Speaker 1 (00:07):
Welcome to Exposed Baseball. Good evening everyone. This is Russ
Taylor with Dave Van Horn speaking to you from Forbestfield
in Pittsburgh and about to bring you the play by
play broadcast of the final game of a nineteen sixty
nine season between the Exposed and the Pirates. And here
(00:27):
in Pittsburgh this afternoon, the rain really came down quite heavily. However,
this ballgame will get underway. There was no batting practice
previous to tonight's game. The ground screw is still putting
the final touches to the infield and the ballgame will
be starting as scheduled in about fifteen minutes from now.
All the Montreal ex Balls in their final game of
(00:48):
the nineteen sixty nine season. Right hander Jerry Robertson will
start on the hill. All the Pittsburgh Pirates another right
hander Bob Moose. And the last time Bob Moose took
to the pitching mound, he pitched a no hit, no
run game against the Eastern Division champion New York Mats.
So this will be Moose's first appearance since pitching that
(01:11):
no hitter against the Mats. We have a very interesting broadcast,
I'm sure for all our x POE listeners along the
mind because this is the final broadcast of the nineteen
sixty nine season. Throughout it, Dave and I of course
will be reviewing some of the highlights, some of the
big moments of the nineteen sixty nine season. But no,
right now, Dave has a gentleman with him, well known
(01:33):
to Montrealers, who has every reason to look back in
nineteen sixty nine and smile and also to look ahead. Dave. Okay, Rush,
thank you very much. Add good evening once again, everybody,
glad to have you board for this game, the final
game of the nineteen sixty nine season. And the gentleman
sitting between us myself is the general manager of the
Montreal Xpos, Jim Fanning. Will be talking to Jim a
(01:55):
little bit later on right now. Last night, if you
were with it, you'll recall we were talking to the
players about their plans for the winner and their off
season activities and where they're heading, and we talked about
half the players, and tonight we talked to the other half.
So in just one minute you'll hear from the Montreal
Exposed players and then we'll talk with Jim Fenny say fans.
(02:17):
Even though the Montreal x Balls will be playing their
final game to night here in Pittsburgh, it's business as
usual for the rest of the year for the Montreal
Exposed Box Ovens, because a lot of fans, of course,
have already started to send in their orders for season
tickets for the nineteen seventy season, and good news from
the x Balls. The ticket prices will remain exactly the
(02:40):
same as in the nineteen sixty nine seasons, which means
a box seat will cost three hundred and fifty dollars,
which means also that you'll save thirty five dollars by
buying a box seat. Reserve seats remain the same two
hundred and fifty dollars. You'll make a saving of nineteen
dollars and fifty cents by buying a reserve seat. So,
as we said, ticket reservations, reserve seat reservations, season ticket reservations,
(03:05):
we should say, are now being taken by the montreallex
Balls right to the Montreal ex Balls ten ten Saint
Catharine Street West in Montreal.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
This is Whatcher Gary was lewis Ki. Hi, Dave Gary,
what are your plans after the season.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
Well, I'm going back to Boston and I have a
job back there with an investment firm, and I'm gonna
work there.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
Gary's is something that you were preparing for the investment
field when your baseball career is over.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
Something that's right, Dave. I figured I better start now. Well,
I've still got some time left in baseball, and that
take me a while build up a clientele. But that's
why I'm doing it now.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
Okay, Gary, Good luckily see in the springtime.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
Thank you very much.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Let's catch a.
Speaker 4 (03:49):
John Barcabella, Dave, if I'm gonna go down to a
winter ball in an instructional league in Florida for about two
or three weeks and see if I can get my
batting stroke and a little bit of confidence back, and
then I'm gonna go back to cal California and sell
life insurance for Metropolitan Life and look forward to spring
training next year.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
Child.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
Have you been in the life insurance business story of
the season very long?
Speaker 1 (04:09):
No?
Speaker 3 (04:09):
I haven't.
Speaker 4 (04:10):
I was approached during the season this year by a
representative in the Bay Area in San Francisco, and he
wanted me to sell form. So I'm gonna give it
a try and see how it works out.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
So to be able to work and stay at home
at the same.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
Time, right, I hope. So I'll make some money.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
Okay, John, good luck. We'll see in the spring.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
Thank you very much.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
Dave I expose right Field or Rusty Stop Rusty How
about you? When the season's over? What's in What are
your plans?
Speaker 1 (04:31):
Well, Davey, I.
Speaker 5 (04:32):
Have a few things planned.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
You know.
Speaker 5 (04:34):
I've kind of formed the corporation in Canada and called
Rusty Start Corporation, and we kind of use it in
a kind of a corporate way with some big companies.
A few things have come out, wigh, and I'm going
to be, you know, doing some work for the companies
that the corporation is involved with. I will also probably
be involved with the Stagecoach restaurant. We you know, have
(04:55):
to talk about a lot of things naturally, but that
seems to be the thing that's going right now. But
a lot of things have been coming along lately.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
Uh, And I I guess.
Speaker 5 (05:02):
I'll just have to see how the winner is gonna progress.
I'm pretty open everything. I'm not tied in deeply to
any particular thing right now. Accept the corporation and uh,
except for that and a little traveling down the uston
to visit my home and the people down there, and
uh into the walls to.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
Visit my family.
Speaker 6 (05:17):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (05:17):
I'll probably be uh, you know, just bounce around Montreal
see what's going.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
On, and I know, uh around all that business, and
then travel back and forth. There's gonna be some hard work. Uh.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
You've told me that you plan uh somewhat of a
program to stay in shape over the winter.
Speaker 5 (05:31):
Oh, definitely, Davie. Uh, We're gonna the the clubhouse has
got uh quite a nice set up for the players
that are gonna be there, and Uh, I'll be working
probably four or five days a week. Uh, I take
a couple hours a day to make sure that by
the time spring training comes along, I'm in pretty good shape.
I think if you reach a level of physical fitness
like we do during the season and you waste it
(05:52):
over the four or five months or off during one time,
it's just really stupid. So I try to maintain uh
a real good tone to everything during the off Seasiness
is what I'm you know, definitely gonna be doing again
this year.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
Okay, Rusty, good luck During the winter. We'll see in
the spring, and obviously we'll see you many times during
the winter. That's a deal in fielder, Kevin Collins. Kevin, Uh,
with the season over, now, where do you head and
what are your plans for the winter? Well?
Speaker 1 (06:15):
Uh, right now, the wife and I are gonna go
over to Ireland.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
Uh October eighth for about three weeks and uh coming
back around the first.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
November, and I'm going down the winter ball.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
Kevin Collins heading for Ireland? Is that first trip for you?
Speaker 1 (06:26):
keV? Yeah, first one?
Speaker 2 (06:28):
You both have uh relatives over there. Yeah, I have
relatives in Ireland and my wife has relatives in England.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
And then it's winter ball after that. Right well, Kevin,
good luck during the winter. We'll see in the springtime.
Thank you very much, Dave, Just Pitcher, Bill Stole Then Bill, Uh,
how about you?
Speaker 2 (06:43):
What are your plans for the winner? Now that the
season's over.
Speaker 7 (06:45):
I'll be going to the Instructional League for about a
month down in Florida, and uh coming back to Montreal
and uh really don't have any job lined up yet,
but I hope uh in a week or so I'll
have something lined up in Montreal.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
Bill, any particular field that you'd like to pursue in
the off season.
Speaker 7 (06:59):
Well, uh, really, I would kind of like to get
into the investment field, but if something else passed up,
why I'll probably take it.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
Okay, Bill, We'll be seeing you many times if year
during the winter, so good luck. We'll see in the springtime.
Thanks very much, Dave, I'll just put your claude. I'm
on Claude. Would season over? Now, what are your plans?
Speaker 8 (07:16):
Well, first, I'm gonna go on a hunting and fishing
trip because i want to take a little vacation of
this season. And then in the water, I'm supposed to
talk to mister John McHale and mister Fanning, and most
likely I will work for the ball club. I don't
know in which capacity. And also there's a couple of
companies that have approached me, so I don't really know
right now, but most.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
Likely I'll be working for the ball club.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
I claud, what kind of a.
Speaker 2 (07:40):
Winter time program do you pursue to keep yourself in
shape and to be ready for spring.
Speaker 8 (07:46):
Well, I'm gonna do some exercises. Ever they set ups,
and I'm gonna jump the rope and I'm gonna watch
my weight because I got a little tendency to gain
a couple of pounds in the winter, but I I
think if I don't gain those two times, I'll be
that much better off in spring training. I just have
to stay away from desserts and bread and butter, so
(08:08):
I'll be all right.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
Close has like a fun but busy winner for you,
So good luck. I'm sure that we'll be seeing a
lot of each other in Montreal during the winter. We'll
wish you the best of luck and look forward to
seeing you back in the uniform again next spring.
Speaker 8 (08:20):
Okay, thank you very much to be able to see
you in the banquet circuit.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
Well, between last night and tonight we managed to talk
with all of the exposed about their plans for this
coming winner. And I'll continue this pregame show in just
one minute. Well, fans, there'll be a lot of reminiscing
the season that's coming to a close night here at
forest Field and Pittsburgh. A lot of wonderful things have
happened to baseball fans in the northeastern United States and
(08:46):
eastern Canada. Has Major League Baseball went outside the United
States and came to the very vibrant city of Montreal. Well,
you want to capture some of these memories, and some
of these memories will be contained in the ex Bols
year block. For instance, the formation of the ball club
spring training. That story is told in the exposed yearbook.
You'll find also a colored portrait of the team taking
(09:09):
at West Palm Beach and Flauda, and you can keep
that as a souvenir because that color apartment the first
team picture of the Montreal exposs. Of course, a lot
of them like Mary Wills and Jim Gratt. The longer
with the ball club, all the more reasons why you
want to keep it as a souvenir. For a copy
of the exposed yearbook, send a dollar twenty five to
(09:29):
Yearbook Jerry Park, Montreal. That yearbook, Jerry Park, Montreal. Sorry,
you've heard from the players, and I mentioned earlier in
the program that we talked for a couple of minutes
with general manager Jim Fanning and Jim we were just
in agreement. There's no way you can cap this great
(09:50):
year that we've enjoyed in this expansion year.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
You really can't go over the highlights. It would just
take so long.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
But there is some sort of a strange feeling here
tonight to realize that this is the last game of
the season, and it's all over that first year that
seems so far away, way back last fall. The feeling
that you feel, Dave.
Speaker 9 (10:11):
And the feeling that I have is one that a
professional ballplayer feels every year this time, the last day,
and that's and he only knows it because he's experienced
it in the past.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
But in the next two weeks, these ballplayers that.
Speaker 9 (10:24):
Are in that dugout right now will have a void.
A void will come across their lives, and the true
major legal will be itching to do something.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
He'll be disappointed that.
Speaker 9 (10:35):
There's not a ballpark to go to in a uniform
to get into and play the game.
Speaker 5 (10:40):
You're going to experience it in the next two weeks because.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
You're gonna miss it so much.
Speaker 9 (10:44):
I know I'm gonna miss it. I'm gonna be wrapped
up in playoffs, and I'm gonna be back in Saint
Petersburg with our kids, and I'll be in the World Series.
Speaker 1 (10:52):
There will be many, many things to do to occupy.
Speaker 9 (10:54):
In my mind, but the void will be there, and
I will miss very, very definitely going to Jerry Park
and seeing games and getting the feel of the excitement
that was Montreal major League baseball in nineteen sixty nine,
and I just can't wait until next year. And I've
thought to many of our ballplayers.
Speaker 1 (11:11):
Ron Ferry, for one, just the other day, said.
Speaker 9 (11:12):
I wish spring training was beginning the day after the
season end so we could start preparing for nineteen seventy.
And I'm sure that the players who played.
Speaker 1 (11:21):
In Montreal this year, regardless of.
Speaker 9 (11:22):
What they did, experience a true and magnificent experience of
major League baseball and in a grand city. And I
don't say that just to be from the position I'm in.
I say this because I feel it, and every writer
that came to town, every broadcaster, every fan came away
(11:43):
with an unusually warm feeling about baseball, big League baseball,
and being big League baseball in Montreal.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
Jim, you've said it so well better than I could
put it in words, and I wanted them to add
to that, except that I can't help but agree one
hundred percent with what you said. Ironically, Traveling Secretary Jean
Kirby and I were talking just yesterday and Jean said, well,
they have won more day to go, and I said, yeah,
but Gene, I don't know how you feel, but if
we were starting another one hundred and sixty two the
(12:12):
next day. I'm already and he said, you know, I
am too. And you just have that feeling that you
hate to see this great and wonderful thing that has
happened come to an end. But it really gets you
charged up to even think about next year, which I
know is what is on your mind now, to prepare
the youngsters in the in the winter leagues, the instructional League,
and get set for spring creating.
Speaker 9 (12:33):
Well, Dave Gene and I talked this afternoon. I came
in from Saint Petersburg this morning with Melvidier. In fact,
we're going to film almost the entire game tonight on
sixteen millimeter film. We have a number of things specifically
that we want to put on film.
Speaker 1 (12:46):
We want to show it this winter, and we want
to use it back and forth, and we'll get involved
in considerable filming.
Speaker 9 (12:51):
In nineteen seventy in our spring training. But we were
talking this afternoon, and we talked about next year, and
we talked about players to a couple of general managers today,
and we talk about players and thoughts already are being
formed and suggestion for what can we do to improve
our club and how can we improve the players that
(13:13):
we have? And we rather felt this way, and I
like to tell you that we just felt that we
had a call. I had a call today from a
general manager. I returned the call from the Tampa airport
and he was interested in a player.
Speaker 1 (13:26):
Or two that we had.
Speaker 9 (13:28):
And Gene and I then talked about it and said
that the players we have really the pitchers we have
after a winner of instruction in the Instructional League and
a full spring training, we may have right here on
this ball club.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
The pitching we need for next year.
Speaker 9 (13:47):
And we're going to view this pretty much in that line.
Unless we convitter ourselves considerably, we may have right here
the players that can perform for us next year.
Speaker 1 (13:57):
I know that that is thinking, and I think that
the fans have seen the progress that our young ballplayers
have made and they too would feel the same. Win
are looking forward to next season. Jim, want to thank
you very much for taking time to come by here
in chat for a couple of minutes on our final
nineteen sixty nine broadcast. Thank you so much, general great
general manager, Jim Fanning. Right now, let's take ten seconds
(14:19):
for station identification on the Exposed Baseball Radio Network.
Speaker 10 (14:23):
This is the home of Expo Baseball in the Capital
District WHRL in Albany, New York.
Speaker 1 (14:32):
He is the goal all right, right now. The umpires
will be coming to home plate in a couple of minutes,
so I'll be back with a look at tonight's starting
pictures in just one minute. How would you like a
Christmas shopping suggestion? Expose season tickets for next year box
seats cost three hundred and fifty dollars, a saving of
(14:53):
thirty five dollars if you buy a box seed. Reserve
seats will cost two hundred and fifty dollars, a saving
of nine eighteen dollars and fifty cents if you buy
a reserve seat, and good news in the expose. These
prices are exactly the same as this past season nineteen
sixty nine, which means no boost in prices for Major
League Baseball at Jerry Park next year. Box seats three
(15:17):
hundred and fifty dollars, reserve seats two hundred and fifty dollars,
and orders are now being accepted by the Montreal Exposed
Box Office for further information. Right two, the Montreal Exposed
Baseball Club ten ten Saint Caprion Street, West, Montreal. That's
the Montreal Exposed Baseball Club ten ten Saint Camprion Street
(15:38):
West in Montreal. Today's serving pictures right handre Bob Moves
for the Pirates as one thirteen and lost thirteen and
right hander Jerry Robertson will be on the mound of
the exposed. Jerry is the pitcher on the exposed seven
(15:58):
of the regular starters for the lowest and run average,
as we say, of the regulars, with a three point
nine to three ERA, he's one five and lost fifteen.
This will be his twenty seventh start of the year
and that's his number, so maybe that's a good side
Jerry Robertson against Bob Moves. Now stay tuned for X
Balls Baseball.
Speaker 6 (16:21):

Historic coming right there, the historic pots hiring to think
(18:25):
security est Currently I take ring of this today the
rumors Ross Taylor with Dave van arm Back at Historic
for Steel in Pittsburgh, and right now the cloud rises
for the playing of the national anthems of Canada and
(18:46):
the United States ste m e.
Speaker 11 (20:23):
E nine eight eight.
Speaker 1 (21:28):
Here are the starting line up for the night's ball
game for the Montreal x Balls. The lead off man
will be second baseman Marv Staley, Jim Ferry and center
Fee will bat second Rusty Stopped hitting three oh one
and a member of a top ten in batting in
the National League. Bat's third for the x Balls, and
we'll play right field. Mac Jones and left field will
(21:48):
be clean up man. Kevin Collins at third base, bat's fifth, sixth,
and the order tie Kline at first base. Ron Brand
the catcher will be batting seven. Bobby Wine, the shortstop,
will be eighth man in the order, and Night's man
up will be the pitcher. Jerry Robertson Paula Pittsburgh Pirates.
Matty Alou will lead off in center field, Dave Cash
(22:08):
at second base, bast second. Roberto Flamenti in right field
will be third man up for the Pirates. Willie Stodgell
gets the clean up of Simon as usual to Night.
Stodgell in left field. Hal Oliver, the first baseman, will
be batting fifth, sixth in the order, Many Sanghi and
the catcher. The seventh man up will be Richie Hefner
at third base. Little Freddie poteket shut stop, will be
(22:30):
batting eighth, and Bob Moves the pitcher will be botting nine.
We have to apologize. I must apologize for rushing through
those of batting orders. For those of you are keeping
a short guard at home. However, time is running a
little late. Stadia is already in the batter's box and
Bob Moses set two saw the first pitch and all
step for the play by play, Dave Van Horne, thank
(22:52):
you very much, Rus Marv Staley, Jim Barry, Rusty staff,
first pitch to Staley down low ball one in this
game is underway. The final game of the nineteen sixty
nine season. Staley bats left Bob Moose, his first outing
since he pitched the no hitter against the New York
Massa Chase Stadium. The one zero is foul back onto
(23:12):
the screen. One ball and one strike. Staley is hitting
four twenty nine and five games. He has six hits
in fourteen at bats with the Expos, including one home run.
Playing second base, choking up a little bit on the bat,
maybe two three inches, and that's all Moose into the
(23:33):
wind up the one one pitch and the breaking ball
missed the outside corner. Two balls and one strike. Now
the Expos won more games in the San Diego Padres,
if that has any meaning. In this expansion year. Pitches
way inside, ball three, three and one. We won fifty two.
(23:54):
The Padres have one fifty. Here's a one got on
this ball hit high out of the year down the
left field line. Start jog crossing the line in the
foul territory. Can get it? Pull cat to Marv Staley
reballs two strikes that went down into the exposed bullpen
way down that left field line. It's it's been some year,
(24:21):
as we mentioned on the pre game show, and just
next to impossible to recap the highlights, the joys, and
the thrill of this first year. Here's a three to
two Staley swings a good drive to right center. Could
be trouble. Clementy over there, can't get it. This is
going to the power alley. Rounding first, headed for second
is Staley. Clementy up with the ball and Staley will
(24:41):
hold it second base with a stand up double to
lead this game up. I guess right hander Bob Moose
myerv Stalley doubles to the right center power ally a
three to two pitch from Moose. So there's the first
hit of the ball game and the batter is Jim Ferry.
Jim Ferry is hitting two sixty seven. Another left hand
(25:05):
better Moses won thirteen and lost three and has a
very nice three point oh two e ra A. He
deals swing in a fowl at the plate oh and
one the coup after Jim Ferry Rusty stopped. Rusty z
(25:25):
on deck. Big guy wanting to finish the year three
hundred or better. He'll do it. Here's a strike called
oh and two to Ferry stop betting three oh one
at the start of the game. Is now in the
National League top ten, along with Manny san Gee in
(25:45):
a Pittsburgh here number nine and ten. Moses at the
belt looks at the runner of the go to Ferry
swings a looping lighter down the left field line. It
drops fare ball and coming around third headed for the
plate is Dalley holding it first base. Jim Ferry with
an RBI single down the left field line. The ex
post takeo one to nothing lead a couple of hits.
(26:09):
Now moose and Jim Ferry drives in a run here
with an opposite field single. The batter of Rusty stop
hitting three oh one leads the club and hits with
one hundred and sixty four in runs, with eighty nine
home runs, with twenty nine walks, with one hundred and
nine eleven of them intentional. Rusty stove left hand hitter.
(26:34):
The runner Jim Ferry takes his lead from first. Mosset
gives him a look the bitch to stop breaking ball
for a strike. Oh and one on deck is Mac Jones,
Starve Gelsen left a loo in center and Clomettian right
around the infield, Heavener at third, Poteck at short, Cash
at second, and Oliver at first. Sangian's catching, here's a
(26:55):
move to first base. Ferry gets back in the bag
only one the on. Rusty stops the pitch down in
the dirt, gets away from San Gayan. Now he's founded
in the runner. We'll hold Jim Ferry at first base.
Sam Ginn had trouble finding that ball and it was
(27:16):
just behind the plate Umbire Aggie Dona Telly's and gin
had to move Dona telly out of the way with
a little nuts came up with the ball. Ferry holding
verse one ball one strike closes set the pitch stop
swings and misses one and two for Rusty. In the
(27:42):
RBI department is four behind Cocoa Boy and tied with
Mac Jones. Coco leaves the club in RBI's with eighty three.
Mac and Rusty have seventy nine. Here's the one two
swinging a bowl bounced over top of the Pirates dug
out into the seats off to our right. One ball,
two strikes. We very well be watching a historic game
here tonight, the final Pittsburgh Pirates game at Forbes Field.
(28:06):
They're scheduled to move into the new Three Rivers Stadium
next year, and the newspapers here today said it looks
like they'll make it on schedule and get in there
in April. They are only about three weeks behind schedule,
and most of the work that they're behind on involves
work surrounding the stadium itself. Here's the one too stop
(28:29):
swings and bowls it off to the left, still the
ball and two strike. It involves entrance roadways to the stadium,
parking area, the parking area itself, the stadium proper constructions
coming along right on schedule. There are some who pessimistically
(28:49):
say this is not the final game at Forbes Field, though.
Here's the one two to stop check swing and Dona
Telly says, rust that you went around and he's out swinging.
The side goes down a strikeout here for Bob Moose,
and the batter will be Mac Jones. Mac Jones is
(29:09):
batting two seventy. Mac has one hundred and twenty two hits,
four hundred and fifty two trips to the plate. Barry
at verst one out, Exposed, leading one nothing. First pitch
to Mac is high ball, one one and zero on deck.
Kevin Collins the infields at double played deck with pot
(29:33):
deck playing back. Just a couple of steps. The pitch
to Mac hit the inside corner about bel Hive, one
ball and one strike. Al Oliver, the first baseman playing,
is stepped behind the bag protecting the line. The one
(29:55):
one to Mac swung on and miss strike two. Pittsburgh
right handed Bob Moose getting out in front. One ball,
two strikes. We're in the top of the first the
game just underwave. Moose is ready. The one two pitch
(30:15):
swung on and found tipped at the plate down end
of the dry. Still a ball and two strikes we
have I would say maybe two thousand here tonight, and
with a couple of good crowds here in Pittsburgh last
night and tonight, the Exposed would have finished up on
(30:36):
the road playing to over one million bands. Here's the
one two to Mac Jones, lowing inside ball too Dave.
San Francisco's Candlestick Park was a lonely place this afternoon.
Only one nine ninety five turned out, and they saw
the Padres beat the Giants three the two. Here's the
(30:56):
two to two pitch, Max swings and missus strike three.
He's out of there. Go back to back strikeouts here
for Bob Boos getting Rusty Stobb and Mac Jones out
of the batter will be Kevin Collins with two outs
and Jim Ferry at first base. Marv Staley led this
thing off with a double and Ferry drove me in
with an opposite field single. Now with two down, Kevin
(31:19):
Collins moves in. Kevin is batting two fifty for Montreal
in fifty one games, twenty three for ninety two for
the year, including his New York totals. He's batting two twenty.
Here's the bitch Collins swings and missus strake one. If
Kevin can get on, Ty Klein will be the batter
Ties playing at first base tonight, Ron Fairley out with
(31:42):
that sore neck. Here's the hole one, bitch cut on,
bounce to the right side, up with it cash He
throws the first. That's all for Collins, and that's all
for the Expos. But there's one run in on two hits,
no heirs, one man left, and the score the Montreal
as one. The Pittsburgh Pirates coming the bat. Checking those scores.
(32:04):
Elsewhere in the National League this afternoon, the Cubs beat
the Mets five to three. Too little, too late for
the Cubs, decord the winner Cardwellers. There's Santa and Bank
format for the Cubs, where Santa was twenty ninth of
the year, for Banks is twenty third. The Padres beat
the Giants three to two, curvy the winner over Robertson.
As we told you one thousand, nine ninety nine fans
(32:27):
turned up for that game. Cincinnati had Atlanta Night no
score on the bottom half of the first inning. Philadelphia's
at Saint Louis, Houston at Los Angeles. The Cardinals still
have a chance finishing in a third place tie with
the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates have pinched at least a
tie for third place, but Saint Louis could finish in
(32:48):
a tie should the Pirates loose Night in Saint Louis
win their ball games with the Philly. Houston plays half
Los Angeles. That game on the West Coast will be
coming in a little later on. In the bottom half
of the first inning, Pirate Fleet off man Matty Alu.
(33:10):
It'll be Matty Alu, Dave Cash, and Roberto Clement brus
Taylor along with Dave van Horn bringing you the final
game of a nineteen sixty nine season. Jerry Robertson has
completed his warm ups. Jerry has worked in a total
of thirty seven games. This is his twenty seventh starting assignment.
(33:33):
He has three complete games and a five and fifteen record.
He's worked one hundred and seventy four and a third
innings and has a three point nine to three ERA
and among the starting pitchers sets the best. Jerry Robertson
will face Matty Alu, Dave Cash and Roberto Kamani Alu
(33:55):
left hand better, fourth best hitter in the league, betting
three point thirty first pitches bounced to the right side
up with it as stately, he throws to climb and
that's all for Loo. One pitch and he's out. That
brings Dave Cash to the plate right hand better. This
young buck is betting two sixty eight wayn deck the
(34:19):
expos leading one nothing. Here's Robbie's wind up and the pitch.
If the outside corner just above the knees a strike,
Ohen one, Virginian Pop, Jimmy, here's a bitch. Fastball is
(34:42):
foul upstairs to our right, oh and two, Robbie out
in front quickly. Robbie last year only worked seventy eight innings.
The year before ninety one, the most he's ever worked
was in nineteen sixty six at Saint Petersburg in the
Florida State League, he worked one hundred and fifteen innings,
and this year has chucked up one hundred and seventy four.
In the third innings, the O two bitch cracked by
(35:05):
Alway up to the right, bill Owen two on Dave catch.
I asked Robbie when we flew down here he gets
up for this series on the plane, if maybe he
wasn't a little bit tired work he met many innings
and he said, you know, I really don't think. So.
Here's the O two pitch inside ball one. He said,
(35:26):
I had the flu, and I had some dental work
that needed to be done, had a bad tooth, and
he said, I think the combination of those things had
me down and I was just weak physically. But I
don't think it's tired. I'm tired from pitching. Swing and
a miss. Cash is out, two down, straight out for Jerry.
The batter Robert Oglamaney. Robbie's looking forward to going to
(35:50):
the Instructional League. He is most pleased with the opportunity
to manager Gene Mark has given him find the young
right hander Jerry Robertson. Roberto Falmetty gets a nice hat
as he steps up here Clemette batting three forty two.
(36:11):
He's been in the battle the batting ground, but looks
like it's all over, but the shouting for Pete Rose.
The first pitch going away from Clemetty, ball one. I
think the line up in the pitch Cometti takes it
(36:32):
hide ball two, two and nothing. Would the Pirates are expecting?
Uh well, I shouldn't say the Pirates are expecting. There
was a rumor here today. Here's a pitch to Clemetty
is ball three, Robbie behind three and zero. There's a
(36:54):
rumor here today that the Pirates would name their manager
within ten days, and a lot of speculation as to
who it might be. Here's a three to oz bitch.
It's high ball four and Clementy is on with two out.
Star Jel will be the better Dave. If my mathematics
Derek Director is figuring out before the ball game get underway,
Babetta Clemtty would have to go four for four and
(37:16):
Seed Rawls would have to go zero for four in
tonight's Cincinnati game in order for Coromenty to win the
batting Championship. He would then defeat that Pete Draws by
one percentage point. Hell, here is Stargell swinging a foul
tip off his ankle on the first bitch. Willie's batting
(37:38):
three to eight. Clementy since nineteen sixty the last nine years,
has had only one year in which he has not
hit three hundred, and that was last year when he
hit two ninety one. And he'll hit three hundred this year.
Really great hitters of the National League. Roberto Clemtty the
runner at first base, Willie Stargell at the plate. One taken,
(38:00):
inside ball, one one ball, one strike, they're two outs.
Al Oliver is on deck. He'll come up as Star
Jaw gets on. X Bo's leading one to nothing. Here
in the first inning, Robertson deals Stargell swingings and missus
strike two, a ball and two strikes. Willie said his
(38:24):
goal was to hit for average in the first half
of the season and for home runs in the second half,
and he did just that. He hit over three hundred
in the first half of the season, dropped to about
two ninety in the second half. In the first half
of the season, he hit twelve home runs. In the
second half of the season, he's hit seventeen home run.
The next one down low ball two, two balls and
two strikes. To Willie Stargell, Starjall wanted to hit one
(38:48):
more ball on the roof of Forbes Field before he
moved out of here, and he hit three this year
on the right field roof. There's bitch is low, but
he swung and went after it, and he's out. Boy.
Jerry threw that ball down in a dirt and star
Jall went after it. He was anxious. Joey goes down's
swinging two strikeouts here for Jerry Robertson and the pirates
(39:09):
who threw in the first no runs, no hits, no airs,
one left at the end of one. It's the exposed
one and the pirates loving in the American League this
after now on the Minnesota Twins, the feat of the
Chicago White Sox six to five years, thend of the winner,
he's Bourn one Johnson loser. He's one and three home
runs in that game for the Twins, Ree, Oliva and
(39:29):
Allison for rich reis the sixteenth of the year for
Tony Oliva is twenty fourth for Bob Allison, his eighth
poleman of the year. Tonight in the American League, it'll
be California, Kansas City and open at Seattle. Cleveland was
to play the Yankees at Yankee Stadium in New York. However,
we're just in that game has been canceled by rain,
(39:50):
and of course in this the final day of the schedule,
they don't say postpone. There's no postponeman. It's just canceled,
and it means the Yankee and the Cleveland Indians will
wind up with one hundred and sixty one games played
this season bought. Since that had no effected ball on
the standings in the Eastern Division of the American League,
they just canceled the game. Out right, Yankees finished in
(40:12):
fifth place. Cleveland finished sixth in the Eastern Division. Stepping
in left hand hit Here thy Cline Tay is batting
in the number six spot. The bitch taken high ball one.
It'll be followed by Ron Brand and Bobby Wine. Thy
(40:33):
Kline has hit two thirty nine and one hundred games
forty nine hits, two hundred and five at bats. The
one zero climb takes a breaking ball for a strike,
one ball and one strike. That Chinier flight back to
Montreal to night is going to be could be very
(40:55):
lonely played. Here's the one to one and has swung
on and missed strike two, one ball, two strikes. So
many of the ballplayers are heading for home right here
from Pittsburgh after tonight's game or first thing in the morning.
Here's the one two pitch chopped vow to the right side,
(41:17):
still one ball and who strikes the tyke Line. Ty
Kline is one of those who will stay overnight here
in Pittsburgh and head for Charleston, South Carolina in the morning.
And the man is on deck, Ron Brand. He'll be
heading back to Montreal where he'll be spending the winter.
Most winds it up the one two pitch ty Swing's
(41:38):
ground ball on the left side up with a pottack.
He fires the first end time, and he's got clined
by seven and a half. Dave uh Bob Bailey gave
me a fifteen cent tip today that here's a diamond
a nickel. I won't need the Canadian coins. He's heading
out to California. Could that be considered a pride fifteen cents?
(42:01):
I don't know. We'll have to look that up in
the book here of Paola. Yeah, we'll have to look
up in broadcasting ethics and find out. Here's the pitch
to Ron Brand way outside ball one. Ron Brand is
batting two fifty eight. Bobby Wine is on deck. The
(42:23):
outfield is shallowing around to the right for Ronnie. The
next one's cut on and chopped to the left side.
How Tak deep in the hole, fires the first that
he's got him. Patak made a nice throw because as
he went in the hall and planted himself, he slipped
a little bit, but still got the throwaway to get
Brand at first. It's all two up, two down the
(42:44):
batter Bobby Wine. Bobby went home to Philadelphia from Montreal
after Sunday's game there and drove to Pittsburgh for this
two game series. He's driving back to Philadelphia After the game,
right hand hitter Bobby Wine hit two O two for
the year, swing in a miss, strike one, and Bobby,
(43:11):
while not making light of his efforts at the plate,
Bobby did crack the joke in the clubhouse tonight that
he was going to go out there tonight. He wanted
to finish up hitting two o five for the season.
He thought that sounded better than two two. The cat
has gone one and one. Bob Moose deals Wine, swings
(43:38):
and fouls one onto the roof up to our right,
one ball and two strikes Bobby. Of course, we'll have
just a few days before he heads down to Florida
handed the Instructional League. Here's the one two pitch. Wine
swings and misses, a breaking ball breakout for Bob Moose
(44:01):
in this ball game, and the Expos are down one,
two three in the second. At the end of one
and a half at Forbesfield, the exposed one the Pirates,
nothing fad. We'd like to remind you once again of
the Baseball Centennial album, which is now on sale. Actually
a subtainable by mail by writing the Montreal Expos Centennial
(44:21):
Album Fox five hundred, Revere, Massachusetts, send three dollars American
money checker, money order or three dollars twenty five cents
Canadian money check or money order. And we've been talking
all about this record. It contains the voices of some
of the greats of the game, the late great Babe,
Ruth Christ, Speaker, Bonas Wagner, many many others. Also some
(44:44):
fine play by play excerpts from World Series of years
gone by. Remember all John Frido's great catch off Joe DiMaggio, Well,
that description is on this Exposed Baseball record. Also another
great moment in history right here at Forbesfield and Pittsburgh,
when Bill Mazeroski hits the game winning home run off
(45:06):
Ralph Terry of the Yankee nineteen sixty World Series. So
fans for a copy of the base Fall Centennial Album,
send three dollars twenty five cents Canadian money for three
dollars American money check or money order to Montreal Exposed
Baseball Centennial Album Box five hundred, Revere, Massachusetts. Right now,
(45:35):
let's take ten seconds for station and edification. This is
the Expo Baseball Radio Network.
Speaker 10 (45:40):
This is the home of Expo Baseball in the Capitol
District WHRL in Albany, New.
Speaker 1 (45:45):
York Oliver al Oliver is the first pattern for the Pirates.
Here in the bottom of the second, with the exposed
leading one nothing, Jerry Robertson delivers high and inside ball one.
Oliver left hand better hitting two eighty six. Fine looking
rookie swinging a foul tap at the plate, one ball,
(46:09):
one strike. Oliver wound up hitting two eighty six and
one hundred and twenty eight games, had seventeen home runs,
seventy RBIs. Here's the one one breaking ball, just missed
the outside corner, a little low, two balls, one strike.
(46:32):
Colin's playing even with the bag of the left hand
hitter and the right side of the infield moves back.
Client at first, Staley at second. Next pitch is low
for ball three and it's three and one now to Oliver.
Robbie delivers scot on and fouled way off to the left,
three and two. Pirates have drawn seven hundred and sixty
(47:06):
six thousand, six hundred and sixty nine fans this year.
At Forbes Field, there's a three to two. It's hit
high end of the air and foul off to the
left into the seats. Again, still three and two. They're
ahead of last year's attendance. Of course, they've had a
(47:29):
club that gave it a pretty good run here in
the month of September. The three to two bitch cut
on and bounce to the right side, stay charges has it,
throws to climb. That's all for Oliver and the battle
will be many Sangian the Pirates by taking third place,
(47:54):
and they leave Pittsburgh by a game, they've assured themselves
of at least a sigh and they well, they've got
it because the best Saint Louis can do is get
within a half a game. Here's the first pitch to
san Gian has bunnet and bowled back onto the screen.
(48:15):
Strike one to Manny sang gheen. I'm trying to lean
over there and see the statistic wress. Hey, oh no,
Saint Louis is yeah, they've won eighty six, right, they've
got a chance to tie the Pirates if the Pirates
lose to night another's vow, san Gean swinging away back
in the seats to the right. Oh and two, one
out and nobody on. It is starting to rain here
(48:37):
at Forbes Field has rained throughout the day. Here in Pittsburgh,
we see Umbrella's going up a lot, a lot of
people heading for cover. This one bounced out in front
of the plate. One ball and two strikes to San Gian.
Just a very light drizzle went out. Nobody on the one.
(49:03):
Two bitch hit the inside corner. That is it for
san Gey and he's called out on strikes. Third strikeout
for Jerry Robertson. Sam Geyan talking to the plate on
fire allg you donna tell you about that. Sam Guie
did not particularly like the call. Here is Richie Hebner,
the Pirates outstanding rookie, third basement. Hebner left hand better
(49:26):
at two ninety eight, he has one hundred and thirty
six hits, forty six RBIs a high fly ball down
the left field line, Mac Jones giving chase in vowel territory.
He's got it. That's all for Hebner. Mac Jones getting
over there across the line in a hurry, and Heavener
flies out to Mac. That's all for the Pirates. They're
down one, two, three, nothing across and at the end
(49:48):
of two the score remains the Montreal exposed one, the
Pittsburgh Pirates nothing. Well. I think I'm quite safe in
saying that the players from both clubs certainly hope that
the rain doesn't delay the ball game and doesn't postpone
it anyway, this being the final game of the season,
because all I think all they're concerned with really is
(50:09):
to get in the necessary innings and if the rain
comes down after that, so what the feeling. I'm sure
the Pittsburgh poets the Montreal Expos, However, the Expos wants
dearly to close out their nineteen sixty nine season the
way they started with a victory. One of our most
exciting moments of this very exciting year was to see
the x Bolls when their opening game at Chase Stadium
(50:32):
in New York. That was back on April eighth of
this year, and there's been a lot of thrills down
through the months right up to the final night here
at Fortstfield and Pittsburgh as the Expos ring down the
curtains on their nineteen sixty nine seasons. Right now, they're
leading one to nothing on a double by Daium, a
single by Ferry in the top of the first well
(50:57):
the top of the third, and Jerry Robertson will be
the laid off batter for the exposed. Jerry will be
followed by the top of the order Marv Staley and
Jim Ferry. The expose leading one nothing. The rain has stopped.
It stopped as quickly as it started. Bob Moose, Pittsburgh
(51:18):
right hand here whips the strike across the letters on
the inside corner, Oh and one. Robbie up for the
first time the pits check swing. Did he go no?
It was high ball one, one ball, one strike. Moose
gave up a double to Staley, who let the game off.
(51:38):
Then Jim Ferry got a base hit to drive Staley,
and since then he's retired six in a row. The
wind up in the one one, Robbie bowls this one
into the upper deck. One ball and two strikes. Moose
(52:02):
delivers one two is low and outside ball to two
balls to strikes. Moose leans way over to look down
and get that sign. Here's the two to two swing
at a miss, strike three, and Robbie goes down swinging.
(52:22):
It's four strikeouts for Bob Moose. One away here in
the third and the batter Marv Staley. Saley doubled to
the right center power alley to lead this ball game off.
Right now with the Pirates, we're one and seven. Here
in Forbes field four and five at Jerry Park, So
for the year we stand five and twelve with Pittsburgh.
(52:45):
The first pitch to Staley is down, low ball one.
Moose deals has swung on and foul off to the
left side. One ball and one strike, and Staley might
(53:06):
have broken his bat when he foiled that ball up.
He's asked for another one. None of the bad boys
put the bet into the wreck. Maybe it's okay, and
at any rate, he preferred to get another piece of
wood to take up there with him. Here's the one
one and it's low ball to two and one. Bob
(53:33):
Moose has a one and oer record against our club.
Here's a bouncer to the right side. Cash has got it,
throws the first and Staley is out. That's hate men
in a row. Now that Bob Moose is retired. On
May third, Moose speak calonl. Morton forty two. He went
(53:54):
seven and two thirds inning Erry. Here's the bitch. Jim
Ferry takes it high ball one. In Bob Moose's last start,
it was September twentieth, and he pitched a no hitter
at Shave Stadium. Perry hits the ground ball to the
(54:17):
right side. This one cashes up with he throws the
ferst in the side is down again. One, two, three,
nine have been retired in a row, So Moose has
got quite a little string going here. Three up, three down,
nothing across. But at the end of two and a
half it's the Expos one the Pirate's nothing. Well before
this ball game get underway on our pregame show, you
(54:39):
heard a lot of the Expos ballplayers likewise before last
night's game, tell them what they're going to do in
the offseason. I'll tell you what I'm going to do
pretty soon. And since this season is over, traveling on
the road with the Expos, haven't had the opportunity to
enjoy the fine eating places in Montreal, and one of
my favorite eating places is the Stage Coaches the Perry
and John Demon. The Stage Coach is fast becoming Monthlyyall's
(55:02):
most popular gathering spot for sports personalities and fans alike.
The Stage Coach has many things going for you, such
ads as excellent bound with fine music, comfortable, friendly surrounding,
and of course do you like to talk sports? And
the Stage Coach the place to go. You'll find a
lot of sports personalities frequenting the stage coach. That's to
(55:22):
carry and John delon. Parking is no problem at the
stage coach. There's loads of it now if you wish
reservations per tables. The telephone number is seventy three to one,
seven seven seven one. That's the stage coach. The bottom
of the third, that's fair judge dot Fred Potek, the
(55:44):
first man ap takes pitch low ball one. Protect will
be followed by Bob Moose and Matty aloud one. Nothing
exposed here in the third. Robbie deals swinging amiss one
and one. The potect fo Tech batting two forty in
one hundred and forty six games. Jerry winds it up.
(56:07):
The one to one is lined in the center field.
A base hit up with the ball Jim Berry, So
Powtech is on and that is the first Pittsburgh hit
of the game. The batter will be Bob Moose, the
Pirates pitcher, and on deck Matty Yelu he was kind
(56:30):
of a hitter. Moose is well. He's batting eighty two
is four hits and forty nine trips to the plate.
Robbie delivers pitches high ball one. The exposer looking for
the sacrifice, try to get protect down the second phase.
Here we'll find out what kind of a punter. Bob
(56:54):
Moose is. At the belt, Robbie deals Moose funds right
back toward the mount. Robert up with it. He throws
the first and Moose sacrificed the runner. Moose just hit
get that ball a little bit to the right of
the mound. Had it been straight back, it was bun
and hard enough that Robbie would have gotten the lead
runner Potack at second easily and might have had a
(57:15):
double play. But Moose pushed it just enough to the
right side of the infield that by the time Robbie
got to it, he had only one play to make,
and that was the first base. So it scored one
to four. Robertson to Staley covering. Potek is in scoring position,
and here is Mati Yulou who was all for one.
He grounded out to Staley in the first inning. Robertson
(57:35):
at the belt checks the runner Potak to pitch. Hlu
swings a high fly ball left field foul territory. Mac
Joe's over there. He makes the catch on the line
and fires the third base. Patac holding second so there's
two away and a big man out of there, Matty Yulou.
Second time. Now, Ma's going over in Valve territory, down
(57:56):
that left field line to get a ball that was
hit rather well. So it's up to the second basement
that Dave Cash. He's struck out in the first inning,
right hand better. Now, the playoffs start on Saturday in Atlanta,
the New York Mets in the Atlanta Braids for the
(58:18):
National League Pennant. And the man that'll be handling the
play by play on most of these exposed network stations
who are carrying the playoff series, Bob Prince, the voice
of the Pittsburgh Pirates, be joining us here in a
few minutes. First pitch to Cash was low ball one.
(58:41):
Robbie is said again the one to zero, down, low
ball two, two to nothing, two outs, hot tack at second,
the exposed lead one nothing here in the third Bob's
partner will be the voice of the Houston Astros, Gene Elston,
(59:03):
and we know you'll enjoy that series. Here's the two
oz pitch. Cash takes a strike two and one. A
little bit of a right to left breeze here, but
not much. The two won the Cash cut on right
(59:23):
back through the box out into center field. Pot Tech
coming around. He's gonna score and the game will be tied.
Why that ball just did get under the glove of
Jerry Robertson. Jerry just about made an outstanding play, but
that ball was hit hard. Cash really ripped it up
the middle. Sorr He comes up with an RBI single
to tie the game at one. One here in the
(59:45):
third second hit off Jerry, the batter will be Roberto Fomti,
who walked in the first sitting dash the runner at first,
two down and now a one to one ball game.
(01:00:09):
Robbie at the belt the pitch Flementy fowls it upstairs
all in one. By the way, Mattie Alou, who's been
to bat twice here in this game so far tonight,
needs just two more times at bat to break a
major league record for the most times at bat in
(01:00:30):
the season. Woody Jensen's at the record six hundred ninety
six in one hundred and fifty three games. That was
back in nineteen thirty six, and a Lou can break
that record with two more official at bats in this
final game of the season. The next pitch to Clementy
is down low ball, one, one ball and one strike.
(01:00:54):
So in many respects, this is a very historic ballgame.
Here Old forbes Field tonight the one one swing in
a foul tip at the plate, one ball, two strikes,
with two outs, Cash at first and Clemty at the plate.
(01:01:22):
Jerry Robertson getting the sign from Ron Bryant at the
Beltie deals swinging a foul upstairs on the roof first
base side. Clementi has got an eight game hit streak,
going ready again for the one two fitch to Roberto Mandy.
(01:02:00):
I'll look at the runner. Here comes the many swings
shark ground ball, left back, diving Wine misses it out
in the left center base hit. I throw to third
base the hole. Cash, now there's no man. He's hit.
Give him a nine game history to wind up the season.
(01:02:21):
Third had of the inning. Cash goes to third and
the batter will be Willie stargells Alex Grammys and Bill
Burden to the members of the committee running the Pirates.
(01:02:42):
They're having a chat behind home plate right now. Burden
going back to the dug out in Grammars to the
third base box. Let's star. Willie Stargell the batter he
struck out in the first sitting. There's action coming here.
With two outs, Robertson delivers. Star Jew swings and missus
(01:03:09):
strike one at the belt and the pitch swinging a
mess strike two. Robbie quickly out in front of Willie Stargell,
(01:03:31):
oh and two. Star Jell is trying to do one
thing up there right now that has hit the ball
on the roof, the right field roof. He's taking vicious
cut the O two way inside, moving back one ball,
two strikes. The game sign here one one bottom of
(01:03:55):
the third, runners at first and third for Lenty at first,
Cash at third, and Robbie is set the one two
bitch a high fly balls last center coming in Mac Jones.
He's there and he's got it. That's all for Willie
Stargell and the Pirates. In the third they come up
(01:04:17):
with a run on three hits, no heirs, two were
left and they scored out the end of three. At
Forbes Field, the Expos won the Pirates one. Reviewing those
other town scores once again, the Sad and the Cubs
beat the Matts five to three. Decker the winner Cardwell
Lizard Satawan Banks homered for the Cup, San Diego defeat
of San Francisco three to two. Kirby the winner, over
(01:04:40):
Robertson before only one thousand, nine ninety five fans since
to night he had Atlanta the night top of the third,
don't score. Philadelphia's at Saint Louis fat ball game just
about to get underway. We'll start in about ten minutes time.
Grant Jackson we'll pitch for the Phillies, and Bob Gibson
for the Cardinals Houston at Law Angeles. Later on in
(01:05:02):
the American League, the Cleveland, New York game was canceled
by rains. So that's it for the Indians and the
Yankees for this year. Both from that Seattle. We'll be
out in the West Coast and starting later this afternoon,
Minnesota defeat of Chicago six to five because under the
winner Johnson, the loser, Reese, Oliva and Allison hit home
runs for the Twins. California's at Kansas City. Nothing in
(01:05:24):
yet on that game. Here the totals at the end
of three the Exposed one run, two hits, no airs,
and a man left. The Pirates a run, three HiT's,
no airs, and three left. And we go to the
point in a one to one ball game. Here's Russ
(01:05:46):
and here's the first pitch to Russy stop. Russy takes
it for a call strike. Russie still would like to
wind up with thirty home runs eighty runs batted in,
of course, hitting three hundreds coming into the night's game,
hitting three oh one. Next one is lining the left field.
It will drop in there for at least one stop
makes the turn at first will hold off the throw
(01:06:06):
by Stardele is in the second base and Rusty has
a hit a single to left field, and that pretty
well assures Rusty stop up finishing in the three hundred racket.
Right now, Rusty is tied per ten spot with many
Sanghin of the Pirates. Single the left field by Rusty Stop.
(01:06:27):
Here's Mac he struck out in the first inning. First
pitch by Moses down low for ball one, one ball
and nose strikes on Mac Jones stop the runner on
first base. One all tie between the Pirates and the
exposed mac Files. The next one off back against the
screen count of one and two. One won the camp
(01:06:56):
one ball and one strike on mac Jones. Feel straight
away and deep all night. Clementy is deep and right
allwin center and Stargeland left. Here's the one one inside
for ball two, stop on first with a single. Here's
(01:07:22):
a two one swung on and missed, or strike.
Speaker 12 (01:07:25):
Two, Piper and you can take him bout two balls.
Speaker 1 (01:07:35):
And two strikes. Moves down. The Cubs get the sign
from many Singian. Here's a pitch line drive right to Pawtac.
He races over and takes the bag Florida first, not
in time. Pawtack elected to race the bag rather than
prior to Dave cash as second basement moving over, Little
(01:07:57):
Freddy figured that he would get Mike Jones on the RelA.
He got the rusty stop on the forest, but Mike
was too fast for Pawtack and beat it up.
Speaker 6 (01:08:11):
And I give it.
Speaker 1 (01:08:17):
I'm gonna go. Care's keV Colin Colin's grounded out taking
the first Kevin popped this one up. I believe it's
out a fly. Yes, it is the left side into
the seat on what on? keV Colin? Colin's hitting two
twenty three home runs, thirteen runs out of the don't
(01:08:40):
you anything? Call him first and Jones is back just
in time. It's a chopper in front of the plane.
It gets away from than gain and Collins is safe.
Had guns the air. The Manny sang in. He bobbled
(01:09:03):
the ball a hike chopper in front of home play.
Everybody saved Collins at first and Jones is into second
base at the shot of this inning, Bob Robertson whatever
I an't think, Yeah that lord Bob Robertson took over
(01:09:24):
from Al Oliver at first base, so change his scorecard.
He plays Al Oliver with Bob Robertson Tyklion the better.
The first petch tie is inside ball one one and
all accounts exposed at first and second one out. Top
half of the fourth. Andy Ty grounded out short the
(01:09:47):
first first time up in the second in east Most
checks his man at second base. The fetchatie is taken
for a call strike one ball and one strike with
one out. Later on, Bob Moose, Bob Moose, Bob Prince,
one of the great broadcasters Major League Baseball broadcast the
(01:10:09):
Pirates game will be on our broadcast in our Montreal
area of baseball fans and the lawn the network will
get a chance to listen to Bob Prince. The next
one is inside the tie cline count of two balls
and one strike. Most delivers are two to one. It's
found on the right side back against the screen. Count
(01:10:33):
as two balls and two strikes. Colin's on first, Jones
on second, one out, two into the count, Ronnie Brand
on deck. Here's the two to two decline. It's slung
(01:10:54):
on and this for strike three. That's five strikeoffs for
Bob Moose. Ronnie Brand grounded out short the first in
the second in English, so that fired that field. That
(01:11:14):
pirate infield should say as Bob robertson that first base.
Dave Cash at second, Rich Heavener third, and Freddy pop
takets short. Ronnie hits this one on the ground, and
Cash at second base taught the first and the size retired,
while the x bos in the fourth, no rons on
(01:11:35):
one hit, one air, and two men left on vain.
After three and a half innings of play, the scar
xposed one pirate one to take a look at the
baseball scoreboard now. In games this afternoon, in case you
missed the final scores, the Chicago Cubs beat the New
York Mets five to three. Joe Decker the winner, Don
(01:11:56):
Cardwell the loser, Santo and Banks homers for the Cup.
The Fires beat the Giants in there wrap up, but
Candlestick Park in San Francisco three to two, Kirby the winner,
Roberts and the loser, And as Russ mentioned earlier, they
had only one thousand and nine hundred there Candlestick Park
for that ball game. Cincinnati scored a run at the
(01:12:19):
top of the third. Bob Aspremonti tied it up with
a home run in the bottom of the third. So
in Atlanta it's a one to one ball game with
the Braves batting in the bottom of the third. Jim
Maloney is pitching for the Reds. Mel Queen for Atlanta.
Philadelphia be at Saint Louis Jackson against Gibson getting underway
in a few minutes. Houston's at Los Angeles later on,
(01:12:40):
and of course everybody winds it up today in the
American League, one game has been washed out Cleveland at
New York, and this afternoon Minnesota beat Chicago six five
Bob Roberts and Molina for the Pirates in the bottom
half of the fourth inn we've got a one all tie.
The Pirate tied up the ballgame one all in the
(01:13:01):
bottom half the third inning with two out a single
by Cash, a single by Clementy, single by Pottack, another
one by Cash drove in Pottack with the only only
run for the Pirate. Yes, the Bishop Robertson swung on
a miss for strike one Robertson against Robertson here in
(01:13:22):
the bottom half of the fourth innings at Fourth Field
in Pittsburgh, the final game of the nineteen sixty nine season.
Here's the old one down low one on won account. Yeah,
and Professers Dave Van Horn and Russ Taylor tremendous experience.
(01:13:44):
A lot of traveling too. Why we really logged a
lot of air miles. Here's the one one it swung
on and missed for strike toon one and two Robertson.
Jerry Robertson has struck out three biders in this game
so far. That question and slowing inside count up two
(01:14:10):
and two. Bob Robertson's got a lot of power, and
the ex balls outfield in full respect of that power
is out deep and tying outside count of three and two.
Robertson Stobb and right, Barry and center and Mac Johnson
(01:14:35):
left field. Full count on. Bob Robertson's first man up
for the Pirates, in the bottom of the four, Robertson
sung gin and Hepner strike calls and Robertson's out of
their walk. Strikeout, Poor Jerry Robertson. There's money sang in.
(01:15:00):
Manny's over two and he's tied with Rusty Stuff for
tenth spots among the National League hitters. Manny hitting three
oh one. This hit on the ground of first basement.
Tie Cline Pile will make the foot out of himself,
takes the bag. Let's take ten seconds for station identifications.
(01:15:22):
This is the ex fools Baseball radio network. So many
ten again is all for two. Rusty Stuff is one
for two. So Rusty has the upper hand at the
(01:15:45):
moment as far as that tenth spot is concerned. Have
their minds at a climb, ty right, this is the
back It's going to be close. Have not beat about
Big Cline build a back ball on rot that bounced
just in front of him. His momentum carried him over
the line, over the fall line, and by the time
(01:16:06):
he got the bag at first base, Ritchie Heavener split
in and after I get the base hit the right side.
(01:16:27):
Here's Fred Pontag. He bounces this one to call him
the third played the first and the side is retired.
Now hot Tagg bounces out third to first for the
Pirates in the four no runs on one hit, no X,
four ears and one man left on the score after
four innings is still Export one Pirates one. In the
(01:16:53):
American League, tonight, California is playing at Kansas City. They're
scoreless at the end of two innings there. That is
gets your against bunker the batteries on the Philadelphia game.
The warm ups are in now at Saint Louis no
beginning anyway. That's Grant Jackson, the Philadelphia left entered against
Bob Gibson. Gibson tonight will be shooting for his twentieth
(01:17:15):
victory and he'll need it to die. Of course, this
is the last game, so he's got a shot at
winning twenty again. One game washed out. The Cleveland, New
York game canceled because of rain. So elsewhere in the
American League we have Oakland and Seattle in one West
Coast game, and that's it because the Twins in the
White Sox played this afternoon with Minnesota winning six to five.
(01:17:39):
Joeers end of the winner, Bob Johnson the loser, Oliva
and Allison homered for the Twins, Tony Oliva's twenty fourth
and Bobby Allison's eighth. Bridge Reese also hit his sixteenth
of the year. Bobby Wynd, Jerry roberts and Marv Staley
(01:18:02):
in the top half of the fifth inning. Those delivers
first pitch to Wine, Bobby Twins and Missus for strike
wand Wine struck out in the second inning. Mose says
log five strikeouts so far. Lets the way most Kicks
delivers is next one swung on a mister strike two.
(01:18:29):
Most has given up three hits, a single the stove,
the single of Ferry and a double to Staley. Staley
and Ferry combined for the exposed run, Bobby ground of Heavener,
a third he deprowed for Rich and Bobby Wine is retired.
Here's Jerry Robertson. Jerry struck out in the third inning.
(01:18:53):
We'd like to remind all those along the X Bowl
Baseball Network all X Bow Baseball fans at the Unreal
Exposed box office is now accepting orders for season tickets
for next year. Robertson swings and Missus strike one. And
of course the good news is there will not be
any change in the prices. Fights will remain the same.
(01:19:17):
Hop file out of play into the states on the
right side behind the pirate dugout coun sell it though
(01:19:38):
in two there were three hundred and fifty dollars for
a box seat two hundred and fifty dollars for a
reserve seat. The O two change up swung on a
miss for strike tree click strikeouts promost. We go to
the top of the order in Myer Staley. Staley started
(01:19:59):
off with the ex suppose in the first inning with
a double in the right center field. This is the
home of Expo Baseball in the Capitol District w h
r L in Albany, New York. Tell that one to
nothing leads until the Pirate half of the third inning
s the first pitsh to stay his followship for strike one.
(01:20:29):
Follow us up in the broadcast booth and in press
raw extremely please to night receive holograph baseball from the
ex foot ball players. It's low for ball one. What
a souvenir that will be for us to keep for
years to come. Signatures of all the exposed and this
is the final day of the nineteen sixty nine season.
The one one is pop foul out a play to
(01:20:51):
the left, counts one and two on Marv Stay. That's
never sad. Count of one and two on Staley with
two out. Here's the next pitch, five on the right
(01:21:12):
side against the front of the field boxes. The young
fellow reaches over and gets themself a souvenir, and that
could be a souvenir and held treasure for years to come,
because this could very well be the final game ever
in Forbes Field, Pittsburgh. Coln's still one and two on Staley.
(01:21:32):
Here's the next one for most it's taped the high
bouncer down a second base. Cash makes the thought of
first Staley has retired, and so on the Expouse. Three up,
three down, no runs, no hits, no errors, nobody left
on After four and a half innings, it's still Exposed
one the Pirates one. We were talking about various leaders
(01:21:56):
in different departments for the Exposed, so we might as
well run down on that list for you right now.
Of course, the leading average belongs to Rusty stab who
came into the game batting three Tozho one and games played.
Stop and La Boy have both played in one hundred
and fifty seven of the one hundred and sixty two
games at bats Coco La Boy, who's been at bat
(01:22:16):
officially five hundred and sixty two times coming into this game,
but of course Coco not playing tonight. The closest to
him and the number of official at bats is Rusty
Sab who has five hundred and forty five in runs scored.
It's Rusty Stop with eighty nine in hits, Rusty Stab
with one hundred and sixty five. Others over the one
(01:22:37):
hundred mark. Coco had one hundred and forty five, Gary
Sutherland one hundred and thirty, Mac Jones one hundred and
twenty two in doubles, Coco La Boy twenty nine triples,
Bob Bailey with six and of course home runs, Rusty
Stab with twenty nine, and RBI's Coco La Boy with
eighty three. Here at Forbesfield in Pittsburgh, this ball game
(01:23:01):
moves into the bottom of the fifth and the Pirates
coming to bat. Here the ball game tied up one
to one. Here's Russ Bob Moose will face Jerry robertson
Most leading off the Pirates from the bottom half the
fifth inning, then will go to the top and the
order with mighty A Llewin Dave's cash. Jerry Robertson has
(01:23:21):
given up fourheads xposals had three off Bob Moose. First
one is down load of Moose for ball one. Most
played a part in the Pirate run. In the third inning,
Pawtak got on with a single and Most laid out
a perfect sacrifice. BoNT moved him into scoring position at
second base. Ball two to Bob Moose, and then Pawtac
(01:23:44):
came in a scar on a single by Dave Cash
with two outs. Here's the two l taken for a call.
Stray Field moves in on mosting center and joneson left.
(01:24:05):
This is fall out of play the upper deck at
Forbes Field. Two balls and two strikes. Here's the two
(01:24:28):
two follow again against the screen, rolls right up the
netting and takes the long roll back onto the field.
Look out of two balls and two straight Most not
a hitting pitcher. He's four for forty nine. That's right,
(01:24:49):
I didn't have foul tips behind home play count stays
at two and two. Aggie don Telly is calling the
balls and strikes. El Steiner's at first, Bob Inglis second,
and Dick Stello at third base. No win whatsoever at
(01:25:09):
forbes Field to night, a great deal of rain the
satinoon in Pittsburgh and a slight rain fall here tonight.
That's when it's bounced in front of the plate. Brand
is in far. Can he make a play? Yes? In time,
and that was a close one, mister hustle of the
ex balls. Ronnie Brand charged out after that high chopper
(01:25:32):
feeled the ball and potted over the tag line just
in time to get Bob Moons. Here's Mighty Elou Mighty
grounded out second the first and the verse inning and
flied out to the left field in the third follow
out actually to Mac Jones and deep left field just
(01:25:53):
across the foul line. Here's the first pay to Mattie.
At times a bunt holds up blow outside bits for
ball one. This is a pictures paradise forbes Field. Boy,
are the distances they measure them in light years. Maddy
(01:26:16):
popped this one in the eight of short left field,
moving over close to fall line as Jones he's got it,
cand of lose out. We're I'm gonna let this season
end now without hearing from yourself and from Ted Blackman
about the little contest that the two of you had
going for this season, and I'm gonna let you tell
the fans about it. Is that the weight that's right, Rush,
(01:26:38):
I've been keeping Frank, and I want to announce the
results tonight. Neither of us made it under two hundred
pounds by the one hundred and sixty seven game, So
the bottom of Napoleon Brandy is held over the next year.
Oh boy, I forgot all about that one the pits.
Dave Cash is into the dirt. Yes, at the start
(01:27:05):
of the season, Ted Blackman job and start right field,
Barry and center and Jones and left. This is fall
out of play the upper deck at Forbes Field. Two
balls and two strike. Here's the two two fold again
(01:27:35):
against the screen, rolls right up the netting and takes
the long roll back onto the field to be out
of two balls and two stray. Most not a hitting pitcher.
He's four for forty nine. That's right foul ten behind
(01:28:00):
home play count stays at two and two. Aggy Donna
Telly is calling the ball and strikes mel Steiners at first,
Bob Ingle at second, and Dick Stello at third base.
No win whatsoever at Forbes Field to night, a great
deal of rain. The sasinoon in Pittsburgh and a light
(01:28:21):
rain fall here tonight. This one is bouncing front of
the plate. Brand is in far. Can he make a play? Yes?
In time? And that was the close one, mister hustle
of the ex balls. Ronnie Brand charged out after that,
Hi chopper feet of the ball and potted over the
tag line just in time to get Bob Moose. Here's
(01:28:46):
mighty Alou. Maddy grounded out second to first the verse
inning and flied out to left field in the third
follow out actually to Mac Jones and deep left field
just across the foul line. Here's the first pitch to
Mattie attempts the bunt holds up low outside pits for
(01:29:07):
baull One. This is a pictures paradise barbes Field. Boy,
are the distances they measure them in light years. Maddy
popped this one in the eight of short left field,
moving over close to fall line as Jones He's got
it handle those out. I'm gonna let this season end
(01:29:30):
without hearing from yourself and from Ted Blackman about the
little contest that the two of you had going for
this season. And I'm gonna let you tell the fans
about it. Is that the weight conduct. That's right, Rust,
I've been keeping Frank, and I want to announce the
results tonight. Neither of us made it under two hundred
town by the one hundred and sixty seven game, so
the bottle of Napoleon brandy is held over the next year.
(01:29:55):
Oh boy, I forgot all about that one the fifth
day gashes into the dirt. Yes. At the start of
the season, Ted Blackman and yours truly have a little
wager going first, one down at two hundred round collects
(01:30:21):
the Napoleon branding heart it ball deep canner field. Ferry
has to go back for can't he get to it? Yes?
One at a catch, Night's running catch by Jim Ferry
in deep better field, and it's three up, three down
for the Pirates. No run, no hits, no where, nobody
left on the scorer. After five innings, is still the
(01:30:42):
exposed one the Pirates won. Jacques who said, of La
Press baseball writers covered the exposed all season long, Jack,
I know he's putting you on the spot because there
are many highlights in a one hundred and sixty two
game schedule. But to you to answer quickly, what would
have to be the highlight? Of the year. I think
there were two.
Speaker 13 (01:31:00):
Dave first the know It heard by Phil Stoneman and Philadelphia,
and again in the same ballpark when Gary was Lusky
faced only twenty seven men, throwing a near perfect game
facing only twenty seven men. I think those two games
has to be the highlight in my book.
Speaker 1 (01:31:16):
There were two terrific games. There's something special about opening
they both on the road when we opened the Chase
Stadium and of course at Jerry Park. There were two
great days we we'll never forget. But as far as
team performance and individual performance, I think I'd have to
agree with it.
Speaker 2 (01:31:30):
You're right, it's a shame we did so well.
Speaker 1 (01:31:31):
In Connie Mack Stadium. They're gonna tear it down. Yeah,
and well we can also go back to here in Forestfield.
Speaker 13 (01:31:40):
We didn't do that good and they're gonna tear it
down too, So maybe it will compensate.
Speaker 1 (01:31:51):
Py x balls in the top half of a sixth inning.
We'll be looking at Jim Ferry, Rossie stop and Mac
John So sad Blackman. I guess it was an exciting
year for you, and it was for you too, right.
I think you and Dave N. Horne did a terrific
job this year. I know I've heard many comments from
the people back in Montreal, so you brought the ball
games right into their homes. All the excitement all down
(01:32:14):
low for ball one. Thanks very much, Ted, and the
course of this sounds like the mutual Admiration Society and
full blooms. But of course bonery owners everywhere regard Callum
with a great deal of pleasure. There's a line, single
aloud feel for Jim Ferry his second hit of the night.
It's also been a pleasure traveling on the road with
you and Dave. I know your table manners have improved
(01:32:35):
him into and along. About June fifteen, Steve stopped bringing
his Teddy beer on road trip. You want to play
that game, okay, mister flash. Here's Russy Stow with Jim
Ferry on first phase. Well that's to come up with
some Ted Lackman stories. How about the the boss in
(01:33:00):
Houston Bury the runner on first one for two, mister
stop sewn laws one ball in those strike and Rusty
(01:33:23):
assured of hitting over three hundred, finishing over three hundred,
would like to get number thirty though swings and missus
four strike one one on one that counted stopped Rushy
with twenty nine home run, seventy nine runs batted in
and hitting three two twenty minutes of thirst. Here's the
(01:33:47):
one wonder Rusty. It's uh File to the left side
of home plate, rolls over toward the steel box. Count
of one ball in two strike. If you hear the
boy in the background, it's for an ascendant here at
for field reached over and picked the ball up before
a youngster could get his hands on it. Here's the
(01:34:11):
one too. Lyon drives single a rife field by Rusty
stop his second hit of the night. Ferry makes a
turn a second. He's going to third. Here's a throw
by then he thinks the balls up by Hapner. Stuff
goes on a second that is scoring as a single
by Rusty Stove to right field. Perry gets third on
(01:34:34):
the throw no air. The roll from Clemty to Ritchie
Habner was right on the money, but it took some
sort of a hop. Pita Hitabner in the chest and
right sip. It just hits the here's Mac expols on
(01:34:58):
him second and third. A great opportunity to let go
to go ahead. Ron Mac swings and missus for strike one.
So Ferries at third went all the way to third
on the single by Rusty stop and on the floor
the third stopped took second time has caught us. Ferry
(01:35:23):
is sitting down on third base, emptying some of the
dirt from his shoe, lacing it up. I guess when
Jim went in on a cloud of dirt dust at
third base, his shoe took a healthy serving. How that
dirt around third base? Now he's all set, all one
(01:35:46):
account on Mac John most of the levers. Mac checked
the swing. It's low for ball one count of one
and one. Jones hitting it even two seventy starting out tonight,
but Mac is over two, struck out in the first
and found into a feelers choice in the far here's
the one one that's foul behind home play account of
one and two night Llo Mac can come through with
(01:36:12):
a base hit here mister Berriel from in the scar
and excellent chance on Rusty coming in from second the
one two outside two and through the count. Get a
message of that show. So everyone extremely happy for le
grand Range finishing with a three hundred season. Over three
(01:36:34):
hundred and that betters his mark of last year hit
two ninety one. The next one of Mac is high
for ball three full count John with nobody else runners
on second and third. A one all time between the
Pirates and the exposed final game of a nineteen sixty
(01:36:55):
nine season. Here's a three two outside. Jones is up
with a walk the base lotus or Mac was really
bearing down to Russ. Mack wanted to get a hit then,
probably more than any time I've seen him at the
plate in the last couple of games, because you could
tell the way he was digging in and saying over
that plate. He really wanted to hit. And he was
not swinging at the bad pitches that he's been striking
(01:37:18):
out on some lately. Mack was not over anxious. He
was trying to wait for his pitch. Because Moose made
a couple of pitches the last two, in particular to
Mac that our pitches. Mac will normally go after that
fastball up around the eyes. A lot of times he'll
be going after that, and Mac let it go. Really
wanted to get that hit and drive in some runs here.
And of course we've mentioned that Mac and Rust here
(01:37:39):
right behind Coco and that RBI lead and here there
on the last day. Of course, they both like to
get everything they can. keV Collins comes up with the bases. Lord,
there was a brief delay as Alex Gravis right out
to talk to pitcher Bopo's here's the first pitch to Collins.
It's popped into the air behind Haul played. I believe
it's out of play, out of argue anyway, Yeah, bounds
(01:38:00):
into the sea, boy Collins, guys, I went a mile
high and went completely out of you and the counts
and one basis, Lord, it nobody out in the top
(01:38:20):
half of the sixth in the pitch swung on and
fall tipped into the catcher's men and moses out in
front of Colins on two. Kevin's off for two. He
grounded out in the first inning, was safe on an
air in the fourth outside. He checked the swing on it,
one and two the ball and two strikes and keV
(01:38:44):
Collins hop field straight away on Kevin. Kevin's got good power.
He can hit the left field, a good opposite field hitter,
and of course he can also pull the ball. Here's
the one two outside for ball two. Manny Sanghi in
calls time runs out of the mount of talk of
Bob Moose, Dave. What was the big thrill for you
in nineteen sixty nine, there were many russ Really, I
(01:39:07):
would go along with the Jack Dussett, he and I
were talking a while ago. I think Bill Stollman's no hitter.
I think the fine ball game that Gary was Lusky
pitch there. The one hitter opening day though at Chase Stadium,
and opening day at Jerry Park would have to take
presidence even over those two outstanding individual performances. To me,
they were the two big thrills of the season. The
(01:39:28):
Shay Stadium game in the Jerry Park game. Here's the
two to two. It popped into the air to the
left side. Kepner moving over to the stands. Can he
get to it? Yes he does, He holds it, reaching
into the box seats. Ritchie Heavener bull down that long
foul pop from keV Colin one away. I'll tell you Dave's.
(01:39:53):
The big thrill for me was April eighth at Chase
Stadium in New York, just after Maureene Forrester saying CA
one of the national anthem, and just before we did
the play by play, You turned to me and I
turned to you, and we shook his and wished one
another the best for this year. We realized that we
were in the big league. That was a big moment
for me down low to the ball one see first
(01:40:18):
big moment, and then of course many others after that,
sure we're And the one that perhaps is freshest in
my mind was closing day at Jerry Park on Sunday
to see the fans come out and have the time
that they had, fount of the right side on the ground,
count of one ball in one strike and yes for
the fans, a month for y'all, no question about it.
(01:40:40):
Opening Day and closing day two of the truly great
days at Jerry Park. Those closing ceremonies are really something
to give you a just a moment. Right after this
next pitch lion drive left field base. It here comes
Jim Perry and the scar Tom is making the terrible
fight for home and he out a mile. Lusty was
(01:41:03):
us by a mile as he made the turn. That
player and a fine thraw from the upfield a man
he sang in on one hop God Rusty stop with
the expouse of taking him two to one lead on
that runs going single by Tywine mac Jones held up
at second base. Fine throw by Willie Stagel gets russy
(01:41:33):
stop trying to score from second base seven to two
on your scorecards, but Perry's in the score exposly this
game to the one. Here's a pitcher, Ronnie Branny popped
it into the air, fall out of play, low and
(01:41:54):
run on wrong brand. So Ti Line gets this hit
and knocked in the go ahead run. US hired a
brand for ball one. Dave I wanted to say, with
(01:42:14):
a crowd of over twenty three thousand, you'd think when
the final out was made on Sunday, that would be
impossible to get out of the ballpark. Bright of mine
said he got into his card, drove out with gees
since the fan stayed for the ceremonies. You don't see
that very often in the sporting event. It's filed up
to the upper deck. Counts one and two, one ball
and two strikes. I know it was a big moment
(01:42:38):
for Jeane Mark xpos fire brand manager, a hard nosed
individual at times was a little bit of a saftie.
In his speech, Jane almost choked up the one too.
Brand loses his bat and filed at the left side.
(01:43:00):
They batched State in fall in fair territory. The ball
in fall territory. One ball and two strikes on ron
Brand with two out top of the six dex supposed
lead this game two to one, lob Deal. The left
hander has been warming up for quite a while in
the Pirate bullpen. John's on second line on first the
(01:43:24):
fifty Brand is top fall at a play count stays
at one and two and running Brand Brand hitting two
fifty eight. You know, Letta, here's the one two mine
(01:43:50):
drive right to Pawtack. Fine big guy by the short stop.
What's the second base to the four pottack moving quickly
to his life, Ronnie Brand of a base hit. But
I'm and that's did for the Xbos picked up one
run on threeheads, no errors. Two men were left after
(01:44:11):
five and a half innings. The score x posed two,
Pirate one. He said, oh, well, there's another game that
was just checking through the book here that stands out
in Gene Mark's mind is one of the big games
of the year. And we're talking to Gane about this
Sunday and he was truly moved by the fans reaction
(01:44:33):
on Sunday, our final game of the year at Jerry Park.
But just prior to the start of that game, Jean said,
along with Opening Day both the Chase Stadium and at
Jerry Park. He said, there's one day that really stands
out in my mind. And he said, maybe it was
a big day more to me than to anybody else,
(01:44:54):
although it meant a great deal of relief to a
lot of other people. He said, it was a big
thrill for me. And he said that was the break
that twenty game losing streak when Jerry Robertson beat the
Los Angeles Dodgers four to three on the eighth of June,
and that, Jean says, we'll stand out in his mind
for a long time, is one of the big games
of the year. From seventh zero sero. Now the official
(01:45:18):
paid attendance is in twenty seven hundred. That's it an
even figure here, two thousand, seven hundred at Forbesfield in Pittsburgh.
The Exposed lead two to one. As we go to
the bottom of the sixth, Russ saverto Committee's one for one.
He walking the first and single in the third. Dave
Is just mentioned that Gene Monk one of his big
(01:45:40):
frills this year. The biggest moment for him personally was
when the ex both broke out of their twenty game
losing streak June eighth in Los Angeles. First Pitts Roberta
was taken for a call strike. Dave. I remember going
down to the club house to talk to Gene Mack
and I asked him, said, Jane, how do you feel
now that you've broke in the streak, And he says,
I feel like a man who was a very bad
heaven ve drive right field base. It had covered two
(01:46:06):
for Clavetty. He lands that one past second base in
the right field, and so all the Pirates are out
of the gains. Here In the sixth and eighth Batty
to run around first Doge Labatter. Willie's over too struck
out in the first flight out to the left field.
In the third, Stargel was love so dearly to hit
(01:46:27):
the thirty home run mark, and he has twenty nine,
same number as Rusty Stub. Robertson's first pitch and there
a high fly ball deep right field. Can stop get
to it. He's on the warning track. He's got it.
(01:46:47):
Rusty Stub went almost three hundred and seventy five feet
away to pull that long one hit by Willie Stadgel
at dodgele bullet No. Question about it. That would have
been out of here, and that Bob and hit at
Jerry Park, it would have been home run number thirty.
But this is Forbes Field in Pittsburgh. Three seventy five
to right field, three sixty five to left field, four
(01:47:10):
hundred and fifty seven feet to center field. This is
a tough ballpark and which to hit home run. Willie
Stargell has hit more on the road than he has
at home long fly, all big out. Bob Robertson takes
the pitch from Jerry Robertson down low football one one out.
(01:47:34):
Robertson was called oulam strikes in the fourth. Al Oliver
started at first base for the Pirates. Oliver at round
one thousand and second inning. Robertson came into the ball
game in the fourth. The next one is taking on
the outside corner for a call strike one ball in
one strike. Let's take ten seconds for station and Oni vacation.
(01:47:55):
This is the x fol Baseball radio network.
Speaker 10 (01:47:58):
This is the home of x SPOW Baseball in the
Capitol District.
Speaker 1 (01:48:02):
W h r L in Albany, New York counted one
ball and one strike on Bob Robertson, Jerry Robertson took
his foot from the rubber the checking Clementy at first base.
Fitch line drive left field. We'll drop in there as
(01:48:22):
a base test, but then he will hold up at
second base. We've got fires on person in second with
one out in the bottom half of the sixth and eight,
Bob Robertson lines one in the left field. No activity
as yet in the exposed bullpen. Here's many ten guns.
(01:48:43):
Manny is over two. He struck out in the second
and grounded out the tie line in the fourth. Manny
hitting three oh one. He was tied with stop coming
in as a knifeball game ten spot in the batting range.
I feel a deef on Sangyi and shifted over slightly
(01:49:05):
to the last. Manny takes the first one high and
out side for ball one out of town at three
to one for Atlanta over Cincinnati. In the bottom half
of the fifty eight. The next pitch is taken for
(01:49:25):
a call, strike count of one and one on sang Yan.
Saint Louis LEDs. Philadelphia wanted nothings bottom half of the third.
This ball game means a lot to the Pirates. Now
they've placed at least of time for third. If the
Pirates lose the Cards win, then there's a two way
tie for third, Bob, and they'll have to share third
place money. There's no money for fourth place finishers. It's
(01:49:49):
low two and one the count on many Sangyan. So
you better believe the Pirates want to win this one.
You want to win every game, of course, with this
one is an important one. It means a little over
four hundred dollars each for each player if the team
finishes all alone in third place, A many long lead
(01:50:13):
our second. Here's the two to one. It's high down
of three and one. Now we've got activity in the
ex bos boll fan garys Luski and clowes him home.
A pair of weight henders warming up. Robertson looks down
(01:50:34):
at brand shakes office side. Now gets thewenty one and
delivers the three one and Gain pops it up into
the air, fall and out of play. Brian chased it
all the way over to the Pirate dugout. It's gone
no further. The ball dropped in about five rows up.
Whole count on Manni Sangin. Then is here twenty seven hundred.
(01:51:01):
Even so, that's the final game of the season. The
count of three and two on Sangin, And here's the
pitch file the gain out of play way upstairs, three
(01:51:24):
and two of the count on San Gen two to
one exposed over the pirates. In the bottom half of
the sixth inning, here's a three to two again, sang
(01:51:45):
Gin hits the file of on the left side on
the ground. I go, you'll have a count of three
and two, David. I think one of the funniest is
it is this year was the fiddler on the roof
at Terry Park. I remember one cold day in May
in April one fan get up and stripped down of
the waist and I'm sure they must have parted him
(01:52:07):
off the hospital later. How he could possibly stand it?
Bear chested there, Jerry Parking was quite cool. Bought a
first and Bob Robertson's back clement he held at second
base one out runners on first and second. Then, of
course the night of the goose Man with a live
(01:52:29):
goose or was it a duck fin live better field
bays Hi. Tonight he comes without a scar. The ball
game is all tied up in two all Coletti comes
in a scar. Robertson goes down a second Sanie is
(01:52:52):
on first, one out, two on, and the matter will
be rich Epner. Hepner's already had a hit, had an
infield hit in the fourth Inna to extend his headache
straight to ten games. Left hand batter rich Hepner, God's
(01:53:17):
feel has shifted over to the right. On Hepner first
pitch flung on and miss strike wand that hit by
it Dan Gain the seventh for the Pirates Expos. I
had six up. Bob Moons Robertson takes a long lead
(01:53:45):
off the bag a second now, it turns around and
peaks at Bobby Wine. See just where Bobby is. Bobby
is taking over a bit blown outside of Heavener won
and won the count. Here's the one one. It's high
(01:54:13):
for ball to day. You asked all the players what
they're gonna do in the off season. What are your plans?
You're gonna stay at Montreal? That's right. I just sleep
for you and I Rus. It's really about the same. Uh.
Little time off here and then right back to work
for the Expos in the off season. I'm here's the two.
(01:54:35):
One swung down, I missed first strike two. I'll tell
you something for me. It's going me a great pleasure
for me personally to get out to the Auto stat
of Sunday and see the Alouettes against the Calgary Stampeders.
Haven't had a chance to see the Awls this year
with working on the baseball broadcast, so all we'll be
(01:54:55):
out there Sunday at the Auto Stat to here for
coach Kate Dalton and the big Red team. Boy, they've
been playing some exciting football lately. Here's a two to
two line drive right field base hit. Here comes Robertson,
a round a score. The player please this ball game?
Three to two. That's the fourth hit, Bob, Jerry Robertson.
(01:55:21):
Here in the sixth inning, a line drive single to
life field. Bob Robertson came on a score. Then he
had moved around a third and Renchie Headner has the
second hit of the night Runners on first and third.
And here's Gene mind I believe that will be all
(01:55:43):
for Jerry Robertson. Jerry Robertson. Robinson has pitched five and
one third innings a hwish kaker. He is giving up
three runs, a total of eight hits. We walked only
(01:56:05):
one better and he struck out a total of four
Tobilly looking at clothes ramon the pride and joy of
de ja quebec rous. We just found out why al
Oliver was removed from the ballgame. And of course you
(01:56:27):
go through the season and you get them all. And
this was another strange when al Oliver was taken out
of the ballgame. He fortunately is all right, but he
was rushed to the hospital with food poisoning. And so
that's why al Oliver was taken out of the ballgame
in that third inning. But the report we just received
(01:56:48):
this word. We didn't know why. We knew earlier they
had called for a doctor to the Pirates clubhouse, but
we didn't know the reason for that. So they've made
the announcement just now. At any rate, al Oliver was
taken to the hospital and it was treated for food poisoning.
They say is condition now is good. Love Raymond coming
(01:57:10):
on the pitch for the Expost in the sixth innings.
Raymoll is making his forty eighth appearance this year, his
fifteenth with the Xpos. All his pits the total of
sixty nine and two thirds innings, has won and lost
record of three and four with the Expos one and
(01:57:30):
two and with the Atlanta Braves two and two. Boz
Era four point nine to zero, chocked up twenty five
strike guests in the sixty nine and two thirds innings.
He's worked Andy and he's logged a couple of saves,
(01:57:56):
two of the Braves and one with the expos. Here's
Freddy Pottag first find of face Raymond. First pitch is
outside of law football one. Pottag had a single as
a third inning, moved the second on the sacrifice and
scored the Pirates first run of a single by Dave
(01:58:17):
Cash in the third inning. Daughter first that joll moving
a dolphin happener, he was close to the bag, then
Gee's runner on third. Anything to be one of all
is one on investor strike one one on one, and
this fellow Claud Raymond will be very busy in the
(01:58:37):
off season. Thursday, Mom was baseball fans around my bell.
Pulvanis to Quebec, very popular figure in his native problem
one and one on PoTA bought in his tenth year
(01:58:59):
of Major league baseball. Off caught the first again and
Keviner was close to the bags first. Here's the one
one going away for four two. I feel not too
(01:59:21):
deep on project. I'm playing them for power well, Freddy,
because it's five home runs this year. I believe he
has free of them here in forbes Field, and that's
quite an achievement for such a little fellow, because it's
a long way to left field. Preached sixty five down
the line, quarrel six to the power alley. Hi. There
(01:59:41):
they got the thank gin in the rundown Bryan the Collins,
they got him a Plaine play on the pitch shot,
a beautiful call by Ronnie Brand on the pitch out,
and they tasted SANGI in in the rundowns to the
five and the boy. That's a fig out the pitch out,
(02:00:02):
of course fall by manager Gene Mock. But Ronnie Brand
and Paul Raymond executed that finch out to perfection anything
as figure bon Jack has a count of two and
two two outs. Heavener went down a second on the
(02:00:25):
player the two two swung out, I missed quite three.
Paul Raymond does the job here. In the sixth inning,
the Fire picked up two runs on forehead no Ac
four airs and one man was left on base the goal.
After sixth inning, as Pittsburgh three exposed to go get
(02:00:50):
up to date now on the baseball scoreboard. First of all,
in the American League, Kansas City and California scoreless at
the end of five, and in the only other game
for tonight on the East Coast, Cleveland and New York,
they were rained out. There is one West Coast game
starting later on Oakland at Seattle. This afternoon, Minnesota Beach
(02:01:10):
Chicago six to five over in the National League. Now
Atlanta scored three times in that third inning and they're
holding up a three to one lead after five and
a half. The Braves batting in the bottom of the
sixth down at Atlanta. They'll of course be opening up
with the playoff series Saturday against the Mets at Atlanta Stadium.
Saint Louis won Philadelphia nothing after three and a half
(02:01:31):
innings at Saint Louis. That brings us up to date
on the scoreboard with the exception. This afternoons scores Padres
beat the Giants three two as they wound it up
Kirby the winner, Roberts and the loser. And it was
Chicago over New York five to three. Deck of the
winner Caldwell. The losers Satawan Banks Homeward. Here are the
(02:01:51):
totals after sixth inning parts three runs and they hit
in one air the ex boss two runs on sixth
hit at no. Aheer and for the play by play
of the seventh and ain't very happy to turn the
biket boat over. And all of the best boys that
a baseball bop prints of the Pirates rush, thank you
very much, and we're delighted to be here. And I
have you all aboard too, because not because we're winning
(02:02:14):
at this time by a score of three to two,
but basically because Hugh Folks and Kennedy have been so
kind that everybody involved with the Pittsburgh Baseball Club, and
I'm sure everybody else, we have a little bit of
a switch going on right here. And count his no
balls and two strikes, Bobby one channing in Moose, send
(02:02:36):
him a little bit of a slider. Bobby Moose has
been working a knuckleball. He's only twenty one years of age,
and he's been trying to work that knuckler which he
used to show the batters early this year, and now
he's throwing it for strikes, no balls, two strikes, another
(02:02:58):
foul off to the left balls too strikes. We'll tite
his to the buck. Bobby Wine struck out, bounced out
to third, parks in front. By the score of three
to two. This is a big game for them. Of
course they want to try to finishing third of swinging
a mess off that slider, and Bobby Wine is down.
(02:03:21):
Bobby Moose has picked up his seventh strikeout. One of
the things about Bob Moose he has come out of
the bullpen sixteen times and has not surrendered to run
a home run of any kind, and of course therefore
not a run. And he's picked up about eleven saves
in addition to that. Since he came on to become
a starting pitcher, he has worked his record up to
(02:03:44):
thirteen and three twenty one years of age. Pitches inside
ball one. Bob Bailey up there, batting right now, batting
in place of Cheerry Robertson rather Claude Raymond than for
(02:04:06):
a strike, and the count is one and one. One
ball and one strike. To beats you, baby, as he's
going here in the Pittsburgh area. Ball and strike one.
Here's the pitch and a swing and a pout of
the plate off to the right side, and the count
holds at one and two. Well, then I'll say one thing.
(02:04:26):
We've taken a look at the buck scores and the
course beyond that, the attendance figures Montreal has really been fantastic.
Call out has gone a few clubs has been beautiful.
Here's the pitch and a swing Innimacy struck him out
on the sinker, and that is strikeout number eight. Bob.
Do you what do you feel the new stadium is
(02:04:47):
gonna do for your attendance? I would have to hope, man,
that is gonna raise the attendance by say thirty five percent,
is going to be fifty to fifty five thousand sea
stadium without a pillar in it. There's only one problem
when they must be most honest. Once it's built, and
they assume that it will be completed by about April
or May, there'll be no way to get to it
(02:05:08):
except by a river. The roads will not be destructed.
And I can't light you just no way it's going
to be constructed. For one reason. They have a strike
going on in our country here on heavy construction, and
nobody's going to be able to build any roads. Now,
if you have a helicopter drop going that you can
(02:05:30):
think of it to be great I'm sure we'll try it.
Two balls and those strikes. The matter is Marv Steady.
He's in with a double and a run scored and
three at bats and incomes a strike in the count's
two and on Pirates lead. You're in Montreal exposed by
the score three two. We are in the seventh and
Pittsburgh a most important ballgame in there for a strike
(02:05:52):
on a slider and the count is two and two.
Father was going to ask what does this game mean
to each player individually as far as money goes, say
four or five hundred dollars apiece if they can win
this one, that makes no difference about what the Cardinals do.
As of now they're leading one to nothing. It'll be
four or five hundred dollars a man. But I think
more important is the fact that they will have proved
(02:06:14):
of themselves that they are just about ready to make
a big move and they haven't been that far out
of the race, and in fact, they've done a lot
to keep the race close. The ball inside the Marv
and he's on walk number two from body Moose, and
that'll bring up Jim Ferry, who is two for three,
drove in the runs and then single AND's quarter a
(02:06:36):
run pop? Is it truous? Is it true that you
want power pulled off? The tremendous dive out of a
hotel room window into a pool? How tell us? But
I don't know how tremendous it was. And Russ, I
did dive out of the third floor of the Chase Hotel,
which they measured to be ninety feet up, twelve feet
out and in between the three meter board in the
(02:06:57):
side of the pool, which is four feet in distance.
You hit the pool. I hit the pool. That's why
I'm still here talking to you. I don't know how
marveled as it was, but I'll have to say it
was one of the most rocketed things.
Speaker 11 (02:07:07):
Ever it is.
Speaker 1 (02:07:12):
I'll never do it again. I'll tell you that in
the first trick, better guy twenty bucks, I could do it,
and the guy never even paid me. Tub balls one
strike to Jim Perry Farmer Dodger arts in front free
two seventh inning and the pictures of sinking delivery low
(02:07:34):
for the ball one and one. I understand, uh man, Russ,
that you're going to be carrying the playoff games. And
I'm going to be delighted, of course, to be one
of the broadcasters starting up next Saturday out of Atlanta,
and I just will be delighted to do whatever I
can up there. There's a shopper down toward Cash. He's up,
pops it on the pot teck. The Force player on
(02:07:56):
stally occurs and the sides retired. No runs, no hits,
no errors of man left well. Go to the bottom
of the seventh and the Pittsburgh Pirates three Montreal two.
Take a quick look at the scoreboard here in that
Atlanta Cincinnati ball game three one, the Braves have the reds.
They've finished six now down in Atlanta, California, and Kansas
City have gone five and a half. They're scoreless at
(02:08:18):
Kansas City, and Saint Louis is leading. Philadelphia won nothing
at the end of four now, And of course, here
in our ball game is a three to two Pirate
lead in the seventh midway. We'd like to mention the
fact that not only in Montreal, but also on many
of the other exposed Network stations, the playoff games will
(02:08:40):
be carried beginning this Saturday, the Atlanta Braves and the
New York mess at Atlanta Stadium, And of course it'll
be Bob Prince and Geene Nelson be working with Bob
all that series of ball games. First couple of games
in Atlanta, then they'll be moving into Shade Stadium for
whatever games are needed there. So that's this Saturday. On
(02:09:00):
most of these Expos Baseball Radio networkstations, this is Dave
Van Horne along with Russ Taylor and our special guest,
Bob Friends, the voice of the Pirates Midway and the
Seventh The Pirates leave three too. Bob, you just touched
on the playoffs getting on their way this weekend down
at Atlanta. I'll put you right on the spot. How
(02:09:22):
do you see it Atlanta with all that power or
the Mets with that great young pitching man. I'll tell
you this very frankly, as I recall reading out of
the twelve meetings between Atlanta and the New York Mets.
New York one hated the twelve right, but they have
not met due to division play since the tenth of August.
(02:09:45):
And since the tenth of August, I might add the
doc Gun Atlanta Braves have been some kind of fearful
again down to Atlanta. I'll put you right on the spot.
How do you see it Atlanta with all that power
the Mets with great young pitches. Man, I'll tell you
this very frankly, as I recall reading out of the
(02:10:07):
twelve meetings between Atlanta and the New York Mets, New
York one eight of the twelve. But they have not
met due to division play since the tenth of August,
and since the tenth of August, I might add the
Doc Gun Atlanta Braves have been some kind of fearful.
I would have to say, pitching, of course, is the
(02:10:28):
name of the game, but breaks could occur in a
very short series. There's no way you can say the Mets,
man for man, are as good as the Atlanta Braids.
That is the third, first, second, well, you just can't
say that. And when you talk about sever and goods,
when you're talking of about two great pitches, but at
the same time they're going to throw a negro and
(02:10:50):
read in company, it would seem that the Atlanta Braids
should have the edge. And it's quite possible that you
will see a world series between Atlanta and of course Minnesota.
Foul ball off the right by Bobby Moose and the
count now is one on one. Man, I think you
could see a world series between Atlanta and the Minnesota Twins,
(02:11:15):
both of whom would have won less games than the
two teams that after one hundred and sixty two games
made it just the thing that some of the critics
of the divisional play we're talking about. But how have
you felt about it, Bob, We've been real enthused about it. Well,
I have to. I think it's great, and I'm not
trying to be a shield for you people up there
in Montreal. I just think it's fantastic. You're out drawing us,
(02:11:37):
and will I draw us by We're going to be
about seven hundred and semi thousands of the year one
and two five ball back by Bobby Moose Pirates leading
three to two here in the seventh. I just think
it's great at Park Cherie and the folks in Montreal,
that they have drawn the way they have drawn. There's
no question in my mind that this is a great
baseball city and it's a great branch and all you
(02:12:00):
got to do is just sit tight and hold on
a little bit and the next thing you know, see
you later. Now, there's a kid that hit a fly
ball to left field and Mac Jones gave it a
Rico Carti one hand, Paul seemed to take off on
Mac and he grabbed it and mooses out. No, We've
enjoyed tremendously the hospitality of Montreal, and I've tried to
(02:12:21):
use both names up there. I know about everything I've
called at moley Al and I've called it Montreal. And
I get all the heck down here in Pittsburgh for
the way I've said it Van, but I'll anglicize it
as a loo swings into one. Here's a young man
up here right now, many a lou who never before
ever had the chance to get enough or bad enough
(02:12:42):
to get two hundred pits some more. He's had two
hundred and twenty five base hits. He's number three all
time in the history of the Pittsburgh Pirates and only
second to Paul Winner and Lloyd Winner. And he's now
a bat at six hundred and ninety five times. And
this one right here will set the all time world
(02:13:03):
record in baseball if he doesn't get a base on
balls for the most appearances at the plate officially, so
we have a one ball, one strike hand. Gary was
Luski on the hill in relief for Raymond, who in
turn relieved Robertson the pittures inside, two balls in a strike.
Knowing Mattie alu man, I don't think for both you
(02:13:25):
and rust and he'll allow a walk. I think he'll
swing anything under the plate, even there's a swinging drive
down the right feel line, foul upper deck in the
counts two and two. He's a fantastic hitter. Of course,
all of the superlatives have been used to describe Maddy.
A louver but quite an exciting ball player. He can
reach anywhere and get that ball doesn't have to be
in the strike zone. He can hit it well, he
(02:13:47):
surely can. He's a fantastic hitter. Two balls, two stacks.
Here's the pitch and a swing and a bouncing fowl.
Why the first ty Klan doesn't even get a shot
at John Leopard the fired coach picked it up. I
just really do believe, and I could only hope. I
haven't seen the National League schedule for next year. Would
love to come to Montreal me. I hope and pray
(02:14:09):
that we don't open with it, so I'll have to
bring here him up. I just can't stand full weather
until like say May or June, bouncing ball up of
it'll base this Maddy out with a base hit, and
it's set the world record. And I think you'll wait
to see that baseball handed them and you'll lost. So
(02:14:29):
hear the announcement in the background. Face that and a
world record for the most times at back six hundred
and nineteen seven, or rather six hundred and ninety six.
I guess they're gonna announce it. If they don't, somebody's
overlooked on me. Man and Rush. That's right, I didn't
(02:14:54):
catch it on the bea Woody Jensen, a former pirate.
Here comes, here's Dave Cash takes it inside. This young
man looks like the air apparent at second base. By
the way, Dave Cash, he's a great hitter. He can
feel like the Dickens. And with Nazaraski running his string
(02:15:16):
and Hallie hurt, this young man looks like the boy
that'll be second baseman for the Pirate, and thus ends
a great era in Bill Mazaruski. I was just gonna say,
and not just in Bill Mazaraski, but in probably one
of the greatest all time short second combinations of Alley
in Mazaraski. I don't think that be any argument about
(02:15:37):
that one ball, one strike to picture it on the
inside corner for a strike. It's one and two, which
snap throw by Ronnie Brand down the first base. The
runner haw Louis said they haven't an acid yet, but
they gave him the ball. He picks up a base
hit and he sets a world record for the most
times at bat officially. This eliminates, in other words, at
(02:16:00):
any time bases on, balls, hit bats and what have it.
This is appearances at the plate where it is official.
Swinging a foul beats it off the left side. Bob,
you got to be excited about all these youngsters like Hevner,
Oliver and Gee and Cash. Seeing guys like this come
(02:16:22):
along where the future has got to be bright, Well,
you would hope so. And certainly no question about it.
The Montreal Baseball club with their young men, I mean
with the young pictures. You have Cash swings, he strikes out.
When you looked at the young man whom we bets
last night or got him out of there, and you
(02:16:44):
see what they have going for them, There's no doubt
about it. Well, Montreal Baseball club is moving in the
right direction. But I think more than anything, and again
this with Beggar description, the fact that the folks at
Montfreal supports you, Bak, so the manner in which you
support them is almost ninety percent of the battle. All right,
(02:17:07):
here's Robett do Clemente. He is two too. Squatter run
swang drive rightfield, run above around third, around the second,
goes a little how many tries to go into second?
Rusty Stop fires a stick to the plate, throws a
little high, but nobody would move him. So we have
alot the third and Robett don Clemente has the devil Dave.
(02:17:33):
I want to say one thing. Blokes up at Montreal
that have been around baseball for a while, remember that
he was playing in the Dodger organization in your team
at that time. They tried to hide him, but we
drafted him, and without question, myrats picked up one of
the great players in baseball history. We're now going to
(02:17:58):
walk Wilver start. He's over three, but they're going to
walk him to go to Bobby Robertson. Marriage layed here
in Montreal Xpos by the score of three to two,
and we're in the seventh innings. The area of eis
whisky were working here now Froze ball Ford Wolver Wolver
(02:18:24):
Darnold Stargeles just draws an intentional walk. That's the second
giving up in the ball game tonight, first intentional and
the batter now is going to be Bibby Robertson, who
went in to re leaeve Al Oliver, who somehow or
other came up with food poison. And let's take ten
(02:18:44):
seconds for station identification. This is the Exposed Baseball Radio Network.
Speaker 10 (02:18:49):
This is the home of Expo Baseball in the Capital
District w h r L in Albany, New York.
Speaker 1 (02:19:02):
All right, Bobby Robertson, he's up, powerhouse boy. He singled
in the sixth and in came around to score the
run by which the Pirates now lead. He takes it
hind inside up the fastball from was Lusky and it's
one ball and no stikes. Bases loaded, one out. We're
in the bottom of the seventh inning here at Forbesfield,
(02:19:24):
one of the world's most historic baseball parks were at
Jerry Robertson. He went five and two thirds. He's the
pitcher of record than Claude Raymall Now Garry Wiseluski. Robertson
takes a low slider for a ball. It's two and old.
During forty.
Speaker 5 (02:19:46):
Row as well.
Speaker 1 (02:19:49):
Three art we will we will put Rove talk Fromente
has raised his average to three forty six, two percentage
points behind Pete Rose, who went in at three forty eight.
Paul three. Now the Reds are playing Atlanta in Atlanta,
(02:20:11):
where the Braves lead three to one at the end
of six. Now the question remains, what has Pete Rose done?
If he gets the collar, Roberto Clemente will be the
National League batting champion. But if he get the collar,
that'll be something strike is called fore long. So we'll
just turn the trick to I believe Bob that third
(02:20:32):
hit tonight, I think it was a deciding factor, wasn't yes?
That put him up at three four sessions. The question,
of course will be what is Pete Rose doing in
Atlanta for the Reds? Three balls and the strike. We're
going to Atlanta tomorrow and we're going to have the
pleasure broadcasting the playoff Division championship teams and very happily
(02:20:54):
throughout your Canadian broadcasting network. Strike Now ball four Aton
balls to Rabbertson. That'll get him a run, battered in,
it'll bring in a loop and the parents will now
lead by the score of four to two here in
the seventh inning. You want the batter now is going
(02:21:18):
to be many some years. He struck out, bounced out
the first he singled the driving a run. I'll tell
you one thing. We've had the pleasure of having Russ
and Van on our air back around here and just
chatting with us and Jean Pierre Sarowe and John Paul Row.
(02:21:41):
There's a little brooking back blue back in the right
face hit shot, Ben's kind of scoring another coming around
five all runs the ball. Here comes another runner in
the rabbitson. He scares and I broke him back blots
the right and if they double fourth time and again
or else with the single and an air will await
(02:22:03):
to the taken. But fream war runs come in, well
call it a hit and an arrow, A rusty stipe
over running the ball in a shallow right field, a
broken back blue battle gives uh slam y in two
(02:22:26):
runs battled in and the third run Robertson will score
on the air and they're now going to walk. Richie Hepner,
you know Van Russ uh Ourman Hepner was battling year
(02:22:46):
Man Cocola boys for a Rookie of the Year, and
I think Coco's had a fine rookie year. He might
not win it. Heavener might not win it. Maybe Petty
Sizemore will take it off. But I think it's a
tribute to your management and your ball clubb and here
player the boy that he would be involved in all
this amount of time to be and be lucky. At
(02:23:07):
the hear on, I was gonna ask five, could you
ever remember where twenty nine thirty year old ballplayer was
involved in Rookie of the Year honners? I never have
a fellow with a great desire, and he's the only
other fellows might possibly have had it would have been,
say Mary Wells, and he didn't get it. And he
spent eight or nine years in the minor leagues and
came up at his age to do a file straight
(02:23:30):
back by Freddy Joe Potek two out. He's the ninth
man to get up. Three runs are in here and
the sending take it back. Four runs are in and
thus the Buckoes are in front by the score of four, six,
(02:23:51):
seven to two. Remind me next year when you all
come in in the broadcast, to get you a better book.
I mean, he just to be quite down the line
where you really are. Heck, you got to pick courier
right here. You can't even see this scoreboard. I apologize
to both of you. No balls, two strikes, are swinging
a mess. He struck him out and the side is retired.
(02:24:15):
So far the Pirates and the seventh inning four runs
and three hits. Amont feel there, and a couple of
left and at the end of seven innings the scar
is seven to two in favorite of Pittsburgh. All right, five,
before you run away, I just want to take an
opportunity to thank you. I know that both the stations
(02:24:37):
in Canada and our network stations in the northeastern United
States throughout the upstate New York, over in Vermont and
New Hampshire, they're all planning to carry the playoff games
starting is Saturday down at Atlanta. They'll be tuned in
to hear you and Gene bring all the action is
the two clubs of Mets and the Braves battle it
out for the pennant. And we'll wish you luck, hope
(02:24:57):
you enjoy that. It's going to put your vacation off
for a couple of more weeks. So Bob Man, well, yes,
but I'm most flattered and most thrilled having been selected
as one of the announcers to broadcast the First Division
playoff championships. I hope that I can match up whatever
happens on the field with the verbal linguistics it must
(02:25:19):
take place. Yes, I am thrilled. After twenty three years
in the game and a couple of World Series and
some All Star games, this is another top drill for me,
and I can only hope that I'll do the job
that'll make our Canadian friends happy with what goes on.
And just before I leave your microphone, I only wish
you and Russ just the best of a wonderful winner
(02:25:41):
and looking forward to seeing the all game next spring
when we play a little baseball in the spring and
then get ready for the summer activity and our thanks
again for your magnificent cooperation and your wonderful hospitality in
your most beautiful city of Montvial, Bob Prince, thank you
for those words the Voice of the Pirates by prints
you'll hear from Bob Year again on Saturday in the playoffs.
(02:26:01):
See you later, Bob. Rusty Styve leading off the eighth
is a high fly ball, aright going back for many.
He's there, one away, all the pirates steaming along with
a seven to two lead. Here in the eighth, Yeah,
here's Mac Jones and young Bob Moose on the mouth.
(02:26:28):
Allowed a run in the first one in the sixth
and pretty well handcuffed our hitters. Betch it's the outside
corner of Max strike one. The ball's one strike and
again our thanks to Bob Prince for coming down. Moose
deals swing and lime drive right past. Heavener is out
in the left field of base hit sty jell up
(02:26:49):
with the ball Max Driver two. Here comes a throw,
he sides and he is in there. Mac Jones doubles
the left and boy, he ripped that ball by Heavener.
Is a matter of fact, if you watch the flight
of that ball, is that when by Heavener rests. I
don't know if you had the same impression I did,
but it looked like it just pros Heavener. That ball
went by him and he still hadn't had his hands
(02:27:10):
off his knees. Mac murdered it. No question about that day.
There was a bullet drive. I don't blame Heavener for
freezing on the plane. Oh you sure don't seventh, hit
off Moose, and here is Kevin Collins. He's all for three,
got on on an air and the catcher Sangeean in
the port. He's grounded out and fouled out. Takes the
first pitch. Why ball? What? Moose at the belt? Checks
(02:27:33):
Mac at second. The pitch swinging a fowl, bounced off
to the right side. One ball in one's dright. There's
one out and Mac Jones in scoring position. The Pirates
leading seven to here. In the eighth, they had a
big four run uprising in the seventh. Moose at the belt,
(02:27:57):
the pitch cut on ball hit on the right side
of the infield. Cash stops it, throws to first and
Kevin is out. Mac moves to third. Four to three
if you're scoring by numbers, and that brings tie Kline
to the plate for the fourth time. Tie has won
for three with an RBI. Drove in a go ahead
(02:28:19):
run in a six. The Expos had a big chance
to get the Bob Moose in the six, but he
worked out of a jam after getting the bases loaded
with nobody out with one out, after k Collins was retired,
Tye drove in a run and that's all the Expos
could get a strike on tie oh and one, twenty
(02:28:44):
seven hundred. Here at forbes Field tonight, the bitch swinging
a miss strike two in our final game with the
nineteen sixty nine season, the Pirate trying to make it
two in a row and secure that third place for
a little money. Pitch is high and outside is sign
(02:29:06):
G and ball one, one ball, two strikes. Bob Moose
winds it up the pitch and it's down in the dirt.
Ball to two balls, two strikes. They've got bull pen
(02:29:27):
activity for the Pirates. Steve Blass. The right hander is throwing.
They got a left hander throwing down there, but I
can't tell. I can't see a number, and I can't
tell whether it's a pitcher just throwing easy. Here's the
(02:29:47):
two too. Bounce to the right side, cash up with
it close the first. That's all for Klein on the expose.
No runs, one hit, no air is one left at
the end of seven and a half at Portesfield, Pirates
seven expos too. While it was indeed of pleasure listening
to Bob Prince, the Pirate broadcaster in the game of
(02:30:09):
baseball for twenty three years, so Bob has certainly experienced
a lot of trills covering Major League baseball. I'm sure
his biggest, of course, or one of his biggest, had
to have been Mazarowski's home run off Ralph Terry in
the nineteen sixty World Series. I mentioned this too to
remind everyone that Mazarowski's The description of Mazarowski's home run
(02:30:30):
is contained in this record album, the Stereo Long Playing
Album Baseball the First one hundred Years. Also you hear
some excerpts out of a Colfax no hitter, Roger Morris's
sixty first home run, Bobby Ghetto's double in the nineteen
forty seven World Series, and Mickey Owens pass ball colors
seventeen strike ass and a lot of other great trills.
(02:30:55):
For a copy of the records and three dollars American
Fund three twenty five Canadian Fund checked money order to
Montreal Expos Baseball Centennial Album Box five hundred, Premier, Massachusetts.
Cal Simbera on a pitch for the X Boss in
the bottom half of the eighth inn. Pete Rose is
(02:31:17):
all for three so far in that ball game at Atlanta,
and our friend Roberto Clementi of the Pirates is three
for three boy, what an exciting finish this is to
the National Lake batting Race. Roberto can win the batting
crown tonight and that would be quite a steal from
(02:31:39):
Pete Rose. Rose leading of the three forty eight percentage
going into the ninth game for Matti hitting three forty two.
Hell the bottom of the eighth and the pitcher pop
moves will lead things off, to be followed by Matti,
Yelou and Dave Cash. Moose is all for two. The
(02:31:59):
sack revise at the plate. Here's Carol Sembara on the
pitch for the exposed. First pitch is a strike basketball
oh and one. So Gary wise Luski is through working
one inning, giving up four runs, three hits. He struck
(02:32:24):
out one make it two and let's see believe he
had three walks in that inning. He did. Carol Simberra
right adder tired another strike for row and two. The
waist pitch is outside one ball, two strikes. Pete Rose
(02:32:47):
at the moment batting three forty seven having gone zero
for three, so he is at three forty seven. Swing
and a miss. That's all for Moose. He's out and
that'll bring Matty Aloud to the plate one for four.
Have that historic at bat in the seven, So that
(02:33:11):
would put for Many to within one percentage point of
beat Rose at the moment. Now Rose goes over four,
his batting average will drop down a three forty six.
Here's a fowl coming back upper deck. Allan one is
(02:33:32):
account on Madi Yelou. So that battle for the National
League batting titles taking place right here. Here's a lin drive.
Flying dives can't get it. It's down the right field line.
Stop in the corner up of the ball. I'll loose
(02:33:53):
Diggs for two. The throw is not in time. He's
in there. Double for Matti Elou. That ball was just
fair over first phase his second head and with one
out a louse at second and the batter will be
Dave cash Lou who broke the major league record, but
(02:34:16):
most times at bat adds to it.
Speaker 11 (02:34:19):
Now possible.
Speaker 1 (02:34:25):
Six hundred and ninety eight at bats broke the record
by Forrest Woody Jensen, who was set in nineteen thirty
six of six hundred and ninety six. A loo now
with six hundred ninety eight. Here's the pitch to cash
Way outside ball won Carol Soonbarra on the mound at
(02:34:56):
the belt. He checks his runner. Here's the bitch, swung
on it over some bears had charging Staley, he has
it and drops it. Everybody's safe. It's gonna be scored
as a base hit for Cash on a chopper to
the right side of the enfield. O'lou goes to third,
and the Pirates have got runners at first and third
(02:35:18):
with one down in the batter. Ro Fertomy he is
three for three with a walk for Many, three for
three tonight, and right here this hat back to be
the batting title to the National League. The course, this
(02:35:39):
is all depending on what Pete Rose is doing in Atlanta,
and we're trying to keep up with that too. At
the moment, roses over three, and they tell us he
has probably one more at batcoming. The first pitch to Flameny,
swing and a miss strike one for Many at the moment,
(02:35:59):
backing three forty six and beat rows at the moment
patting three forty seven. Here's the bitch. Clementy's wings chops
it to the left side, Colin's charges Haw's it throws
the first Nune in time, Flamenty is out, Blameny couldn't
(02:36:21):
get there, and the throw from Kevin Collins beat him.
That brings a little home with run number eight for
the Pirates. Blementy does pick up an RBI and Cash
moves the second, but it's out number two and Clementy
did not get a hit here, So now we have
to refigure all over again. Willie Stargell has given way. Yeah,
(02:36:59):
let's see who's coming in to hit for star Gel.
Who do we have the right hand batter who's not
listed here? We get it in the second Cash is
that second Pirrates lead eight to bottom of the eighth
(02:37:22):
that Borbes fields. Star Gel is called back swinging a
mess strike to one ball, two strikes. Well, let's see
who else they've got around here. Now this is gonna
be John Jeter, John Jeter, right hand batter, the pitch
(02:37:51):
swing and a mess strike three. That's it. He's out
of there. One run, two hits, no errors, one left
and the score at the end of eight innings Pirate's
eight exposed to All right, if we want to, they're
a little arithmetic here and get the story on the
(02:38:14):
batting lead, and at the same time stay in touch
with Atlanta, which the Pirates are doing for us, and
they'll pass on to us exactly what happens to Pete
Rose in that ball game down at Atlanta. Now, as
we mentioned, Rose has gone over three in that game
at Atlanta, which the Braves. We're leading three to one,
but Cincinnati has come up with four runs now in
(02:38:38):
the seventh and have taken a five to three lead.
So if Pete Rose had a hand in that and
comes up with a hit and maybe gets another chance
to come to bat later in the game, he can
go on and secure the Batting Championship for the second
year in a row. But Roberto Clementi's giving it a
big run here in a bit for his fifth National
(02:38:59):
League Batting jackmpionship, and at the moment is just one
percentage point away from Pete Rose, who's betting three pointy
seven and Clementy had still had three forty six. Hererowl
here on the top of the night, the Pirates leading
eight to two, and it's Ryan Brand stepping in, then
(02:39:20):
Bobby Wine and then we'll have a pinch hitter. The
first pitch to Rod is low ball one. The one
O pitch check swing Paul two is outside Jeter and
left hallouin center. Clementian right two O has cut on
a bounder to the left side. That's a base hit.
(02:39:44):
Bryan Brand comes up with a single ear off Moose
over eight hits now off the right hander and the
batter is Bobby Wine. So here we are now in
the last inning at Forbes Field, with the Pirates leading
eight to Garry Sutherlin has moved into the veack circle.
(02:40:07):
The bat for Carolson Barrett the bitch. Bobby takes it low.
So clementing now with that ground out, here's a pitch
low and end to Bobby for a ball. Now, Pete
(02:40:31):
Rose did get a hit in that beginning in which
Cincinnati scored four runs in the seventh. So Rose is
now one for four and Russ will work out the
arithmetic here for us in just a second. So it
looks like that hit by a Rose might have done it.
The foul off the bat of Wine went to the
right side. It's one ball and one strike. The Bobby
(02:40:52):
Wine at the belt moves checks his runner branded first.
The bitch foul upstairs, right side, strike two, Dave. With
Roles going one for four so far in that ballgame.
Now these figures are unofficial. Roles is hitting three forty seven.
Famenty is now hitting three forty five, three forty seven
(02:41:14):
for Pete Rose, three forty five for Roberto Clement. Here's
the one too to Bobby bounced to the left side,
Hepner has it goes to second for one back to first.
I don't play around the horn, double play five to
four to three, two outs, nobody on and we are
(02:41:35):
within one out here of ending the nineteen sixty nine
baseball season, the Pirates leading eight to two. They wanted
this series badly. It meant third place to them, and
that means money to each individual player. And they've gone
hard against our expose. Here the last two nights, most
(02:41:56):
deliveries a founder to the right side. This could be
the season up with the Paul Robertson steps from the
bag and it's all over. The nineteen sixty nine baseball
season is in the books. The Pirates beat the Exposed
eight to two as Gary Setlin grounds out of the
first baseman five Robertson unassisted. The final score the Pirates eight,
(02:42:18):
the Exposed two, and I will have the totals in
just one minute. Will in nineteen sixty nine baseball season
has especially come to a clause to the Montreal Xpos
as they dropped an eight to two decisions to the
Pittsburgh Pirates here at Forbesfield to night. However, the box
office of the Montreal x Bawl office in Montreal remains
(02:42:39):
open three hundred and sixty five days a year. Well
not three hundred and sixty five. The box office personnel,
of course, gets the holidays, but opens fifty two weeks
a year, and it's open to accept season ticket subscriptions
for next year. Remember a box seat costs three hundred
and fifty dollars a reserve seat two hundred fifty dollars.
(02:43:01):
If you buy a box seat, remember that you'll make
a saving of thirty five dollars. If you buy a
reserve seat for two hundred and fifty dollars, remember that
you saved nineteen dollars and fifty cent. Right to the
Montreal Exposed Baseball Club ten ten Saint Catherine Street West
for further ticket information. Reserve your season tickets now for
(02:43:23):
Exposed nineteen seventy. Well, it seems high to believe, but
it's true. The baseball season has officially come to an
end for the Montreal Expose. The opens up with a
victory eleven to ten over the New York MAT's back
on April eighth at Chase Stadium in New York and
to that, unfortunately they couldn't win it. They dropped an
(02:43:43):
eighty two decisions to the powerful Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates
with a batting order that spells nothing but trouble for
the opposition from the first man to down around the
seventh or eighth, and even the eighth man in the
order can come up with his head saw the Pirates,
and we're speaking at eighth man Freddie Pottek, who's actually
been a spawn on the expos side most of the season.
(02:44:04):
So eight to two the final score for all the
Polots over the X balls. With more of the ballgame,
it's back to day. Well, here's the line score for
the Pirates, eight runs, thirteen hits in an air for
the Exposed two runs, eight hits and one air. Bob
Moose was the winning pitcher and Jerry Robertson the losing pitcher.
Moose winds up fourteen and three for the year and
(02:44:26):
for Jerry Robertson, he winds up five and sixteen for
the year. And that, as we said, is the final
game of the season. The Pirates wind up winning eighty
eight and losing seventy four and taking third place in
the Eastern Division of the National League, which we finished sixth,
winning fifty two and losing one hundred and ten. So
(02:44:49):
eight to two is the final score of our final
game of our first season, and I'll have more on
this wrap up in just one minute. Maath would like
to remind all of you before we for the nineteen
sixty nine season that the expos Yearbook will be available
by mail. For a copy of the latest issue of
the Exposed Yearbook, there have been four issues this year,

x Bos and for the Pittsburgh Pirates and for the
rest of the National League. With the exception of the
games that are underway, the nineteen sixty nine season is over.
That is, for the exception of the Atlanta Braves and
the New York Mets. They'll be going into the playoffs Saturdays,
starting at Atlanta Stadium in Atlanta, And of course, the
winner of the National League pennant goes onto the World
(02:46:25):
Series to meet the winner of the American League pennant,
as the Minnesota Twins will battle the Baltimore Orioles. But
it has been, without a doubt, a thrilling and exciting
baseball season for all of us associated with the Montreal
Xpos and especially for the fans who have had such
a great time at Jerry Park. This year. We have
(02:46:47):
gone through one hundred and sixty two games. The team
has scored five hundred and eighty two runs and thirteen
hundred hits have taken place over those one hundred and
sixty two games, and some of the most memorable hits
of Montreal exposed history. Some of the games that were
played in this first year will be remembered through the
years by baseball fans, by those of us associated with
(02:47:10):
the club. The first year of the Montreal Exposed of
the National League, a year that just really a few
short months ago, seemed like it would never get underway
because there was so much to be done in such
a little amount of time that it seemed almost impossible
that the season could start, that we'd be ready in Montreal.
But everything was ready, the field, the stadium, the players management.
(02:47:35):
Season got underway, and by golly, all of a sudden,
it's over one hundred and sixty two games, and here
we are on the second of October, and that day
at Shay Stadium on April eight seems just like yesterday
when the Expos won their very first game in the
National League and in professional baseball. And of course here
tonight the ballplayers had disappointed that they could not have
(02:47:58):
won in this last ball game, but as we said,
the Pirates had a lot of stake, and that was
the big third place in the National League and a
chance to finish in the money, and they went all
out and swept this two game series. For many of
the Exposed. It's back home to jobs, the time with families,
the vacations. For a lot of them, well, just a
(02:48:19):
couple of days off and they're right back down in
Florida to the instructional League. They'll be working on that
breaking ball, trying to get that slider over the plate,
trying to develop a little bit better fastball and a
good change of pace and get the batting eye back.
For those that did not play a great deal during
the season, there'll be a lot of work, a lot
of time spending the batting cage under the tutelage of
the fine instructors that the Exposed will have down in Florida,
(02:48:42):
Information of young ballplayers, building future champions, building a strong
franchise and a winning ball club and winning ways, all
these things just around the corner for the Montreal Exposed,
the most exciting team in baseball that played before the
most exciting fans in baseball, And although that title of
the most sighting team and baseball may be tagged on
(02:49:03):
them a little bit early, we're seeing a few years.
If that's not exactly what we have, it's what the
Expos have planned for their team and for their fans
and I'm sure that the front office for President John
McHale on down is not going to let the fans out.
Save Van Horn and Russ Taylor, We're gonna have a
final word for you. But right now ten seconds for
station identifocation on the Exposed Baseball Raady on Network.
Speaker 10 (02:49:25):
This is the home of Expo Baseball in the Capitol
District whr L in Albany, New York.
Speaker 1 (02:49:34):
City. Him here from how A, Forbesfield and Pittsburgh. We're
putting the cap on the nineteen sixty nine baseball season.
And Russ. Although we would take up an hour here,
we've tried to thank all of the people that we
should thank. We'd have to start with the fans and
name them individually, so we can't go down the entire list,
(02:49:57):
but I think we would have to start with not
only the fans, but of course manager Gene Mark, the coaches,
cal McLish, Phoenix Lowry, Bob Old, Jerry Zimmerman, all of
the players for the cooperation that they've given us this season.
And also to our co workers John Pierre Wamp, John
Paul Serome over here on the French network for the
(02:50:20):
Montreal Expos. The way we've been able to work together
and injoy ourselves in this first season, and of course
the regular the regulars that have been on the beat
covering the Expos general manager Jim Fanning, Lou Martin out
at Jerry Park, Loubis Viale, the groundskeeper. There's just no
end to the number of people that we should thank
(02:50:41):
and express our thanks to publicly, people like trainer Joe Lessio,
and of course last night here in Pittsburgh, those of
us that have traveled with this club throughout the season
gave a little testimonial party to our traveling secretary and
the guy that we feel is just the greatest in
the world, mister Jean Kirby, and our heartfelt thanks will
be expressed right here and now publicly to the exposed
(02:51:04):
director of travel, Jean Kirby, who is the guy that
takes care of us, sees to it that we get
to the plane on time and get the right rooms
at the hotel and the bus to the ballpark. He
takes care of everybody in the party and is just
one great guy. And us I know that we haven't
thanked the people that we should. We've just touched on
it by mentioning a few names with I'd like to
(02:51:27):
wind up I personally thanking you for making this year
one of the most enjoyable years I have ever had
ever spent in my life, and it's just a joy
to work with you and I hope that the fans
have enjoyed our broadcast as much as we've enjoyed bringing
the games to the fans well day. The feeling goes
both ways, no question about that. And of course we'd
(02:51:49):
like to thank those many fans wrote Canada and the
United States who are so kind enough to write letters.
Some of the letters perhaps a little bit of criticism, suggestions,
not too much, could a lot of suggestions, and Dave
and I will be doing a lot of reading during
the offseason and certainly a lot of writing to these
fans who have taken the trouble to write to us
(02:52:09):
here in Montreal. It's been well, Dave, I think you
said it all. It's been really and truly a tremendous
experience for me personally and all for you, and thrill
that I certainly will never forget be part of the
broadcast team of the Montfreal Exposed in their first year
in baseball, the year nineteen sixty nine, as truly a
year to remember. Well, I'll believe it or night, We're
(02:52:31):
not gonna say good night yet, because just around the
corner is more on that National League race for the
Batting Championship and the scories of other games played today
the final day of the regular season. So stay tuned
with the Baseball Scoreboard with Russ Taylor beginning in just
two minutes on the Exposed Baseball Radio Network. By This
