BEP Narrator (00:02):
A Black
Executive Perspective.
Now presents need to know withthe award-winning hyphenated Dr.
Nsenga Burton.
Dr.
Burton, what do we need to know?
Dr. Nsenga Burton:
Good afternoon and welcometo Need To Know with Dr.
Nsenga Burton.
I am she.
And today we are talking about.
40 sevens.
Big, beautiful, ugly.
(00:22):
Bill.
Uh, as you know, there has been alot of discussion about this bill.
Um, the bill is controversial for lotsof reasons, and even republicans who
usually are in lock step with one another.
Are fighting about this bill.
One of the reasons why isbecause it's going to add 3.3
trillion to our national debt, and 47 promised not to do that.
(00:46):
Uh, it's also going to cut, um,Medicaid, um, benefits for all
types of people, including veterans.
Um, and, uh.
Food assistance and all the thingsthat happen, which is already
less than 1% of the budget.
Uh, but for some reason we haveto cut that and put billions of
dollars into the military, no moneyfor infrastructure, all the things.
(01:10):
So there's just lots and lots of problems.
Um, and then the tax cuts.
Of course, he wants to extend the 2017tax cuts that were for billionaires,
um, and to continue those, which meansthat they will pay less in taxes.
And then, as was the case the last time, which is why, I don't know why y'all
voted for this dude again, but as was thecase the last time, uh, would mean that
(01:33):
the middle class and the working poorand the lower middle class would suffer.
IE we would pay more in taxes.
So, you know, for example.
Um, 40, 47 when he was 45, I think hepaid what, less than a thousand dollars
in taxes, even though he's a billionaire.
So what you need to know isyou need to read the bill.
(01:55):
One of the things about thebill is that it is long.
So what they have done or what the, theGOP um, has tried to do and effectively
has done previously is they make edits toit and then push it through at midnight,
1:00 AM when most people are asleep.
So the next morning when you get upand they're referring to the big,
beautiful bill or whatever you thinkthey're talking about, what they
(02:15):
were talking about the day beforewhen they made changes overnight.
So you need to stay up to dateon the big beautiful bill.
Um, and I say that with so much sarcasm,I hope it's dripping into your screen.
Um, but, uh, you need toknow what's in the bill.
You need to see what's beingsneaked into the bill, what's
being cut out of the bill.
Uh, even his, uh, former, uh.
(02:39):
Collaborator.
I think that's a kind word.
I'm trying to be kind today.
Uh, Elon Musk, uh, is against thisbill, uh, because of what it will do
to the debt and some of the, what hecalls unnecessary cuts that will have
devastating effects on Americans.
So, um, think for yourself.
I have been watching, uh, YouTubetv and they have been running ads
(03:03):
from some group that is sayingthat this is all Joe Biden's fault.
Now, Joe Biden hasn't beenin office for a while, right?
It's all Joe Biden's fault, and weneed to pass this big, beautiful
bill to fix all the bad thingsthat he did when he was in office.
That would be Joe Biden.
So if you've been following anypolitics, if you've been following
(03:23):
this big, beautiful bill, you knowthat's absolutely not the case.
The big, beautiful bill is really about,uh, devastating certain communities.
Uh, it's about enriching certainindividuals who are already rich.
And it's about, um, bringing alarge part of America to its knees
(03:44):
for having the audacity to saythat this is not what we want.
Um, we don't want this.
So I'm not telling you how to vote.
I'm not telling you what to do.
I am telling you to read thebill and to share your concerns
with your Congress people.
And I also want to remind you thatyour Congress people work for you.
(04:04):
They don't work for the the president.
The Supreme Court does notwork for the president.
I know we're not saying that, butthey don't work for the president.
These are elected officials.
They work for you.
So if you have something to say aboutit, if you want them to vote a certain
way, if you don't want them to vote acertain way, you need to let them know.
You need to let them know if they do passthis bill and it's gonna be negatively
(04:25):
and it's going to negatively affect you, then they will not have your support
in the next election, in the midterms.
So that's all I got.
So what you need to know is read the bill.
Contact your Congress people.
If you, uh, are in supportof or against the bill, know
what's in it and let them know.
Remind them that they work foryou, not the other way around.
(04:47):
