Speaker 1 (00:00):
Yes, they had.

Speaker 2 (00:00):
After opening up in Baltimore, Boltimore taking Pittsburgh easily the
first two games, it looked like it would be an
easy series for Baltimore, but then when they moved to Pittsburgh,
Pittsburgh got hot.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
Yeah, Nelly was superb as Baltimore and defeated doc Ellis
McNally with nine strikeouts, and Baltimore really unloaded in Game
two before sellout crowd at Memorial Stadium, defeating the Pirates
eleven to three. But it was different, as Loud just
mentioned it, when they got to Pittsburgh. It was Steve
Blass who throttled the Orioles, allowed them just one run

(00:33):
on three hits, and the Pirates got by their first
win of the series, winning at five to one.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
That seemed to give a momentum Vince as they won
the next one next game four to three, and then
shutting out Baltimore in the fifth game four to nothing.
And now we're moving along to the sixth game, which
moves right back to Baltimore.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
Yeah, and a good friend of yours of mine, Nellie Briles,
who's in the broadcasting business now, authored that shut out
Thatsburg Port of Nothing victory a two hitter for Briles.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
It's some great names in there.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
I imagine if if Gene Kleins is around and listening
to this one, they got to bring back.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
Some pretty good memories for him.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
I will vouch that he's playing every inning, in every pitch.

Speaker 4 (01:18):
And you mentioned names.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
Baltimore had Viuford, they had Big Boot Paul, and of
course they had Frank Robinson in the outfield and Brooks Robinson,
the great Brooks Robinson at third, while Pittsburgh coming up
with the late Hall of Famer Roberto Clementi in the outfield.
He had Star Joland, as you mentioned, Kleins and also
Al Oliver, who was still active with the Rangers, played

(01:43):
center field also.

Speaker 4 (01:44):
In that ballgame.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
And Sageon was the catcher for Pittsburgh.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
He's the next three.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
And so now they're back in Baltimore and it's do
or die.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
For the Orioles. We'll be back with Game Sex right
after this.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
For Game Sex of the nineteen seventy one World Series
between the Pittsburgh Parks in the Baltimore Oriols from Memorials
Stadium in Baltimore, we go to Jim Simpson, Hello.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
And welcome back to Baltimore for the sixth game of
the nineteen seventy one World Series, the series in which
the Pittsburgh Pirates had swept their last three and now
only three games to two lead over the Baltimore Oriols.
And should the Pirates win today, the World Series is
all over. But remember the Oils won the first two
at home, the Pirates won their three at home, and
now Baltimore's back in its own Memorials Stadium in Baltimore.

(02:33):
There's only one thing sure about today's ball game. It
will be played, ten percent chance of rain, and the
temperature at the moment of delightful sixty seven degrees. It's
is Jim Simpson along with Bob Prince. Down to our right.
Bob moves a relief pitcher a starting pitcher, and he
has been in relief twice in this World Series eleven games.
Is high marked with the Pittsburgh Pirates in nineteen seventy one.

(02:56):
Is warming up a right hander, and off to our
left behind third base, Jim Palmer, winner of twenty games
during the regular season, one of those four Baltimore twenty
game winners, who won the second game of the World Series,
and a laugher eleven to three, but a game in
which Jim threw one hundred and sixty eight pitches. Mosse
and Palmer, right hander against right hander the Pirates. If
they win it, it's all shown up the roads. If

(03:18):
they win it, they go to the seventh and deciding
game tomorrow afternoon. Right here in Baltimore for this sixth
game of the World Series is Lenndyllan from NBC New

(03:39):
York and their engineers. Dave Nolan out of WRSC in Washington.
Well hear the lineup for the Pittsburgh Pirates leading off
and playing at second base, Dave Cash batting second and
playing at third base, Rich Hebner S batting third and
playing out in right field. The leading hitter for this
nineteen seventy one World Series Roberto Clemetti, hitting four twenty
nine and then World Series Game five this year and

(04:01):
seven back in nineteen sixty. Coment he has hit safely
in every single one or two statting clean up and
out in the field. Please Starder, the eight league home
run hitter s batting fifth in center field as Danny
Murgall loads up with left tatus against the right editgim
bomber Al Oliver stotting six at first phase. He did
two World Chairs Homeman thus far. Bob Robertson batting seventh

(04:22):
of speedy aggressive catcher Manny Samguiz statting eighth. Jack Hernandez
at short stop. Not known for his hitting, but in
this World Series hitting well over pre sixty three, sixty
four and Bob Moose is the starter eleven and seven
on the year four point one one is earned one
average he has been. Moose has in a couple of
these World Cheries games thus far, both times being relief.

(04:48):
He pitched three and two third innings. In the first game,
gave up a run and that was Don Duffort palm
run and pre hits. And then in that in the
pre ball game last Monday, he worked on a one
inning total and gave up five RUMs and five hits.
Most has been both hot and cold. Now for the
Baltimore World's Air lineup, leading off and playing out in
left field, the switch hitter Don Duford stotting second at

(05:10):
second base, and he is way up in the lineup.
Dave Johnson batting third at first base boog cow. Then
we come to the Orios leading hitter Frank Robinson hitting
at four to twelve, batting clean up and playing right field.
Mark Reckman, right handed batter, will be in center field today.
Brooks Robinson of course at third base, batting six. Ellie
Hendrick slift handed swinging catchers behind the plate, Mark Polanger

(05:33):
bats ef he's the shortstop, and Jim Palmer twenty nine
and one n oh in the World Series is the
pitcher through. Mark quad who set a Major League record
for winning nineteen consecutive ball games in one season, has
thrown off the first ball the umpires today, John Kibbler
behind the plate, Mister Shodock down at first base, at

(05:54):
suit All at second, John Rice at third at Bargo
down along the left field line, and Jim Odums along
the right field line. And looking around Memorial City, and
we see that it is going to be much less
than a capacity crowd. There are lots of seats as
well as out in the left field bleachers having the
right deal bleachers, so we will have less than the
capacity crowd here today for the sixth game of the
World Series. As we said, there are two right handers,

(06:17):
Bob Moose who has concluded his warm ups, and Jim Palmer.
And now the Oils take the field, Bud Cowell goes
down the first vase. Davy Johnson will be at second,
Mark Blanger the short stop, Mark's Robinson at third base,

(06:39):
Don Buford's out in left field, merk Reckman and center field,
Frank Robinson in right field, and Eli Hendrix is behind
the plate. Jim Palmer the pitcher, doing a little gardening
in front of the pitching rubber, stuffing it up a
little bit. Balmer the right hander, who by the way,
is a high ball pitcher and a pitcher that many
wild has the best stuff on the Baltimore staff, has

(07:01):
now begun his warm ups and again has done a
little guarding, and so just now has only thrown his
second warm up pitch to Eli Hendrix. Remember, if the
Oils are to turn this series around, if they are
to win, they must score some runs, something they have
not done in their last seventeen innings. They must keep
the Pirates off the basin, something they've only done three

(07:23):
times in the last thirty three innings. The Pirates have
been on that much. Pirates have come back here with
a much different attitude than they had a week ago
when they left down two games to none, when they
said let's get back to our ballpark. And there's a
lot of conversation, specifically that by ROBERTA. Clemetty that he
does not think that Memorial Citdium in Baltimore is a
major league ballpark. And right back at him came the

(07:44):
superstar to Baltimore Oils, Frank Robinson, who said, how he
used to play in Forbes Field and this is better
than that. They are a little bit of controversy going on,
but the big thing is and they said, Bob Prince,
the game is the thing. And Dave Cash, it's about
to step in the vase. Jim Pommers and here from
the up for Clark, their voice popping. Thank you very much,
Jim Simpson and hello again everybody. The lights have been

(08:06):
on now for quite some time. It's a gray, overcast day.
As Jim Simpson told you, very little feeder rain. The
interesting confrontation here today will be Palmer high fastball pitcher,
National League, trying to go for low balls, and there's
a high pop off the first day side on the
first pitch and Bloom Powell has it one out that

(08:30):
was a little popper right up along first in fair territory,
and one pitch went away Richie Havener two hits in
the series, a home run, the free and free runs
battered in. Richard added the two seventy one on the
regular season seventeen armers sixty seven runs better. Didn't hit
a three run homer off Palmer in that game. Hits
a high fly out in the center field, and Palmer

(08:54):
on two pitches I disposed of two batters. Now, Bobby Clemtty,
the leading hitter in the series with nine hits, has
hit safely in all World Series games in which he
has participated twelve. To be exact, Bobby in the regular

(09:15):
season met him at three forty one, thirteen homers, eighty
six runs. Bet are there, Jim Simpson reminds, fourteen innings
in a row, the Pirates have had a base runner,
and if they're to prolong that streak, Clementy must get aboard.
The outfield will continue to play Bobby around to right.
It is three h nine to right, and it's high fastball.

(09:38):
Ball won those strikes. That's the person ball that's been recorded.
Then it falls out the three sixty three ninety and
four ten straight away. Lement He takes the breaking ball
low at its two balls, and those strikes the Orioles,
like everybody in the National League, continues to pitch Frementy
outside and he continues to hit around three forty, and

(10:01):
there's a ball hitting into the gap and web center
field that's in between Beauport and Ruptment. It's going to
be excavations. Bouncer's off the tar falling out there. From
then he's going to second. You're going to try the third.
The relay phone not in time, triple Baltimore Jim Simpson

(10:21):
continuing to pitch him outside, overship their outfield around of
the right now for the fifteenth consecutive inning they're on
and from many Pollacks that one ripping drive right into
the gap straight away where there was nobody all. We're
finally getting it rather beautiford and on the relay not

(10:43):
in time, so for many is on with a triple.
Bobby now has hit safely in all thirteen games in
which he is in the World Series, and he wasted
no time jumping on a fast ball from Hammer. Stardgeled

(11:06):
about of the one zero pitch a change, it's low
and him side ball too. Now, while Stargia was in
the throes of a very fearful slump, he did ultimately
pick up four basits, one of them a double drove
in a run, and he also has six walks. And
it's low ball three, three and zero. Well, it opened
up very quickly with Cash swinging on the first pitch,

(11:29):
pop him up to Boog Powell. Kepner then flied out
to shadow center and Clementy started one of the center
peel full of triple three zero pitch. Just strike is
called in it's three and lie here umpires John Kimbler
at home plate, Mister Shylack at first, d suit All
at second, John Rice at third. Here's the free one

(11:49):
del every d I'm swinging up a stike. Two Palmer
and Stardgele in the game they met and two Stigele
got one hit in free advanced walk twice three balls,
two strikes and the pitch and he was amul I

(12:11):
got attempting to hold up on the pitch, couldn't do it.
All runs ahead, no errors that the man left. We
go to the bottom of the first There is no
score and hyder Brush Saint Louis, along with Bob Prince

(13:17):
Jim Simpson back in Baltimore is the Orioles who won
their two games here last Saturday and Monday are back
in town before her home crowd no scores the eros
coming after the first time, and Don Bufort will lead
it off against Bob Moose, roberts through the first baseman,
Cash had second, Hernandez at George Heaven a third, Jargeland left,
Oliver Andser, Clementian right, Sange and the catcher hat Moose

(13:38):
it off the pitch to Don Dupert's. Bob and Don
Buport hit the first pitch off Moose when they appeared
against each other for a home run. Batted on the
season at two ninety and the pitch is low ball
on and Bulford Shortan never thought he might be bunning.
Pirates have Heaven a third, Nanda's at short, Cash and second,
Robertson at first, Stargel Oliver Clement of the outfield, Gulfort

(13:59):
the left hand battery being played, the bull coaching at third,
Billy Hunter at first base, George Staler, Moose on the
one ball, no strike pitched fastball base head in the
center field that's out there by Oliver and Beuport gone.

(14:20):
That'll bring up Davy. Johnson had three hits thus far
in the series and two runs betted in on the
regular season, batted at two eighty two eighteen homers, seventy
two runs batted in. So to Baltimore Orioles get a
man aboard to lead it off. Rch have now spended
fifty one men on the base. Paz or else if
you care to go the other way. Baltimore pitching is

(14:42):
stranded fifty one pirates a quick coat of first, and
Bob Moose has the best move of any pirate, and
perhaps as good a move as anybody anywhere over the
first base. So Buport will have to be careful, and
there was a throw that almost nailed him, got him
in a little bit of a walking lead. The way
he switches those legs and goes over there, he's got

(15:02):
as good a move as you'll ever see. They out
feel around to the left. Us will hide that ball
behind the cook of the right knee. Now checks it
first comes to the plate, and it's in there for
the strike. You don't get to see anything. Moose is
tossing until he delivers, hides the ball behind the cook
of the right knee, then gloves it very nicely and

(15:25):
short arms you. As they say, there's a quick, fast
move the first as he reverses his feet and goes across.
In the game, Brueport is back. Davy Johnson being played
to pull the ball a little bit, dodge will rather
deep and left. Moose comes to the plate a breaking
ball in there, strike to its calls. All right's very

(15:52):
obviously came to the ballpark today packed and ready to
go home. But that's only a common sense move. They win,
of course the goal. If not, they'll go home an
unpack here to the hotel unpacking. Do it again tomorrow.
The O two delivery is outside. He wasted his passball
a ball and two strikes. Moose on occasion will show
the knuckleball, And basically that's just to give the batter

(16:14):
of the idea that he does have another pitch, but
his pitches nominally he relies on pinpoint control and a
good sinking pitch. Kimbler has called time on deck. Boog
Powel Hulford the runner at first base. Bit of a
gap over there off that right side, as Robertson holds

(16:35):
there now the look and the one two pitch, and
there's a hard foul off third and that ball missed
by very little, being a fair ball. The stands on
the third and first base side shut out very close
to the foul line, perhaps some hundred and seventy feet
down the line, and the ball could hit fair. Got

(16:55):
down there and hit that rupting and unrule ricochet on
out in most any direction. One ball and two strikes,
duport the runner at first and the ball the moore
first than there is no scar pitched to Johnson, and
there's a foul back, and he moved that one in
on his fist, running the ball in very tightly. Pointed

(17:22):
out that Studgel didn't appear to be ready when Palmer
struck him out in the first. He was still winging
his bat around, and Palmer slid to strike three in
there very quickly. One ball, two strikes, and the pitch
and there's a pop fowl coming back overhead now holding
one and two. One of the most memorable occasions back

(17:46):
in the year. A couple of years ago, when the
New York Mets won the championship, they were struggling for
their very lives to win it. When the Pirates came
into town to play him a five game series. Buckoes
beat him a doubleheader, then Moose through the no hitter,
and the Mets didn't lose any ground at all. One
two de every appoller down to third. Heavener has it
on the cash for one of the first double players.

(18:09):
All the Pirates go around the horn on a fast
double play five to four to three hunch double play
ball over in Pittsburgh. Jim Simpson stood the Pirates in
Mighty good Stead. Paul themar now brings up their number

(18:31):
three batter two hits in the series, Boog Bowel batting
a two fifty six no home runs, one run battered
in in the series. The regular campaign top twenty two
out of the ballpark. The infield shift is on and
a foul back off to the left in its side
of play. Fernandez on the first base side of second

(18:59):
base to the back about eight or ten feet on
the outfield grass. The outfield away around of the right.
Clementy is not playing pole too dep no balls, a
strike you out and on no score, the pitches are
let up and it tails outside for the ball. One
and one most it all around athlete from export, Pennsylvania.

(19:21):
A great football player has tremendous ballants and is feeling
at the mound is exceptional. There's a pop up poul
no play available as it comes back overhead a ball
and two strikes beyond deck batter Frank Robinson. As in
any World Series, there's been allowed to create the interest

(19:45):
of the fans, and a little bit of jabbing here
and there between the Baltimore Club and the Pittsburgh Club.
There's no question of what Clementy has been outspoken in
his dislike of this ballpark from the standpoint of playing
in it. There is a pitching of the dirty ball
that might have been his knuckleball that time. Two balls,
two strikes, Moose now having a little bee trouble. Been

(20:17):
a lot of bees around here at Memorial Stadium. Ball
two strike, two, two out, none on no score. In
the Baltimore first two to to Powell, I had a
foul ball on a sinking pitch that caught Kimber a
little bit on the foot to two. Moose very basically

(20:39):
with a sinking ball type of delivery. Is not an
overpowering pitcher. He's very low under two points in e
ra taking his intentional walks out of there. He does
not walk too many batters. Two balls, two strikes, and
the pitch to Powell high fly right field. Hif they

(21:03):
hobby how many goes up for it. Now, just back
a few sides and has it for the after retire
the side. No runs, want to hit, no rs, And
nobody laughed, and at the end of one inning of
fly here in Baltimore, there is no scar.

Speaker 5 (21:15):
This year's biggest airfare discounts are here Midway Airlines, with
four hundred and eight NonStop flights every week serving major
cities New York, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Saint Louis, Detroit, Omaha, Kansas City,
Washington DC. Midway Airlines now offers one hundred ninety one
weekly flights for at least fifty percent off. That's right,

(21:36):
you save at least fifty percent off. Oh, here's one
way unrestricted coach fairs. You heard it right. Midway's one
hundred ninety one super economy flights also include every flight
on Saturday from close in hassel.

Speaker 1 (21:48):
Free Midway Airport.

Speaker 5 (21:49):
These fairs have no restrictions, no small print, no ifs,
ends or butts, and all flights have convenient departure times.
A straight, honest, fifty percent or more discount from Midway Airlines.
Some Midway flights had even lower wholesale fairs than last summer.

Speaker 4 (22:03):
So what do you is say okay, Midway.

Speaker 5 (22:08):
Okay, get midway to New York for as low as
ninety five dollars and now that Cleveland were only forty
eight dollars. WGN Radio is presenting every broadcast of Game
six of the nineteen seventy one World Series between the
Pittsburgh Pirates and the Baltimore Orioles on WGN Radio in Chicago.

Speaker 4 (22:27):
Back in Baltimore fort the top of the second inning,
Al Oliver, Bob Robertson and Manny sam Ghee and Jim
Palmer has completed his warm up. Oliver left hand batter,
set the step in and here again as Boffner okay,
Jim Sampson and Al Oliver the center fielder three hits
in the series, no home runs, two runs battered in
takes a dotting pitch that failed away from the left

(22:47):
hand battery. Oliver last year used to really crowd the plate,
Palmer wasting no time back with the curve ball and
file off the end of the bat to the left side,
strike two. Oliver on the regular season better to two
eighty two fourteen armers, sixty four runs at it, and
was platooned a lot by Danny Murtza. The two pitch

(23:08):
and it's fouled back again. That time Palmer ran the
ball in on his fists. It'll be Oliver, Robertson and
San genn and the Pirates. Second inning, with no score
in the game. Now the O two delivery and there's

(23:28):
a ball driven down the right view line. Fair ball
bouncing into the corner, and Robinson makes a fine play,
prishes off the wall, comes up, throwing Oliver's into the
stand up double. Pirates have now had men on base
sixteen consecutive innings and have a triple and a double
to show thus far in the game. But the triple
by Clemente occurred in the first inning with two down.

(23:51):
Now Oliver starts it off with a double. Palmer in
the game against Pittsburgh that he won eleven to three,
surrendered eight hit spand in fourteen batteries, walked eight and
struck out ten. Now the batter of Bobby Robertson, He's
had three base hits, but two have left the ballpark
and they were telling blows. One that he hit for

(24:12):
a home run in Pittsburgh when he missed the bunch sign,
and one that he hits straight away in the center
field in Pittsburgh could help win the game swinging as
he tried to go to the right field that time.
Very definitely just trying to move the ball off the
right side of the diamond to advance Oliver to third
rank ociat coaching at third. Four of the Pirates over
the first base is Don Leppard. The Pirates normally down

(24:36):
to the last several years have been a very fine
fastball hitting club. No balls and a strike. Oliver edging
off second. The pitch is a flow curve, hammered foul
past third base, gohing two. Adiol infield is straight away here,

(24:57):
the outfield has swung to the left. Robinson is getting
Robertson better than ninety feet of the right field line.
It is three or nine down both lines, four to
ten straight away. Palmer has his sign now and the
pitch and he crowds Robertson on that delivery. One ball,
two strikes, and it failed inside and the fans shot

(25:21):
here Baltimore fans that might have been on the strike
zone to two the count. I don't think of any doubt,
but what Palmer is possessed of the best fastball on
the Baltimore pitching staff. He's up to Robertson on a
two ball, two strike count. Here's the pitch and it's
driven the left field for the Bay, said Oliver is

(25:42):
gonna try the score. Here comes the troll by Don Buford.
They got it come to it's not in time and
the Pirates lead one nothing. Bobby Robertson drives in his
fifth running the series, follows up Oliver's double with a
line single a left field and out comes Earl Weaver.
So the Bucco strike early here at Jim Simpson and

(26:04):
Weaver out right away. Well, he had Robertson nothing in two,
then went to Tutu and the pitch that he wanted
to get the decision on. He got it all right,
but not the way he wanted it. Now the batter

(26:25):
Manny Sangin, known as the road runner six base hit
on the regular season, battered at three one nine. Earl
Weaver has had his conversation with Jim Palmer. That single
by Robertson is the third hit against Palmer. Sang Gin

(26:48):
with a very heavy bat, almost forty ounces fouls back.
The first pitch strike one, and now there's some activity
getting ready out in the ball Lamore bullpen and it
is Grant Jackson, a left hander that is up, and

(27:08):
there's a little looper off the bat in the left
center for the bay set. Bobby Robertson will stop at second.
The Pirates have two men on and nobody out and
they are stinging that ball, and Dave Leonard is also up,
a right hander for the Baltimore orioles well. With two down.
In the first inning, Bobby Clementi starts the tremendous triple
the left center field and he was stranded for the

(27:31):
fifty first runner left by Baltimore pitching. But here in
the second inning, Oliver screeched the double down the right
field line. Robertson singled him home. Sam jinn Is singled
in the left center field, sending.

Speaker 6 (27:43):
Robertson the second.

Speaker 4 (27:44):
The batter will be Jackie Hernandez. Jackie in with four
base sets. Brut Robinson comes up tight looking for the
bun and boot power. Likewise, at first, the outfield is
straight away from the stretch. Palmer goes the bunt down
off the third day side. Palmer goes the second force
play a third for the force Flay. Hernandez wanted to
get that ball closer down the line to make Bobby

(28:07):
brus Robinson feel the ball. Palmer made a very fine
recovery and went right to third base, and that will
force Bob robertson all Sanguin is that second and on
a force play, Hernandez is at first, and the Orioles
still look for a bunch from Bobby Moose, who on

(28:29):
the regular season batted at one twenty four and he
slams a panel off the first bay side instead strike one.
Pirates lead won nothing on four against the Orioles. No
runs on one here Bucks very early in the game,

(28:51):
turning their lineup over a slow curve way inside for
the ball. One in one. Palmer doesn't appear today going
to that real smoke, and he has plenty of that
when he's right. One one delivery and the bunnet's pushed

(29:14):
off over toward boot Pole has only one play onto
second base, Johnson covering a course at first on the sacrifice.
Sam Gean has gone to third her nand is in
the second, So it's two down. Remember now, the Pirates
all year long have been a great two out scoring
ball club. In one of the games they won overed
in Pittsburgh four nothing, they scored all four runs after

(29:36):
two were out, Jim sent some points out that in
the game that Palmer defeated Pittsburgh, having only gone eight innings,
he pitched one hundred and sixty eight. A pitch is
Cash the batter, and he takes a strike. Cash popped
up the first on the first pitch in the first inning.
They're playing him as a right field hitter. Sam Gean

(29:59):
is at a third or Nante's at second, and the
sinking delivery low for the ball. The count of one
ball and one strike. Activity continuing in the Baltimore bullpen.
Grant Jackson the left hander, Dave Leonard the right hander,
one ball, one strike. Palmer's delivery is hit foul off third.

(30:19):
The count now one and two. If the Pirates are
able to defeat Palmer today, they will have swept four
twenty game winners. A ball and two strikes and the
one to two pitch and there's a popper hit in

(30:41):
the shallow center coming up fast merv Redmond dropping back Johnson.
Johnson had the Pirates draw the first scoring opportunity with
a run on three hits, no errors and leave two
going to the bottom of the second. Pittsburgh one in
Baltimore and nothing.

Speaker 3 (30:58):

you'll find durable rubber Maid pictures, waste baskets, and more

Speaker 4 (31:37):
Frank Robinson leads it off in the Baltimore Second Moose

(32:08):
starts him off with a sinking fastball that Robbie fouls
at the feet of the plate umpfire. Frank is the
leading hitter bass it wise, but Brus Robinson's in with six,
Frank in with seven, and Robinson's also had two home runs.
The outfield will play him around the left and we
have a decided shift on Robinson. Hernandez is almost over

(32:31):
where he can shake hands with Heavener. He gave him
everything up the middle of the diamond in the infield,
the all one delivery, slinging a mess strike too, took
something off that one. Ron Santo of the Chicago Cubs
absolutely doesn't want to bat at any time against Moose.

(32:54):
He has great success against the Cubs. The two pitch,
her ball struck him out. Now the center fielder Merv
Retmond will stand in. Merv batting at three one eight
on the season, eleven homers and seventy five runs batted in.
Has had four hits in the series with one homer,

(33:15):
then four runs batted in. Pittsburgh leading the Baltimore Orioles
by the score of one. And I thing as we
play here in the bottom half of the second inn
they'll play Retmond. The pull stargule has deepened and left
and Retmond steps out as Bobby took just a little

(33:35):
too much time. And now sam Gin is making a
switch on Oliver, moving him more straight away in center field.
Now the pitch and a fastball foul back and that
ball was running away from the right hand. Batter pirates
one run on four hits, Baltimore no run, Fawn one hit,

(33:58):
one out. In their second inning, Moose again comes to
the plate, wasting a fastball all the way one ball
one strike. Moose will basically pitch off the first bay
side of the pitching rubber, but we'll on occasion move
around a little bit. One ball, one strike, and a
slow shopper hit down to a shortstop. Fernandez Carouse the

(34:20):
bad hot throws low, but held by Robertson two away.
In the Baltimore second, the batter will now be Bruts.
Robinson in with six bay sits two hundred and seventy
two batting average in the regular season, twenty homers and
ninety two runs batted in here in the World Series,
he has driven in four US. They play him to

(34:41):
pull ever so slightly. Now Moose back slinging in the
miss on a break and pitch outside the ball's one strike,
two down and on. In the Baltimore second, the delivery
pass ball up around the bill of the cap and

(35:02):
the ball one strike, one count. As Jim Simpson pointed
out a little earlier, this is nowhere near a sellout
here in Baltimore. Lots of empty seats, particularly in the
upper deck and partially in the bleachers. One to one
pitch sinking law ball two two and one. Nice balmy day,

(35:28):
gray and overcast, very little chance of rain ball two,
strike one, delivered the Brooks and he started a fish
on that one and got the pole out of the water.
And it's three and one. Now that's the deepest in
the ball in strike count three and one on the
minor side. That moose has gone to a Baltimore batter.

(35:48):
Thus far ball three, strike one back with a pass ball,
hit it off the end of the bat. Robertson at
first has it takes him unassistant and at off speeds
is so far very fantalizing. They're the Orioles. So at
the end of few innings of play, the Pirates lead
Baltimore about a score of one to nothing.

Speaker 2 (36:09):
Game six of the nineteen seventy one World Series continues
after this.

Speaker 7 (36:18):
When it comes to life insurance, whether you're a single
or married man or woman, buying short term security or
planning for retirement, nationwide agents are trained to provide a
type of insurance you need in an amount you can afford.

Speaker 3 (36:30):
Call one today, Bill Zuomer in Much Chicago, Mark Grensen
and Schamberg, Glarry Barnett and Wheaton, Dennis Fruckwig in Oak Forest.

Speaker 4 (36:45):
Alm with Bob Prince Jim Simpson back for the sixth
game of the World Series is to go to the
top of the third inning, which Pittsburgh leads one run.
They've had four hits and no errors, and Baltimore's only
had a single days that was the lead off vat
of Bufort and the first who was a race on
a double play Nerd. Here's Bong Hebner fled to center field,
swings and files back on the first pitch. And there's

(37:06):
one thing that basically thus far in the game, the
parts have been going after Palmer early on his deliveries.
They're not trying to wait him out, They're going at him.

Speaker 1 (37:14):
The old one.

Speaker 4 (37:14):
Delivery is a curve that missed outside one in one
the atfield playing Hebner very much to pull hit a
three run homer against Palmer, swings on a change up
one and two. Elly Hendrick's fine to play washing out.

(37:38):
The sun now sets out to the left a little bit,
and there's Heavener pomping this one up into shallow center
back Balinger, Johnson and redmand It's going to be shortstop
Blinger right in front of Redmond. And there's one away.
Now here's Bobby Clemty, who has had that There's ever

(37:58):
been a Vendetta. This might be it. He just will
not knock the lounder and has now had ten hits
in the series and has hit safely in every World
Series game in which he has participated eleven years apart

(38:19):
seven straight games in the sixty series, and of course
in all of the games. Here pitch to him from
Palmer and here's a ball hit very deep the right field,
going back for it as Frank Robinson, he's at the wall.

Speaker 5 (38:31):
He can't get it.

Speaker 4 (38:32):
It's gone for a home run. Rabbi Commetty continues to
totally annihilate Baltimore pitching and Bob Prince. One of the
things that Perverta Commetti does not like about this Baltimore
Stadium is as a group of houses out they on
center field and the white of the ball comes out
of the white of the house. It's very difficult to

(38:53):
pick up. But that is the sixth hit in less
than three ball games Roverta Committee has against that poor background.
They can see hi when the background. Good strike. Here
to Willie Stargell, a strike got victim his first time up,
and a pitcher is high for a ball in a
kind of one and one. Clementy now has a triple

(39:17):
and a home run to go with Oliver's double, So
in me five hits. Stargell hits it off the end
of the bat down to Blanger the shortstop. He throws
through boot Powell and there are two aways. Clemente's home
run is his first in the World Series. Now the
batter Al Oliver, who started the rallying the second inning

(39:39):
with a ringing double the right, came in the score
when Bob robertson single a left and Farmer starts him
off with a curveball one to oh. I've not seen
Jim Palmer work too much Jim Simpson, but he's working
very rapidly. I wonder if he's always been this way.
The one zero is in there, let up one and one.
Farmer does work rapidly. But I think the better observation

(40:01):
is the one you made, Bob, and that is that
he is not throwing the good smoking stuff. For that
not too much. There's a power back off what looked
like the best fastball he's tossed out here this afternoon.
Our ball and two strikes. Just to recap if you
got into the picture. Now it's Oliver doubling in the
second and scoring and now Clementi a homer, big high,
lazy curve ballooning upstairs and it's two balls, two strikes.

(40:28):
We're in the top half of the third inning with
two out to two delivery. Oliver fouls away and again
Palmer takes something off his fastball. It's almost as if
Palmer's trying to face himself. And as Jim Simpson pointed out,
he threw one hundred and sixty eight pitches in the
first game that he pitched to two delivery. Foul away again,

(40:48):
and the Bucks helped him out by going at those
early couple of innings right after anything he fired up there.
They lead here to nothing, two to two. Pitch pouted
back and Palmer's now is having his work cut out

(41:13):
ball two strike, two and two out. They're playing Oliver
definitely as a slash hit or the left. He steps out.
They give him a lot of territory out up the
middle of the diamond and in the right center field.
Two ball, two strike pitch from Palmer, and it's low
ball three, three and two beyond deck batter Bob Robertson

(41:40):
three two pitch and it's hammered off the first base
side over goes Johnson to his left, waits for Powell
at first and throws it over there and the side
is retired. And that's the first time the Pirates have
not had a runner standard in this ball game. They
get a run on the home run by Clemtty on
one head, and we go to the bottom of the
third and Pirates lead Baltimore by the score of good
to nothink. Boy, GM has really put together this year.

Speaker 8 (42:05):
Look at that car, through it We just can't afford it.

Speaker 4 (42:08):
Do you know how high the prime rate is? Honey,
I don't even know what the prime rate is.

Speaker 5 (42:13):
Instead of worrying about the bank prime rate, ask your
GM deader about GMAC. GMAC has financing right now at
rates that makes sense. So get that new Chevy Pontiac,
olds Bury Cadillac or GMC Trucking want with help from
GMAC the financing people from General Motors. Because lawns come
in all shapes and sizes, so do lawn Chief moors from.

Speaker 1 (42:34):
True value hardware stores.

Speaker 5 (42:36):
Hi Pat Summer all To suggests you choose from their
wide selection to find the more that vest suits your needs,
like the lawn Chief three horsepower twenty.

Speaker 1 (42:43):
Inch rotary more loaded with features for just.

Speaker 5 (42:45):
One thirty nine ninety nine or the lawn Chief twenty
two inch, three and a half horse power rotary model
for larger lawns, priced at just one nine ninety nine.
Lawn Chief moors have earned the Good Asskeeping seal and
they're sold exclusively by participating true Value hardware stores.

Speaker 4 (43:00):
As for Brutald Clemetty, he went off the right field,
he got a standing ovation, so I would assume bumperans
after what Clemty you said about the Baltimore Memorial Stadium
that the vans and the right field bleachers are down
from Bitburn. Yes, they must have come in on the
bus load. Clemtty, by the way, now has eleven base
hits in the record for a six game series is twelve,
held by Billy Martin. Well here is Baltimore's catcher, Ellie Hendrix,

(43:26):
and the Pirates continue their shift against him. Nobody shifted
against them like Pittsburgh throughout the season, according to the
Pirates scatting reports. Moose pops the fastball right by him
let or higher. Fernandez is out just about a step
to the first base side of second. He invite him
to go to the left field to give him everything

(43:47):
off the left field side of that infield, no balls
and a strike and a tailing fastball moved outside one
and one. Moose surrendered to base hit to Bufort in
the first inning, and then Johnson hit into an around
horn double play from third to second to first. Blue
Fowle hit the ball rather sharply but high and deepened

(44:08):
the right and comen he gobbled it up. Then Moose
set the Birds down in order in the second and
now works here to Hendricks. The ball and the strike.
The first body Robertson has it, takes him on assistant,
and that's two outs in a row for Robertson, unassistant.
There's one down in the Baltimore third, with the Pirates
leading Baltimore by the score of two to nothing. Gotcher

(44:39):
Mark Belanger three hits in the series. The Baltimore shortstop
Betting eighth in the lineup. Moose's fastball missed upstairs, the
ball shade Belanger a little bit in the right. Pirates
two runs on five hits, Baltimore no runs on one

(45:01):
hit with one out in the third and nobody aboard,
and he just dropped that one under his knees for
a ball two count two and oh, no, two balls,
no strikes to Mark Blinger. Two oh delivery brushes him

(45:28):
back off the plate, and it's three and oh. Now
this is the deepest in the ball no strike count
that Moose has gone thus far. Today in two and
a third. Blanger on the regular season bettered at two
sixty six no homers, thirty five runs batted in. Now
the three oh delivery right down the pipe, and it's

(45:49):
three and one. Jim Palmer the on deck batter three
to one pitch to Balinger just underneath. He walked home.
So that'll bring up Farmer, who on the regular season
mattered at one ninety six. Palmer in the game that

(46:12):
he won, Game two, walked twice to drive in runs,
which was somewhat unusual.

Speaker 5 (46:24):
Coming to it over.

Speaker 4 (46:26):
He walked in the fourth enning of Game two to
drive in a run he did lack fwise in the
pet heaving her uptight at third, looking to the right
end batterer and a swinging of this strike one the
regular season, Palmer drove in nine runs, did not hit
any home runs. Rights lead to nothing with one out

(46:50):
and one on here in the third moves the game
ready checks Balinger. Okay, let ball two track pitch man
Farmer short enough that time, as though he was going
to bunt, took a breaking ball outside, So it's one
and two, just tuning in. In the first inning with

(47:14):
two outcome many triple that extended his World Series batting
streak to thirteen games. He was standard. And then Oliver
let off of the double in the second and Robertson
singled him home and Clementy homered over the right Fia
wall in the third, one two pitch Palmer bunch it
and Bobby Moose will go to the first pace where
Cash has it. So on the sacrifice, Blander moves into

(47:37):
second and becomes the first Baltimore base winner to get
that far. Now here's, of course, earl weaver Jim Simpson
trying to just get one run in and the opportunity
is presented as Beauti produced single in the first inning,
stands in then one hit, surrounded by Moose, now the

(48:05):
second base runner blanderon on the walk. Hubert had left
hand better pirates playing the full sun begins to break
out a little bit more, but the lights are still
on here at Memorial Stadium, Kevner very close to the

(48:30):
line at third her end is almost behind second on Uford.
There's a sinking pits low ball one one ball Tho
strikes delivery, backed up and went over to the inside

(48:53):
corner for a strike. Looked like it was going to
be inside the rupert, but the ball just ran out
on the plate and a count of one and one.
Again Bobby moves Ready checks Falanger out at second fastball
this time and he missed with it two and one. Hilford,

(49:19):
considered to be one of the finest leadoff batters in
all of baseball batted on the season at two ninety
had nineteen homers fifty four runs batted in ball two,
strike one, and it's filed away to the left as
he came in on him that time, right in on
the thighs, and the count is two and two. Baltimore

(49:51):
has now gone nineteen and two thirds innings without scoring
a run, and all the more fans, of course, wonder
just how long that can keep up. I'll moose again
ready on the two two pick and he strike came
out with a fastball right in the wheelhouse. That is

(50:14):
his second strikeout, and so at the end of three
innings of play, Pittsburgh two runs on five hits, Baltimore
no runs on one hit.

Speaker 9 (50:21):
When I was a little girl, I remember where Silerno
better cookies on my finger like a ring. We used
to eat the petals one by one. But now the
Lerno makes so many new things. I wonder what kids
do with them.

Speaker 4 (50:35):
Clear and short, short.

Speaker 5 (50:42):
And the wind yielder.

Speaker 4 (50:45):
We ran the cookie a race. Thanks returning this became
the animals.

Speaker 9 (50:59):
R.

Speaker 5 (51:03):
Silerno knows how to make good old fashioned cookies, and
we still make them.

Speaker 4 (51:07):
Come to think of it, when it comes to.

Speaker 1 (51:08):
Quality, you still got us right where you want us,
wrapped around your little finger.

Speaker 4 (51:19):
Got you you are.

Speaker 3 (51:21):
WGN Radio is presenting every broadcast of Game six of
the nineteen seventy one World Series between the Pittsburgh Pirates
and the Baltimore Orioles on WGN Radio in Chicago.

Speaker 4 (51:34):
Up three games to two of the Pittsburgh Pirates leading
this ball game out to score two to nothing, and
of course they win. Today it is all over. Bob Robertson,
Manny Sanghian and Jackie Hernandez to face Jim Palmer here
in the top of the fourth inning, Bob, and time
is running out on the oils, and you point about
something you can now make it twine a row. Baltimore
hasn't scored a run. Well, there's Bob Robertson, who was

(51:56):
single and picked up his fourth series hit, driving in
his fifth series run back in the second inning. That
single followed a double by Hal Oliver. Palmer delivers and
he's way outside ball one. It is three or nine
now down both lines and then falls not gradually the
three sixty three ninety and four to ten the one

(52:18):
zero pitch. Here's a fastball affonese count of one on
one Baltimore. I feel shading Robertson the pool one one pitch,
started to go for it, took it outside and low,
and it's fall two strike one. Jim Palmer comes straight

(52:39):
over hand two ball, one strike delivery, change up hit, foul,
twisting out of plate at the right up into the
seas Plight's lead to nothing here in the fourth inning,

(53:04):
to two delivery and there's a base at the left
right in the gap between Robinson n Blinger, and that
is the sixth hitt of the ball game. And thereafter
Jim Palmer with a vengeance. Now, Manny Sanghian, who single
back in the second inning, will be the better san

(53:31):
Gien will be played to the right. The left fielder
Buford is getting him about eighty feet of the left
field line, and san ge In, on occasion, when he
gets his pitch, has been known to rip ferocious shots
right down the left field line outside as they fitch
him away. Fall one one, ball no strikes. San Gian

(53:57):
dances to get out of the way of an inside pitch.
But it's two and zero now there's a little activity
getting ready in the Baltimore bullpen's been up once already,
Ball two and no strikes. Sangi In hitting a high
foul up along first boot Poal may have a play
drifts over and in there one out. The same two

(54:26):
men left handed Grant Jackson, right handed Dave Leonard are up,
and I think Jim Simpson, particularly with Dave Leonard, he's
pitched as many innings in the bullpen as any of
the Baltimore players through the front to five games. Fernandez,
who's been a surprise hitter for the parts with four

(54:46):
base sets Robertson off first base swinging the mess strike one,
light's leading two, and I think as they play in
the top half of the fourth inning, Hernande has had
three home runs on the regular season and twenty six runs,
batted in job in most of his runs against Philadelphia,

(55:07):
and hit all three of his home runs against Philadelphia
at Veteran Stadium. There's a foulback in a kind of
strike two and two. He's from Cuba. He's still trying
desperately to get his mother out of Cuba. Most of
his brothers and sisters by now have been reared, and
he's doing his best to get her out of there.

(55:28):
He now resides in Miami, Florida. No balls, two strikes,
and the O two pitch is a change curve in
there for a strikeout. So that is the second strikeout
for Palmer. And we'll bring up Bob Moose my bunny
been me second inning for a sacrifice. Robertson the runner
at first base, two men down and the Pirates leading

(55:55):
by the score of two to nothing. Most being played
very definitely is a right field better takes a fastball
streaking in at the letters for a strike. Armor right

(56:16):
back with another fastball, this time below the knees. One ball,
one strike on the one one delivery, hammering swing and
account of a ball and two strikes. Sun now beginning

(56:39):
to break out very pleasant day here in Baltimore. One
two pits and there's a chopper down to boot fowl
and he takes it unassisted to retire aside. So the
pirates stand another runner and that they've done in every inning.
So it's no runs, one hit, no errors, and a
man left and we go to the bottom of the four.

(57:00):
Let's burk two in Baltimore. Nothing.

Speaker 5 (57:03):
Let a three time ND five hundred winner and current
National driving champion tell you why he asks for Pennzoil
motor oil.

Speaker 4 (57:10):
Hi, I'm Johnny Rutherford.

Speaker 5 (57:11):
We use pens oil in the race car for top
engine protection at high speed, but in my own.

Speaker 4 (57:16):
Car, I want engine protection plus good gas mileage. That's
why I'm more of a.

Speaker 5 (57:20):
Pens oil fan now than ever. Because pens oil does
save gasoline. You see pensoil engineers have made it even
more slippery.

Speaker 4 (57:28):
This means there's less friction where.

Speaker 5 (57:29):
Engine metal meets engine metal, so the engine runs easier.

Speaker 4 (57:33):
And the easier an engine runs, the less gasoline it
drinks up. Johnny Rutherford knows gas saving pens oil. There's
quality in every extra mile available in ten W thirty
and ten W forty. Along with Bob Prince lister. Jim Simpson,

(58:05):
I'm the bail ould call here in the Royal said
it was tarred for the Oils have not done much
charging and the last twenty eating Bob, they had no
runs and only four hits against Pirate Cittons. Dave Johnson
are wrapped into a double play back in the first inning,
leads it off for Baltimore in the port as they
present Johnson, Powell and Frank Robinson. Bobby Moose works to

(58:28):
the right hand batterers right over the plate with the
fastball taking all away Pittsburgh leading to nothing the old
wonder they hits fowl over to the right out of play.
Bobby Moose is most aware of the fact that on
deck is Boog Powell, so it removes him from the
Pirates standpoint to keep Johnson off the dates fat leading

(58:52):
off here in the port snub ball two strikes to
Dave Johnson, a very superior second baseman. The old two
delivery is pulled back the Moose. He can feel his
position beautiful, he does and close over one house. Jim Simpson,

(59:14):
I know you've done a lot of football, and you've
seen those halfbacks that can give it a leg and
take it away and everything doesn't Moose remind you much
of that terrific Bob great reflectes you. You look for
reflections in the third bases, not that kind of reflect
in the picture, not that kind of mood. Luke Powell
fly out rather deep the right field in the first inning,
the enfield shift is on. Time has been called Hernandez

(59:36):
wants ed two doll called time. I believe he wants
to get his sunglasses readjusted out there tabner is a
good thirty feet wide of would be playing what would
be the whole position. It's short on Boob bive Moose

(59:57):
works to him out of swinging a mess, and that
had to hurt his hand. Just tell right then that
hurts that hand the big baller playing an obvious team.
Best example of how when you swinging message try to
just try to throw a golf ball sometime real hard.
You just don't have that that resistance that you have

(01:00:19):
to have. And that had to hurt Boob that time.
The ball's and to strike to pitch and his baking
balls inside below and he needs the ball one strike,
one count, right's lead here two and nothing one out

(01:00:39):
and on. In the fourth inning, one ball, one strike pitch,
there's a high property shallow center back goes Hernandez and
he's there, and it stood down to Frank Robinson. They strike,
got victim in the first inning, Pittsburgh leading to nothing

(01:01:00):
in the game. That's for them, that taking win. We'll
send him home with their second World championship in eleven years,
and in the series almost is unbelievable as the one
in which they defeated the Yankees in nineteen sixty. I
complete reversal of form thus far in the series. So

(01:01:20):
Frank Robinson the batter, and as the ball hit out
right toward body, Clementy comes up to get it, and
those has a very quick one two three innings. We
go now to the top half of the pet that
ain't the Pirates of Pittsburgh leading the Oriols of all
the more two than nothin.

Speaker 1 (01:01:36):
Game six of the nineteen seventy one World Series.

Speaker 5 (01:01:38):
Continues after this, meet Button Gwinnette, two hundred and forty
years old, the least known and only living signer.

Speaker 4 (01:01:44):
Of the Declaration of Independence.

Speaker 10 (01:01:45):
Mister Gwinnette, call me Button, Button to what do you
attribute your long life?

Speaker 8 (01:01:49):
An apple a day really work for me? Early to
bed Reordy to Rise helped.

Speaker 5 (01:01:53):
A lot more than it helped Ben Franklin, who said that,
did you know?

Speaker 4 (01:01:57):
I know?

Speaker 8 (01:01:57):
I also avoid unhealthy health habits like.

Speaker 4 (01:02:00):
The plague anything else. I try to avoid plague too well.

Speaker 10 (01:02:03):
Today there's a lot of confusion over what's good and
bad for health.

Speaker 4 (01:02:06):
It's a mish mid Well.

Speaker 10 (01:02:07):
That's why the US Public Health Service is offering a
free health style checklist.

Speaker 4 (01:02:10):
It's designed to clear the air on many health hazards.
We used to have such clear air.

Speaker 10 (01:02:14):
I mean, the booklet helps clear the air of confusion
over what's good what's bad for health.

Speaker 8 (01:02:18):
Well, I took that health style quiz. With my healthy attitude,
I could live another century, give or take a decade.

Speaker 4 (01:02:25):
Great.

Speaker 10 (01:02:26):
If you want to get into health right, Health Style
Box forty seven, Washington, DC to four four say it, schlore.

Speaker 8 (01:02:31):
I still write with a quill pin.

Speaker 10 (01:02:33):
Health Style Box forty seven, Washington, d C.

Speaker 4 (01:02:35):
Two O four to four. You runna, I'm rich. Sure,
you're an old man.

Speaker 8 (01:02:38):
I'll take it.

Speaker 4 (01:02:41):
Top of the pippenning in the thick Game of the World,
thereas the memorial kidding in Baltimore the Pirates, thanks to
a double by Oliver the singer by Bob Robertson and
a home run bike when he leaves the oils by
the store. Two to nothing. As Dave Tat steps in
against the birds gin Palmer, Bob Dave tashed up for
his bird time all for two takes a breaking ball down,
oh ball one. Cash popped up the first in the

(01:03:02):
first inning, popped up the second base in the second inning,
this time hit the chopper of the shortstop. Billinger, hit
the bill high. Hopey throws on the boot powel, and
there's one y now, Richie Heavener, who fried the center
and popped the short stands in the lease the center

(01:03:29):
palmer of the left hand batter just tied him up
a little bit. He had an inside out swing that
time and filed it off to the left, a very
control swing basically by Heavener. The old one pitch sh
and it's hide away for the ball. Yes, tremendous risks.
And basically that's from two things which you've heard much

(01:03:49):
about playing hockey and digging graves. One one delivery swinging
a miss strike two one ball two strikes farmer right
back with a fastball, crowded him right in on the

(01:04:11):
fist on the count of two and two. In the
second inning, Hale Oliver doubled Robertson's shorting. Then in the
third Clementy Singer home run over the right field pavilion
out there and that made it to nothing. And Clement
he has a triple and a home run and as
many at bat is the leading batter in the series

(01:04:31):
with eleven three ball two strikes. Now to Heavener, Jim Palmer,
the right handed ready kicks, delivers and he's ball poured upstairs.
And now Hendrick is gonna write they want an appeal.
That comes herl Weaver. They're going to ask Keviller to
appeal to the first day umpire next to Shylack. They're

(01:04:51):
not complaining about the strike that normally with the automatic
ejection from the game, and he wants Kevler to look
down to that's to Shatack can get a ruling. It
is true that Heavener shot at his swing and chucked
up it, in the opinion of Kibler and Falmer has
now issued his first walk now in the game that

(01:05:14):
he won. He walked earlier in this series, in the
second game he walked eight. This is the first walk here,
so because again have another man on. They've had a
man on at every inning. And here's Bobby Clmenty with
a triple on a home run, tripled right up the

(01:05:37):
middle of a tremendous blast and the home run went over.
They had a Frank Robinson at the three sixty month
just kept going in right field one as over his
head for the ball. That wasn't what you'd call a
real knockdown fitch, but it went in over his head.

(01:05:57):
And Clmenty has been known on things where you think
on a curveball like that, many observers say you never
knock a man down with a curveball. But Magley never
heard about that. One ball, no strike pitch and Bobby
filed back stepped back a little bit that time one
and one. That was just a lazy curveball by Jim

(01:06:18):
Palmer who slept and came in over his head. There
was no intention whatsoever to rush him back. One ball,
one strike, Kevin Ruth. First pirates lead to nothing. We're
in the fet body drives a deep toward signer. Retmond
is right there and has it forty out, so they
finally get so many outs. He made good contact right

(01:06:41):
at Redmond. Now with two down, here's Willie straddle. Willie
is over too. Has been ominously quiet as far as
Pras fans are concerned. He hit forty eight home runs
in the regular season. Pittsburg leading two to nothing with

(01:07:02):
two down, and run around here in the fifth inning
and Palmer upstairs to him, ball one. This game moving
right along. That's far as Both Palmer and Moose waste
no time in coming to the plate with their pitches.
Now to one O. The Stardi old tail to the
outside corner for the call stank and it's one on

(01:07:24):
one one ball one, strike quick though the first and
Bobby Robertson, or rather Richie Heavener is back. Very little
move on the part of a runner at first. Was
stargel up there the one one delivery I changed in there,
strike two one and two. Pirates have two runs on

(01:07:53):
sixth SIPs oreols, no runs on one gen Palmer ready
one to the statue, swinging on Horsepase stuck him out
on a fastball, and I got him a Pirates land
of runner, no runs, no hits, no errors, and a
man left and regarded the bottom half of the theft,
and the Pirates lead the are all stood and nothing

(01:08:15):
your long could die at first this summer if it
has to depend on the weather to get the water
at need. But be sure you've got quality hoses you
can depend on from True Value Hardware stores Hi fat
some are all to tell you.

Speaker 5 (01:08:26):
True value nylon reinforced vinyl hoses are designed to stand
up to the heat and remain flexible in cold weather.
And right now you can get their sixty foot True
Value Hose for nine ninety nine or the Super Rugged
seventy five foot lenk for fourteen ninety nine.

Speaker 4 (01:08:39):
Both have five eight inch inner diameter and are available
only from participating True Value Hardware stores.

Speaker 6 (01:08:49):
Dscul half.

Speaker 4 (01:09:09):
Real as merv. Redmand steps to the flight. Here's the
voice of NBC Sports, Jim Simpsons. Thanks Bob Prince. Bob
Moose's first pitch cutout and filed by Redmonds. Strike one.
As we go to the last of the fifth inning,
Kuta nothing. The Pirates moves right back with the fastball.
It's too high. It's one ball too trice. The Oroyls

(01:09:32):
have now gone twenty one World Series innings with no
runs and have only four hits over those twenty one innings.
Lose today and it's all over. They head for Tokyo
to play an exhibition series over there, not as the
World champions if they lose today, rather as the runners
up in the World Series. Bob Moose, the sixth different

(01:09:55):
Pittsburgh starting pitcher in six World Series games, back ready
again breaking pitches of strike in if letters. This was
done by the Dodgers years ago they started six different
starters against the Yankees, and then Johnny Potter has came
back in the seventh game to beat him. One ball
too shrikes, letting them the right handed batters things that

(01:10:16):
are breaking. Pitch Chan has bowed off to the leftward
of the oil dugouts and goes into the dugouts. Pirates
have their two runs on tickets. One of them are
home run by Robota Tonetti, who was also tripled, and
Baltimore's lead off batter in the first sitting, Buford single
the race on a double play. There's been one base
runner since that was Mark Blange and the third who
walked right. This killa may have been, and what sudden

(01:10:41):
we had has now gone breaking picture is too high.
It's two balls too strikes. Bob Princehildi, both Jim Palmer
and Bob Moose currently on the man are working very fast.
All that John exceptional control thus far, and that is
mood is strong too. Not the blazing basketball, but excellent control.

(01:11:01):
Two two pitches up and then tight ball three fight
two of the merv repmand Retland has a free run
homer in the World Series. Hernandez the short stop plays
repland to hit the ball up the middle, plays it
over near second by big gap between Hernandez the shortstop

(01:11:22):
and Heaven. A third moves back three to two, foul
of the stream. Retmand third in the American League this year,
behind Tony Oliba and Bobby Mercer, in hitting with a
three eighteen average. Baltimore all year long employing a four
outfield outfielder systems. The fourth man not playing the day

(01:11:44):
great center fielder's Paul Blair back with a three to
two pitch again ground ball up the middle back for
a backhanded play has passed the corner person got it.
They have cast roaming far to his right. The backhand
the ball near second base on the grass, wheeled him

(01:12:04):
through and got Reckman, who has pretty good speed getting
down the first base. And here is put Robinson. Robinson
rounded to Robertson to end the second inning. Pool on
a breaking fist down of it up the right side
of the infield. One out on the last of the
fifth those stars of the past ballots. When it hits
to the right, they tip the right fee second hit

(01:12:29):
off Bob Moon and here comes Elly Henry, the big,
strong home run hitting left handed hitting Baltimore testing the
brother Conetti backs up a few steps out in right field.
Oliver Quick is over the right center field and Hernandez

(01:12:51):
goes almost to second base from the short stop position.
Aired gool then begins to get busy swinging. Henry that
and we've got a brand new ball game. Bob Johnson
up and throw it. He's a starter here breaking bitch
down low and away. Tangem pastic ball on to Henry

(01:13:11):
and Luke Walker, who has also started the game. Blue
Warmer series stutters are now warming up and the Bucco
Bulton first time. That's an actor and Ursh doesn't want
to let this game get away. Baltimore is trying to
get back in the game. The pitch in low, it
falls to the Henrys. Burt Robinson on it first with
one autumn It's two nothing ball game. We are in

(01:13:33):
the last of the fifth. Now Fernandez has actually gifted
to the first base side out second Vegas. He's moved
over a couple of more steps. Good over the counts.
Lewis Crows popped up. Thou probably will get out of play.

(01:13:54):
But Header's gonna come over and see near the oil dugout.
But it's a p police five rose Bucks, two balls,
one try ll Hunters. The third base goat of the
Oars was cutting Ricky forget it, don't go after it.
But Hepner, you'll recall for the final out in that
five to one ball game. The beauty Bitch by Steve
Last on Tuesday up in Pittsburgh climbed up into the

(01:14:14):
seat that made a catch for the big out of
the nineteennings. The ball's one trick Hedrick Wake moves out
of the stretch, fastball's river tin of field. Oliver's over
to right ten and now comes over to the left
gond and taptain glove and takes it for the second
hour Baltimore. The third game had three days hits. They

(01:14:42):
lost that game. In the fourth game, which they lost,
they had four hits in Game five against Nelson Files
They've only could manage two hits, and there to day
they have two more gains. That's a total of eleven
hits since Game three. Blake plan Drew walked on the
three one hitch back in the third, But Robinson's still

(01:15:03):
on on first base. Now two offers the last the
fifth or the two nothing balder if Jeff misses outside
fastball like one. They played Blander, who had no home
runs at all during the nineteen seventy one season, A
little bit around the right, the hit of the opposite
field and Billy Shalloon Loo's back inside this guy, I'm

(01:15:27):
two and oh. Then he went two and oh on
Hendrick and then got him on the line drive to
left center field. What's Robinson is the first fitch you
saw the fifth innings on a first base with a
basen loose righty throwing two and oh. It is in
under the hands. Inside it is ball three. No fight,

(01:15:50):
Palmer is on deck, nobody is warming in the oil bullpen.
But its's ball four. Here could change o Weavers as
Bruce Robinson would move down to second base and march
Lander was tying run to be on a first three
and a and he's taking all the way, and he
takes the strunk. Now he sets out to look down

(01:16:10):
at Billy Hunter again to see whether or not he
should take again. On three balls, one strike, Robinson moves
off his first base, not being held on the back
by Robertson. That's up under the skim ball four brus
Robinson goes down to second, Mark Orlander with a second
walk in the ball games, and with two outs, Jim

(01:16:34):
Palmer will hit for himself. Oh, we were not going
to have vent for hitting strength. With two out and
Brooks John at second and Michael Lanze on it first,
a Palmer a twenty game winner, Greg fastball. Yes, now

(01:16:56):
this ball game is not out of hand yet, that's
good enough. Weavers decided to keep him rather than to
go to his bullpenders. Last time. A Palmer sacrifice the
ball long at ten dollars. Farmer looks down at Billy

(01:17:18):
Hunter and they might have Jim taking a few pictures
along the way. Here he began to get aboard with
a walk and Bob Princetoga. He walked twice to drive
and runs from the game that he won last Monday
eleven to three, swinging though and would foul back to
the screen and runs up under our boot. One ball,
one fight, Bob Johnson, the right hander, Luke Walker, the

(01:17:39):
left enders still out on the Pirate bulltender. Johnson started
the second game against Palmer, and of course Luke Walker
started that night game on Wednesday, winging the miff set
of dames and at one ball, two players. It was
Walker that blew ethan the leaves on Wednesday night, and

(01:18:01):
it's but the superb job and running the fourth game
of the World's Thirty Moves in his first real jam.
First time Baltimore has had a couple of base runners
in the ball games, and he piked out Palmer and
is out of a dam. Palmers spiked out with Robinson
at second and blandraw on a third. ALN's one hit

(01:18:24):
Noah than two F's one five bullets. The Pirates doom Baltimore.

Speaker 2 (01:18:27):
Other Game six of the nineteen seventy one World Series
continues after this.

Speaker 5 (01:18:36):
The mairebless melons. That's what you'll find in Jewele's farm
stand marketing. Look for our bright yellow canary melons. They're
extra sweet and juicy. Surprise yourself with Santa Claus melons.
They look like watermelon outside and honeyed you inside, choose
paint fleshed persians, cool golden cassavas, and of course you

(01:18:57):
want the favorite candlop scoop out half and crown it
with sweet ice cream.

Speaker 4 (01:19:02):
It's the nicest way to cool a hot summer day.

Speaker 5 (01:19:05):
Through Wednesday, large candalope netweight twenty eight ounces are only
fifty nine cents each. And for hotcakes or shortcake or
whatever you please. Our plump and ripe farm stand blueberries
are the best. Through Wednesday. They're only seventy nine cents
a pint. All of these summer delights and more are
waiting for you now to enjoy one of each corner

(01:19:26):
basketful from the farm stand market at Jewel.

Speaker 4 (01:19:29):
That's some pickens.

Speaker 3 (01:19:34):
WGN Radio is presenting every broadcast of Game six of
the nineteen seventy one World Series between the Pittsburgh Pirates
and the Baltimore Orioles on WGN Radio and Chicago.

Speaker 4 (01:19:46):
And duping along with Bob Hunt and the boom they
have as they clear of bases here and drag that enfield.
At the end of the fifth inning, a young, pretty
younger I named Linda ware Hunt. We'll go out and
sleep all the bases, and then she will go to
the third base coach and most of the time he
will kind of dustin this que But some of the time,

(01:20:07):
and she did down here last Monday, he will sweep
dirt onto the opposing coach's shoe. The blue you heard
was at Frank Koziak and said the coach just waited
until young Linda Waerheim disappeared down the lefteal line before
he decided to come out now here. That man on
base or had timent on bass for the first time

(01:20:27):
since the first inning of the fourth game, when they
scored three runs. Throw Weaver did not go to e bench,
allowed Palmer to back for himself, and he struck out swinging,
and that threat for the first time they've had that
China threat since the fourth game, has gone right down
the drain. Here is hal Oliver, who has doubled and
scored ahead of Robertson single in the second inning and

(01:20:47):
grounded out in the third in things like one fouled off.
Falmer wants a new baseball Big Bob Robertson, who is
two for two to day in his home state of Maryland,
waits gone day two to nothing. The Pirates Bomber back
and throws the fast ball left field. Buford dropped a
few steps over and back to his left and takes

(01:21:09):
it for the first out. And here's Robertson rove in
the run. Le Oliver, who had doubled the right center
with a base hits in the second and singles to
lead off the fourth and was left there as the
next three men went down in a row. Before Jim Palmer,
they played Big Bob and Uppercut swinger way around the

(01:21:31):
left Lamb is the poll hitter, although the infield does
not shift against him. Then there's a swinging tow tip.
Take one John Kidler behind the plate today, and that's
the Shynac who will be behind the plate that there
is to tomorrow. Down at first, dase ed twoed All
at second, John Wright the Empire third, Ed Bargo along
the left field line, and Jim Otemlong the right field line.

(01:21:52):
Change handed out of the trike going too high to
Bob Robertson one ball one trike Bomber ready, so the
fastball popped up may get out of play and does
to the right behind the Pittsburgh dugout very deep in
the seat. Robertson drove in sange In in the second

(01:22:13):
to the other Pittsburgh run, and the only other one
of the ball game came in the third when Roberto
Cunetti hit a home run to right theer one ball,
two flights, farmer draws line ride right at Marchamanza's short
stop shoot down. Robertson hit the ball very hard and

(01:22:34):
he moved at one side or the other. Questionable whether
or not Blander could have gotten it those right to it.
Here's many Fangeans wilt the single in the center and
the second inning and fouled out the boom cowl and
the poor one for two. Dangian, as you know by
now listening or watching the World Series, is not up

(01:22:56):
there to take a lot of pictures. He is up
there to swing, and swings at the first pitch and
thousand backs. San gain has stayed true to form in
this World Series in a back twenty one times officially
and hasn't walked once. Take one pitch is a breaking
pitch way outside one ball one strike to San Gians.

(01:23:19):
Three nineteen hitter during the regular season has a lifetime
average of better than three hundred. Palmer working very fast,
high fastball fouled at the place by Sandie. Palmer's fastball
is a high fastball, and of course the nationally gumpires
are well, it's a low ball league, is what it is.
And Palmer in his other game last Monday, had a

(01:23:39):
little trouble with his control. He's had back problems and
until he gets that back loose and relaxed, the ball
stayed much too high. And of course he walked a
bundle of people eight little Chopper Blander short stop ready.
So it was on the first to get the seedy
Tan game, but power put us off the bag. Take.

(01:24:02):
Dangian is one of the quickest catchers we've scenes in
recent years. Danny Murta, I'm talking about it. That's the
base hits the giving that he simply beat it out.
Daddy Marton, talking about Sangian on the Pittsburgh Dents the
other day, was saying that, believe it or not, Walker
Cooper when he came up with the Cardinals years ago,

(01:24:23):
was faster than Tangian. And so Tangian is on of
the seventh base hits and boottal who was kneeling in
foul territory op first base to retie his white shoe
I think is also saying something to Nester Shyla. Like
the first day Dumpire he run seven hits No Rors

(01:24:48):
for the Pirates, No One, two hits the Noels of Baltimore.
Bob Print and I have a television monitor in our boots,
and they replaced it. It was close, oh so close.
Jack Hernandez, who bought it into a force play in

(01:25:09):
the second and look at a change up curve drop
over for slight three in the fourth is up on
this monitor. Boog Powell's having all kinds of trouble getting
his right shoe back on. And I'm sure it's happened
to many air travelers to take their shoes off and
about four hours later find their feet have swowed them
a little bit. Didn't get the shoe on. Boog is
still operating. He's had to unlace the entire matter to

(01:25:29):
get that right foot three. In case with the Bolimore Sweet,
you know there's a stood that Bobby Gold brought the
Entertennan sells Bob about Boog power. When he was playing
for Key West. Bobby was playing for a team up
in Northern Florida, and when they came up, they didn't
know how to stop the fitting of George Meyer. Now
in the National Football League is the quarterback and be
hitting a boog Pale, And I'll tell you about what
happened in the moment. Here's the pitcher, Hernandez. It's a strike.

(01:25:52):
They think it. The only way that Boog had not
hurt him is if he did not play. So they
swiped his shoes. And the manager of the Key West
team refused to play against Babbi Go's Go's team until
they got some shoes. So they went down and got
a sporting good store owners. They opened up his store,
given the biggest pair of tennis shoes he had in
the place he played, And I asked Bobby Hobby, do
he So there's still two home runs somewhere in the

(01:26:14):
orbit over northern floods, two storys. One strike to count
to Hernandez, as Palmer checked over keeping Sanghian, who has
stolen a couple of bases. Here he has to dive back.
Now he's stolen two bases in this World series. Now
the word is around the Pirate bench when they get
a man on base, they're liable to let him go
at any time. They have had great success in running

(01:26:36):
against the Baltimore catching Fittsburgh to Baltimore nothing. We are
in the top of the sixth of the sixth game,
and the way it's going now could be the last.
Hernandez straightaway center field. Redman has to come in. Johnson
goes out now and he is the one that takes
it in short light center field runs one, he hits,
NOAs and now the Pirates in this series is left

(01:27:00):
fifty six men on the He go to the last
of the sixth Pittsburgh two, Baltimore up here away with

(01:27:26):
Jim Simpson five Prince from Memorial Stadium in Baltimore, mary
and Maryland in the sixth game of the World Series,
which can be over if the players can win it.
We'll go to the seventh and Baltimore comes back in
the ballgame. Thus far it's Pittsburgh two runs, seven hits,
no errors, Baltimore no run, two hits and no errors.
As Don Ruport leaves it up five mooses pitching, and
here's Jim Simpson, thanks Bob Prince. Twenty two innings. Now

(01:27:49):
the Oils have gone without a run in this World Series.
Suport let off the ball game with a single, later
a race on a double play and fuck out swinging
at the fastball. In the third Bob Moose the sixth
different pirate daughter as in two to nothing and droves
the fast ball. It's too low. It's ball one to
Rupert Hefner, knowing Duport percentage better than forty one percent

(01:28:11):
of the time. Is the lead offf batter he got
on base in nineteen seventy one. That's the kind of
leadoff batter he is. Hepner comes in at third base,
back of the fast ball at Salve Dyke. It's one ball,
one strike. Oriols only have two hits, and since they
left Baltimore last Monday to go play up in Pittsburgh,

(01:28:34):
they've only had a total of eleven hits. They had
fourteen singles in that second game. When ball one strike,
fir Can pitch it's something off of it. It stays outside.
Two balls, one strike to Don Duport, with Davy Johnson
swinging a bat, kneeling on Beck and Thendez over their

(01:28:56):
second base. The shortstop fast ball, it's too high. With
three ball, one strike, Moses lost two men. I should
say one man twice, Mark Flandren the third and the fifth.
Other than that is control as an excellent. Now he's
three and one on Bupert, who takes all away and
takes the strike revolves two strikes. Bob told you moved.

(01:29:18):
If you take away those intentional walks that he gave
up throughout the season, average are runnering less than two
runs for nine innings, but Bob moves average giving up
ten hits for nine inns. We've all two strikes. Cold
foul him of the seats down the right deal. Lie
bounces back out onto the playing deal and the brother
Clemette will have to retrieve it. If there is to

(01:29:41):
be a seventh game, it will take place at two
o'clock Eastern times tomorrow. Baltimore's laws prevents the starting of
a sporting event on a Sunday before two pm. They've
all two strikes to Rupert. Now the Baltimore fans realize
they got to get in business and again to clap
it up. I'm back with the fastball, ride deep to

(01:30:01):
right field. But Forbady, his back watching as his cool

(01:30:24):
Don Tilford, who hit a home run off Bob Moved
in his last well his first appearance from the series,
has come back with his second home run off Bob
moved deep to right field. It's a two to one
ball game and dilated with Billy Hunter. Here is Johnson's
taking strike, dolated with third base coach Billy Hunter, that

(01:30:45):
he moved out into the baselines and Milford almost fixed
and fell over him as he potted around third base.
Those working very fast back with the breaking fits Hi
had their breaks off third base. Can't hold on to
us great Johnson and Walker continue to wald up what
have been a difficult play for Hepner of all bounced
one behind the mound and it is an era. Are

(01:31:08):
Heapner left handed and Walker right handed? Bob Gaunson up
and going again, Tudo on the oils. Now realize that
they've got a way of again. They go all the
way to the saddle game. They're down by a run.
We are jumped in the last of the thing and
here comes big boog Powe. We've only had two hits

(01:31:30):
and twenty times of back and one are of yards
traveling those torn fibers in the back of his right hand,
but still with lots of power last hand against the
right handed moved those cloths and power rounds one foul
down the first day slide and rolls out, bangs off
the Tarpolan rolled up in shroud right field on strike
to power andandez over on the first day side of

(01:31:55):
second Hepner slang about where the truck stops in the
hall would be, and he's the only man between second
and third. All a dead poll hitter, Moose close that's
in under the hands too low one ball one stripe
Baltimore fans hoping, of course that the power for Boog

(01:32:18):
Powells who with twenty two home runs to drive him
ninety runs from the stretch. Moose closed in under the

(01:32:38):
hands again to the past ball with all one price
Oils have their first run after twenty two consecutives. Gordophinnings,

(01:33:01):
the two one pitch breaking pick misses that three it
on and Bobos put hands on hips and stairs in
a John Kiddler still standing there, Sangie in turning around
asking for a change of decisions from Kitdler. You know
what those dances are, the three balls one trick. Let's say,

(01:33:29):
Boom Towel with all of that power to fight that
hurt hand gets the green white on three and one.
With Frank Robinson on deck, he's swinging round to fowl
and for the pilot dugout it's three two. Powell has

(01:33:53):
always made contract will nearly always drew up the series
to fight the fact you only have two hits. The
big slugger like that has only struck out one time
in twenty times. At back the three two picks down
ball in tried to back under the brother of Robinson

(01:34:13):
Bahir around second, aunt away the third of Dave Johnson
plenty up with the ball and those behind howel the
one at first they got wonders at Theconnor's person third
with none out an outcome Bill versions any Moon Taws

(01:34:46):
white hand man and with Frank Robinson do up this
day be all for baboos. Luke Walker and Bob Johnson
had been drawing the tig run is ninety feet away
with none out put on there by Heather's there third
base and advanced to third by Blue Powell single right
on the free two pits with Jim Simpson Bob Printer

(01:35:06):
in Baltimore and Baltimore fans now have a lot to
roar about as Bob Moose is going to have to
leave the ball game and Bob Johnson is coming in.
On the regular season, Johnson won nine and lost ten,
has had good success against the Baltimore Ball Club, but
now is right in the heart of the order with
Frank Robinson v. Redmond and books Robinson to come up

(01:35:27):
runners at first and third and nobody else. An error
charged to Heavener, as Jim Simpson describes right now, a
very costly one, because if he comes up with that
ball on Johnson, he can play off the bag on
Boog Powell and there's no way his ball is going
to get by and less there is another error. Most
is saying something that John Kevler he thought he had

(01:35:48):
Boom Pale stuck out, and he's telling him about it
on his way out. But in a game such as
ess in the World Series, of course, everything is right
down to the nitty gritty. And so Bob Johnson comes
on and Bob Moose has gone five and he's nobody
out here in the sector thus far as a lab
but one run has surrendered, a total of four base

(01:36:10):
hits has stuck out free and walked the fair. He
can win the game, he cannot, well, he could.

Speaker 1 (01:36:19):
Also lose it.

Speaker 4 (01:36:20):
Johnson, of course, has a tough job here going in
this situation Jim Simpson against a very tough batter who
at least is a very distinct threat to the game
into a tie with the fly ball. Bob Johnson continues
as warm up and Frank Robinson in the final story
we have revolving about the World Series other than the

(01:36:41):
obvious in the Pirates just far one more game than
the Eurols and not as the little byplay going on
between Frank Robinson of Baltimore supporting his field and the
Lert of Palmette, another superstar from the park, saying that
Memorial City isn't much down. Colemtty today has the upper
hand and a triple on a home run, and now
Robinson can kind of tie things up there or even
put the Oils ahead. Frank Robinson, the only man ever

(01:37:04):
to be the most viable player in both Major league
steps in. He struck out at a curve ball in
the second and line to Clementi and Wright getting the
first picks in the port. You're the one with scores
the Pirates. Johnson the tying run on the third howl,
the go ahead run at first none else, sixth inning,
sixth game of the World Series. Johnson a big call

(01:37:26):
right handed October at first phase and now throws to
Robinson hit the first pick, he pops it up and
as says he's got it at short stop. At our
one pitch, Bob Johnson gets Frank Robinson on our high
pop up to the shout stop Tom rv Retman will
grounded up twice. Right handed batter combs in. Bob Robertson yelling,

(01:37:51):
jumping to Bob Johnson, who drives off the down to hear.

Speaker 11 (01:37:54):
What it is.

Speaker 4 (01:37:54):
He has to say. The infield is not playing in
Johnson the runner now with Rude Powell rather throwing on
the first base, they are going to look for the
double play. Redland twice hits the ball on the ground.
Pal does not have great speed. Redmand has good speed
Johnson to throw the ball. It's a strike on the

(01:38:15):
outside corner. New one's on. Seven hits for the Pirates
that have committed the narrow. We don't know whether or
not yet it is a costly one. It's at least
put Pittsburgh in the hole for the moment. One run on.
Four hits from Baltimore and they are knocking at the
door in the sick n get tied up. Johnson goes
it's another strike. Two called strikes. Redmond has taken both

(01:38:39):
of them about letter high on the outside cars. Johnson
goes a flatter and a curve and a fastball. Bob said,
we had excellent luck, had good fortune picking against the
oil whiles with Kansas City in the American League a
year ago. Johnson now out ahead of Redmond h and two.

(01:39:02):
He can afford to move the ball around a little bit.
Comes in missus outside wave six for the sastball, low
one ball, two strikes Walker and now Bob Miller warning
up for the Bucko Miller, a right handed replacing Johnson,
who has come on to replace the scott of Bob
Moose ready called out on strike. That's all on the

(01:39:29):
outside par.

Speaker 1 (01:39:39):
Well.

Speaker 4 (01:39:39):
The oil cards would lack of aggressiveness, that's the plate
of these last three games. Popped out and took a
third call strike with a tying on a third base.
Now it is up to Brook Robinson and Bill Urdon's
going to come out to say something to Bob Johnson,
Bob Robinson, perhaps Bob to remind him of the scout

(01:40:00):
report on Brooks, because Robinson is probably the most dangerous
of all the oil hitters in the late in England.
Some times from that wonderful glove and great reflexes. Brios
Robinson has he is a fluck hitter. I'm the hero
of the nineteen seventy World Series. Now has a chance
to give the Oils life of the nineteen seventy one
World Series. Johnson at third, two at first, now with

(01:40:22):
two outs and Bob Johnson goes far working on a
great relief job. Robinson takes the curb ball first light
drops quite open us. Robinson holds on about that all
the way down to the bottom. It's not up there
to poke the ball the right or left? Who said?
Miller and Walker continue to warn, could have won the score.

(01:40:45):
Last of the sixth best chance the Oils have had
since the first inning of Game three in Pittsburgh. Johnson
back to throw round ball right to heaner Afler goes
to second base for the fourth, and how about that?
Bob Johnson came on with Johnson at third, Davy Johnson
brookes and none out. I'm got a one, two three,
nobody's gone. We've gone through thick, completing not the end

(01:41:06):
of thick. The Pirates Billy two to one of.

Speaker 11 (01:41:08):
The Baltimore I plan on living along in healthy life,
so I get regular cancer checkups. You see, the best
time to get a checkup is before you have any symptoms.
So please take care of yourself now.

Speaker 4 (01:41:22):
Find out which tests.

Speaker 11 (01:41:23):
Are necessary for you and when you should have them done,
because if you're like me, you've got lots of plans
and want.

Speaker 4 (01:41:29):
To live long enough to do it all.

Speaker 11 (01:41:32):
Ask for the American Cancer Society pamphlet the New Cancer
Checkup Guidelines Call eight hundred five seven two one oh
two one.

Speaker 1 (01:41:43):
If it's rare, everybody else wants it.

Speaker 12 (01:41:45):
Right, Not really, There's one thing that only one person
in eighty genetically carries and nobody else wants. That's OURP
tonightis pigmentosa or p is, an inherited disease that causes
night blindness, tunnel vision, and sometimes blindness and children and
young adults.

Speaker 1 (01:42:02):
This is Robert Merrill.

Speaker 1 (01:42:13):

Speaker 2 (01:42:14):
WGN Radio is presenting a rebroadcast of Game six of
the nineteen seventy one World Series featuring Frank and Brooks, Robinson,
Don Buford, and Jim Palmer for the Orioles, Dave cash
mannis again, and the great Hall of Famer, the late
Roberto Clemente.

Speaker 4 (01:42:35):
On your cubboard as we go. Now in of a sennphony,
it's Baltimore one run on forg it and on Bob
Murthe that run will be an earned run because of
the home run by Don Dupert. It's back of the
Jim Cinson called Youdai games. Bob both can win the game.
Johnson can pick up the day. The Pirates have two

(01:42:55):
runs on seventy will lead now by the home run
by Glamda Jim Timpson. Palmer draws a strength on the outside,
gonna let her hide of Bob Johnson, who did a
superlative job in the last of the sixth, and Frank
Rabinson on the pop up. Here's the ground ball forward
that George got Landrup with him. He's got plenty of time.
It allows Johnson to run just a little bit before

(01:43:15):
he releases the ball and throws him out. Now we've
been talking about the fact that Fittsburgh throughout the series
has left fifty six men on base. Baltimore in the
last two innings has left two men on base. They
allowed Palmer the back with runners to first and second
in the fifth and he struck out, and with runners
to first and third and the sixth, they couldn't do

(01:43:37):
anything about that. That was a fine fitting job by
Bob Johnson, who the one. Here's catch Palmer ready to
throw fastball along away ball one. Dave Cash popped out
in both the first and second innings and then grounded
the short in the fifth, all for three. Seventh inning,

(01:44:02):
Farmer's gone all the way high fastball and it's two
and oh. Cattopsy has now begun to throw. He was
the start in the fourth game on Wednesday night, hot
on the Baltimore bullpen. Palmer throws again, gets to the

(01:44:23):
inside corners, tike one, two balls, one strike. Eleven years ago,
Bob Prince went down to the dressing room just in
case the Pirates won it. They won it. He didn't
see Maziowski's home run. Two balls, one strike. It's download
three and one and then another inning. If the sport
stays like this, Bob Prince is gonna have to leave
us again and go down to the pirategressing room. And
who knows, maybe there won't be a celebration today and

(01:44:44):
he won't see it again. Three and one back to
the fastball right. As for the three balls two strike,
the Dave Cash Farmer's been working rapidly all along. Fastball one,
big Hospy Blandra hand up in a bit now for
a Gonda Powell, and there's two out in the Pittsburgh Steplers.

(01:45:07):
I will bring up for Keepner, who's fly the center
popped to the short stop and walked on the disputed
call at earl, Weaver argued anything that Hepner had actually
not checked his swing on ball four, But John Kibler
looks down the first base Neston sharlacking over the third
of John Rice, and they supported a series going away
from Hepner. Ball one, lay Dell Rymple has raced from

(01:45:32):
the bulletin into the dugout. He is the third Baltimore
catcher not into the National League. One Balmot strike Tepner
right up to the middle that the Landers playing him
over near the second base and pulls him out, and
Palmer has one of his easier innings. As Blanga retires
to all three men alone, Pitcher ares and Baltimore comes
back for another shot in the last of the center
with the gore. The Pirates two of the Oriels one.

(01:45:54):
Do you know, mister Howell, Old Kyers takes more gas
than anybody else's in town, everything that's trading it in
with all that chrome that ought to be worth a lot. Yeah,
but look, who can buy a new car with the
prime rate so high?

Speaker 5 (01:46:07):
If the bank prime rate is scaring you out of
a new car or truck, ask your gmdader about GMAC.
GMAC has financing right now at rates that makes sense.
So get that new Chevy Pontiac, old Bewy Cadillac or
GMC truck you want, with help from GMAC, the financing
people from General Murders.

Speaker 4 (01:46:53):
And Hyper Bruce Saint Louis Well, Jim Simps from Byprans
from Memorial Stadium, and we got a game going here.
Baltimore sadding one run to two, but come up with
the lower third of the line up than Hendrix Blanger
and maybe a pinch batter pot farmer. Here's Jim Simpson.
Bob Johnson retires threeman in a row with nobody out
and runners the first and third to save the lead.

(01:47:14):
Is ready to work to Hendrick. Then it's two low ball.
One on deck is Blanger. And we have noticed that
not only is slat awlrump will come in from the
Baltimore bullpen of the dugout, but the Dave Justin Bob
Deal have gone out to the Pittsburgh bullpen. Long found
down the right field line, pulled away foul. The pits
was in on Hendrick hands and he pulled its right.
Call Justy with those thirty saves during the regular season.

(01:47:39):
Three in the championship playoffs, and he has fixed excellent
ball here in the world series has gone down a
long with Bob Deal big breaking picked up side two balls,
one franks to Hendrick the last inning in which Palmer
got the Pirates one two three, not the Pittsburgh streak
of a base runner for at least twenty consecutive innings.

(01:47:59):
Two ball, one strike popped up left side. Stargele comes
in very shallow and left field and now takes it
for the first time Mike Blander as Palmer with his
jacket on, walks out to beyond that circle. Two runs
on seven hits and a harmless era for the Pirates,

(01:48:21):
one run on four hits for Baltimore. Bob Moose has departed,
had departed leading two to one in Palmer has not
yet left. Both then pitching fine ball games. Bob Johnson
throws at the strike at the knees to Blander, who
has walked quite Johnson, the big man, ready to throw,

(01:48:45):
and throws again in on the fist and stout off
upstairs for the right, two strikes to Mark Blanzers. Kelly Briles,
who picked up the fine game on Thursday, was warming
up for a National League Championship player off against the
Giants that he couldn't do it, and Bob Johnson got
up off the bench, went down, warmed up and beat

(01:49:06):
the guns to the suprility performing accidentally sus the ball
back Ballander's trying to check his twing. It's still two shrikes.
Clang Blander's short and a little around.

Speaker 1 (01:49:25):
To the right.

Speaker 4 (01:49:28):
Johnson ready with a two strike pitch. Boll gets off
the corner. One ball, two strikes. There are a great
number of Pirate fans here. There's another ball at and
gets by sand being under his glove, rolls for the
stueen two and two. And of course you heard that
there are a great number of Baltimore fans here. As

(01:49:50):
they went to work in the last in England, Baltimore
looked the door they were going to tie up and
maybe go ahead.

Speaker 1 (01:49:58):
WG on Radio Chicago.

Speaker 4 (01:50:00):
The ball two strikes, one out on the seventh Johnson
back of the basketball, grounded to the right side. That's
going to make it through to the outfire tying run.
Mike Blands at first base, and Palmer is going to
come up well as he enough, he's standing with his
he is taking off his jackets, and if he is
to come up, it is obviously with one thing in mind,

(01:50:21):
and that is due what he did back in the
third inning. Rules that runner along and get due for
the chance to tie it up. Palmer's swinging the bat,
looking down to Billy Hunter. Heaveners already and on the
grass a third day Robertson holding against the money Bilander,
who has good speed on the home plate side of

(01:50:42):
first base, ready to break in at the pit. Jeftee
is up and Troy Palmers squares around and takes the strike.
Does not offer the pit strike one damertof pulling out
all the top, as Earl Weaver must do if he
is to stop the Pirates and get back in this

(01:51:04):
World Series and send it on to a seventh game.
Scers two to one. We're in the last of the seventh,
A little lob throw the first day, just to keep
Mark Falanger close stepne station all sixt or seven feet
in nomograss creeping in all the time. Thomas squares around
the bunt missus addict. Dan Gean looks down the first

(01:51:25):
baseman messrs Kylack, who says, no, he did not offer
it the pitch. It is ball one, one ball, one strike.
Dan Gean now looks down. The third day sometime John Rice,
of course he was blocked. And now Jim Palmer says,
I'm not quite sure that's signal Billy Hunter and walks
off to hear what it is Hunter wants him to do.
Farmer has his instructions on one ball, one strike, steps

(01:51:47):
back in one out last of the seventh. Johnson ready
looked over at so he looked as though he was
going to swing, and Sangeeon thought not that he had slung,
but rather than the ball was on the strike, Doll,
it was not two balls, one strike. Farmer again, staring Doll.

(01:52:12):
The Hunter pirates leaded by a run. They've got the
tying run. At first Johnson Ready, the ball is low
and he did not offer it again, and a pre
balls one strike, Farmer again staring the hunter, and Johnson

(01:52:32):
cutting in a little fine although on two occasions Dangeon
thought that Bob Johnson, his pitcher, had strike. A couple
of conferences Van Dean with Johnson, Farmer with Hunters. Gobby
is right here, Jim Simpson that Bob Johnson has only
one thing to do. That's blow a strike. He doesn't

(01:52:53):
dare what Palmer if he can help it, And the
question would come, what has Palmer been told? Johnson read
any Palmer there and takes the strike, made no attempt
to swing or to bun and steps out again. They
look down the body on her three balls, two strikes.
He bunted on a one ball, two strikes, sets back

(01:53:15):
in the third. It's not beyond the realm of croustill
and I squares around the bun again, strike free. He's
called out of that Palmer's hot second strike out for
Bob Johnson, and here comes Tom Uport. Last time up,
Euford helped move along the way to the showers when
he in the ball high and deeps the right for
a home run, the Ools only run of the ball game.

(01:53:40):
Uford is two for three. He has two of the
five Baltimore hits and As goes down near second base
from the short supposition, and Heavna remains in on the
grass at third base. Uford would great speed. Former fine
football player seven cows. Johnson throws in a third ball

(01:54:03):
and it's a beauty like one. Ufford watched the drop over.
Since the fifth inning, Baltimore has had Pittsburgh in trouble,
a still trailed by a run until the fiftening. Baltimore

(01:54:23):
went robert quietly with just one base hit in the
walk over the first four Johnson was the doctor and
he moved to the outside of the play. Then they
throw it outside of the fastball. It's one ball, one site.
The two Pittsburgh runs. Oliver doubled the lead off the second.
Bob Robertson singled him home. In the third, ROBERTA. Clement

(01:54:45):
he got his second hit, a home run to right field.
That's the Pirates to the Oil Juan Duport home run,
Mark Blanders still down at first base, two out, last
of the seventh, Johnson ready to throw the one one
pitch just to change down low inside two balls, one

(01:55:08):
pitch on deck is Dave Johnson. A win by the
Oils today We're back tomorrow at one forty five Eastern
time of the seventh and the Sexes game of the
World Series. A win by the Pirates today.

Speaker 1 (01:55:22):
And we all go home.

Speaker 4 (01:55:29):
There goes to runner on two to one high ball.
Then game so is down out in time bounce one
cash the lender Handan's took it on the high bound
and blamsas sole second day. Now there's the leads out
of the Pirates note book from an earlier game this
week when they tried to bump the runner over. Here

(01:55:50):
comes Bill burden Off. They tried to bump the runner over,
did not do it in Hernandez on the next pitch
to the next man. So second Burdon's coming out in
his calling for a different picture. Now Bulford, remembering is
a switch hitter. Whether they bring in the left hand
or right hander, they're simply going to turn Duport from
one side of the place of the others. He won't
get rid of him. In his three balls, one strike

(01:56:15):
and know the country and one Bob Prince, they're going
to go to the bullten. Yes, it's going to be
Dave Jesse with a pomb ball, and I think Danny
murt here is making the determination he'd rather have Rupert
up there batting right handed and he would left handed.
And particularly since basically speaking with the sinking picture and
the pomb ball that Jesse has, he can induce Rupert
to turn around and go that way. But as you

(01:56:37):
also pointed out, in the event that he walked Rupert,
that walk would be charged to Johnson. That's the first
steal of Batty Oriols. It is serious, and normally you
don't steal on Sam ye In, but that's time the
matter rip picks up a pretty good jump on Bob Johnson.
So Johnson, who pitched out of a whale of an
inning there in the sixth inning with runners at first

(01:56:59):
and third and nobody out, has now gone one in
two thirds innings, and in that time has cementered just
one basis who's stuck out one Baltimore to Baltimore Oil,
who did not walk anybody yet, But that remains on
the ledger until we see what Jesse will do here
to Duport. Dave Justice stood appearance from the world to

(01:57:21):
age he's fire innings, giving up a run, walked one
man and stuck out one, and of course should he
walk Ruport here to be guards departed Bob Johnson, but
the time run for the Oils is down at second
base with two out on the last of the seventh,
Dulford was a count of free lundating the naice of
league's great Dave Jesse. What a wi least picture he
Issse throws it is outside. He's walked. Rupert Jussey didn't

(01:57:42):
think so and cards the walk Bob Johnson and now
just can go to work on Dave Johnson, who's rounded
into a double play, grounded back to the pitcher and
reached when Hebner, shrinking towards the mount, drops his copper
one era in the six of n two runs, seven hits,
one hour for Pittsburgh, one run, five hits, no hours

(01:58:04):
of olivore Bob Miller, Luke Walker continue to throw joy
Head run now on at first base and the person
of Don Duefort speed, there's the ball breaking pitch fouled
upstairs off for the right it's strike one to day Johnson.
Johnson has had three hits in twenty one times at

(01:58:27):
bat in this series. Came into the series hitting it's
two eighty two and a career high eighteen home runs.
Out in mind, Gogill is rather deep and left. They
played Johnson pulled sprightly to the left. One strike pitch
Justy's back. It bounces in front of the plate blood
vy Stangian and then he loses it drops out in

(01:58:47):
front of the plate and umpired. John Kibler wants to
look it over, keeps the ball in play. One ball,
one strike. There is some win now the first time,
the least that I've noticed is this afternoon, and it's
flowing for home. Played out toward left. One and one

(01:59:08):
and one of the tightest of the nineteen seventy one
world to his game. Dusty throws pomball down low at
his two balls one flight. Tom Deck is the dangerous
left hander boom Towel swinging a bet Byrex leaded by
a run. Justin's trying to save the leads. Throws down
low at the knees. This guy with the palm ball
and it's two strikes the balls and two strikes Justy

(01:59:29):
keeping that ball low Justin right handed. How the Seneca
falls New York ready with a two two pits Dad,
there's a ball pumped in a short left field. Sadulin

(01:59:50):
can't get took, can't come planting with the tying run.
As the pole goes to the second it's two pis.

(02:00:15):
Those are not boos you hear boom. Pale steps up
and he can untie his game. It is two to
two and the last of the seven Pirates win. Today
the series is over. The Oils are trying to prevent
that from happening and going on to the seventh games
of all, Powell is to make that three for twenty

(02:00:35):
one single the last time up Ato three two sins.
This giant has great power. Dusty throws. There's a ball,
hulfs the left deal get. Dodo goes back. Now it
looks like he has it in range. As he gets
to the warning crack and takes it of the third
out of the tying one score. On two DAYSI there

(02:00:57):
are no errors and for the third inning in the row,
the Oil leave two men on base. At the end
of seven, the Pirates two.

Speaker 3 (02:01:04):
The oral two Game six of the nineteen seventy one
World Series continues after this.

Speaker 1 (02:01:12):
Thank you, Chicagoland.

Speaker 13 (02:01:14):

and receive your gift from the Wagner Family, a beautiful
York fur at a tremendous savings. Thank you from York
Furrier one oh seven North York rowed Elmhurst master craftsmen

(02:02:01):
doing what they do best.

Speaker 4 (02:02:09):
Well, we're into a brand new ballgame here. As we
go into the top half of the eighth inning, Palmer
who had some problems, looked like they were going to
bat for him one time and didn't look like they
were going to have to relieve him out on the mound.
They didn't invest its now up to a two two
ball game. And the ball that Johnson hit a little
looper out in the left field and they all count
just like anything else, and that drove in the run.
The run is charged to Johnson, so that now the

(02:02:32):
game belongs to Dave, Justy and Jim Palmer, and coming
to bat for the Pirates in the eighth inning will
be Clemente, Stargell, and Oliver in that order. And Clemente
has been a ball of fire as eleven hits in
this series and in this game today a triple and
a home run. So that's the way this one goes.
As we move into the top half of the eighth inning,

(02:02:53):
and without any question, we are in a way of
a ballgame. Jim Simpson, all right, Bob Comody's still kneeling
in the on deck circle. Roberto not has that triple
in the home run for the second tired run, but
his other time at that in the fifth innings, Lametti
hit the ball very hard on the line to merv
Retman and center field. So he has hit the ball
very hard to the toothless Goren and Jim Palmer again

(02:03:17):
with his work cut out Lametty, Stargle and Oliver. The
eighth innings, he runs seven hits in the harmless era
for the Pirates. Who runs six hits no Irish of Baltimore,
Jim Palmer, the one twenty lost nine during the regular

(02:03:38):
season with a two point six to eight ern run average,
third best in the American League. Ready to throw to Clemty.
Hits the ball very high, but it's not too deep.
Helford out of left center field is there and take
it a brother Cometty jumping on the first pitch, a
high pitch and drove it to left center field. Here

(02:03:58):
is Woody Starger has not had a home run in
this World Series, and he led the major leagues in
home runs and is all for three today and twice
is gone down swinging at fastball, then takes ball one
Chargo like Bloogtal, a big left handed swinger, takes a
high fastball, but a strike all up around the letters.

(02:04:22):
One ball, one strike. When Stargro struck out in the first,
it looked like he simply wasn't ready for the strikeout
pitch and gave a little half hotted swing as a
pitch down low with fastball two and one. Then he
grounded the blander in the third, and Palmer gave him
a fastball right down the alley and the fifth Stargirl
went down swinging another fastball, foutled the screen two two.

(02:04:43):
Palmer's challenging. Targan was not really hurt the Orioles all
through the series, and he did not have a good
hitting series, as you well know. In the National League
Championships against the Giants, scrink hitter and do the breakout
sometime high and away. He now has a three two counts,
No Bob, But gentlemen, I broadcast with all of you along.

(02:05:04):
Sandy Kopek says, any time you got a three and
two count that belongs to the hitter, not the pitcher.
It's all in Scargel's favor, and he fouls it off.
Bitch has got to come in with the pitcher. He
has put the goal ahead run on first base. And
when you have to come in with a pitch against Stargel,
sometimes that's not too good. Jarjo wakes palm already CROs

(02:05:29):
fouled off again to the left and upstairs. Now you
have got a corny game winner battling a forty eight
home run hitter. Both were breaking pitch drilled out to
left field. Bielford comes over back either warning, Clack reaches
up and has to put the Fandarjo goes to the

(02:05:54):
opposite field. And there was just too much crew out
there for pirate fans and Belford haul it in. Here
is al Oliver who has doubled and scored one of
the two runs. Rounded out and fly to left due
to to the score. We're on the top of the
eighth breaking fits out to right center field, Reckmand dashes

(02:06:15):
over is there and Fixture in short right center field
and Palmer gets flementing Staro and Oliver and one two
or three facts. We go to the last of the
eighth Pittsburgh to Baltimore two and Hyder Bush Saint Louis.

Speaker 3 (02:06:55):
Unless the bugs and insects and your home a paying rent,
why not a victim Hi pants A. We're old to

Both Decon sprays have earned the Good Housekeeping Seal, and
you can get them at participating true value hardware stores
and home centers well.

Speaker 4 (02:07:25):
Jim Simpson by prints from Memorial Stadium in Baltimore, and
they've been talking throughout this series about the so called
home court or home park advantage. Certainly it showed to
be that it would seem anyhow, in the first two
games Baltimore won and over to Pittsburgh where the Pirates won.
Baltimore is a team that has not lost more than
three in a row too many times, and they now

(02:07:47):
approach Jim Simpson that that time in the ball game
where a run here makes it very tough because they
still have the last of best rank Robinson, merv Retman
and Brooks. Robinson the heart of the lineup the Oorls.
Facing Dave Justy last of the eighth inning of a
two to two game. Justy, thirty saves during the regular season,

(02:08:08):
goes his first pitch. It's a strike at the knees.
Robinson says that he did not go around. John Kibler
says he did. Robinson again stares down to his coach,
Talo was Frank who sit around the batting gate yesterday Tomorrow,
We've got to show the world what kind of team
we are. We were picked to be a super team.
We've lost three in a row. You're in danger of
losing the series. Tomorrow. We've got to pick up the

(02:08:28):
bat and go out there and show the people what
kind of team we are. Robinson is over for free
today with the chance to strike a blow for balloon.
This tie game. Tom Ball is down low and away.
One ball, one strike, and Frank Robinson struck out of
the curve in the second line to Clemtian right in
the fourth and popped out to Hernandez on the first pitch.
He saw the six with runners of first and third

(02:08:51):
one to one. He went around trying to check his
swing again at an outside pitch, and Robinson has more
to say to John Kidler. It's one ball, two stripers.
Tell the Mets took the Earls in five games two
years ago. The Ools took the Reds in five games

(02:09:13):
last year. This is game six, and we may have
a seven. Did not go around this time at a
high pitch. It's two balls, two strikes, and Frank very
nearly was unable to check his swing. Then two two.
This is exactly what was predicted a Super World Series.

(02:09:38):
Justin droze off speed pitch out of the right. Bob
Robinson gives chase there the box seats over there and
cannot get it as he falls into the seats, and
right there with him was edzuit All. First runner Mester Shylak,
the first base umpire to say that the ball that
popped out of his glove, he didn't have it well.
Frank Robinson has a life of two balls, two strikes.

(02:10:00):
By the way, for those of you who keep track
of such things, this is the sixty eighth World Series
and this two two ball game is the four hundred
World Series game in history. To two pitch from Justy
swinging in a miss for a fastball high and end tight.

(02:10:21):
Justy gets his first strikeout. Robinson strikes out for the
second time. Here's Retmand rounded out twice and with runners
at first and third and went out and looked at
a third called strike. In the sixth innings, Justy throws
down low and away. Bah bah Retland does have power
and did hit eleven home runs and drove in seventy

(02:10:43):
five runs during the regular season, but is basically a
hit it off. He is just a good hitter. Thousand
one buys what ball one striking Dulford Tom run made

(02:11:04):
it two to one, and the sixth and then the
seventh Falander scored on a Johnson single airs of strike
for Redmond. One ball, two strikes, and the first steal
of the series became very important. The Landers stole second base.
Ulford later walked as he was trying to get him in,

(02:11:27):
and Johnson drove in the tying round swing hand a miss,
and Redmond goes down swinging on a palm ball. Well
as Jim Palmer did in the top of the eighth inning,
best fires, or as Dave Justy do it in the
bottom of the eighth inning, going right against the best
of the oil hitting strength, and he has struck out

(02:11:48):
Frank Robinson and merv Redmond. Here is Brooks Robinson one
for three today, seven hits in the series, hit nineteen
at bets. Dusty throws breaking pits outside. It's four one.
In the Pirate mind, it will be Bob Robertson, Manny

(02:12:08):
sangi In and Jackie Hernandez. Manny sangi In and Jackie
Hernandez back with the pitch. It misses outside, two and
on and if Justy gets Robinson two too, here's a

(02:12:28):
two and oh pitch out of the screen. The balls
one strike, you run seven. It's one hour for the Pirates.
Here in the eighth inning, to run. Six hits, no
errors for the Orioles, and the counters two and one
to Brooks Robinson. Justy's ready and throws it, just misses

(02:12:50):
and Dusty didn't think. So it is free and one
on free and one with two odd and the vase
is empty. Brooks Robinson doesn't even bother to look down
at his third base coach. He's just waiting to see,
just to come in with this, and he did go
around strike two one of a half hearted swing by
Books started a swing, started a check and went through

(02:13:12):
and the free balls. Two strikes round ball court catches
second phase off his glove, come down with it. Pros
on the first base and he's got him. The ball
ran right up, catch his arm off his glove and
he picked it out a mid of air, took it
out of his glove, and Brooks Robinson, who was not fast,
was thrown out at first base. Now Ronins hits the errors.

(02:13:33):
We've gone eight full innings, and the Pirates too.

Speaker 2 (02:13:35):
The Oriels two, Game six of the nineteen seventy one
World Series continues after this.

Speaker 4 (02:13:44):
Then the radio firscame you prea.

Speaker 14 (02:13:52):
Hight is Bob Connins hoping you'll join me weekday afternoons
from two to four, evenings seven to nine, and on
Sunday morning starting at ten, we'll play all of you
music from the carpenters to barbers, Dreisen to John Dinivers.

Speaker 4 (02:14:03):
You've done stomped on my heart and you mashed that
sucker flat.

Speaker 14 (02:14:06):
Yes, friends, I'll keep.

Speaker 4 (02:14:08):
You up to day in your favorite soap operas.

Speaker 14 (02:14:09):
You can test your musical trivia knowledge and mine and
give you a chance to strike back at any subject.

Speaker 13 (02:14:14):
If you'll just give me a call, call me.

Speaker 4 (02:14:16):
I'm so lonely.

Speaker 14 (02:14:17):
Join me wake the afternoons and evenings and Sunday mornings
at ten for the Bob Columns show right here on
deputg In Radio. I'll see you all then, friends, neighbors out.

Speaker 4 (02:14:26):
There a radio land then gee radio is my eleven
years ago, Bob Grintz up in Pittsburgh. You started down
and you did not see the Mansarowski home running the

(02:14:47):
seventh game. You must go to the progressing room now,
just didn't take And I'm sure who has some thought
as you turn your back to the moment at least
on the ball game. Well, I certainly do one thing
I learned. I'll listen to you very carefully down here
and find out what's going on. I don't want to
miss the hero of the hour in the event Fitzburg
is to win it all right, Bob. Here is Bob
Robertson to lead off the ninth and eighth. Robertson the

(02:15:08):
cars has two home runs in this World series. Jim
Palmer's gone all the way. It's ready back with the fastball,
and Robertson swings and missus. It is strike one. We
are in a two to two ball game, and it's
very simple. Pirates win it. The World Series is over
Oriols winning. There's a seventh game tomorrow, forty and seventy four.

(02:15:28):
Looking on, Palmer throws the ball in the dirt outside
palm already again up high, and it's quickly two and one.
Fifty three thousand, two d and twenty nine watched the
first ball game here in Baltimore. Fifty two hundred and
thirty nine watched the second game, so we're about eight

(02:15:50):
thousand less when we were in the two games the
last Saturday and Monday. Two balls, one strike to Robertson,
thousand of ball upstairs, off to the right. It's two
two a cloudy, rather humid day, although that it is
said that there's only a ten percent chance of rain

(02:16:11):
today or tomorrow. Matter of fact, as we came to
the stadium today listening to the Baltimore radio stations, they
were giving the weather for today's and tomorrow's seventh game,
predicting an Oil win. Big Kirk just misses inside Hendricks
kicks his foot, Palmer goes down, that almost goes hands
and knees and now stands up and looks in at
John Tibber breaking pitch inside. Robertson taking all away out

(02:16:32):
of free balls, two sites. Earl Weaver snatched off his
hat in the dugout and just buries his head. And
you know now he will feel if Robertson gets out
of this one safely. They thought they had him back
with a fastball, popped up, foul and back of home play,

(02:16:53):
out of play. You will recall, of course, that when
Bob Moose left the ball game back in the sixth
and he thought that he had a third strike call,
only to give up a single to boom Cow. And
as he left, he was saying something to John Kipper.
Still three balls, two strikes. Bomber ready throws the past
fall and strikes him out. Walk strike out for Palmer.

(02:17:20):
Et Ricord and Ed Watt are warming in the bullpins
from Baltimore. Rickard, the left handed former Dodger, and Ed
Walk the right hander two to two to the score.
Manny san Gian, who is two for three today the
Pirate catcher at bat. San Gian hits seven home runs

(02:17:42):
during the regular season and takes a home run cuts there,
but missus strike one. The Pirates love to see san
Gian hit home runs, not only because it scores a run,
but they love to see him trot the basins and
called him Turkey. He's got quite a truck outside with
the pitcher's Palmer one ball, one strike, almost run like
a pacer or is it a trotter? One on one

(02:18:07):
pitch and swing in the midst of the fastball, one ball,
two slikes. Armor was in a lot of trouble or
we were let him stay in the bat for himself,
and let him stay in when the Pirates were causing
big noises in the early innings. And now Palmer's battling
to send the Oros to the seventh game. Big curve
misses inside and it's two two. Now you get that

(02:18:30):
constant buzz from the fans, and they realize at any
moment this game can be won or lost. We are
in the ninth inning of a tie game. They play
San Gian. They hit the right back with the breaking pitch,
Missus and for the second batter in a row. Here
in the ninth inning, Farmer who threw one hundred and
sixty eight pitches in last Monday's game has gone three

(02:18:51):
to two. In the batter, Dan Gean doesn't walk, remember,
he's up there to swing and swings and bouncing the
ball on two hut the bland and over his head
makes a bad hopping.

Speaker 6 (02:19:01):
Sam Gane goes all around.

Speaker 4 (02:19:02):
He's gonna talk for second the toll. The second bat
he is out.

Speaker 1 (02:19:14):
This is WG and Radio Chicago.

Speaker 4 (02:19:25):
Instead of sam Gian on at first with a single
or down at second with a double. There are two
out nobody on. Hendrix comes back and Hernandez comes up,
jacking nan gan three for four, but he is erased

(02:19:46):
on the perfect throw from Don Jaffery lot on the
top of the night. I'm already and throws the fastball
and mom does puts in Missus. Second. The bomber who

(02:20:10):
has been effected got the high fastball tween flac two
of the last nineteen men. Tom was giving up on
an mfield hit on a walk and then Sam gun
single and he's been raised and he's out in front
of Hernandez oh and two with a couple of high
fastball that Hernandez has gone after and Miss Jackie is

(02:20:34):
zero for three this afternoon. Came into the World Series
game hitting three sixty four in the series called on slack.
M Palmer recalled the fifth strike out Hernandez on prete
fitness to it twining track and then the finder hit
the outside corunner and they called slack three noun twenty
hit no iver come left. They go to the last

(02:20:55):
of the ninth of a two two ball game.

Speaker 5 (02:20:58):
Now listen, but listen quick, because it comes and goes
just like that, the Pennz Oil Chaparral, driven by national
champion Johnny Rutherford. Here it comes again, all bright and
brilliant in its traditional Penzoil yellow color.

Speaker 4 (02:21:15):
That's a forty thousand.

Speaker 5 (02:21:16):
Dollars engine that just roared by, turning out ninety five
hundred tortureous rpm. Does it mile after mile after hard, winning.

Speaker 4 (02:21:23):
Mile race after race after race. The Penz Oil Chaparral.
It has Pennzoil written on it and pens oil in it.

Speaker 5 (02:21:31):
Protection for a winner, penz oil, motor oil protection.

Speaker 4 (02:21:34):
For cars like the Chaparral and cars like yours. Pass for.

Speaker 6 (02:21:42):
A well with bob print right now in the Piate
dressing room.

Speaker 4 (02:21:58):
This is one of the voices of the Oriel O'Donnell, who,
along with Jim Simpson, was hosting you in Games three, four,
and five of the World Series in Pittsburgh. Now we've
got a two to two game six side going to
the bottom of the ninth inning. The Pirates have been
pitching Moose Johnson and Juste just Deson to the bottom
of the seventh inning when Baltimore tinted up. Now we
go to the Oriel Knights and to Jim Simpson. All right,

(02:22:20):
Bill Ellie Hendrick, Oh for free, but with that strong
home run car big that's Dannet better with a very
heavy bet facing Dave Justsey, owner of that fine palmball
for the breaking pitch outside ball one. The last x
rinning game in the World Series is back in nineteen
sixty nine when the Mets be the Euros and Tenantings

(02:22:41):
at New York in the fourth game. One ball pitch,
another breaking pitch and this is a strike. Rock river
against Hendrix pirates to Baltimore two. During the season. Out
of fourteen x rinting games, Baltimore won seven. During the season,
out of twelve extraating games, Birg won six. Just he

(02:23:01):
throws breaking pittsground ball which is foul at first base
club by Bob Robertson, back at the lawn and keeps
the ball in play. We're in the last of the night.
Pittsburgh had a two nothing lead. Oliver let off with
a double in the second, was single on by Bob Robertson.
Is a home run by Clementy in the third, and
then for Baltimore, they got one of their runs on

(02:23:23):
a Baufort home run in the sixth, and Johnson drove
in Bilanger, who had single and child in second in
the seventh. It's two to two, one ball, two strikes
to Hendricks way outside. It is two too. Dobson continues
to prow the right hander who started Wednesday Night's game
in Pittsburgh, the Baltimore bullpen. The team has ever lost

(02:23:46):
the first two and come back to sweep the next four.
And that's what the Pirates are trying to do this afternoon.
The oorl to have other ideas. Here two it under
the hands, he won around swinging, and Hendrix is very
despondent and upset it himself for striking out on a
vad pitch. Third strike out for Justi, and it is

(02:24:06):
the seventh in the ball game at the five pitching
staff and just has now struck out three in the
last four men that he's faced. Here is Mark Blander,
who singled the right a ground ball to the right
in the seventh inning after they could not move him along.
He stole second and later scored on Dave Johnson's game

(02:24:27):
time single. Takes the strike for the basketball on the
outside fund bombball down low, one ball, one strike on deck.
Is Jim Pummon Bomber, who threw those one hundred and

(02:24:48):
sixty eight pitches last Monday in danger unlets the Orioles
score here of going an ext running game to day
fouled off to the right. Bible enger Tim Palmer, trying
to give himself a twenty sixth birthday present. He was
twenty six yesterday. Matter of fact, the Pirates starter Bob

(02:25:13):
Moose was twenty four last Saturday. One ball, two strikes.
Here's the pitch sat at just missus and Ian crouches
there holding onto the ball. Is it the same, mister Kibler.
I think it's over. Both the Oils and the Pirates
have been questioning the cause of John Kibler. Two balls,
two strikes. Elstie working rapidly, Bolandra does not go around,

(02:25:38):
checks his swing on the pitch on the outside corner,
and it is three and two, and now just he
yells something in to John Giffwick. Danny Murtau is up.
Dan seldom get cut, but he is up, hands on
his hips, walking around in the ballpin or rather in
the dugout upset with a call three two popped up

(02:26:00):
out of play behind home play. You'll recall him the
top of this sinning and back in the eighth thorough
Weaver was up hat off in the dugout upset of
the calls to the umpire. One out of the ninth
of a TA game, sixth game of the World Series.

(02:26:20):
Just the right handed throws foul to the screen. That
Blander just did get a tip of that ball. Two runs,
eight hits, one hour for the Pirates. One hour was
not caught me two runs, six hits, no hours for Baltimore.
Each team has a home run Buford and Clementy three

(02:26:41):
two pitch in under the hands ball fours and GM
thought he had nothing. Nim Palmer is going back to
the dugout Palmer who has brought all those pitches I've
been calling to move the man across. Was successful with

(02:27:02):
a sacrifice bunk in the third, but was called out
looking at a strike in the seventh. Tom Chope all
for three in the series old Jella that does not
hit for twer It makes a lot of contact and
has a lot of speed, which would mean, of course,
with Blande's good speed and Showpey's excellent speed, that the
Oros have a chance to stay out of the double play.

(02:27:23):
Chope is up there to move the man along and
give Don Duport, who was homered and singled and walked
in this game of chance to drive in the winning run.
Bomber did all that he could, working nine innings, giving

(02:27:44):
up two earned runs, seven had struck out five and
walked only one in a superb performance by the Baltimore
right handers. Now it will be up to someone else,
undoubtedly Pat Dobson, who continues to war Eppner's in on
the grass at third. Bolander leads off at first, one out.
In the last of the ninth, Dusty throws. It's a
strike at the knees, one ball, one strike. Joe Pay

(02:28:08):
you sparically throughout the regular season two fifty seven average,
no home runs and five RBIs in dealer double played depth.
They play Jopay slightly to the opposite field, and al
John Kidler calls time. J pay steps back in Pittsburgh bullpen.

(02:28:28):
Not busy with mister Justky had worked Baltimore bullpen. He
is busy because if it goes to ex runings, we
will have relief or Jim Palmer. Dave McNally has gotten
up to start throwing with Dobson. Foul bunt at the
plate and Gain pounces on it, but it's in foul territory.

(02:28:49):
Actually hit the plate and bounced off to the left.
How about that for a bullpen twenty game winner at
Dobson twenty game winner Dave McNally, each of whom has
stuck a World Series game here in nineteen seventy one.

(02:29:12):
Just He looks throws outside. It is one ball, two
strikes to Chope Stargeland left his very shallow Oliver and
Senter Lametti overnright. Clemente has been playing a shallow right
field even against bigger hitters. Here one to the count

(02:29:32):
and it's low ball too. Hibbler put up both ends
in the safe side as the ball actually went off
the back of Chope. He did not swing and Sangian
did not hold on to him. Ball has popped up
maybe in play, may not send Gian comes back to

(02:29:53):
the screen, looks as it bounces about two feet onto
the screen and drops off. So one ball, two strikes
to Chope. We are in the last of the ninth.
It's all tied up at two apiece and the winning run.
Mark Bolanger stands down at first base with one out
in show tey with account of one ball, two strikes

(02:30:21):
just he ready to throw fastball. It is down low
and then is to to to Chote. Ball has hit
the center field. Oliver has to go back on it

(02:30:41):
as he was playing in shallow but it is back
in plenty of time as the ball was hit high.
And now they're two out as Billanger, he's down at
second base, comes back to first ballance up to Don Bruford.
Unless we go to extraddings. Buford single in the verse
was a race on the double play, struck out swinging
in a fastball in the third homeward off Bob Moose
in the sixth, and drew a walk off Boose that

(02:31:03):
the fourth fit actually ruined by Dusty. In the seventh,
Hey swing around to the right for this switch hitter.
He was shown a fine power in this series with
two home runs in this part into the right field seats,
Dusty keeping Balanger. Remember what happened back in the seventh inning.

(02:31:26):
Palmer tried to bunt Balanger over, was unsuccessful, and Mark
stole another check at first, and that set up the
Davy Johnson Bloke single to left field and drove him
in with the tying run. Dusty doesn't want that winning
run to go down the second base Balander takes the
lead off at first. Dusty throws it is low, gets

(02:31:47):
away from San Gheen, but he reaches back and snatches
the ball up quickly. One ball, no strikes to Buffer
Hernandez playing very nearly in back of second base. It's
the short stop playing Rufort way around to the right.
Oliver well Over in right center, breaking pitch strike. One ball,

(02:32:11):
one strike to Duport ninth inning, too out, Bland at first,
two runs on eight hits, one er for the Pirates
from Baltimore, threatening to win it. Two runs, six hits
and new errors. Dusty throws too low the balls one striker. Well,

(02:32:34):
there are eight thousand empty seats and the eight thousand
who decided not to come, probably missing one of the
best ball games of the seventy one series. They're all
tired and could go to extra innings. Two and one,
and there's a swinging strike two. Dusty took something off

(02:32:55):
that pitch and Rutford was way out in front of.

Speaker 9 (02:33:01):
You.

Speaker 4 (02:33:03):
Hebner at third base with Hernandez pullover towards second is
a good fifteen feet off the line at third. Back again,
drive down the line. It is a fair ball. Atlanta's
donat play round second. Conette, with a great arm, comes
up with a blanda stops at third. Bilford goes down
the second as the throw comes home on one hot,

(02:33:24):
a powerful crow from Aberto Conette. But now with David
Johnson's coming up, we have Filford down at second with
the third base hit of the day and the winning
run ninety feet away. Johnson today got it into a

(02:33:45):
level play back to the picture reached on a Hepner's
hair at third and single in the tie run, and
now the second baseman has a chance of a gover
reial hero my driving in the winning run on at second.
First base is open, but boom pal is the next
better two or out pirates to Baltimore two the Lands

(02:34:12):
who makes it home from third base. We go to
the seventh game of the World Series tomorrow afternoons two
o'clock Eastern time. It old got.

Speaker 14 (02:34:23):
Now.

Speaker 4 (02:34:24):
Justy signals to Sandi, and he'd like to talk things over.
Justy was the Land that gave up the base hit
the Johnson last time up on a T two pick,

(02:34:45):
ready to throw bastball. It's fouled back near us like
one to Johnson. Baltimore won the first two games in
this ball. Pittsburgh won the next three in there three
River Stadium. Baltimore's back home and would like to win
again today. Justy trow swinging amiss by Johnson. It's two strikes.

(02:35:09):
Dusty challenged him with a fastball in about the letters Lander, third,
bufort and second there two out in the last of
the night. Dusty trows ground ball called the shorts Bernandez
a go Golphins troller now forwards the first they're doing

(02:35:30):
the first and a bang nine play. That call ran
up Bernanda's de Childer as catch tid back of the
eighth inning. On the ground ball hit by Buck Robinson,
he satched it out of the air and threw on
to get Davy Johnson no run, one hit, no error,
and Blanterer had already crossed home plate at the end
of nine. Pittsburgh to Baltimore two for the first time

(02:35:54):
in this sixth game of the Royal series. Baltimore goes
to its bullten as we moved to the top of
the sam thinning and the fourth game. Oriol starter Pat
Dobson comes in then to replace right handed starter Jim Palmer.
Only once this year did Dobson appear in relief, and
that was his last appearance of the season, when he
threw two innings of relief in a final game victory

(02:36:16):
for Dave McNally over the Red Sox. Palmer, the starter,
is now no longer involved in the decision. He goes
the first nine innings, gives up two runs, eight hits,
strikes out five, and he walks one two runs eight
hits for the Pirates, two runs, seven hits for the Orioles.
Dave McNally continues to warm in the Baltimore bullpen. Here's
Jim Now on the top of the tenth Thanks Bill

(02:36:36):
Vic Davaloh well back for Justi. Davilyo has been up
twice in this series as a pincher to both times
and has one for two. Justy worked two and a
third innings, gave up two hits, struck out three, one walk.
Dobson's first pitch low and away to Davalio. Tim Palmer
did a superb job for the Oils, and of course

(02:36:57):
Justy did a great job to get out of that
ninth inning struggle. Here's the ball, one pitch line drive
right to Johnson the second base. Davy went down to
his d's to capture that line ride. And here is Cash,
Dave Cash, hard hitting, not long ball hitting second baseman

(02:37:18):
who today has popped up twice, grounded the short and
at a sharp line of the Blander took on one
haf and threw him out of the seventh two to
two of the score. We are in the tenthening of
the sixth World Series game, and trusted the pat Dobson
strike slider drawn by Dobson, and of course the Bucos
will have to come back with a pitcher. In the
last of the Tenthening, who replaced Dave Justin. Fastball fouled

(02:37:43):
off and goes into the Pirate dugout along the first
base line. Two strikes to catch rich Hebner left handed
swinger oh for three today plus or walk kneels on
day Bob Miller throwing in the bullpen. The buck goes
overhand fastball and it's foul of the play and gets

(02:38:04):
back to the screen. There's still two strikes to that value.
Or rather to Dave Cash Dobson ready to throw the
ball is lying on a base hit to right field.
Cast takes the wide turn, watches Frank Robinson throw into

(02:38:24):
the cutoff and Davy Johnson, and now the go ahead
run is on for the Pirates. This cast gets his
first hit today and here comes rich Hevener. Hapner applied
to center, pops out walk and round of the shot.
Hapner does have that power that produced for him seventeen

(02:38:46):
home runs during the regular season, a dramatic home run
and one of the championship playoff games, and a home
run here in the series. Strike at the knees breaking
fits Dobson when he started that game, win to not
up in Pittsburgh, the first night game of the World
Series history. Did have great stuff, but could not make
the good pitches, couldn't get him over. He had not

(02:39:11):
pitched in about three weeks. Strike one pitch throws him
a breaking pitch, foul at the play that rolls over
towards Clementa in the on deck circle. One out on
the tent. Cash at first, two to two to score
Tom or Rother. Dobson wants a new ball, and we'll

(02:39:33):
get it from John Kidler. Frake Robinson rather deep in
right field. They're pulling Hebner around to the right. He
is a pool hitter, youngster from Massachusetts, could have been
a great hockey player. Decided on baseball, Check over Cash
at first base. Dave Cash has fine speed, has not

(02:39:58):
stolen the base in this series. To strike the count,
Dobson ready throws an off speed pitch. It stays down low.
Cash to thirteen bases in eighteen attempts during the regular season.

(02:40:24):
Dobs in the right hander ready to throw. There goes
the runner swinging to miss. Hendrick throw down to second
base and in safely is Cash with the stolen base
as Hepner strikes out swinging to protect the runner was
obviously on the way to steal second base. And now
Cash is slow in getting up. Tony Barter on the

(02:40:53):
trainer runs out for the Pirates. Frank Osiak ran out
and they're talking to Cash. And while we are in
the tenth inning, Cash is down at second base, still
being ministered to. And the point is with two out,
here is Roberto Clemente came in hitting at four twenty
nine as hit a triple in a home run as
line the center and fly to left. That's the Pirates

(02:41:18):
fifth steal of the series. And they have done to
the Oils, but the Oils did to them when Bilanger
pulled off their first steal and scored the tie run
in this two two games. Well, here's Clemetty Moameny has
eleven base hits, has hit safely known thirteen World Series,

(02:41:40):
and they're going to take the bat right out of
his hands. They're going to walk in. McNally continues to
throw there is ball to to Clemtty, and you wonder
will McNally come in to pitch the Stargule, or where
they allow Dobson to stay in the pits to the
fella who led the major leagues in the home run
Ball three, now Roberto Clementi, there's ball four. We have

(02:42:07):
runners now at first and second, and here comes Earl Weaver,
and I think in a moment we'll say, here comes
Dave mcnowey Weaver drudging out to the mountains. Stargo on deck.
Willie today has struck out swinging twice, rounded out and
last time up lying the left field. We were talking

(02:42:28):
to Dobson, and Dobson is all proved. McNally will be
coming on. Stargell against McNally in the first game, struck
out of the basketball in the personning, walked, rounded out,
and struck out again in the eighties. So he was

(02:42:51):
zero for three and struck out two of those times.
McNally twenty paced Stargele. In the fifth game of the
World Series, Stargules grounded up and fled to left. So McNally,
who was coming in to pitch the Stargele has allowed
him a base on balls and that is all.

Speaker 9 (02:43:13):
That.

Speaker 4 (02:43:13):
Here's Bill, Jim. I've got to think that with all
the records they keep of the World series since it began.
We may well have a first year of this Afternoon
Baltimore which had four twenty game winners and the first
ball club to have it since the White Socks back
in the twenties. This Afternoon ball game. Now we've had
three twenty game winners appear. Jim Palmer, the starter who

(02:43:36):
won twenty, Pat Dobson, who all still won twenty in
his last start of nineteen seventy one, and Dave McNally
who won twenty one games during nineteen seventy one. They
have now all appeared in the sixth game of the
World Series.

Speaker 5 (02:43:49):
Now McNally pitched in Game five.

Speaker 6 (02:43:52):
He pitched only four innings.

Speaker 4 (02:43:54):
He gave up four runs to the Pirates, all four
of them along with seven Bays hits. He was roughed
up or seven of the nine Pirate base hits as
he and the Orioles were defeated by Nelson Briles to
the tune of four to nothing. So Dobson in the
sense that came in on the spot in a two
to two time. He got Davilio, the leadoff man as
the pinchoater for Jessee lining out. Then Cash delivered a

(02:44:17):
base hit and as Hepner fanned Cash Stole's second base,
and from the standpoint of doing the right thing, that's
exactly what Earl Weaver did with the tide breaking run
at second base, namely Dave Cash. He gave Clemty, who
had tripled in homerd in his ball game, he gave
Plemtty first base. Yank Dobson brings on twenty one game

(02:44:38):
winner McNally for his third pitching appearance in.

Speaker 6 (02:44:41):
This series, and naturally his first as a relief.

Speaker 4 (02:44:44):
So you've got the craft McNally against the power of
Stardule plus Jim Simpson. All Right, Bill Startan was all
for four today the major leagues and home runs up
there swinging that Batanarwich for the first McNally pitch, drows
way offside and away from Stargule, ball one down at
the second after a single in the stolen base, Dave
Cash on with the intention to walk as Viberto Clemetti.

(02:45:07):
Stargel did not hit in those Championship games against the Giants,
has not been a big hitter in the World Series.
If he is to be off the hook and to
do very well, there's a big swing in a miss.
This would be Willie's spots, but McDonald's simply blew that
fastball right by him. Rickard and Watt, who've been up

(02:45:29):
and throwing before, are up and throwing again in this series. McDow.
He's fit thirteen innings earn run average, a two point
eight on ball one strike the stargele low and away
again edricks down to his knees to dig it out,
two out, tenth inning, two to two to score. Fires

(02:45:52):
have a great shot here with a two ninety five
hitter during the regular season with those one hundred and
twenty five RBIs and forty eight home runs. But he's
facing a twenty game winner who is a left handed
pitching to the left handed Stargier. Now he ready it's
high with the fast ball, and there's three and one.
Now they must come in with a pitch, and waiting
on deck is another left handed hitter, Al Oliver, who

(02:46:15):
already has doubled and scored one of the two pied runs.
Clement a way off at first base. They're not holding
against him with the left hand of Starge up there.
Here's the three to one pitch way outside in low
ball four charge of walk. The bases are loaded with
two out of here comes down Olivier. That's the third

(02:46:38):
walk giving up by the Baltimore staff. Palmer did gave
up one in his nine innings. Dobson walked Flementy intentionally,
and al Stargo draws the water. Here's Al Oliver doubled
and scored in the second, grounded out and fled out.
Fights don Kiler out in front of the play. This
is Dave mcnowny's first relief appearance since July nineteenth of

(02:46:59):
nineteen sixty nine at Boston. Al Oliver, left hander, stands
well back of the play. McNally ready to throw outside
and little again all along, I don't have to tell
you our base on balls and the Pirates take the lead.

(02:47:24):
Now he ready, Oliver waits, it's strike if he's catching
the outside park cash is a third lament he of
second Stargul at first almost sounds like an all star
line up. Done it for the Mation League. One ball,
one strike. Oliver waits. Now he throws round ball and
it is fouled on the first base line. Oliver topped

(02:47:48):
that ball and it's one ball, two strips. McNally was
behind the Stargo three and one in walkedon. Now he
is the head of Oliver.

Speaker 1 (02:47:55):
One and two.

Speaker 4 (02:47:57):
Two runs nine hits one hour for the Pirates, runs
sevenis nor for the Oarls. On the top of the tenth,
Oliver waits ands nowly ready one two pitch, it's flown away,
two balls, two stripers like now he looks over at

(02:48:30):
third base. Ready, here's the two two pitch. The ball
has hit the center field back goes Retman. Jail back
there the morning, back backing on the ball and takes
it to the third out. No one's one hit, no aheers,
and the bases are left loaded. The Pirates of this
Jerson now left fifty nine men on base. We go
to the last of the tenths of a two two
ball game.

Speaker 1 (02:48:50):
Listens WG on radio Chicago.

Speaker 15 (02:48:56):
Imagine you're a child again, the fun you had, the
dreams you dreamed. Then imagine you're a child again and
you can't even walk. The Shriners imagined a hospital for
crippled children, where the care was free, where a child's
race and religion weren't important. Then they built these hospitals

(02:49:18):
all over America. If you know a crippled child who
needs big help, call the Shriners toll free eight hundred
two three five five O five five. Eight hundred two
three five five oh five five. You don't have to
be a shriner or be connected with a shrine in
any way. All you have to do is to call

(02:49:40):
toll free eight hundred two three five five O five five.
That's eight hundred two three five five O five.

Speaker 6 (02:49:50):
Five together with Bob Prince, then Jim Simpson.

Speaker 4 (02:49:55):
This is Bill O'Donnell. And before we go to the
bottom of a sentson and two changes now for Pittsburgh.
They're a new pitcher, right handed relief for Bob Miller,
follows Bob Mood, Bob Johnson, a Dusty and also a
new fetter fielder Dad o'lel Vick Davaliel, who batted in
the top of the ten innings. Davi o Leo remains
in the ball game. Davi Leo played setter for Oliver.

(02:50:17):
That means that the pitcher Miller will be batting in
Oliver's spot, fifth in the order. Miller's third appearance in
this World Series. He appeared in Games one and two.
Back to gym In the bottom of the ten Boog
Powell leads it off against Bob Miller and takes outside
ball one. Kul flied to Wright in the first, hop
to the second baseman in the four, single in the sixth,

(02:50:38):
and flied deep to left in the seventh. Miller has
been in two games before. His un run average of
the series two point twenty five. It's worked four in Engls.
This is his sixth series game. The ball one count
one big hop to Cash at second base against the
shifted indfield, and he throws on to Robertson and there's
one out on the Baltimore tenth. We have had one
bad hop Gover Blander shortstop, and we've had a ball

(02:51:00):
run up the arm of Cash and run up the
arm of Hernandez. Some hops coming off this Baltimore end.
Here here is Frank Robinson two two. Robinson has a
two home runs in the series. Today he is over
four and has struck out twice. Oriole's winning the back
for a seventh game tomorrow, Fires win it. It's all

(02:51:21):
over outside of the fastball. It's ball one to Frank Robinson.
Frank struck out of the second and the eighth, and
in between he lined the right and pop to the
short start down to the screen. Moose Johnson justin and
L Miller or Pittsburgh tomorrow, Mike Klaar and Steve Blasts

(02:51:45):
if there be tomorrow for the nineteen seventy one World Series,
Flank Robinson straight away and all those Dodgulars pulled a
little bit more to the left another's back, throws a
curve ball outside and low two balls one strike. Miller
during the regular season with the Pirates had an unrun
average of one point two nine his overall season eight

(02:52:09):
and five and one point six, four and whatever, two
and one. Fastball is up high, its free and one.
Bob has been around for a dozen years in the
major leagues, and say's the biggest thing he's got going
for now is experience. Right now he is down pree
and wan to Frank Robinson and Recland is on deck.

(02:52:31):
Miller ready to throw and throws just missing the outside
corner ball four, the winning run. Frank Robinson bucks down
the first phase, and here is merv retmand. Nobody throwing
out on the Bucco bullpen at this moment, nor is
there anyone throwing in the Oil bullpen due to tuba

(02:52:56):
score a last of the tenth. Wherever you're listing around
the world, or around the United States. We welcome you
to this sixth game of the World Series. And he's
got one, haven't you. The band Retman waits light hander,
bouncing ball up the middle, cast comes over, can't get by.
It goes on by and Robinson goes to third base.
Here's a tow to third base. He is state the

(02:53:17):
third runners at the conners. There's one out and Brooks
Robinson the most viable player a year ago, and the
World Series comes up one for four today. The best

(02:53:40):
foot hitter that the Oriels have the Pirate Scouting Report
Best Books at the top of the most feared hitters.
Brooks during the season hit two seventy two but twenty
home runs and ninety two RDRs. And book can send

(02:54:05):
the Oils and Pirates to the seventh game of the
World Series. The five ball can do it. Fove the
third base still has seeds. Millar throws foul back toward
the screen. Sike one. Hell. The Oreos had runners at
first and third with two out and the ninth inning

(02:54:26):
and couldn't get them home. Now they've got runners at
the corners with one out. Miller throws breaking pitch outside
one ball. One striper Baltimore fans almost to a person

(02:54:55):
on the edge of the seats. Fastball in on him
and swings and misses. One ball, two strides. Miller is
doing a lot of walking around on the mounds, staring out,
justing his cap, tugging at his thousands. Now steps off
one ball, two strikes as he's moved out ahead of
Books Robinson, Big Ellie Hendrick on deck high ball game

(02:55:22):
last at tenth. There goes a runner and Books fouls
to the way to the right. Reckman was on his
way to second. Bertz fouled the way, and the question
would have been would Sandon have throne the second or
would he have simply given Reckman second base because the
Oils only need a run and it's all over. One ball,

(02:55:48):
two strikes. Thatman not going ball has hit out the
center field. Tavially on shrout center field. Robinson tags, here
comes a drone. It is up the line. Ky we
all those coming days, Roux Robinson hit a line drive

(02:56:31):
the George center field. Davieo was playing in there because
the deeply would have scored him easily.

Speaker 1 (02:56:36):
