(00:23):
The loser in that ballgame, Gary Peter, for directing now
is two in time, So Todamyern moves ahead in Peter's
drawsback just a little bit, must have a left. At
the starting line ups in the second ball game for
the White Dots DRAMs, Betty Bradford will lead off and
play left field. Louis Apricia will be at chuck stop

and he'll back a second. Pete Ward will be at
third base, hitting third, playing first base and batting clean up.
Tommy mccrur ken Barry will be the center field They're
batting fifth. Wayne Crosey will be at second base getting six.
Bill Voss, the right fielder, will bat seventh, doing the
(01:08):
catching and batting eight. Jerry mcnurtney and Disco Carlos will

(01:31):
and play center. Andy Costo will be in right field.
He'll back six. Bill Gifts will be behind the plate
in this game, hitting six. Ah, the y we just
heard was the fact that Mantle will be playing in
this ball game and he'll be batting third, as we
mentioned then playing first base. We just mentioned. The Gifts
(01:52):
will be catching and hitting six. Bobby cop running that
third ball game, will be at third base, batting seventh.
Gene Michael will be the dreutch Stock in this bag game,
Tommy Tresh getting arrest Michael will play short and hit eight,
and Bill Marboquette will be pitching and patting Knight. The
Empires as they come out of the Yankee dugout along
(02:14):
with manager Ralph Hack and now Marv Wilsom is coming
up with the lineup with a White Sox, and every
day in the four games that the Yankees and the
White Stock to play, the different man has come out
with a White Sox lineup in the first game, it
was Pete Wood and how Marv Dissam. The fifteen phase
is coming out with the Socks lineup, the Empires behind
(02:36):
the plate, Hanks Tore at first, Pase and Nester Shylock
at second base, Bill Kinneman and rookie russ Getz will
be at third. Bill Mambouquet continues to warm up, and
we're about ready to go on this second ballgame. The
person the Firth Strait that the Yankees have swept from
the Socks was warderfully mentioned by Mel Solomon. The ball
(03:01):
game was just about decided in the first inning after
Crackett single White popped the short Tony Trutch doing the
home run into the left field seats to give the
Yankees a two nothing lead. Yanks got another run in
the second on a home run by Bobby Cox. They
picked up two more in the fifth inning to conclude
their scoring, and the White Sox broke the spring of
(03:22):
thirty nine scoreless innings in the eighth when they finally
came up with the run at Sandy Alomar going into
Finchland for Dwayne Josephson finally scored on an infield single
off the glove of Bobby Coxs by Twinn Bury. So
that's the way it stands right now, is we wait
for their second ball game, a beautiful day at the stadium.
(03:44):
Is still a lot of actions to go. And while
we're waiting, the Yankees are now taking the field. Here
they come on the scoreboard. All the other games are
(04:09):
single games. This is the only doubleheader being played in
the Major League today. On the scoreboard. Baltimore leading Washington
six to Warren in the six, Boston and Minnesota scoreless
in the fourth, lives in the California and Detroit at
open in the later start in the National leg the
Mets in the Braves are not as yet underway. See
(04:31):
that's being held up because of lane. Are they just
getting a last side o? The Mets failed to score
on the top of the first inning at Stiver against Micro.
In other actions, Philadelphia three and the Cardinals nothing in
the fourth, Cincinnati three, the Pirates two in the fourth.
Thus lead the Giants, who are leading the National League
(04:53):
more than nothing in the fifth Inny and the Dodgers
in the Astro bar Silets were running in the second.
So that's the way it is right now. And in
that LA Houston ball game, Don Drysdale going for a
fourth great shutout. He is that some kind of a
pitcher for the LA Dodgers this year. Okay, Buddy Bradford
(05:16):
is coming on. Bradford batting at point oh ninety seven,
three day system, thirty one at bats, one of those
home run and two ibis. Buddy Bradford coming on. And
Bill Mambo qutt on the mound for the Yankees. Mambo
(05:37):
with a record of four and three, shooting for his
fifth win. Mambo kit right up there and all time
wins among active pitchers in the American League, about one
hundred and thirteen victories. Buddy Bradford, right hand batter with speed.
Hole's about on the end. The first pitch of the
game is on the ground of the shortstop Michael. He
(05:57):
gobbles this one up whipt over. The man will wake
out one away, one pitch in, one out. Now that'll
bring up Louis Tafris Show that first ball game, the
Yankees at five runs and eight hits, the White Sox
one run on four hits. Louis Nafric Show hitting at
two forty eight, two home runs and ten RBI, stepping
(06:19):
in there Bill Mambo Kett, who wastes no time into
the wind up fastball got away from Gibz and Mambo
Kett fell off the mount when he threw that ball.
Forget the Yankees and the Mets. Tomorrow night, eight o'clock
(06:40):
at Chase Stadium, Marror's Trophy Game. Then on Tuesday night,
Big Hondo, Frank Howard, he'll be here with the Senators,
and also the Senators will play a doubleheader Memorial Day
on Thursday. First one at one o'clock. Affrey Show takes
a strike right in there from Mambo Katt. One ball
and one strike coaching at first base, Kirby Parrel, Grover
(07:08):
Recinger coaching at third for the Socks. The one one
pitched to Louis Lyne to Michael off his glove into
the center field. It was a short hot that kicked
off his glove and dribbled into center field. So Louis no,
they're charging Jean Michael with an air and that's a
tough error because that ball as well had kicked off
the heel of his glove. In the center field, there
(07:30):
was a line drive one hopper that Michael could not
come up with, so Afree Show does not get to
base it and Michael is charged with an error. All right,
here is Pete Ward stepping in their ward at two
sixty nine, eight home run seventeen RBIs left hand batter
(07:52):
Afre Show at first to pitch the Pete on the ground.
Man Alazi noted the town pix it up, races to
the back when moving to second. Is Aper issued that
ball kicked off in the file territory. Ward is out
of there, as man, I'll walk the ball. It rolled
about six feet away and Louis went all the way
to second unmolested. As man, He'll pick up the ball
(08:14):
and retire Pete Ward. Tom mccross stepping in there. Lcrow
hitting at two eleven, three home runs and ten RBIs
the Yankees would just love to make a sweep of
this series. The White Sox has scored only one run
(08:36):
in twenty seven innings against the Yankees. Why mccrawe waiting,
he takes that side ball one. Bill mambo Kett a
record of four and three one and zero against the
Socks ten and twelve lifetime. Most of that ten and
twelve record compiled when it was with the Boston Red
(08:58):
Sox and also with Detroit. The old campaigner Bill Mambo
cat White, a veteran uh White, a pitcher. Here's the
one who pitched the McCraw. He had hard and foul
down the right field side. He really jumped on that
one one ball, one strike, one ball, one strike. Alright,
(09:43):
Mambo cat two McCraw on the ground, A horse clerk
at second base. He's up at the foot. The man
at lit time at the side is retired. No run,
no his one hair, one man left and the score
after a happening a play White Sox brothering. He's coming
to back. So here's someone who knows baseball inside and out,
(10:05):
the white owl girl. Let me ask you who's gonna
be the next Hall of Famer?
Speaker 2 (10:10):
Personally, I think it will be that pitcher who smokes
white owls. He has so much going for him. And
then there's that other player, the catcher, the invincible man.
He's always smoking one.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
Yeah. I really like that catcher, invincible man. Well, who's
gonna walk off with the Most Valuable Player award this year?
Speaker 2 (10:31):
I voke for that outfielder. I forget his name, but
you know him. He's a big Ranger fan. Why do
you pick these ball players that stand up because they
have such a good taste. Anyone who smokes a white
owl has. It's the way white owl ages the tobacco
mellows it to bring out that mild taste.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
One more thing, do you have any advice from a
budding ball player he wants to make it to the
big league?
Speaker 2 (10:56):
I tell them to try white owl find out why
you get a lot more from a white house than
just smoke.
Speaker 1 (11:11):
Well, we're set to go here in the bottom of
the first inning, and I said that the White Sox
has scored only one run in twenty seven inning. But
I've forgotten that the Friday night game and the Saturday
afternoon game yesterday were extra innings, So it's really only
one run in thirty two innings because the Friday night
game went thirteen and the Saturday game went ten. Yeah,
(11:35):
of course there's one inning in this game, which makes
it thirty three. So they've been having trouble scoring runs.
Yankees have not scored too many of them, but they
have got the wins, and that's what counts Yankees right now.
The record of nineteen and twenty two, they're currently in
seventh place in the American League, intending the outcome of
(12:01):
the Cleveland California game. If the Yankees went up there
and the Indians beat California, the Yankees willkie California for six.
All right, here's Hoace Clark stepping in, batting a two
twenty two, no extra base. It's in two. RBIs Ward
(12:22):
is in a third base way in a third. First
pitch by Condos is a curve. It's inside ball one well,
Cisco Condos a record of two and four one and
zero against the Yankees is life mark, and the major
leagues is four and four. It's just the youngster. Cr
Ball drops in there for a strike. Ward a third
(12:49):
after show at short second basement is causey the first
baseman McCraw in her defense for the Socks assloris thanks
went on the corner for strike two. Boris Clark batting
(13:12):
from the left side, that's what hitter against the right
hand at Fusco Carlos. Carlow's long and lean into the
wind up. Here's the one two pitch curveball one oper
right back to Carlos. He's got it, whips it to
McCraw went away. Yeah. Here comes Roy White White batting
(13:34):
at two ninety six, and it's been a long time
since he's dropped below three hundred. Roy with three home
runs and thirteen RBIs. White was o for three in
the first ball game, choking up batting from the left side.
(13:56):
Carlo's ready to pitch to White is a little bit low.
Ball one. Carlos ready again, the right hand her into
the wine up. Here's the one whill pitch kurkball line
a left coming off fast. Bradford can't get it, so
(14:18):
Roy White jumped the single in the left field. Well,
(14:42):
Mickey Mantle, who missed the last three ball games, is
stepping in there. Mantle played with a virus playing in
this final game the second game. Standing in there, Carlos
delivers and Mickey takes rank one. God, listen to those
(15:03):
fans Mickey Maddle, what a reaction he creates. Right. Mantles,
standing deep in the batter's box on the left side,
holds the bat right in the end. Here's the pitch
(15:23):
curve ball jumped in the left center field. Bradford moving
over very and they almost collided, but Bradford got to
it and took the ball. Get very Buddy, Bradford almost collided. Well,
Mandle is out of there as Bradford makes the catch.
Now Here is Joe Peppoton. Incidentally, when Mickey was batting
(15:44):
a two twenty with four homers and ten RBIs, and
now here's pepotone hitting a two forty one home run
and five rbiyes. Jerry mcmurtney, the catcher is out there,
serving a little conference with picture. Joe peppertog straight upstairs,
(16:13):
slightly closed, moves up toward the picture, doesn't stay deep
in the box. Carlo's taking his time. Quite a fast
man on at first. When they throw over there, Roy
leaves the Yankees and sole invasions with eight. He is
a treat to run at any time. Last time Carlos
(16:37):
went out against the Yankees, he beat them four to one.
All right, Carlos said, White, moving off, wrote a person
White is back again, Whitey four It is coaching at
first four the Yankees and Frank Corsetti at third. Carlos pitch,
(17:04):
and a pitch is a pitch out, a curveball pitch out.
That's something you don't see often. White faced as if
to throw. And I think that the catcher mcnurtney was
crossed up. He wanted a fastball, and Carlos threw the
ball in the right spot, but it was a breaking pitch.
You're gonna pitch out. That's not the one you want.
(17:28):
Joe mcnurtney had a very quick conference with Carlos, and
Carlos not his as though he knew what he'd done.
He'd rectify all the situations. All right, White moving off
first with a big lead. There he goes, What a jump,
throwing a second not at time, almost standing up. Why White,
(17:52):
I don't think he had to slide? What a jump
he had on Cisco Carlos for food. That's number nine White,
two balls and no strike. The Peppertone now the acting
time a runner at score acquisition. Carlos a deliberate worker,
(18:25):
very deliberate, taking his time. He's got to sign. The
two have pitched to Pepe. He hit hard and right
here I call a hooking Powell. Well, Joe Peppertone got
the good wood on one, but he pulled it. Francisco
(18:46):
Carlos acquired from Indianapolis as the White Sox farm team
in nineteen sixty seven. Last year with a sock he
was two and oh learned her an average of zero
point eighty six. Carlos hasn't earned run average this year
(19:07):
of two point one eight. That the entire White Sox
pitching staff, their entire earned run average is two point
twenty six. That's the entire staff. All right, two balls
and a strike on Peppertone was White at second base,
two outs. Now Carlos has taken so much time. The
(19:29):
Peppertone steps out of the batter's box. Carlos ready, Now
that's the pitch. And Peppee hit hard the right payel
and and I say that ball, there's a home run? Good?
What end of the lower peace? I don't believe that
(19:51):
player the best playoff foot. Well, just as in the
(20:12):
first ballgame the Yankees came up with two runs in
the first inning, it with Tommy Tresh who hit the
home run in the first game. And now Joe Pepperton
hit a low line drive and it may be the
shortest home run ever hit in this park. Was right
down the line and didn't clear the fence by a foot.
(20:33):
Hit two ninety six down the line and right. But
that ball was well hit. We thought it was going
to be a double, but it just didn't clear that fence.
All right, here's Andy Costco its outside ball was Costco
betting at two eighty three six home runs twenty three
RBIs or peppotone a second homer of the year in
(20:55):
RBI six and seven. You get a chance, and I
was talking, that's the shot. I could just about how
high that ball was. Costco tacks went outside two and zero.
I don't think that Peppertone didn't hit the ball that
was really tomahawk, but it was low, and it was
(21:15):
head right in that corner, and the view was somewhat obstructed.
But when I went out of here, it must have
just cleared that sence. Here's a two oz pitch hung
on I missed by Costco two and one in that sense,
I don't believe it's over thirty inches high, two balls
(21:42):
and one strike some guy behind me, What a cheap shot.
Here's a two one pitch just sitting there two and
two tomorrow, though that'll look like a five hundred footer.
Of course, there are many balls that here in Yankee
Stadium by both teams that would be home runs and
(22:04):
aren't because of the big dimensions in center field. They've
got the overshift on Costco. The two to two pitch
curve ball is outside three and two, three balls, two strikes.
Andy Costco. Andy in that first ball game, had one
base hit and four at bats and drove in a
(22:25):
run Fousey to the left of second after he showed
deep in the hole Ward guarding the line a third
and playing back playoff pitched by Carlos Costco. What a
bullet right past Ward down the line and left Andy
a big sweep and the signs the hold on is
(22:46):
Brassford really made a fine play on the ball. Buddy
Bratsford was over there. He's got some arms. So Hollie,
wait for Jay Gibbs to step in there at New
York Yankee Base bawly pause for station identification. Why this
is Jeury you see join me for my telephone talk
show week nights here at eight teen and Neus Aisles
(23:07):
w g y S connected. All right, Jake Kibb moving
in there. You haven't flight case the virus didn't see
him to bother him. Yesterday though he went three for
four and drove in the winning run. I'st go it
(23:30):
first two outs and Jake takes low ball one. La
Rodriguez thought the first game Gibbs did not play. Gibbs
has it safely in eight of his last nine games,
going thirteen four thirty three. A three ninety three Flippers
raises average from one sixty nine to two thirty six.
(23:51):
There's the ground boss past first base there down the line,
and a ground rule double isn't folk. As a fan
touched it, there was a good chance that Costco might
have scored. So when a fan deflected the ball, it's
up to the Empire, the judgment ball by the Empire
as to whether or not the runner would have scored,
(24:14):
and the Empire at second base, Bill Kenneman said, Moser,
so Costco has to hold a third. Gibbs is on
at second base with a double. That's the fourth base
hit in this inning. The Yankees are threatening again and
Bobby Cox is coming on. The Yankees have already scored
twice on the home run by Pepatone Bobby Cox in
(24:36):
that first ball game one for three, a big home
run is first home run of his major league career.
That was in the second in thing. I put the
Yankees down the front at that time three to nothing. Well,
(25:00):
then a busy asm is running high air as Bobby
Cox steps up. Gibbs a second Costco third. She's go
Carlos into the wind up. Fox takes a strike, started
a swing and held up. Bobby Cox moving that average
(25:22):
up right now, hitting at two twelve, he was way
down there. Here's the one strike pitch and he almost
went down. That ball was well over his head. You
get the feeling when they nailed Roy White at that
first ball game, and that was in the let me
see it's in the seventh inning, and now this one.
(25:45):
That's the White Sox pitchers are trying to upset the
Yankee batters by his throwing at them a little. Here's
a current that's blowing outside. Two and one, two balls
and one strike, two outs, two runs are in, Yankees
leading two to nothing, bottom of the first. They won
the first ball game five to one behind Mels Dottlemayer,
(26:05):
Costco a third, gives it second. Bobby Cock a real competitor,
swinging that bat as he waited. Carlos is into the
wine up. The two wine delivery curve ball is in there.
Two and two. Bobby Cocks three doubles, one home run
(26:25):
and nine RBIs twenty one hits in ninety nine at bats,
so he is coming to the plate for his one
hundred official act bat right now the defense place talks
about straight away, although through most of the early season
and up to right now, he's about a full hitter.
(26:50):
Carlos getting a sign from a nerd. Nay, he's got it.
He steps on the rubber, gets the sign again. Here's
the tid two pitch the Cocks on the way, curves outside,
three into a full count. Gene Michael is on deck.
(27:17):
Three balls, two strikes, two outs, two men on. Gives it, second,
costco it third. Carlos long look at his catcher getting
the sign. Here it comes on the way to Bobby
Cock a ball four and they're loaded up. Eddy Stanky
(27:37):
has not made a move from the White Sox dugout
as yet. That's the first walk giving up by Carlos,
and now here comes Thanky. There has been no action
that we can see in the White Socks bullpen as
(27:58):
of this moment. Well, I think the Stanky is probably
going out there just to doc to him, try to
settle him down. The young right hander having a rugget
first inning, the bases are loaded, two runs are in.
The anties have four base hits, two outs, and the
(28:19):
batter will be Gene Michael. Well, it looks as though
they bullpen it's going to be taking advantage of We
didn't see anybody warming up. They must have been warming
up on the left side all through this first inning,
(28:41):
because we could see no action out there. But somebody
is suddenly coming in to pitch the jeene Michael Don McMahon,
if that's the right handrley pitcher is coming in, So
let's go. Carlos failed to survive the first inning officially
two thirds of an inning, as we mentioned, gave up
(29:03):
four hits, walked one, didn't strike out a batter, and
thus far has given up two runs. Cosco at third,
gives at second, and Cox at first should they score,
will be charged to Carlos. So while we're waiting, let's
look at the scoreboard. Big Don McMahon, veteran right hand
(29:26):
relief fitcher, gets the boss Metti sanky and on the scoreboard.
In the American League, Baltimore six, the Senators won. That's
in the sixth inning, Baltimore pressing Detroit. There are only
two behind Tigers leading the league, Boston leading Minnesota for
to nothing in the sixth. Minnesota has been somewhat of
(29:49):
a disappointment in the early going. People expected more of them.
It's the Red Sox four that twins nothing in the
sixth Cleveland at California, Detroit at Open So they haven't
started yet. There on the West Coast in the National League,
the Braves lead the Mets won to nothing in the third,
(30:10):
Philadelphia and the Cardinals all tied up at three apiece
in the fifth, Cincinnati leading Pittsburgh three to two in
the fifth, Cup, shutting out the Giants fourth to nothing
in the seventh, and the Dodgers, with Don Drysdale shooting
for his fourth consecutive shutout, leading the Houston Astros one
to nothing in the fourth inning. Well, there's always something
(30:44):
that makes you laugh a little bit. And I had
a big sign hanging off the facade of the upper deck.
There got Bill Rizulo and Eddie Stanky and a big
heart with an arrow through it, sort of a Valentine
a little bit late, but nevertheless, somebody would a good
set the humorous got it up there. I don't see
(31:10):
how we get through this broadcast without at least saying
a Lord to an old buddy here. Joe Garishoel who's
on the Today Show, the Tonight Show and all the
other shows. Joe nice to see you. Jerry's ready afternoon
here at Yankee Stadium. I'll tell you sump is hitting
runs the storm and I'm just happy to be here.
You gotta come out more often. I'll tell you, you know,
we have looked this good in the month of Sundays.
We're really red hot. I will be coming out more often.
(31:34):
Joe Garshoal of course, you see him all the time
on IT Today and the Tonight Show. And one of
our old buddies was with us for three years here
as a Yankee broadcaster.
Speaker 3 (31:47):
Here.
Speaker 1 (31:49):
Well, that foul by Geen Michael came back and almost
hit me in the head. And it's sad. The Alphut's
gonna go. He's gotta go in the other direction. Drake
one to Jean Michael with a bases loaded, two outs.
John McMahon is coming in and he's ready for the
second one. Here it is on the ground good. He
(32:10):
knock down by Carsey, but he can't throw anybody out.
It comes get digging for the plane and he makes
it GIF score it all away from second phase. Two
runs came in and the Yankees lead Ford to nothing.
(32:31):
Let me reach half that one for you costco third
give the second and Michael hit a ground ball that
Pusey doped for and knock down but couldn't throw. Gibbs
just kept coming all the way around. Carsey came up
firing to the plate. Mcnurtney got the ball, runs for Gibbs,
(32:52):
but Gibbs got in under the tag and the Yankees
lead Foard to nothing, and that's good for two RBIs
and then steal singles two r the Eyes runners at
first and third. The Yankees leaves four nothing bottom of
the first, and now Bill Mambo cats the ninth batner
in the inning. Both those runs charged to Carlos Mambo
(33:17):
taking low at fall one. You almost got Beam by
a foul tip up there. I'm gonna get a helmet
(33:39):
them such man starting to pitch that stepped off the rubber.
Michael at first, cocks at third. Four runs in first inning,
Mambo slices went into the upper deck fowl one and one. Well,
(34:01):
the Yankees have really come to light here in this
Chicago series. Red hot ball club, this is a big game.
They'd like to take.
Speaker 4 (34:18):
In.
Speaker 1 (34:18):
A fine crowd on hand for the action. There's a
pitch to Mambo on the corner, a curve that got
it one ball too, strikes. When Geen Michael hit that
foul ball up here, I went one way and Sandy
went the other, and that was in the same direction
and was getting on. Sandy Opera are a wonderful legendeer
(34:41):
and I almost knocked each other out trying to get
out of the way. All right, Mambo cat now waiting patiently.
Don McMahon, a besting right hander, checking Cox at third
and then Michael. Look first, there's the pitch, just missus
outside two and two sign on the board. Today's official
(35:06):
scorer Joe Trimble, New York News. Frank Howard just hit
a three run home run for the Senators in the
top of the seventh inning. And that's number nineteen fifteen
for this month. He's only got three to go to
ty Rudy York, and he'll be here Tuesday night. Oh
(35:26):
is he hot? Mambo dribbles one foul off to the right,
two balls and two strikes. Frank Howard hit another one
nineteen on the ear. We've got fifteen for the month
of May. Rudy York holds the record of eighteen set
in nineteen thirty seven. Senators are here Tuesday night and
(35:49):
a double eder on Memorial Day on Thursday, big Hondo,
what a year, fantastic. All right, Don McMahon waiting now
steps off. He's looking for a double steal, is what
he's looking for. He gets on the river and then
just steps right off and looked at both tops to
(36:11):
third and Michael at first. Don McMahon sets deliveries and
almost hit mar Le Catt. He's all over the place.
That's three at two oh three balls, two strikes, two
out and Michael at first phase will be running this
(36:31):
time the runner at third, Bobby Cock belong Francisco Carlos.
Should he swore? Here's the playoff it There goes Michael.
Ball has files off the right side. Then I'll get
into the seat. Somebody reached for a ball, missed the
(36:55):
ball and lost his hat and down and went all
the way from the upper to Bi'll never get that back.
Yanks for White Sox, and I think bottom of the
first second game. The Yankees won the first one five
to one behind Sottolemeyer. All right, McMahon, there goes Michael.
(37:17):
The payoff pitch again is all four in the face
that they're loaded. So the Yankees continue here face is loaded.
Mom both get it first, Michael at second, Cox at third,
(37:41):
and now La Park was started at all in the
first inning or the first batter in this inning. We're
still in the first sinning. Is coming on or his
second at bat? Oh, baby, I'll tell you the worm
has turned. Or the Yankees today. The bird pitched the
(38:04):
Clark in the curve in the Derek ball one, John
McMahon taking his wind up. Now Cox the third, Michael
(38:25):
at second, Bombo at Furst. Still in the first inning, Yank,
he had batted around and Clark had come up for
the second.
Speaker 4 (38:31):
At back.
Speaker 1 (38:34):
The man the Clark wings and this is one and one.
Or is going after a fastball on the letters one
ball and one strike. McMahon again here it is in
(38:57):
tine almost in a while. Pitch's doing one. Oh, the
white sock bullpen is in full force out there now
Bark waiting McMahon getting the sign from mcnertney. Here's the
(39:18):
big right handed pitching. Or gets one at ten Afield
coming on is Bury a drop. Two more runs are
coming in and the Yankees lead six to nothing. Night
fall drop nice front of ten Burry, not more than
four feet down to second base is Mambo pet at
(39:40):
first is Horace Clark. Two RPIs for Horace and the
Yankees are out six nothing. One of the runs charged
to Carlos and ever compleeps the book on him for five,
and the other one goes to McMahon. This guy's our
(40:07):
biggest single inning of the year. Six runs, and now
Roy White is coming up for his second at sick
Marbo at second mark at first still two down, six
runs across McMahon deliverers and White takes that rest. Right.
(40:29):
Roy singles the left hail that scored the first Yankee
run head of Joe Peppizos, four runs, the eleventh Yankee
to come to the plate in the inning. Yankees won
the first of five to one out in front of
this one on the ground, file down the first by
side right two to Roy White. Then the busiest inning
(41:02):
in a long time for Frank Pressenti at third day.
He's gonna waving them in. Jake Gibbs, what a play
he made on the innfield hits by Gene Mike Lea
scored all the way from second right. White is waiting
McMahon getting a sign. Here's the pitch hit highe outside
one ball, two strikes, you talk about what a difference
(41:28):
a year can they on the board. The Yankees were
six and twelve against Chicago last year, five and two
this season. If they win this, one mill up max
their entire record of last year. And it's only May.
Here's one two pitch shit in the air, white center field, Boston,
(41:49):
Barry converging, and Barry makes the play. Oh, finally, the
Yankees ranted. The sixth runs on six days head no
white Stock, there two men left, and the score after
one full running of play the Yankee six and the
(42:11):
White Stock's nothing. Keep chuck on off. There's fun and
excitement along the way, as well as when you get there.
When you fill up with Atlantic Imperial Gasoline and follow
(42:33):
the Imperial Road, forget about how your car will run.
Atlantic Imperial Gasoline helps keep it running the way it
was made to run. Wherever you go, your drive will
come alive when you take the Imperial Road. Pack more
fun in your trip and get on the Imperial Road
(42:53):
with Atlantic Imperial Gasoline. Keeps Chaco. Bill man Bouquet got
(43:22):
a big lead, sixth and nothing. We're only in the
second inning. It'll be Ken Barry, Wayne Causing and Bill
Boss Oh Those are the kind of leads to a
pitcher loves to work with. And now the lights have
gone on here at Jackie Stadium. It's a little overcast,
(43:43):
but a very flushing afternoon. If we at leant again,
Serial Gopali, sure call Bill my boatcat got a big lead.
(44:25):
Sixth and n nothing. We're rolling in the second inning.
It'll be Ken Barry Wayne causing him Bill boss. Oh,
those are the kind of leads that pitcher loves to
work with. And now the lights have gone on here
at Yankee Stadium. A little overcast, but a very pleasant afternoon.
(44:58):
Ken Barry moving in. I think Bill Mambo cat who
leaves in the ball game six and nothing, top of
the second, first pitch to Burry curves outside ball one.
First ball game Barry was two for four. Let off
(45:18):
of that game. There's a batball on the corner, one
and one to Ken Barry, the Yankee six white socks
nothing Mambo to Berry. Lighter misses the corner, two balls,
(45:40):
one strike, Mambo again. Here's the two to one pitch
on the ground. The mantle hit on the end of
the bat. He's got it touch his first one away.
All was h right on the end of the bat.
(46:01):
It was spinning, sort of a squib as they call it.
Mickey got it one down. Now here's Wayne Causey Pausey
came on as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning
and line the short HiT's just what sharply and the
right field for a base hit. That's the first hit
(46:23):
off Marboquette line tingle between Mantel and Clark. One out
Causey his first. Here's Bill Voss the right field there,
who was having a little trouble getting the base hits
in this series. To goal for four in that first
(46:43):
ball game, Ir Mambo touched to pitch. The boss said,
hit the tenor field straight away. Pepetahon moving back, drifting
back makes the play two downs. All was well hit.
But for the biggest part of this park Jerry mcnurtney
(47:09):
the catcher stepping in. Mcnurtney batting a two fifty nine
no extra basis and four RBI's Blossie was betting one
fifteen lost at one twenty five and Ken Barry at
two forty two. Those were the three hitters thus far
(47:30):
in the Senate A one half are fact of Bill
Marvel Ket and McCartney is out of there. No one's
a base hit, nor is one left down the store
after an inning and a half. It's the Yankee sixth
and the White Dogs nothing here. She is the ladybird
(47:53):
of the cigar world, the white out Girl. M they'll
maybe whiteout man here.
Speaker 2 (47:59):
See that future nerves.
Speaker 1 (48:00):
A piano wire. He's Mike choice to win the big Game.
Speaker 5 (48:04):
He smokes White Owl Rangers. Guitar slim one pitch it image.
Speaker 1 (48:08):
See they sharks. That guy in the bleachers, the.
Speaker 5 (48:10):
One with the bato of them sweatshers blowing the bugle.
Speaker 1 (48:13):
Yeah, what if he smoked a white Oul Ranger.
Speaker 5 (48:16):
Well, at least he was got blowing the bugle. Remember
the day you quit playing baseball?
Speaker 1 (48:22):
Yeah, I remember the manager was so happy he handed
out white all New York as everybody.
Speaker 5 (48:26):
Naturally, it's the big cigar for the big mope.
Speaker 1 (48:30):
Big Boman.
Speaker 4 (48:30):
Huh.
Speaker 1 (48:32):
Say last year a twenty game pitcher, I know ran
out of white Owl invincibles. The cigar that makes you
feel that way?
Speaker 2 (48:37):
How awes?
Speaker 1 (48:39):
How was the day he got knocked out in the
first inning? Could it be there?
Speaker 2 (48:42):
A right jo?
Speaker 5 (48:44):
You know, you get a lot more from the White
House than jock.
Speaker 1 (48:48):
Smoke All third to go here and now coming on
bore the thankues then the second other thing make me
matter a little flied all up from the person Don
McMahon who came on as a release picture for Cisco
Carlos into them Yankees with a command name Sift and
(49:14):
nothing leaves well on the board. Frank Howard hit nineteenth
home run Senators there Tuesday at eight o'clock. Thursday, the
double Nter Memorial Day, first game at one. Alright, man,
all waiting, fastball is in tide ball? What Mantle deep
(49:42):
in the batter's box, Swinging from the left side. McMahon delivers.
It's low two and zero three. If you want to
see the big guy, Frank Howard. He's got fifteen home
runs this month, three to go to Tyrue, New York
and two the ty Willie made. He's got the national
league record. He'll be here Tuesday night and a doubleheader
(50:04):
on Thursday. Here's the two O Pitchimickey hitting the center
fee a ie in the air, not too deep. Everybody converging.
Barry on the run, he got it, and right next
to him, Apprichio, Boss and Cosey all out there together,
everyone converging on that high pop in the short centers.
(50:24):
The man was out of there. We have one away
and now here's Pepeton hit that line drive home run
to start the scoring. In the first Peppee drove in
two runs, Michael drove in a pair, and Horace Park
drove in two. All right, Pepaton, take the fastball inside
ball one, Joe Pepaton waiting. McMahon the bestman relief, ready
(50:58):
to deliver. His curve is low two and zero. Say
one thing about Eddie Stankey. When he does thinks, he
does them in extremes. Just about every hitter, with the
extension of a few, there's been an over ship, mostly
on the left hand batters. Pepotone Mantel trash when he's
up there Costco from the right side. Three and zero
(51:20):
out of pepotone, Pepie waiting. Now three balls, no strikes,
one out. Bottom of the second, mcmon delivers and it's
ball four. He lost them on four pitches. That's the
(51:46):
second walk of it up by McMahon. He came on
for a Cisco Carlos. Carlos hit only two thirds of
an inning, gave a four hits and with charts with
five runs, McMahon gave up two hits in one round
thus far. And now here's Andy Costco, who singled and
scored a run in the first John McMahon Paul heavy
(52:17):
right hander waiting as Peppie moves off first to pitch two.
Costco's a stripe right in there. Andy Costo stepping out
of the battery box, getting a little dirt on his hands,
and he released by the Detroit Tigers in the minor
legs with a switch of it, then went back to
(52:39):
batting only one way. Acquired by the Yankees in the draft.
There's a drive base and Andy Cosco, Yes, he's rolling
right along. He looks like the best hitter, says Joe
Amar Joe. Everything he swings that is a line drive.
He's two for two in this game. Pep it down
(53:01):
down the second and holds on. Well, it's the Dodgers too,
and the Astros nothing and Drysdale shooting for that fourth
straight shutout, has retired the Houston Astros through the first
five innings without a score, So it could be that
uh Don Drysdale could get that fourth and even more,
(53:26):
Jake gives doubled in the first score a run runners
is versus the second and fists by McMahon is the
curve that's in there to jake back one stepping at
second base, cost goes first, won away. Don McMahon waiting,
(53:54):
getting the sign, he comes set checks the runners. The
pitch popped up behind a plate. McNerney Henrich makes it
two downs now. Bobby Cock, who walked and scored a
running the first inning, a step again. Yankees with six
big runs on six sixth in the first inning. I'm
(54:15):
thinking a commanding lead. Now we're in the bottom of
a second. Bobby Cox stands right on top of the plate.
He's an aggressive ball player, very sincere. He was here
at ten o'clock this morning in uniform. Cox takes it
(54:40):
outside ball one. Any time you get here that early,
but it isn't because you don't have anything else to do.
It because you're conscientious. You wanna get here, be ready
to prepare yourself, not only mentally, but physically as well.
Here's the one I'll pitch and Cock lights is one
upper deck, right side, one ball, one strike, two outs,
(55:19):
one ball, one strike. Bobby Carr runners at first and second.
Mc man a deliberate worker. He is thinking a lot
of time. Carlos was the same way here's a pitch.
Hi pop, George there and appreciate of cutting in front
of Ward and he says I'll take it, and he does.
So Cox is out of there as out of the Yankees,
(55:39):
no runs, one base it, no errors, two men left
and the score after two innings of play, the Yankees
leave the White dox picks to nothing.
Speaker 6 (55:49):
M I know, some beats down hard.
Speaker 7 (56:02):
You've got to go up ice your insides with something special,
a chilling Valentine creep.
Speaker 6 (56:09):
It's a very special glass of beer.
Speaker 1 (56:13):
Make a ring and.
Speaker 4 (56:18):
Ring and then you bout three rings Valentine.
Speaker 1 (56:22):
And now it breed me up.
Speaker 4 (56:24):
Its a bear.
Speaker 1 (56:25):
Respect your GLASSO.
Speaker 7 (56:26):
Be Valentine breeding premium ingredients, gremium broom for crisp.
Speaker 6 (56:33):
Like premium play, something you just don't get from just
any bear.
Speaker 4 (56:40):
Silent time.
Speaker 1 (56:42):
And now it breed me up with a bear'special placco beer.
Gary Peters is coming on at a pitch Center, but
(57:02):
before he does, it's New York Yankee Baseball at FAWS
for a station identifications. Join me, Bill evertson weekday morning
seven to ten here on WGY ten on your dials.
Get it in the third inning, Gary Peters batting for
(57:24):
Don McMahon, and the first ball is hit high in
the air down the right field. Sy Clark is moving
and final Territory makes the play. Nice play by Horace Clark.
He had a long run after that ball. Gary Peters
started the ball game the first one and then was
knocked out, and in that game he batted sixth. All right,
(57:44):
here is Buddy Bradford who bounced the shorten the first inning.
Yankees won the first one five to one. They lead
in this one in the top of the third sixth
to nothing. Mambo to Bradford just outside ball one. Well,
(58:09):
the Senators fighting back down in Baltimore. Bradford takes a
strength bring up the date and all the action at
the end of the third inning. In both the American
and the National this is the only doubleheader being played
in Easy League. Bradford hit the dripper down third and
(58:31):
in a roll and it does it goes foul. Good thing.
They did no chance to get Bradford. He can run.
Buddy Bradford one of those guys that if you show
him a little daylight, he'll beat it out. Bradford came
(59:01):
into the game betting an oh point or point oh
ninety seven. Alright, Bill Mamboquet shooting for a fifth win
into the wind up. Here's the one to pick sine
arm careball. He got him as kids hung on to it.
It was a foul tip, but Jake held on. That's
(59:23):
the first strikeout the Mambo cat. He just flipped a slow,
easy seign arm careball up there and a kind of
startled Bratford and he's out of there. Louis Aprey Show
(59:44):
takes ball one. Aprey Show safe on an error by
Jean Michael in the first inning. It was a tough
error because the ball was hit hard and it was
a tough chance. Here's the one oh pitch on the
corner for strike one. One ball one strike Mombo an
(01:00:07):
apprishall to the sharkstap again, Michael, that's one of a
big copy puts the NATO and very easily. The sign
is retired three. I've been three down on the score
after two and a half, Yankee six and the White
socks nothing. If you're like most people, the chances are
you've been on trips to some very exciting places, but
you could be overlooking some exciting places right under your
(01:00:29):
own nose. There are plenty of them in the Great Northeast,
and it's easy to include several in a short one
or two day trip with the help of Atlantics free
weekend or tour guides. There are more than maps. They're
actually completely little travel brochures for this particular area. Each
one has several fascinating tours all planned out for you
with suggestions on what to look for, descriptions of the
(01:00:50):
places you'll see, bits of history, everything to make your
trip more interesting and meaningful. This weekend, do something different.
Treat the family to an extra vacation by going on
an Atlantic weekend under tour. Stop by your favorite Atlantic

You'll be sure to enjoy your trip because you'll be
traveling the Imperial Road where the going's always great. Well,
Bob Pretty has come on to do the pitching for
(01:01:31):
the White Sox. Pretty was in the first ball game
and he'll be pitching to Jean Michael, Bill marm Bouquette
and Horace Park. What was that young man over on
(01:01:52):
the television side. Do you want me to ask if
you can have it? I don't think I can get
over there in time to get back and do the
play by play. Why don't you go over and ask him?
Those are the kind of things we put up with
here at Yankee Stadium, A little conversation on the side
while we're trying to do the games. Sixth and nothing,
(01:02:16):
Yankees lead. Here's Geen Michael. Yankees won the first one,
five to one. All right, the first pitch by Prettiest
right in there, strike one a Jeen Michael. The Yankee
(01:02:38):
ticket preserved at all Branches Chemical Bank, New York Trust Company.
That's one of the places where you can get the seat.
Here's the one strike delivery to Michael, almost at them
as they skipped the little rope. One ball and one strike.
(01:02:58):
Geen Michael had the field single, has scored two runs
in the first inning, gets coming all the way around
to second base, Ward way in a third as he plays.
There's a pastball at Tiants. Two balls in one strike.
Pete Ward, the third baseman for the White Sox, plays
(01:03:19):
almost every left hand hitter about fifteen feet in toward
the plate and near the line. It's third. Here's a
two one delivery. There's one hit on the fist in
the right center, short right center, going back to the
second base.
Speaker 3 (01:03:33):
But he got I want to play by way clausey
and I want to tell you you don't never see
any better. And that was a spectacular diving over the
head catch the rob g Michael of I look like
a sure base hit.
Speaker 1 (01:03:48):
Oh maybe what I play by QUAUSEI gem causey sensational.
Oh there's one away. Here's Mambo cat Yankees leading six nothing,
last of the third. Mambo hits one one hop back
(01:04:13):
to the pitcher, Pretty who flipped over to them across
two outs. Mambo didn't even run, and he knew he
was out, and rather than used up the energy, he
just pealed off and went back to the dugout. Boris
Clark knew I was coming on. Clarke was up twice
(01:04:33):
in the first inning, bounced the pitcher in his first
at bat leading off the game for the Yankees, and
then a single to drive in two runs the center field.
That was in a second at bat Clark one for
two were in the third, Pretty delivers and the curb
missus outside ball one Bob Pretty was with the Senators.
(01:05:12):
Pretty delivers a big slow, look like a pomd ball
from here Forrest Clark's with shitter batting from the left side.
Pretty delivers and fastball missus outside three and three balls,
(01:05:34):
no strikes, with two out, nobody on the Yankees leading
six to nothing. All right, pretty ready to pitch to Clark?
Is in there. The lights have been turned on here
at Yankee Stadium, A little overcast, but still a very warm,
pleasant afternoon. Two hundred tons. It pitched to Clark on
(01:06:05):
the ground file whitey Ford has this one. He had
fires it back to Bob Pritty. Bob pretty Oldmetown, San Mateo, California,
born in nineteen thirty nine, twenty eighth to twenty nine
and December. Clark k hopper to the second basement. Cozney,
(01:06:26):
who's up with it on the big hop over to McCrow.
The side is retired three up and three down, and
the score after three full innings of play Yankee six,
White Sox nothing. And now I'll look at the scoreboard.
Baltimore eighth, the Senators seven. They're playing the ninth inning.
(01:06:47):
Valentine and Frank Howard with his nineteenth homer for the
Senators etcha baron it won for Baltimore. Boston four, Minnesota two,
with Minnesota batting in the bottom of the eighth. Housand
had a three run shot in the fourth Ken Harrolds
and going very well for the Red Sox Cleveland two,
California nothing after an inning and a half against Pattens
Marty Patten Detroit at Oakland, Pharma against Dopson, no score
(01:07:11):
in that one. In the National League Raise two the
Mets one, with the Braves batting bottom of the fourth,
Fiver against Necro Philadelphia sixth the Cardinals three. They're playing
in the eighth inning. Allen had a three run shot
in the first in Philadelphia prime and against Washburn Cincinnati seven,
the Pirates two and the sixth. Clemente had a two
(01:07:33):
run shot in the sixth inning for Pittsburgh. So now
it's a seven to four ball game as it stands
right as this moment. Cup four Giants two, they're playing
in the ninth. Hunt had one for San Francisco. Banks
had a pair for the Cup and the Dodgers too.
The Astro is nothing, Houston batting bottom of the six.
(01:07:53):
Drysdoh going for a fourth shutout against Jerker Joe Gary
Jolop taking his leave. Now here's a ground ball by
Pete Warred de Mantel. Who's up with that flip to
Mambo Keet went away. Oh, one pitch and one out
here at the top of the fourth inning, so they
(01:08:16):
going three to one. Mambo has given up only one hit,
struck out one batter, hasn't walked anybody, and it's sitting
on a big Batch six to nothing lead right now
on the top of the fourth inning. As Tommy McCraw,
the cleanup batter, comes on. First pitch to McCraw is
(01:08:44):
outside ball one. Oh, look like we've got some fans
back here in the background sharing the Yankees on. Here's
the one. Oh pitch the McCraw on the ground, man
l's this one's big happen. He'll make this unassisted two down.
(01:09:07):
Ken Barry is stepping in now. Barry bounced the mantle
in the second and he's all for one. Alright. Mambo
to Berry on the ground of the second basement park
(01:09:29):
and the white socks going after that first pitch made
a very easy inning for Bill Mambo Caete free up
and free down a score after three and a half
Yankee sixth stand the Chicago White dot and nothing.
Speaker 6 (01:09:48):
Question how can I tell if I have cancer? Answer?
Speaker 1 (01:09:52):
You might suspect cancer, but only a physition with the
help of laboratory tests could tell for sure. Question does
the danger signal always mean cancer? Answer No, most often
it does not. But don't take chances. See your doctor immediately.
Speaker 8 (01:10:10):
Questions about cancer. Knowing the correct answers could help you
save your life. The American Cancer Society urges you to
help protect yourself by knowing the life saving cancer facts.
You can read these facts in a free booklet, which
contains a list of the seven danger signals. It also
(01:10:30):
tells you why yearly health checkups are important. Be sure
to get your copy, write or telephone your American Cancer Society.
Speaker 1 (01:10:53):
Why why is stepping in? Why? In the first inning,
dingled and Ford ran the first time they was up
in an end of the ending of the fly ball
at the center field. He was the eleventh Yankee to
go to the plate. As the Yankees got all of
their runs in the first inning, they lead six nothing
(01:11:16):
Roy White. They sink Bob pretty pretty. The right hander
waiting White is ready now. The first pitch on the
way swung on a mission with the curveball strike one.
(01:11:37):
Roy White choking up a little bit more from the
left side than he has been. Roy waiting pretty with
the sign into the wine up. Here's the one strike pitch.
He swings and miss the strike two. There's a fastball.
He just fired it right in there. White swung through it.
(01:11:59):
Mickey man long and of course that will get an
ovation as the mick comes on. That's all right, Bob Pretty.
The two strike delivery, a strike three called and it
was a foul tip caught by the catcher. The ball
(01:12:19):
was high, but it just did Kip White fat and
played on fire. Hanks star ball did strike three on
the pile tift that was caught by mcmickney. First strikeout
for Pretty. And here comes Mickey Madtle that put the
first strikeout by a Yankee in this ball game. Yeah,
(01:12:47):
Mickey Mantle with the over shift on. Waiting takes high
and out signed ball one. For the Tuesday night game
against the Senators, it'll be bouncing to the Yankees and
(01:13:07):
fust well or the Washington Senators man of swings and
missus true basketball one and one. On Thursday in the
Double Edder Memorial Day, they'll be Talbot for the Yankees,
Ortega for the Senators in the first game. The second game,
no Yankee pitcher has been named yet, and Joe Coleman
(01:13:29):
will pitch for Washington. All right, pretty to Mickey, he
takes a curve in their strike two final score of
the Cup beats the Giants four to two. Here's the
(01:13:53):
one two pitch to Mickey, swings and missus strike three,
so pretty striking out White and metal as retired the
first two batters here in the fourth inning. Now here's
Joe Pepperton, a homeward walk, drove in a pair of
runs and quarter runs. Two outs. Nobody on the over
(01:14:29):
shift days on a big palmd ball at tied to Peppe, Aprico,
Corsey and mccraud of the right of second base, Pete
Ward all by his lonesome between second and third. Alright,
bout Petty the right hand already here it is on
the way. Peppe throws one to ride and could be
another one and there go one. In afternoons with George
(01:15:11):
Pepperton his second home runs third of the year and
rb I number eight. Well, here's Andy Costco's two for two.
Yankeees now leading seven to nothing. In the bottom of
the fourth. Pretty at Costco hit five day, so let's
(01:15:36):
end it. Feel away back there by Ken Barry with
plenty of rooms, right, but at Costco has got to
be thinking right now that that's part of the Bob
Barker's not the place to hit it. That's twice HEAs
it went a way out there. All the Yankees one
run on, one hit, the home run by peppertone, nobody left,
and the score after four it's the Yankee seven runs,
(01:15:58):
eight hits. The White Dog well run down, one head off.
Atlantic keep Utlantic keeps the.
Speaker 4 (01:16:21):
Much you can see.
Speaker 1 (01:16:26):
You there's more to drive it than simply getting there.
When your car runs the way it was made or right,
Atlantic Imperial Gasoline helps her do just that. Along the
Imperial Road. Atlantic keep shut car. Whenever you hit the road,
(01:16:47):
make it the Imperial Road. Every road you travel becomes
the Imperial Road with Atlantic Imperial Gasoline attic kept in
the fifth and afore the White Doctor will be Causey
Boss and mcnertney facing Mam Bauquette Bill and the Yankees
(01:17:11):
leading seven to nothing, they bitch to Causey is inside
ball one, Wayne Causey singled sharply to right field in
the second inning. Mambaukett, boy, he is really wallowing and
all kinds of good fortune. Seven big runs out there,
(01:17:32):
one and one. The Yankees have come with a rush.
As far as the hitting is concerned, they've been scoring
runs of late. With that pitching has changed the entire
complexion of the ball club. There's a drant right field
hooking just fouled. I was long enough, it was fair.
I would have been a home run. Wayne Causey, good
(01:18:06):
all around utility ball player waiting as Mambo cat delivers.
There's a curve outside. Two balls, two strikes. The two
to two pits now by mambo on the ground man
(01:18:28):
all back has a nice play, whipped the mambo in time.
There was a fine play by Mickey Well. There's a
final score. I just came in. Baltimore beat the Senators
eight to seven. Washington had thirteen hits and Baltimore has
(01:18:49):
only five, and yet they beat them eight to seven.
Might have been some errors and based on balls in there,
Boston and Minnesota are tied up. Killerbridge just at all run.
There's a bunch. The first man has it on the
first top, races to the bag and bosses out of there.
(01:19:10):
It was a line drive fund as Mickey scooped it
up and raced to the bag and Bill bosses down.
So there are two up and two downs. Let's see one, two, three, four, five, six, seven,
eight nineteen. That's ten in a row that marm Bouet
has retired. All right, is Jerry mcnurtney on the ground
(01:19:40):
of the shortstop. Michael, who's up with it, flips over
the mandl and the sin is retired. Three up and
three down, and the score after four and a half
Yankee seven White Sox effect. Here's baseball's favorite feathery fans,
the white Out girl.
Speaker 5 (01:19:56):
Thank you you're at every ball game. How much would
he love the wall players? Well, I prefer the ones
you smoke. White House like him over there in the
bullpen warming.
Speaker 1 (01:20:06):
Up, good Man, say ab over a dozen games last year.
Speaker 2 (01:20:09):
He can play on light tears anytime. He knows how
to take life.
Speaker 5 (01:20:13):
Big prefers to satisfying White Out of New Yorker, the
big cigar for the big moments.
Speaker 2 (01:20:20):
But he smokes him even when he does.
Speaker 5 (01:20:21):
Him with There's more to life than baseball. Job White

Field a white out does that for man? Take the tall,
slim white out ranger.
Speaker 1 (01:20:34):
I do just greg the right shape, the right taste,
or the.
Speaker 5 (01:20:38):
Mellow white owl invincible the cigar that makes you feel
that way.
Speaker 1 (01:20:43):
Huh? It just does you know?
Speaker 5 (01:20:45):
You get a lot more from a white.
Speaker 4 (01:20:47):
House than taller white eye.
Speaker 1 (01:20:57):
Very all set to go now, and I got a
old group of people behind you, Frank and the anxious
to get all the information right. Here's Frank Messer, okay,
Jerry Coleman, and you're gonna leave your rooting section with me.
Arian all right. Jay Gibbs will lead off as we
go to the bottom half of the pith and a
betting against Bob Pretty, the very pitcher used by manager
Ready Stag in the second game. Yankee has won the
(01:21:19):
opening five to one, leading in this one seven and nothing.
Speaker 4 (01:21:23):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (01:21:27):
Jene Gibbs doubled in the first inning. Then he filed
out to the catcher Jerry mcdutney, Bobby Cotts on deck,
and then Jeane Michael Pretty into the move. Here's the pitch.
The Gibbs creve is over but low of all one
(01:21:49):
leveland and California under Williams caught up at the end
of one inning out on the West coast. Here has
swung and well it's all over in Baltimore. The Orioles
defeat the Senators eight to seven. Is that right, Bill Kings,
don't check.
Speaker 9 (01:22:08):
Me on this.
Speaker 1 (01:22:08):
Eight runs on only five hits for Baltimore, and there
were no Washington airs. There must have been a bush
old basket full of walks in that ball game. A
ball of the strike the Gibs pretty fives curve balls
hit back up the middle of the apisso backs off
to his left fields it goes the first time and
gets him in a mighty close play. Jake was digging
(01:22:29):
hard trying to beat it out one away, and Bonney
Cox was in Cox drill walk in the first inning
came in a score of run number five for the Yanks.
Then in the second and thing he popped up to
the short side of Abrazio. How about that? Baltimore eight runs,
five hits one hour, Senators seven runs, thirteen hits a
no hour. Only two of those eight runs crossed on
(01:22:53):
a homer bytch about first click of Cocks flowing away
ball once and Frank guard. It is named Jan Pong
Run of the Year. Well, he'll be bringing that big
Carlow to bat in the Yankee Stadium Fuesday nights. When
(01:23:14):
off fletched the bodycott get on the ground is showing
a breach. The Hollys up with it makes it draw around.
It is in time go down about an hour. Will
be Jeane Michael. This is New York Yankee Baseball. Let's
pause for a station and identification. Why this is Jerry
you see join me for my telephones up show weeknights.
(01:23:36):
Here at eight ten of you dial w G y schenect.
Here is Jeane Michael. One for two. Michael got it
in two rhymes with an nfield head. At the first inning,
Jay kids racing all the way home from the second base.
It's got an infield single. Period is over at low
(01:23:57):
of all. Well, I'll be trys. Just received some very
discidening information. Al Calon, who was hit five pitch last
night as the next ray today and found to have
a fractured right fore arm fastball is fouled and the
seats on the third day side Cayline a fractured right
(01:24:17):
forearm as a result of being hit five pitch last
night and is out indefinitely for Detroit and our thanks
Tomave Albert wh will be on with a scoreboy following
this game for passing that information on long choice. So
for the second year in a row, the Tigers lose,
Klis go to a fracture one wander Michael change off
(01:24:39):
is popped out behind the plate. Mcnerty is there as
pleases the fall. As the side has retired, the Yankees
are three up, three down, and now at the end
of five fulltings, the score is New York seven and
Chicago nothing. Once you get used to traveling on the
Imperial Road, you'll never want to make a d tour.
That's the road that starts set your neighborhood Atlantic Station.
(01:25:02):
When you drive in for your first tank full of
Atlantic Imperial, see clean carburetor gasoline that helps keep your
car running the way it was made to run. When
you use Atlantic Imperial, you're on the road to smooth
engine performance because with every carefree mile you drive, Imperial
is working to dissolve troublesome dirt deposits around the carburetor
(01:25:24):
frontle plate. If you enjoy driving, see if you don't
enjoy it more with Atlantic Imperial. Next time you fill
your tank, drive into an Atlantic Station and drive out
on the Imperial Road to smooth engine performance.
Speaker 4 (01:25:46):
Sat.
Speaker 1 (01:25:58):
Well, let's say the White Sox coming up with the
pitch hitter. As we go to the sixth inning. The
pitcher is due up, but we'll see Dick Buddy Booker
catcher by trade coming on. Uh do bat for by
pretty already Fundy Booker up down hitter, Little bonds look
(01:26:29):
at as retired eleven man in a row since the
single right feel by Wayne Groby in the second and
that is the only White Sox hit of this game.
First pitch Booker hits a hopper back through the box,
but Michael to his left comes upward. It's not on
brought to Mickey and get one pitching one down the
(01:26:58):
White Socks. I've hit only two balls out of the
infield in this game. The single by Wayne Carby in
the second had a fly ball to center field which
was caught by a pappadon off the bat of Bill
Voss also in the second s and now Buddy Bradford
playing left field, swings on the first tech line to
base and in the center jump Pappa dog skips it
(01:27:20):
up throws it at the second base. So after retiring
twelve in a row, one book. Next time you fill
your tank, drive into an Atlantic station and drive out
on the Imperial Road to smooth engine performance. Well, let's
(01:27:54):
see the White Sox are coming up with a pitch
utter as we go to the sixth setting. The pitcher
is due up, but we'll see Dick Buddy Booker catcher
by trade coming on uh to bat for by pretty
(01:28:17):
pretty bunny Booker in up down hit her Okay, Little
barn look get has retired eleven nine in a row.
That's the single the right deal by Wayne Garby in
the second, and that is the only white sock kit
of this game. First pitch Booker HiT's a hopper back
(01:28:41):
to the box, but Michael to his rep comes up
with it's not on Tilter.
Speaker 4 (01:28:44):
Mickey and Tye.
Speaker 1 (01:28:50):
On one pitching one down a white sock have hit
only two balls out of the infield in this game.
A single by Wayne Gardy in the second had a
flyball to center field which was cropped by Pepper jog
off the battle pill box also in the second, and
now Buddy Bradbury slang left Bill swings on the first
(01:29:12):
back line the base center the center joke Peppa Dog
strips it up throws it at the second day. So
after retiring Grove in a row Bob book, God gives
up a base at the Bradburds and we'll pitch down
to Louis Naparipo. Yeah, he's leading doven nothing. Apperipo reached
(01:29:40):
up an error by Michael in the first inning and
then grounded out to the short stop. He looks at
a strike over at the the ed waters on deck.
Bonbo's best kicks and buyers kerball is that on the
grounded shot Michael has flips the clock for a w
back to first count of dry I breeve y'all beat
(01:30:03):
to draw the first base Radberd is out at second
Michael is what twill outs and pep Ward's about it.
(01:30:25):
Ward is grounded out twice to mattle his first base.
Harras Quat shaken up just a bit by Buddy Bradsbury
going in hard at second base, and mars is flexing
his right leg a little uncomfortable around the Eve longer
(01:30:45):
got to the track. Look should I preach out here?
The pitch Ward is a foul ball on the first
base side back when the Senators come in Tuesday night,
Dan Bonston will pitch for the Yankees against Camillo Pasqual.
(01:31:07):
Wednesday is an up day and now uh Harris Clark,
he is in uh trouble out there and he's walking
to the sidelines matter Gerald Park has gone out and
so his printer Joe sorrys Buddy Bradford going into Clark
at second base a moment ago to break up the
double play, and Clark will leave this game and Dick
Houser comes on to play second. Clark injured in the
(01:31:29):
area of the right knee Linday noticeably. Now he comes
off the field, so Dick Howser goes into play second.
Dick will be given a moment or two to loosen
off as he throws uh with Mickey Mantle. So Clark
is out of the game and Dick Howser takes over
(01:31:50):
at second we short of study on Wednesday is an
up day but the Yankees and the Senators. But then
they'll play two on Thursday, Memorial Days, starting at one
o'clock here at the City and Brett Jelban is scheduled
to start one game with the Yankees. The other Yankee
pitcher has not yet the name. And for the Senators
down there, the Bill Lord Sega and Joe Polman number
(01:32:17):
of one strike Sete Ward one book get starts to strike.
Jack Szaparicio's first, and here's the pitch, Louie Goes pitch
is outside for a ball, start striking ninety time. Apricil
field second and Colaparizio is the eleventh sorlan vase of
the year. Checks out, making his eighth Stolan base of

any number six, Bob all heal back to the base

(01:36:11):
the one two pitch long but now of even two balls,
two's right final score from Minnesota. The Twins scored two
runs on the bottom half of the Knight to beat
the Red Sox five to four. Allen Worthington the winter
Jacky Lyle Blizziers two two pitches coming down to McGraw.
(01:36:34):
Here it is fine ball in the streets on the
white side. Washington took a four to three lead into
the bottom half of the ninth Any Harman Killerborough Homework
with nobody on to tie the ball game four to four.
Then the Twins got another run in the bottom half
of the Knight. It went it's five to four. Just
(01:37:02):
do the McGraw there go deep bright field lies that
the a home ride for McGraw. I believe they are
reason the story were they step drama. There's a boy
coming down the line and out John McGraw ing to
go around very fast to the home run druck. It's
four home out of the year. I mean it's now
(01:37:24):
he's seven to play ball games. Draws well and well
into the sweeping light and the gos goes but one
step back and then just stop there and want to
go all the Yankees' leaders now seven to three and

knocks down Berry again this stract bitch inside the barrier.
(01:38:57):
The count of the ball and two strike activity is
going in the Yankee board bet very possibly Julie Womack,
although we can't see it. It's not Hamilton once did

(01:41:38):
You know weekends can turn into the busiest time of
the week. That's the time you shop and do necessary
household chores. But let's face it, weekend should be a
time for the whole family to be together, a time

He gave us five runs on four singles in the walk.
John McMahon pitched an innie in the third, gave up
one run on three hitch and walked to Bob Pretty
(01:55:48):
worked three and he gave up only one run homer
by Supperton.
Speaker 6 (01:55:51):
That was the only hit off of him.
Speaker 1 (01:55:53):
He struck out to him. Jack Fitcher worked one in
the gave up one hit and hit about it. And
now o white Well health coming into this game in
this afternoon, Willhelm is making his thirteenth appearance of the year.
(01:56:15):
He has a record of one win and no longer
and he has been credited with one say that's sixteen
and two thirty things and I'll only one earned ron
for an earned run average of zero point fifty three,
walk six, struck out nine, and has allowed eight basis
(01:56:37):
John oh uh white Well Health. He is the oldest
active player in the American League and probably in the
major leagues. He was born in Huntersville, North Carolina, July
twenty sixth, nineteen and twenty three on his next birthday,
he will be forty five years of age. George Pepperdon
(01:57:08):
lays off against him. Pep MacDonald has had two home
runs in this ball game. In between the three a walk,
he had a two run homer in the first inning,
a so long homer in the fourth, his second and
third of the year. Right an over ship against Pebbadon.
They have two right fielders bosson Berry and two second
basemen Abrasio and Caausei is both up well over on
(01:57:31):
the first base side. One all alone on the left side.
Nobody at all in left field as left field at
Bradford is well over. Droug left center. Willhelm with the
knuckle ball. This is low outside ball one Wellhelm draws
(01:57:56):
Peppy box's wine fair the first base Bine mccraz who
gloves in our pie steps on the bag and cop
of dollars retired.
Speaker 4 (01:58:06):
Bring nat cakes and back.
Speaker 1 (01:58:08):
Balls one out no one and Andy Costco those and
Andy has had two hits in free trips. Where's my
sight to pass green cape bag and the older ship
(01:58:31):
goes the other way. Now against Costco the knuckleball, I'm
under his chin ball up there's one Well hits the
left rack goes and I feel the bread bread up
the seats and he makes the cat right in front
(01:58:51):
of the seat that left the UH. And again Costco
has wanted. That is the third time that sad. You
know that he has come. So blog heading online Jeller
two head more to left center longer drive this time
they drive a bullet right down the line and it
is caught by Bradford. Go away and Jake Gibb steps
(01:59:14):
in against Wilhelm. Ball On is low to give this
for real.
Speaker 4 (01:59:30):
Now there's is.
Speaker 1 (01:59:32):
Why let's say eight hundred at seventy eight appearance of
his career in the Major League, and gives a hip
fine up a ball down on the right eyeball, gives
hip fine pitch and goes down the first phase. The
(01:59:55):
all time UH record or game pitch longs to presenter
sy UH the record of nine hundred and six games,
which has stood since nineteen hundred eleven. Well, Elm has
a chance about thinking and he is now and he
is seven hundred and UH A rent is eight hundred
and seventy eight games. He needs twenty nine more affearances.
(02:00:23):
My mathematics are correct. The set of the records. Bonnie
Cox moves in and get to gives his first back
drow over the first gives his back well elms Fi

track over the inside corner. The ball's one strike two
cock Secou Gift pictures inside the throw of the second
base gives it same a second knock the ball inside
(02:01:08):
the cock Bucker's draw down to his part. He got
down one hot and Gift slides in with a stolen base,
and that boyd Jake gives his fifth stolen base of
the year.
Speaker 4 (02:01:23):
Cleat the year.
Speaker 1 (02:01:29):
An all the message board banks up my mathematics, saying
will help needs twenty eight appearances to equal side Young's record.
We said he needed twenty nine to start a healing,
so I guess that's all right. One one of the
cocks stops fall off the left side. The yunser with
a glove leaned over the railing and stripped it up
a ball and distraight for Cox. Jean michael Is on
(02:02:03):
deck gives a second. Two hours will Al draws swinging
in a midspike. Cox strike Grave, but the Yankee is
no runs no here, Yeah, but no hours uh hip
fighter and a man left down And at the end
of seven bullet the scorer is new York seven in
Chicago three. Well, let's see, now we'll go to the
(02:02:27):
eighth and ang at the top of the order coming
on for the White Stocks. That means Bradford I reached
the Ellen Ward against right hander Bill mon Booked at
one boy his night start of the year, hopeful of
picking up his fifth win, He's lost three. Leading seven
to three. The Yankees won the first game five to
one behind stopper Fire White Socks, finally scoring after going
(02:02:51):
without a run for thirty nine consecutive minute. Bradford is
one but three in this game. It's the curveball fall
off the the Bay side. We should know in a
(02:03:20):
moment or two when the Drysdale got his fourth consecutive job,
he was leading eight to nothing over Houston in the night.
What strike betch Radbrick falls in a dish strike to
and to why Knight the actually moves over the Jay stadium? Well,
the annual Mayor's Trophy game between the Yankee Is and
(02:03:42):

Was the Yankee vett at Ali Roud Riggins in time
for the day's double letter, and he talked very capably
in the first game. Two two touch the Bracper druck

(02:04:50):
a man bootcat one away. Here the dome of the
eighth of Neui Opera is the vier right Uh. Now
Brice Feil is off for three in this game. He
has reached twice, once in an air, once in a
fielder's choice, and he scored one run. He also has
a stolen base. One get dollars that Breezel pushes the
(02:05:11):
pot right back toward the mound. Moonbo has what's the

it brings up third basement b boards Well once grounded

the bay. That catcall waits boy divinds off the wall
and uh spectator out there touches the ball at wars

shots in the second base where the ground rules double.
The spectator lost the ball well costco effected out threw
it in to Geen Michael who stood there a tag
water as he came in, but the sign had already
been given and the ball was dead. One dutch by
the spectator and Pep Boy has his first hit of
the afternoon in this ball game or double the right
(02:06:23):
you know it is uh Ward's first hit of the afternoon.
He did not have one of the first games. So
Ward is a board mcraw the butter homer. It his

Chicago three.
Speaker 9 (02:07:01):
Red dog free, Red dog free.
Speaker 4 (02:07:03):
This is a rent dog leader.
Speaker 6 (02:07:04):
Want your wing position tight, not diamond.
Speaker 12 (02:07:07):
You're inside a Marine Corps jet five miles above the earth,
moving faster than the speed of sound. Eight feet away
from your wing tip streaks another marine jet. Your command
move in closer.
Speaker 4 (02:07:19):
Ego means let's see uh.
Speaker 12 (02:07:28):
Tight formation plan may seem a miracle of precision to many,
but to a marine aviator it is everyday work. He
has received the finest flight training on earth. He has
been trained as a leader of men. What were his
qualifications when he started? He was a college man, determined
to lead, not to follow. If you are the same
kind of college man, become a marine aviator.
Speaker 4 (02:07:53):
Of die furry.
Speaker 1 (02:08:07):
Well, we'll get Bill Keane to help us keep an
eye out the action done in Houston, because the Astros
are batting in the bottom half of the ninth inning,
the Dodgers now leading five to nothing, and Drysdale, going
for his fourth straight shutout, needs to retire the Houston
club in the bottom half of the night. So as
soon as we get a word on that one, we'll
pass along to you. Jeane. Michael will lead off the
(02:08:30):
bottom half of the eighth innings for the Yankees. Willhelm's
first pitch outside. We don't have to tell you every
pitch because all willhelthed frows is the knuckleball. We'll wind
up by the ancient one, and he flew inside two
(02:08:51):

or tide and the season of the National a four
by several pitchers, the last being Sal Magley in nineteen fifty.
Speaker 4 (02:09:11):
Two.
Speaker 1 (02:09:12):
Nothing bitcher to Michaels swinging in a miss two balls
to one strike, Addymars and Pittsburgh Mordecai Brown. That was
three finger Brown as uh Roulbach, Rover Cleveland, Alexander Bill
leaves Chicago and sal Magley brown ball into the second
basement causey is up with it, flips over to mcraw
(02:09:33):
and that's all for Michael. Those of the butchers in
the National League who share the record of four consecutive
shut out games the Major League record held by Doc
White of a Chicago White Stock five consecutive UH game
September twelfth to thirtieth, nineteen oh four. Here is my

(02:10:52):
There's a ball to the count's two and one. Now
the mungbokut here is man's loot cat. They'll walk his

rock fall first place side a crawl, raises points but
(02:11:13):
cannot get it. It's about three rugs and the rock
beats fast. The dug out. The number is one straight
to bock balls. You know you sit here and watch
a fella like quite well help coming up on his
forty fifth birthday. They'll act if it's still winning as
(02:11:35):
a major league. He misses outside and a booker has
to battle that.
Speaker 6 (02:11:40):
Uncle ball.
Speaker 1 (02:11:53):
There's a ball to him. The count's two and one
now along the cuntain round ball hit to the left
side of the short stip A Bresil makes a good
play on it, throws the first base, didn't die and
get a long book gut two outs here on the
(02:12:16):
bottom half of the eighth, and Dick Howser steps in.
Hawser was hit by bets his first time up. He
replaced Clarts, but Harris was injured at a play at
(02:12:36):
second base. Buddy Bradford bowled him over a hard bringing
up a double play, and Cross suffered a bruis knee.
Hawser takes the first ptch right across what Carl's tray.
He swings and lesters strike to Yankees waiting seven or three,
(02:13:06):
trying to sweep the double enter around the series well

(02:14:09):
That's the Yankees down in order and at the end

a White Sox three and on the Gold going with
Atlantic Imperial Gasoline and drive the Imperial Road. I believe
your car on the Gold. I'm on the ki shut

how your car will perform along the way. Atlantic Imperial
(02:14:53):
Gasoline helps take care of that. Wherever you go on
the Imperial Road, you're always on the Imperial Road with
Atlantic Imperial Gatholeene Drab of the night inning, Verry Cosey
(02:15:22):
and Boss coming up for the White Sox against Brombook Cuts.
We're talking about John Dresdell. That game is not over
as yet. The record for most consecutive scoreless innings pitched
by a National League pitcher forty six and a third
by Carl Rubble up the Giants in nineteen thirty three.
Here's Arry one for three, swinging and missing's track wise.
(02:15:44):
When Drysdale started his shut out strings, he had pitched
one shutout any so he had twenty eight going into
the day's game. Now has thirty six oh one pitch

the cozy a ball outside down the one of Butcher
Kaze round ball first base side bowls. Get past that

their last seven, trying to make it seven out of eight.
One one the cauze file ball again on the first

Speaker 6 (02:17:24):
The game.
Speaker 4 (02:17:24):
The final.
Speaker 1 (02:17:28):
Score from amunt of the Braves to beat the Mets
to the one. The game finally called because of Braves
sixth inning ball game bomb the cat to the wine
one two pitch cause the lines up the right field
made this Mantle made uh leap for it ball sticks
down there in the corner. Costco has to dig it
(02:17:48):
out and causey and then at second base again down
there in the corner. It appears that somebody reached out
and interfered with the baseball. Saw ground roll sumble but
cause Hee hit second hit of the afternout. They sit
number six small the White Sox had with runaway Cousy
(02:18:10):
at second the left hand hitting Bill Boss. That's it,
Bob ball, let's crack over the right shoulder. I have
to pitch the Boss over, but low ball on the youngster.
(02:18:34):
Bill Boss did not start the season with the White Sox.
Looks like he could become a pretty good hitter. Has
a nice queen swing lea close together waiting for mom.
Book gets pitch here it comes round ball first right side,
bowl speared by coach Kirby Barrel. Barrel flips the ball
(02:18:57):
over Amester Shylock. Shylock to Mickey Mapple battles back to
the Bob. A lot of handling down there. Barrels the Shyla,
the mantles the mombotet. Bob gives second one hour one one.
(02:19:18):
Pitched the Boss our ball first date side and he
sort of adolf the that was shifts it right off
his feet. One boss who striking, Uh just a shade
(02:19:38):
under twenty four thousand paid this afternoon to see the doubleheader.
Then those in the ground where Yankee fan's very happy.
Right now, the Yankees won the first game five to
one lead this one some of the three one good
guy gives has had a vigorous shape. Looks away the
perspiration check second hicks and deals outside just as the
(02:20:03):

schedule batteries out of sight. Here's the two two bitch
(02:20:25):
wine drive and it is droll Houser out into shallow
right center field, dards the racist or third and it's

short hop and it skipped the buy him and out
on his right center Here comes Ralph House. Johnny Davis
(02:20:52):
is moving out towards the play house, swinging the wavey
sat and Ralphouse was skipped the ball. Bread going for
the last couple of minutes is out at the bound.
Now figure Igno mon buqutt is too tired. He will
bring in a fresh pitcher. And that's what he's gonna do.
How we'll go to the bull Beet here in the night.
Don Monluquette goes eight and one third in eight he
(02:21:18):
has allowed seven basis walked only one, and he has
struck out three given up to this stage of the game,
three runs, the two base runners aboard, and his responsibility
and it's all over in Houston. Don Drysdale has pitched
his fourth straight shutout, the Dodgers shutting out the Houston Astros,
(02:21:40):
great and nothing. And Don Drysdale has tied the National
League record for a consecutive shutout games. Betch conceive it
his fourth straight shutout. Julie Walback is being coming now
from the Yankee bull Beet. So Walmat welcome on the
(02:22:01):
pitch to Tommy Davis with runners at first, and Peris
d Ducat gets the hand as.
Speaker 4 (02:22:14):
He lay.
Speaker 1 (02:22:21):
Jolly Womant as a record of no wins and three losses.
He was rather shaky earlier the year, then hegan settling
down and it's pitched well his last few times out.
(02:22:42):
Womanc has been in only one winning game, and that
was a game he saved for Prince Peterson against the
Oakland out on the West Coast. He gained a save
of that one for striking out sal Vandor with the
basis loaded. The Yankees won the ball game to the
(02:23:02):
w What Walnatt, as we said, is last several appearances
have been much better for him. While Walmack warms up
on New York Yankee Baseball, let's pause for station identification. Hi,
this is Jerry Duc. Join me for my telescopes talk
(02:23:24):
show weeknights here at eight ten and U dial wgy
scannect me Julie Womack. In twelve games this year, has
pitched only seventeen and two thirds innings. The last seventeen
HiT's walk five, struck out nine, and he has has
(02:23:45):
worked that out for now. The Yankees leading seven or
three at the White Sox with something going here in
the ninth inning, one out, runners at first and third,
and the battery is Tommy Davis. Davis played left field
in the first game today, well down in favor of
Buddy Bradford here in the nightcap, but he used as
a pitcherer. Weems first pitch basketball is inside ball one
(02:24:22):
one old bitch. David swings guy looks a line drive
on in the center veer for a day. Sip. Wayne
Jarsey races bomb from third to nine, seven to four.
Boss goes the second base. Holes down there, salt baysip
number eight, and they'll send a runner down the first base.
(02:24:43):
Sandy Alamar will go in the run for Tommy Davis.
Sandy Alabar running for Tommy Davis at first place. Bosses
at second. One out, and here's the catcher, Dick Buddy Booker,
(02:25:07):
left hand hitter. Booker is up for his third time.
Then's replacing mcnirtney in the game. Takes a pitch outside
from all my ball one. It is now seven to four.
Buddy Bradford, who was due to hit next, has been
fall back to the dugout by. Not that you're stanky,
(02:25:28):
but just for a conference. Well Mac cept and draws
strag over the outside corner. It's one and one hour
to the left hand hitting Booker duan run away. Well,
(02:25:50):
my acceptant draws. There's a pole ball into the seats
on the third day side. The Yankees at a seven
to nothing lead going to the sixth inning, Don mccrafe
hit a three round homer. The White Socks have scored
here in the top of the night and Buddy Booker
(02:26:12):
represents the tying run in this ball game, standing there
at the plate. One's a pitch low outside, two balls
and two strikes. The Yankees scored six of their seven
(02:26:34):
runs in the first inning against Cisco Carlos and Don McMahon.
Bomax ducked the move the pitch way outside. All comp
thay and do now to Buddy Hooker and the Yankee
(02:26:58):
fans getting a bit nervous. Buddy Brant Britt is on deck.
Walmac leans down looking to gifts for the sign starting
to move three two pitch ball four, He walked in
the tyg runners on Walmack down low with a pitch.
(02:27:22):
The Booker walks, Bash goes to third Alamar the second
the tig run is on and somebody racing in brown
before Fine, there I am the become a runner. Looks
(02:27:44):
like Joe Harder. That's the bill Joe Horman. I believe
it is coming in to run for Booker. At first
dase so walland runs poor Booker. The faces allot it.
Ralph Balk again at the mound, and again he is
(02:28:04):
waved to the bullpen. Well. Julie Wilmack came on, gave
up a bassist to Tommy Davis, Walt Booker, and again
(02:28:25):
the bullpen is being summoned, and this time it is
John Watt. Well, John Watt had the unfortunate in his value.
(02:28:45):
You are Yankee debut against the Baltimore Orioles Wednesday night
to give up a game winning then sheet home run
to Don Gibbard of the Orioles. Uh, he is coming
on now with the days. Is voted one out here
in the gob of the nineteen eighty and why will
(02:29:06):
receive its uh ext reaction from the brown collink into
the game Wednesday night. Wyatt had not worked in a week,
and now he is out there on the mound with
manager ROBH. Park and got your Jay Gibbs, and he
will try to cool down the White Shocks Bunny Bredford.
(02:29:29):
Redford is one for four in this game. The Yankees
play the Mets at Shade of My Nights for the
benefit of the Mayor's San Lot May's Ball Program Read
of New York's Van Lot Mase Ball Program the annual
Mayor's Trophy Game. Then on Tuesday night, it's back there
(02:29:49):
to the Yankee City and to they't the Washington Senators
Dan Bunsen will pitch for the Yankees Tuesday against Camental Bustball.
Wednesday is an open date on the schedule, and then
Thursday afternoon, Memorial Day, there will be a double hutter
starting at one o'clock. Before Bradford steps in, he wants
played on Frier Hanks Store to take a look at
the baseball. Why only took a couple of warm up girls,
(02:30:12):
says he's ready, He's been working out in the Bullpence
Stor examines the ball, says it's all right. And now
Bradford steps in with the bases loaded. Balls a third
alomar second foreman at first. There's the wind up and
here's the first pitch to Bradford. Ride on a doll.
(02:30:47):
Why ready to work again? Arms high the bag, taking
the pitch, check swaying or spike two very outside fire
brat frid a little bit upset seven to four, the
Yankees leading the White Socks. Have the bases loaded. Here
on the top of the ninth with one out, docks
(02:31:09):
the third back off fairly deep near the line. Mike
Hall at Geordan Hauser at second and double played that
Mantle backs off the first hold two bitch foul back
on the a eight. The cob holes that no balls
to strike wide with an E baseball steps off the
(02:31:36):
mound area of the rubbed us now climbs the hill
and looks down, takes a little dirt away from the
pitching rubber. He steps on the rubber with his right foot,
hands the side rocks back on the left one. Here's
the bitch wive ball out of the right field. Cost
doll backing off near the warning track makes the guy
(02:31:58):
one ron score as Boss comes home after the catch.
Valimar also dagged up at second.
Speaker 9 (02:32:06):
And went to third.
Speaker 1 (02:32:07):
Harland stayed at first base. It is a seventh to
five ball game and the battery is Aparicio. Runners at
first and third and now two outs. Radberry gets a
run letted in on the sacrifice line, gives that a
(02:32:34):
little inning with what and now was two outs. The
mainner is Luis Zaparicio. Puricio is all before he has
reached twice on a aaron A Peter Start swings for
the first pitch and there's the drive in the center field.
Is gonna drop for dight there. Balibari comes in the
store and it is now seven two six fall on
(02:32:58):
once the second day, well Don with a base knock
on what's again? Ralph Hawkins on his winding the mile,
Steve Ward the batter, and how may one appler now
come out in Vetch Pete Woyd. They run scored by
(02:33:22):
Alamar is charged to Dooley Walmart who put him on
one who gets record is complete eight in a thurny
five runs Dominus, one walk Preece record and again Halkin
is going to the bull pan, and this time it
will be the left danner Steve Hamilton being called dot
to picture to the left hand batting Pete Boy. The
(02:33:45):
White Sox have the time run now at second base
in Joe Hunnan. They're go ahead run at first base
in Louis Laparizio. Now Hamilton gets to ride in by
(02:34:08):
that works at third a minute he gives up one
basis Jean Hamilton, and for Hamilton it will be his
(02:34:31):
uh ninth aderance. He has no records won and lost.
He has saved one game and an earned run average
of three point twenty two. Cleveland leading California four to one.
Now seventh. Oh but uh I has jumped down Detroit
(02:34:54):
for a six, stopping lead. If he had four. We
told you earlier in Minnesota shaded Bock from five to four,
and Washington was edged by Baltimore the Oreol's eighth per
cent of the seventh even though Frank Howard did hit
his nineteenth on the runt of the year in that
ball game, Raves over the match to the watt Philly's
over to Cot those nine to three comes beat the
(02:35:17):
Giants quarter two. Drysdale got his fourth straight shut out five.
So I think the Dodgers over Houston. Pittsburgh is sixty
ninety fired eight to eight at the end of seven
at its raining now in Cincinnati, Steve Ward steps in
against Steve Hamilton with Joe Vannon at second Louis Fabery
Fiord first time requested out in center field by peppersaal
(02:35:41):
as he replaced himself. He was shaded way over toward
the alley. Now on orders from the dugout, he moved
far towards center field and backs off. Hamilton sixed Award
outside baul Wie. Ward has one hit in three trips.
It was a double to the right field corner. He
