Speaker 1 (00:00):
And the truth is,
life isn't clean and this show,
this space, it has never neededme to be perfect, so I just
remind myself that if I show upand just be me, that's enough.
Be present, and I've reallyfallen in love with that version
of me.
Hello, my friend, and welcomeback to this amazing mini-series
(00:25):
where I take you behind thescenes and looking at time for
tea in a whole new light.
So we are slowing down andpeeling back the curtain and
sipping a little deeper oneverything this show is really
about.
Now, I know I usually jumpstraight into the story, but
today's episode is a littledifferent.
It's for you.
Y'all have been sending mequestions in my inbox, my DMs,
(00:52):
asking the real stuff, not justabout self-care, growth, but
about me, the woman behind themic.
So today I am spilling the tearaw, unfiltered and just honest,
and answering some of your mostasked questions.
So let's dive in and get intoit.
Okay, this is just going to bea quick little Q and a, and I
just want to remind you.
If you hear something thatresonates with you or it makes
(01:15):
you want to ask more questions, feel free to reach out to me and
your question could end up onanother Q&A.
Okay, all right.
So Lisa from California askedso, makita, are you always this
calm and collected Girl?
No, absolutely not.
(01:35):
So I am a Capricorn, whichmeans, yes, I do love structure,
I love the idea and I cravepurpose, and I can outwork a
deadline with one eye open and acoffee in one hand and just
keep going.
But it also means I overthink,I overplan, and I sometimes put
(01:56):
so much pressure on myself to beperfect, to be right, to please
everyone else, that I forgetthat showing up imperfect is
where the true magic reallylives.
So I am not all that cool andcollected, but honestly, people
ask me that a lot, a lot, youknow.
Like, how do you stay so calmInside?
(02:19):
I'm usually a bundle of nerves, you know, and when I first
started this podcast like Ireally wanted this polished,
perfect look, this clean version.
And the truth is life isn'tclean and this show, this space,
it has never needed me to beperfect.
So I just remind myself that ifI show up and just be me,
(02:43):
that's enough.
Be present, and I've reallyfallen in love with that version
of me.
All right.
Tyrell from Atlanta asked howdo you keep showing up week
after week, and how do you dopodcasting, work, family, okay.
(03:04):
So I'll be honest, sometimes Idon't want to show up.
Sometimes I just want to lay inbed and just say, just kind of
check out.
I think we've all been likethat.
There have been moments when Isat in the studio in front of
the mic and I just couldn't findthe words, and I would sit up
in the studio for hours and comeup with absolutely nothing.
(03:26):
And there've been moments whenI was like I think I sucked all
my creative juice away and whatI found is that sometimes you
just need a break fromeverything.
So one thing I don't try to dois is do everything all the time
(03:46):
.
That made me kind of reallystep back and say you know what,
today ain't the day for that.
Sometimes you got to refuelthat creativeness and find
another way to spark it, and onthe days that I really feel like
calling it quits and giving up,it's amazing because I always
(04:07):
run into someone, either at astore or somewhere, and they're
like hey, makita, I listened toyour podcast and it helped me.
Or I always try to make time tolisten, and I think it was even
at work one time when someonewas like, oh my gosh, that
episode on sleep.
That was just like the bestinformation I've ever gotten.
(04:27):
I love that episode.
So it's those moments thatremind me to keep showing up
week after week.
It reminds me that I have apurpose, I have a voice, people
are listening and I am making adifference.
And it's okay to take a breaksometimes.
So I do this because I love it,because stories save people and
(04:49):
because I know what it feelslike to not be seen.
And this podcast is how I say Isee you All right.
Nina from DC asks where do yourideas come from?
Well, nina, everywhere.
As I said before, I love toread.
I'm a constant reader, whetherit's fiction, nonfiction, old
(05:12):
magazine, a good trashy novel.
I like to find inspiration fromeverything, and sometimes it's
just conversations with myfamily that spark something.
I'm like this is a conversationthat we need to have.
It could be a conversation witha coworker oh my gosh, how can
I take that?
I know someone else is goingthrough the same thing.
(05:33):
So you know, I just pull itfrom everywhere and sometimes
like I'm not really eventhinking about it, it's just
something that pops in and likethis would be a great story,
would be a great story.
And when I have too many ideas, because sometimes I overload on
(05:54):
ideas and I don't know where tostart because it's just so many
thoughts going on, and myhusband is using my soundboard
where I go to him and I'm like,so this is my thoughts, these
are my ideas, and he reallyhelps me put a lot of it in
perspective and you know, realize like, oh, that's going
to have to wait, I got to do alittle bit more research on that
or this requires this, and thatI don't want to rush it.
So having a good sounding board, someone that you can talk to
(06:17):
to kind of help you with thosecreative juices and find that
flow, really helps me a lot.
And remembering that I don'tneed permission to create, but I
do want to be honest.
And sometimes being honestmeans admitting that I'm scared,
I'm tired, and also that I'mgrowing, because me before would
not have recognized that the menow is like, oh, this is why I
(06:40):
feel this way, because I amactually feeling a little,
starting to feel burnout.
So that is, you know, a lot ofin real life, real life stuff
makes me draw from inspirationand come up with ideas, stuff
that actually is happening inreal time.
I'll do episodes on, but I did.
(07:03):
I did learn a lot as far asdon't do anything or talk about
something that you haven'thealed from yet.
So, even though it's kind ofreal time, I have to always
check in with myself and say amI ready to have this
conversation?
Because if I'm not ready, thenI think maybe it's not the
perfect time.
I need to still grow from it.
(07:23):
All right.
Next question so Jordan fromBrooklyn asks do you ever feel
insecure doing solo podcastepisodes?
So, Jordan, every single time Iconstantly overanalyze my voice
.
Sometimes I've gotten reallygood about it, but before I
(07:45):
really hated to hear myself.
So there's been times when Ihit stop, rerecord, delete,
start over again.
And there are times when I feelinsecure and wondering like I
mean, is anyone even listening?
You know I hear the stats, Isee, but sometimes it's like
does it make an impact?
Do I sound like I make sense oris this like a random
(08:10):
conversation?
But when I get feedback frompeople that send me or leave a
review and they're like oh mygosh, makita, it feels listening
to your podcast feels like I'mhaving this great conversation
with you, like I am part of it.
So when I hear that I'm likeI'm on, I'm on target, this is
(08:31):
where I want to go.
So, yeah, you know I definitelyhave moments of insecurity on
solo podcast episodes becausethose are.
That's just me bringing myknowledge, what I know, to the
table and sharing that withother people, and sometimes that
means sharing my vulnerabilityas well.
But I always remind myself thatI'm building connection and
(08:57):
stories heal.
So if you've started this withme, you've heard me on this
podcast, you've been with me formaybe the last six months,
maybe all four years.
Wherever you're at in thisjourney with me, I am deeply
honored to have you in thisspace with me.

(09:22):
kitchen table and now I have awhole studio and it's a bigger
space now and it's with deeperpurpose and I'm just honored to
share more stories and spillmore tea with you guys.
And I don't take anything forgranted.
If you've ever pressed play, ifyou've ever messaged me with a
(09:43):
thank you I needed that Ifyou've ever sat in your car,
your kitchen and just listening,I love you for that.

you want your question answeredand it doesn't have to be
anything specific about me, itcould be about the podcasting
process.
