(00:36):
Welcome back to Sledgehammer Horror guys.I am Ken sledge and let's talk horror
now today I am joined by thebeautiful duo of Courtney and Stephanie of They're
terrified and tipsy. How are youdoing today, ladies? Are you doing
good? Thanks for having us.That's great. This is a super honor
for me, and I just gotto say really quick before we take any
(00:56):
steps into what we're doing. Yourbackground is fucking amazing. It's it's a
little narcissistic that we have a blanketof our faces on the wall. I
think that's what it means to me, is that's your assigned seat. Okay,
I sit with me question. Youknow, if we come in here
(01:18):
we've had too much to drink,We're like, that's my faith, that's
where I sit. I'm afraid ifwe swapp I'll like break into a cold
sweat or something. So we justwe have to stay in our spots now,
that's right. Yeah, it's gonnabe weird. People are gonna listen
to the podcast when you gotta switchseats to be like, man, these
opinions don't sound like they're coming fromthe right person. They're not. No,
it just doesn't feel right. Wehave our own butt grooves. We're
(01:38):
good the Homer Simpson groove. Iguess be there before we talk about the
reason that you are here, thereason I asked you to be here.
I would like for the people thatdon't know you to get to know you
a little bit. So Gordony hasa degree in landscape design. Um,
but in Florida was kind of like, you know, no, right,
(02:02):
she decided to pursue her career aninterior design where there's air conditioning that yes,
yes, air commission was pretty important. Yeah. But she has always
loves scary movies and it takes alot for her to be uncomfortable living after
watching one. So um, youknow you are the one that like loves
(02:22):
the shock factor and you know makesit makes fun of the cheesy horror movies
and the cliches such as people runningup the stairs away from a villain.
But you are more of the Ilike things that scare me because these could
happen in real life type of things. So um, when you talk about
that, can you tell me,like, what is the type of movie
that scares you the absolute most?Oh? I think it is more of
(02:45):
the real life things like paranormal doesn'tdo anything for me because I I guess
it could technically happen, but it'smore of people doing sadistic things to other
people. Is where I have themost issue with. Um that Sometimes it's
the hardest thing. I don't like. UM Like gory, like overly gory,
(03:07):
unnecessary gore is what I like tosay. Um, But I think
it's the it's people being sadistic iswhat is what really gets me. Usually
in the plot. No, II get it. Um See, it's
weird because that's why I love thehorror genre, because you have all these
different mini genres, all these subgenresof horror, and yeah, see,
(03:30):
for me, the ones that scareme the most are like, uh,
religious horror like Exorcist, The Darkand the Wicked, Like I'm thirty seven
and The Dark and the Wicked almostmade me poot my pants. Have you
guys seen The Dark and the Wicked? No? No, okay, okay,
do we need to add that toour list? You need to add
(03:51):
that to your list please. LikeI said, we watched at like two
o'clock in the afternoon, and Iwas like, hey, uh, we
can open the blinds bother me.It's also went more light in here would
be great, all right, right, and it's funny. I thought.
I was just sense of tized.I was like, you know, horror
movies that I've seen it, youknow, there's nothing. I watched them
for entertainment, Nothing can really scareme anymore. And then I watched that
(04:12):
movie and I was like, itwas the best feeling I've had in a
long time, Like, wow,is it a newer movie? Okay,
again, I cannot recommend it enough. I literally was just sitting there and
I was just like, this isterrifying because it is an hour and a
half of pure tension with no jump, scare breaks, no comic relief really,
(04:33):
and you're just like, please dosomething to break this tension. And
the reason I bring that up whyyou know it's a weird thing. You're
like, Oh, you're talking aboutCorney and how much she loves horror movies.
Why are you talking about you?And how scared you get to movies
because definitely fucking hates them, hatethem so um. You know. Committing
(04:56):
to the podcast was not an easything for her, but she overcame her
anxieties. She bundled up with herfavorite couch blanket with her face on it.
She started watching and screaming and coveringher face and pacing around the room.
Yeah, man, I wish Iwas a fly on the wall.
You watch The Dark and the Wicked, so um. You know, I
know you're not a huge fan ofscary movies, and you know they really
(05:17):
do kind of get under your skin. But what gave you the drive and
the commitment to go? You knowwhat? I'm gonna overcome this. I
want to be a part of thispodcast. I think this is a great
idea. This is really something thatI would like to do. I think
a lot of it comes from MinorCourtney's friendship because we've known each other for
a long time. So just thetwo of us having normal, any type
(05:39):
of any day kind of bullshit conversationis entertaining in itself. So when we
were talking about doing a podcast,we were like, well, we have
fun together anyway. Like imagine it'sa topic that we have completely opposing like
feelings on, but like to aridiculous extreme, that's actually funny because if
we talk about even just a movie, just the banter in itself is just
(06:00):
entertaining for our ridiculous man and Ipromised wine. So there's alcohol being consumed
when we're podcasts. Yeah, andright now too. Yeah. It's funny
because like I'm asking you this,Stephanie, I'm like, why did you
start podcasting? And it's like whenmy mom asked me why did you start
smoking? Because other people were doingit and it was cool. Here you're
doing it one hundred percent why Idid it. So, as I spoke
(06:25):
at to begetting guys, these amazingladies do an amazing podcast, and that's
why I wanted to bring them hereso you guys can get to know them
a little bit, and you canget to know them a little further by
clicking the links down in the description, because I have their social media links
as well as the links to theirpodcast, so you can make sure you
subscribe to the podcast. Check thatout. You'll hear a lot of amazing
horror stories. You'll hear a lotof fantastic cursing, the best cursing you've
(06:47):
ever heard in your life. It'scorrect cursing. You get an appropriate cursing.
So it's one of those things whereI love to bring people on here
whose work I respect, and inorder for you guys to do a horror
podcast. Horror had to start foryou somewhere, So now I would like
to take a trip back to thepass and talk about what got you each
(07:11):
started in the horror genre, yourfirst horror movies. I'm gonna start with
you first this time, Courtney, your first horror movie was Okay, so
here, Okay, I'm gonna startwith this. Now, this could be
debatable. The best stories start thisway. Okay, right, there's more
terror story. Hold on. Justdon't get your panties in a wad right
now. Um. Okay, Sothis is debatable whether this is a scary
(07:33):
movie or not, but it terrifiedme as a child. It's called The
Labyrinth, and I'm sure everybody knowsabout it. With David Bowie and he's
stinging and dance with tight pants, his junks all showing everywhere. It's ridiculous.
Um, but I don't there's somethingabout this movie that just it could
have been The Puppets, I don'tknow, but it's just creepy as shit
(07:55):
and Jim Henson, I mean, come on, come on. I mean
as a child, I was probablyprobably I don't know, like eight or
ten watching this movie and it wasjust it was something I'd never seen before,
and I it scarred me for life, and I think I like scary
movies because of it. I thinkI was kind of weaned into the scary
movie genre very slow. It wasn'tsomething that was abrupt and like, I'm
(08:18):
scarred for the rest of my life. But it's one of those movies that
I remember, like it's it's amemorable movie for me, and I had
a feeling it was that because themoment I saw you, I thought to
myself, she reminds me of thebabe. Um, that's one of the
Yeah, yeah, no, it'sIf somebody hasn't seen the movie, I'm
(08:39):
not being weird. It's a it'sa song from the movie, I promise,
um. And then you're right nowthat I've watched that movie is an
adult because I also watched that whenI was very young, and you know,
the bog of eternal stench, ohmy god, fire things. You
know, it's a total gateway horrormovie and in damma oh yeah. For
(09:00):
repeat viewers, I'm sorry for youto hear this again, but I think
horror is the hardest genre to sayyes, this is a horror movie,
or no, that is not ahorror movie because you can't say it has
to have jump scares. Peewee's BigAdventure has the best jump scare of all
time, and that's not a horrormovie. You can't say it has to
have death. The Lion King hasdeath, Bambi has death, All Disney
(09:26):
with death. So horror to meis a genre that is whatever is horrific
to you. Yes, bawled intothe horror genre, and I look at
movies like Labyrinth, Willy Wonka andthe Chocolate Factory, The Wizard of Oz,
or Crystal. I can make anargument that all these movies have horror
elements to him. Some of thescaredest I've ever been as a little boy
(09:48):
was watching Labyrinth and seeing um,you know David boy with Hoggle and you
had that Crystal and he's like, yeah, he's just flipping it back and
forth. Yes. Or Willy Wonkawhen they're in the train or on the
boat, I mean, and it'sgoing down in the colors or changing and
he's singing that song that's nightmare fields. I still have nightmares about that fucker
today. So we know that youstarted with Labyrinth, yes, But what
(10:13):
about you, Stephanie? What wasyour first horror movie. The first one
I remembered watching was when I wasprobably like fifteen or sixteen, and it
was House of Wax, which Irewatched and I immediately regretted it. Immediately.
I was like, I could havepicked any fucking movie, and this
is the one that I willingly toldyou was the first one I watched.
(10:37):
So just I just first sake ofargument, we are talking about the Chad
Michael Murray, Paris Hilton. Yes, okay, no, um. And
this is something that I think isreally cool because this is over four hundred
episodes that I've been doing this podcastof my first horror movie. That's including
(10:58):
Spholes, and there are episodes wherethere's two, three, four or five
people in, so I've I've hadover five hundred people doing my first horror
movie. This is the first timetalk for both of these films. Stuper
super Hell, Yeah you can't.That's really really cool to me. And
I love how Courtney is like, yeah, I watched my when I was
(11:20):
like four stuffs I was like fifteen, still suck hated it. We've had
like a brief discussion about it,and I think maybe my ease into like
what I consider the horror you know, genre was very like Puppets. It
had puppets in it, for God'ssake. And then herd was like House
of Wax, where I'm going toI'm going to put people in wax and
(11:43):
make and die slowly, right right? So yeah, yeah, you kind
of went into the pool, youknow, like you walked right into it.
Yeah, and then you were justwalking as some jackass through you in
the twelve section, exactly what happened. That's exactly what happened, because we're
talking about before accord. He's like, why the fun would you watch a
(12:03):
movie like that when you were likefifteen and I and I don't like scary
movies, and especially prior to thispodcast, I wouldn't even watch one.
And I would always joke that, like the only way I watched one when
I was an adult was because myhusband would like trick me into watching it.
She get into the plot stop.I'd be like doing something, and
he would like put a movie onbecause he loves scary movies, and he
(12:24):
put one on. And of coursemost of them start off with like they
lure you in, right, likeyou get interested, you get invested,
and then I'm screwed because I'm investednow. I'm scared completely so, but
she can't stop watching it, right, I'm invested. Right. So when
I was a teenager, my friendcame over to my house and she had
like gone a Blockbuster or something, and she was like, I rented a
(12:45):
movie for us to watch, andI'm like cool, and it was just
the two of us, and Iremember us both being scared of it.
But I'm like, well, it'sjust the two of us at my house.
I can't leave. I live here. Where am I going to go?
I can't be like Mom could pickme up. I'm here. Yeah,
so just bitch ley because then I'malone. Take the VHS down a
good enough fun out of my house. Don't come back. Oh dare you
(13:07):
my friends any longer? I likehow she's like, listen, the movie
has ched Michael Murray from One TreeHill. You're gonna love it. He's
sexy and I'm strong. He's stillangsty on this movie. You'll love it.
Okay, greet you heard, Yeah, we'll screw me, I guess.
So let me know that you wereboth very young ladies the first time
(13:30):
you had watched it, and uh, Stephanie, we know you watched it
with a friend of yours that broughtthe vhs over from Blockbuster. They killed
my families little mom and pop videostore. But whatever, Oh what about
you, corny? What would yousay? Could you remember who you watched
Labyrinth Wood for the first time?I honestly, I have tried to rack
my brain, and I I haveno idea where I was. I maybe
(13:54):
it's because I watched that movie somany times that the first time is not
like, it's not memorable. Idon't know. I don't know who I
was with. I was probably atmy house. I can't imagine that my
parents would allow me to watch thatthough. That was not something that I
feel like it had to been atsomebody else's house, right, Maybe I
don't know who knows. I don'tknow. It's like I don't know where
(14:15):
I was. No, I don'tknow who I was with. But I
know David Bowie's package was in myfucking face the whole entire fucking movie every
time dancing. You're like, Idon't all right, David hypnotized, Oh,
I rewatched the movie for the firsttime, and probably I don't know.
(14:39):
Twenty years um, the last coupleof days a couple days ago.
I don't know whatever um it was. It's a whole new perspective in general,
because I don't remember as a kidthinking that his junk was in my
face, because it was just notI wasn't there. I was a kid.
It didn't do anything for me,so but I was I was like,
oh God, okay, these puppetsare stupid. His junk is in
(15:01):
my face? Why is his hairso big? But he can I mean,
he was moving around, he wasdoing the dance. Yeah, he
was doing a good time. Andanother thing I've talked about is I love
the ability of us as human beingsto grow and learn new things. Now,
sometimes that's beautiful, and it's soamazing to watch yourself grow and learn
(15:22):
things from when you were a childto an adult and to be able to
blossom. But when you watch Labyrinthas a child, you're like, this
is this beautiful story, and youwatch this adult, You're like, this
dude's dick is in my face andhe fourteen year old girl trying to make
her his wife. I'm like,God, David Weird the whole like dance
sing, and I'm like, Idon't remember feeling that way, but that's
(15:43):
not a gay seen year old. He's going after this little girl and she's
like, you have no power overand he's like, God damn it,
why did you say something like that? That's just fine, say to me,
I've got my junk out this wholemovie. How got power over everybody
you were but not you? Sarah? This is horror shit. I put
(16:03):
the junk away. We're getting outof here. So Labert is all joking
aside. Labyrinth is a movie thatreally did shape a lot of who I
am. Me and my sister usedto play like we were playing Labyrinth as
kids, and we would go inthe bog of maternal stand sure, I
would count that, hold my handsout, and I'm like, chose down.
(16:25):
We do all that stuff. Soit's a movie that really really did
shape who I am. And Icould definitely see the horror elements that come
along with this film. So we'regoing to bounce back to you now,
Steph, and we know that you'renot a huge fan of scary movies and
House of Wax very brutal. It'sa very brutal film, and it got
another thing I talked about with theHouse of Wax, and I really think
if you guys had not seen it, or if you've seen it, go
(16:47):
back and give it a rewatch, because when the marketing came out, the
movie was literally marketed as, hey, come watch Paris Hilton die. That
the whole marketing of the film waslet's take somebody that you know forty percent
of the you can't stand for reasonsthat we don't even know, and kill
her and market a whole movie aroundthat. And the bummer of that is
that's all I remembered about this moviewas, Oh, that's the movie where
(17:08):
Parris Hilton dies. That's I justgonna say to you. In response to
that, was like, that's whateverybody remembers. Because my first thought too
when I think of that movie, besides one scene that we'll talk about,
is like, oh, Paras Hiltondies in it. And when I rewatched
it, I was like, she'sactually pretty good in the movie. Like
surprisingly, the movie is very good, and it's had very good horror remake,
(17:30):
and it is so unjustly treated becausepeople like, thought's the Paris Hilton
movie, Like listen, okay, the ten things I Love about you guy
played the joker and how did thatturn out? Anything to talk about or
something to hate about you. Whatever, I'm glad you played the joker.
Okay, when I've heard about thatcasting, I was like, this is
the dumbest shit I've ever heard. You retracted that quickly, didn't you.
(17:52):
Well, I walked out of thetheater like you guys want to see me
hide a pencil. So you know, that movie is very effective. But
it's a very very good movie. And it's kind of a little segue here
because I would like to know whichscene it was stuff that affected you the
most from House of Wax. Well, when I was thinking about the movie,
I wanted to think about things thatI remembered from nearly twenty years ago
(18:17):
the first time I watched it andthen rewatch it again because I took a
couple of notes before I watched it. I like things that stuck at my
head. So the one scene thatI remembered still bothered me today when I
watched it the other day. Sowhen I think, it's Wade the boyfriend,
when he's the first one that getskilled, right, and he's the
first one that we see the entireprocess happened too, and he's propped at
(18:41):
the piano, just sitting there andhis friend comes in and he's looking through
all the figures and he's like,oh, this one looks like Wade,
and he touches them, and hiseye moves inside his wax sculpture, and
he thinks that his friend is stuckinside of this figure here. So he's
trying to help him out, andhe's trying to peel the wax off,
(19:03):
not knowing that that is part ofhim now, and it's literally peeling his
face off of his body. Andthen you see a little tear of like
you just know he's in excruciating pain. He can't do anything. It's like
he's so helpless and he was tortured. And I remember I, almost twenty
years ago watched that scene and itbothering me to still remember it. And
(19:26):
then when I saw the other day, I was like, I don't think
I want to watch the part wherehis face gets people. Then the tear
comes because it was just it's justit gets me. It's like to my
core every time I saw it,like it's just heartbreaking. It's rough,
and it's one of those things wherebeing trapped in something and not able to
(19:51):
move to me is one of thescariest ideas in the world. And I'm
not clocktrophobic by any means, butsomething like that or even worse to me
is I don't know, a fewladies between the movie Jordan Peels Get Out,
Yeah, yeah, the sunken placewhere you're your own body, ye
control, Like those things to meare what you know, like that's why
why would you? In my brainlike why would you? Why would you
(20:15):
make that exist? Yeah? Inhere? And you know, you go
back to oh five and you watchHouse and Wax and it's the same thing,
you know, the torture that youwent through and you're sitting there not
express I mean, it goes allway back to the tourist Trap from the
eighties, you know, when they'reputting the paper mache over the girl's face,
and it's just like, these arethe scariest ideas of any movie,
and people doing things to other people. It is what is so freaking scary.
(20:38):
Well, and even when Courtney wastalking earlier about the type of movie
that bothers her, I have ahard time with anything torture related as well,
Like there have doubly torture. Therehave been a couple of movies that
when um Me and Courtney and thenDustin who um does all the magic for
our show have gone together and kindof come up with a list of movies
to watch. There have been acouple that, like I've looked up that
(21:00):
were like really heavy tortured ones, and I've had to veto because like anything
that's like somebody just really harming somebodyelse like that like really upsets me.
So I'm like, I don't wantus to I don't want to have to
talk about it, you know whatI mean. So it's like, so
I think with this movie of likewatching you know what happened to all of
these people in the entire town andtourists who are like lured into that ambrose
(21:23):
over a town And then you thinkto yourself, like, oh shit,
they all died like that, Sowho knows how long they're sitting there propped
and whatever before you know inevitably whathappens. It's like, holy shit,
it's like twisted. It's a twistedmovie. Well, you're like, can
you just get a drink? Talkabout cotton mouth um? And you know,
(21:48):
because for me, everybody has theirtrigger, you know, and for
me, I can't say the wordit rhymes with great um. That is
a trigger. For me that there'swhen people recommend or movies to me,
like, that's my first question,is there sexual assault in this movie?
If there is, I'm gonna pass. You know, and some people love
that stuff and there's nothing wrong withthat if that is your you know,
(22:11):
some people have gone through that typeof situation and that is a way for
them to cope with it. Andyou know they look at the revenge aspect
and you know that is them vicariouslylive and I get it, I understand
it. I always have to saythis little disclaimer because I feel like when
I say I don't like that stuffthat I think it's grosser, it's wrong.
It's just not for me. Yeah, you can live vicariously through them,
(22:34):
and they are your therapy. Theyare your way to cope with things.
I am so happy that that worksfor you. Me personally, not
a thing that I can stomach. You know, it makes me feel hot,
I feel like I'm going to throwup. I feel irritable, I
feel gross. I can't do itbecause you might as well kill the person.
Now, like in real life I'vetalked about, I can hang out
(22:56):
with murderer. I don't know whatthat other person did. They could have
had it coming. If someone comesin my house and it's them or my
kids, it's going to be them. If you do that to somebody or
something like that to a child,never a reason. There's never been a
reason for you to do that. There's no excuse you can give me to
make it okay. I can't fuckwith you ever again. So um,
it's unforgivable killing someone. And theycould have had it coming. I don't
(23:18):
know if they did to you,as none of my god. But the
other thing, nobody ever had thatcoming in any circumstance. So let's get
happy again. We're talking about, you know, these movies that are so
great. But Courtney, we talkedabout with Stephanie what she affected her the
most. But what would you sayyour favorite scene from Labyrinth is? Okay,
so my favorite scene because I mean, come on, there's not a
(23:40):
whole lot of horror in the Labyrinth, but I think the scene that I
is like iconic for me is um. It was when it was like in
the living room of the Labyrinth Castlewherever with all the goblins, and he's
sitting in Jared is sitting in histhrone, and um, and he does
(24:02):
the the what's it called magic MagicDance? Is that the song? Yes?
And of the Babe Babe what power? Yeah, Like that's amazing.
The things are like jumping all overthe play. I mean, it's just
an iconic thing. So I'm sorryyou've never seen it. Um, you're
gonna have to. And also theDark Crystal and never earning story, so
(24:23):
you need all of those friending stories. Okay, I feel so much better
now that I explained it out.I was like, you remind me of
the Babe. She's like, whatthe fuck does scripture say to you?
Its song lyrics from the movie.I promise what part of that scene that
you're talking about. There's a momentin that scene where they're throwing the baby
in the air and throwing the babyso goddamn high. Yeah, I can
(24:45):
tell that point the dust baby becausethe baby, Oh my god, David
Hill out, you've got dunk powerright now. By leverage. My gosh,
man pook that thing away that hedid. That was a little and
(25:07):
I don't really understand that part ofit because that's just weird. But okay,
you know what, he can,he can do what he wants whatever,
right whatever, But that that waslike The iconic part for me was
that the magic dance, the sequencethat he did right so and again one
of the most probably one of oneof the most iconic moments in the whole
movie. Like I said, wheneverI talk about this movie, the main
(25:30):
thing that comes up is, uh, you remind me of the Babe,
you know, like that whole sequenceis so memorable, and the puppet worked
throughout this whole movie is fantastic, fantastic creepy. Yeah, I'm maybe practical
effects. I love the puppeteer work, even the little caterpillar at the beginning.
No, my god, that's closeenough seeing that not one of my
(25:52):
wife. But come see, uhwhat does he say, do you mean
side make the misses misses? It'sgreat. I'm like, oh my god,
I love I love how how ironicit is at the end of that
scene, how he keeps going youdon't want to go down that way,
and then she finally goes the otherway, and she would have gone that
way, she'd have gone straight tothe castle. You're like, oh my
(26:17):
god, I know, I know, such a good movie, such a
great right. It really is.So we do know, Stephanie the House
of Wax. We talked about ita little bit at the beginning, and
is a remake. Have you seenthe original Vincent Price version of the film.
I can't recommend it enough. It'sIt's one of the films where what
(26:40):
I love about the House of Waxremake because I'm not one of these people
that's completely anti remake. I thinkremakes, even the worst remakes, have
great, great benefits um well, because even like let's say there's a dogshit
remake like April Fool's Day. Let'sjust say next that movie, Oh God,
people that have never been the ogApril Fool's Day will go and watch
(27:03):
the remake and go, man,I didn't know this was a remake.
Let's go check out that original filmand see what that was like. Sure,
so you know, it does guidepeople back to the originals. And
with the House of Wax the VincentPrice one, it really focuses around your
villain in the movie and why heis the way he is. And I
think a perfect remake is when youtake the bones from the original movie and
you put your own skin and organsover top of it. You make it
(27:25):
your own. I don't need tosee everything you've done in the original because
that's already been that's already happened.Take that idea and make it your own,
and that's what House of Wax did. So you really are getting two
completely different viewing experiences. I really, if you get the chance to check
out Vincent Prices, very good film, very creepy, still great practical effects.
So if you get the chance tocheck it out, I really cannot
recommend that one enough either. Okay, that's interesting. I really did feel
(27:48):
like this one. I wish thatthey kind of talked about the twins a
little bit more, because they doin the very beginning, of course,
and you know, there's an evilone always and there's a good one,
okay, but then when we meetthem, we just kind of like meet
them and then we have to assumethat the one that's doing all the work
is the evil one, not theone that seems nice, you know.
(28:08):
So it's like, I don't thinkthat they gave us enough about the twins,
but they gave us enough to kindof get through the movie and know,
you know, the gist of it. So it may be interesting to
see the original one to kind ofget more backstory on them, absolutely,
because in the original one there's onlyone. Oh interesting, Oh no,
the reason I asked you that question. Labyrinth doesn't have a remake, but
(28:30):
like we do know, remakere equalsequels kind of all the rage right now
in Hollywood Courtney Wood. Is Labyrinththe movie that you would like to see
remade today? I mean why not? I mean, as long as they
have the bog, I mean,I'm good. Give me the bog,
give me the puppets, give me, give me the date that day.
It will be really cool too. They'll probably be a little bit better.
You know, they maybe not puppets, maybe they're actual I don't know.
(28:56):
People for me like I would you. Three seems to happen to make a
Labyrinth three make work? Why I'mlistening for practical? Don't give me a
bunch of CBI like I don't wantover CGI two. The characters that you
get, the actors you get toportray your characters. You're gonna have to
(29:17):
sell me on these actor because DavidBowie completely killed it. Oh my god,
he killed it, and I thinkhe cannot be replaced. He can't
be replaced, is my problem.Okay, go ahead. That's the thing
like that you're gonna have to getsomeone, But you're gonna also have to
get someone that can sing, becauseLabyrinth is very much a musical and there
are so many musical moments throughout thatfilm, and that is integral to the
film. You have to keep itin musical because that is part of the
(29:41):
reason that people fall in love withit. You leave the theater and you're
still singing these songs in your headbecause they're so catchy and sing along the
bowl And um, I'm probably gonnawatch this movie tonight because I fucking love
this movie. I know it's great. Do it and three enhance the package.
If you're gonna to do it,you do it bigger, you do
it better, you do it better. Yeah, yeah, you know what
(30:08):
we're here, maybe going sixty feeton the throws in this one. Oh
my god, you know what Iagree. I mean, if you're gonna
do it, you might as welldo it good. That's the only animatronic
I want to see in the film. I want it moving on its own.
Um well, I died over onthe right side last time. Don't
even ask because it will come afteryou. So Nope. I've had an
(30:33):
amazing time talking to you guys aboutyour first four movie and what those movies
mean to you. But now Ido want to throw you a little bit
of a curveball here for a second. I started with you last time,
Courtney, So for this moment,Courtney, you're gonna get to be a
cheater, cheater, pumpkin eater.I gets some time to think asking you
guys the same questions. So youguys have had to have your own responses
(30:55):
now, but this one, youguys are going to be asked the same
question. And Stephanie, you don'thave any time. No pressure, no
pressure, Okay, so you're aperfect I gotta bring my buddy in.
My little buddy ghost faces here andhe has a question for you. What's
your favorite scary movies? Stephanie? What is your favorite I know you're not
a fan of horror movies. Whatis your favorite horror movie? If you
(31:18):
had to choose one, that wasa curveball? O God, I am
to recover from that, Papa brandomlyUm Okay, I don't know if I
have a favorite of all time, but there have been a couple that we
watched that scary me, like Stuckwith Me or I remember the most um
well, like we talk with oneall the time we talk about Hereditary for
whatever reason, of all the scarymovies that we've watched, Hereditary just like
(31:44):
sticks with me for I mean,we've seen I don't know, one hundred
and forty scary movies at this point, and it's like, there's just so
many visuals in that movie, andI think anything that involves kind of like
a weird spiritual pair normal kind ofelement too kind of makes things a little
bit like limitless in a movie. And there was also I don't know,
(32:07):
just like witchcraft involved, and there'sjust so many like unexplained moments that just
happened to this poor family that likeit just it fucks with me a bit.
It really did mess with me forit lingered with me for a while.
So I would think that movie isprobably the most memorable that we've watched
for me. Well, that's agood seguent because we go from David Boi's
package to a lot of unhinged packagesand Hereditary. Oh I like that,
(32:30):
good segue, Good job I do. One thing I can say about Hereditary,
I've said this a couple different timeson the podcast, that is probably
my favorite movie theater experience I've everhad. After and I were lucky enough
to go see a scater of thatwhen it came out, and we weren't
spoiled at all, and so whenthe moment happened, the whole theater went,
oh, like, We're all sittingthere like, no way that just
(32:50):
happened there, No way, Yeah, just fucking happened. Um. I
could not have been in a theaterfor that movie. I doubt it that
there was a rough higher movie. And then there's like one scene, you
know, when like the son's inhis room and the mom's like on the
wall cinder in the background, andshe like scurries by and you don't really
see it at first, and thenI'm like, holy fuck, are she
then the whole time? And Ilike yell, And we always joke that,
(33:14):
like I have to make sure mydoors and windows are closed in my
house because I swear my neighbors canhear me, and who they don't know
what I'm doing, they don't knowwhat I'm watching. But if they hear
me yell like holy shit, wereyou there the whole time? Like they're
gonna be concerned for my safety. So I need to watch it a little
bit. But yeah, like there'sjust elements in that movie that like you
don't catch right away. Yeah, but they're very little. Oh they're so
(33:37):
creepy though, And then she's likeon the damn ceiling. Oh no,
your neighbors like yes, watching again. Yeah, I don't know what the
fuck they're doing. Get over there. The cops like, you're gonna have
to stop calling up. Okay,we're putting you on a list. This
(33:58):
is just full of alarms. Youcan't keep doing It's okay, yeah,
nine on one. Thanks for youremergency. Please don't have this be about
Stephanie where you were. No,Stephanie, we're on our way. I'll
get right away. Thank you.Basically. See, so now that you've
had the chance to be a cheaterfor a little bit of Steph or Courtney,
(34:20):
what's your favorite scary movie? Corney? Oh my god, that is
so creepy. What is your favoritehorror movie? My favorite horror movie.
And I'm gonna have to say it, and again this could be debatable,
but Strange The Strangers. I reallyenjoyed this movie. It didn't fuck with
well, there's not a whole lotof scary movies that really fuck with me.
Um, but it's he has somethingto say please. He moved to
(34:46):
the edge of his seat. Nowthe Strangers directed The Strangers, No,
Bryan Bertino, Okay, he alsodirected The Dark and the Wicken. Stop
guys about earlier. Stop it yeahpull circle moment. Oh wow, okay,
(35:06):
Okay, So I'm gonna it's funnybecause I've told people like The Dark
and the Wicked is directed by thesame person that did The Strangers. And
then The Strangers, you have themoment of why are you doing this because
you're home? The knocking on thefucking door. Yeah, there's no reason
why I did it. You know, that's that's pure evil. You know
(35:30):
I did this because you were here. Yeah, you don't owe me anything,
You've never done me wrong in anyway. I did this because I
wanted to do this to you whenyou entered your door, right. And
there's moments like that throughout The Darkand the Wicked where you're like, wow,
that is so blunt um and it'syou will see a lot of similarities
(35:54):
in filmmaking style in score um,Like in the Straight it's the same way.
You don't have a lot of thosejump scare moments. It's just dread
extension that imagine that with a supernaturalpossession type feeling to go along with it.
(36:17):
It's not overt and in your face. Okay, the amazing part we'll
talk after the podcast because we gotto talk about it. When you said
the Strangers, I felt like thatSpongeBot me like I saw you. You're
just waiting for me to stop talkingand running my mouth because you needed to
(36:38):
go okay, gotcha, Okay,Okay. I just it's amazing how stuff
like that works because I think thatBrian Bertino is a fantastic director and writer
and the things he's done, likeThe Strangers that Darkened the Wicked. He
has a couple more projects coming outthat I'm very very excited about. Um,
and it's it's amazing for me tohear you say the Strangers. This
(36:58):
is my favorite horror movie because isThe Dark and the Wicket is my favorite
horror movie that's not House Night six. Yes, um, you know,
House is the first horror movie Iwatched. It's my favorite, but The
Dark and the Wicket affected me ona molecular level, So you know,
to hear you say the Strangers, like, I feel like Brian Burtino is
(37:20):
my actor. Because no one talksabout the dark Things away, that's mine.
I'm like, um, so,I really have had an amazing time
with you ladies. And we alwaysend this with the same question. What
we're gonna do is we're gonna bounceback to your first horror movie and we're
gonna rank this on a skull count. Now, we're not ranking it on
acting, production score, direction,we're not ranking it on anything like that.
(37:45):
What we're doing here is strictly rankingyour first horror movie on how much
it affected you on your first viewing. So last time I started with you,
Dephne, So this time I'll startwith you Courtney. Okay, you're
gonna be ranking Labyrinths zero to fiveskulls on how much it affected you on
your first viewing. I'm gonna giveit a four, like a strong four,
okay four and a half. Thething I love about it is we
(38:09):
may not be doing this today ifyou didn't watch Labyrinth when you were four
or five, six years old. That's true, it could have completely butterfly
effect changed the course of your life. So I giggled a little bit when
I asked the question because I'm prettysure Stephanie that I know the answer,
but I still got to ask, because it's in my script zero to five
skulls. What would you give Houseof wax On how much it affected you?
(38:31):
Um, like the first time Isaw it when I was like fifteen,
Oh, probably a five out offive. Yeah, definitely I got
this. I I can't leave myown house. I'm scared. I'd better
Well, you know what, Iactually do hate wax Museum. So maybe
this movie was one mining fucking hell. That's why I like scary movies.
(38:52):
Because I tiptoed into the horn God. I went to Madame Tussau's No Never
I Will go go there can walkto and she was like, hey,
this looks like courtiny. Why isthere a tear? We are at the
(39:13):
end of the third act. Thecredits are about to roll and the curtain
is about to drop. But beforethat happens, I have these amazing ladies
social media links and podcasts like downin the description. So not the episodes
over. I don't care if youflicking leave because you've already seen it,
but they make sure you're following themon social media. Make sure you're subscribing
to the podcast because it's an amazingpodcast and I can't wait to see some
(39:34):
of the things that they have comingup for us in the future, because
as horror fans, we all loveto hear what other people have to say
about the horror genre. And it'seven more fun when you have somebody that's
not a huge fan of the genre. They can go in and give you
an honest opinion about a scary moviebecause they're not gonna be biased about the
horror genre. They're gonna go in, there're gonna be a hundred percent honest
with you. It's like if youwanted me to give you my opinion about
Chinese Algebrara, that's fucking stupid.I don't understand it. You know,
(39:57):
Like they're gonna give you their honestopinion about the horror genre. And obviously
with Courtney, she's just gonna belike, this is a badass. Make
sure you are following them on socialmedia and subscribing to the podcast. Ladies,
please don't go anywhere. I havea couple more questions for you,
um everybody else as always, keeptalking horror, stay what you are and
(40:19):
we'll see you guys soon.
