“Time Doesn't Equal Transformation” cuts through one of the most pervasive myths in our spiritual journeys — that simply getting older means we're growing more spiritually mature. Sorry, but nope!

Time doesn’t automatically grow your soul, but grace-filled participation does. In this punchy episode of Today’s Kus Word, we’re busting the myth that spiritual maturity just happens with the passing of time. Spoiler: you could have 85 trips around the sun and still be a spiritual toddler if you're not intentionally leaning into growth. Gray hair doesn't equal wisdom — and another Bible study doesn’t guarantee transformation.

In this episode, Michele walks you through why time is only a container for growth — and how purposeful, present participation with the Holy Spirit is what actually matures you. We’ll get honest about where we’ve been passive and reflect on a few questions to engage your spiritual formation this week. Ready for a reset? Dive in, get inspired, and shoot Michele a text (link’s in the show notes!) to let her know how these micro-episodes are hitting your heart!

Today’s Reflection Questions:

    • In what areas of my life have I assumed that time would do the work for me?
    • Where in my life have I been passively waiting for growth to just happen?
    • What’s one simple way that I can participate with the Holy Spirit this week in my own spiritual growth?

Michele (00:00):
It's Tuesday, April 29th, and this is Today's Kus
Word.
Welcome to Today's Kus Word, where this week we are serving
up some short micro episodes, just reviewing some of the
highlights from last Friday'slonger teaching that I called
The Myth of Automatic Growth.

(00:20):
I'm Michele Kus, your spiritualgrowth coach.
Let's get into it.
Hello, happy Tuesday.
Okay, I'm not gonna lie, Ireally like this micro learning
format.
How about you?
What do you think?
It's funny,When I started this podcast or
should I say when I restartedthe podcast my goal was to

(00:44):
create a show that was fiveminutes a day, five days a week,
because I love micro learning, and then somehow I migrated to
these longer teachings once aweek, on Fridays.
So I have like two 30 minuteteachings now up there and now
somehow I'm doing both.
So, as you can see, folks, thisshow is a work in progress and

(01:06):
we are just evolving as we go.
So thanks for coming along onthe ride with me.
Anywho, today we're continuingour short recap episodes, and
Today's Kus Word for you isthis: Time doesn't equal
transformation.
So yesterday I talked about thefact that proximity to the

(01:27):
truth does not automaticallycreate spiritual maturity, and
today I want to expand on thatidea and just remind you that
the passing of time does notautomatically create spiritual
maturity either.
So we sometimes act likespiritual growth is just
automatic, like time itself willsomehow just mature us and we

(01:52):
make another trip around the sunand we have a few more gray
hairs, and sometimes we justassume that that equals maturity
more maturity, more wisdom, more discernment but it actually
doesn't.
So you can be 85 years old andhave a head full of gray hair
and still actually be inspiritual infancy, because time

(02:16):
alone won't grow your soul.
Grace-filled participation iswhat grows your soul, and
intentional presence andcooperating with the Holy Spirit
these are the things thatactually grow us up in Christ.
So time can be a container forgrowth, but only if we show up

(02:36):
and actually participate andcooperate with what the Holy
Spirit is already doing insideof us.
So hopefully that should ringsome bells.
If you listened to last Friday'sepisode called The Myth of
Automatic Growth, that's some ofthe stuff that I touched on in
that episode, and here are a fewshort little reflection

(02:58):
questions that you can thinkabout today.
In what areas of my life have Iassumed that time would just do
the work for me?

And how about this (03:08):
Where in my life have I been passively
waiting for growth to justhappen?
And what's one simple way thatI can participate with the Holy
Spirit this week in my ownspiritual growth?

(03:29):
So just a few reflectionquestions for you today, and I
did put all three of thosequestions down in the show notes
.
If you didn't happen to catchone of them, you can scroll down
in the notes and find themthere.
And let me close us in prayer.
Heavenly Father, thank you somuch that you never rush us,

(03:49):
that you're always patient withus in our process.
But wake us up, Lord, where wehave been passive or drifting,
so that we can be fully presentin our own spiritual growth.
Remind us again that spiritualmaturity is not about aging into
faith, but it's about leaninginto you.

(04:10):
Help us to grow through graceand your presence in our lives
every day, not just through thepassing of time, but through
your active presence in ourlives.
We thank you, we love you.
We pray this in Jesus' name, amen.
Thanks so much for joining metoday on this quick recap

(04:31):
episode.
Hey, let me know what you thinkof these recaps.
Do you like them?
Are they helpful?
Send me a text message! Down inthe show notes you'll find that
link that says Text Michele.
Just text the show and let meknow what you think of these
recaps.
Should I keep doing them?
I kind of like them actually.
I think it's the teacher in me.
Anyway, have a wonderful dayand I will catch you back here

(04:53):
again tomorrow.
