Imagine the thrill of a Victory Monday as we celebrate the Jacksonville Jaguars' exhilarating win against the Indianapolis Colts, a triumph that coincided with Tom Coughlin's induction into the Pride of the Jaguars. We find ourselves questioning the current leadership despite the win, exploring the idea of a necessary shake-up in the front office. Could this be the key to securing a prosperous future for the team?

As the Jaguars continue to build momentum, we highlight the impressive offensive rhythm led by Trevor Lawrence. From smart check downs to crucial defensive plays by Travon Walker and Josh Hines-Allen, the Jaguars' recent performance showcased a team firing on all cylinders. With standout contributions from special teams, like rookie kicker Cam Little and punter Logan Cooke, we explore how this well-rounded gameplay paves a promising path forward. The episode offers an engaging analysis of how capitalizing on these improvements could transform the Jaguars' season.

Looking ahead, we delve into the potential future moves for the Jaguars, pondering draft picks like Travis Hunter to bolster their secondary. With upcoming games in London, there's an air of optimism despite current playoff concerns. We also tackle lighter topics, like a potential jersey redesign embracing the fan-favorite Prowler style, adding excitement and flair to the team's aesthetic. Whether it's strategic play or style on the field, this episode captures the spirit of the Jaguars and their journey toward a brighter future.

James Johnson and Phil Smith bring you the best and most up to date Jacksonville Jaguars news. "Touchdown Jaguars!" is a tribute to the prospective ownership group "Touchdown Jacksonville!" In 1991, the NFL announced plans to add two expansion teams and "Touchdown Jacksonville!" announced its bid for a team, and Jacksonville was ultimately chosen as one of five finalists. In November 1993, the NFL owners voted 26–2 in favor of awarding the 30th franchise to Jacksonville. James and Phil have been fans of the franchise ever since and have had the honor (and sometimes dishonor) of covering the team professionally since 2017. The rest as they say, is history.

Welcome to the Touchdown Jaguarspodcast.
Here are your hosts, jamesJohnson and Phil Smith.

(01:08):
Hey everyone, welcome back tothe Touchdown Jaguars podcast.
I am your co-host, phil Smith, and joining me, as always, is
your other co-host, jamesJohnson, and Jay, we are joining
you.
Well, we're recording here thisevening on Sunday night of
October 6th, but this episodewill be out on a victory Monday,
and it has been a very longtime since we've been able to

(01:29):
say those words here, jay, whenit comes to the Jacksonville
Jaguars.
But as hard as they tried, ashard as the defense tried to
give this game away, theJacksonville Jaguars did come
out with their first victory ofthe season here in the beginning
of October.
So you know, as you mentioned, jay, before we got started,
whenever they win, the episodespretty much write themselves,

(01:51):
and that's what's going tohappen here this evening, while
we spent the last couple ofweeks discussing the future of
the Jacksonville Jaguars, and alot of those things and a lot of
those opinions still have notchanged.
We will discuss the present ofthe team and how they will maybe
carry this momentum goingforward over the next few weeks.
So, jay, I am very happy to behere with you following a win,

(02:16):
and it should lead to a morepleasant experience for our
listeners, although we reallyappreciate y'all still sticking
around even though the teamhasn't been playing very well.
So, yeah, to discuss thisvictory here today.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
Jay, on touchdown jaguars yeah, man, what has been
since what november that we'vegotten to discuss a victory?
Uh, maybe even longer, but Ithink it's november, uh.
So, yeah, man, I'm glad thatthat we were able to get a W on
such a special occasion, right, the throwbacks they brought back

(02:48):
, the throwbacks, of course, inducted in Tom Coughlin, which
you got to see with your owneyes into the pride of the
Jaguars.
That was huge.
And you know that was kind ofwhat my mind was on was like,
man, you know, as harsh as we'vetalked about Tom Coughlin, the
front office leader we love thecoach, right and I was like man,
they can't do this on TomCoughlin's day.

(03:10):
Man, like, please, for the loveof God, don't do this on Tom
Coughlin's day, on thisnostalgic day.
And you know they were able topull it off in the end, although
, as you said, the defense triedto give it away.
I think the unique thing aboutthis win is that, as you kind of
alluded to, it really doesn'tchange a lot, you know, which is

(03:30):
kind of a good thing, you know,if you're looking forward to
the future, and when I say itdoesn't change a lot, you know
it doesn't change a lot from theperspective of you know they
still should fire Doug and Trentat the end of the year.
I put a tweet out actuallyearlier this week, saying like,
even if they were able to digthemselves out of the hole here,

(03:51):
you got to get rid of both ofthem, in my opinion.
That's not to say they will, but you got to get rid of both
of them because they alreadyshown they can't coexist with
each other.
So whatever success you hadthis year would be short term
success.
It wouldn't last.
So for that reason you wouldhave to get rid of them and also
to like it don't really itdon't really knock us out of the

(04:13):
running for the first overallpick, which would be very
valuable.
Right For us, whether you takeTravis Hunter or trade back.
Right, we know we're notprobably taking a quarterback,
but you know either of thoseoptions is pretty dope to have.
You know, especially for a newGM, if that's what we get.
And at the same time, we still, while those things are within

(04:35):
reach, we still get to celebratea victory over the Colts, a
hated division rival, and notonly that man, but we kept the
street going.
So it's been a decade sincethey've won in Jacksonville,
which is crazy to say.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
Yeah, still can't get a victory here in Duval County.
No matter what name is on thestadium, whether it's Everbank
Field, tiaa Bank Field, whoeverthe quarterback is they've tried
multiple quarterbacks, stillcan't get it done.
Even the ageless wonder that isJoe Flacco could not bring that
streak to an end.
So, yeah, jay, plenty todiscuss here this evening as we

(05:19):
dissect the Jaguars' firstvictory of the year.

But, jay, let's go ahead andjump right into business here,

(06:01):
as the Jacksonville Jaguars werevictorious over the
Indianapolis Colts to improve to1-4 on the year, 37-34 in a
shootout, a game that, at leastat one point, we were hoping was
pretty much locked away, wherethey have a 14-point lead with
about five and a half minutesleft and the Colts, and Alec
Pierce specifically, cameroaring back.

(06:23):
But let's go over the stat linehere.
Trevor Lawrence had one ofthose days that we had been
waiting for for a while 28 of 34, 371 yards.
Two touchdowns Did have.
The one interception that wascertainly forced and a mistake.
I'm sure Trevor will definitelyadmit that, especially when he
goes back and looks at it.
Tank Bigsby man, what a day fromhim, as he continues to have an

(06:46):
incredible season 13 carries,101 yards and two touchdowns,
including that 65-yard run wherehe was channeling his inner
Fred Taylor as he had a greatgame.
Travis Etienne only six carries.
He was pulled a little bitlater.
In the game we saw a lot moreDearness Johnson, so it seems
like that injury is stilllingering.
But the other big-timeperformance here rookie Brian

(07:07):
Thomas Jr.
Five catches, 122 yards and atouchdown.
That 85-yard touchdown reallygot the crowd into it.
Jay Christian Kirk also a solidday four catches, 88 yards.
Now, etienne did have sixcatches, 43 yards through the
air, so he was definitelyinvolved in the passing game as
well.

(07:28):
Defensive side of things I mean, where else do you start but
Trayvon Walker?
Three sacks, including thegame-clinching sack there at the
end on Joe Flacco.
Aventurell Miller was all overthe field today, jay, so you
know plenty to talk about interms of defensive performances,
despite the score.
But yeah, I'll just toss itover to you first.
You know what do you think ofthis performance.

(07:50):
You know we have been talkingabout.
You know how the defense hasplayed very well.
Unfortunately, that kind ofwent out the window here.
34 points against Joe Flacco inthat offense.
But yeah, what do you thinkoverall about their performance
and once again getting theirfirst dub of the year?

Speaker 2 (08:06):
What do you think overall about their performance
and once again getting theirfirst dub of the year?
Yeah, man.
Well, I think like the biggestthing that I noticed that really
helped, at least offensivelywith Trev and we kind of saw it
throughout the game, and this issomething I mentioned last week
too is just getting him in arhythm, and more so like just
taking the gimme throws Right.
It was a lot of check downs and, like you know, I don't want
Trev to become a check downCharlie or anything like that,

(08:29):
but it's too many times whenwe've seen him, you know, always
trying to make the big play andhe'll leave the smaller play on
the field, right, you know theresult in the sack, or
interception, or well, he hadn'tthrown a lot of picks this year
, but um, or incompletion, whatever the case may be, and I
think, like that was drilled inhis head this week, you know

(08:51):
it's like, hey, take some ofthose check downs, you know,
because not only do they leavean opportunity to get the first
down, but also to that gets youin a rhythm too.
You know, sometimes shortcompletions are the best
completions because you knowthey'll help you in the end get
in sync in terms of getting youryour deep ball completions

(09:12):
together, which we did, see themtake some shots down the field
as well, most notably to BrianThomas Jr.
So I think that was the biggestone.
Now, of course, you know Indywas without a lot of their star
players, right, I know they wereout deforest buckner and have
been without him for a while.
Actually I'll pull up the uminjury report here.

(09:34):
Bear with me, phil, okay, so,yep, I got it up here, of course
.
Anthony richardson, thequarterback, which that might
have helped us a little betterif he did, but that's neither
here or neither there.
Kenny Moore, cornerback, who wetalked about before here from
the 229 area.
Jonathan Taylor was out.

(09:54):
Quiddie Paye was out.
So you know, that's just a fewguys, to name a few.
Ryan Kelly, the starting center, but at the same time, like you
know, we can sit here and talkabout the injuries, but we
shouldn't take anything awayfrom the Jacksonville Jaguars
for the simple fact that this isa league where you know nobody
cares how injured you are.
At least the other team does itRight.

(10:15):
And we kind of talked about itwith us when we went on that
what five game skid last year oflosses and kind of trickled
into this year.
Nobody cares when you'reinjured, right?
So let's apply that same energyto this situation here with the
Jacksonville Jaguars, and youknow, being able to get the
victory.
And look, sometimes what ittakes is, you know, you to win

(10:38):
against a team that was a littlebit beat up, that gives you
momentum to maybe beat a teamthat's better down the road, and
that trickles into another win,and another win, and another
win, and next thing, you know, you're competing with the best
in the AFC South, or the AFC ingeneral, and the NFC.
So this is a win they cancertainly build on.

(10:59):
Nonetheless, as you said, phil, and in terms of the defensive
side of the ball man, just, itlooked like pretty much for the
most part, that the Colts wereable to, you know, make plays at
will.
They missed a few, you know, and most notably, some of those
plays were due to Trayvon andJosh Allen being able to apply

(11:21):
the pressure that was needed.
As you said, trayvon had amonster day, man.
He probably literally and I wasjoking about this on Twitter
maybe he saw those AidenHutchinson tweets that everybody
had been putting out, but whata game he had, what a game Josh
Allen had, they made one crucialplay.
While that defense did get tornthrough like paper mache for

(11:44):
the most part, they did makethose key plays, that kind of
swung the momentum in the favorof the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Of course, the sack that youmentioned at the end of the game
, but most notably that play atthe end of the second quarter
where Josh Allen or was itTrayvon that got the strip and
Josh Allen picked it up, leftabout five seconds on the clock,

(12:07):
got us a field goal.
You know, so you know whenyou're searching for the answers
, a field goal here and there, that those little things help
Right, and those fumbles thatyou recover to get you some
points on the board and get yousome momentum help.
And you know, at the end of theday it was a game Doug put it
best in his press conference Atthe end of the day it was a game

(12:28):
where every side of the ball, especially the offensive side,
but every side of the ball didtheir part in terms of bringing
a complimentary play into themix, right, whether it was the
play we just mentioned ondefense, with Trayvon and Josh,
trevor, lawrence and BrianThomas Jr linking up, or Tank

(12:49):
Bigsby, you know, taking oneback.
And then, on the special teamside of the ball, cam Little,
the rookie very promising rookie, might I add coming through for
the team when they needed himthe most.
Him coming through, and LoganCook, you know, helping with the
battle of positioning on thefield as well, which we've
already said.
Like, logan Cook to us is likean all pro, if not I mean a pro

(13:10):
bowler, if not all pro.
So it was a complimentary gamewhere every team, at every side,
at least brought some kind ofcontribution, key contribution,
to the game, and the result wasthis victory on this very
special day for the Jaguarsno-transcript.

Speaker 1 (13:53):
So yeah, special teams in general.
We talked about it in thebeginning of the year kind of
like jokingly but also serious.
This has the potential to bethe best special teams in the
league and that was on displayhere today between Duvernay,
logan Cook and then, of course, the rookie coming in at the end,
cam Little, and nailing thegame winner Three for three

(14:17):
overall.
So he has been outstanding.
Yeah, it was great to see A lotof fun, obviously, at the
stadium.
You know I texted you guys inthe group chat before the game
and told you like this is likethe least enthusiastic I've been
about being here, and you knowthat's what happens when you
start 0-4.
The weather wasn't great andyou just hope, like you alluded

(14:37):
to, that they don't embarrassthemselves not only in front of
you know, tom Coughlin, but alsoin these jerseys, with the
field looking the way that itdoes, and I mean everything
aesthetically was just on pointfor the team.
So one thing I was trying notto be like a, you know, a trying
not to live in this timeline.

(14:58):
On my way out I was talking toour buddy, eric, as we were
leaving the stadium, but likethere is a reality in which this
team is four and one right.
I think you can probably throwthe Buffalo game out of there,
but every other game they'vebeen competitive and just one
thing or another went wrong.
One thing that obviously wentvery right is Trevor was hitting
those passes that he wasmissing last week to BTJ and

(15:20):
Christian Kirk specifically.
Yeah, you know you talk aboutthe big day that Trayvon Walker
had the forced fumble, the sackat the end, another sack there
in the middle of the game.
It all came together, man anduh.
You know, while you don't wantto see your team give up 34
points and also you don't wantto see your team blow a 14 point
lead with under six minutes togo, they were poised and they

(15:42):
kept it together and they didn'tlet this thing completely, you
know, slip out of their hands.
And you know you feel relativelygood with some of the names
that are also going to get backhere pretty soon Evan Ingram,
tyson Campbell we might see inwhat the second London game, as
well as some of the Dewey comingback as well.
I never thought I would saythat, but you know Andrew

(16:03):
Wingard out there plays a very, very significant role.
So how are you feeling rightnow?
What's the outlook?
You know one in four headinginto two London games.
We know how things go.
How are you feeling goingforward here at this point?
Not totally similar to lastyear, but remember this is where
things started to turn around, right before the London trip,
and then they came home andrattled off a few wins.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
Well, not to be that person in terms of veering into
the future, but it looks likethat.
You know.
That's what a lot of the focusthis year is going to be on this
.
Looking towards the future,though.
Real quick, phil.
I do want to say this this gamewas very telling of I kind of
had this conversation on twitter, right, it's very telling of.
The jags probably need TravisHunter the cornerback.

(16:50):
Well, I mean, hell, they couldprobably use Travis Hunter the
receiver too, but they coulddefinitely use Travis Hunter the
cornerback, who always seems tobe around the ball, and this
game really showed us that.
Because, coming into the season, right, remember, a lot of us
were confident in the secondaryand then, of course, tyson got
hurt, savage missed some games.

(17:10):
So, for that reason, like, as Iwas watching that game, I was
like you know what, if theystumble on the number one pick
or you know something close tothe top five, they absolutely
should be looking at TravisHunter, if you know if that
happens, because this secondaryabsolutely could use him.
Now, yeah, in terms ofanswering your question about

(17:30):
you know if that happens, because this secondary
absolutely could use him.
Now, yeah, in terms ofanswering your question about
you know how I feel about goingforward.
You know me and you kind ofhave had this conversation in
the thread with Boogie and Vez.
But you know they're coming upon two London games where you
know the opposition.
They aren't used to makingthose trips routinely, so I

(17:51):
always circle the two Londongames as two wins.
Even with them struggling, it'snot out of the realm of
possibility that that could betwo wins.
Now, does that change theprojection of the future and
should that give people hopeabout them going to the playoffs
?
I would say no, probably, butnonetheless I do think those are

(18:12):
two winnable games.
Now the Bears are coming off agame in which they look dominant
, but they were playing thePanthers right.
So what can we take from thatreally?
And of course, the Patriots.
There was that report whichmight have been a little
exaggerated, about the Patriotsand them going through a mutiny
in their locker room.
But I will say this you knowwhether they're together or

(18:35):
cohesive or not, they don'texactly scare me.
You know what I'm saying Interms of a team that you know we
should be feeling that theJaguars can't take on or defeat
for that matter.
But yeah, I mean like I don'tfeel bad about the London games.
Again, I don't know that thisteam is a playoff team.

(18:58):
I don't.
I doubt it, you know.
But I don't feel bad aboutthese London games just because
we're used to it and you know.
It's just a situation thatwe've gone through many, many
times and they haven't.

Speaker 1 (19:12):
Yeah, I just think it's going to be really
difficult if you're not maybe inthe top three to get Travis
Hunter.
So you're going to have to hopethat one of the teams there,
maybe at one or two, needs aquarterback, and I'm not privy
to who the quarterback optionsare for the upcoming draft.
So forgive me, but you know, from what I know, travis Hunter

(19:34):
is, you know what everyone'sgoing to be looking at, and
obviously New England, uh, therewere.
You know a report came outsaying New England is, that's
their coveted prize is TravisHunter, to pair him up with
Drake May.
And, uh, you know they thinkthey can quote-unquote dominate
or something, something alongthose lines.
As far as the quote Cincinnatiis also one in four, you know
their team think they can quoteunquote dominate or something,
something along those lines.
As far as the quote Cincinnatiis also one in four, you know
their team obviously does notneed a quarterback.

(19:54):
The Rams at one in four, youknow what are they going to be
doing.
Cleveland also not having agood season.
And then you know there'salways Carolina.
Now, to kind of veer thisdiscussion back into, you know,
um, an area we don't usuallydiscuss.
You know there were thosequotes out there from deon

(20:15):
sanders saying I know he wastalking about shador, but travis
hunter, like, is he gonna wantto go to carolina now?
Listen and shout out to boogiewho, uh, you know your nephew,
college football extraordinaire,or at least so he thinks.
Uh, travis hunter isn't in thesame mindset of, from what I
understand.
Understand of.
I'm not going to go here, butI'll tell you what if Carolina
ends up with the number one pick, I would say, hey, maybe you

(20:38):
tell your agent to let them knowI ain't coming to Carolina.
With all due respect toCarolina they are our expansion
brother but with the way thatteam is right now and that owner
, I wouldn't want to go there,absolutely not.
So, yeah, I think it's justgoing to be really tough and I
don't know they're going to bebad enough to be the number one
overall pick.

(20:59):
But hey, there's still a wholelot of football left to play.
But yeah, a guy like TravisHunter, pairing him with the
guys we have now, and the corethat we have now, jay, when, and
the core that we have now, jay, when you talk about the future,
when you think, thinking aboutTank Bigsby we talked about him
last week and Ventro Miller, nowBrian Thomas Jr.
Like could you imagine what aguy like Travis Hunter could do
in this offense?

(21:19):
You know, whenever they bringin, of course, the new head
coach as well as the newoffensive coordinator.
So it is tough not to lookforward and it feels great to
win.
And you know you're talkingabout coming back from London at
three and four.
You know who knows what thelandscape of the draft order is
going to look like at that time.
You know, certainly don'texpect Carolina to rattle off
any wins anytime soon.

(21:40):
The Patriots look bad.
Cincinnati, even though theyhave all the talent in the world
, can't get out of their own wayas well.
So who knows?
It's going to be an interestingrace for the number one overall
pick.
But let me ask you this here, jay, because I just looked it up
as far as rookie of the yearodds.
Now it's going to be almostimpossible because of the way

(22:02):
that Jaden Daniels is playing.
Malik Neighbors is hurt rightnow.
Marvin Harrison Jr, I believe,is.
I know he had a couple biggames earlier in the year, not
sure how he played today.
Okay, two catches, 36 yards.
So rookie of the year odds, Imean, is right now Brian Thomas
Jr has to be second right behindJaden Daniels.

(22:24):
It's going to be again a reallytall task to get more votes
than the quarterback, but whatwe've seen, man, I think he's
got to be right up there, bareminimum top three right oh yeah,
I would say top two.

Speaker 2 (22:37):
I mean I, you know you can make the argument top
three if you want to throwneighbors in there, but all it
is Trevor Lawrence hate, right, and how people just say he's
terrible, not our fan base, butothers like that should make the
case for Brian Thomas, right, you would think.
But it don't work like thatwhen it comes to a Jag winning
anything.
But I'm just saying, like youknow, for those people, the same

(23:00):
people who have that energythat Trevor Lawrence is not good
, should apply that energy tohelp.
You know, to say that with aBrian Thomas Jr's odds but yeah,
you read my mind there, becausethat's what I was going to
actually send you in the chatwas these rookie of the year
odds.
But yeah, I would certainly puthim at second man.
But yeah, it is hard to beatthe quarterback In this case

(23:21):
it's Jaden Daniels.
But it's just kind of hard tooutnotch a quarterback in that
particular situation.
A quarterback that's playingwell, right, like you know, when
CJ Hendricks, cj Str.
That particular situation, aquarterback that's playing well,
right, like you know, when CJStroud was playing well, and you
know we've seen other rookiequarterbacks kind of play well
and it's just kind of hard topry that from them unless they

(23:41):
just take like a turn for theworse in terms of their play.
But yeah, you got to think theywould give it to Jaden Daniels,
and he's on a bigger platformin terms of just the market he's
in too, so that'll probablyhelp him.
And I mean, to his credit, man,he's playing great football.
I always liked the kid to behonest with you, but he's
playing some great football.
I think the more uniqueconversation is it looks like

(24:07):
the race is going to come downto like.
We just mentioned three, thetop three options.
Well, I would think you gotneighbors in the top three
options as well.
Three LSU guys Crazy that theyall play together right.

Speaker 1 (24:19):
Yeah, and you know what's like crazy as well is
that I'm a very pretty muchcasual college football fan when
it comes to any type offootball outside of Texas, and I
didn't watch really any LSUfootball last year and you know,
whenever they're not like rightthere in terms of like the
playoff conversation, like I'mjust not paying attention to
those teams.

(24:39):
So the fact that those threewere together and you know,
shout out to those Arizona Stateteammates, right, jay, that
viral video when Jaden Danielstransferred from Arizona State
to LSU, and you know where areany of those guys now.
And you know I also am a fan ofhim and just always heard
really, really great thingsabout his attitude, about his

(25:00):
leadership, and I said this onTwitter over the offseason the
commanders are a sneaky pick towin that division.
The commanders and I mean theEagles and the Cowboys are just
a complete mess, even whenthey're winning, they can't get
out of their own way.
So, yeah, shout out to JaneDaniels, man, I'm happy for what
they're doing, and that fanbase obviously went through a

(25:20):
whole lot.
Hopefully they can get a betterstadium out there in, uh, in DC
.
But yeah, it is going to be nearimpossible to outdo the
quarterback, barring any kind ofinjury.
But yeah, monique Nabors woulddefinitely be there.
He is hurt right now, like Imentioned, but right now sitting
at 35 catches, 386 yards, threetouchdowns.

(25:43):
He had that 12 catchperformance a couple weeks ago
against the Cowboys.
Btj, currently on the year, 22catches, 397 yards and three
touchdowns.
There should definitely be moreand those statistics will
definitely go higher, muchhigher, as the season goes on.
But yeah, it's nice to see thatthey have seemingly struck gold
with this pick, and I think itwas maybe I didn't watch the

(26:07):
whole clip, but I think it wasmaybe Hacker on the radio
talking about hey, shout out tothe Titans for giving all that
money to Calvin Ridley.
Right, I don't know if BTJ wasstill going to be the pick
regardless.
You probably say not.
But hey, tennessee, I hopeyou're enjoying Calvin Ridley
right now.
Let me see what Rid's stats arefor the year Nine catches, 141

(26:28):
yards and a touchdown.
So hey, he's all yours.

Speaker 2 (26:31):
Tennessee, uh, shout out to rid for getting the money
yeah, and I'll be the first toadmit, phil, we were mad when we
lost ridley right and um, Imean.
Well, at the same time, we werehappy with drafting brian
thomas jr too, though.
So I can remember when we wentto the draft party you know me
and you said it flat out likefor as harsh as we've been to

(26:52):
this team about their draftdecisions and stuff like we'll
never complain about, likegetting Trevor Lawrence weapons,
so we were happy with thatdecision.
But at the same time we wereticked off with the really
situation.
But hey, man, leave it to theTitans.
To, you know, save us fromhaving a season that's even
worse.
The Titans, to you know, saveus from having a season that's
even worse.
Just imagine if we spent thatpick somewhere else, right On

(27:13):
top of the 0-4 start that we had.
We'd probably be, you know, having some words about that
rookie that whoever we draftedthat wasn't Brian Thomas Jr.
We'd be having some words abouthim and how that was a poor
decision too.
So shout-outs to the Titans forsaving us from or forcing us to
make, forcing Trent Baalke, especially, to make a good

(27:34):
decision, one that he routinelyhasn't made because we talked
about it.
Right, phil.
His history with draftingreceivers is just terrible, but
the Titans have helped veer himin the right direction and now
we got, you know, the arguably, dare I say, the best you know,
one of the top.
What three deep threats infootball right now.

(27:56):
So you know, that's a uniquething to have, especially in a
time where defensive play is upthis year right, never thought
I'd say that, but defensive playis up and trending upwards and,
you know, offensive play iskind of trickling down a little
bit, which I like that's goodfor the game.
Um, not that I have a problemwith it, but, yeah, man shout

(28:17):
outs to them and uh, yeah, man,in terms of btj and what you
were saying about, uh, jaydendaniels, and saying that you
were a casual.
But think about this though, phil when you know me and you or
you watched them individually, when you watch BTJ, in those
individual games that we watchedand that we went over when we

(28:37):
drafted them, and before wedrafted them, you couldn't help
but notice who was throwing inthe ball, which was Jaden
Daniels, who you know he wasmaking some plays himself.
I guess, like when you look atthat LSU offense though of
course neighbors stood out themost.
But every time I watch BTJ onfilm before and after we drafted
him you know you couldn't helpbut look at Jaden Daniels and

(28:59):
say like it's something abouthim, like he has a skill set
that can translate to the NFLand you know he can make some
noise for a franchise.
He can get a franchise, youknow, out of the dump.
So that's exactly what he'sdoing.
I'm happy for Washington fans, man, Like they deserve it
because they've been through somuch and you know the years of
under Dan Snyder man likeprobably took years off of

(29:22):
people's lives.
Man Like watching him run afootball organization and the
mess they had going on.
So yeah, man, he's been likehe's so fun to watch.
He's raining dimes in thatstadium while the station has
been raining sewage on people.
So he's been a bright spot forthem this year and I can't wait
to see what the future holds for.

Speaker 1 (29:43):
Yeah, and you know, obviously we are near the top of
the list in terms of TrentBulkey detractors, like I said
in the beginning of the episode.
In terms of replacements, likewe talked about two weeks ago,
none of that has changed, but weare seeing instant impact from
some of these draft picks, right, brian Thomas Jr, jerrion Jones
, cam Little.
We're seeing those guys come inand contribute right away,

(30:06):
which is great and, you know, anice breath of fresh air here in
terms of the draft class.

Speaker 2 (30:15):
Yeah, as you said, we are his biggest haters.
But yeah, one thing I also sayabout him too is you look at
that class from last year, that2023 class, and what they
brought to this game.
And it's kind of deja vubecause we were talking about
this last year.
Phil, remember when we playedthe Colts last year?
I think it was the first gameof the season and it was Brenton

(30:36):
Strange and Tank Bigsby whomade a key play in that game,
Although that one was inIndianapolis, but they made a
key play in that game.
Do you remember the play?
They were on goal line andBrenton Strange missed his block
and the man that he wasassigned to block actually

(30:59):
stopped Tank Bigsby in thebackground.
So Brenton Strange loopedaround, grabbed Tank Bigsby and
drug him in the end zone andhelped him get into the end zone
, kind of like Ezra Clevelanddid today, and they was drugging
him in the end zone today.
But what I'm saying is the dejavu all over again.

(31:20):
Those two, brenton Strange andTank Bigsby, were two of the
guys that made plays for ustoday.
So you know, for as much as wecook Trent on here, I'll give
him that Like two of his guysfrom last year's class that
people wanted to fire into thesun stepped up big today.
We'll see if they can continuethat, because we're going to

(31:40):
need them these next few weeksto, you know, maybe get a win
streak going.

Speaker 1 (31:44):
Yeah, you're absolutely right, and there was
a thread I can't remember, man,I wish I had it here in front of
me from last week wheresomebody was breaking down
Bretton Strange film and he isputting it together, man, and
listen.
We definitely need Evan Ingramback in the worst way.
That is 100% true, but BrentonStrange is slowly figuring it

(32:05):
out.
We talked about this, you know, over the last few years where
people have been wanting to mocka tight end to the Jaguars.
They take time players that aresure things right, like Kyle
Pitts.
It just doesn't work like that, really, with tight ends.
I'm not sure what kind ofseason Brock Bowers is having,
but I know the Raiders have beena little up and down.
But, yeah, brent, shout out toTravis Etienne, you know, in the

(32:26):
locker room Praising his guyTank, it seems like.
You know, obviously, after awin, everybody feels a whole lot

(32:47):
better.
You know, really happy for thathuge performance from Trayvon
Walker.
I believe he was the honorarycaptain for today's game as well
and, yeah, it looked great.
But, jay, before we wrap up, Iwould be remiss if we didn't
discuss this, because it hasbeen the talk of not only Jaguar
Twitter but just NFL Twitter ingeneral.

(33:07):
These jerseys got to be thepermanent look going forward,
right.
Obviously, it can't be for thisseason, but next year.
I believe they are up for achange in terms of their jerseys
and their primaries and you gotto go with some form of this,
right.
I don't think you necessarilyneed to go with the throwback
logo that you don't have to gothat far but in terms of the

(33:27):
look that they had on today, itjust feels different, right, and
I think it was early in thepregame.
It might have been Brian Sextontalking about.
You know, when it rains andthose jerseys get wet and it
becomes like a really deep tealand that's just like a top tier
look in the NFL.
I'm going to go out and say onthe limb and say in NFL history,

(33:50):
so they got to go with someform of the Prowler jersey as
their primary going forward,right?
They cannot roll out someboring shade of teal like they
have over the last few years interms of their primary jerseys.
They got to go with somethingalong the lines of what they put
out there today, right?

Speaker 2 (34:09):
yeah, I mean what I will say is like, in terms of
the, the throwbacks and prowlerjerseys, I'm kind of with what
you said last week.
I kind of like the fact that weonly bring them.
You know, heading forward, wewould only bring them out for
special occasions, like I think, like they hold a special place
in our heart, so they should bebrought out for special
occasions.
We shouldn't like thoseshouldn't be like an everyday

(34:31):
thing.
Now, if you're saying likemaybe get something that mocks
that, yeah, of course, like theyshould definitely go with that.
Look, I mean, I remember whenwe had that conversation.
I think you know that theiteration of the show at that
time, when we got the jerseysthat we have now, was the Jags,
and you know that's when we werewith our buddy, jacob DeLoren

(34:52):
Shout outs to him.
Know, the issue with the jerseyswas, you know we were saying
that tom coughlin, just it lookslike nike just gave tom
coughlin a blank teal jerseyslate and said, hey, what do you
want to add to this?
And you, you, I think you saidsomething along the lines and
I'm just paraphrasing herethat's fine, just the way it is.

(35:14):
Just add the numbers and add ajab and it feels like that's
what.
Like you know, whoever whetherit was tom coughley, whoever it
was um shot khan, whoever was incharge of designing that jersey
or at least giving some insighton the current jerseys it felt
like that's what it was.
It was a blank slate that theyjust said, hey, put some numbers

(35:34):
on it, put the logo on there, and we're good and we're golden.
But yeah, I do think, like theydo need to follow the format of
the throwbacks in some way, shape or form, and I mean I
think Nike will be open to that.
Like you know, they're alwaysopen to what will make them
money and clearly this wouldmake them money because, like I

(35:56):
mean, we were just talking aboutit, I ordered a Fred Taylor
throwback and you know, theybasically declined it because
after a few months they ran out.
So obviously these are sellingwell.
Obviously, that's somethingNike should look at and probably
will look at statistically whenthey run the numbers of how
they're selling.
And I can't wait to see whatthe jaguars do or what they're

(36:20):
thinking in terms of, you know, their jerseys of the future.

Speaker 1 (36:24):
But I'm cool with leaving the throwbacks as an
occasional thing, uh, each yearyeah, I agree, I just, whatever
that, whatever results in themrolling out the teal more.
You know they have one of themost unique colors in terms of
their primary color in all offootball.
And what was it like on mondaynight football they were wearing
, you know, white and black.

(36:45):
You know, why aren't there tealpants?
Why aren't we rolling that outthere?
Uh, you know, in a couple weeks, against minnesota, they're
going to have the white helmets, but you know they can't wear
the all white jerseys, unfortunately, due to a stupid
nfl rule.
You know, so all of thatdoesn't make any sense.
But whatever the next designhas to be, they need to look
really hard at the Prowlerdesign and make them as unique

(37:06):
as possible, because that tealcolor, man, it just, it just
feels different.
You feel better about how theylook on the field and, if
anything, if they're going toget, if they're going to get
rolled on the field, at leastthey got.
They can look good in thesejerseys, right, so go ahead, jay
.

Speaker 2 (37:20):
Yeah, I mean one more thing.
I'd be interested in gettingthose all-black throwbacks going
.

Speaker 1 (37:29):
Oh yeah, for sure.

Speaker 2 (37:29):
Yeah, like that's what they should be having a
discussion about.
It's like when are you knowlike bringing those back in?
When would be a good time toroll those out?
Like what occasion should weroll those out for?
I mean, nothing comes to mindin terms of like a special
occasion that's coming in thefuture, maybe I don't know, like
maybe when nah, that's too faraway.

(37:50):
I was about to say maybe whenthe stadium opens, but that's
like four or five years out.
So disregard that.
But I would bring those out fora special occasion out.
So disregard that, but I wouldbring those out for a special
occasion that all black look manI I have crazy memories of
Maurice Jones drew running overpeople in those throwbacks, and
Fred Taylor too, and so that'ssomething that I'm interested in

(38:11):
as well that they haven'treally discussed or talked about
, at least not on social media,or we haven't heard anything in
terms of on the internet aboutthe Jaguars, like maybe rolling
those out.

Speaker 1 (38:26):
Yeah, I had a black Byron Leftwich jersey and I
think a Reggie Nelson, if Iremember correctly.
Shout out to the person in mysection today that had a black
Fred Taylor jersey on.
Yeah, everybody in theirthrowback stuff looked great
today, and not only the Prowlerjerseys that were out today.
You know a lot of classicjerseys.

(38:46):
I wore my David Garrard jerseytoday.
So, yeah, man, it was a fun dayall around, even though it did
get a little stressful theretowards the end.
But the last thing I'll say onthe jerseys is there are just
too many talented people outthere on social media, jay, you
know, shout out to those graphicdesigners that can cook up
these incredible mocks in termsof jerseys for them to come out

(39:09):
with something as plain as thecurrent look is now, and so
that's what I'll say.
So, nike, jacksonville, dowhatever you have to doire
somebody.
Get some concept work goingfrom some of these content
creators, do some sort of groupstudy and bring people in about
what they want and what theydon't want.

(39:29):
We definitely want to see moreteal and more unique designs
here in Jacksonville.
But, jay, anything else youwant to mention, you know from
this game, as we, you know, coming up on the 45 minute mark.
They got that trip to Londoncoming up, and I mentioned
earlier the players that aregoing to be hopefully making
their return here shortly to theroster.
So you know, barring any futureinjuries, knock on wood, the

(39:52):
roster is going to get strongerand you certainly want to see
that heading into your tripoverseas.
So anything else you want tomention or discuss before we
wrap up for the week?

Speaker 2 (40:03):
No, nothing else to really add, aside from it would
be nice if the team sponsored usa trip to London for two weeks,
and you know we can cover theteam from London.
But aside from that, man, I'mnot sure if I'm excited about
the next two weeks or not, because you never know what
you're getting with this team.
But we have some interestinggames coming up, to say the

(40:26):
least.
And yeah, man, I'm just glad wecould soak in a win for a
change and get a people you knowa positive conversation for a
change.

Speaker 1 (40:35):
Absolutely so.
Enjoy your victory, monday,duvall.
You have earned it and we'llsee how the team responds.
Will they continue to carrythis positive momentum into the
london games?
Hopefully, as we definitelywant to deliver more positive
