of play, shoe and why on
rhight Saviors pitch hello outside bow three three of mine.

(56:33):
Jeane freeze on deck. Here's a three to one pitch.
Hey ye foul coming back on the roof and out

(56:56):
of play. We'll count on Roy Sievers one out, nobody

(57:18):
on bottom of the fourth, White Sox won the Yankees.
Nothing Jim Coate swings into the wine up. The payoff
pitch to Sivers is a line drive right at Boy,
a backhand catch or the third baseman of really getting
to work out today. Nothing but line drives down that way.

(57:39):
That took a double away from Steve Boy with those
quick sure hands back end of the ball. Here's Jean Freeze,
who lined out to center field in the second inn,
two way on deck out Smith. The christ pitch the

(58:14):
Freeze is low ball one, the one I think pitched low.

(58:37):
Curt filed back on the screen, strike one one a one.

(59:00):
Here's the wind up by Coats. One one delivery, change
up deep the left tails way back there, and that
ball curved fall and back end of the dance. It
was plenty far enough to have been a home run,
but it just curved file. I'd say no more than
five or six feet from the left field file line.
Coats try to change up on Freeze, but Jean double

(59:25):
hits and really got the good wood on it. One ball,
two strikes and two outs. Coats all said. The pitcher's

(59:46):
line deep the center field mat going back and makes
the catch way deep in center field, and I was
a line drive hit about four hundred feet or the
White Socks at the bottom of the fourth one run
on one hit the homer bum so which is the
only hitting the ball game, by the way, and no
Yankee eras nobody left the score at the end of
four full, I mean the White Sox won the Yankees nothing,

(01:00:08):
and we paused fourth station identification.

Speaker 6 (01:00:10):
You are turning the fourteen sixty on the radio. Donald
is the woko Albany, New York. Time on the wok
o'clock is now three thirty.

Speaker 2 (01:00:31):
Well, right now, I'd like to mention that the second
half of this game is being brought to you by
the Crisp Refressure Valentine beer. You know, Valentine's a light
beer with two Laga flavor, and that's what makes it
the Crisp Refressure. On the scoreboard, Boston now leading Cleveland
six to one. At the end of seven male zone
Holman and the fourth and Ted Williams got his five

(01:00:53):
hundred and first home run and the seventh with two
on man that Williams is rolling. Baldemore won Detroit nothing
at the end of three and a half, Washington and
Kansas City has not started. In the National League, clubs
won Cincinnati one at the end of four and a half,
Saint Louis nothing, Milwaukee nothing at the end of three
and a half, and Pittsburgh at Los Angeles and Philadelphia

(01:01:15):
San Francisco have not started as yet. Lots of activity
in both leagues.

Speaker 5 (01:01:22):
Today.

Speaker 2 (01:01:24):
We've got quite a ball game going here at Comiskey Park.
In the first of two wil pitches battle between Bob
Shaw and Jim Coates Elston Howard, who applied deep to
right center field in the second inning, Jim Land has
had to make a fine running play. Ready to pitch

(01:01:47):
to Howard is high ball one on deck, Bill Scaring
Riches hit on the ground, a third, Breeze make the
nice play to throw the first is all what a
fit throw that one, how it starts the second to

(01:02:08):
throw back, and how it's back in time. And I
don't know what Jean Freeze did that. He took too
much time getting rid of that ball. He made a
nice play on a hard hit ground ball that was right,
but then he took the ball, looked at it, I
guess to make sure it was an American League ball
and then fired about ten feet over royceivers head. It
hit the little wire fence that surrounds the toppling and

(01:02:30):
back of first base. Howard rounded the bag, but then
hustles back. It's an error charge the gene frieze. He
took a lot of time with that ball. He could
have gotten rid of that seconds before he did. Tired.
Here's Bill scar and who line the third pitch to
the moose? The line base hit the left field Howard
around second and he holds time at scaring. Really Buggy

(01:02:54):
whipped a high fastball. Why did he chop down another
one and line the single of left the first hit
or Bob Shaw? And now each team has one base hit.
The Yankees threatening with runners at first and second and
nobody else Kleidis Boyer, who struck out in the third inning,
the Bata, Bob Shaw and Jean Trees talking over how

(01:03:18):
they're going to play this fun if boy does fun
throw the Araby Freeze on Howard's ground. Bore got Shore
on a gym. Here in the top of the fifth inning,
Seevers is in it first, Breeze is in a third
apprecio playing close to second, and Fox is in a
second base. Very unusual defensive alignment for the White Sox.

(01:03:44):
Any kind of a hot hit ground ball will be
a base hit. It has to be right at somebody. Boy,
they're all moving, here's a stretch. The pitch is one
of that missed, and Apprecia was breaking the third, and
if he had been breaking the second, they might have
gotten Howard, who was leaning to it. Third base. Boy
a bun at the ball and missed it. And when
you're on second base you automatically make a couple of

(01:04:07):
steps towards third. I get Fox feeping in back of
Hollitt and Howard jumping back to the bag. But Sure
wasn't even looking back at Nelly. Runners at first and
second and nobody out and the White Sox leading the
Yankees won to nothing. Sure sets hitch the boy it

(01:04:27):
hit him. It hit him on a leftail ball, And
I don't think that doesn't hurt. But Sure, who was
ahead of the hitter is really in trouble now with
the bases loaded and nobody out, that ball hit. Boy
are right in back of the left sailbow in there
is a rough spot to be hit. You think that
doesn't hurt, man, I've been hit there and you get
sick all over you. Hear stomach feels like it's upset,

(01:04:50):
and it just aches. You don't know what to do.
You can't touch it, and you hate to move it.
It'll be all right in a little bit. Joe Sores,
the Yankee trainer taking over for Gus Morrish, who were
happy to say is recuperating back in New York, putting
some ethyl chloride on the arm to numb the pain
a little bit. That's boy on the back, and Boyer

(01:05:11):
goes down the first and the bases are loaded with
nobody out here in the top of the fifth inning,
the White Socks leading one nothing, and the bat of
Bobby Richardson, who lined the third and the third inning.

(01:05:38):
Let's see how the White Socks are gonna play this.
Boyer is still swinging that left arm back and forth
at first base, talking with Ralph Powker. Sure just warms
up with Sherman Lalla, and that will be painful tomorrow
for Pleader's Boyer. Even in bed tonight, that's gonna be rough.

(01:05:58):
Just rolling around resting the elbow on the mattress hurts before.
That's the rough spot to get hid. Jerk clown is
loosening up in the White Sox both and with the
bases loaded and nobody out, Sure suddenly lost his control.

(01:06:24):
Here's the wind up the pitcher, Richardson high ball one.
Sure had retired the first eleven back batties that he
faced before mantle walk in the port. But here in
the fifth and error a single in a hit batsman.
Here's a ground bowl base hit. A lot pails. Here
comes toward, and here comes Karen. The throwers in a third,

(01:06:46):
and he's safe. A third in the runner ros a second,
Jerry Stally jerk lawn loosening up in the boat. Then

(01:07:17):
Robby Richardson lined a single a left field between third
and short, driving in two runs. And I'm Minoso's throw
to third base appar show was not back far enough.
The boy is split in safely, and I'm a throw
in the third. Richardson went to second base. Here's Jim Coat,
the Yankees, now leading two to one, in fields in
for a possible play at the place. The pitch the

(01:07:39):
coach is a ground ball cruse Shaw's legs the base pick.
Here comes Boyer, Here comes Richison, and the Yankees lead
four to one. Jim Coat at a ground ball right
between Bob George's legs. It hit the pitching rubber and

(01:08:00):
founded over Aparicio's outstretched glove in a short center failed,
driving in Cletus Boyer and Bobby Richardson, and the Yankees
take a four to one lead. So Jim Coach, who
has been hitting that ball real well this year, comes
up with a timely base hit, putting his jacket on
at birth base. Still nobody out, and here comes down Lopez.

(01:08:29):
Here comes Senor Lopez, and in this series he has
not been the gay senor that we know. Walking out
to the man and he's looking out in the bullpen,
and Lopez is signaling for the relief richer to come

(01:08:53):
out of the bullpen. And it's Chucklown who will be
coming on as Bob Shaw who looked for a while
that he might pitch a no hitter in retiring the
first eleven Yankees before giving up a walk. But the
error by a third baseman Jeane Freeze here in the

(01:09:15):
top of the fifth on Howard's ground ball got him
in a gym. Scarren single boy was hit by a
pitch ball, and then Richardson and coachs delivered two run singles.
And Sure is out of there. So Sure has pitched
the total four innings, plus getting nobody out here in
the top of the fifth. He has allowed just three

(01:09:35):
base hits, all three of them coming here in the
top of the fifth. He's walked one, struck out two,
and has allowed four runs. Jim Coates down at first base,
Shooty score will be charged to Bob Shaw. Trek Lound
coming on is making his twenty first appearance of the year.
He's won one and lost none, all of them have

(01:09:56):
been in relief. In thirty six innings of pitching, he's
given up eight Jean hits, eight runs, eight of the
morn struck out twenty sixteen based on ball, he has
a two point oh oh earned run ever Tony Kuebeck
stepping into the batter's box. Tony has been up twice
and twice bounced out to second base. Jean Freeze is

(01:10:23):
way into third base and Severs is holding first against
Jim Coates. The Yankees lead four to one the stretch
and the pitch to kuebeckers hopped ball and back out
of play. Over the White Sox dugouts one strike on Kuebeck,

(01:10:43):
who is trying to slap that ball thet Jean freeze.
Nick Danovan is up in the White Sox boll Then
here's a stretch by Loune pitch is bunnet in front
of the play prieze for the second in time. Coach
did not all right, man, that's the third or fourth
time this year that Jim Coats did not slide and

(01:11:05):
was thrown out either at the plate or at third
or at second. And of course it's tough on Kubec.
Remember even though Coach is a pitcher, it takes a
sacrifice away from Kuebec. And it's now at time at BP.
So it's a force play and was a pretty good
punt too. They had bankspin on it play going from
five to six to third basis of the shortstop covering

(01:11:27):
coaches out. Kubeck is at first. Here's Hector Lopez who
bounced the third and struck out. You know, there are
a lot of pitchers who figure they don't have to
run and slide or hustle when they get on bait.
They just have to pitch. But you take some of
the other pitchers fellas like Spawn and Red Ruffing and
d Debt, they get on they're just like another ballplayer.
There goes Kuebec. The ball has hit slowly down the
first base line. Liune up with it, throws two severs

(01:11:49):
in time to get Lopez, but Kubeck moves down to
second base, and that brings up Mickey Mantle, Mickey Blye
at center and walk. They stretch and they're gonna walk Mantles.

(01:12:20):
They're gonna walk Meddle and pitch the Marat. How do
you like that there's a switch. The way Marath has
been going this year and the way madel has been going,
you would think they'd rather pitch the Mantle than to Merat.
But maybe the White Socks know how to pitch to
Roger Merrat. That is possible. You know, some clubs can

(01:12:41):
pitch better against Certainly it is another club. They know
a weakness that the other club doesn't know about. So
they walk. Mandle intentionally brings up Roger Marris, who popped
the third and bounced out the first base. Here's a
fellow that he's the American League in home run. Here's

(01:13:01):
a stretch. The pitch it opped in the end of
the infail Lowie appree show the shortstop is moving in
under it and makes the cat so off. It looked
like the White Socks train trust knew what they were doing,
walking Mantle and pitching to Maris or the Yankees on
the top of the fifth or runs on three hits,
one White Sox Sarah two men left to score. At

(01:13:24):
the end of four and a half innings, the Yankees
four and the White Socks won to Chris.

Speaker 3 (01:13:41):
With two locker players the tipsily White, Lively, Gold and
gripsilly players to Chris, breeze pressure, fetch a cold beer.

Speaker 2 (01:14:01):
At your balance, get your get your ball.

Speaker 3 (01:14:13):
At your banne.

Speaker 2 (01:14:24):
In the bottom of the fifth inning, it'll be Al Smith,
Sherman Lawler and Jim Landers. What the Yankees leading four
to one. Right, here's Al Smith, who walked in the
second inning. Out's checking the signs from Elkston High. Fitch
is hit deeps the straightaway center field, Mantle moving back

(01:14:47):
and makes the cats and that ball with it on
the nose. So the White facts. I've been hitting the
ball hard but haven't been able to find the holes.
Brings up sherm Lalla whole line out the second base
in the second inning, on deck is Jim landed one out,

(01:15:16):
nobody on pitch till Holor is taken high inside for
a ball. The one nothing pitch is hitting the ground

(01:15:42):
in the hall and out to let fail a base
head and Clader's boy a dove through the air at
that ball just missed it and boy got up hustle
over took the cutoff throw from Lopez out at second base.
Kid really pounces around and there's the second base hit
full of white socks in the ball game. The other
one was a home run by Minoso in the fourth inning.
It brings up Jim Landers, who lined out the third

(01:16:04):
in the third inning, one away follow at first bet
Solander's hid high in the air to left fail not
too deep, heck, the Lopez moving in under it and
makes the catch. That's two ways and the White Sox

(01:16:32):
continue to hit coats up in the air, and Joe
Hicks is coming out to beat poor turk clown. Dick
Donovan continues to warm up and the White Sox both end.

(01:17:03):
Hicks is batting two fifty nine, a left hand hitter
at seven to twenty seven, one double, two runs batted
in tolerate first with two out, Yankees leading for one.
We're in the bottom of the fifth inning. Hits the

(01:17:25):
Hicks is a curve of the tie ball one. The
White Sox have hit only one ground ball off Jim Coates.
The rets have all been strikeouts and fly balls. Stretch
hits outside ball two to and nothing. The stretch the

(01:18:08):
two nothing pitch strike called basketball down the middle. Pitch
is popped in the air and the back of third base.
Boy are going back for it, turns around now and
makes the catch in file territory or the White Socks.

(01:18:32):
In the bottom of the fifth inning, no runs, one hit,
no Yankee eras one man left to score. At the
end of five pull innings, the Yankees four the White Sox.
We have a new pitcher coming in for the White Sox.
That's Stick Donovan. And while he's coming on, I'd like
to take just a minute to tell you how the
Yankees are going to make up there rained out home
dates with the Cleveland Indians. Now there are three makeup dates.

(01:18:53):
A night game on Thursday night, July twenty eighth, which
is an added game on the night's schedule break for
you fans. The Yankees in Cleveland will play a makeup
double header on Wednesday afternoon, July twenty seventh, and a
novel twin Night Double Headed commencing at six pm on
Friday night, August of twenty sixth, and this will be
the first twin Night or at Yankee Stadium in many
many a year. And now you fans with the rain

(01:19:16):
check from last Sunday's ragined out doublehead them, you can
send them in for exchange for any future game on
the Yankee home schedule. But for excellent choice of seats,
we suggest the new Cleveland Night date of Thursday, July
twenty seventh, or any of the games on the important
fourth coming home stand starting Tuesday night, June twenty eighth,
when the Kansas City Athletics opened a short Western invasion

(01:19:37):
of Yankee City. Dick Donovan making his sixteenth appearance of
the year. This is his ninth relief appearance of the year.
He's won to and lost one, but his earned runovers
is six point five four. He has not been too effective.
Church lown Fit's just wondering. You didn't give up any hits,

(01:19:58):
walk one, didn't strike out anybody or allow any run.
All the four runs have been shot to Bob Shaw,
who started, So Donovan will be facing Elston Howard, who
let off the fifth inning for the Yankees. Tricky Dick
Donovan out of the mine, stitch to Howard. It has

(01:20:21):
hit off home plate. It's a fair ball. Donovan waiting
for it to come down, throws the first in time
to get Howard, and Ellie loses his helmet crossing first base.
That ball hit right on top of home plate, went
high up in the air and you could see Donovan
trying to stretch up and grab it. It took so
long to come down, but it came down in time
for him to throw the first to retire. Howard went away.

(01:20:41):
Phil Scarron, who lined the third single e left and
the ground ball want to hop back to the pitcher.
Donovan up with it, throws the severs for the eye God,
and Donovan just did get his glove up in time

(01:21:02):
of the moose would have had another base set. It
was hit well. So the first two men that Donovan
faced hit right back to the box two ways. And
here's Quidist Boyer who struck out and was hit by
a pitch ball fire chew out nobody on pitcher, boy

(01:21:29):
line at center field of base set land Us up
with the ball on two hops and boy is on
with a solid single of centner first hit off Donovan
and the fourth hit for the Yankees in the ball game.
And here's Bobby Richardson, who delivered a clutch single in
the third inning rather the fifth inning, to drive in two.
He also lined the third in the third inning. Shoe

(01:21:57):
she was holding first against Boyer. Here's a stretch by Donovan.
Pitch to Richardson is low ball one the stretch the

(01:22:22):
one nothing pitch is taking low ball two to nothing,
two balls no strike. Boyer leading off the pitcher. Richardson

(01:22:45):
on the inside corner, strike one two one. Looks like
Boyer he's got a good lead and that he might
be going, but does a pretty good job of bluffing.
Here's a stretch show the first and that time it

(01:23:07):
looked like boy was ready to go.

Speaker 3 (01:23:17):
In.

Speaker 2 (01:23:17):
Donovan said, there goes boy The ball is hitting the
ground of third right past Freeze the left fail boys
run second, digging for third, and Richardson holds up as
he runs first base. And let's see if that's the base, said,
Freeze got to the ball, but it is a base hit.

(01:23:40):
Richison gets the second single a left field, but Jean
Freeze turned his head away and just stuck his glove
all about six inches from the ground, hoping he would
bounce up. Yankees have run is at first and third
now with two hot and here's Jim Coates who bounced
the first and then hit a single, driving in two runs.
In the fifth inning, Richardson and Coates have driven in

(01:24:02):
the four runs for the Yankees today. Yankees lead for one.
Bobby leads off for his boy or up there time
is called coachs was digging in too long and Donovan
was taking too much time out of the mind. Here's

(01:24:25):
a stretch rich outside Boarwan Donovan leaning over to get

(01:24:52):
the signs, and again Coach the time and steps out
of the box. So now Donovan wants to talk with
share H Lalla and they seem to be having a
little trouble getting together on the signals. Talking things over
out of the pitcher's box. Got things squared away, and

(01:25:18):
Lama comes back. One boll no strike's on Coach two
out boy or at third. Richardson at first miss. The
coach has swung out of miss strike one one a
one in the stretch hitch inside bow two two a one.

(01:26:11):
Here's a stretch there, goes Richardson. The ball is lying
a left field, another bait hit for coach. He run scores.
Richardson pulls up at third, the ball hits off his elbow,
goes into the dugout and Richardson will score and coach
moves all the way over to third base. Another single

(01:26:32):
by Jim Coates, another RBI for coach. Richardson scores on
the error, and we'll wait and see who gets the
error and also gets the error on the throw, which

(01:26:53):
is a tough break for many because it was a
good throw but it hit Richardson off the elbow and
into the dugouts. Here's Kubeck, but coach is third to
look out. Okay, wow, right over our heads that time

(01:27:15):
one strike on Kuebec, So Coach is driven in three runs.
Richardson has driven in two. Bobby has scored wife, as
has Kleider Spuoyer Sharon scored the other one. Coach leads
off third, the pitch to Kuebec line of left field
has a base hit and Coach scores, and the Yankees

(01:27:36):
now lead seven to one. So after two were out,
the Yankees have put together four straight singles for three
runs and they lead seven to one. Hecht Lopez bounced

(01:27:58):
the third struck out hit back to the box two
back at first the pitch the loaf has low ball one.

(01:28:19):
Jim Coates has really developed into a good hitting pitcher.
Curve outside ball two to an upping thank you for
shut out for the first four and even picked up
four in the fifth and three here in the sixth.
White Dox Lon run came in the fourth in a

(01:28:40):
homo by Minotto has a foul back out of play

(01:29:05):
two balls one strike on Hecker which is low ball three.
Frank Bowman is up in the White Socks bull fens
three and one on Lopez with two outs who back
at first base. It is hit ee in the air

(01:29:36):
a short left veil appretio back Minotto Win, Minoto calling
fort and makes the catch. All the Yankees in the
top of the six three runs on four hits, one
White Sox there one man left the score. At the
end of five and a half innings, the Yankees seven
and the Whitecks won. Rightly light, frightenly light, precically light.

Speaker 3 (01:30:13):
Chris Bree Favorite, Chris Bree far you be.

Speaker 2 (01:30:22):
A mere love pic We you love favorite Pa like
to leave.

Speaker 3 (01:30:34):
Val grisly clean the Chris Green preasure.

Speaker 2 (01:30:39):
That's happened to talk to you, you old here in

(01:31:06):
the bottom of the text thing the top of the
White Sox batting or looking at coach for the third time,
Louis appri Shaw walked top the third Yankees lead seven
to one. It's Louis on the inside corner, strike one curve,

(01:31:40):
loow outside ball one one on one on deck, Nelly Fox,
Din Tine Apple show ball's way back out of the way,

(01:32:02):
laps out his back, picks up some dirt, two balls
and one strike to wind up the pitch inside ball three,

(01:32:24):
three and one ip Prey Shore trying to get on
first day, trying to work his way on days on balls,

(01:32:46):
crouching out to play the three to one pitch in there,
strike to pull count three and two. Lay up. But
it's eat a lot of center fields way back there,

(01:33:08):
and it's a home line for a break, you all,
And they're going to fire, they'll go the fireworks, and

(01:33:36):
I think we're going together once more. Yeah, as lord
y'all preach, you'll get this first home run of the year.

(01:33:58):
And it's sixteens run by it in it's now it's
seven or two ball games. Both runs against Coach have
come off home me I know so I had one.
And the fourth inning, here's Nelly foxes over two, bounced
to short, fly to center. Smoke is clearing away from

(01:34:26):
the firework drifting over the ball box.

Speaker 5 (01:34:37):
Time out.

Speaker 2 (01:34:37):
Fox wants to stop these shadow from the smoke from
the firecrackers just drifted over the pitcher's box and home play.
Now they're gone. Fritz and Nelle is in there. Strike one.
Call nobody out here on the top of the step.
Rather the bottom of the sixth the Yankees lead seven

(01:34:59):
to two. Change up line the center field of base
it Jim Coats try to change up on Nellie Fox
and here's Miny minotesas Renotta struck out and Homer nobody out.

(01:35:41):
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Goro the first
boxes back all one inside Jim Coach checking the sign

(01:36:08):
from Elson Howard the right handed set. There's a line
on the left and it's in half for base heads
walk low Prezent's test. Fox is coming in a third
and foxd this out at third base. Fox try to

(01:36:28):
go from first to third on a line single a
left by Minosa as the Paul bounced off low Pezant's
chests on one hot but Hector picked it up and
fired to strike the third Basemancret his boyer, who made
an easy tag, and Nellie Fox was mad he knew
he made a bad play. Fox hesitated as he round
a second and that's what kept him from making it.

(01:36:52):
At Lopez is arguing with plaided up by a cal
Drummond about something. I don't know what he could be
arguing about. Lopez arguing with the old plate umpire. Maybe
he wanted Drummond to be out there for the play,
as Frank Umont had gone out in case the ball

(01:37:13):
had gotten by heck the low pezens. Lopez tried to
make a shoestring catch, but then Eumont came charging in
and he was close enough to the play and the
ball got there in plenty of time before Fox. And
now Lowpez is going to go down and argue with

(01:37:34):
Frank Umont telling him he was probably out of position
to see the play. So we got a little rule
bob going down at third base. And as a matter

(01:37:58):
of fact, it was low pezent you Mon at Yankee
Stadium who had the argument and Eumont du Lopez out
of the game. Man Al continues to stay out there
now he's start throws the White Sox suckout and I'm

(01:38:18):
sure the fans don't know why he was arguing with
both dump buyers, but they enjoy a good rule. Bob
all right. Here's Roy Sievers struck out line the third
and also is at first with one out of the
seven to two ball game in the bottom of the sixth.
Christ the Sievers a curve over strike one call. Here's

(01:38:53):
the stretch by coach pitches over strike two call nothing
in two. Bobby Shanz is warming up in the Yankee ballpen,
and Frank bomb in the left hand is still loosening
up in the White Sox bullpen. Nothing in two on
Sivers an outsold leading off first pitch is just outside

(01:39:19):
ball one. Here's a stretch. The stretches popped in the

(01:39:40):
air to write centerfield. Roger Morris moving in under it
and makes the catch. That's two ways. Brings up Jean

(01:40:00):
Freeze or twice fly to center field. Two men out,
one run in, Yankees lead seven to bottom of the
six Here's a stretch. The picture. Freeze is hit the

(01:40:25):
ball at the plate strike line one strike on Freeze.

(01:40:50):
Many men also leading off first base. Here's a stretch
pitches pop in the He had a short right field
Roger Marris moving under it now and makes the catch.
He lost that ball momentarily in the sun, had a
weightlet came out of the sun, then charged in for
the White Sox in the bottom of the sixth one

(01:41:12):
run on three base hits, no Yankee Erason one man
left the score at the end of six goal and
he was the Yankee seven and the White Sox two.
You take a look at the scoreboard and Boston defeated
Cleveland seven to one in the first game Man Boket
the winner, Perry to lose a Malson, Ted Williams and
Gary Geiger Homan for the Red Sox and the second

(01:41:34):
game bost to nothing Cleveland. Batting in the bottom of
the first Brewer against Bell Ballamollis Detroit won nothing at
the end of six and a half. Willhelm against Bunning,
Washington leaeds Kansas City three, nothing at the end of three,
Lee against Trobridge in the National League at Cincinnati four
in the Cups three at the end of seven. Thomas
and Lynch ofp Homan in that game, Milwaukee two and
Saint Louis two at the end of six and a

(01:41:56):
half and Pittsburgh at LA and Philadelphia San Francisco start
later on and in just a very few seconds with
the White Sox coming in to change pictures, Frank Baman
coming on to take over for Dick Donovan. Boman will

(01:42:18):
be the fourth White Sox pitcher of the day. They
started with Bob Shaw, then Turklin, Dick Donovan, and now
Frank Obaman and the Yankees leading seven to two. Mill
Anam will be coming over right after we pour forth
station identification.

Speaker 6 (01:42:34):
You aren'tune the fourteen sixty You on the radio dial
your station for music, news and sports in the Capitol
District of Albanie. Connected again Troy Woko serving you with
the best of everything. Time on the wok o'clock in
ten seconds will be four thirty one.

Speaker 5 (01:43:08):
Hello there, everybody. First half of the seventhning, Makey Mantle
advance against Frank Bauman. Mickey takes hid inside for a
ball seven to two New York Mandle applying the center
and walk twice. Ballman's pitch in the air force strike

(01:43:39):
the one one delivery swung on and miss drank two
one and two.

Speaker 2 (01:43:58):
Hi her ball to.

Speaker 5 (01:44:03):
H high outside. The next pitch ball pray friends who.

Speaker 2 (01:44:22):
O count the payoff.

Speaker 5 (01:44:36):
Pitch the Mantle outside for ball four. He walked for
the third straight time, the fifty second walk for Mickey.
Now Rojamaras, who popped the third, rounded the first and
popped the short Yanks seven White Sox two bowman checks Mickey.

(01:45:08):
They pitch to rod Is inside for a ball. Dick
Donovan worked one inning, giving up four hits and three runs,
giving up four singles. After retiring the first two men,
Mantle moves away from first Bomban with a stretch and
the pitch. It's over strike one one in one, I

(01:45:42):
won one count. Frank Bauman delivers to Maris, who swings
and filed tips at strike two, one and two. Ready

(01:46:07):
for the one two delivery. Here it is swing on
a little roller hit the third. Praise up with the
phrase the second base in time. Apprasio taking the pro
the manel forced a second praise the appirasio Mara is
safe at first hit the ball right off the end
of the bat. Now coming up is Elston. Howard applyed

(01:46:31):
to right center. We're safe on a throwing error by
praise and hit for the box ballman. All set. They

(01:46:59):
pitched to Howard right over strike one. We don't know
the second game pitches for certain, probably Russ Cammerer and

(01:47:21):
Duke Moss. They pitched to Howard, swung on and missed
strike two. Ralph Terry had originally been announced, but Ralph
h somehow they're uh suffered a slight uh ligament's pain
in his uh right knee. They pitched two. Howard swung

(01:47:46):
on and missed strike three. Two men down the seventh
inning and Bill Scarron's coming to bat. He lined the
third single the left and hit to the box. Rank

(01:48:12):
Boman into the stretch, checks Marius moving off first, delivers
through moose low ball one, one ball, no strikes, move

(01:48:34):
to first, Marius is back, Marrius moving off brother. They
pitched the scar on is low two balls, no strikes.

(01:48:57):
Rank Baman may develop in quite a picture under Al
Lopez tutelage. He was got quite a handsome bonus to
sign with the Red Sox. The Pits swung on and
fouled off well. The combination of being a bonus player

(01:49:18):
and having him go into service and not getting into
tip top playing condition cost him consistent success with the
Red Sox, and so they traded him away but he's
got good stuff. Two balls, one strike now the delivery
high and away ball three. His prime problem has been

(01:49:40):
the wildness.

Speaker 2 (01:49:58):
Two down.

Speaker 5 (01:50:00):
And the three one pitches outside the ball four. Scarron walks.

Speaker 2 (01:50:09):
Down.

Speaker 5 (01:50:10):
The second goes Maris and coming up as cleet Bowyer
struck out. Was hit by a pitched ball and single
to center strike one at the outside part of the plate.

(01:50:38):
Fastball tails away from the right hand hitter. The next pitched,
Boyer swung on as a bouncer to Aparista was up
with it, tosses on deceivers. Retiring, Boyer had the Yankees.

Speaker 2 (01:51:00):
No runs, no.

Speaker 5 (01:51:01):
Hits, no errors, two men left on at then of
six and a half innings, New York seven, Chicago two,
and the throng out here today rises for the seventh
inning stretch. Why aren't you get in the kitchen and
stretch your hand into that refrigerator and get yourself.

Speaker 2 (01:51:26):
You know what.

Speaker 5 (01:51:29):
Some of that crispal pressure Valentine beer, which to really
refresh a beer must have lightness plus flavor.

Speaker 2 (01:51:40):
I know, you know that.

Speaker 5 (01:51:42):
Of course the folks that Valentine know that, and that's
what they got, lightness and flavor. Valentine proves to more
people every day that a beer can be light and
still give you all the lag of beer flavor you want.
The fact is Valentine's eight beer with true lago flavor.
This delicious light lager flavor is what makes Valentine Beer

(01:52:06):
the crisp for pressure. So if you drink beer for
taste and for freshman, then Valentine's the beer for you.
Try it and see for yourself why. Valentine's the most
popular beer from Maine to Florida, the largest selling beer
in the East. The last half of the seventh th
hal Smith coming up a lot around deck and land

(01:52:30):
us to follow Yankee seven White Sox two. Smith walked
and lined the center. They've hit some pretty good shots
off coats in this game. The pitch is in there
for strike slim Jim to the wind up and the

(01:53:00):
pitch breaking stuff over strike two nothing in two cowballs,
two strikes. Coach of the wind up fires away and

(01:53:26):
it hits the bat and skips off to the right
of the plate. Count remains two strikes, two strike count

(01:53:54):
on smittye and the pitch is one on and filed
off to the left of the plate. Bob Brush is
warming up for the White Sox and Bob Turley born
New York no balls two strikes and the pitch swung

(01:54:27):
on line down the left bee a line and it
is a fair ball.

Speaker 2 (01:54:30):
Into the corner. Bob has chasing its committy. He goes
for two.

Speaker 5 (01:54:34):
He rounds thatcond and holds up with a double of left.
Al Smith lines a double into the left field corner
for the sixth hit off Coat, and once again Bobby

(01:54:55):
Shantz gets up to warm up. This has not been
one of coaches better performances, despite the fact that the
White Sox up and now I've only gotten two runs,
but they both were scored on homers. They've been hitting
a lot of lion drives. There's Chrm Laller line the
second into a double play and single the left. They

(01:55:19):
pitched the Laller in their first strike. He took the
speed off that fit. The White Socks are sort of
for the most part, sitting back waiting on that fastball.
Jim Coach delivers Laller swings and lets the pop fowl

(01:55:42):
off of up to the plate, Howard getting under it.

Speaker 2 (01:55:44):
He has got it.

Speaker 5 (01:55:47):
Laller files out to Howard. That's Jim Landis who lined
the third and plied the left and Ted Kazuski is
coming out, and we'll finch hit poor Frank Bowman. Al

(01:56:18):
Smith bomb second went away. Smith was a good lad
they pitched the Landers swung on and missed strike one.

Speaker 2 (01:56:30):
He was loveling.

Speaker 5 (01:56:34):
He was going for the long one. Coach delivers. Landis
takes a curve over strike two go balls, two shrinks.

(01:57:16):
Smith moves away from second base, the stretch back coats
and the pitch basketball lion. I'm up, pee a lion
for base hit Smith. Brown's third comes into score the
provost the second Lander's holds at first it's seven or three. Well,
they're ten off on the basketball and here now Kazuski

(01:57:38):
to hit for Frank Bowman. Big flu up there with

(01:57:59):
one way as the right White Sox rallying here in
the seventh they got three hits of Coach lasting at
have two so far of this inn. He coach to

(01:58:31):
the Stratian the picture of Kazuski outside ball White Howard
didn't like to call. Landis moves off first, pitched the clue,

(01:59:08):
swung on and hopped up.

Speaker 2 (01:59:11):
Howard. I'm witch and he's got it.

Speaker 5 (01:59:21):
Two away, and now Louis Aparizio, who walked about a
third and hit a home run on a three two pitch,
his first of the year. Frank Corsetti dollars out to
Borrow to remind him of Louis's ability to bunt. You

(01:59:48):
have to depend against it whether he bunts or not.
The delivery swung on south toward second, riches up with it,
tips on second for the force out, and the sides retired.
The balls bounced over the pitcher's head right over towards
the second and Bobby went over and gloved it and

(02:00:09):
stepped on second. One run, two hits, no errors, and
one left on. At the end of seven innings, the
Yankees seven runs, seven hits, no errors, six left on.
Chicago three runs, seven hits, two errors, and four men

(02:00:34):
left on. How about trying some of that Valentine? Wasn't
a tall foaming glass of the Christal pressure go pretty good?

Speaker 4 (02:00:42):
Right now?

Speaker 5 (02:00:43):
Treat your taste of the crispal pressure Valentine beer. Bob
Rush is coming in to pitch. While Rush is coming in,
we'll take a quick look at the Valentine scoreboard. Boston

(02:01:07):
ba Cleveland seven to one, the second game, scoreless, end
of two Baltimore leading Detroit two to nothing. They're playing
the last of the ninth inning. Washington six Kansas City nothing.
Ten of four and a half in the National League,
Cincinnati beat the Cubs four to three in the first game.
The Cardinals leading Milwaukee four to two end of seven

(02:01:29):
and a half. Philadelphian San Francisco scoreless at the end
of an inning and a half. Pittsburgh at Los Angeles
have not yet gotten underway. Bob Rush made his first
appearance for the White Sox yesterday and went two and
two thirds innings. Gave up five hits in three runs,
including homers to Mandlin Merritts. Thirty five year old right

(02:01:55):
hander stands six five. He's relieving Frank Bauman. Bawman worked
the seven, walk two men, struck out one, didn't allow
any runs, didn't allow any hits. Shawl Lownd, Donovan Bauman,

(02:02:17):
and now Rush. Bobby Richardson, hitting eighth in the order,
leads off coach to follow, and then Tony Kubeck. Richardson
lined the third single to left twice, driven in two runs.
Bob Rushes pitch in there strike one. Rush's next pitch

(02:02:47):
is a change up outside ball one. One in one.
The one one delivery, Richardson pounds it off checking his swing,
bow glanced off into the stands behind the plate, six

(02:03:27):
foot five, bright hander of the wind up, the overhand
Delebriarty swung on foul tipped into the midst trank three
and he's out. Here comes Jim Coates, grounded the first
single twice and driven in three runs. Comes up with
a three forty six batting average, GYM sixty three and

(02:04:25):
rush is sixty five. Bob's delivery inside and gets between
the batter and catcher of the screen. One ball, those
strikes the one I think Pat John's way high ball

(02:04:57):
to the two nothing pitch swung on admit strike one.

Speaker 2 (02:05:15):
Are you ready?

Speaker 5 (02:05:15):
It took a good cut. Now the two one pitch

(02:05:37):
on his way to Jim Coates, look out, ball pretty
high an inside graine one three balls, one strike, eighth inning,

(02:06:02):
rush into the wind up, in comes the pitch and
it's over strike to pull count. Here's the payoff pitch

(02:06:24):
on its way. Jim Coate swings and missus strike three.
Bob Rush coming on, striking out the first two men.
Now here's Tony Kubeck grounded the second twice wanted toward third,
but into a forced play and single to left. Rush

(02:06:58):
delivers to Tony her ball inside ball one, so one nothing,
pitch to the left hand hitter swung on, looped into
left Bie old Monosa waiting and takes it for the out.

(02:07:21):
Sides retired, no runs, no hits. Nowhere is no one
left on and at the end of seven and a
half innings of play, the store remains New York seven,
Chicago three. You know, when it comes to having my
favorite team that you root for, well, it just a

(02:07:46):
matter of preference. It's always interesting to find out why
somebody roots for a team. Sometimes's where you vandparents live.
Sometimes it's because you like a certain guy and a
certain team or whatever. I'm sure many of you have

(02:08:07):
a preference. It's the type of glass you like your
beer served in. That's a matter of personal taste. What
counts is what's in the glass. And there's one beer
that delivers top taste and refreshment in any glass, the
crisper pressure Valentine beer. That Golden Valentine is mighty refreshing.
And when it comes to flavor, Valentine's the light beer

(02:08:30):
with true Laga flavor. Proofs of beer can be truly
light and still give you all the downright delicious Laga
beer flavor you want. That's why Valentine beer is the
Christal pressure. So enjoy the one beer that tastes great
anytime in any glass. Light delicious Valentine Beer. The crisp pressure.

(02:08:57):
The last half of the eighth inning meltson Fox up,
Menosa and Sea Vers Apollo. Fox bounded to short, flive
to center and single the center. Jim Coats delivers in
their first strike. There was a half speed pitch. They've

(02:09:17):
been taking that and swinging on his fastball. Apparently it's
lost some of its theam or not moving. Coats again delivers,
swung on, grounded into the hole. Richardson can't get it.
It's throw in the right field for a base hit,
and Fox opens the eighth with a single, and the

(02:09:39):
White Sox have been getting two. Coats gave up two
hits over the first five innings, three in the sixth,
two in the seventh, and one so far in the eighth,
and the Yankee bullpen gets a call again as many.
Menosa comes up, struck out, hit a home run and
single the left Woko Albany five o'clock. White Sox now

(02:10:03):
about hits the Yankees eight to seven. Jim Coats end
of the stretch, pitched the minoso, swung on, grounded to Boyer,
over to Richardson for one back on to first double play.

(02:10:28):
Many went after that first pitch and grounds into a
double play. Boyard to Richardson two. Scarron Yankees fifty seventh
double play or fifty eighth double play. That made two
in this game. Here's Roy Severs struck out line the
third and flied the right center yank seven socks three

(02:10:53):
eighth coach into his wind up man the pitch just
inside ball one, but why nothing deliberate basketball inside ball two,

(02:11:40):
into the wind up and the pitch outside ball three,
three balls all strikes. Coats to the wind up three nothing,

(02:12:05):
pitch inside.

Speaker 2 (02:12:06):
For ball four and he walks.

Speaker 5 (02:12:10):
And the batter now is Jean Priest. Third walk given
up by Coats. Priest applying to right center, lying to
center and applying to right breeze up and hal Smith
on deck. Churley and Shans are warming up for New York.

(02:12:40):
Jim Coats ready and the pitch swung on. There's a
fly ball into center Mantle moves in hundred, makes the
catch to retire the side, no runs, one hit, no errors,
and one left off. At the end of eight innings,
New York seven runs, seven hits, no errors, six left on.

(02:13:02):
The White Sox three runs, eight hits, two eras, and
five men left on base. Looking at the Valentine scoreboard.
In the American League, Boston beat Cleveland the first game
seven to one. Bomboo cat beat Perry home runs, malezone,
Williams of two on in Geiger number five oh one

(02:13:23):
for Ted. Second game scoreless, end of three Brewer and
Bell Baltimore two Detroit nothing. Tiger's batting. In the last
of the ninth Willhelm pitching for Baltimore, and the game
is just over. Baltimore wonted two to nothing, two runs,
eight hits, no airs, Detroit no runs, two hits and

(02:13:45):
no eras. Two hitter for Wilhelm bunning the loser. Morgan
relieved in the eighth Hanson homeward in the ninth, first
game of two. In a single game, the Senators sixth
Kansas City nothing, ten to five and a half. I
mean by that they are not playing a doubleheader. Lee
for Washington, cooks for Kansas City, Trobridge and the second
Kylie in the sixth National League Cincinnati beat the Cubs

(02:14:08):
in the first game four to three oh two beat
Hobby the fourteenth homer for Thomas had won on Lynch
at one. On second game, Ellsworth and McLeish first game,
Cardinals four Braves two at end of eight and a half.
Simmons are lead by Brolio. In the seventh and for
the Braves, Warren's fond Pittsburgh and Los Angeles will be
Daniels and Kopax Fels and Giants scoreless end of two.

(02:14:31):
Robertson Odell hect Lopez takes the ball inside. As we
go to the ninth inning, Bob Brush, the fifth White
Sox pitchers. Lopez grounded a third struck out hit to
the box, fly to left, takes a fastball high for
ball two, two balls, no strikes. Mandelon Beck and Maris

(02:14:54):
to follow Big Bob. Ready they bitch the hector in
there for the strike a two to one count. Now

(02:15:22):
the two to one pitch the right hand batter swung
on and file back out of play, and we paused
for station identification.

Speaker 6 (02:15:29):
You are during the fourteen sixty on the radio dais
is your station four Music, News and Sports Woko Albany
time on.

Speaker 1 (02:15:37):
The wok o'clock is six minutes after five.

Speaker 5 (02:15:40):
Parson temperature is seventy eight degrees. Two balls, two strikes
and the two to two pitch in there called strike
three and Hector innuity went right away from the plate.

(02:16:03):
Gray Strancott's out of the four hitters rush his face.
Mickey Mantle coming up, flimbed the center and has walked
three times. Rojah Marason day Bob rushed to his wind up,

(02:16:28):
fanned the pitch high ball one. Now the one nothing pitch.

(02:16:49):
Mantle takes inside ball two. Here's the two nothing pitch
on his way. Mickey takes very high ball three, three nothing.

(02:17:31):
They three nothing delivery swung On grounded a second not
but it his fox throws on too. Sabers and Mantles retired.
He got a green light but grounds out the second.
Roger Maris popped the third, grounded the first, popped the
short and grounded a third two away. In the ninth

(02:17:54):
hy Bob Brush delivers to Maras inside ball one, the

(02:18:25):
one nothing pitch to roj swung On. There's a bouncer
to second box up with it throws deceivers. Maris is
retired and sore. The Yankees no runs, no hits, no errors,
no one left on and at the end of eight
and a half innings, New York seven, Chicago three. In

(02:18:46):
the last half of the ninth thinning, Smith, Lawler and
Landis are the scheduled batters for Chicago. Right now, let's
look at the lighter side of baseball. Take this storry
about a feeler who really got the bird while trying
to snag a fly happened during a night game when
the batter lost at a high flyout. The right field

(02:19:09):
looked like an easy out until a nighthawk that had
been preached in the stands swooped down text us the
ball deflected it over the astonished feeler's head. Of course,
the runner wound up with the double and that led
to the winning run. Actually happened. The fielder probably brought
a shotgun with him the game after that. And here's

(02:19:30):
something else on the lighter side. The story on the
crisp perpressure Valentine beer Valentine's The Light Bear with true
Laga flavor. It proves a beer can be truly light
and still give you all that honest to goodness Laga
beer flavor. You want enjoy it, just ask the man
for frosty cold Valentine beer. The crisp propressure. Now to

(02:19:57):
the last half of the ninth inning. Al Smith leads off.
He walked line the center and doubled the left. Jim
Coats goes to the wind up and the pitch to
Smithy is lowing inside ball one. Jim pitched the fine

(02:20:21):
first five innings, but he's been in trouble the last
three innings. The one nothing pitch swung on line but
foul down the left b line out of place. Strike
one one in one, one ball one strike. Here's the

(02:21:03):
one one pitch low ball two, two and one. Coach's
into the wind up and the two one delivery high
ball pree three won the count on Al Smith and

(02:21:42):
the three one pitch. It's inside ball four and Smith
walks four walks given up by Coats and the bullpen
gets to go on. As Sherman Lawler comes to back.
He lined the second into a double play a single
left and filed out to the catcher. They pitched the

(02:22:16):
Lawyer outside for a ball. Chanson Turley warming up now

(02:22:41):
and they pitch the Lawyer in there strike one one
in one. Jim coach ready, here's the pitch and it's

(02:23:05):
low ball too. Two balls, two strikes, all right, check
that here's a pitch swung on. There's a drive in

(02:23:29):
the deep right. Maris going back now he moves in
and makes the catch. Went away and Jim Landis is
coming up. He lined the third flind the left and
single the left. Jim Coates pitching to Jim Landers and

(02:24:11):
the delivery is in their for strike. Earl Tourguson is
out on deck. They hit for rush. Landers lined the
third fly the left, single to left. Smith leads off first.
Coach delivers. Landis takes it outside for a ball one

(02:24:34):
one one one pitched. The Landers swung on, filed off

(02:24:57):
on the ground over to the White Sox dugout a
one two count. Coach gets Howard signed. Smith leads away

(02:25:22):
from first. Now the pitch and Landis takes a ball
on a change up to two. A stretch by coach Smith,

(02:25:45):
ball first the two two pitch, the god ball pray
sail hid inside one count bull count on Landis al

(02:26:14):
Smith ready to go. The pitcher swung on him. Miss
Smith didn't go strike three Smith started and held up,
and now Earl Torguson comes up to hit for Bob Brush.

(02:26:40):
Three strikeouts for coachs Torgi has done a good pinch
hitting job for the White Sox. Left hand batter Coach
delivers in there for a strike. He's had five out
of thirteen as a pinch hitter for a three five

(02:27:00):
average batting to eighty six overall in the season. Jim
Coach delivers a change up, has swung on hit back
through the middle for a base head. Smith turned second,
goes on to third, and Turkey has six or fourteen

(02:27:22):
as a bench hitter. Now Louis Aparicio steps up, a
Fox on deck Chlouie walked, fouled a third, hit a

(02:27:45):
home run, and rounded out the second. Here's the delivery
outside ball one. Coach pitches Louis wings at the base,

(02:28:20):
hit the right field, mid stores and targets up the
second and it's seven the boar and now some Fox
coming up with many minsa on day they got the

(02:28:43):
tying round the plate. Nelson Fox is at two for

(02:29:11):
four times called at Rasio is talking to uh Gutteridge.
Jim coats to the stretch the pitch the Fox in

(02:29:32):
their first strike jarge on second at ratio on first,
Coach delivers and Fox starts to bunt, takes it for

(02:29:54):
a ball one in one. He wants to get on,
of course, naturally getting Mini up there two men laid away.

(02:30:20):
Now the pitch swung.

Speaker 2 (02:30:21):
On hit in the right field for base hit. There
come of targets on the score Apery Joe score and Fox.
Aprito stops at third on a double five Fox and
at seven to five for the.

Speaker 5 (02:30:40):
Tang runs in scoring position and singles out of the
dugout Nelson Fox double the right. They held uh Apricho
up at third. He started to come home, but they
held him up, and so the time runs are in

(02:31:09):
scoring position, the winning run at.

Speaker 2 (02:31:11):
The plate.

Speaker 5 (02:31:14):
And Bob Turley gets the call. Jim Coates went eight
and two thirds innings, giving up eleven hits walk for
struck out three and so the Yankees seven to one

(02:31:38):
lead is now seven to five, and the tying runs
are in scoring position and the winning run at the
plate Bob Turley is coming in. Nelson Fox getting his

(02:32:21):
eleventh double and twenty eighth run batted in. Jim Coach
started to run out of gas in the sixth, and
he gave up three hits, two in the seventh, one
in the eighth, and the walk and three hits there
in the night. Enosa the batterer, and sabers on days

(02:32:58):
this will be Bob Turley is the eleventh of Paris.
Now Jim Coach leaves.

Speaker 2 (02:33:43):
Five.

Speaker 5 (02:33:43):
Turley warming up so that giant throng, and I had
something to holler about here in the ninth and he
with two outs three straight base hits. The put the
White Sox right back into the thick of it. Now

(02:34:09):
home Ronald went at a base hit'll die, man, We're
set to go, And here's Minny. Minosa struck out homeward
single the left and grounded a third. And so the

(02:34:46):
White Sox leading RBI. Man's at the plate. Runners laid
away from second and third, the wind up, the pitch
outside ball one, Many be slashing journey into the wind up,

(02:35:15):
and the pitch to Manoso Hi ball too, Apri Sho

(02:35:37):
on third, Fox on second, Many digs in turney into
the wind up and the pitch swung on. Howard moving
over towards the stands, and he's gone. The ball games
over and my NASA when Howard threw the mask away

(02:36:03):
to go after the foul ball. The mask which Howard
threw away hit Minosa in the face, one of those
odd accidents. The game is over, Minosa files out, but
as Howard ran after the ball, he took the mask
and slung it and it accidentally hit Many in the pace.

(02:36:25):
Two runs for Chicago, three hits, no errors, too left on. Meantime,
at home plate, they're checking Many. Howard is in there
and apologizing to him. When the ball was filed off,
Elly just slung the mask off as they normally do

(02:36:47):
going after the ball, and just happened to hit Many right.

Speaker 2 (02:36:51):
On the mouth.

Speaker 5 (02:36:54):
And he gets up now and is walking off. One
of those crazy accidents. Seems that it hit him on
the lifts.

Speaker 2 (02:37:06):
And so.

Speaker 5 (02:37:09):
Crazy ending to a ball game that wound up with
all the excitement you could want, as the Yankees, who
were leading seven to one, barely hung on here to
win it seven to five. And here are the totals.
The Yankees seven runs, seven hits. They got all their

(02:37:29):
runs and hits in two innings the fifth and six
no errors, six left on Chicago five runs, eleven hits,
two errors, and seven men left on base. Jim Coates

(02:37:55):
is the winning pitchers, won eight and lost none, two
and nothing against Chicago this year, twelve consecutive wins, four
Coats coming his last four last year, and with the
Yankees have now won fourteen and lost one. Today, he
was very sharp for the first five innings, but over
the last four over four and two thirds, with Charlie

(02:38:20):
coming into relieve him, he gave up a total of
nine base hits and four runs. The losing pitcher's Bobshaw,
of the record of five and seven now nothing and
two against New York. The White Sox won the first
four games against the Yankees this year, and the Yankees
have won the last six from Chicago. Well, that wraps

(02:38:41):
up the first game of this afternoon's doubleheader from Kamiski
Park in Chicago. Brought to you by p.
