Welcome back to another episode of the Thriving Moms of Autistics Podcast. I talk about a mom’s journey quite a bit because life is essentially a journey for all human beings.

Our journey is made up of our experiences along the way from the time we are born until the time we pass. That is what shapes us and is important for the women we are becoming.

We are constantly evolving. Who doesn’t want to grow and work toward being their best?

In this episode, we dive into where you’ve been, where you are now, and where you are going. More importantly, I give you guidance on how to get where you want to be.

Can Moms Experience Joy Amongst the Challenges on Their Autism Journey?

Let’s start by breaking down the variables involved in one’s journey and what that looks like. Our past often gets a bad rap because some of our experiences from the past are often difficult.

The same is true for the present. And it will also be true about the future. Trouble is inevitable. We can’t escape it.

That is because bad things will happen, especially things out of our control. With that said, we can control some things.

That is easier said than done. We cannot gain control of things along the way if we don’t learn from the past or things happening now. Learning and growing are key.

So, why does it take so long to learn some of life’s lessons? Well, that is an entirely separate podcast episode. The important thing is that we can learn and it is up to us to learn now rather than later. That is one of the things we have control over.

A lot of work went into the Thrive course, which is found on www.thrivingmomsofautistics.com. I kept the aspects of this episode in mind as I developed the lessons on mindset, boundary setting, self-care, support system, and using personal strengths to overcome challenges on your journey.

Life throws us curve balls, especially moms of autistics. I wanted to help moms develop an arsenal of resources to get to where they want to be along their autism journey.

How Can Moms Get Unstuck and Move from Surviving to Thriving on Their Autism Journey?

Psychologist, Abraham Maslow, developed a hierarchy of needs, which was derived from his theory of human motivation. At the top or the hierarchy is self-actualization or where our greatest potential lies. He posits that one’s lower level needs must be met first before achieving self-actualization, such as shelter, food, and a sense of belonging.

I talk about these things often on the podcast and they are explored in the Thrive Course because they are central for helping moms of autistics achieve a positive centered life and be their best.

With age we learn more and more about the world and ourselves. Overtime, we evolve as human beings. Sometimes we get so caught up in the end goal or the destination that we fail to experience all the journey has to offer… the good and the bad.

That is unfortunate, because when you do this, you miss the many lessons along the way. The journey is hard at times, but those difficult experiences are like gold because they carry many lessons. When we miss the lesson, we remain stagnant or stuck. It takes longer to get where we want to be as a result.

Here are some things to remember along the way:
