Speaker 1 (00:13):
Up to this point, it was a regular day for Micah.
He had been playing and doingregular kids stuff at his age.
One particular afternoon, however, his mother told him not
to play or to live too far awayfrom their home.
She explained to him that therehad been some sort of a
religious revolt downtown andthat the Romans occupants and

(00:37):
now rulers of the region wereactivated to assess the
situation and, if needed,intervene accordingly.
Micah did not understand muchof this information, but he did
see his mother's face, whichgranted him assurance that
whatever was happening happenedto be something serious.

(00:57):
Micah was to meet his friendsfor a much-anticipated animal
parade.
You see, matthew, micah'sfather, carved him a beautiful
horse with detailed musclefeatures and even hair.
Micah was sure that he wasgoing to be victorious on the
exhibition.
That day, micah and his friendsmet at their usual location and

(01:19):
they were playing franticallywith their carved toys and
having a great time.
But not too far from theirlocation, however, micah heard a
mob and tumultuous screamingvoices.
Once they were alerted to thefull situation, they ran towards
the noise.
Micah remembered his mom'sadvice not to live too far from

(01:40):
the house but breaking throughthe crowd to get a better look
at what was happening, he sees aman carrying a large piece of
wood plank on his back, whilegetting whipped and cursed by
the crowd and Roman soldiers.
Micah began to feel scared andthought of leaving and returning
home.
But before he left, this bloodystranger with a weird crown on

(02:06):
his head took a closer look athim.
Micah felt his heart dancinginside his chest when he noticed
that this man gave him a weakbut unmistakable smile.
Suddenly, in the middle of allthis, the bloody stranger fell
to the ground.
Micah heard his painful voiceinside and felt deeply sad.

(02:32):
The Romans kept hitting him andordered the man back onto his
feet and to continue his walk.
After a bit of struggle, theman did just that.
He got back up on his feet andcontinued his painful walk.
But something remarkable tookplace.
Upon regaining his composure, micah found a piece of fragment

(02:56):
from the stranger's crown.
The boy took a thorn from theground.
Micah looked at it and, out ofnowhere, a voice inside his head
told him this will be with youuntil I return.
Not knowing exactly what thatmeant, micah saved the thorn and

(03:18):
ran back home.
We knew little of Micah's lifeafter these events took place
until an archaeologicalexpedition found documents
abandoned inside a jar of clayin a remote cave somewhere in

(03:40):
the Middle East.
The written material outlined aman that, although being a
great citizen and a great man offaith, a family man struggled
with some kind of an addiction.
What kind of an addiction, youmay ask?
Well, the absolute details werenot revealed either, but what
we do know is that there seemsto have been a documented

(04:03):
spiritual struggle with this man.
His life portrayed acomplicated scenario that found
him struggling between pursuingright from wrong and fighting to
make sure that he was in goodstanding in the faith and with
God.
In one section of the parchmentthere is a mention of this
man's precious collection ofwooden toys and childhood

(04:27):
memorabilia, but one of themstood up as the most protected
and guarded one a small tree thethorn mean.

(04:59):
In a general sense, the thornwill always reveal the power of
weakness in each and every oneof us.
In 2 Corinthians 12.7, paultells the Corinthians about his
thorn and how that made him feelso beneath the providence,
sanctity and purity of GodNotwithstanding.

(05:21):
God reassures him that he isaware of it and that he is also
stronger than it.
As we study biblical humility,we realize that it represents
our submission to a higher powerin order to overcome our
struggles and sins.
It means our submission to God.
Humility centers us between themortality of this world and the

(05:45):
eternity that identifies heaven.
Paul was essentially confessingthe Corinthians about his
personal struggle with thisissue, while also reassuring
them of the awareness that Godhas about it and how he will be
the one resolving the matter.
That bloody stranger, who wenow know to be Jesus of Nazareth

(06:07):
, told Micah this will be withyou until I return.
But that did not mean the thornitself.
He was speaking about thestruggle with his addiction that
would eventually ensue.
His thorn was similar to Paul's.
Their weaknesses were exposedand had no other choice than to

(06:28):
practice a level of humilitythat will propel them forward.
Submitting genuinely to God isthe only effective way to fight
sin.
This will also lead us awayfrom temptation.
This will also lead us awayfrom temptation.
But one may ask why the thorn?
Why the thorn in the firstplace?

(06:50):
Well, because the thorn is theway God helps us to get close to
Him.
He uses our weaknesses toensure we keep proximity to Him,
to him.
In 1 Corinthians 12, verse 8,paul wrote that God chooses the

(07:12):
despised to bring his gloryforward.
The thorn represents that event.
That simple piece of the treebranch that Micah held
represented the human struggleto sanctity in a sinful world.
In fact, 1 Corinthians 12 8 maymean just that.
He takes a sinful man in asinful world and introduces him

(07:34):
to a life of sanctity, only toreturn him right back to the
same sinful world he once livedin.
What a powerful, miraculousconcept.
You see, god is not so muchworried about your thorns, my
thorn.
He is more worried about theway we go around and how to

(07:55):
fight against it.
Will we do it by ourselves orbelieve when he said my strength
is made perfect in weakness?
I have my personal thorn, youknow.
I am pretty sure that you haveone as well, but now we know
that this is normal and evenacknowledged by God himself.

(08:15):
The question is how will wefight against it?
Thanks to Micah's curiosity, that day we can now understand.
Be blessed.
