Is “structured,” “ionized,” or “hydrogen-infused” water the next big thing—or just hype? In this episode of The Toxic Truth About Water, Drs. Glenn and Ina explore the growing trend of “specialty waters.” They discuss their potential to enhance hydration, boost antioxidants, and support performance—but also why no fancy gadget can substitute for starting with clean, contaminant-free water. Tune in to learn what really matters before investing in the latest water technology.

What You’ll Learn

  • Restructured Water Basics: Vortexing, magnetization, and other methods that claim to improve water’s molecular structure.
  • Ionized & Alkaline Water: How electrolysis affects water’s pH and the possible antioxidant benefits.
  • Hydrogen Water Buzz: Why hydrogen infusion is hailed for reducing inflammation and enhancing performance.
  • The Non-Negotiable: Why filtration comes first—removing contaminants is essential before chasing specialty water solutions.

Key Takeaways

  1. Biohacking Potential: These specialty waters aim to boost hydration and offer antioxidant perks—but they’re only effective if your water is already clean.
  2. Controversial Claims: Not everyone agrees on the science behind “structured” or “ionized” water, so do your research before investing in gadgets.
  3. Contaminants First: PFAS, heavy metals, and other toxins must be filtered out; enhancements won’t matter if the water itself isn’t pure.
  4. Stay Tuned: Future episodes will cover filtration methods, new vs. old technologies, and how to truly safeguard your home’s water supply.

Glenn (00:00):
Welcome to the Toxic Truth About Water.
We're Drs.
Glenn and Ina, and in thispodcast, we're uncovering the
hidden dangers lurking in yourwater and how those contaminants
impact your health.

Ina (00:11):
After decades of exploring natural health, we've learned
the importance of clean, safewater, and we're here to share
that knowledge with all of you.
So let's dive in.

Glenn (00:23):
All right, let's dive in by starting with what we've been
talking about in the pastepisodes.
We've been covering what's inour water, things to look out
for, how they affect us.

Ina (00:34):
the concerns that all of us should have and just the
awareness of what we're allbeing exposed to.

Glenn (00:40):
So now though, we're going to take a slight shift.
We're going to move into whatpeople are doing to enhance the
water.

Ina (00:48):
So there's like a broad term and it's becoming.
popular.
It's unbelievable how popularspecialty waters have become.
And it's pretty cool because, listen, we're all looking for,
biohacks, right?
How can we do more things toenhance our health?
our vitality, our longevity, andif it's something we can do to

(01:13):
our water to make it moreabsorbable, to give us various
health benefits, then why not?
As long as it's not harmful, first do no harm then we're all
about it.
So we just wanted to taketoday's episode to explore some
of these different specialtywaters, share some of the
benefits, and really, what youmay want to at least be aware of
regarding this topic.

(01:34):
So let's go.

Glenn (01:36):
right.
So let's start with general, restructured water.
The idea here when people hearthat term restructured water is
actually looking at the way themolecules in the water.
are clustered or held togetherand different things that you
can do to change the way thosebonds are make the water

(01:58):
potentially more absorbable tothe cells, therefore literally
more hydrating

Ina (02:03):
Exactly.
So the bottom line with water, and we talked about this, in the
very beginning and will continueto emphasize the importance of
proper hydration and how much ofour body is made up of water and
we need to be hydrating in orderto have optimal detoxification
and blood flow and like all theprocesses in our body require

(02:26):
proper hydration, but justdrinking water in and of itself
isn't necessarily the answer.
Absolutely.
ensuring proper hydration.
So this type of specialty water, the benefit is that perhaps it's
more hydrating.
It's actually getting into thecell in a more effective and
efficient way.

Glenn (02:46):
some of the methods for creating structured water are
simple Some of them happennaturally, and that's how I
think these things have gottendiscovered in areas where maybe,
but things like a waterfall thatmight create as the water is
coming down like a vortex, maybesomething the way the rocks are
formed, cause that water to spinin a circular motion as it goes

(03:06):
down, vortexing water.
actually appears to increasehydration or change the
structure of water.
That's one way.

Ina (03:15):
So does magnetizing.

Glenn (03:17):
magnets.
That's become hot.
Minerals are metals and they canbe magnetic.
They have a charge,

Ina (03:23):
which is really, important to understand.
And then certainly electrolysisis another way.
So the benefits of restructuredwater in general, obviously, it
enhances hydration.
We all have this innate, amazingdetoxification system already
set up.
We were born that way.
However, we want it to workoptimally.

(03:44):
We want it to be able to get thetoxins out, but we have to
hydrate properly in order forthe detox system to work at its
best, at its most effective way.
So increased detoxification is abenefit.
So is better energy andvitality, which we're all
looking for, obviously.
So let's talk about another typeof specialty water, which is

(04:08):
ionized water.

Glenn (04:09):
Ionized water has been treated with a device called an
ionizer, which is simply usingelectrolysis, running
electricity through water toseparate it.
And what it does is it separatesinto the acidic areas.
Where we have acidic based pHwater and base pH water

Ina (04:26):
so it's more alkaline.
It's either more hydrogen ionsor more hydroxide ions to change
it, like you said, from, moreacidic or more alkaline.
The alkaline water is oftenreferred to as ionized water,
and it is thought to havesuperior.
properties in terms ofantioxidants and its potential
health benefits.
So the antioxidant aspect of itis the claim to fame rich in

(04:51):
antioxidants due to its higherconcentration of hydrogen ions.
And antioxidants, as many of usknow, neutralize free radicals,
which reduce oxidative stress.
Oxidative stress is what'sleading to disease, premature
aging,

Glenn (05:07):
inflammation, and cancer,

Ina (05:08):
all the things that we're trying to avoid and reverse.
The question

Glenn (05:11):
what happens at that point?

Ina (05:13):
All kinds of improvement, in terms of more energy,
healthier body in general, sowe're not here to debate, like
we lean towards the side ofbeneficial in terms of,

Glenn (05:24):
There's nothing So you win either way.

Ina (05:27):
right so alkalized water it has a higher ph than regular Tap
water,

Glenn (05:32):
which is neutral.

Ina (05:33):
so alkalized water is going to have a higher ph and with
that We're going to have abetter acid base balance,
improved hydration, improveddetoxification.
So a lot of these specialtywaters overlap in their
benefits.

Glenn (05:48):
They take the basic benefits of water and enhance
them.

Ina (05:52):
So we talked about, the restructured water, the ionized
water, alkalized water, and thenthere's also hydrogen.

Glenn (05:58):
It seems like everybody's walking around with their water
bottles.
You've probably seen them withthe blue lights.
And I know there's oneparticular company that's really
popular.
so again, people are puttingtheir water in these Glass
containers and then thecontainers pump hydrogen into
the water,

Ina (06:14):
They're infused.
So the hydrogen water isactually infused with molecular
hydrogen Which offers a uniqueset of potential health benefits
So again, we talked about theantioxidants so similar here
that it's going to produce avery powerful antioxidant
effect, which is really what wewant for sure.

(06:37):
aside from the antioxidantpower, we're also looking at
reduced inflammation, improvedexercise performance.
a lot of athletes and fitnessprofessionals swear by the
difference with hydrogen waterenhance mental clarity and
focus.
But again, remember properhydration will do all this.
This is just enhancing it.

(06:58):
It's taking it to, anotherlevel.
So all of these specialtywaters, and again,
controversial, you'll hear bothsides of, Oh, it's great.
Save your money.
So we definitely believe thatthere's a lot of benefit to all
of these specialty waters, buthere's what we really want to
emphasize.
So there are different.

(07:20):
Machines that you can purchase,to create, enhance the water,
vortexers

Glenn (07:26):
that,

Ina (07:26):
It's actually this giant business.
And we're sure, that some ofthese machines and some of these
tools are better than othersQuality, there's third party
testing, there's more legit, less legit, So we have to weed
through all that but the bottomline and what we really want to

(07:48):
emphasize is no matter what Theclaim is first and foremost the
water that we're going to taketo become a specialty water
needs to be Free of contaminantin order to truly get the health
benefit ultimately right

Glenn (08:07):
All of the devices and, techniques or systems that
enhance water don't necessarilyinclude filtration at all.

Ina (08:17):
But we're talking about really making sure that All the
forever chemicals are gone, andthe microplastics, and the
biological contaminants.
Anything in the water that couldtax your body, that could stress
your body, we need to ensurethat's not there before we're
trying to take it to the nextlevel of creating these.

(08:39):
wonderful potential healthbenefits, If you're going to
invest in one of these machinesor devices, you really want to
think with having your wholehouse.
Filtered down to the point whereyou can have the peace of mind
moving forward.
And remember, it's not just whatwe're drinking and cooking with,

(09:02):
but what are we brushing ourteeth with, what are we bathing
with, showering in.
All of that makes a difference.
But again, so important to makesure the contaminants are out
first and foremost and then wecan really appreciate and get
the full value.

Glenn (09:19):
Yeah, I couldn't agree more.
Yeah.
It's that simple.

Ina (09:22):
And moving forward in the next few episodes, we're going
to talk about the various waysthat we can filter our water,
what's out there, the good, thebad, the ugly, what works, what
doesn't work, what's oldtechnology, newer technology.
We're going to get into all thatin the next few episodes.
Thank you guys.
We really appreciate you tuningin.

(09:45):
We want the information outthere.
We want the awareness out therebecause we do feel like it's
just such an important awarenessthat we all need to have.
