Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Transformative Living Radio,
where we explore the power ofintentional change for personal
growth and fulfillment.
I'm Andre Flax, your host andcertified life and leadership
coach.
Today, we're diving into atopic that is as timeless as it
is transformative the power ofpatience.
Now, the topic of patienceisn't exactly the kind of thing

(00:24):
that gets people excited.
It's not flashy, nor does itget a ton of attention.
However, patience is one of themost underrated superpowers we
all have, innate within us.
When we learn to practice it,it could lower our stress levels
, improve our relationships andeven help us achieve those big

(00:45):
goals that seem impossible.
So in this episode, we're goingto unpack what patience really
means, why it's so essential forcreating a happy and fulfilling
life and, more importantly, howwe can bring a little bit more
of it into our daily lives.
So if you're ready, let's begin.
Hello and welcome to anotherepisode of Transformative Living

(01:13):
Radio.
I'm Andre Flax, your host andcertified life and leadership
coach.
Now, in today's episode, I wantto dive into a topic that is as
timeless as it istransformative, and that is the
power of patience.
Now, on its surface, patienceisn't always glamorous.
In fact, in today's fast-pacedworld, patience can seem like an

(01:37):
old-fashioned virtue, somethingwe vaguely admire but rarely
appreciate or practice.
However, research in positivepsychology tells us that
patience is far more than justwaiting nicely.
It is a strength that empowersus, builds resilience and helps

(01:58):
us lead more richer, fulfillinglives.
So in this episode, we're goingto break down what patience
really is, why it's so importantand, most importantly, I'll
share four practical ways youcan start cultivating patience
in your daily life.
So let's jump into it.
How would you define patience?

(02:19):
Is it just the ability to waitwithout complaining, or is there
more to it?
Well, according to positivepsychology, patience is the
ability to endure difficultcircumstances, whether that's
waiting for something to happen, persevering through some
adversity or staying calm in theface of frustration.

(02:41):
Calm in the face of frustrationPatience is about maintaining a
sense of calm and optimism, even when the outcome isn't
immediately clear.
So why is this important?
Studies have shown thatpatience has a profound impact
on our mental health and ourrelationships.
In fact, research published inthe Journal of Positive

(03:04):
Psychology shows that people whoare more patient tend to
experience less stress, betteremotional regulation and greater
life satisfaction.
Patience also strengthens ourrelationships because it fosters
empathy, understanding andtrust.
Now here's the thing Cultivatingpatience is challenging, and

(03:27):
the reason why is because itoften requires us to go against
our natural instincts.
Our brains are hardwired forinstant gratification.
Think about it we live in anera where two-day shipping feels
slow and buffering videos canactually ruin our day.
Yet patience is a skill and, like any skill, it can be

(03:49):
practiced, developed andstrengthened.
Which brings me to the heart oftoday's episode how do we
practice patience in our dailylives?
Let me give you four practicalways that will help you
cultivate and develop morepatience in your daily life Now.
The first practical way tocultivate more patience in your

(04:10):
daily life is to use your breathas a reset button.
Now there's been a lot of buzzabout the positive benefits of
breathing exercises, frommeditation to even calming
yourself down in a stressfulsituation, when you feel
frustration or impatiencecreeping up, whether it's from

(04:30):
waiting in traffic or dealingwith a difficult person.
Try this exercise.
Take a slow, deep breath in forfour counts.
Hold it for four seconds, thenexhale slowly for four seconds.
Do this exercise two to threetimes.
By doing so, what you're doingis telling your nervous system

(04:51):
that it's okay to calm down.
This type of deep breathingslows down your heart rate,
lowers your stress level andgives you a little space between
what's happening to you and howyou're going to respond to it.
Now, we all have moments ofhigh frustration and stress.
By practicing this breathingexercise, it will help keep you

(05:12):
from spiraling out of control.
It's simple, but it works.
Now, the second way to cultivateand practice more patience in
your daily life is throughreframing.
Instead of focusing on howannoying or frustrating a
situation could be, tryreframing it.
Annoying or frustrating asituation could be, try
reframing it.
Let me give you an example.
Let's say you're stuck in along line of traffic on the

(05:35):
highway, which is pretty commonnowadays.
Instead of thinking, oh, thisis so frustrating, try asking
yourself how can I use this timedifferently?
Maybe it's an opportunity to dosome deep breathing exercises
or reflect on something positivefrom your day, or just enjoy a
moment of stillness.

(05:55):
Surprising enough, by learninghow to shift your perspective,
you'll be amazed at how muchlighter life feels.
You see, the problem isn't thelong lines of traffic.
It's how we think about it.
Now, the third way to helpcultivate and practice more
patience in your life may raisesome eyebrows.

(06:16):
This exercise is called waitingon purpose.
This exercise requires you tointentionally put yourself in
situations where you have towait.
For example, you may want tochoose the longest line in the
grocery store to wait in, or trythis Instead of replying
immediately to a text message, let the text message sit unread

(06:39):
for a little longer than youwould normally, pick up the
message and reply to it.
So why would you want to dothis?
Well, the answer is it helpstrain your patient muscle in
low-stakes situations.
When you get used to waitingfor small things without
freaking out, you're betterequipped to handle bigger

(06:59):
challenges that require morepatience, like working towards a
larger goal or dealing with adifficult person at work or just
in general.
Now the fourth way to help uscultivate and practice more
patience in our daily lives it'sabout shifting our perspective.
Instead of always chasing quickwins or instant results, start

(07:21):
focusing on long-term goals.
For example, let's say you'relearning a new skill like
cooking or playing an instrument.
The process is is slow.
It takes weeks or months orsometimes longer to get good,
but when you embrace the process, you learn to appreciate the
small, steady progress along theway.
You see, long-term goalsreminds us that not everything

(07:45):
worth having happens in aninstant and, honestly, the best
things in life usually take time.
So what happens when we startworking on patience?
Well, it's like a ripple effect.
First, your stress level willgo down.
Instead of reacting to everylittle thing that doesn't go
your way, you give yourselfspace to pause and respond

(08:08):
calmly.
Second, your relationships getstronger.
Think about it.
How much easier is it toconnect with someone who's
patient, someone who listens, who doesn't rush you, who stays
calm even when things get rough?
You see, patience makes usbetter partners, friends and
colleagues.
Finally, patience makes it easyfor us to achieve those big and

(08:32):
lofty goals.
You see, life isn't a sprint,it's a marathon.
When you're patient, you'rebetter at sticking to the
process, even when the resultsdon't show up right away.
Now, patience doesn't meanpassively waiting for something
good to happen.
It's about staying calm, staying present and focus while

(08:53):
you take action towards thethings that matter most.
Now, as we wrap up this episode, let me leave you with this
thought Patience isn't somethingwe practice for the sake of
other people.
It's a gift we give toourselves.
It makes life feel lighter, smoother and more meaningful.
So here's my challenge for youtoday Try one of the four

(09:14):
strategies we've talked about,whether it's mindful, breathing,
reframing, practicing smalldelays or focusing on long-term
goals.
Try them and see how it changesthe way you experience your day
