< Amino acids play a critical role in brain health and development. A deficiency in particular amino acids can lead to rare genetic disorders such as PKU (phenylketonuria) which can lead to severe neurocognitive issues if not properly managed. As adults these can include anxiety, depression, seizures, executive dysfunction etc.
< Anything that contains phenylalanine can be problematic for individuals with PKU and similar conditions. This brings us to a little sugar alternative called Aspartame - which contains phenylalanine. And it's in almost everything you consume in the U.S, especially since the "sugar tax" was introduced. However very few citizens are even aware of this.
