Speaker 1 (00:00):
The old baseball is the prime topic right now is
Jerry Waite has taking.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
The mound and he'll be going against Lou Brock, Teddy Sizemore,
and Reggie Smith here in the first inning. And the
big thing to beat Saint Louis. They said he is
to keep a guy named Lou Brock off the base
beas and try and keep a guy named Ted Simmons
in the ballplay. That can sometimes be a very difficult thing.
If he'll look at Brock's credentials one hundred and seven
stole invasions more than anybody in the history of baseball
(00:25):
in one season, dating.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
Ty Cobbs Mark and then Mario Willis. And he'll be
leading it off here and at the age thirty five
or thirty six. I'm not sure what his exact age is.
We'll check it in the book.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
But he seemingly like wine gets better with ag and
one of the key reasons to it, I think is
his philosophy.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
He said, you can't sip bucks thinking too much. You
got to learn to bend once in a while.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
And he said, I've been able to do that don't
let things bother me too much. He was born in
nineteen thirty nine, so I'll make him thirty five years
of age. He's still playing great baseball. He's sitting at
three to eleven, three home runs driven.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
In forty six.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
The Pirates a game and a half back, and they
had done well in wall Park recently and particularly against.
Speaker 1 (01:01):
Eastern Division Bar clubs. When the pitch is underway, it
open up the ball game, fastball.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
Inside ball, and Bucks are twenty two and fourteen against
the East at home and overall well under four five.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
Hundred with thirty three wins and forty one defeat. Here's
a pitch by Royce swinging a miss on a fastball
strike two strike, one, one ball.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
In one strike. Doug Harvey working behind the play, Jerry
David first track, Williams at second window stat Harry Wendell
stand at three foul back out of play.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
Royce again with a mustard up high.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
And the count of one and two. Both Bar clubs.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
Going with veteran lineups here tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
No rookies put into this thing, and it's down to
the wire and these is the lineups that they figure
are the best they've got going. Pirates have one seven
in a row at home. The Cardinals after losing two
in a row, that the Phillies to come back to
win five in a row while the Pirates are dropping
five in a row.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
Foul out a play.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
By Brock down the Leftia line and the count of
one and two. One of the great trades in cardinal history.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
Had to be picking this fella for a guy named
Ernie Brollio.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
Royce of the Long Parts has a sign. The one
two pitch inside almost got them two balls to strike
backed them off the boy there he's last outing a
very strong one against.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
The Philadelphia Phillies, leading four to nothing into.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
The eighth inning, and the bottom suddenly fell out. The
Bucks wound up losing it six to four, and that
game hurt, I guess as much as any we've had
so far this year. I just have nothing able to
get that momentum going since the day off yesterday, A
very welcome one. Maybe get their thoughts together a bit.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
But two two pitch right, there's black Tree.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
He caught him ucking.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Rock. Didn't agree with that fall by Doug Harvey. But
mister Harvey, a very vetterer an umpire, doesn't mess too
money and had a good way to start up keeping
brocout the big fats here in the opening.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
Inning, Ted Seizemore the second basement hitting at two fifteen
two home runs driven.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
In forty four, and he got special recognition when Brock
broke may Willis's mark the other night he brought him
out for red.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
A little bit of an encore.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
He figured he had as much.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
To do with it, patting right behind him. Nobody on base.
Sizemore takes a strike.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Cardinals have been a red hot ball club in September.
They have one to eleven and lost three. The on
one pitch curveball. Then's just on the corner taking straight two.
Race mixing up a good off speed curveball with that fastball,
and then he had.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
Just caught the outside corner.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
They slid that one over the outside part of the
plate on Sizemore. Pirate's playing him pretty much straight away.
Ziska appreciated a bit too right deal the l two
pitch high foul back out of way fastball he challenged
in the count of the one two. The one noticeable
thing about Race this year is that is strika total
is down considerably from what if Royd's last year. He
(04:02):
is not the strikeout pitcher, but He also has won
more ballgames this season than ever before, and probably pitched
his strong from season open to right now as he
has in previous season. He's only twenty five years of age.
He has already won sixty two ball games and lost
fifty seven. The O two pitch Wow back out of
(04:23):
play by Sizemore, very few pitchers in recent history at
age twenty five have captured sixty two wins.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
The big years for pitchers that are supposed to be.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
It's about twenty nine, thirty, thirty one, thirty two, and
you look at a guy named Gibson and Warren spaon
even greater years than that.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
Later on the O two pitch Swinging on miss.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Strack three fast baw by Royce, get size mare swing, Oh,
Jerry starkmof very quickly.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
He picks up two strikeouts, and I'll bring up Reggie Smith.
He switch hitter, batting right handed against Royce.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
He's betting.
Speaker 1 (04:59):
At three thirteen.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
He has twenty two home runs and driven in ninety three.
Smith thitting a two ninety four right handed three twenty
four left hand. It takes a pitch down well for
a ball. His power side is from the other side.
With sixteen home runs, but he's hit six from this side.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
The one o pitch and it's a curveball hanging high.
Two balls and those strikes.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
Ipfield pulled around the left field, I Smith, but pitch
by Royce swinging, I miss on a fastball strike one
lay Jerry just reaching back when he gets into treble.
It was something he didn't do in that Philadelphia phillyball game,
going with the off speed, breaking ball, but early here
going to heat. Fastball popped up off the first base side.
Kirk Patrick has the play near the railing on the
(05:51):
morning track.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
He's got.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
Her up a piece of crighton surface and almost took
a screw over there, but he's putting it back into shape.
Pridinals get out rder in the first inning and we'll
go to the bottom of the first.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
No store, Hu, this is your own superstar, eag and
I'd like you to give a listen to some news
from your Chrysis minister. Then in your pocket.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
Thank you, Mary Jane.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
You're right because money is what this message.
Speaker 2 (06:17):

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Picture as you were a pirate lan Christler Plymouth Theater.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
Now, a guy above, Prince will be along very shortly.
He had participated in the pregame ceremonies that we had
taped and played for you very briefly before the.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
Start of the ball game.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Rennie Sennettapner and Oliver will lead off against Bob Gibson
this year against the Fires. In two previous outings had
no decision the opening game of the season in Saint Louis,
Pirates wound up losing that one on the weird play.
You may remember, at least thought we had a chiple play.
The umpires weren't sure what.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
We had, but wound up giving us two.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
But we lost it.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
But he did pitch a very strong game against the.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
Pirates out in Saint Louis, shutting us out forward to
nothing on the twenty fourth of June.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
Lifetime record of twenty seven and fifteenth.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
Senatet hitting a two d NAH and has a seven
home runs June. In fifty four, the Bob Gibson fastball
hits file down the right deal line in drifting.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
I believe out of play. It is into the box seats.
Reggie Smith almost took a spill down there, as did
Kirkpatrick do d the first inning for us.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
This field just put into shape after the Steelers impressed.
It went over the Colts on Sunday, and some pieces
of the Tartan service laying loose there on the edge.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
Crowd come and arrive here.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
The old one pitched by Gibson high pop up in
the infield, drifting back as Tyson the short step just
behind second. He makes the play for the first A
had a belated happy fifty eighth wenting anniversary to two
Pirate fans, Mister and Missus Ralph Gucci of Whitehall.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
He's celebrated that on the fourteenth.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
Of September, I had a hap thirty six forty at
the wedding anniversary to Alan Mary Confort of Ardara, Pennsylvania.
Chie Hepner, hitting at three h two, takes the fastball
a pie from Gibson.
Speaker 1 (08:55):
Ball on. Heavener hit two home runs up Gibson.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
The opening game of the season in Saint Louis started
off with six c in a month of April. One
oh pitch line shot off the right siet end there,
Dry Sizemore picked up CROs We got him at first
they think Tory came off the bag in an argument
there between Jerry Dale and Josey for God as Tory
reached out to get the ball, a wickedly hit ball
(09:18):
by Hepner, but was knocked down by t Sizemore. He
was very deep but second base. He knocked the ball
down and it can just the bitch to his left
picked it up and threw on in time to get
hepner a two down and the Pirates first in ing no.
Speaker 1 (09:32):
Score and the batter. Oliver looks at a pitch down
low for a ball, gives in his usual.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
Style of working very rapidly back with another pitch in
the one ozero delivery high pop up off the third
base side reach getting chase. He may have a play
on it near the railing, and he can't make the play.
It's right in the crowd empire. Following the play all
the way Harry Wendel's stat that the fan did not
reach out. He stayed inside the railings there and caught
(09:58):
the foul ball out of one and one. Jim Palmer
goes against George Metics that game being played at Baltimore.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
The night or Rick, New York. That game at New
Yorker Ball that's at New York. They have a two
and a half game lead over the Oriels.
Speaker 2 (10:12):
He hasn't one one pitch to Oliver change up in
a fowl one ball and two strikes. Pirates were humble
the first five or six ball games by the Cardinals,
but have played much better since then. Was putting the
last two in this wall park breaking ball inside two
(10:32):
balls two strikes. Pirates lost the last time in here
was a twelve inning ball game. The two two pitch
back Gibson change up in.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
A high fly, he parte the open Kicky god he
Hey Farmer and Oliver.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
Well on a change up and gifts a doesn't throw
too many of those where he hasn't in previous years.
Speaker 1 (11:13):
It's going to Admar this year. In the hall, Hunt
gives a buck the one uping leaves Stardi looks at
the strike, the slider that gets moved down the outside
corunner that is number nine by offering his seventy third
RB eye and the bucks. You're out in front. They
shift against Lillie fastball up on will on account.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
Of one on one reaps at the normal short staff position.
Tighton a short staff about fifteen feet on the.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
First day side of second and size warns shallow right
the left, a line drive down to right, the arm
cut off by tire too holder for a long single,
and the Pirates aft.
Speaker 6 (11:44):
If you are out and nobody on a home run
on a line drive single, but chargually has.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
Something going against the veteran Bob Gibson. Pirates this year
have been a good two out lightning ball club man, it's.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
Showing up quickly here in this crowd, coming alive like
they did in at off your three series when the
Bucks got the Hyde.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
Really but the enthusiasm gets overwhelmed everybody that day, and
hopefully it's going on here in this very big series
against the Cartoons. Sith hitting at three and high team
takes the slider at the knees strack one.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
Gibson can probably pitch long away about as well as
anybody with a good slider when he is sharp.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
He had knee surgery last fall, came back late in
the season and pitched a couple of ball games, but
it's bothered him.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
He hangs us.
Speaker 2 (12:30):
Slider taken by this strike too. Has she been a
bit more hesitant swinging the bat in the last week
or so, But what a year he's had round ball,
wee creed a short step Tyson will take it unassisted.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
Unch started to let her retide the Pirates. The home
run by Oliver. He gives us our run on two.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
Hits, free areas and one left that will go into
the second inning and the Pirates lead one to nothing.
Speaker 7 (12:52):
Hello Mary, our superstar down the bower Plymouth.
Speaker 4 (13:02):
Sure will Phyllis. I'm gonna chowle that e't great small
car bis that even better buys at clean up side.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
Please love the more.
Speaker 4 (13:10):
Okay, your content with a Steeler has stuffed it and
vallius is stamps and they're all going at great clean
up prices.
Speaker 1 (13:17):
We'me on to hear it all.
Speaker 4 (13:19):
Listen, did you know that America's number one selling contact
kinds of Plymouth that's night seeing Valious camps are America stationment,
so you know they gotta be good. And when you
could get them at a clean up price, said sirs
it Hey, great, superstart, Brie know what I need?
Speaker 2 (13:36):
Thank you for That's why we are few. Con come
on in for a great deal in America's number one
selling small car at your mart Land Chrystler Lemum Teeler.
Well before the game, R. McKennon was honored and the
Mayor of the City of Pittsburgh, Peter Flaherty, was on hand.
(13:58):
And I know you get money duties did He called
on to perform. But I think you rather cherished the
award you give, right McKinnon.
Speaker 1 (14:04):
Yes, noie, this is one of the things.
Speaker 8 (14:05):
That he really liked to do because art's not only
been the voice of the Pirates, but he's done many
funny things here in the city of Pittsburgh, working with
the Oaksters over there.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
The impact on you on you because you, well, he's
just that kind of.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
A guy that you turn that for him.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
All right, the runner is here and we're ready for baseball,
and Robert, are you ready to go? The batter is
or Ted Simmons. He's betting at two sixty six and
have seventeen home runs driven in eighty five. I'm mayor
said he got us at warning Nelly, my gosh, we'll
hold him that and down they slot that over on
the outside. You take a look at that replay. I
(14:38):
was just coming up and newly that ball at Oliver.
It looked like it was about as good a nine
iron shot I've seen to the wicket. But here's the
two oh high. Where did it go with relations to
the right Tad went into the red seats, who was
rather deep right over the Philly signed, which may have
some importance.
Speaker 1 (14:54):
I don't know. He did think of Philly if you're.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
Leaving that town, I do too. Three in all has
one Simmons. That's the first time that Royce has put
a man aboard, don't bring up Joe Tory. Pirt's on
top one nothing, Nelly. As a former baseball player, if
you had to pick a game now, let's say we
got to win two out of three in the series,
would you attach more importance to this game tonight than
(15:17):
any of the other two than? I think?
Speaker 1 (15:19):
So? Yeah, I think because we've lost diving her own.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
We've lost some big ball games in Philadelphia, and I
think once you start losing big ball games, and this
is a big one, if you win one, you get
some continents back in.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
This ball club needs a little continents right now.
Speaker 2 (15:30):
It's swinging the mess. Strike one. Uncle Thomas P. Johnson
is here, he's got confidence. One ball and the ball's
in a strike. Here to Joe Tory batting a two
eighty two, they're going to be leading Simmons off. We're
holding with kirk Patrick. Royce backs him off to play
with the high inside fastball. One ball and one strike.
(15:52):
Parts are leading by the score or one nothing, by
virtue of a long home run hit by Al Oliver
his ninth of the year, with two down. He really
golfed the shot off Bobby Gibson. One ball, one strike,
pitch hop foul to the right and out of play.
Stam Mugel is here is the vice freend of the Cardinals.
Just dropped in and of course his hometown of Donora.
(16:14):
He says, without doubt, a very big ball game for
the Buckhos, as they all are. For both clubs that
are in contention. Perhaps I should say the three clubs,
because you cannot rule Philadelphia out of the pack. One ball,
two strike Simmons, the runners first, Pirates lead one nothing,
second inning. Now Jerry Roych checks over the first to Simmons,
comes to the plate, fouls it straight back Tory and
(16:36):
the cat now one and two. Tory batting at two
eighty two, playing at first base tonight for Saint Louis
tan Homer sixty three runs, bat it in. What a
beautiful tribute tonight the Pirates and the Steeters and the
Penguins and the fans paid to Art McKennon, the voice
of the Pirates for many many years. Here's the one
(16:58):
two delivery. Fouled back again. I don't like to see
a guy fouling them off too up. And once you
foul several back, you keep worrying about somebody getting a
hold of one. Simmons opened the inning with a walk.
Royce struck out the first two batters brocking size more popped.
The smith has walked Simmons on four pitches and has
fouled off. Now with Tory about five in a row,
one ball, two strike pitch and another foul over the
(17:21):
right side, kind of holding one him to They're going
to play, of course around at the left on Tory
with Bake McBride, our ball, tea strike. Roy's getting his
(17:44):
sign now from Sanguien. Simmons is sure lead at first.
The pitch bounced the third base Heavener. He's up for one.
The Senate on the first a double five. Oh, we
just threw the old house leader is signed up there
(18:05):
for the double play. And Bill Gilfoyle's got more dog
gun signs made up here as the butcher driving profie.
We got to try to get to our position where
we can go at him. All right, William, thank you.
That was ja Egger Hoover. On over to the dam
on the right side of the diamond and down they go,
and here's Bike McBride at three one six. He takes
(18:27):
a strike. Baker is the center fielder. Six homers fifty
three runs. Bat it in two down parts lead one nothing.
In the second inning, Royce to the wind up the
old one curveball hit weekly out in front of the plate.
Royce comes off the mound bare hand stars. It hits
(18:47):
McBride in the back. He's going to try to go
on into second base. Senate comes up, can't make the play.
McBride is in his second Let's see how they're going
to rule here. Boy, he got hit right in a
smaller the back. He really got drilled. I'll watch it
(19:08):
on the replay. The ball was weakly tapped out in
front of the mound, saying Gean went to get to it.
Royce comes up, he throws, He hits to the inside.
He throws out the left shoulder of McBride. I think
it was a base hit myself from what I saw
on TV. Then on the throw to get him in
the second, to get him right in the back. But
they've ruled an air all the way, so if he's
(19:29):
on on an air, you got to remember something. This
guy can fly now. Ken reads a batting at the
third basement of two seventy nine, swinging the miss straight long.
McBride is still rubbing the small of his back. He
got popped and popped good on that very strong throw
(19:49):
that cut him. And I think that they're going to
change it. I thought they might. They're going to call
it a base hips in the air. There's a long
flight of left. It's hooking foul, out of play, and
we'll pop for station and identifocation on the Pirate Baseball Network.
The bake McBride is still rubbing the small of his back,
(20:20):
right up between the shoulder blades. Not even one account
fly ball left center. It's playable. Oliver running over to
his right, getting under and that'll retire the side. Shorty
(20:43):
inning show, no runs, one hit, one air, one left.
We go to the bottom of the second leading by
the score of one to nothing.
Speaker 7 (20:51):
Oh may our superstar tell him about our night car.
Speaker 4 (21:01):
Okay, me and my friends here are gonna tell us
how they've been waiting to buy a full size car.
They're really smart.
Speaker 2 (21:07):
Rice tell them, Mary Jane, I need a.
Speaker 4 (21:09):
Cleanup time at your Chrysler Plymouth stealers.
Speaker 2 (21:12):
That's right, Mary Jean. Your Chrysler Plymouth dealer is getting
ready for his new seventy five, so he's putting a
year in price on his full size seventy four Furies
and Chrysler.
Speaker 1 (21:21):
He's a terrific You know, for some people a full
sized car.
Speaker 2 (21:24):
Isn't a luxury.
Speaker 1 (21:25):
Into the secondy and a clean up time, it makes.
Speaker 2 (21:28):
A great buy Fury and Chrysler.
Speaker 4 (21:30):
Yeah, somets it's smart to wait.
Speaker 2 (21:33):
You know what I need, sure do. Thank you Dean
Mark for coming to That's why come on in for
a great clean up deal on a Fury or Chrysler
at your Pirate Land Kryshler, Plymouth Taylor. You can now
get an official Pirate team picture at your Pirate Land
Chrysler Plymouth Dealers. The sixth position and captain number.
Speaker 3 (22:02):
Thirty five man he sent you.
Speaker 2 (22:18):
Here's the one that'll pitch the sand game. He hit
the fly ball out in the shallow center field and
Brad comes on. He's got him one out. Eddie Kirkpatrick
at two sixty four six homers, thirty four runs, batter in,
one down, then on and uh one to nothing. Pittsburgh
(22:44):
Kirkpatrick at two sixty four six homers, thirty four runs
battered in Gibson delivers. Kirki hit the ball out in
the right field for a base left third hit off.
Gibson got a hanging curveball that'll bring Frank of Ars
batting at two forty seven and Franks saying his time
(23:07):
coming up here right, it's our leading want and nothing here.
Tom Johnson, one of the prince of owners of our
ball club. Tom, I'm sure it's a disappointment to you
that we're not growing better than we are.
Speaker 6 (23:20):
Well, Robert, do you know we like to win and
the fans can have a factor about this fallcod You've
tried to build it up over the years about the
Green Weenie and things that they say about you that
you've been a great Pittsburgh fan all your years, and
it's a shame to see a crowd like this when
(23:43):
this looking at such a crucial game.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
Well, we'll get our shots, of course. I have to
say this. I think perhaps has been an economy factor,
and we did not play well early part of the season,
but I got to think in this crucial series we
got some problem. Ground ball is short upcome size Morse
White bottle landas to Tyson to size more, I should say,
and on the first for the double play, we'll be
back with the on the reference for Lumas. Tom Johnson,
the moment at the end of two we lead one nothing.
(24:09):

failure dog's feeding Bold with a high protein science tythically
bounce dry dog food and watch him jump for Joy.
Oh yes, Joy will not cost you an arm or
a leg. You'll find Joy dog food at your garden,
fresh little giant and whiches markets. Now your host is
Joynture's high protein food for dogs. Hiring protein still costs
(25:17):
less than most other brands. You know, time, We've just
come off a road trip and we've seen some fantastic
attendance figures with ball clubs that aren't in it. And
I'm sure this, as an owner, disappoints you that we're
not drawing better here in Pittsburgh.
Speaker 6 (25:29):
Well, if Kurt on the field we have.
Speaker 2 (25:35):
On the road, we have not done a good team, Robert.
Speaker 6 (25:39):
But here at home with a beautiful baseball as you now,
and to see the stands sell free of fans tonight really.
Speaker 1 (25:50):
Makes me as sorry.
Speaker 6 (25:52):
And I'm sure it has to have some effects on
the players.
Speaker 2 (25:58):
Well, it probably does, no question about that. As Tyson
leads off with the base hit to right, that's the
second hit of the ball game, tom To concluded. Actually,
I know the Pittsburgh and trashed area fans are ready
behind our buckos, and let's hope that we can win
this game and the next one and deservedly get into
a playoff spot, which will mean an awful lot to
all of us.
Speaker 6 (26:18):
Thank you, Rovert.
Speaker 2 (26:20):
Well, we'll get there. Here's Gibson in there batting it
two one nine, no homers and two runs at it
and we lead one to nothing. My goodness, I looked
up there for a moment. I thought it looked like
the Cardinals had scored eight runs and the first inning
in the coreboard. But I see there's a little hyphen
in the first zero. That's that's just a mistake. One ball,
the Strake delivery and the high ball to Tyson batting
(26:41):
at two one eight. Where we've got to stop the Cardinals,
to stop the Scraabini hitters. And when those two hundred
hitters get base hits against you, then you get in
some trouble. And we got to get them out because
they normally get themselves out. Two balls and no strikes.
Here to Bb Gibson, who's no easy touch it to play.
He cuts at this one and looked like he pulled
his arm a little bit at ball too, and strike one.
(27:01):
DoD Harvey behind the plate made a fine presentation. RT. McKennon,
and night ball too and strike one on behalf of
the major leagum fires. Look over the first to REGI
to Tyson hits and bunted through and fouled. Two balls,
two strikes stand usual in town tonight. Goods old buddy
(27:30):
Frank Physica sent our best wishes along to the Sam Stevens,
ninety years young. His biggest brag is he never missed
one of our broadcasts. Well, that's delightful. And the Earl
Wood was eighty eight years young. From the messing ball
to and strike two, Tyson the rennerd first Basehart's lead
one nothing, we're in third, step over throw the first
(27:51):
and he's back. Ball to and strike two, swing and
a miss and Gipson goes down third, strike out. We
(28:12):
had the pleasure of talking the other day to mister
Nolty down in Wheeling, West Virginia, the occasion of his
ninetieth birthday, and what a Pittsburgh Pirate fan he's been.
All Right, here's Lou Brock, a strikeout victim in the
(28:34):
first in all right's lead one nothing, Mike Tyson off
first to throw over there, he's back. This is the
second birthday of the Allegheny County Foster Grandparent program, and
congratulations of them actually will be on the twenty to September.
What a job they do. Pitch curve inside ball one
(28:58):
one hundred and ten poster parents in Alleghany County. They
range in ages from sixty to eighty four, all celebrating
their second birthday more than three, and the children in
several locations have enjoyed the special love and companionship of
their part time grandmas and grandfathers. Ball one and those
strikes one out and one on the batter Brock Tyson
(29:21):
the runner. At first, he basic to lead, dealing on
brockets a one hipper back to Royce. They throw in
time for one on the first. They won't get Brock.
Now we're going to get a chance of the stolen base.
I wish the Dickens wou'd have thrown the first and
got him out and let Tyson stay up there that second.
But you're going to see it. You're going to get
(29:42):
there anyhow. If he's going to be successful, he'll get there.
So really you've got to do exactly what Royce did.
They went one to six on Tyson and Bronck beats
out the force play and brings up size more. Struck
out back in the first. Now let's watch Brock has
one hundred the seven stolen bases. Kirk Patrick holding there,
(30:06):
Royce goes over. Brock is back pirates are on top
one nothing, home run out Oliver again. He goes over
(30:33):
size more, should get nothing but fast balls to hit
with Brock on Brock dancing around out there. Royce steps
off the mound. Hold the ball on, Jerry, old buddy,
make him get tired. Just hold up the set. Now
the look and he goes over to first. He's driving
Jerry a little bit of a wall. Now it throws
(30:55):
right back again, hoping to catch Brock in the act
of a walking lead. Uh and dumb about Jerry Royce either.
There's quite a battle going on right here. My arts
leading one nothing, We're in the third. Brock edges our first.
Royce is yet to pitch the Sizemore does and throws
it in there for a strike and Sismore can believe it.
Fastball that backs up on the inside corner. Latona Nights,
(31:22):
Little League Holding and say Thanny were baseball bank with
Saturday September the twenty fifth, at six thirty at the
New Kenjaman hunt of the Inn, and they abed him.
Bruce Keys and Johnny Moreland had cream full of the
Mets and Red mehadache. One of the best basketball football pitchers.
I think I've ever known. That's a big one. Nothing
in one account. Look the first now they've played Rocks
(31:47):
going to throw by Sam, Yeah they got him. Oh
that's again. I loaded one and Brock was at the
(32:09):
verbial mile. It was a throw down a ready stenate
who is in his fifty first game or fifty second
ball game without an error, and we go to the
bottom of the third leading one.
Speaker 1 (32:19):
Nothing.
Speaker 2 (32:21):
Want a great new experience in shopping this week planning
your food shopping in one of the modern superdollar markets.
There's always a great plus for super dollar customers that's
sometimes hard to find and most other large food markets.
It's that wonderful, friendly feeding of welcome that puts you
the ease the moment you walk through the door. Super
Dollar folks are people who like people, and you can
take it from the old gunner, they'll do everything they
(32:41):
can to help you make that hard earned dollar go
a little further. Superdollar markets are the friendly food markets
which you're making an effort to hold the line against
the onslaught of rising prices. Fighting inflation is not easy,
but at super dollars you'll find tom grade meat and produce,
as well as many of the well known national and
local brands and prices that makes your dollar have more sense.
So if you're looking for a friendly market making served
(33:03):
you better and save you more, hit super dollar markets,
the inflation fighters, where your dollar has more sense, and
who serve you better and save you more. Stocks your
food shopping at super dollar markets this week and feel
the difference. Gerry roych it's a high fly left field,
(33:25):
and I guess we're gonna have to get fast commercial
cues and Billy Richards and you pop them down there, pop,
because with Gibson coming up, he doesn't always take his
aid warm ups. We lead one nothing on a homer
by all. Oliver will get a golf shot on nine
iron right up into the red seats and then to
described here're standing now popped the short back in the
first inning, fires leading one nothing. Here in the bottom
(33:48):
of the third, Gibson works and it takes it over
the plate for a drag. I feel playing ready to
slice the ball in the right field not full hits
(34:10):
a ball high and the right smith's dropping back two downs.
I'll bring up Richie Hebner with a four to three
outs back in the first inning. He likes to hit
normally against Gibsmith, Piot's one and the Cardinals nothing. Let's know,
they got to win at least two out of the three.
And the most important part is take the first one.
(34:35):
Here's the pitch. Now, Heavener delivers outside. That is, Gibson
turned that one over and swipped it away from Heavenor
ball one. AT's one run on three hits, the Cardinals
none on two, but it's been cut down trying to
steal get some back with a fast ball, swinging miss
by heaven here one and one. This game has brought
the writers in from all over the country. They'd said
(34:55):
it's down to two teams, Pittsburgh and the Cardinals. So
the Philadelphia Riders, Kiga writers, they're all here. Pitch him there,
one and two. Nick Dozer, Bruce Codden, Bill Conway. I
mean they're from everywhere. They're right down to this one
A ball and two strikes to Heavener. He hits a
(35:15):
ball out of the shadow center. McBride can't get it.
It's a base Hi Hevenor hit a roofer up the
end of the back in the shallow center field, and
the two out single brings up at Oliver, who hit
his ninth home of the ear a GoF shout up
into the upper deck in right field back in the
first name nine good umpires Harvey Dale, Williams and Wendell
(35:39):
Stack all right, Williams checking now with size more enticive
as if he's all right. And the pitch to Oliver
hind away ballwark. They're playing al straight away right fielders.
Reggie Smith is deep, Oliver crowded on the next pitch
with a fastball from Gibbie inside to know two balls,
(36:08):
no strikes. Gibson ready turns this one over outside high
ball three waiting on deck. Willie Stargel pirates leading one
and nothing two down heaven her base sets. The pitch
is in there for a strike to Oliver and the
count of scree and one. You don't dare put your
head down with Gibson pitch and he's ready to go
(36:29):
back again. Oliver Fowls and the count of skull free
and two ball free strike two. Boy, you can't look
if you're in the fielder now. The other pitch is
a bat handle pop off the right side, picked up
by a second basement size more for the out, A
fine throwing play. That ball looked like it was going
to get through it. For the base set, he slammed
(36:49):
it off the right side and size more and went
over the back hand the ball and throw out out Oliver.
So the ending is over. No runs are hit, no errors,
and one the left and the three Pirates won the
Cardinals nothing. Hey, here's a cool refreshing idea for the
hot summer months. You can quench that sizzling summer thirst
with Dailey's high.
Speaker 1 (37:05):
Quality, good tasting fruit flavored drinks for the family, far
better than pop, it costs less and no sugar is needed.
The regular sized bottle makes twenty six glasses for about
three cents of glass.
Speaker 2 (37:15):
It's like getting a twenty six pack or daily is
concentrated in the gallon size makes a hundred.
Speaker 1 (37:20):
And four glasses full, like getting a big one hundred
and four pack.
Speaker 2 (37:24):
The gallon size counts in seven popular flavor orange, lemon, cherry, orange, grape, lemon,
fruit punch, and lemon lime. It's fifty years, delicious and
convenient Dailey's concentrate.
Speaker 1 (37:35):
It goes a long way and quenches thirst better than
anything you can buy.
Speaker 2 (37:39):
It's great in cooking and baking or as topping four
ice cream, and it makes delicious popsicles for the youngster.
No sugar needed.
Speaker 1 (37:46):
You just add water, get the regular twenty six ounce
bottle or the thrifty heavier gallon size Thirsty well quenched
with Daily Fresh Fruit Concentrate.
Speaker 2 (38:06):
Your host was Daily's Jewish Natural Jewish Products, natural food
drink concentrated in Daily's Cocktail Time Cocktail mixes. Ted Sizemore
opened up the fourth inning against Jerry Rice, the Pirates
out in front one and nothing on the home run
by Hal Oliver. With two outs and nobody on on
the first inning. Bob Gibson number nine Vice scoops Size
Moore struck out in the first inning as Royce opened
(38:26):
up with strikeouts on Brock and Size Moore.
Speaker 1 (38:30):
Ted batting at.
Speaker 2 (38:31):
Two forty nine are right handed batter fouls back out
of play. He was at beat when, as Bob described,
Rock was out by a sizeable margin at second base
on a very strong throw right on the money by
many sang Gian stented making the tag, but the big
thing Royce kept them honest over there. The light up
(38:52):
in el one pitch by Jerry foul right at the
feet of sang Geans strike two firets have been a
ball club that have come from nine and a half
games back at one time and fourteen games under five hundred.
They're only a game and a half hof right now
after losing five in a row on a tough road trip.
It's been their problem this year on the road in
the Eastern Division ballpark.
Speaker 1 (39:12):
But in this park they've played well and they've done.
Speaker 2 (39:14):
Well ever since they moved in here in nineteen seventy.
The O two pitch curve ball hi pop up in
the shallow center feel. A lot of are calling for us,
He'll make the grab one down The tart and surface
has been a very welcome thing for Pirate ball clubs
in nineteen seventy, nineteen seventy one, seventy two, three divisional titles,
(39:34):
last year just missing it on the last day of
the season, and this year back in the thick of
things too. It's been a contending bark club. You can't
ask for much more than that. It's a very competitive business.
Reggie Smith's filed out his first time up and check swings.
Speaker 1 (39:50):
Fouls behind home plate, strike one, Ted Simmons waiting on Dick.
Speaker 2 (39:58):
This was a big trade the Cardinals made me offseason,
and it certainly panned out for them that in the
acquisition of Lynn McLaughlin, I completely.
Speaker 1 (40:06):
Revamped the pitching set. Change up way outside one ball
and one strike, Cardinals in.
Speaker 2 (40:11):
A Red Sox, doing a lot of trading both bar
clubs in the thick of things, Boston three and a
half out a Redbird's a game a half in front
the one one pitch foul.
Speaker 1 (40:22):
Off the third base side and a count of one
and two. Tough thing about the Pirates last Red trip
was the loss of rubber of Doc Ellis and also
the inability of Dave Justin to docing pitching. And had
those things that occuraged.
Speaker 2 (40:38):
No doubt the Pirates would have won four and lost
three and maybe done even better than that.
Speaker 1 (40:42):
But it's stuff going about your big horses. A one
two pitch inside a fastball, back smith off the flight,
two balls, two strikes. You take Lynn McLaughlin and Alan
Roboski off this ball club and you find out how
many extraining ball games.
Speaker 2 (40:59):
Are going to win.
Speaker 1 (41:00):
Are closely the two two pitch pow back out of play.
The Met's proved it last year with Tub McGraw making
such a great comeback in the last five weeks of
the season.
Speaker 2 (41:11):
And completely turn.
Speaker 1 (41:13):
Things around and did Really, pitching can do that for you,
and Usty has done that for the Bucks a game
this year, the tattoo pitch down low in the counties
full three and two races issued one lock that was
Teddy Simmons.
Speaker 2 (41:30):
In the second thing.
Speaker 1 (41:30):
The Pirates turned over a double play to get out
of that one, and it turned out to be a
very big one too. We had an air by a race,
moved a runner into second day poule back out of play,
and the full count of three and two, so it
will hold. Pirates have sixteen games left. The Cardinals have fifteen,
(41:52):
six with the Pirates and six with the Cubs. Three
up in Montreal. Here's the wind up in the three.
Speaker 2 (42:00):
Pitched to Reggie Smith swinging on this strike three, blew
a fastball right by him right.
Speaker 1 (42:05):
Is laying on some heat here this evening. This is
as good a fastball as he has thrown early in
a ball game in quite some time.
Speaker 2 (42:12):
Four strikeats and he is not going to any off
speed pitching here tonight.
Speaker 1 (42:18):
Simmons.
Speaker 2 (42:19):
The batter.
Speaker 1 (42:21):
He walked in the second inning, He's on a six
game hitting streak, was in a bit of a slump.
Speaker 2 (42:26):
But he's got not adding it to two sixty six
files back out of play as Royce came up.
Speaker 1 (42:31):
And in with a fastball.
Speaker 2 (42:35):
Cardinal's long suit this year has been the speed of
Rock and McBride.
Speaker 1 (42:38):
Their home run potential has picked.
Speaker 2 (42:40):
Up a bit from last year.
Speaker 1 (42:41):
They have hit seventy five with the addition of Reggie Smith.
Speaker 2 (42:44):
Big part of that curveball right there, Strike two, good shot,
breaking ball by Royce, just grabbed the outside corner.
Speaker 1 (42:52):
No balls and two strikes. Pirates lead.
Speaker 2 (42:55):
Won nothing in the Cardinal fourth inning, two down, nobody
on Jerry taking a lot of time here. Now between
the two count they have the next pitch coming up.
He's ready, the O two pitch up Ye at the
build a cap, one.
Speaker 1 (43:13):
Ball, two straights.
Speaker 2 (43:18):
This is it the start of three here and then
three next week in Saint Louis between the Pirates and
the Cardinals. Some pretty good scheduling and one.
Speaker 1 (43:28):
Of the charms of divisional play, the one two pitch underway.
Speaker 6 (43:31):
Swinging on miss strike three, a fastball threw it right
by him. That is five for roy He's buzzing the
ball tonight. The Cardinals in the fourth g down an
letter and we go to the bottom.
Speaker 2 (43:42):
Of the fourth the pirates lead one to half.
Speaker 1 (43:44):
Figure how many of you pirates as can remember seeing
the great Honus wagons. But if you're in your forties
or fifties, your only memory of him is probably as
a batting coach, white haired, bow leggings. We didn't have
a fun go back beside the cave and forubes field,
And if you're in your sixties or seven, you may
have a cherished memory of actually seeing the Dutchman of
the player looping a single left center and flying down
(44:06):
the first, turning the corner at full speed and settling
headlong the second for a double. Hannas Wagner is remembered
for his competitive, no nonsense attitude about baseball. And if
the Union National Bank, they pride themselves on their competitive,
no nonsense attitude about banking. They're not interested in frills
or gimmicks. And yet if you come to see Union
National you'll find a full range of banking services. You'll
(44:28):
find courteous and professional people, and most of all, you'll
find that after one hundred and seventeen years, Union National
is still a bank member FBIC.
Speaker 2 (44:48):
They have a postponeman at Arlington, Texas California and Texas
postponed because of rain.
Speaker 1 (44:53):
Rangers still have their nose in the picture in that
Weston Divisional.
Speaker 2 (44:57):
Only five games bank and one of the surprise clubs,
that team seventy.
Speaker 6 (45:00):
Four Stargell's Fisk and Saggi in four or five.
Speaker 2 (45:03):
And six batters to go against. Gibson pitches down the
wall all one Willie's single down the right deal line
and they overshift and ready set not much for than
thirty to forty feet off the line and right field.
Speaker 1 (45:16):
He was a pitch by Gibson to change up in
the dirt, gets away from the catcher Teddy Simmons, and
account of two and zero.
Speaker 2 (45:23):
They're having a booth.
Speaker 1 (45:24):
Landing for Terry. He does to Charleston Charlie's ball games
on radio beair season over.
Speaker 2 (45:29):
The two Z pitch inside on will and the count goes.
Speaker 1 (45:32):
To three balls and those strikes.
Speaker 2 (45:37):
Sizemore playing Stargum about as deep as any second base,
and we've seen he's got to be a good thirty
feet in.
Speaker 1 (45:42):
The right field, hard shot right side.
Speaker 2 (45:44):
He may have the gap well picked up by Sizemore.
Throw it at first and they got willing. Gibson covering
at first base as Tory.
Speaker 1 (45:51):
Diving for the ball couldn't get it. But the ability
of Sizemore on this carpet to play so deep took
a base hit away from Stargels. That's one of the
things about synthetic fields. A lot of people fail to
take into a camp.
Speaker 2 (46:02):
When they first came in, they thought that everybody would
wind up getting nothing but round ball. They say that
you find everybody now playing much deeper and.
Speaker 1 (46:09):
Strong arms, particularly a short step for a very big
requisite for a.
Speaker 2 (46:13):
Major league short step.
Speaker 1 (46:14):
Four to one on the outsist is the batter he
takes a strike. Richie forced to star deal in the
person to end it. This's batting at three eighteen. The
pitch by Gibson check swinging a fowl first base side
to counted on two. The wind up in the other two.
Speaker 2 (46:41):
Pitch by Gibson up and in backs them off the plate.
One ball and two strikes. Gibson will work for some
pitching room. He's been known to loosen some guys up.
Speaker 1 (46:52):
Curve ball, hangs eye on the count of two and two.
Speaker 2 (46:55):
Most noticeable league knee surgery on Gibson. He just doesn't
follow two like he used to so extreme, falling over
on the first day side, sometimes going on his glove
hand like Jim Bunning did.
Speaker 1 (47:07):
He pitches more.
Speaker 2 (47:08):
Straight up the two two pitch, swinging a fowl right
at the feet of the catchery Simmons the sinking fastball
that time they counted two and two. But when you
talk about intestinal fortitude there, what he's got inside did
is partically Very few pitchers have had the recognition that
Gibson has their head category. Pitch missed inside full count
(47:29):
of three and two, and the payoff pitched is this.
He missed inside, handing the pitch a little bit, it
got away from him. Wall four, that's the first walk
allowed by Gibson.
Speaker 1 (47:43):
Had a look at his log compared to what he's
done in previous years.
Speaker 2 (47:46):
That's the ninety fourth walk he's given up and just
two hundred and ten ins of pitching.
Speaker 1 (47:50):
And that is not the type of pitching Bob Gibson
can do when he's helping. Most walks he ever issued
in his major.
Speaker 2 (47:58):
League career one hundred.
Speaker 1 (47:59):
And three, and that was in three hundred innings in
nineteen sixty five. Sank g applied to center field this
first time up takes a slider on the corner, strike
one disc at first being held by Joe Tory. The
Pirates lead one and nothing in a home run by
Oliver in the first inning. It's the bottom of the fourth.
He shot first base.
Speaker 6 (48:17):
I threw the bottle Tory down the right feel line,
just come the third Tankian holds at first base.
Speaker 3 (48:23):
That's the basic just through the glove of Joe Tory.
Speaker 1 (48:28):
Well, that's one time the.
Speaker 2 (48:29):
Synthetic circles helped us here because the wall got there
so quickly as sang ging.
Speaker 1 (48:33):
Swing light on the fastball, hit it on one half
right to Tory, but it got.
Speaker 2 (48:37):
Between his leg, just trickled off his gloves down the
right feel line, allowing exist to get into third.
Speaker 1 (48:42):
And we've got a threat riding with runners at first.
Speaker 2 (48:44):
And third, only one out in Kirkpatrick's the batter each
singler in the second inning into this back to two.
The Cardinals have turned over one double play that came
in the second Inny to Paris bouncing into it, getting
Kirkpatrick thanky foul back out of play a fastball away
from him.
Speaker 1 (49:02):
Strike one. Tomorrow evening a good.
Speaker 2 (49:09):
Battle of the west hander Jim Hucker against Lynn McLaughlin,
who was a pitcher in the All Star Game.
Speaker 1 (49:15):
Here the runners leave first and third fastball and on
kirk Patrick.
Speaker 2 (49:24):
One ball and on one straight you can see good pictures.
Turn it up about a notch or two and they
get into trouble. And Gibson on the last two pitches
it really had more on him to Kirkpatrick than he
did previously. One nothing leaves, but runners at first and
thirty swing in a.
Speaker 1 (49:38):
Mess and he blue half one right by him. Strike two.
Gibson is reaching back. Kirkpatrick a tough guy.
Speaker 2 (49:47):
To strike out, as tough as anybody on our ball club,
and Gibson tried to reach back and pick it up.
Speaker 1 (49:52):
Here, just get thirty back, Gennifers.
Speaker 2 (49:59):
Here's the drowned foul at first thaty and account holes
at a ball in two strikes.
Speaker 1 (50:06):
Attendance tonight, so I would get somewhere around twenty thousand,
A lot of seats available for this series.
Speaker 2 (50:12):
Tomorrow and the next night should be some very big
ball games.
Speaker 1 (50:16):
Here the one two pitch swing in a mess, strike three.
Speaker 2 (50:22):
Big shot, breaking ball in Kirkpatrick or one of the
few times this year has not put the ball and
play in a situation with runners at first and third,
and Gibson picks up a very big striker.
Speaker 1 (50:32):
It's his first one of the ball games.
Speaker 2 (50:35):
Now the runners at first and third, and it's up
to Tavaris. Now are right hated better rank hitting at
two forty seven, no home runs, he's driven in twenty five.
The pitch right there taking strike once the on one
(50:57):
pitch bought in.
Speaker 1 (50:58):
The foul gives some slow getting off the mound their
time in the good tribe by Tavaris. I just doesn't
move like he used to, and you.
Speaker 2 (51:06):
Might as well take advantage of that.
Speaker 1 (51:07):
And Tavaris, at great speed, has that ability. The count
of one two. The Cubs lead the Philadelphia Phillies one,
and I think in the bottom of the third. I mean,
Philly's got hot for two games against the Pirates, but
have hit the skid since.
Speaker 2 (51:22):
And they're still four and a half like they were
when they left here following that Labor Day theory, the
O two pitch foul by Tavaris, just staying alive right
at the feet of Teddy Simmons. Count of one two.
Kind of polish temperatures here tonight, but it's a very
pleasant day and not too cool of an evening. Here's
(51:46):
the O two pitch in the dirt and a good
saved by ted Simmons.
Speaker 1 (51:50):
That was almost a wild pitch. Teddy Simmons smothered that
very well. This fellow and Manny saint un probably as
durable as catcher that you will find in the league.
They used occasionally Simmons to first or third base, not
quite as much as.
Speaker 2 (52:07):
They do bench the one two pitch, he is blown
away ball to two balls too straight. Tavaris hanging teff here,
it's extending. Gibson of it fIF get third, sang in
at first, and the Pirates lead one nothing in the
fourth inning with two downs. The sitch looper in the
shadow right feel back.
Speaker 6 (52:24):
Of Sizemore are still going, still going. He's got it
a great running drab by Teddy Sizemore.
Speaker 1 (52:30):
Almost fell in, but not quite enough. Tis Moore showing
a lot of range here tonight. The Pirates no runs
on one hit, no error.
Speaker 2 (52:38):
As we strand a couple and we have completed for
the Pirates told. The one nothing leads up around Grove.
Speaker 1 (52:43):
City, Pensilvy, Ana. They still remember a home run that
was hit by Josh Gibson the same as blackcatcher who
played for the Homestead Grades. The ball Gibson hit at
College Field was still rising when the clear of the
left center field fence at three hundred and sixteen feet
and they see.
Speaker 2 (52:55):
And steeled over a row of wlllow trees and landed
beside the boat dock at the far side of Lovers
that's some six hundred feet from home plate. Now that's
a shot worth remembering.
Speaker 1 (53:05):
And here's a shot worth remembering from Union National Bank.
If you bank by mail with them, they pay the
postage both ways. And they're a major local bank that
does that. Now, before you say that doesn't sound like much,
when's the last time you bought stamps?
Speaker 2 (53:19):
Those little babies really add up at a dime of peace.
Why if you back by mail just twice.
Speaker 1 (53:23):
A month at Union National, you'll say four dollars and
eighty cents a year just in postage, and that's enough
to buy a little bon bond. Bitch. Yes it's Union National.
There's still a bank member FBIC Jerry Royce sitting one.
Speaker 2 (53:44):
Nothing goes into the fifth inning against Joe Tory, Bake,
McBride and Kenny reach the five.
Speaker 1 (53:49):
Six and seven daughters and while we have a chance.
Was for us twenty seconds for our local stations. Now
more than every the liverhoods are as. So now it's
the time to call on the computer computer.
Speaker 4 (54:00):
If you're still trying to find your way to and
from Pittsburgh, contact your computers.
Speaker 2 (54:14):
Here's a pitch by Gil roy to Joe Tory leading
off the fect the car ball then's in there at
an easttrack one.
Speaker 1 (54:20):
Tory bounced into a five four to three double play.
Speaker 2 (54:22):
In the second thing, the on one pitch by Royce
hits fall off there any Japan with that pitch to
count of one and two.
Speaker 1 (54:33):
Tory one of those players that.
Speaker 2 (54:34):
Suddenly realized you can't play baseball with too much weight
on you swim down and had that great season in
nineteen seventy.
Speaker 1 (54:41):
Most valuable Player, just edging out Willie Stargel. Well, he's
been edged out more than than anybody. And rather controversial
one too. That was here the Pirates won the pennant
in nineteen seventy. But sorry got it.
Speaker 2 (54:58):
The O two pitch up high and account of one
ball two strake.
Speaker 1 (55:08):
Tory's had ten home runs.
Speaker 2 (55:12):
Tough guy when he goes.
Speaker 1 (55:13):
Right up the middle of one two pits swings and
lets us strike three and Royce sticks up number six.
He has struck out three and earlier, and Tory chased
a very bad pitch with above the pillow. The camp.
Speaker 2 (55:29):
Take McBride a swinging one single.
Speaker 1 (55:32):
In the second and he rule the base it by
official score Charlie Foene tonight the throw by Royce hitting
him in the back, he went to second base.
Speaker 2 (55:40):
On the air, this fella the rookie of the year.
I would just curve ball down, oh, Greg Gross secondly
being given consideration, but haven't been too many guys have
had rookie years like this fellow.
Speaker 1 (55:51):
With a winning block book like Loose Lace and Iron
City and his rookie year high fil back out of
play just above our broadcasting Bluth. One ball in one stake.
I had a very fine time out at the Lincoln.
Speaker 2 (56:07):
Hills Golf Club yesterday at the Lions Clubs first annual
I Bank Tournament, Great to Charity events. A lot of
the pirates on hand.
Speaker 1 (56:16):
The one one pitch fastball up I two balls in
the strike you exsting by the name.
Speaker 2 (56:21):
Of Aubrey from up around and Butler almost.
Speaker 1 (56:24):
Broke the course record out there of the sixty five,
the two one pitch bob back out of play off
the third base side. Actually the count of tune two.
Mart McKennon received many gifts here tonight, and one of
a very fine picture be given by.
Speaker 2 (56:42):
Iron City Beer.
Speaker 1 (56:45):
The all four of Seal.
Speaker 2 (56:46):
At nighttime scene, the two two pitch hard shot the
second base send it to his right.
Speaker 1 (56:51):
He's up with it. He's got him. At first, I
lot a job, mister Sennitts.
Speaker 2 (56:55):
Then after a slow start, and he didn't understand why
rookie making his first full time job at second base,
taking it away from Dave Cash. He has gone well.
I've mentioned before, fifty one consecutive games with that in air.
He has handled three chances here this evening, three hundred
and twenty times now without making an air. Kenny Read's
(57:19):
first ball, hitting files back out of play, strike one,
he flied to center field his first time.
Speaker 1 (57:25):
Now we mentioned that Royce doesn't strike out too many here,
He didn't this year, and he has six already. That's
the season high for a nine inning squad. Now he's
changed his pitching style. He adrenalinem blown a little.
Speaker 2 (57:36):
Bit faster through the veins here tonight, I would guess
pitch missing inside one ball on one straight, Philly's got
to run.
Speaker 1 (57:42):
On the bottom of the third day, tied one one,
Tom Vitoria to leave pitching that game in the Cubs,
the one one pitch swinging in a foul back off
the glove at sang In. Talk about guys that are
tough to walk. This sped the last year to fewer
walks than anybody in the National League, only eight. I
think he's walked a few more times year he has
twenty two times.
Speaker 2 (58:01):
They've made him be a little a bit more selective,
and he's good hitter. For him hitting at two seventy nine,
Kenny reads and about as good at third basement as
you'll flied in baseball.
Speaker 1 (58:12):
One two pitch swinging a miss Night three and Royce
just leans on nothing but fastball that time.
Speaker 3 (58:18):
He strikes that two.
Speaker 2 (58:19):
Listening he has seven in the ball game, and he
leads as we go to the bottom of the fifth inning,
the fires out in front, one to nothing. Do you
(58:40):
know the number on your inspection sticker?
Speaker 5 (58:42):
If your Pennsylvania inspection sticker is number one, Now is
the time to get.
Speaker 2 (58:47):
Your car inspected. Remember, do it now before your numbers.
Speaker 1 (58:50):
Up for rush.
Speaker 9 (59:00):
Out there?
Speaker 1 (59:05):
How would you react if you knew there was only
a year and a half to left.
Speaker 8 (59:09):
I'm John Haydar inviting me to listen to sixty to
six Hills tonight for a new series length's final adventure to.
Speaker 1 (59:15):
Look at how a terminal patient faces a fatal diagnosis.
During sixty to six Hills, Here on, Katie k Elly
applause here.
Speaker 2 (59:31):
In the background for Jerry Right, who's on his way
to a good ball game here to Night Swings. He's
the batter fouls the pitch back on a play striking
Jerry flyde and left there certain rights the former cardinal
when Augie Bush get a little bit angry over there,
decided to clean house. And he was one of the
guys that he shipped down and Houston.
Speaker 1 (59:49):
Joe Brown traded Milk May for him, and it's been
a big trade.
Speaker 2 (59:52):
You know.
Speaker 1 (59:52):
One pitch why ball the center.
Speaker 6 (59:54):
Fee a well hit say be Pride with great speet
on the warning track and got it for the art.
Speaker 1 (59:58):
That is the best hit ball the season by Jerry Roy.
Speaker 2 (01:00:02):
But the fedious guy in the ballpark, Bake mccride, ran
it down on the warning track in center field. There's
a big ball game for the Bucks, and they're playing
good baseball here tonight.
Speaker 1 (01:00:14):
And they didn't play bad baseball on the road.
Speaker 2 (01:00:15):
At all, except for that one contest in Montreal where
you're just.
Speaker 1 (01:00:19):
Bombed seventeen to two. But defensively they've done the job.
Ronnie sent it well for two, popped the short line
the right deal, had his heading streak snapped in Montreal.
Speaker 2 (01:00:36):
Swing's on a curve and he missed it.
Speaker 1 (01:00:38):
Strike one.
Speaker 2 (01:00:43):
Gibson at age thirty eight, he'll be thirty nine in
just two months. An amazing athlete. The O one pitch
round ball. If their reach, the good fielder comes up
with it, he throws him out at first, two down.
Speaker 1 (01:00:56):
Gibson coming up with a sinking fastball at.
Speaker 2 (01:00:58):
Time, turned it over inside of running, got an easy
out of third, and with two down, nobody on on
the Pirates have an opportunity to get them two out
of lightning, going again as they did in.
Speaker 1 (01:01:07):
The first inning.
Speaker 2 (01:01:08):
That's the only run of the ball game the Pirates.
With two downs the first inning, Oliver got a change
up from Gibson.
Speaker 1 (01:01:13):
It is nine to them.
Speaker 2 (01:01:14):
Run the shift on against Richie fastball, away ball one
Boston leads Detroit three to two.
Speaker 1 (01:01:22):
That's after four winnings. A player at ten way part
Kepner singled in two at bats, takes a fastball to
tie from Gibson.
Speaker 2 (01:01:30):
Two balls and those strikes. Lou Brock and Kenny Reachs
the only two players on the left side of the.
Speaker 1 (01:01:38):
Entire wall part. The two oz picks fill back out.
Speaker 2 (01:01:43):
Of players he jammed Vibnor and the counted two balls.
In his strength. Rock is one hundred feet off the
line in left field, reached guarding the line a little
bit closer.
Speaker 1 (01:01:53):
Than he had been before. He's about twenty feet off
the line file by having.
Speaker 2 (01:01:57):
Her off the third base side and the count of
two and two, Tyson directly behind the bag at second.
Speaker 1 (01:02:02):
Base, moving over a bit now. Alice Gibson has acquired
two strikes on evener, he.
Speaker 2 (01:02:07):
Has shifted a little bit more over on the third
day side of second The line up on the two
tooth pitch turk ball bends outside.
Speaker 1 (01:02:18):
Full count of tran two. He tried to bring it
over the outside corner.
Speaker 2 (01:02:21):
But it just hung out there.
Speaker 1 (01:02:23):
Pull count of tran two, Oliver waiting on deck and
the pitch hard shot first base.
Speaker 2 (01:02:29):
Sid Toy will take it unassisted.
Speaker 1 (01:02:30):
That will retire the pirates and assist thing we get
down in the water. We complete aside and a rapidly
played ball games. The pirates lead one. Then I think
some people think we played crump on all day the
us this is all fun and games.
Speaker 5 (01:02:46):
Today the USO has millions of problems.
Speaker 2 (01:02:48):
Like this one.
Speaker 1 (01:02:49):
In Germany, my family's going crazy living in the tiny apartment.
Where can we live?
Speaker 5 (01:02:54):
Today's USO has millions of problems like this one. In Asia,
I'm looked on drugs. Where can I get help for
this problem?
Speaker 1 (01:03:01):
In Athens, our marriage is breaking up?
Speaker 2 (01:03:04):
Can you help us?
Speaker 1 (01:03:06):
Today's USO has little time for ping pong.
Speaker 5 (01:03:09):
We've got serious work to do. We've got lots of
new problems here and overseas.
Speaker 1 (01:03:14):
The problems are big.
Speaker 2 (01:03:15):
How big?
Speaker 5 (01:03:16):
Well, if someone asks you who leaves the USO, tell them.
Speaker 2 (01:03:22):
Over.
Speaker 5 (01:03:23):
Finally, an American military personnel and their families need today's USO.
And because we get no government funds, we need or
your support. Please give to USO through the United Way
or local USO campaign.
Speaker 2 (01:03:41):
Sixth Inning for Saint Louis. It'll be Typhon, Mike tythan
Bob Gibson and Little Rock to go against Jerry Rice
and the fans being reminded that next Sunday against the
Saint against the New York Mess, it will be a
fan appreciation day and are getting a look at some
of the prizes its fans will beginning on that.
Speaker 1 (01:03:58):
Big annual day.
Speaker 2 (01:03:59):
Hope you'll beyond here, for it will be a big.
Speaker 1 (01:04:01):
Day for you, and I hope for the Bucks two
as they take on the MIT. Oh, we've got the
opportunity here.
Speaker 2 (01:04:06):
Let's prise twenty seconds for our local station.
Speaker 1 (01:04:13):
The Pirates have really got to put it together now.
And if you want them to drive for five and
take the World Series two down for time to back
the Bucks show us we're with them all the way.
Speaker 10 (01:04:23):
Katie k hey think Pirate baseball is a series business,
all right.
Speaker 2 (01:04:33):
Mike Tyson standing in the single the right field back
in the third was erased on a force Flay Yank
getting Baltimore scoreless at New York at the end of two,
Pirates leading here one nothing in the five home run
Hal Oliver, that's it. Russ and Gibson are brown hard
at each other. Her ball along the way, ball on Tyson,
(01:04:58):
Gibson and Brock Here the cardinal sixth inning. Now to
one all a pie ball to to Mike, single back,
and the third there's a strike ball two strike one
(01:05:28):
bringing a messign a curve ball strike two. ROAs thus
far Barn boring down. I'm bearing down. It's just bowed
his back and is going at him. Then our best
wishes to Bipment Williams of Mars, Pennsylvania, recuperating from surgery.
Fowl back to two. He's a great fire twan Mike
(01:05:56):
Tyson two balls, two strikes right and batter I field
shallow straight at Royce deliveries and a fly ball at
center and Aliper getting under one out. I don't bring up.
Bob gets him. He struck out in the third. Well
(01:06:16):
Knegie Tech in those days Canegie Mellon now one of
their great and most immortal athletes. Howard Harpster and his
wife Peggy taking in the ball game tonight. Howard the
quarterback and all time all of America from Kenegie Tech.
Remember the Football Hall of Fame and the Helms Foundation
(01:06:37):
file back by Gibson good Rip. Howard, of course, engineered,
along with his teammates, two of the most stunning up
shuts in all time football history against Notre Dame, in
which he dropkicked them in the submission most of the
time in the mudd at Forbes Field and out at
Cardier Field at Notre Dame back in the twenties. Good
(01:06:59):
to see a poll one ball, one strike to Gibson
one nothing Pittsburgh one out and then on change up
been there called strike two. Beautiful. Nice to have Lanny
Ferti from the Charleston Charlie's here with us. The voice
(01:07:21):
of the Charleston Charlie is our top farm club. Ball
one and strike two. We'll have Lenny on with us,
a little bit young man announcing in our chain basketball
inside and the two two can Tom Seaver and John
Mattlack scheduled to go tomorrow in the twin enters. The
(01:07:42):
Meds in Montreal were ringed out to two file back.
This may change their pitching assignment when they come in here.
And the weather forecast for tomorrow is not good in
Montreal either, and they may have to hold Montreal over
the over there, that is New York over there to Thursday.
Little thing helps to two high ball free to give
(01:08:04):
it so Gibson's running count full now three balls two
tracks one out and then on Pirate's leading by the
score one, I think home run by or hal olivery
pitch fowl back, three balls, two tracks, touchdown the old
(01:08:42):
man that was close and just inside, and Royce said
he had him had the walk. That's going to bring
up Blue Brock. Now who's over too. He struck out
and bounced into a port class. So bybe get some
walks on down the first with his warm up jacket.
On Pirates leading one nothing, Gibson kept filing him off
(01:09:02):
and finally worked it down to free and two. And
I'm watching on the Cardinal replay, and out said him
through my that fitch looked like strike three on the
replay from the Cardinal telecasts, and you can see saying
again just screaming, but it was called the ball. So
we have now Gibson at first and blocked the better
(01:09:25):
foul ball. No balls and a strike theyt feel around
to the left. Right field is just giving Lou about
eighty feet of the line. Foul tips strike two. Royce
(01:09:51):
tonight pitching with more velocity than I've seen him come
up with in quite a while. He's adrenaliness flowing here tonight,
one to nothing, as a result of a two out
homer by Al Oliver, a ball he had to hit
with a nine nine? Was that a little off the plate,
just barely above it? When he bangled in the right
for the home run, No balls, two strikes. Gibson shortly
(01:10:21):
is first held by Kirkpatrick. He's running throwing as Sam
Gien down to Stennet panty tag Gibson. He's out. That's
an unusual situation. Somebody missed something there. The play was
two to four on Gibson account of the ball and
two strikes to Brock. And I can't believe but what
(01:10:44):
somebody missed the sign. Somebody missed the sign or misinterpreted one.
You don't normally see a picture running in that situation.
Sam Gan now has cut down too, like that rock
in the third and now Gibson here in the sixth. Oh,
(01:11:06):
that'll be interestinct to find out what happened there. Later on,
once you pitch check swing foul to the left out
of play. Either Brock missed the sign if there was one,
and if there was one and he missed it or
didn't miss it, there might not have been one and
gives them thought there was one. That's the only way
I can explain it to you. Ball one and strike
(01:11:28):
two to brock Royce. Ready, that came out swinging, and
that is number eight. What a god we got at
the bottom of the sixth heading Rit's on top one nothing.
Speaker 10 (01:11:45):
This is Juff Lindner Post, the reporter at your local
post officers. At this very moment, right in front of me,
an unbelievable thing is happening. I'm watching a giant machine
sort letters at the incredible speed of nine letters a second.
I'm going to try to interview some of these letters.
Speaker 1 (01:12:00):
See how it goes. Hi, there are you the Oh,
that letter's gone already. I better move up the.
Speaker 10 (01:12:05):
Line of it and see if I can get another
letter to talk to me.
Speaker 2 (01:12:07):
Hi, where are you going to?
Speaker 1 (01:12:09):
Wyoming? Signs? Zip code? Eat too one nine.
Speaker 10 (01:12:13):
That's what you just heard for the letter. Let's talk
to another one.
Speaker 1 (01:12:16):
And where are you going? Little letter?
Speaker 2 (01:12:17):
You're there in Ohio?
Speaker 4 (01:12:19):
Gip code spat out there?
Speaker 10 (01:12:22):
Oh, one letter has just been taken out, so everything's
slowing down. The pardon letter.
Speaker 1 (01:12:26):
But what's happened here? I have to go on attle
zip sorting then didn't have a zip code.
Speaker 10 (01:12:31):
But you are just going across town.
Speaker 1 (01:12:32):
They'll need a local zip code, and they're writing in
the pharm book.
Speaker 10 (01:12:35):
Well, I guess a letter going across town needs a
zip code as much as a letter going across the country,
Miss Jepplin, they're recording to you from the book.
Speaker 2 (01:12:42):
Shoppers. All are standing in Gets's delivery right off the
batthandle down a second basement size more bad. Hoppy controls
it beautifully and throws him out. That'll bring up Richie's ask.
Bounce into a fourth play to a walk, getson wasting
(01:13:03):
no time, right back in there, Shoppy and check. That
brings up the schargele high fly left fields rock. Ritchie's
(01:13:45):
esk is a batter, bouncing the force and walked, bringing
the miss strike one mm, no balls, and a strike
two down. Then on this Capoul up the long first,
running over Florida's tory, and he's got it. That'll retire
the side. So Gibson disposes of the bucks and the
(01:14:09):
sixth inning here very quickly. At the end of six
were one nothing. Pittsburgh. When you need a break job,
make sure you get new brakeshoes too. Now how do
you do that? Well, the surest way is to ask
for Delcol breaks because with Delco breaks, you always get
new shoes as well as new linings. Delko brakeshoes are
properly shaped and finished at the factory, and they've been
(01:14:32):
tutored with a special rust inhibitor. Now.
Speaker 1 (01:14:35):
The lining on Delco.
Speaker 2 (01:14:36):
Breakeshoes also has a unique feature called Crown ground finish.
This special finishing process makes the break in period easier
for you because it lets the lining shape itself quickly
to the drum. Their engineered to prevent pulling to the
right or the left during break in. So if you're
in a car right now and those breaks don't feel
just right, stop at the red, white and blue Delko sign.
Speaker 1 (01:14:57):
The more you know, the more you'll want.
Speaker 2 (01:15:00):
Delco a light leveled at Homestead Automotive Supply eight four
or six Forest Avenue in West Homstead, Coesell Auto Parts
twenty seven to seventy four South Park Road in Bethel
Park and West Liberty Auto Parts at seventeen eighty nine
West Liberty Avenue in the South Hills. The final hunting
to the nice game will be sent you away by
(01:15:20):
Iron City Beer when you're really headed to pour it
on four on the Iron Sizemore or Smith and Simmons
will leave it off. In the seven's inning against.
Speaker 1 (01:15:28):
Jerry Royce, he struck out Sizemore in the first and
didn't got him to fly to center field in the pot.
Speaker 2 (01:15:33):
Jerry said eight strikeouts too, fourth and six.
Speaker 1 (01:15:36):
Was the previous high in nine innings for him.
Speaker 2 (01:15:44):
Four five seettenant tonight twenty one, four hundred and fifty eight.
Here's the pitch to Sizemore popped up off the right side.
Running senates startifact that he'll come on to make the
grab and Gibson and a racer setting them down an
order here. That is twelve in a row for Jerry Royce.
(01:16:08):
Gibson has retired one, two, three, four, five, six, seven
to eight in a row. Lin gam just an hour
and a half all not quite an hour and a half,
and we're another seventh tenty Smith over too struck out
his last time.
Speaker 1 (01:16:22):
Up coatball by Jerry's down, who oh ball one all right?
Speaker 2 (01:16:31):
Pull around left field on Smith fastball popped up behind
home plate.
Speaker 1 (01:16:35):
Sank g appears to have a play.
Speaker 2 (01:16:36):
He does near the screen.
Speaker 1 (01:16:38):
He's got him show down. I have a crowd of
twenty one four hundred.
Speaker 2 (01:16:44):
And fifty eight, seeing a tight ballgame as you might
have expected with a guy like Gibson and Race doing tomorrow.
Much in the same should be happening with Jim Hooker.
Speaker 1 (01:16:52):
Who's been as consistent as anybody on our.
Speaker 2 (01:16:54):
Staff, going against your top pitcher, Lynn mcgloughlin mcgloughlin and nine.
Speaker 1 (01:17:00):
He's the winningest pitcher on the Cardinals and he doesn't
run everage.
Speaker 2 (01:17:03):
Just two point sixcess ted.
Speaker 1 (01:17:06):
Simmons walked and struck out in two plate appearances, one nothing.
Speaker 2 (01:17:09):
Leading for Royce to Codwallers up high ball one.
Speaker 1 (01:17:12):
Jerry thought he had a strike dead time. Take a
long look in Ruoker's record.
Speaker 2 (01:17:20):
He'll be going tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (01:17:20):
Twelve and eleven and then run average two point nine five.
Speaker 2 (01:17:25):
Here's the one oh.
Speaker 1 (01:17:25):
Pitch fifth ball outside two balls.
Speaker 2 (01:17:28):
In those strikes.
Speaker 1 (01:17:29):
This is a long ball potential for the Cardinals. Ere Smith, Simmons,
and Tory in that order twenty two, seventeen and ten
home runs respectably.
Speaker 2 (01:17:39):
Here's a two O pitch Wine drive. What's deal down
into the corner, picked off by Stardule. He hold it
with the long single. Simmons doesn't run that well and
really hustles the ball in the second on the straight
hands at thirteen in a row, and it brings up
Joe Tory.
Speaker 1 (01:17:52):
Who bounced into a double play in the second, struck
out in the fifth. Yes, the Tigers got two runs
the sixth inning of George Mettich. They lead.
Speaker 2 (01:18:02):
Now I'm sorry they didn't get it off minute. They
lead four to three into the bottom of the sixth
inning at Tenway Park, Baltimar are playing at Chase Stadium
against New York No story after three Jim Palmer going
in that game, two out single, time called, and I
believe a box called on Jerry Royce.
Speaker 1 (01:18:20):
It is a big move by Royce.
Speaker 2 (01:18:22):
Evidently broke his hands in time called now.
Speaker 1 (01:18:25):
As Murtall wants to discuss this case a television sit here,
I didn't see them move.
Speaker 2 (01:18:29):
By a race.
Speaker 1 (01:18:31):
The umpire at first base got the attention first of
they stepped out. As what happened, they called time.
Speaker 2 (01:18:42):
The home plate umpire had called time when Royce called
the box. There was time called in the ballgame when
that park was called an unusual stead of circumstances. Murtall
lost the argument, but very definitely on here a bock
was called.
Speaker 1 (01:18:57):
As time was called by the batter Joe Torre. They've
got a runner in the scoring position.
Speaker 2 (01:19:02):
That's the tying run, and Tory at bet Wine drive.
It's fair down the right, beyond the left the line
at the base it it's in there for two and
Tory ties.
Speaker 1 (01:19:11):
The ball game, and that's going to be a disputed sway.
I'll tell you that.
Speaker 2 (01:19:16):
Royce was called for a bock after the home play
humpire had call time.
Speaker 1 (01:19:20):
The first based umpire called the block. That was Jerry Dale.
We lost the argument. The runner moved in the scoring
position and Tory quickly.
Speaker 2 (01:19:28):
Doubled down the left the line to drive in his
sixty fourth run, and we've got a tie game one one.
Speaker 1 (01:19:37):
Rent To very quickly came out to argue with Doug Harvey,
but he didn't argue very long with evident Lee.
Speaker 2 (01:19:43):
Harvey said that he didn't call time before the block
was called, but it sure looked like that on the
television replay. Race now pitching for life here with.
Speaker 1 (01:19:52):
A tie game.
Speaker 2 (01:19:52):
We've got a runner at second and Tory the better
at bake McBride the pitch by right. He is up
high ball one here he unclicked the festivall at times
now the Cardinals come back with two outs and nobody on.
Simmons lining a single in the left field, Tory doubling
the left and it tatted up one one, the one
(01:20:16):
zero pitch foul back at a players and the Lesbio
lion rapper the count of one on one. Mike Ryan
had hustled out of the Pirates did ut joining him.
Now marry a Mendoza. They're going down with the bulls
and some stirring down there, but no thrilling is yet.
Speaker 1 (01:20:36):
Tory at second base, he's the go ahead run in
a tie game.
Speaker 2 (01:20:39):
Seventhiny curd ball hung high and inside, two balls in
the strike, Jerry checking a second watched Tory the pitch
(01:21:00):
Madam McBride, high pop up off of let's sorry, Taveras
will make the play.
Speaker 1 (01:21:03):
I believe in fo territory he does, and have to
retire the Cardinals from the seventh inning.
Speaker 2 (01:21:08):
So they got a gift runs one run, two hits,
no air at the park, and one left and we'll
go to the bottom of the seventh inning tied one one.
You know, baseball is full of little rituals that stay
the same year after year. Baseball things have their rituals, too,
like getting the house ready to watch the Pirates with
a case of two ice cold Iron City Beer. Just
(01:21:28):
make sure they're all frosty cold. Then you can sit
back and relax and enjoy the game without worrying about
a thing. With a case of twelve ounces, you've got
a boot them. It'll hold up for a lot of experience.
You've got a supply of the richest tasteous beer a
baseball fan ever had from the very first pitch. The
hardywool bus flavor of Iron City Beer will make a
cold hodge strike a little leisure to take, or a
(01:21:49):
pirate home run a little more special, and that rich
flavor stays with you beer after beer, inning, after eating.
There's no better way to enjoy these be ups and
downs than the constant excitement of pirate base ball. Then
with a tall, frosty Iron City Beer. So it stop
by you're a distributor and pick up a case or
two of twelve ounces or sixteen ouncers.
Speaker 1 (01:22:08):
And get ready. Well here we're ready to point arm
hey pour.
Speaker 2 (01:22:12):
On the.
Speaker 1 (01:22:16):
Well. A rather rid call.
Speaker 2 (01:22:17):
It's caused the fire to run here and not much
of an argument, as Marteau and have to argue with
Doug Harvey.
Speaker 1 (01:22:22):
But on the screen the shot from behind the center
field or behind the mound showed Royce on.
Speaker 2 (01:22:27):
The mound with his hands half the belt and if
at the time he came there, Joe Tory stepped up
the whole play on fire call time, Hoyst broke his
hands and the umpire first call bought on him.
Speaker 1 (01:22:38):
They moved him into second and the double scored him.
He wouldn't have scored from first base on that double
by Tory down and left the line. Simmons doesn't run
that well. Catch the saga in opening up the seventh
Tonion's outside for a ball.
Speaker 2 (01:22:51):
And a ground ball the second base Sizemore will take
the out on tangium one down. That's nine iner row
for Bob Gibson since the single. They sang a game
In the fourth inning, kirk Patrick with a single and
a strike out in two.
Speaker 1 (01:23:09):
Times at fat steps in. This is a big out
of the ball game for Gibson.
Speaker 2 (01:23:14):
In the fourth inning, with runners at fourth and third, Kirkpatrick,
who doesn't strike out much, was struck out by Gibson
fastball down the world ball one and he did it
with good hard stuff. In the first two strikes and
then got him on a big sharp breaking curveball.
Speaker 1 (01:23:31):
Pirates have activity.
Speaker 2 (01:23:34):
Get in there, bullpen pastball.
Speaker 1 (01:23:36):
In there taken by any in account.
Speaker 2 (01:23:37):
Of one on one, I would assume him it's Dave
Jesse and Raymond Hernandez. It is.
Speaker 1 (01:23:44):
Tie game one one and the pitch change up is
just too high. Two balls in a straight the two
one pitch down wholl ball.
Speaker 2 (01:24:02):
Three Cavarus beyond deck batter. But as I said, Mendoza's
going down to the bullfend.
Speaker 1 (01:24:08):
Rita usually pin ships. At this time we are for
station identification. Let's cause ten seconds in the Pirates baseball effort.
Speaker 2 (01:24:16):
The good b kirk Patrick bouncing weekly the second base
and Seizemores got him at first.
Speaker 1 (01:24:31):
Two down, Cavarus will stay in the.
Speaker 2 (01:24:34):
Ball game and bat here in the seventh and name
with nobody on two out, we're tied one. Once the
wind up by Gibson on the pitch blowing outside ball.
Once it's ten in a row four Gibson.
Speaker 1 (01:24:57):
Jerry Royce the on deck better pitch tide ball right
up the middle, picked up by Titan, dropped it he
has He'll play my well head ball up the middle,
pass Gibson.
Speaker 6 (01:25:07):
The Tyson playing over there, tried to cut it off
at the bag and had to play apparently, but it
popple out of his glove and an.
Speaker 1 (01:25:13):
Air charged to the short step. Mike Tyson got the
buckstef Rice and steel down right tide death. He's gonna
stay with Jerry Royce and not got off the bulls
in here in the eighth inning. Rice will stay in
the game. Niguel b Jna hunting down.
Speaker 2 (01:25:27):
To the bullpen.
Speaker 1 (01:25:28):
He is a pitch to Jerry Foal that'll play down
the LEFTBIA.
Speaker 2 (01:25:31):
Line for a state.
Speaker 1 (01:25:32):
Cubs get three runs in the fifth inning and he
leaves the Phillies four to one. Tid nos in another
tai contest.
Speaker 2 (01:25:45):
They've had a few of those this past week. Court
Ball applied by Gibson one ball and one.
Speaker 1 (01:25:50):
Strength, twenty five innings.
Speaker 2 (01:25:53):
In Shay Stadium last week seventeen in Philadelphia. The one
one pitch ground Paul Weekly the second base and the
sophomore retreating shows them out at three the parts in
the seventh thinking, no runs, no hits, one air, one
left and we've completed seven and we're tied one on.
Speaker 1 (01:26:13):
Well, we're doing right down at the end of a
little great air of baseball.
Speaker 2 (01:26:16):
And about this time a lot of them start.
Speaker 1 (01:26:17):
Taking about the playoffs in the series. And I'm sure
you'll be good when the TV and radio matter what
team makes it. And you know one thing had to
have with tables. Iron City beer. It's a great bear.
Speaker 2 (01:26:28):
Just pop up on a.
Speaker 1 (01:26:28):
Big cold bottle of iron and will see for yourself.
Speaker 2 (01:26:31):
Only of the very best.
Speaker 1 (01:26:32):
Radians can give the beer that golden color, and only
the finest brewing can create a curly head like that
and a.
Speaker 8 (01:26:38):
Freshly poured glass and Iron Well, that's a picture of
a profession that having really big gaping understands Now, go ahead,
take as hip a beer that good look, animals, mass
for tasting, Martin and ka flavor low busting, which is
gonna leave believe you mean it's pure good gap base satisfaction.
Speaker 1 (01:26:56):
Yes, sir, that's a great bear Iron City beer.
Speaker 8 (01:27:00):
He makes sure you've all we've got a canceled Iron
City I am because when you read the poort on.
Speaker 1 (01:27:06):
You can pour on the iron.
Speaker 2 (01:27:26):
Well. We going down into the eighth inning, and I'll
tell you something, Nellie, I don't understand this rule of
baseball that legislates the guests. I think it's tough number
pictures as it is, but without any question, is you
called it there? In the seventh inning, Simmons was the
runner at first base and Royce goes to the stretch
and just as he's ready to fetch, Tory steps out
and Doug Harvey put his hand up for time, and
(01:27:46):
Royce made it once. Now the cardinal Sims stepped off
the mound and Dale calls it a buck. He broke
his hands before he stepped up, which is, you know,
the common thing called time.
Speaker 1 (01:27:55):
You just you can't make a point.
Speaker 2 (01:27:57):
But why would they have a rule where the rules
sat that when the picture glad to deliver, the batter
cannot get out of there. If he does, it's at
his own risk of it to strike it to strike
if it's the ball at the ball. I think that
rule is definitely against the pictures. And I agree with
your car one hundred percent. I just think it was
very unfair what happened there. Toy stepped out and it
was my opinion, I think he's smart enough. He just
get ready to do what he did and he got
(01:28:19):
a buck out of it. I really believe that's how
smart Tory here he will do.
Speaker 1 (01:28:22):
He's been around line. Do you understand those things?
Speaker 2 (01:28:25):
But I still think to call a drunk, I'd like
to be able to suppress it more strongly than that might.
Know you agree with me. He was ritso for two
foul away and just a lousy rule and the way
it was interpreted, and it was very poorly handled. And
I don't blame Royce for being upset. And I haven't
any idea why we aren't out there arguing yet. I
(01:28:48):
wouldn't let him up on that one. Here's the on
one popped him up first baseman Kirkpatrick, Well, let's win
the game and make it academic. Wan Tyson one for two.
Royce had pitched the magnificent ball game. He had to
be unsettled with that buck call. And then Tory got
(01:29:08):
the line shot down and left the line for the double.
Speaker 1 (01:29:13):
Jack hid him in.
Speaker 2 (01:29:14):
Pinch hitting though good, I hope they don't have the
success we just looked at in the last road trip.
I've never seen so many pinch hitters. We only got
one out in the whole last road trip that came
off the bench. I was Tony Taylor, and he drove
in a run with it. Hired him in batting at
two seventy six, no homers and three runs better, and
then he's batting for Tyson.
Speaker 1 (01:29:34):
They got a host of players the okay, they sure do.
Speaker 2 (01:29:37):
The way they're warming it or a Bosk gift. I
got a feeling they might be getting ready to go
from somebody to bat and place at Gibson too. Had
bullpen of theirs has been fifty impregnable of late outside
to hide him in for a ball.
Speaker 1 (01:29:52):
You can't go eleven in three in September without having
a good relief man.
Speaker 2 (01:29:55):
He's been unbeatable. Well against the Villay the other day,
struck out the side dark with Montager's and company down
inside the ball to and.
Speaker 1 (01:30:05):
Would run at the turf and third and one in
and nobody else.
Speaker 2 (01:30:09):
Zip zip zip one. Well, I'll tell you this one
right here in the seventh inning and defies description. Now
they get away with a two of bounced down to
short stop Tabaris. Hiaman's out, so well, get some junna
back and that's not a bad choice. You know, he's
(01:30:30):
not exactly a lamb up there. He's over one. Tonight
he walked on the pitch and split the plate on
a three two delary. They came back to the cartain
geting on their replay, and it was right smack dab
over the plate, high high, called ball four, and we've died.
But then give some gut. One treated to him the
same way with Taveras up there in the seventh inning,
(01:30:51):
right over the plate, called the ball. So there on
our buddy down behind the dish, curved high ball one
ball one. The Yankees scorers in the four and let's
see it's four to three. Now Detroit over Boston into seven.
One oz. Pitch dips in the strike one and one.
We're in the eighth inning. Two down. Then on Scot
(01:31:14):
died one to one. I had the one one delivery
popped in the shallow center, running hard to Varus coming
on Oliver, and Oliver drops the ball at shallow center
and he's going to be shot over there. Looked like
(01:31:37):
he might have taken his eye off the ball. With
Tavaris running out as hard as he could, we were
walking again. In the cardinal replay. It was a can
of corn really in the shadow center. Ta Veris back,
Oliver comes on, Oh he never, He just put his
glove down there and his head wasn't on it.
Speaker 1 (01:31:53):
I'll say one thing tended in Taveres, really white there ball.
Speaker 2 (01:31:56):
They went after it, but as soon as they saw
Oliver coming, he evidently hollered.
Speaker 1 (01:31:59):
They gave way to him. Wasn't any problem about a
possible collision. Many all is just as you said. It
kind of took his eye off the ball.
Speaker 2 (01:32:05):
Broc is taking his time coming out to give Gibson,
who didn't even run very hard, a chance to get
it's more breath. Brock is over three. No, it's tough
enough beating these Cardinals, and the one tough thing about
it over the last two years, it's unbelievable. Nothing against
the umpiring, but it so happened that every decision has
(01:32:26):
been made on the closest stage. The Fires haven't won one,
starting with a triple play opening night. We never got
one here last year, and we got your SLeague over
two years of spam and we just haven't had the
call go away yet. But if it's not to go,
it's not to go over. They had a Brock and body.
He gets not flat straight wing boll. I mean he
(01:32:47):
doesn't want to flat down. Tideman has gone out to
loosen up. Tyson was batted for by Hidaman. One ball
and those strikes looked the first to pitch file back,
and I'll say one thing, Brock isn't bailing out. He's
hanging in there. Hey, Jerry get a little annoyed when
(01:33:08):
the air occurred, and he got annoyed on the pocket,
and I think.
Speaker 1 (01:33:10):
He just reached back and wanted to throw something as
hard as he could. He wasn't too worried about where
we go like us, just letting out some frustrations.
Speaker 2 (01:33:19):
And he let it out pretty good to file away
off the left line out of play. I'll I'll tell
you one thing. Twenty one and fifty eighty witness in
the one way of a ball game in about twenty
two thousand or missing one. We play one tomorrow and
(01:33:50):
one Thursday.
Speaker 1 (01:33:52):
Here, Rod, Yeah, get some people out here.
Speaker 2 (01:33:58):
Dams her labor day.
Speaker 1 (01:33:59):
He made a concrete him back and her back.
Speaker 2 (01:34:00):
What against the Philly did they here?
Speaker 1 (01:34:03):
It is?
Speaker 2 (01:34:05):
I'd want him two to Brock knocks him off the
plate with a sweeping inside fastball too too, George Tide
one to one by Baddie from Washington.
Speaker 1 (01:34:20):
Here.
Speaker 2 (01:34:20):
I'll tell you this press box to fill where the
writers from all over the eastern part of the United States,
Sports Illustrated Everybody and the two balls, two strikes, Gibson
the renner, first base, rock the batter pitched to him,
smaking ice runner nine stake out, and Jerry Royce has
(01:34:41):
never a pitch the stronger game, and his wife, as
far as he'd been a pirate, he blew that ball right,
fire him, no run, no hits, one air or one left,
and we go to the bottom of the name, or
rather at the bottom of the eighth, and the score
one to one.
Speaker 1 (01:34:57):
You know, there's something special about baseball season to make
everything just a little bit nicer, a little bit better.
Take beer, for instance. For some reason, I'll probably never
understand beer tastes better during baseball season than at any
other time. Anice cold Iron City beer taste great all
the time, don't get me wrong on that. But round
about now, well it's something else again, my friend. The
(01:35:19):
chill sands chilling, the head seams thicker and sweather. The
color tad morise, sparkling golden, and that rich, robust, real
beer flavor lights up your taste bud like nothing I know. Yes,
if baseball gets in your blood around this time in
the year, you know what I mean. So stop there
at your favorite tab and water up a tall, fasty,
iron seedy beer and make a toast if you.
Speaker 2 (01:35:40):
Want to baseball to.
Speaker 1 (01:35:42):
The Pirates, to yourself. Baseball season has something to celebrate.
An Iron City beer is the best way to do
it when you're really ready to pour it on. Pour
on the iron.
Speaker 2 (01:36:04):
All right, hideam and has gone in a shortstop now
as we go on the bottom of the eighth Senate
keeping her and Oliver Night have won award. Then the
best wishes long to missus, Minnie Beam, A happy ninety
for my birthday to her foul Away. You understand she's
in many of Rosie Roosevell' things. My dad, by the way,
(01:36:26):
Rosie's wa her gyp is in time visiting with her children,
and she'll be at the ballpark riding Mom Roosevell ball
one and strike one. He's retired now living down in
Saint Petersburg. Up here for the Zuver Dallas and Bill
and grand children. The one one the Senate low from
(01:36:48):
Get some ball to doing one of my fans are
now we got to the roar and you want to
see him bang here against both Get some ball to
strike one. With senat awaiting the delivery, and here she
comes a high slider ball three. That's uraura. We want
to hear. Come on, three balls and a strike. Gipson again. Ready,
(01:37:15):
he has a fire at a strike coming outside corner
and the count is now three and twos. Then it's
gotting to run it on down in the first place.
Gipson back, ball away, wasting no time. You don't dare
duck your head with food out on the mount. You
better get in here and be ready. Here's the three
(01:37:38):
two and it's grounded up towards Sizemore. He's up. He
throws one out. Don't bring up. Richie Heavener with a
single in three and back back in the third inning,
boping in the right centermirates in the Cardinals locked and
(01:38:00):
the one to one duel Oliver Formert in the first
inning his ninth home end of the year. They're going
to enfield shift dohn Heffner now with itam and going
over on the first base side along with size More
and Torre. They're giving them everything off the left field
side of the line. He takes the night away ball on.
Cardinals scored him the seventh inning with two down, Simmons
(01:38:21):
single the left, and then for the life of me,
hw we let him get away with a buck call
on Royce, I don't know. And then Tory doubled and
that drove in the tying run ball one strack one.
That is a rule that I just can't understand the
way it occurred, and I got to believe that Tory
engineered it. It's how smart I think he is. One
one foul back ball one step too. Just as Royce
(01:38:44):
was set to deliberate, Torre stepped out and there isn't
any questions about it, but played in par put his
right hand up a new he called for time. Royce
then stepped off the mountain and Dale called the bock
on him. Here's the one two pitch up inside too too,
and then Tory hit a ball right down the left
b a line for the double. The tide up. It
was not a tide up the game. If he'd have
(01:39:06):
been the runner first to two pitch change up popped up.
I had him been running back in the shallow center,
coming on McBride and it'll be McBride two down. Here's
an Oliver who's home run back in the first and
he gave us the one to nothing lead in for
(01:39:33):
a strike to He's flushing the car. No balls one strike.
I feel around to the left side. Gibson sends it
in low for the ball too down one one pitch inside,
(01:39:55):
ball three, almost hitting good. Only now Oliver the batter
run Willie Stage, here's a two one inside under his chin,
ball three, three and one. Gibson back on the three
(01:40:19):
to one pitch. Weekly bounced back the Gibson. He flags
it down and throws him out. We've gone through editings
and the scars tied one one. We've gone through editings
and the scars tied one one.
Speaker 1 (01:40:33):
Yeah. Joy, not a good idea to do things halfways.
But every rule has us exception, and the folks at
Iron City have come up with the exception of that one.
The half a case twelve twelve ounce cans of rich
rewarding Iron City beer, and it comes in one convenient package.
It makes buying Iron City beer just a little bit
easier because you can pick up the half a case
of Iron City cans at your favorite tavern. So the
(01:40:55):
next time you're in there and enjoying the company, the
friendship and a couple of cools, rafts of Iron City Beer.
Remember to ask for half a case before you head
for home. That way it will be darn sure you
have enough Iron City Beer on head in case friends
drop five? Or are you going to step back in
your favorite chair to spoil yourself a little with the
most beer pleasure you can get from a twelve douns can.
(01:41:16):
From the moment you crack open the can and watch
that sparkling golden richness tumble into your favorite glass, you
know you're in for a special treat, So treat yourself
to half a case of Iron City Beer when you're
really ready to pour it on. Pour on the Iron.
Speaker 2 (01:41:34):
For all do you budding artists and even those of
the of you who create art for a living. Here's
a once in a lifetime opportunity to win twenty five
hundred dollars and gain some fame at the same time.
You know, nineteen seventy six is the National League's one
hundred year and they're looking for a logo a symbol
to use throughout the season. The league was founded in
New York in eighteen seventy six, So come up with
(01:41:54):
your idea of a National League logo and nail it
to logo contests Pittsburgh Bret three Rivers Meadium, six hundred
Stadium Circle, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The deadline in December first of
this year. You don't have to live in the Pittsburgh
area to enter. Anyone can enter the contest. All entries
become the property of a National league for youth by
the league. I had the batter Sizemore and ball on
(01:42:17):
to him. He's over three, struck out, flight to center
five to second. Royce back with a breaking ball on
the inside, ball to to Sis Morris Smiphens Simmons. Here
in the nineteening part of Cardinals game tide one to one.
All right, it's broke on time for the moment by Oliverer.
The Cardinals tatted in the seventh from the player that
I do'll not believe for a long time. Two oh
(01:42:37):
pitch ball three. Royce had just pitched his heart eye
tonight with names strikeout, visibly upset on the buck call.
In the seventh inning, strike count three at lun drop
Skinner comes out, signals to the bullpen, get a lefty
(01:42:57):
inner radio three and one account here the size more
he has walked in and that is the second walk,
third walk. That's gonna bring up Reggie Smith, who's over three.
Reggie the first struck out found out to the catcher
(01:43:19):
just he uh, Hern ends uh, they're gonna be looking here,
having her comes up tight at third to Reggie got
tied one one, nineteen eight, pitch high for a ball time,
(01:43:40):
Carl to Verison to try to settle Jerry down a
woman twenty one thousand, four hundred and fifty eight. Here's
a lookover now they want, uh bounce talk third past
(01:44:00):
heaven her in for a base test. Tog go up
and they have runners at first, two, second, and nobody out.
Talking back again on that seventh inningh play with two
out on the buck call when Tory stepped out just
as Royce was set to deliver. Then Royce stepped off
the mound and they called the box, ending Simmons in
the second. This is not the first time we have
discussed this play. We very vividly remember talking about it
(01:44:24):
in Chicago on this last road Tripp, and again in Philadelphia,
and again in Montreal and now here tonight. It comes
up at a time that gives the Cardinals a chance
to tie it again, and they took advantage of it.
In Red and I still believe that Torrey stepped out
at just the last moment hoping to induce the bock.
It's like taking the long count at the wrong time
for the defense and trying to draw an offside or
(01:44:46):
a fast count. And that's wise baseball. But it's a
rule that is imporcible to the detriment of the pitcher
delivered high ball on the Simmons he shortened episode about
they aped him in on nobody out won one ball
game in the night. Simon's looks down a game to
(01:45:07):
Verne Benson inside ball too. Didn't look like he was
gonna try to fund them. Talk about a game with
(01:45:36):
into And there certainly wasn't a ball hit by Reggie
Smith and hit ball just you know, another foot.
Speaker 1 (01:45:42):
Toward Heapner's left and he got a shave double playball.
The ball wasn't hit well.
Speaker 5 (01:45:46):
The all we just had, Anthony, Well, that's what this
game's all about.
Speaker 1 (01:45:53):
You get somebody hit one hard and hit one right action.
Speaker 2 (01:45:56):
You know, we gotta do that. That's an easy guy
to double. If he can't get the old hover. Uh,
here's a two of and it's filed down the left
b line. He really whacked that one. I mean the
way you cut it or slices. This game resolves right
back in the sevente inning buck call. Two balls in
(01:46:21):
the strake file away and ROAs is driving it in
there Chiochio, Simmons walk struck out, got a single, and
then was awarded second on this controversial buck we're talking about.
(01:46:44):
And then Torre, with Royce's visibly upset, got a double
right on the left the A line and then tied
up the game. Now Sizemore as walkin, smith As singles
and the county is two and two. The Simmons did
he strike out? He dead, He's gone. We can't advance
the runners. He's out for swinging. Simmons didn't think he did,
(01:47:09):
but the first place unfire said he did. That's a strikeout.
The runners can advancedly want it. Simmons is dead. They
don't have to tag him. He's down there arguing with it.
But I don't know why he should argue he really
swung on that one. Here he is again on the replay.
His back came all the way around. And now if
he doesn't think on that swing ally that he didn't
swing out quick, I.
Speaker 1 (01:47:28):
Don't know how Dag Harvey this is the offic you.
Speaker 2 (01:47:31):
He didn't call the play at all and finally did
get it on the first day. Think in goodness, the
back came all the way up around his left shoulder.
Did he could follows through it? He'd ahead it.
Speaker 1 (01:47:40):
It might have been a home run.
Speaker 2 (01:47:41):
Here's Tory now, bounce to the double play, struck out
and hit a double came in on topped him up
in the shallow rights. Let's just go all over the court,
tagging it the sack of his size mores. Yes, because
got it. Sizemore's coming for third and they'll have runners
on the corners with two downs to McBride, who's one
for three, an mfield single in the second and he
(01:48:03):
bounced the second and found out of the short stop.
Say it was the pride coming up in a situation
with two hours, You better be alert.
Speaker 1 (01:48:10):
You can't wait back before.
Speaker 2 (01:48:12):
This year because he has great speed.
Speaker 1 (01:48:16):
And I wasborn't coming out. They may just be going
to a left hand here been try and put the hindranettes.
I don't know, but I'm that's you sure. What's gonna
happen is that you've got great speed at third base
in size one.
Speaker 2 (01:48:27):
You've got it. First is Reggie Smith, and you got
unbelievable to meet at the plane in bake me frunt well,
and we got a left hander out there fishing already.
And Roy So I think they're worrying about if they're
going to let Smith run. Let him run, that's true.
I think that's what I'd be talking about. I don't
know she's gonna run some first place. Let him have it.
(01:48:47):
Unless you know you can throw one of the great plays,
there is the fake to throw through and turn and
fire immediately the third you might hang up the guy
at third base. I haven't seen it used too often,
but I guarantee is in great success. Would you throw
You throw like you're going right this second with the ball,
but you don't release it, and then you nail it. Guy,
Sir Fitch McBride a foul back and he hung a
(01:49:08):
fastball right in his eye and he's twenty at foules
straight on the nest. Bake McBride, runners at first and third,
two down, ninth innings, score tied, one one, Get him
out and schedule a one for you, Roy Sie. You
get this guy out at Wilboro. Take him out of here.
Here's a look at the old one bottle off the back,
(01:49:30):
and he didn't want to file out one off.
Speaker 1 (01:49:31):
He wanted to fight out of.
Speaker 2 (01:49:32):
The way and was a high inside pile of back.
Speaker 1 (01:49:34):
Back to Grady to the picking to get out of
this is joy and right in the heart of the light.
Speaker 2 (01:49:39):
Up the way.
Speaker 1 (01:49:40):
This thing all started with a Waston basic.
Speaker 2 (01:49:43):
Well, here's one pitch away from it either way. That's
the funny part about this game. You can be one
pitch away from success or failure. Oh what a game
this is. Tied up one to one of the ninth
inning runners the first and third Bride the batter feat
all over the place. Royce checked. Runners comes to the plate,
iron inside for the ball one and two the Bacon.
(01:50:06):
The guys are great baseball player Bak McBride. Cardinals are
loaded with him, make no mistake about that. Probably have
the fastest team in all of baseball. Their outfield was
the only challenge for speed by the Giants. That'd be
some race with those three outfielders in San Francisco up
against East three, one ball and two strikes to Bake McBride.
(01:50:27):
He's up there, left handed, Ruys checks his Runners comes
to the plate, high ball to two two. I've not
seen Jerry fix with such determination as he pitched tonight.
A two balls tasted, I count to bake McBride size
(01:50:47):
more walk went the second on the single by Smith
Simmons struck out Tory flight therect Now the two two
to McBride high ball three, three and two, and now
the runner first will be off and gone right pitching
for everything he's got right here, Ernandz and Justy already
(01:51:08):
if they need, they've had sufficient time to warm up,
kept their guarding the line as well as Kirkpatrick sold
McBride on a three two count. Waiting the pitch, he
took a cast inside and a Royce saught he had
strike three. He little lest at that one. That's ball four.
(01:51:32):
That's the fourth block, and the bases are loaded, and
that'll bring up a tough man. And Kenny Reechs, who's
over three ride the center, struck out and fouled out
the first base. So the bases are loaded. Now to
reach our right hand batter. This was the guy he
wanted to get. The man's at first base, McBride, who
he hung in on another two count and ran it
up to where he got ball four. Now we'll see
(01:51:55):
I feel around to the left. Bases loaded, two down,
Cardinals from the Pirates one to one. Pitch the Reachs
high ball on sands in. Let's see the dug out
a moment the Royce comes out the mound. They chat
a little bit in between the pitcher's mound and home play.
Cardinals are used to playing the next inning baseball. They've
(01:52:15):
been about the honest club in all the National League
of the Way. Won a game in twenty five innings,
seventeen innings, all them in the space of three days.
One ball in those strikes, and here comes to pitch
the Reachs. Why ball sad field out Ali a drifted
back getting under a can of corn heat out of
the great pitch ain't by Kerry roy Norah and one
(01:52:41):
hit nor they leave free. Now that's twenty and the
ninth ending with a home run by Styckels. See how
many plans have you heard me talk about the new
cow hide baseball and how string it seems not to
call it the horse side. Well, my friends, it's still
the old float. It just a different package s of
like the new half a case of Iron City beer. Yes,
(01:53:02):
Iron City Beer now comes in a brand new package.
Half a case. But it's still the same rich, hearty
Iron City beer that you've been enjoying all along. It's
just that now you can buy twelve cans of ice cold,
first beating Iron City beer in one convenience, easy to
carry package. If you know what makes it even more convenience, well,
you can buy it right at your family neighborhood tavern.
Speaker 1 (01:53:22):
You can't beat that, now, can you.
Speaker 2 (01:53:24):
So the next time you're enjoying a fronsty draft that
you of Iron City Beer in.
Speaker 1 (01:53:27):
Your favorite tavern, remember to take some of that great.
Speaker 2 (01:53:30):
Book plays your room with you. Just ask the man
for a half a case of Iron And when you're
when you ready to.
Speaker 1 (01:53:36):
Pour it on my friends, well you know what to do, hey,
You just pour on that.
Speaker 2 (01:53:40):
Iron all right. Now, let's win the dog. Oss that
right here, hurry Taco, let's buy a crowd roar, let's
get it down the hill. Hurt me up, George, let
it rip, Yes, they got buy it right here, donchel,
(01:54:00):
and it feels kept against. Get it out of here.
Willie Ball can't hit that one one in all here,
gets it back ground, bowling up the right side, over
the gast side more. He's up rowslaw one out. Well, now,
then we got another shot coming up here. Richie's this
(01:54:22):
he buys into a forest, play walked and found out
the first and the buck fans are roar, one out
and none on. In the ninetheen in games tied one award,
Bob Gibson works. Now the riches this. Here's the pitch
(01:54:43):
heart smash now out third. That one went by reach
of fast. He put him the balls in a strike.
(01:55:04):
Here's the only one outside for the ball, ball two
doors as fluent one. Gibson absolutely just working rapidly. His
inn two was an outfitter's going there, put their head
down and the batter doesn't dare take his eye off
(01:55:26):
what's going on? Here's the two and one from who
and Richie shuted his wing. They said, no, it's ball three,
three and one. Empires run a great pressure too in
a game such as this. In the closy moments of
the season, ball three and strike one, dessk Gibson inmber
(01:55:46):
the wind up in the three one pitch mile off
the slider and the count now fall three and two,
ball three and strike two out and then on here's
the fake gifts and gets him to break his bat
pops him in the shadow center size more drops back
(01:56:07):
in the air, two down, the same gain man. He
flied to center, single ride and bounced out the second
base short tied hit in the bottom of the nine,
two down, one to one. Nobody aboards for the buck
of both sides in with five hits, all artsen with
(01:56:28):
one air of the poor the Cardinals in with one.
The errors have not figured in the scoring of the game.
Here's now the owner the pitch singing watches outside ball
and right now, boy, that buck call and the seventh
inn he should have been so disputed and it wasn't
(01:56:49):
gave the Cardinals a chance to get the run. They
took advantage of it. Ball oh with two down, if
he just standing in seven singles, Tory was in there
and his Roys was set to delivery. Tory stepped out
the plate on Burt put his hand up. Rush stepped
off the mountain in the first place. Umber are called
the box ending seven for second Saggy a fly ball
center field Lord Bake McBride. Back's up near the warning track.
He's got it, and we're going to go to extra innings.
(01:57:10):
So it's straight up and free down at the end
of nine, light Up won the one. Hey fan, here's
an instant question, how did this cover a great tavern? Well, first,
you just try using years. When can hear lots of
last year, some big baseball talk.
Speaker 8 (01:57:23):
And the click of big mugs. You just might be
in the right place. Now, take a look around. You
should see some real labor, the people enjoying themselves.
Speaker 1 (01:57:30):
And then check over by the bar.
Speaker 2 (01:57:31):
You see a red and white tap. Mindle, that's an
Iron City draft beer tap. And if you see it,
where as you know for a second, ur in the
right place, because you'll always find Iron City beer or
sports minded guys gather. And there's a real good reason
for that.
Speaker 1 (01:57:45):
Iron City beer packs all the excitement and refreshment.
Speaker 2 (01:57:48):
You could ever wanted a beer.
Speaker 8 (01:57:49):
It's kind of rich for abus real beer flavor that
stands out, and brother, it's got fatastic going to satisfy
the biggest First you can work up.
Speaker 1 (01:57:57):
Looking for a great tavern. Look for Iron City.
Speaker 8 (01:57:59):
On left when you're heading wrong yet bad temping kit,
a couple of coal six packs and iron some bears,
hey man, haven't ready to point.
Speaker 1 (01:58:07):
On for here.
Speaker 2 (01:58:18):
Your baseball host is an Iron City beer.
Speaker 1 (01:58:20):
Well, we're going.
Speaker 2 (01:58:20):
Overtime, and for the parts, this is their eighteenth overtime
ball game.
Speaker 1 (01:58:25):
We have one to nine and lost State previously. Two
of those losses, you know, the.
Speaker 2 (01:58:29):
Cardinals in the opening game of the season, and the
last time they're in here. They'll beat this in twelve innings.
Speaker 1 (01:58:34):
Cradles have been a strong ball club in overtime. This
is their fifteenth ball game. They're eleven and three, and
we don't have to tell you the last couple of
ball games they've had them rather lengthy, one twenty five innings.
Heaven said, that doesn't happen again in seventeen.
Speaker 2 (01:58:50):
So maybe the hidden Vigora's going RLA. Jack Heideman leads
off the tenth inning against Royce. He pinshit in the
eighth inning, bounced out to the short plank Tibet twenty
four hundred fifty eight on hand, and nobody's leading high.
Speaker 1 (01:59:02):
Pop up to the short step or in shadow left
her Oliver drifting out there. We'll make the play. He'd
got it one out first ball, hitting Itaman flies out
to shadow center for you.
Speaker 2 (01:59:19):
Ron Hunt, you may remember him formally with the Mantreal Expos.
Speaker 1 (01:59:24):
Now with the Cardinals ten hitting.
Speaker 2 (01:59:27):
Hut on the season, batting it to two sixty two,
has driven in twenty six runs as they're on fifty seven.
Speaker 1 (01:59:34):
Walks, and they don't even have how many times he's
been hit by.
Speaker 2 (01:59:37):
Pitches, which shows you what that figure means the Cardinals,
but up in Montreal, that was an outstanding figure on
the score card every time you looked at the statistics.
Speaker 1 (01:59:46):
On this guy, Ronnie Hunt. But he's up there to
get on base. Fastball is in their strike one.
Speaker 2 (01:59:53):
He's right on top to plate. His elbows are right
over the strike zone. You can hit him in the
arm with a straight.
Speaker 1 (02:00:03):
Kidner' is a loosening Rabotsky. He'll be coming on fastball
in there stack too.
Speaker 2 (02:00:10):
No, Hunt is back to guarding the plate now. Fact
things like that from the time he gets up there,
chokes up on the beat.
Speaker 1 (02:00:17):
And let him almost to the trademarks. Matter of fact,
I think he saws off the bottom prior the bat
the you know two pitch, why I drive up the middle.
Speaker 2 (02:00:25):
Of the base it he's doing his thing. He's on
with a pinch hit single and the Bucks again looking
at ten shooters coming off the bench and getting the
job done. They're gonna have a pen runner for him.
It's gonna be Larry Hendron hr nd M Herndon.
Speaker 1 (02:00:40):
The youngster we haven't seen so far, and they've got
a messa m up for them. Larry Cringdon, he was
with Arkansas this year hit two eighty eight. Couldn't tell
you what he did in the stolen base department, but
he must be able to run, and he wouldn't be
throwing him in there. I don't get the tinge hit signal, Tigel,
(02:01:02):
and that brings up Lee Brock, who is zero for four.
Royce has chuck him out three times in the first
sixth and the eighth inn tag Game one one. We're
in the top of the tenth, Andy one down. He
throwed it first back in time is Trindon. Larry Herndon
(02:01:25):
running for Ronnie Hunt in the Cardinals tenth A look
at first fam the pitch fastball right there struck one.
Speaker 2 (02:01:36):
Royce. I don't believe you can pitch much better than
he has to night. He has ten strikeouts, and that's
a career high for him in the major leagues.
Speaker 1 (02:01:41):
Once before, at ten with the Cardinals in.
Speaker 2 (02:01:44):
Nineteen seventy one against the Philadelphia Phillies. He checks Herbdon
at first base hand to pitch the brock Chamming pitch
back to Sennate. He makes the play where tag the
runner throws out in tire at first. They have a
fourth play at second base on a runner Larry behind
him is.
Speaker 1 (02:02:01):
Unassisted by Senate.
Speaker 2 (02:02:02):
Rock is on at first on the fourth play, and
of course that sets up the excitement again with a
possible steal a second base. Rocket on in the third
inning when he forced the runner at second base, he
then tried to steal and he was nailed by sank
In for the third out of the innings.
Speaker 1 (02:02:20):
Sank In the last time in here with Demary pitching
nailed him two.
Speaker 2 (02:02:23):
Times in a row, and he's gotten them the last
three times he faces.
Speaker 1 (02:02:27):
What it before, we'll check it here. He's a threat
to go.
Speaker 2 (02:02:30):
You can bet on a thread of first.
Speaker 1 (02:02:31):
He's back in time.
Speaker 2 (02:02:34):
Tie game one one, and these two Baru clubs are
battling for the Eastern Division title. Pirates have won three
of them, the mess of one, with the other two
the only two teams that have captured him so far,
and division will.
Speaker 1 (02:02:46):
Play in sixteen nine. But look at first and.
Speaker 2 (02:02:49):
The long pause and the threat of first.
Speaker 1 (02:02:51):
He's back in time.
Speaker 2 (02:02:56):
Cardinals have a run on sixth sis, they committed one air.
The Firates on five hits, we committed to air. This
thing all boils down to a controversy of bock call.
When the Cardinals scored in a seventh Brock again going
back to first on.
Speaker 1 (02:03:09):
The throw by Jerry Detroit, knocks off the red stark Joe.
Speaker 2 (02:03:14):
Coleman beating Bill Lee five to three. The luck at Church,
the long pause.
Speaker 1 (02:03:27):
And Brock has a big lead. He's going time call
and no pitch.
Speaker 2 (02:03:31):
Chizemore had stepped out and Brock started to go. As
the Wrights came to the plate. He had a pig
jump at time, very seldom just Brock.
Speaker 1 (02:03:40):
Get the lead with both seed on the titan surface.
Usually has one foot in the.
Speaker 2 (02:03:44):
Sliding trip, the other on the Titan service. At this
time he had both of them on the tartan surface.
He has it again, a bigger lead. The luck at
Search and he goes over again.
Speaker 1 (02:03:53):
Drives him back in.
Speaker 2 (02:04:05):
Rock again with the lead not quite as much this time,
takes another step right for the long part.
Speaker 1 (02:04:10):
He's going to picture sung.
Speaker 6 (02:04:11):
Well note pits throw hundred second base to get go
over from rock him hit him on the leg, moves
into left field and Brock will come over to third.
The pictures in Kaiger low and sank gen had to
come up rowing and the throw hit low and bounced
off the leg of Brock.
Speaker 1 (02:04:24):
Camped in the left field.
Speaker 2 (02:04:26):
He comes over to third at the stall and base
for a little Brock still, he gets his job done, steals.
Speaker 1 (02:04:32):
A base and with that it's number seven hundred and forty.
Speaker 6 (02:04:35):
Three, tying him with Eddie Collins on the All Town list.
There's only one guy ahead of him, and that is
ty Co. I had a big jump that time and
a big lead off Royd. Sank Ginn didn't have much
of a shot at all.
Speaker 2 (02:04:46):
The troll as well with aftern eath or for strike
and the Cardinalists have the go ahead, run a third
bases to them, drive all on a left field. That'll
do it, Sky go jifting back.
Speaker 1 (02:04:55):
That'll be the third out of the inning. And every
chile is a cry. Now rounds on one hit, one air,
one left and right again.
Speaker 2 (02:05:03):
Work shout it in the tap as he did in
the ninth cnutes. We're going at the bottom of the tent.
Speaker 11 (02:05:07):
Were tired one one hello, very super dark hell allow
our Plymouth.
Speaker 4 (02:05:19):
Okay, ellis they's got a mind.
Speaker 2 (02:05:21):
To be some Martens news.
Speaker 9 (02:05:23):
You know who's never.
Speaker 4 (02:05:23):
Wanted talk on Now we are the more nine Americans stat.
Speaker 1 (02:05:28):
Telling talk cards come from Plymouth.

Speaker 1 (02:05:34):

the steelers got the court this morning.
Speaker 2 (02:05:49):
He cont stand to sell him all.
Speaker 4 (02:05:51):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (02:05:53):

Speaker 1 (02:05:58):
Come on in for a great and.
Speaker 2 (02:06:00):
I'm number one selling small car at your pirate land
price worth Plemouth dealer.
Speaker 1 (02:06:11):
The law on bib Gibson. He goes nine innings. He
gave up one run, a home run to have Oliver.
In the first inning.
Speaker 2 (02:06:16):
He shut the door sensine, allowing only five hits and
no hits. It off since dank Gee singled in the
fourth inning, you pass young. His pitching was he gets
no decision here tonight, but a very fine performance by Gibson.
Had only one striker and he got that when he
needed it. Against kirk Patrick was runners at thirst and
third in the fourth inning walks he allowed only one,
(02:06:37):
issuing a walk Desi in the fourth Inna Raboski, who
has been called in Matt Hungarian, has been an.
Speaker 1 (02:06:42):
Unbelievable release pitcher.
Speaker 2 (02:06:44):
He's allowed just one ironed run in his last twenty
five appearances. That's been thirty seven and the third inning
going back to July the fourteenth, to rather memorable date
for the Pirates this season. Since that time, Raboski has
won four, save six and has an herd run average
now that has gone from.
Speaker 1 (02:06:58):
Five to fourteen to two sixty three. In his last
eleven innings, he's only given up three hits and no
runs and he has stuck at fifteen batteries and the.
Speaker 2 (02:07:07):
Last evenings in eleven beginnings and release and tells you
he is a power pitcher and very definitely so. His
record sixtion one with ninety sixty shakeouts in seventy two innings.
He had his problems earlier in the year, as did
Dave Jesse, but he has turned things around.
Speaker 1 (02:07:27):
Kenny Marker is going to pinch hit for the Bucks.
Speaker 2 (02:07:36):
Maca pinch hitting fastball away ball once left hander Rabowski
against Kenny Marka.
Speaker 1 (02:07:45):
He got a base it, as Bob reminds us in.
Speaker 2 (02:07:49):
Montreal, and it didn't going farther than about eight feet
out in front of the plate. He's betting his out
swingings on a fastball.
Speaker 1 (02:07:55):
He didn't get us one bottle one straight.
Speaker 2 (02:07:57):
This fella led the Eastern League and hit him season
up at Tetford's mind. He's from Gateway High School, the
graduate of Gateway.
Speaker 1 (02:08:05):
And also the University of Pittsburgh. He's a catcher making
his first.
Speaker 2 (02:08:10):
Appearance here in Pittsburgh.
Speaker 1 (02:08:11):
The one line pitch file back out of play er
box isn't gonna finish you.
Speaker 2 (02:08:16):
He just leans on nothing but good high fastball. Account
of one and two.
Speaker 1 (02:08:37):
Tavarus is on deck, but possibly we'll be pinched for
we Catcher Teddy Simmons moving off the outside part of
the play to fastball is out there, but it's too high.
Two balls, two straight. Michael was a late addition to
(02:08:58):
the Hirch roster three forty five.
Speaker 2 (02:09:00):
That Tetrid mine twenty one of them twenty one home
runs and he drove in Hydrid drunk.
Speaker 1 (02:09:06):
It's pretty good speed too.
Speaker 2 (02:09:08):
He's sent shioning for head Kirk Tatchick. The pitch by
Raboski popped them up at the enfield, drifting back to
the second base Sizemore in the shallow saddle field.
Speaker 1 (02:09:17):
He's got it one down. Tavaris is odd deck and
apparently willed that here.
Speaker 2 (02:09:24):
The Pirates loosened Dave Justy and Raymond Hernandez.
Speaker 1 (02:09:31):
Tavaris almost got a big base hit. In the fourth inning.
Speaker 2 (02:09:33):
With two down, the second baseman Teddy Sizemore went to
deepen the right deal to get.
Speaker 1 (02:09:40):
The ball over his head. With runners at first and
third that time and two down. That was the beginning
for Bob Gibson Pirates. Heaven had a hit since them
fastball and there taken.
Speaker 2 (02:09:50):
By Tavares, strike one.
Speaker 1 (02:09:58):
The on one delivery. He is in there Aris strike two,
and he waste no time and he's throwing nothing to
pass balls, and he's come on here.
Speaker 2 (02:10:07):
He was born in Upland, California, five eleven hundred and
eighty outher there stocky built fastball, moved away in account
of one and two last year with Salsa Ane Saint
Louis Raboski with the Cardinals was two and four.
Speaker 1 (02:10:23):
With a good young live arm. He's showing it fastball
filed out of play down a ratio line.
Speaker 2 (02:10:30):
Hardy crowd witnessing a very turning ball game twenty four
and fifty eight, and nobody's getting up and walking away
from this one. Gibson and Race duel a very strong
game over the front nine now Leboski here in the
Senthani Raboski gets to sign Simmons moving out of him.
(02:10:53):
On one two pitch, filed again by Tabaris. It's out
of play. Cardinals have had six hits, the Firates have five,
the foe tied one one, and the.
Speaker 1 (02:11:06):
Controversy will call him at seventh inning.
Speaker 2 (02:11:10):
Sticks out more and more this game goes along.
Speaker 1 (02:11:14):
The one two pitch filed again by Tavaris. Got to
play down the first day side Dave Juffy throwing down
there and ended just watching the action right now, A
long time since Justin's been a ball game. About a
(02:11:37):
week ago, he was one two.
Speaker 2 (02:11:41):
Pitch, Whooper hit up to third base and the third
base and Kenny Rigs will make an easy.
Speaker 1 (02:11:45):
Play and let's cause ten seconds for station identification on
the fired base ball said the box and Race, sofs
are beating the Knights the Baltimore Orioles score a running
(02:12:07):
the seventh inning at Chase Stadium.
Speaker 2 (02:12:08):
The Yankees just out in the bottom of the seventh,
Baltimore leaves it one to nothing. Here's the pitch to
Jerry Royce saying, in the ballgame, he swings and missus
strike one.
Speaker 1 (02:12:25):
The wind up by the left hand of Rabatchi. It
butted bob back out of play.
Speaker 2 (02:12:30):
Royce, running down at first base, thought he had it
on the ground tomb place that came directly back into the.
Speaker 1 (02:12:35):
Crowd behind home Place. He counted nothing in two.
Speaker 2 (02:12:40):
Jerry pitched out of tough situations in the ninth inning
and again in the tamp They left the faces labored
in the ninth inn got off to a bad start
with a walk in a single whose Sizemore and Smith
struck out.
Speaker 1 (02:12:50):
Simmons got Tory to fly to right walk mcbriden got
reached the fly to center field. Were retired one one
with two downs. In the tenth pitch the race he
swings in missis strike three. How's the Bucks having trouble fighting?
Speaker 2 (02:13:03):
They sits here have not had one since the fourthening.
As Gibson and Rabaski, you have dominated things.
Speaker 1 (02:13:09):
And we'll go to the eleven thing. We're tied one one.
Speaker 2 (02:13:13):
Hey, if your car has been acting like a three
thousand pound weekly lately, maybe it's time that you brought
it into a Delko Data for a tune up. If
it needs one. Your Delco serviceman can be the job.
He'll let you know what it will cost to have
your engine running fine again. His check compression, adjust ignition, timing,
and carburetion. Another thing, if new parts are needed, you'll
get the best from a Delco man. Delco run the
(02:13:35):
ignition and electrical components, Delco carberator parts and Delko wires
and cables. So if you're planning a vacation, plan on
running a Delco serviceman check your car. Let him check
it over before you go. The more you know, the
more you'll want. Delco Delco Tune Up service available at

Hill Road in the South Hills. Now in the eleventh
(02:14:19):
inning and Bobby Robertson is on to do the first
base short playing at first base now in place of
Teddy Kirkpatrick, who was sited for by Maka. And here
in the Cardinal eleventh inning, Royce pitches to Smith Simmons
and Tory parts took a lead of one or nothing
back in the second inning, went Over hit a home
(02:14:39):
run and then with two down, swimming single. In the
seventh and there came the big play. With Tory ready
to bat and Royce ready to pitch, Tory stepped out
and play down fire. We saw it on the replay,
put his hand up and as he stepped out, roy
stepped off the mound. The first base on Fairer called
a buck that allowed Simmons to go to second, and
then Tory hit a double down and left the Atlanta
(02:15:01):
side out. Simmons could not escored from first base on
that hip, but he was able to score from second.
And for the life of me, I actor can't understand
that rule the way they exercised Smith now too enough
(02:15:21):
beat the foul off third two balls in a strike.
Same thing happened against the Cardinals when Sizemore stepped out
and Brick was stealing in the tenth inning, and they
called time. No pitch made and they brought Brock back
bouncer the third. Heavener's up behind third, those low held
(02:15:42):
by Robertson, great slave by Bobby Robertson on the low
throwing of the dirt. One out, that'll bring up Simmons.
He walked, struck out, single scored, and struck out batting
a right handed hair against the left hand pitching Jerry Roy.
(02:16:04):
We're in the eleventh inning. The Cardinals on this streak
have played one twenty five or one seventeen inning. Now
they're in the eleventh. To this one pitch to Simmons,
the curve high ball, one twenty one hundred and fifty eight.
Hanging there, Mary Edgely, wherever you are, Hi Poppy, the
(02:16:25):
shallow center Oliver coming up two out, couldn't help singing
to Mary edguy last night when the Buffalo came behind
and win the game against Oakland, watching that game on
TV with a whale of a football game. That stadium,
Rich Stadium is right in her backyard, and I meant
(02:16:45):
she was wall the wall with automobiles and people didgers
go tonight with raw gripping for Houston two down to
Tory double and Ford Batch driving in the run that
tied up the game. Back in the seventh inning, bouncing
George Third, heaving her over backhands of all really and
(02:17:06):
throws him out. A great play by Heaven. I have
the crabs going a while, raff fan free down and
we go down at the bottom of the eleventh inning
and it's tied up one to one.
Speaker 1 (02:17:20):
Ball drive.
Speaker 2 (02:17:25):
Across the Kushar may continue the cross examination of the witness.
Thank you you're own arm.
Speaker 1 (02:17:31):
Will the witness?
Speaker 2 (02:17:31):
Well?
Speaker 1 (02:17:32):
State is title for the court? Is I am a
teller at Union National Bank? Ah? Killer, wonderful, wonderful? Would
you kindly tell the court? Does Union National Bank offer
premiums to its customers pots and pans.
Speaker 10 (02:17:45):
And the like?
Speaker 1 (02:17:46):
Oh no, we have a policy against that sort of thing, sir,
you mean no silverwell, no sir, no cook quote, no sir,
no meat thermometer, no sir, nothing nothing. How is it, then,
that Union National Bank seems to be so successful. I
like to think it's because we're still a bank, still
a bank, after one hundred and seventeen years. There we're
still a bank, not even a little bonbon dish, not
(02:18:08):
even a little spot bun International, still a bank.
Speaker 2 (02:18:13):
And the member of EMPTNAC well in the eleven innings,
then at Hebner and Oliver will go at it against
Alan Orvowski, Bob Gibson, pitch the Mike Giberson nine any
ball game. And I want to say one thing. The
(02:18:34):
home run now Oliver head off Gibson, that Oliver takes
a pitch, it would have been almost under the plate
was a ball, and it's just the type of pitch
it Normally wouldn't expect the home run to be struck
off in any expect of imagination. And Oliver gave it
a nine iron shot and got it up in there
for a homer and his ninth of the year. Both
(02:18:56):
sides have scored from play. Is it only he wouldn't
expect to see is another example. He wouldn't expect see
that home enough that face at Gibbe throw in there
because it was way down underneath his knees. And with
two out, Simmons singles, and then came a controversial play
and when Tory backed out on Royce, which I give
Tory cut it for doing. I think he's that smart.
(02:19:17):
Just as Royce would set to deliver, he backed out
on him, and Roych broke his delivery and they called
a buck even though they played them first started to
put his hand up to call time. That's a bad rule.
It's legislated against too many ball clubs sentered a swing
strike one romoansquiz fastball. Whip them through there, man, if
you just tune again, I'll tell you. Brock had a
(02:19:38):
chance to steal in the tending and Royce delivered him.
They called time as he delivered in Sizemore steps. I
took the stolen base right away from Brock, foule down
the right line that it Stolenlinger was nothing with Sizemore
steps out, and they called time while Royce was in
the act of delivering. So what's the sense of having
that rule. The rider must stay in there if he
(02:20:01):
wants to get out when the man delivers. It's whatever
the pitch is, whether you like it or not. I'm
going to have to have a long chocolate these umpires
and find out why that rule is on the books
and why of the enforces the way they do. Here's
they owe two out of Senate Rabaski delivers curve high
(02:20:21):
slapped this curve outside that time three six, nine, ten
in a row have been retired. We haven't had a
base hit since steaneans single about e back and the forth. Anyway,
we have had a base runner on an air and
that's all. Otherwise it would have been just up and
down like a metronome. One ball, t strike pitch Rabaski
(02:20:45):
six and one on the ear, one and two the
Senate high ball to if you take away that error
and they would have retired. Let's see two, five, eight, eleven, fourteen, seventeen,
twenty one in a row since the single by the
same again back in the fourth inning, key ball t
(02:21:07):
strike pitch file back by.
Speaker 1 (02:21:09):
A Senate.
Speaker 2 (02:21:14):
Renny Tonight is over four pop the short flight the
right bounced out, the third bounded out the second. Gibson
went nine for one run and five hits. Magnificent Bob Gibson.
Royce's match to him. Here is the two to two
delivery foul away by Stenatet Raboski pumping BD. Senate's had
(02:21:44):
one ball out of the infield, a fly ball right
back in the third. Raboski on the sign is ready,
nods his head and here comes the two and two
Senate fouls. Another one out of play Keviner and Oliver
to follow. Here we're in the bottom and half of
the eleventh innings. Night up one to one. Ex spinning
(02:22:07):
ball games for the Cardinals are not strange things to them,
particularly on this last big splurge. There they are eleven
and three, by the way, an ex spinning ball game
there tween and there's twenty nine, twenty two and one
run ball games. That's one of the reasons why there's
a great two two pitch file away again. Oh, those
(02:22:30):
statistics are most impressive. Eleven and three and extra innings,
twenty nine, twenty two and one run ball games, thirteen
and eighty shutouts, six one and three in double metters.
Huh hump. Cardinals are for real key balls. Two strikes
here the Stenate another foul back, and he's back in
(02:22:53):
Raboskie pump. Now he's ready battling them up there, ram
I skiering on and he'll turn around and shaking himself up.
They call him the mad Hungarian. Takes a couple of
deep breaths, strides the mound ball to strike to the
(02:23:18):
Senate leading off him. He leveth the pitch curve ball
popped him up on a change up in the shadow center,
going back Sizemore hide him and coming on bride. The
ball is caught by size more in between McBride and
hid him. Threw him a change up and he popped
him in the shadow center. One out to heaven Her.
One hit him for at the bats, he got a
boot in the right field. Off boot give he back
(02:23:40):
in the third hit it fought off the end of
the bat, just booking in the right. Now Raboski halfway
between the mounds and second base, stirring out in the
center field. This is where he shakes himself up, taking
a deep breath as Uh turned and said something to
Joe Torre. He's every inch into this ball game, and
(02:24:01):
Heavener are awaiting. They're going to play now straight away
and not infield shift him. Curve is outside ball on
nightam in the shortstop is to the third bay side
of second and barely so. Sizemore's back a little bit
in shallow right and Tory guards the line deep at
first the right field of Regismith deep near the warning track.
The gap the left center in the outfield on the
(02:24:22):
line at third is reachs the big hole off the
left side of the diamond to Heavener. Here's the one
all curve ball slapt foul off the left side out
of play one and one. One ball, one strike is
the count to score Tide one and one. Heavener's got
a gap off the left side of the diamond. Is unbelievable.
(02:24:42):
He can hit a dribbler up there and get it
through because Hightaiman's way over by a second and reaches
down the line. Go and steady with that file line
at third, one out and then on. In the eleventh innings,
score Tide one to one. The Heaveners the batter Raboski
stick someone on the ear. The left hander now to
one one pitch and Heavener are swinging on a strike too,
(02:25:12):
had all over the on deck. Better ball one and
strike two and the pitch Kevenor foul Blair has just
honored for Baltimore in the eighth inning of two on
his seventeenth of the year. They now lead the Yankees
(02:25:33):
for and I think into the bottom of the eighth
at New York. In the game at Baltimore, they gotta
win one ball and two strike to Helvener. Yeah, Yankees
on top in the American League East. Current ball hit
down toward first change up Tory has it unassisted to
(02:25:56):
Raboski's last two outs have been on change up. Now,
here's add Oliver, who's a golf shot home run off.
Gibson got the only run in back in the first inning,
and I mean a golf shot. Now, Raboski out psaking
himself up again, stands half way between the mountain and
(02:26:20):
second base, turns and says something to Joe Tory must
be a ritually goes through because he points right out
his first basement. The pitch two Oliver started the swing,
took a curve away ball on. He goes out, stands
between first and second, takes a few deep breath, clears
out in the center field section, turns around, comes to
the mountain, points right to his first basement. I've been
(02:26:42):
doing that since he's come on in meat and curve
low ball two to an old Oliver, and Roboski does
not like the call. Then a couple of calls, one
against Gibson and one against Royce that both pitchers though
they head over the plate for strikes. Now Raboski's out
between first base or second base of the pitcher's mount
Let's see if he comes back and points to Tory.
(02:27:05):
This time he does not ball two and no strikes.
You must talk to himself and sack himself up, two
down and on and eleventh to pitch Oliver inside, do
him ball three if basketball tailed up and in on deck.
Willie Stagel Rabosque again in between the pitcher's mount and
(02:27:29):
second cogitat him, puts the ball in the mid, comes
out on the mound and gets his sign from Simmons.
Here comes the three and oh, and he throws a
strike right down the pipe, Oliver taking all away three
and one. That goes Rabosque again between the mount and
(02:27:53):
second base, and the fans are on him about it. Listen,
he's doing his thing, and he's pitcher. Must be good
what he's doing. He's six and one, three volves and
a strike to Oliver swinging and he blew the fastball
by him. Four count three and two, and there goes
Sarbowski out between the mountain second base again. Listen to
(02:28:15):
the fans, what we ought to do now, start stepping
out on him just as he's set to deliver, Like
Henry hearing it one time about fifteen times in a
row to Bob Dell, step out on him, let him
resack himself. Here comes to pay off pitch to three
(02:28:36):
and two. Oliver files back and twirls around and almost
goes to the ground. Three and two. There goes Starbowski
out between the mountain second base again. Come on now,
when he gets ready to pitch, step out on him.
Just do it about five times in a row on him.
(02:28:57):
Just get in there and step out on him. Drive
him up a wall. All three and strike two. Raboski. Headshake, no, now, headshake, Yes,
here comes the three and two fowl back. Let's see
if he goes out between firt home plate and feather
pitches mountain second again. There he goes Paul three and
(02:29:33):
strike two. Ruboski ready and the three two pitch he
walked him. They call that Oliver for swinging on it.
And he doesn't believe it. That pitch was way up inside,
but they said he swung on it and you can't argue,
and that will retire the side. That'll be just a
(02:29:55):
third strikeout tonight. And it's three up and three down.
At the end of eleven in way, it's tied up
one one. Oh, I'm James Garner.
Speaker 12 (02:30:06):
Look at that highway, hundreds of cars with only one
person in them, and we're in the middle of an
energy crisis. All the plans the cities and states come
up with can't solve it alone. A good way to
beat the gas short it is the share a car
with friends at least if you get stuck, so you've
got someone to play cards with.
Speaker 2 (02:30:27):
And when you're driving, please drive under fifty five. You
know we've squandered from thirty to.
Speaker 1 (02:30:33):
Forty of our fuel energy and we just can't afford
it anymore.
Speaker 2 (02:30:38):
If we all help, we'll really be helping ourselves. And
if you don't, there may not be enough gas for
any of them.
Speaker 5 (02:30:45):
This message from the Federal Energy Office and the Advertising Council.
Speaker 2 (02:31:05):
Now us you'll like the football game as the nine
I means the Cardinals on this trip at sixty five
innings and five games coming into this and and year
over time again.
Speaker 1 (02:31:14):
Into the twist and the plans here being treated to.
Speaker 2 (02:31:16):
A great pitching this way Tonight Royce, Gibson and Mara
A Bostan. In the twelfth inning, Jerry goes against McBride
reads hitament.
Speaker 1 (02:31:25):
McBride has a single on a lock in four appearances.
He has one for three on the night pitch up
Eide Wall one. Cardinals have been tacking away a bit
at Royce and late innings here, but he's done the
job in particularly in the ninetheen tenth Andy fastball down
low two balls in those strikes catakno.
Speaker 2 (02:31:55):
The pitch by Royce, high pop up off the left
side Tavaris wanted in file territory down the left field line.
Speaker 1 (02:32:02):
He makes the grab one dent. A run of a
ball game and the way it should be. When two
walk clubs outing for the National League.
Speaker 2 (02:32:10):
Eastern Division Championship mead head to head the Fires in
the card number.
Speaker 1 (02:32:15):
We're tied one one into the twelfth Ni Kenny Reeves
had a chance to Wonders in the ninth inning with
the bases loaded.
Speaker 2 (02:32:22):
Rice got him to fly to center field, change curve.
Speaker 1 (02:32:26):
And it's on the corner taking strike lunch. You might
have slowed up that time with a fast fall and
just drifted away, but it was an off speed pitch.
It got him lucky.
Speaker 2 (02:32:40):
Line up in the pitch by a race another change
up in a tip file down the right deal line.
It's out of slay.
Speaker 1 (02:32:45):
Strike two reached out for four.
Speaker 2 (02:32:50):
Baltimore leading New York Jim Palmer on a shutout, leading
four to nothing. There unto the bottom of the ninth thing,
the Orioles two and a half back at the start
of today activity. The Yo two picks the Reeks inside
sent him spinning one ball in two strake, which wasn't
that close.
Speaker 1 (02:33:07):
But Reech started to make a swing at the ball
and he had to give away, and Jeff went down.
Speaker 2 (02:33:12):
Wasn't that far inside on one ball, two strikes, the
wine up by Jerry and the pitch underway file back
out of play.
Speaker 1 (02:33:22):
And I think Jack Buckster Mike Shannon might have a souven.
Speaker 2 (02:33:25):
Air up about it. Little Brock stole a base here
in the tenth inning, and that was number.
Speaker 1 (02:33:32):
Seven forty two of his major league career one hundred.
Speaker 2 (02:33:35):
NAT on the air.
Speaker 1 (02:33:36):
He had been thrown out earlier by Manny Sankians.
Speaker 2 (02:33:39):
The one two pitch wine drive right field and coming
on this still coming, he's gonna get it too down.
Speaker 1 (02:33:49):
My light.
Speaker 2 (02:33:49):
Pitching has been so dominant right from the straight of
this ball game. The home run by Hal Oliver in
the first inning after two rut that's the only run
we got, and the Cardinals running the seventh and any
kind of controversial one two or Apps Simmons single. He
moved to second base as a home plate on fire
call time as Tory stepped out the first base on
fire call the block on a race as he potted
(02:34:10):
his hands before stepping off the rubber. He moved into
second and entire double.
Speaker 1 (02:34:13):
Down the lefty line. That's been the scoring Heightaman takes
the pitch at the knees track once he came out
of the ball game as a.
Speaker 2 (02:34:19):
Pinch hitter in the eighth inning for Mike Tyson. He's
gone over to bouncing to shorten this eight eighth inning,
flying to.
Speaker 1 (02:34:25):
Center in the tent.
Speaker 2 (02:34:29):
Tash four one one twelfth two down swinging and a
miss strike two fit fastball by Jerry. He got his
ten strike out in the ninth inning. That's the most
he's had in the nine inning ballgame in his major
league career.
Speaker 1 (02:34:43):
Second time he's done it carried back in nineteen seventy.
Speaker 2 (02:34:45):
One against the Philadelphia Silties, but the most on a
Pirate uniform for Jerry.
Speaker 1 (02:34:52):
The O two pitch to Heidaman.
Speaker 2 (02:34:54):
Down low, one ball in two straights.
Speaker 1 (02:35:06):
The pitch underway Wine drive right up the middle pass Royd.
It's on a the center.
Speaker 2 (02:35:10):
THEO for a pace hi no heighthman on a one
two pitch shoots one up the middle, and Alan Raboski
is going to stay in the ballgame. They're gonna go
with him.
Speaker 1 (02:35:20):
Shows you what they think of his apility as a pitcher,
not so much as a hitter. I'm sure we'll check
him as a hitter. Raboski not a bad hitter, eater,
he said, three hits and eight times at bat batting
is three seventy five. He's driven in two runs.
Speaker 2 (02:35:35):
So this guy is a good hitter too.
Speaker 1 (02:35:38):
He's been at bat eight times and he's struck out
only twice. Alan Raboski not a bad hitter. He's the
right handed batter. Tie game one one, two outs, single
by Hightaiman.
Speaker 2 (02:35:53):
He's at first, the pitch underway and Rabosky swings on
a curve and listens struck one. Tommy Fryar checks the
buck bat boy heading down to the bullpen to get
a message. Door take one down there.
Speaker 1 (02:36:05):
There's a lot of scurrion in the fired bullpen, but
nobody has come on so far. Royce Go in the
full distance.
Speaker 2 (02:36:13):
Fide him at first.
Speaker 1 (02:36:15):
The on one delivery curve is just outside one ball
one strike. Jerry taking a lot of time here looking
for a sign, finally gets it, but pitch underway, a pie,
(02:36:38):
two balls and a shrike. Crowd getting a bit restless.
Speaker 2 (02:36:42):
Here the on deck batter, the Loue Brock Cardinals team
batting average of two sixty six pirates at two seventy seven.
The two one pitch outside ball three.
Speaker 1 (02:36:59):
Now he's falling me hide on his pitching opponents, Elen Raboski.
Speaker 2 (02:37:07):
With hide him in at first base. Then he get
on after two round with a single right up the middle.
Tidmo is trying to do something.
Speaker 1 (02:37:14):
Like he did in the seventh and see if Royce
can come back with a strength. He did right at
the knees taken by Rabaski. Now the count is full
three into that means that hide him in at first base.
He'll be going on the pitch.
Speaker 2 (02:37:27):
Bobby Robertson playing there, will now move off the bag
of it. Bock's lintening, Dave Josey.
Speaker 1 (02:37:35):
Royce stepping off the man Paula Rabaski and getting the.
Speaker 2 (02:37:40):
Applause of the fans.
Speaker 1 (02:37:44):
Here's a three two pits. The runner's going to ball
us half the short stuff. Tavaris has to hurry throws.
He just got him growl bunk play.
Speaker 6 (02:37:52):
Rabaski runs very well, and Tavas just got him at
first base, and the slow he hits pall the shortstuffs
now runs on one hits in one left in Royce
the twelve innings, it's given the Cardinals one run and.
Speaker 2 (02:38:05):
We go into the part of the twelve tied it
one once. You know, the old gunner here has been
doing a pirate play by play for Iron City now
for eighteen years. Great years. Josh's filled with exciting moments,
great players, and a lot of fine, fine fans. You know,
something I've learned over the years is that baseball fans
know their beer and they like it. That's why they've
(02:38:25):
helped make Iron City Beer the number one beer around
here year after year.
Speaker 1 (02:38:30):
Of course, it's tough to put your finger on any
one reason, but maybe it's because Iron.
Speaker 2 (02:38:35):
City is made with Boar and Giddings and all those
ingdients are the very best a good beer out to have.
The one who's start into a tall, frosty glass of
Iron City beer, you know it's an Iron City because
you can't miss that rich, plural flavor, that lively tang,
that beautiful creamy head, that real honesty goodness beer taste.
Speaker 1 (02:38:53):
You take it from the gunner.
Speaker 2 (02:38:54):
If you want to think you're first into the best
beer around here, you've got to get the number one
beer iron puny, Yes, my friend, pour on the iron.
Speaker 1 (02:39:10):
The twawp inning for the fights. Where at the meat
of the order?
Speaker 2 (02:39:12):
Which stargus this can Sangie the four or five and
six batter to come up in this wall, fimmy. Alan
Arbaki has been taking a lot.
Speaker 1 (02:39:19):
Of time between rick He's had a bit of meditation.
He goes back behind him out and talks himself to
get himself sacked up. Bob had a pretty good idea.
Speaker 2 (02:39:26):
Well, I know, I timed him three times for thirty
three seconds, and that's against the rule. With nobody on bash,
you're supposed to deliver every twenty seconds. Nelly, I want
to tie him again. Sister's melody down there is eighty
ninety two years young has been rooting for the Buccoes
and all and hopefully we can get gone. But I
want to tell you, Nelly, the rule says you're supposed
to pitch with nobody on base twenty seconds. Isn't that correct?
(02:39:48):
He's been going thirty thirty three seconds. The clean pitches
by going out and packing himself up, and I have
not yet understood why we don't step out on him
every time he does it. And when he's ready to
pitch forward, get the rosin bag, settle around out there
for a few minutes like you saw, and I saw
Henry here and do the bab bill one day in Atlanta,
trying of the umpire is gonna get mad as they
get in the hit and say, well, when you tell
that donkey to pitch our hit, I mean that's the
(02:40:10):
way I do it. I wouldn't let him sick me
out of that thing.
Speaker 1 (02:40:14):
Yeah, a little bit of gamesmanship, he's going, that's a
pretty good point to the pirates. He's gotta pack himself
up to get up there, might as well take as
much time. And he's midway between them mount and second
base now his back is turned to the plate and
he's looking out forward center field and getting his stocks together,
rubbing up a ball stargel he did off. He's had
a single in Ford. That's that game in the first Inny.
Speaker 2 (02:40:35):
What do you think told me? Now? What do you
think he means when he points over the sorry at
first base? After he does all that, We got to
find out what that means I haven't noticed it that much,
but if he does it every time, I don't know,
Mike be.
Speaker 1 (02:40:45):
A super person. Scragele slings and messas stack one. I
was given a rather lengthy letter Bud Gentleman, who rated
me for calling Tony tattors and being circumstiis because making
sign of the cross on his bet, but THEE O
orangeitch it is taken by well, he's stuck to He
tried to.
Speaker 2 (02:41:05):
Check the swing and one around I believe, but it
was still a strake that it may not be a superstition,
probably religious belief, but not unless he does it continually.
Speaker 1 (02:41:14):
I'm sure he's looking for a bashi.
Speaker 2 (02:41:18):
The O two fish man, it.
Speaker 1 (02:41:20):
Thinks I had what was it a foul tip for
what I believe it was a check swing and a
foul ball off the batter, Star jem and acount of.
Speaker 2 (02:41:27):
One two you're talking about when Tony Tater holds the
bat down, blesses himself, kisses the bat, and well he's
offering up a prayer. I asked him about the one.
How many do his best and nobody get hurt? Not
ask him for the base? D he do his best?
Speaker 1 (02:41:41):
The O two fish rolling away one ball in two
strake touch a code ball in a remote is and
just about chilling at fish already did give Heavener a
very good breaking drop, got him.
Speaker 2 (02:41:50):
To bounce up.
Speaker 9 (02:41:54):
But his best pitch, without a doubt is a fastball,
and he h Byali or shut out Hellward.
Speaker 1 (02:41:59):
Could I think Palmer beating metage. It's proud at.
Speaker 9 (02:42:02):
Chow four four thousand, the line tient past by Labosky.
He stuck him out, scene past bad world right by him.
That's a FoST light at the food.
Speaker 1 (02:42:12):
By Labowski will bring up, which he says for a
hippo team.
Speaker 2 (02:42:18):
Three bats.
Speaker 1 (02:42:23):
The last base run of the Poli Chad in the
seventh inning on air on second baseman ten size one.
Speaker 2 (02:42:35):
Leboski.
Speaker 9 (02:42:35):
It's on top of nins. Time not taking quite as
much time, shakes up the signs from Teph Simmons once
another one gets the lige up.
Speaker 2 (02:42:43):
From the Sistis Fisk. He's in the dirt ball one.
The line's run at Baltimore, New York Game three four runs,
seven hits and no airs with Baltimore no run, seven
hits and no airs from New York. Palmer's seven point
He's lost twelve times George met its washed it his
record eighteen and fourteen.
Speaker 1 (02:43:00):
They've put a good crowd to chase at him twenty
three thousand, seven and eighty four.
Speaker 2 (02:43:05):
The one oh pitcher Richie's swinging a missis and he
chased the fastball up a bit high, struck one one
ball in one straight. This guy is simply just overpowering
the Pirates for one one pitch fastball, moved away ball two.
(02:43:32):
Ravoski again turns his back to the plate, and this
wants to do the.
Speaker 1 (02:43:36):
Thing you were talking about five. If you're gonna walk back,
and if Raboski wants to take.
Speaker 2 (02:43:40):
Some time, he'll take some absolutely right, just to make
him sit out there and sweat like he's making us.
So I got to give her Leboski credit.
Speaker 1 (02:43:47):
He's a knock on.
Speaker 2 (02:43:48):
Fine competitor, and he can get away with doing what
he's doing. And we don't try to to track him
a little bit with our own thing. Why then we're
falling right into his trap on time of which he's
a during good picture.
Speaker 1 (02:44:01):
He got the credentials to prove that six and one
with nine seeds, but two.
Speaker 2 (02:44:06):
One pitch does this all out of play down the
right field line. A lot of contrast in it between
the way Bob Gibson works. He doesn't give you enough
time to even get a thirty second commercial in between
these Old Gibby goes right in there and nail ship.
I kind of like his kind of pitch, and I'll
be honest with.
Speaker 1 (02:44:23):
You, he gets them over in less than two hours.
This one well over two hours, but wor him with
a twelfth minute. This taps weekly in the shortstop, tight
him and got him in first place and never retires it.
Two down. Now the batter will be Nanny Saggy, and
he singled in the fourth inning. That's the last hit
he had of card. Nelson had had only one base
(02:44:46):
runner since.
Speaker 2 (02:44:47):
Then, on an air by second baseman Teddy Sizemore in
the seventh inning with the shortstop rather.
Speaker 1 (02:44:54):
Tasting me the air, not the second bass. Sank In
usually hits well against left me And is that this
guy is something else the way he's pumping the ball
basketball away ball one. Got another one of these coming tomorrow.
Jim Hooker and Jim Rolin McLaughlin going game time tomorrow,
(02:45:21):
seven thirty five.
Speaker 2 (02:45:22):
Want oh pitch swinging on his face, thinking and strike
one man. He went right around and fell down on
that swing.
Speaker 1 (02:45:36):
Throw that hard. I don't think you have to meditate
too long. It's there. It's gonnap there and throw the
one long pitch basketball filed back out of play. The
fear a finesser.
Speaker 2 (02:45:47):
You gotta do a lot of meditation.
Speaker 1 (02:45:49):
The longer you hold the ball, the longer things ain't
gonna happen to you. This guy, you didn't have to
do much thinking that. I don't think that he's back again,
off the rubber, halfway.
Speaker 2 (02:45:59):
Between the mound and second base, rubbing it up, taking
a deep breath, repeating whatever he says there.
Speaker 1 (02:46:05):
So I will throw a stick tag game one, one,
two down, twelve, setting the pitch shin. It is a
hard shot.
Speaker 2 (02:46:16):
The second base size more an easy player at first.
That'll retire the fires get down an order into twelfth.
Speaker 1 (02:46:21):
Then we're going into the thirteenth inning and we're still
tied one one. Well, friends, there's just not that much
of this whole summer left.
Speaker 2 (02:46:28):
And if you've been promising yourself a few more cookouts
before the leaves turn brown, now is the time to
start getting things ready. You have the wife to pick
up those Hamburgers, And why don't you drive on down
to your neighborhood distributor and order a case or two
of Iron City Beer in twelve round three tunable bottles. Now,
the next time the spirit Mugia will roll out the
charcoal grill and set up a color with some ice
cold iron. Now there's a picture of summer time living,
(02:46:50):
sitting outside with a big charcoal grill, hamburger cook to perfection,
and a cold cold bottle of Iron City Beer. And
you know, if you've got an iron by your side,
you've got a bear that's perfect for such facing. It's
trying to deliver a taste so full and rich, your
hamburger will probably even taste better because Iron City and
the beer. You can really think your taste Bud didn't listen.
(02:47:11):
There isn't much sum and left he brought those took outs.
Speaker 1 (02:47:13):
Well, you can in order a case.
Speaker 2 (02:47:15):
Or two of Iron City Beer so you'll have enough
Iron on end Iron City Beer when you're any ready
to point on or I'm iron all right, it'll be
brocksize Forlorn Smith will lead it off in the Cardinals thirteenth,
and the Royce is still pitching. He has allowed seven
(02:47:37):
basets capitalizing this ball game, and the first inning, with
two down, Oliver hit a ball off his shoe traps
for a home run. He just gave it a golf
swing and a ball that would have been ball away
underneath the strike zone. And you don't look for home
runs off that one. That's the only legitimate type it
we got all night off Bob Gibson. He just blew
us out of there. And since that time single by
(02:47:59):
saying ye, and then the seventh innings something to live
in my mind a long time. And I'm gonna have
to talk to the umpires about this one, because this
absolutely baffles me. With Simmons, the first, I have to
give Tory cudit for stepping out just as Rush was
set to Fitch and they called the bock arms on.
Jerry Brock slams it out in the left center out
(02:48:22):
in the left for the base set coming up for
it as Stradule. So Brock is on well anyhow, and
they called the back as the play Empire started to
put his hand up in the air that time was called.
They didn't do anything to keep with the buck and
Simmons therefore got the second inventry hit a hunder down
the left the line for the double that tied up
(02:48:45):
the ball game. And there's no way Simmons would have
scored from first base. I'll tell you that on the
double by Tory, and then McBride fowled out. Well, as
it turns out, they got the benefit of that call.
Here's size More. Who's Rock's got a big lead and
Royce guising back. Now, Sizemore did the same thing when
(02:49:08):
Royce was ready to pitch. Sizemore stepped out when Brock
was running and the time was called. This is Royce pitched,
but they said it was no pitch and it took
a stolen base away from Brock. He had it stolen clearly.
He has one hundred and eight on the year. Now
another throw over the first well. Milwaukee beats Cleveland three
(02:49:28):
to two, one Bizarro up for Bucks, one on and
none out Size More of the better. No pitch has
been made to him yet. Brock's got a big lead
and he gets backed just in time. He's way outside
(02:49:49):
this flighting pit on Royce. Royce has got a funny
kick and Brock can take a much larger lead. He's
been throwing out once tonight he's also stolen one. Now
he's outside the He's a good fifteen feet off the bag.
Royce goes over there again. Well, some guys have their
way of doing it. Royce is throwing them over demery
against Broc just kept holding the ball, wouldn't do anything
(02:50:11):
but hold it until Brock funny get tired of hanging
out there or was He got a big lead and
there's another throw the first he is way outside that
flighting pitch. When he gets out there on his lead,
he's a good twelve to fifteen feet from first base.
They have yet to throw a pitch to the place.
(02:50:33):
There's that big lead again. Royce goes back to first
and Rock just casually walks back in. I've never seen
Brock take such a lead as this. He's going. They
pitch out. It's too high and Rock has a stolen base.
(02:50:55):
The pitch, howe, was too high in the air for
saying gein. They're do anything with it in time to
try to throw him out. That's stolen base one on nine.
He's now number two on the all time stolen based list.
Speaker 1 (02:51:12):
Player place.
Speaker 2 (02:51:14):
He now has past Eddie Columns all time stolen bases
seven hundred and forty four comps all time record of
eight ninety two. Not in jeopardy year this year, Well
Sizemore hasn't seen a pitch yet. Now they're in a
position where they can bunn him over or hit the
(02:51:35):
ball off the right side. Movie Mobile. There's the bunch
and he may get a base set as we hurry,
they just do. Royce flits it quickly to Ibby Robertson
on the sacrifice. Brock has come to third, one to three.
On the out, it'll bring up Reggie Smith, who's had
(02:51:56):
one hit in five at bats. That was back in
the ninth inning. Now we got to bring me in
Fiel up to this guy this whole game. And I
don't care how you say. It turns on the seventh
in he allowing a man to step out when the
pitcher was in the act they're gonna walk. Smith was
(02:52:17):
in the act of delivering, and when he stepped out,
our pitcher did the one thing he shouldn't have done.
Miss Royce stepped off the mound. But that is so
unfair because the rule clearly favors the batter the way
they interpret it, he just clearly favors about it. There's
no defense whatsoever. For the pitchers have to hold the
ball and pitch it think. I think Bob Gibson was
(02:52:40):
talking about that.
Speaker 1 (02:52:41):
He said, any time batter's running the problems and make
some legislation against pictures, they lower them ound and they
shortened strike going. And I tell you, pictures, you can't
put your hand in your mind.
Speaker 2 (02:52:50):
You have to get off the rubber. You get so
many things to think of out there.
Speaker 1 (02:52:53):
And really a better could do anything he wants to
do up the play. He doesn't have to do anything
at all.
Speaker 2 (02:53:00):
I really agree with you on that.
Speaker 1 (02:53:02):
I think every time the game legislates something, it's always
something to stop a pitcher from doing anything that he
does well.
Speaker 2 (02:53:10):
It sure is, and that just doesn't seem right now.
Pitcher's got enough troubles. It's not an easy game. I'll
tell you.
Speaker 1 (02:53:17):
You get out there and try to throw from sixty
feighty six inches and just try to throw strakes. So
it's bad enough. Then when you try to play with
corners and you got to pitch under pressure and not
get pitches where they can handle them, it's quite an ard.
It's goal to is.
Speaker 2 (02:53:30):
Well. Roysiu had to bear it down back in the
ninth in head runners at first and second and none out,
and he did a job. He got him out of
there without a run scoring. Now he's got runners at
first and third and one out in the thirteenth inning,
and Simmons a better with that won it in foard
bat scored the only run flat ball deep left field.
So Dodge will get it all right, but they'll tie up.
They'll go ahead now two to one. Simmons drives on
(02:53:54):
the run to give the Cardinals a lead two to one,
so a single and stole them based by rock and
it's two to one Cardinals.
Speaker 1 (02:54:04):
The old ladder is what you gotta do to beat
the Cardinals. You can't drop off the bases, and you
leap it on once and really of the base hit,
I guess the only one he had.
Speaker 2 (02:54:11):
Right, Well, he was on two other times, of course,
and we throw him out once steal him. He's two
for three and attempted steals. And here's Tory. Now, I'll
see if he steps out again here and draws another
bock ball inside. I'm telling you, I gotta give without
(02:54:32):
any question, I'm gonna give Tory credit for stepping out
back in that seventh then to create that box, just
like I get one of the smartest teams I ever saw,
and doing things like that was notre dame. They'll draw
you outside on the long counter, a shortcunt. They're so
disciplined in that. Here's the one. Oh and I gotta
believe Tory did it back in the seventeen. You know,
(02:54:55):
the umpires aren't gonna call time when you step out,
more of once the man is ready to pitch. Now,
that's the secret to the whole thing, the timing of it.
And as newly described, Harvey put his right hand up.
We sat here and watched it on the replay. There's
no belonga about that started the day time was called,
but Dale called the back and we didn't get it overruled.
(02:55:16):
Here's a two all down there, two and one. Ray sure.
Since then, I just lived over watching Rubaski walk off
the mountain, he says, I'll guarantee if we were to
play those guys. He said, if we're able to play him,
you watch Rose and Morgan and Benjamin Rabaski stitching, and
(02:55:37):
they said we'll drive him up a wall, swinging them
as hegen and ready were red hot. And he said, well, now, Ray,
first you got to get in there. He said, I
know that, I know that, but if we do, I'll
guarantee it in Raboski steitch and he'll walk off the
sick himself up and he'll wonder when the next batter's
coming up, because we'll be over with that rosen bag
all night on him or all afternoon. Two balls, two
(02:55:58):
strikes again. I got to get her about credits. The
pitch two toy starts at twenty, they get their run,
they go to the bottom of the thirteen, and it's
pseudo want the cardens hi Fi is your own susy.
Speaker 4 (02:56:12):
Star me Mary June, and I'd like you to give
a listen to some news from your Chrysis Primis. Fuel
is the money in your pocket.
Speaker 1 (02:56:20):
Thank you, Mary Jane.
Speaker 2 (02:56:20):
You're right, because money is what this message is all about.
Right now, it's year end clearance time at your Chrysler
Premith Feelers.
Speaker 1 (02:56:27):
That means he's tagging every seventy.
Speaker 2 (02:56:29):
Four car in stock with a year end price, year
end prices on his eighth Great Small Car Buys, including Valuans, Ductors,
and Scamps, America's best selling line of compact cars, Year
end prices on his book side satellites and.
Speaker 1 (02:56:44):
Full sized Furies, and Chrysler's priceless to move them and
move them out fast because your Chrysler premise ear knows
it costs him.
Speaker 2 (02:56:51):
More to keep them than to sell them. So if
you have to get the most out of every dollar
you spend, and who doesn't. Nowadays the place to buy
that new car that you're cher Plymouth dealers, you could
really clean up on a great year in deal that
your pirate land Christ were Plymouth dealer. All right, it's
(02:57:19):
Bobby Robertson standing in now for his first avast best
pedator don knock. I've got it for Kirkpatrick back in
the tenthony, and now Bobby Robertson stands in for his
first at bass. Rich Polkers is up and Mike Garnott
two the one Cardinals leading in the bottom of the thirteen.
(02:57:40):
In expending games, they've been some kind of tough. They
won eleven, they'd lost three, and so far in this
last windscheme there they went twenty five innings, seventeen innings.
Now they're going thirteen. And if they close it out
here fifty five innings and three games and three victories.
(02:58:06):
That's if they win this one. Bobby Robertson batting at
two thirty eight, standing in, They're gonna play him out
in the air. Out of cashers around the left. Raboski
sends it high. Ball on bought the cardinal bullpen of
(02:58:26):
this young man. Roboski and Folkers and germay have been
some kind of rugget, and that's been one of the
keys to their recent success. Ball one and those strike
pitch Bobby, a hammering swing in the count is one
and one ball on strike one lines are guarded by
(02:58:53):
Torrian reets. They give the holes swinging the miss strike two,
one and two of the count. Raboski came on in
the ten inning. We haven't had a BaseT since saying
gain single back in the forth, So that shows you
what we've been looking at. Nothing the goose eggs. But
(02:59:14):
for an ere, we wouldn't have had a man on.
And that had occurred back in the seventh inning. Take
that air away and it's been three. Oh my god,
just everybody up and down in order. Two balls, two strikes.
Speaker 1 (02:59:34):
He done anything in a row.
Speaker 2 (02:59:40):
Here's Raboski's two two to Robertson stake. Came out swinging,
I just strike out number five. He had just blowing
the ball bout. You get a ready yard short and everything.
Here's Frank Devarus being lifted down. We're gonna have Geneklins
come up and back now. After Bucks don't win this
one and night, what they gotta do is bail them
(03:00:01):
out tomorrow and the following night. To do, they gotta
have to win somehow other two out of three. They're
not out of it even if they lost all three,
but the problems would be far more insurmountable. They gotta
win two out of three somehow or other if they
were to lose this one here tonight, Art now the
(03:00:25):
on deck batter. He'll be batting for a Royce clones
in here two to one Cardinals one eye and on
thirteen tennings, Hine away by a Robosqui ball on. Rabosqui
came on to do the pitching and the tenth inning
(03:00:47):
and has gone three and a third without a base,
without a walk, without anything, and not a ball hit
out of the infield. Incidentally, if I'll tell you anything,
we have not had a ball out of the infield
since he's pitched ball two and nose strikes and Simmons
out to downtow Allen, ball two and no strikes play.
(03:01:17):
I can't recall a resint pitcher in recent years or
in many years it has the fastball that this guy has.
He just Harry goes over town. Yes he is. He
can't take it away from him. Here's the uh. And
it took him a couple of years to get settled down.
He's there now, ball three, three and all the gene clins.
Speaker 1 (03:01:40):
I think of the guy close. It's all right if
I think we're gonna walk somebody, but he's the b
of furs that.
Speaker 2 (03:01:45):
He'd come so far, first time he's been three and
all anybody, Well, I got admit. I don't know how
he hit a home and off Gibson on that pitch
and the first inning, but I don't know how they
were able to score there under the seventeen there, so
we should be nothing nothing here going into Drey walk Cline.
That was the first breakthrough. That's only the second walk
(03:02:11):
now or now I'm going to get the call go
back for Jerry royd.
Speaker 1 (03:02:21):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (03:02:21):
We got some speed aboard as Arthur now standing in
batting at two fifty eight was one homework five run
battled in. He had a big home run for him
over to Philadelphia and gave us a lead in the
ball game. We ultimately lost. Congo beat the Pillies forty
(03:02:44):
two victory, beating Butchell san Diego lead the Reds one
nothing in the one inning of player Houston and the
Dodgers are playing. Now Robotsky psyacked himself up and Arthur
an Hour is standing there two to one the Cardinals
one out one on thirteenth inning.
Speaker 1 (03:03:07):
The first time game, pardon me, is the first time
this guy's had the picture of his shirt.
Speaker 2 (03:03:11):
See how he throw us from missing. Raboski checks, climbs,
comes to the plate inside corner called strike one. We're listening.
One's Mizaro one out one on thirteenth inning. Raboskie ready,
(03:03:36):
how takes it outside one in the one Funny how
the clock doesn't run in this game of baseball. Not
demeaning football or basketball or anything like that. They're great sports.
But there's one thing they don't have. That's this one ball,
one strike, our hammering swing. He'd hit it this scalped
(03:03:59):
one to Arthur's talking about the first time that he
todays John Gulladan Cincinnati.
Speaker 1 (03:04:05):
That night he was throwing so hard he said, man,
that guy's't got a yard fast than anything I've ever skin.
Speaker 2 (03:04:09):
You just looked at another yard.
Speaker 1 (03:04:11):
This guy's added another yard too.
Speaker 2 (03:04:17):
Well, we need a bug on the rug somewhere. Here's
the one two pitch now, Arthur, he strikes out swinging.
That is a strike, guy number six, and then bring
it up to Reddy Stunnitt. He's had fine looks. That
gets in them, Rabowski. He's only hadn't wanted to alan
for it, Yillie, and he's over for he's wearing the collar.
(03:04:39):
Since Raboski's been on, we haven't had the ball out
of the infield. Now that goes back of the pendentic
well with two out. If the Pirates were able to
get a bug loose on the rug, mister Klein's good operates,
but against that outfield of Brock, McBride and Smith, you
better get it in between him in a hurry because
they can fly. Now, Raboski ready to pitch. I found
(03:05:01):
no play off to the right.
Speaker 1 (03:05:05):
Rennie's napping his head back. He's gonna hell he missed it.
Speaker 2 (03:05:11):
The ball's in one strike once again. Raboski ready climbs
a short leaded first held by Tory here's the old one.
All client started to run. There's the ball popped up
and it's gonna be first baseman Joe Tory getting under
(03:05:33):
and the Cardinals up dropped the ball.
Speaker 3 (03:05:35):
Tory dropped the ball.
Speaker 2 (03:05:43):
Raboski ran ym Moppin came over to say something to him.
I don't know what it was, but Cory dropped the ball.
The line's of course, here's out at second, right on
the heel of his job, and he dropped it. The
(03:06:08):
line should be at third on that way, so that
you're going to take advantage of an air and play
and score. You did not run. The balls popped way
up in the air, and it's an error. Charch Satorian.
Here's Heavener one for five. If he's running pull out,
(03:06:29):
he's at third base. Well, there's nothing good so that
you can score on an air or a while that
you're a fastball.
Speaker 1 (03:06:35):
He went on.
Speaker 2 (03:06:37):
Raboski ready to help her up way, I'm going to
miss strike one. No balls in a strike now, or
(03:06:58):
Ruboski ready, here's a luck Andy on one. Kevener takes
it high for a ball one and one.
Speaker 1 (03:07:06):
This guy's blowing. I can't believe you can throw the
ball it's hard, just consistently under pressure the way he's
blewed it.
Speaker 2 (03:07:13):
Sometime you try to throw it so right, you overthrow.
Speaker 1 (03:07:15):
It and you don't get anything. He is really he
was just pitching within himself and he just can't throw
that hard he's doing it.
Speaker 2 (03:07:21):
There's no doubt that one ball, one strike, climbed the
second sentat it first. So one one to Heavener inside
corner calls strike two, one ball, two strikes. No one
believe that Tory dropped that ball at him right in
the head of the glove. The foe you say, looking
down below. Everybody just in mass as soon as the
ball as it just get up and started going for
the exits and gritty quick. And that's why Clions didn't
(03:07:44):
get any further than second base, because he didn't run
any further than that. He should have been the third
in a walk. You gotta go as hard out all.
That's one thing about Roberto Clementy. Boy did he run
Incent it runs he might have been able to, well,
he couldn't have gone the second here the one ball
to strike pitch take count Kevenor and Raboski picks up
(03:08:04):
his teammate Tory, who dropped what could have been a
very damaging air and Tory comes in and hugs him
and thanks him for that one, because there is any
question if he doesn't strack out Heavner and Heavener gets
a base set. This game is tied up and the
Cardinals are very elated over all of this as they've
(03:08:25):
won the game. They're twelve extra inning contests, no runs,
no HiT's one air or two left. The Cardinals win
it in fifteen innings to one. There's a battle against
inflation going on right now at all superdollar markets, and
you're invited to join. Superdollar markets will make your dollar
have more sense. There are plenty of specials every week
(03:08:45):
on calling them. Needs some fresh produce, to say nothing
of the values available every day in frozen foods and canbrids.
Superdollar markets are owner operated, so service and courtesy are
two of the basic ingredients that go along with their
which to keep prices fair and honest. There's always a
great plus for super Dollar customers that's sometimes hard to
find in most other large food markets.
Speaker 1 (03:09:06):
It's that wonderful, friendly feeling.
Speaker 2 (03:09:08):
Of welcome that puts you at ease the moment you
walk through the door.
Speaker 5 (03:09:12):
Super Dollar folks are people who like people, and.
Speaker 2 (03:09:14):
You can take it from the old gunner. Hell, do
everything they can to help you make that harder and dollar.
Speaker 1 (03:09:19):
Go a little further.
Speaker 2 (03:09:20):
You can help cool down the inflation by putting your
food futures in super dollar markets. See for yourself. Visit
a superdollar market this week and save superdollar.
Speaker 1 (03:09:30):
Markets the inflation fighters.
Speaker 2 (03:09:31):
It's not your food shopping at superdollar markets this week
and feel the difference. Well, anyway you slatch this game,
it was a dandie. Just take away your partisanship for
(03:09:53):
either the Cardinals and or the Pirates than you have
seen if you were out here, one whale of a
ball game for all the Cardinals. Now they take a
commanding two and a half game lead in the National
League East. They won eighty loss sixty eight. The Pirates
are seventy nine and seventy seven and seventy and rop
now two games behind the lost column two and a
half overall of the National League East, and now without question,
(03:10:16):
going to tighten up the bait the bullet and see
if they can't come back and get the Cardinals from
the next two in order to bring that lead right
back down to a half game. The first game in
the three game series. In the situation like this is
always all important. Five gips. Some just pitched the magnificent
ball game, and with two down, Oliver hit a golf
shot off.
Speaker 1 (03:10:35):
Him and I don't know how he ever got it,
but he did. He hit a wet shot an.
Speaker 2 (03:10:39):
Arnie Palmer wedch right off his shoe tops and popped
it into the right field seats for his ninth over
the ear, and we led one nothing.
Speaker 1 (03:10:46):
Then we'll come to play.
Speaker 2 (03:10:47):
I don't not know about for a long time until
I find out from the Empires, and I don't think
I'll be able to find out even then. And I'm
going to get Joe Torry some cut it with two downs.
Simmons was at first base on the bay set, and
just as Royce was set to pitch to Tory, Tory
stepped out. And it started on the replay as we
watched the Cardinal telecast, and then he described it. Doug
(03:11:08):
Harvey started to put his hand up, calling time. Royce
then did the one thing the pitcher's not supposed to do,
but it's only a natural reflex when you see the
batter step out, and the umpire started to raise his hand.
He stepped off the mound, broke his hands and stepped
off the mount, and Jerry Dale, the first base on fire,
called the box that foot Simmons at second base, and
then Tory hit a line shot down the left field line,
(03:11:29):
barely foul affair but fair nonetheless for the double that
tied up the ballgame. Now in the same token, the
Cardinals had Brock stealing in the tent and he had
the base stolen a mile. When we were pitching the
size more and as the pitch started to come down,
Sizemore stepped out and the umpire then called time and
Brock had to come back to first base. He had
(03:11:50):
that base stolen a mile. But so we saw the
two types of calls, and I just don't understand the
ruling of it and how they do it, because I
know one thing. The rule says, you're two things. When
you're starting to pitch, the batter's got to stay in there,
and if you step out when you're in the motion
of pitching, it's a ball. If it's a ball, it's
a strike, it's a strike. But they don't call it
(03:12:11):
that way, and I don't know why. And the other
thing is how they can let Ramoski take thirty five
and forty seconds between pitches to go out and psych
himself up without making him pitch within the twenty second rule.
With nobody on base, there's another thing, but he gets
away with it. The only guy in our lineup that
stopped him from doing that, rezisk Wu, stepped out and
went to the rozen bag on his own to just
(03:12:31):
try to break up his motion. I gotta say the
Cardinals are for real. Gibson was fantastic. Raboski without any doubt.
It's some sational four innings of pitching. Nelly striking out one, two, three,
four or five six batters and picks up his own
teammate Joe Toy, who made what could have been a
damaging year on the ball hit by stend it up
in the infield and we got two men on which
(03:12:52):
games should have been over there. He bears right down,
strikes out Heavener. He's just for real. He's one seven,
he's lost one. Royce the loser, fifteen and ten, Cardinals
two eight and two. Pittsburgh won five and three. Taking away,
as I said, now that the partisanship, this was some
baseball game. You got to admit that thrilling game to watch.
Speaker 1 (03:13:09):
And the Cardinals, now I have won six in a row,
we'd dropped six in a row. And that's the kind
of space you can make up in just a week's
time in this league. And it's something that you can
look back on last year.
Speaker 2 (03:13:18):
We recall a ball game here last year and we
lost to We beat Tom sever their best pitcher, and
we thought the Mets were dead because I think they
were about four or five games back at that time.
Speaker 1 (03:13:28):
And we had them beaten on the seventeenth of September, which,
by the way, this is we beat sever last year
in the seventeenth. The next night, we were sure we
had them put away in the ninth inning five to three,
and lo and behold, they came back and tied the game.
Want it? They went on and they played some team
name open I think in October last year.
Speaker 2 (03:13:45):
So I think.
Speaker 1 (03:13:47):
This thing still is not over. It's it's kind of
tough with the Fires, and if you're a Fires fan,
you got to be a little bit depressed, I would guess,
but you gotta look at one thing tonight. Pitching was there.
And if this Bark club gets pitching, they're going to
be pretty good. And they were good tonight. I think
you're not going to look at Alan Orboski every night.
He just can't pitch everything and he's not going to
be that fast, I'll tell you that.
Speaker 2 (03:14:08):
But they had the pitching too, and that's why they
wanted tonight. But it was a very filling game. But
there are still many more games to be played. We've
got five with them and you can't give it up.
Tomorrow Jim Looker will get a start, he'll go against
Jim McLoughlin, and till then we'll be.
Speaker 1 (03:14:20):
Back to do it. For the gunner, Bob Prince, and
for Radio Richard, for George Cleve or engineer and the
producer Bill Richard, Nellie King saying so long,
