We explore Denzel Washington's powerful quote: "Without commitment you'll never start, but, more importantly, without consistency you'll never finish," and unpack why these two elements are essential for achieving any meaningful goal.

• Commitment is necessary to overcome both positive and negative distractions when beginning any endeavor
• Jim Rohn's insight on how talking about goals prematurely gives you the psychological reward before doing the work
• How announcing goals to others can reduce your motivation to actually complete them
• Personal example of starting the podcast but facing technical challenges with camera equipment
• The importance of persistence in finding simple solutions to seemingly complex problems
• Consistency as the key factor in moving past obstacles and completing what you start

Speaker 1 (00:08):
welcome back to the transparent nature podcast.
This is career chats.
Bite-sized inspiration, josh.
Welcome back to the podcastglad to be here I got a quote
for you today.
It says without commitmentyou'll never start, but, more
importantly, without consistencyyou'll never start.
But, more importantly, withoutconsistency you'll never finish.

(00:28):
By Denzel Washington.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
What do you think about that?
That's a nice quote Withoutcommitment you'll never start
and without consistency you'llnever finish.
Man, I truly believe in that.
I truly believe in that, andwhat I mean by that is because,
in order for you to start, youhave to be committed.
The reason why?
Because in that startingprocess, like man, if you're not
committed, it's going to be alot of things that distract you.

(00:51):
It's going to be a lot ofthings that distract you, like,
and it's good things and badthings, and that's one thing I
like to tell people Distractionsaren't, it isn't always bad,
that's true.
You have distractions, that'strue.
You have distractions.
That's good to really help you, yeah, uh-huh, and but it takes
your time and your focus awayfrom what you should be focusing
on.
And so, man, like you do haveto be committed from the very

(01:12):
beginning, and even to talkabout just that next part of
without consistency, consistencyyou'll never finish.
That is so good you'll neverfinish because you have to stay
consistent, like consistency isthe key to getting anything done
.
And you know what's crazy that?

(01:33):
You said that.
I was listening to a video thismorning by Jim Rohn and he was
talking about when it comes tobeing consistent.
He was saying if you alwaystalk about what you're going to
do, right, if you always talkabout what you're going to do
and you tell everybody whatyou're going to do, that

(01:54):
actually takes away from youfinishing.
And the reason why he said thatis because you get the reward.
You get the reward, so you'reless driven because you already
got the reward.
When you tell people hey, youknow, uh they are really
celebrating you?

Speaker 1 (02:09):
yeah, they're already oh, that's awesome man I can't
wait.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
Oh yeah, yep, and.
And what he was saying was likeit takes away your energy, it
takes away your focus, and soyou've got that reward of
feeling like you alreadyaccomplished it, but you didn't,
and so it's hard to stayconsistent, right?
If you're already rewarded butyou haven't even finished yet.
So, man, that's a nice quote byDenzel Washington.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
Yeah, it really is.
And automatically, when I sawthis quote, I was thinking about
the podcast.
Right, because you was with me,you did my commercial and we
were talking about it for over ayear.
Right, yeah, and life happened.
Right, things happened.
You know, I started with thewall, I started ordering just
stuff, the process yes, and thenout of nowhere, I couldn't

(02:55):
figure out my camera situation.
Yeah, like for some reason oranother, my camera would not
connect for me to do videos onmy computer with my DSLR.
And for some reason, I was likeeither I'm going to have to buy
a new camera and that's goingto be like an extra $1,200 and

(03:16):
more with lenses and all of that.
But you know what?
I was committed to it.
I was like I'm going to figurethis out and believe it or not.
It was something so simple, sosimple.
Committed to it, I was like I'mgonna figure this out and
believe it or not.
It was something so simple, sosimple.
I just needed one extra piece, yeah, one extra something to
plug into right, uh, thecomputer, um, and that really
changed the game.
And so when I got started, youknow, other challenges came

(03:39):
along, like, uh, our firstepisode we recorded, you
remember.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
We did it like two or three times but, you know like
you have to be, we have to becommitted.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
You gotta be committed and even with
consistency, like if you know, and I think that's why some
people they call it burnout, butyeah sometimes people, they
just get lazy right, absolutely, absolutely, and you got to be
consistent with whatever you'redoing.
So, man, thank you for comingon the show.
Bite-sized inspiration with ourcareer chat.

(04:11):
All right, we'll see y'all onthe other side, you.
