What happens when you stop leaning and start standing in your own power? Everything changes.

Most of us have become unconscious leaners – waiting for validation before moving forward, depending on others' approval to determine our worth, or believing our success lies in someone else's hands. But as Ernest Holmes wisely observed, "Do not lean on anyone. You must stand straight in your own strength."

In this powerful follow-up to our "Borrowing Brilliance" episode, we clarify an essential distinction: borrowing ideas and wisdom from others doesn't mean leaning on them for support. Like an oak tree with deep roots, you possess everything needed to stand tall through life's storms. The infinite creative power you seek isn't external – it lives within you, waiting to be expressed. When you stand aligned and grounded, you become a clear channel for strength, clarity, and abundance. But when you lean, you block this natural flow.

Through practical strategies and compelling examples, we explore how to recognize when you're leaning and how to shift into a stance of personal power. You'll learn to claim your inner strength through daily affirmations, catch yourself in moments of dependency, deepen your spiritual roots, and take bold action even without perfect circumstances. One coaching client discovered that by recognizing themselves first instead of waiting for their boss's validation, everything shifted – not because their environment changed, but because they did.

Standing in your own power creates a presence that radiates without words. It's not about isolation but authentic connection from a place of wholeness. When you stop leaning, you stop waiting. And when you stop waiting, you start creating the life you were meant to live. Are you ready to stand?

Speaker 1 (00:48):
Welcome to Transformative Living Radio,
where we explore the power ofintentional change for personal
growth and fulfillment.
I'm Andre Flax, your host andcertified life and leadership
coach.
In our last episode, we talkedabout borrowing brilliance, how
we can spark our own ideas bydrawing from the wisdom and
light of others.
But here's the thing Borrowingbrilliance doesn't mean leaning.

(01:11):
But here's the thing Borrowingbrilliance doesn't mean leaning.
Too many of us are leaningleaning on approval, leaning on
circumstances, leaning on otherpeople to hold us up, and when
we do, we forget the truth thatwe were never created to lean.
We were created to stand.
In today's episode, entitledNever Be a Leaner, we're tapping
into the wisdom of ErnestHolmes from his book Creative

(01:34):
Minds and Success.
In this episode, we'll explorewhat it really means to stop
leaning, how to stand rooted inyour own strength and how to tap
into the infinite power alreadyliving inside you.
Because when you stand firm, aligned and unshakable, you
become unstoppable.
You don't wait for the world tochange, you start creating.

(01:57):
So if you're ready to stopleaning on others and start
standing on your own brilliance, grab a pen and a pad and if
you're ready, let's begin.
Hello and welcome to anotherempowering episode of
Transformative Living Radio.
I'm Andre Flax, your host andcertified life and leadership

(02:18):
coach.
Now, before we dive intotoday's message, I want to pause
and connect it back to our lastepisode entitled Borrowing
Brilliance.
In that conversation, weexplored how none of us has to
start from scratch.
We can borrow ideas and wisdomand inspiration from the great
minds and experiences that camebefore us.

(02:40):
We can borrow brilliance tospark something new within us.
But here's the key Borrowingbrilliance doesn't mean leaning.
When we borrow brilliance,we're not asking someone else to
carry us, we're not shrinkingback.
We're not waiting for others tovalidate us.
We're standing tall, choosingto take those ideas, those

(03:04):
lessons and light our own candle.
Think of it like fire.
You can borrow a flame to lightyour own candle, but once it's
lit, it's your flame.
You don't keep leaning on othercandles forever.
You stand in your own light.
And that's the bridge intoday's episode, because today

(03:25):
we're talking about what ErnestHolmes called never be a leaner.
Now, this is about more thanjust leaning or borrowing.
It's about standing tall, unshakable and rooted in that
power that is already livingwithin you.
You see, holmes reminds us,quote do not lean on anyone.
You must stand straight in yourown strength, end quote.

(03:47):
And that's precisely wherewe're going today.
So let me be clear about what Imean by the term leaning.
You see, a leaner is someonewho waits for life to happen to
them instead of creating it.
A leaner is also someone whobelieves that their destiny is
in someone else's hands.

(04:07):
Think of it this way If you leanon a crutch too long, your
muscles weaken, you forget howto walk on your own, you lose
your strength.
Now, when we lean on approval,on other people's strength, on
luck, on circumstances, weforget the truth, and that is we
are powerful.
I want you to picture an oaktree strong, tall and rooted.

(04:33):
Now that oak tree doesn't leanon the tree next to it to grow.
Its roots go deep, its branchesstretch high towards the sky
and when the storms come, itdoesn't topple, it stands.
You see, my friend, that oaktree is you.

(04:53):
Now here's a more profound truth.
When you lean, you're sending amessage to the universe, and
that message is I don't trustmyself, I don't believe I can
handle this, but the spiritualreality is everything that you
need is already within you theinfinite, the creative mind, the

(05:15):
spirit, god.
It isn't outside of you, itlives within you.
It expresses through you.
And when you stand straight, aligned and grounded, you open
yourself up to that power.
You become a clear channel forstrength, clarity and abundance.
But when you lean, it's likekinking the hose you block the

(05:39):
flow.
Let me give you another example.
Imagine electricity flowingthrough a cable.
If the wire is bent too sharply, the current is disrupted.
When you straighten it, thecurrent flows freely again.
That's your mind, that's yourspirit Straight, aligned,
grounded, strong.

(06:00):
So let's bring this home In arelationship.
A leaner might say I'll onlyfeel good if they love me back.
But one who stands says I knowmy worth, I bring love into this
relationship.
In a business situation, aleaner might be someone who

(06:21):
waits for the perfect moment, the one who stands.
They move, they act and theycreate.
Now I remember a particularclient that I was coaching who
said to me I just can't moveforward until my boss recognized
me.
They didn't realize that theywere actually leaning.
So I asked them what wouldhappen if you recognized

(06:43):
yourself first, if you stood onyour own confidence and if you
led from there.
Well, within weeks everythingshifted, not because their boss
changed, but because they did.
You see, when we stop leaning,we stop waiting.
And when we stop waiting, westart creating.
So how do we move from leaningto standing?

(07:07):
Well, let me give you fourpractical but powerful
strategies to help you startstanding versus leaning.
Strategy number one is to claimyour power.
Daily, each morning, declare Istand in my own strength, the
infinite upholds me within me.
Now I want you to say it untilyou believe it.

(07:28):
You see, affirmations don'ttrick the mind, they train it.
Now, strategy number two is tocatch yourself leaning.
What I mean by this is noticewhen you're waiting for
someone's approval, notice whenyour fear makes you hold back.
You see, awareness is the key.

(07:54):
The moment you see it, you canstraighten it.
Now, strategy number three isto deepen your roots.
Like the oak tree example, yourstrength comes from roots, and
that's through meditation, through prayer, journaling and
silence.
The deeper your roots, thestronger you'll stand.
Now, strategy number four is totake bold action.
Standing isn't just an innerposture, it's an outer action.

(08:17):
If you've been waiting for theperfect moment, stop, move, take
the next step, make the phonecall, write, launch, begin.
You see, momentum builds bymovement and movement creates
strength.
Remember, when you stand, you're telling the universe I am

(08:38):
ready and life always answersreadiness.
Now, as we wrap up this episode, I want to take a moment to
have you imagine something.
Imagine you're walking in aroom, everyone else is leaning,
leaning on walls, leaning onothers, leaning on excuses and

(08:58):
then there you are standing, tall, centered and confident.
You don't have to say a word, but people notice, because
presence I mean true presenceradiates.
That's who you are, that's whoyou've always been.
As Holmes said, never be aleaner, always be strong, Always

(09:23):
be independent and listen.
This doesn't mean we don't needpeople.
You see, we're wired forcommunity, for connection, but
there's a difference betweensharing strength and depending
on others to hold you up.
You don't lean because youdon't have to.
You are whole, you are completeand you are enough.

(09:44):
So today, decide to stand, stand in your business, stand in
your relationships and stand inyour dreams, and never be a
leaner.
Well, that's our show for today.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
