Sacred space isn’t found — it’s made. In today’s hustle culture, that’s a quiet act of rebellion. This micro-episode flips the script on spiritual growth by exposing two popular myths: that time automatically matures us, and that being around truth is the same as being transformed by it. Formation doesn’t happen by osmosis; it happens through intentional, grace-filled participation.

What would happen if you made sacred space? We’re talking holy moments in ordinary places — your car, your kitchen, your evening walk. You don’t need candles or Gregorian chants (unless you’re into that). Just a pause. A breath. A simple, sacred “yes” to God’s presence. Tune out the noise long enough to hear the frequency of grace that’s been playing all along. What might shift if you made room this week?

Listen to Make Room (original version) or Make Room (new, groovy version)

Today’s Reflection Questions:

  • Where can I carve out sacred space in my week — even if just for a few minutes?
  • How can I turn an ordinary place into a sacred space, simply by becoming fully present with God?

Michele (00:00):
It's Wednesday, April 30th, and this is Today's Kus
Word.
Welcome to Today's Kus Word, where this week we are serving
up some short micro episodes, just reviewing some of the
highlights from last Friday'slonger teaching that I called
The Myth of Automatic Growth.

(00:21):
I'm Michele Kus, your spiritualgrowth coach.
Let's get into it.
Happy Wednesday.
So my friend Shelley textedinto the show the other day and
said Ooh, I love micro nuggets.
Well, thanks for the feedback,Shelley, and I love the term
micro nugget.
So let's keep going with thisweek's micro nuggets.

(00:44):
You've probably noticed a themethis week.
On Monday, we talked about howproximity to the truth does not
necessarily mean formation bythe truth, and then yesterday,
Tuesday's episode, we exploredhow time alone doesn't
necessarily mature us, but onlygrace-filled participation does.

(01:09):
So we talked about these twothings that don't necessarily
lead to our spiritual growth, proximity to the truth and the
passing of time.
So what can we do to promoteour spiritual growth?
So let's take it a step furthertoday and talk about this idea
of creating sacred space.

And here's Today's Kus Word: Sacred space isn't found, it's (01:29):
undefined
made.
So what is sacred space?
Sacred space is created anytimeyou intentionally pause to

(01:50):
become fully present with God.
It is intentionally settingyour attention and affection on
him.
So it's a moment in which youslow down and purposefully set
your gaze on him.
It could be a few minutes inyour car.

(02:12):
It could be at the kitchen sinkwhile you're washing dishes.
It could be on an evening walk,it could be in the quiet before
you go to bed.
It's any time that you say God,I am here, you're here, we're
here together, I'm listening.
And sacred space.

(02:33):
It doesn't have to be a longtime, it could just be a few
minutes.
Whatever time you have in theday and some of you don't have a
lot, I get it and it doesn'thave to be fancy.
You don't need a special candle, a special playlist.
You don't need a sanctuary orsome special prayer room,
although all of those things aregreat if you want to set them

(02:56):
up.
So here's what happens when youcarve out sacred space.
You'll start hearing Godspeaking to you.
Of course, God is alwaysspeaking to us, right?
His communication with us neverstops.

(03:16):
But sometimes we aren't tunedinto his voice.
It's like one of those oldradios where you turn the dial
and you hear static, static, static, and then boom.
All of a sudden, theannouncer's voice comes through
and becomes clear.
So creating sacred space inyour day tunes your heart like

(03:37):
that radio to the God channel, and you'll soon start hearing
his voice speaking to you.
And it could be at random times.
It might not necessarily be thetime that you're creating in
that sacred space or place, itcould just be random times, like
during a movie or while you'remaking dinner or, if you're like

(03:59):
me, while you're in the shower.
So growing up in God does nothave to be this big, complicated
thing.
It just requires a little bitof our attention and our
intention.
So in a world that runs onhurry, hustle and noise,

(04:23):
creating a sacred space isradical, it is countercultural.
It is this quiet rebellionagainst our culture of
overstimulation andoverconsumption of media and
information.
And when you create that sacredspace, you are declaring, My

(04:49):
soul, my connection with myCreator, is worth more than my
schedule.
So I have a couple of reflectionquestions for you to think
about today.

(05:10):
Where can I carve out sacredspace in my week, even if it's
just for a few minutes?
And how can I turn an ordinaryplace into a sacred space,
simply by becoming fully presentwith God?
So just a couple things for youto think about, and I know I
said earlier that you don't needa special playlist, but just to

(05:33):
inspire you, I'm going to linka song down in the show notes.
It's a song that actually cameout of our church called Make
Room, and there's a lyric inthat song that says I will make
room for you to do whatever youwant to, and I want you to let
that be your prayer today.

(05:55):
I will make room for you to dowhatever you want to.
Amen?
Amen! And that, Shelley, istoday's micro nugget.
Thanks so much for joining metoday on this quick recap
episode and I will see you againtomorrow.
