Ousman Umar nacio en Ghana, África, y salió de su país con la esperanza de llegar a Libia para poder encontrar trabajo y dejar la pobreza de su pueblo. Lo hizo como lo hacen los inmigrantes en esa zona: atravesando el desierto. Abandonado a la mitad de éste y sobreviviendo casi por milagro, llegó a una Libia controlada por Gadaffi. Cuatro años de violencia fueron suficientes para decidir volver al desierto y luego cruzar el Mediterráneo en patera. De nuevo, algo casi milagroso evitó que muriera en las embarcaciones que se hundían a su alrededor y llegó a España, para terminar asentado y acogido en Barcelona.
