(00:00):
here's something wild.
You have approximately 60,000thoughts per day, and most of
them are running on autopilot inthe background of your mind.
But here's what's even moreinteresting, the way you talk to
yourself about your business, your goals, and your challenges
is either your secret weapon oryour biggest obstacle.
(00:21):
Today I'm sharing how to turnyour inner voice into your
competitive advantage.
Pausing.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Welcome back to
Thrive in Five, where I give you
a quick burst of motivation andproductivity in five minutes or
less.
I'm Cindy, your host, aself-made entrepreneur, busy
mom, and a business coach.
I've built and sold severaldigital businesses ranging from
five to six figure successes.
So when it comes to managingtime and priorities in both life
(00:49):
and work, I get it.
I've been there and I am here tohelp you thrive.
Let's be real about theconversation that is happening
in your head right now.
Maybe it sounds like I shouldhave completed that task by now,
or I'm behind on everything, orI don't know what I'm doing and
everybody's gonna find out.
(01:10):
Does this sound familiar?
I see this constantly with theamazing women that I coach.
You all are being so mean toyourselves that you're actually
sabotaging your own success.
Here's what I see happening.
Every time you tell yourselfthat you are behind not good
enough or failing, somehow yourbrain starts to believe you.
(01:31):
And when your brain believesthat you're failing, it puts you
in survival mode instead ofstrategic mode.
In survival mode, everythingfeels harder.
Decisions feel overwhelming, andyou end up procrastinating on
the very things that move yourbusiness forward.
And the crazy part, most of uswould never talk to a friend the
(01:52):
way that we talk to ourselves.
But we think that being our ownworst critic will somehow
motivate us to do better.
Spoiler alert, it doesn't work.
Here's the fascinating thingabout how your brain works.
It doesn't know the differencebetween what you're telling it
and what's actually happening.
So when you say, I'm terrible atsales, your brain goes, okay,
(02:15):
she's terrible at sales.
Let me help her avoid all salessituations.
When you say, I never followthrough on anything, your brain
starts to look for evidence tosupport that belief.
But here's the flip side.
When you start talking toyourself like someone you love
and respect, your brain says,oh, we're capable and supported,
(02:37):
and suddenly you start showingup differently.
It's not about lying to yourselfor toxic positivity, it's about
reality.
Checking whether your innerdialogue is helping you or
hurting you.
I learned this the hard waythroughout building my
businesses.
I spent a lot of my mentalenergy telling myself I wasn't
cut out for entrepreneurship, and I almost proved myself
(03:01):
right.
I learned this the hard way whenI was building my second food
website.
I spent so much mental energytelling myself that I was not
cut out for this type of foodniche that I almost proved
myself, right?
But the breakthrough came when Istarted asking myself, is this
thought helping me take actionor is it keeping me stuck?
(03:24):
So here's how to transform yourself-talk the first step.
Catch your inner critic redhanded for one day.
I want you to notice how youtalk to yourself about your
business.
Don't judge it.
Just observe it.
When you miss a deadline, whatdo you say to yourself when
someone doesn't respond to youremail?
What story do you tell yourself?
(03:47):
Write down the actual words thatyou use.
You can't change what you won'tacknowledge, and most of us have
no idea how harsh our innerdialogue really is.
The next step is we are going toreality check your thoughts.
Now for each negative thoughtthat you caught, ask yourself,
is this actually true or is mybrain being a little dramatic?
(04:10):
Most of the time you'll realizethat you are treating opinions
like facts.
I'm behind on everythingbecomes, I have three things
that are a little bit later thanI planned.
I'm terrible at marketingbecomes, I'm still learning,
marketing and improving withpractice.
The next step is you need tochoose your champion voice.
(04:31):
This is where the magic happens.
Instead of letting your innercritic run the show consciously,
choose the thoughts thatactually support your goals
instead of, I don't know whatI'm doing.
Try.
I'm figuring this out as I go,just as every successful
entrepreneur, or instead ofsaying I should be further
along, try I'm buildingsomething meaningful and
(04:54):
progress takes time.
Let me give you some practicalsteps to make this work in your
daily business life.
First, I create what I call areality check mantra for common
situations.
When you're preparing for asales call, instead of saying, I
hope they don't think I'm pushy.
Try something like, I havesomething valuable to offer and
(05:16):
I am here to serve.
When you're posting content, instead of saying, nobody cares
about this, try saying, I'msharing value with people who
need to hear this.
The second thing is to starteach day by literally saying out
loud, you've got this.
I know it sounds simple, butthere's power in hearing
yourself say encouraging wordsYour brain needs to hear your
(05:40):
voice being supportive and notcritical when you catch yourself
in a negative thought spiral, interrupt it with this question.
What would I say to a friendgoing through this exact same
situation and then say it toyourself instead?
You already know how to beencouraging.
You just need to turn thatencouragement inward.
Here's what I want you toremember.
(06:01):
Your voice in your head iseither your biggest cheerleader
or your biggest obstacle, butthe choice is always yours.
You wouldn't hire an assistantwho constantly told you you
weren't good enough.
So why would you let your innervoice do that job?
Your self-talk isn't just feelgood fluff.
It's a strategic business toolthat affects your confidence,
(06:24):
your decisions, and yourresults.
When you master your innerdialogue, it's not just about
being kinder to yourself, youare actually setting yourself up
for greater success.
This inner growth work isexactly what I help
entrepreneurs develop in myone-to-one coaching and my
Growth Collective Mastermindbecause when you do a reality
(06:47):
check to your thoughts and youchoose empowering language, you
become unstoppable and remember, you've got this.
Now go tell yourself that samething and mean it.
