today's episode, because I'mabout to flip everything you've

Today we're going to be talkingabout marketing from abundance
versus marketing from lack,which is what a lot of people

just automatically do, and I'llexplain that.
But let me tell you, this shiftchanges pretty much everything,
and when I made this shift inmy business, I went from feeling
overwhelmed and unsure all thetime to booking my dream clients
consistently, also raising myprices confidently and actually
(01:29):
enjoying the marketing processinstead of dreading it, which is
, I know, something that a lotof you guys are dealing with.
And while we're on the subjectof marketing from abundance
versus lack, I want to mentionthat I created an entirely new

All right, let's get to the meatof today's show.
So first I want to talk to youguys a little bit about the
marketing struggle that mostphotographers and creatives face
.
Because, let's be real, most ofus start our businesses because
we love what we do, right?
If you're a photographer, youlove photography.
(06:36):
You were probably told that youhave a good eye, all of these
things, and you probably didn'tstart it because you absolutely
love marketing, like you love tosell online, right?
But at some point you realizethat if you don't market
yourself, you know nobody'sgoing to just magically show up
in your inbox, unfortunatelyjust ready to book.
(06:58):
I talk about this a lot becausemarketing is kind of like my
love language.
I really do enjoy marketing,but I didn't know that until I
started my own business.
But this is where fear startscreeping in, right?
Am I charging too much?
What if nobody books me everagain?
I hear that a lot from you guys.
Should I lower my prices?
(07:20):
Look at so-and-so.
They're killing it.
And I'm just over herestruggling.
That comparison game is justawful, right.
So if any of that soundsfamiliar, let's talk about it.
So all of those thoughts reallydo come from this place of lack,
right?
So when you're operating fromthis mindset, marketing feels
(07:43):
heavy, it feels exhausting and,honestly, it just doesn't work,
because your clients can feelthe energy coming from you.
They pick up on hesitation,inconsistency, scarcity, and
that energy actually pushes themaway.
Because again I'm going to geta little woo on you, but
(08:03):
basically we are just vibratingenergy molecules.
So if you are operating fromthis place of a low vibrational
imprint, let's say right, if youare really kind of stuck in
lack, mentality, scarcity,thinking that money is just not
(08:23):
easily made, you have to workreally hard to make it.
Basically just operating fromyour past and what you've been
programmed with about money andsales, as opposed to how you
want it to look, if you'reoperating from that energetic
place, it doesn't matter howgood you fake it till you make
(08:45):
it.
If you really believe whatthose thoughts are telling you,
then you're going to find proofof that in your reality, because
that's just how physics works.
So the faking it till you makeit only works if you deep down
believe and feel that you areabundant, that you want
(09:07):
something bigger, better, more.
You can't really believe thelack thoughts and get bigger,
better, more.
You can't really believe thelack thoughts and get bigger,
better, more.
You have to at least have abelief deep down.
It can be deep down that youcan have what you want.
Okay, I always talk about thiscombination of grit and optimism
, right, the grit is reallyimportant.
You got to put in the work, yougot to get up and make a move.
(09:30):
Right, but you also have tobelieve deep down that you can
do this, and I really do thinkthat most of you guys have this.
I'm on a lot of phone calls,right, I do a lot of free
alignment calls for people tosee if, you know, coaching would
be a good fit for them, and Iwould say most of the people I
speak to have this deep belief.
(09:50):
They do, because otherwise youprobably wouldn't have booked
the call.
But sometimes I get on a calland I can tell immediately that
there isn't belief there andthat's going to make it a lot
harder, a lot harder for you tomake a move, to take a step.
I remember when I first startedin photography I, you know this
was well before we had all ofthis free education.
(10:13):
It was like 2005, 2006.
So, like it was really hard tofind anything online, right, but
the people that I did find Iwould sort of stalk their
websites and I kept kind oftrying to watch what everybody
else was doing, right, I wasjust inferring, like how are
(10:34):
they pricing?
Cause it was hard to findanybody who would be open about
any of their processes.
Everything was really closedoff, like nobody really wanted
to help at all.
And I even reached out to ahandful of people and offered
you know, like I don't know ifyou are mentoring other
photographers that's not listedon your website, but I could
(10:55):
really use that and I'd love topay you to do that.
And most people would even likenot even get back to me, and
the ones who did were notforthcoming at all.
Like I wasn't asking for freeinformation, I was willing to
pay and they were very cold andshut off.
So we've come a long way.
You guys who are just startingout now in this space, or just
(11:18):
in the last couple of years,even since COVID, you got it
pretty good.
You've got an online plethoraof information.
But that also is part of theproblem, because now there's so
much information it's hard todecipher what's gonna work for
work for you.
You can mimic somebody'sstrategies, you can try and
(11:39):
infer what they're doing and seeif you can implement some of
that, but unless you really seethe underside of their business,
it's really hard to knowexactly what's going on there,
but I would get stuck in that.
I would get stuck in thiscomparison and trying to figure
out their strategies, trying tofigure out their pricing, and I
was always in this cycle ofwhat's working for them instead
(12:01):
of what feels aligned for me andmy business.
I didn't even have clarity onthat and, spoiler alert, that
didn't work.
So it wasn't until I reallydove into this, this mindset
game, right and specificallyabundance mindset, truly really
believing that my people wereout there you know, my clients
(12:24):
were just there and waiting forme to show up, that I could
really change my worth and thatmarketing could actually be fun,
that I could really change myworth and that marketing could
actually be fun.
And then my bookings really didexplode.
Okay, so what does marketingfrom abundance actually look
like?
If marketing from lack is allabout fear and comparison and
scrambling for clients and allof these low vibe things, then
(12:48):
what does the opposite reallylook like?
Some examples would be youshowing up with true confidence,
knowing that your dream clientsare already looking for you and
, even if you don't reallyreally like a hundred percent,
believe that yet again.
If you have a tinge of that,that is good enough to start
(13:08):
from.
You just need to build it up.
It also looks like you creatingcontent that reflects your
unique brand, instead ofworrying about what everybody
else is doing.
It looks like you staying inyour lane.
I very rarely look at anyoneelse in my spaces feeds I really
don't.
Now, if I am, I'm doing it tobuild them up.
(13:29):
Okay, I go into it with theintention of I'm going to hop
online, I'm going to see what myfriends are up to, I'm going to
go and comment on their posts,give them some engagement and
hype them up.
That's abundant mindset.
The opposite scrolling lookingat everybody else's work,
feeling like yours sucks.
Feeling jealousy, feelings oflike must be nice.
(13:52):
That's not.
That's scarcity.
So you need to catch yourself.
When you do that and you can dothat quick reframe, you can say
oh nope, I'm falling into that.
Let me go ahead and justcomment something nice instead.
That alone shifts your energyand raises your vibration a lot.
Another way to market fromabundance is that you set your
(14:13):
prices based on the value thatyou bring, not based on your
fear of rejection.
Don't set your prices becauseyou're afraid of what people are
not going to buy.
Okay, a lot of you guys areundercutting yourself a lot.
You're not looking at youractual numbers.
I'm working with a couple ofphotographers right now in my
(14:34):
one-on-one coaching.
They've both been in this.
They're each one-on-one butthey're they're doing similar
things and each of them are youknow, they've been in the space
for a little while and they'regood photographers like way too
good to charge what they'recharging and they know it, which
is why they hired me.
But they're meeting with a lotof resistance because the longer
(14:56):
that you do this here's thething Like if you're just
starting out, it's a lot easierto build this foundation from
the get-go, I think, thangetting stuck in this sort of
like lack mentality andfear-based marketing.
If you do that for a long timeand you're not priced
appropriately and you don't knowyour actual numbers, it's
(15:18):
almost harder to break out ofthat because you have created
this habit.
Now your unconscious mindthinks that that is safe and so
it's up to you to reframe that.
It's up to you to tell yourunconscious mind that no, no, no
, we don't want that.
You know quote, unquote safething.
We want to grow and you can'tgrow if you're not sustainable.
(15:40):
So if that's you and you'vebeen in business for a long time
and you know you're not pricedappropriately it's.
I invite you to really take alook at this and the seniorology

And then the other thing thatmarketing from abundance looks
like is that you trust yourmarketing is a long-term game,

not a quick fix.
So you're consistent andstrategic.
Okay, a lot of y'all are justflying by the seat of your pants
and, trust me, I get it.
I know that we have a lot goingon.
I'm a really big believer increating some sort of balance or
integration with your personaland business lives and as a
(16:22):
solopreneur, it feels likeyou're just wearing all the hats
.
But marketing is a long game,all right, and it is better to
be strategic about it than justflying by the seat of your pants
.
Now, that's not to say you haveto have like this perfectly
curated Instagram feed.
If you look at mine, you'll seethat that is not that like.
(16:43):
I am not that person.
That's not my, that's not mypersonality.
I'm never going like.
If you go to my Instagram feedand you see nothing but like
Canva templates and everythingis like perfectly formatted, I
have been kidnapped, send help,because that's not me.
Or like a message being likegirl, who did you hire to do
(17:06):
your marketing?
Because it's not you.
That's just not who I am right.
Your, your, your branding needsto really feel like you.
Your clients need to know whoyou are and so if there's a
disconnect, like, and if that'syou to have a perfectly curated
feed, all right, go for it.
Lean in that's who you are, butthat's not who I am right.
(17:29):
So that is really, reallyimportant for you to know to
start with.
And listen, this is not justanother woo-woo mindset shift.
Okay, this is really rooted instrategy and psychology and even
marketing data.
And when you position yourselfas an expert with confidence,
(17:50):
people are more likely to bookwith you, just in general.
And when you stay consistentinstead of just posting
sporadically out of panic, thealgorithm actually works in your
favor.
And again, if you buysomebody's script or templates,
you have to make sure that youare putting your spin on that,
(18:12):
don't just copy paste.
When you believe in yourpricing, your clients respect it
and this is why I teachmarketing from abundance.
It's not just a mindset, it's asystem that you can really
implement over and over again,which makes this whole thing a
lot easier.
So how do you start marketingfrom abundance today, like today
, right after you listen to thisepisode?
(18:32):
I don't want you to just listento this episode and think, oh
yeah, that sounds nice.
I want you to take action.
That's really my intention withall of my podcast episodes, no
matter solo episodes or episodeswith guests.
I want you to take something ofvalue away from it and then go
out and do something with it.
So here are three things thatyou can do today to start
(18:53):
shifting into abundance.
First thing, do a content audit.
Look at your last five to 10social media posts.
Were they created from a placeof excitement and alignment or
from a place of stress andobligation?
If they feel heavy, it's timeto adjust how you're showing up.
And again, look at your feedright, whether it's Instagram or
(19:15):
TikTok or whatever.
And, by the way, just a littleside note, I'm going to be doing
a social media pop-up classsoon, in March.
I will let you guys know whenthat information comes out.
I originally was going to dojust a TikTok class, but then
the whole ban happened and Ipushed it off because I wanted
to see what was going to happenwith that.
And it is back, although wedon't know for how long.
(19:39):
We don't know exactly what'sgoing on.
And if you guys know me, youknow that I love TikTok.
It's like kind of always beenmy preferred platform, but it's
shifted.
It's definitely changed sincethe ban and I am still doing a
lot of research on the algorithmand what that really means for
us as creatives andphotographers.
(20:01):
So I wanted to wait just alittle bit longer to put this
together for you guys.
So it's going to be in Marchand I'm also going to include
some Instagram information there, possibly even some other
platforms.
I'm going to see what kind ofbubbles up, but stay tuned for
that, because it'll this will bespecifically for photographers,
(20:23):
um, and I really want to makeit as value as possible.
So, anyway, all of that to saylook at your content TikTok,
instagram, whatever and I wantyou to really like, assess, does
this feel like me?
Is this really?
Is this really me?
That's a really big part ofthis.
The next step is to affirm andembody it.
(20:45):
Okay, start your day with asimple mantra, something like my
dream clients are already ontheir way to me.
Come up with your own.
That feels really good, but Iwant you to put it in the
present, as if it is alreadyhappening.
Say it, write it, but you needto feel it.
You have to feel it.
(21:06):
That's the key.
Your energy will shiftimmediately when you do this,
and the more you do it, thestronger it gets.
And then the third step is toget a system in place.
So this is where a lot ofphotographers and creatives also
struggle.
You feel like you're just kindof all over the place because
you don't have a marketing plan.

I think this is just like aneuro, diverse, creative brain
thing.
You like novelty, something new, right.
So like somebody new pops upand they have a new resource for
you.
You're going to jump on it.
You'll be like, oh my God, Ihave to have this right away,
that kind of thing.
You buy a lot of stuff but thenyou don't really do a lot with
(22:35):
it.
Okay, maybe you, maybe you dowatch the course or you go
through it, but you feel reallystuck on how to implement it,
because now you're just confusedand a lot of us with spicy
brains like this have a reallyhard time like trying to figure
out, like what is the clarity onwhat I actually want, and then
reverse engineering it.
(22:55):
And that's what I do with youinside of coaching, cause I'm
really good with clarity.
That's kind of one of my littlesuperpowers is that I am able
to help you figure out what youwant and to tune out the rest of
the noise.
So try your best to work onthat If you are struggling with
you know marketing from thisplace of lack, because if you're
(23:18):
stuck in this loop.
If you're stuck on this scriptof like I'm not good enough, my
work isn't good enough, or, youknow, no one's going to pay
these prices, all of that stuff,it's really hard to get
yourself out of that.
If you feel like you were justworking in a vacuum, right Like
if you're in, it feels likeyou're like in solitary
confinement sometimes becauseyou don't know what you don't
(23:41):
know.
And if you have purchased a lotof things or even just like
downloaded a lot of freebies,you're going to't know.
And if you have purchased a lotof things or even just like
downloaded a lot of freebies,you're going to be confused.
And that just adds to the noisein your head and the
overthinking and the secondguessing and the imposter
syndrome.
All of that stuff is coming froma place of scarcity and I want
you coming from a place ofabundance.
(24:02):
Okay, because I do want you towin.
When you win, I win and viceversa.
We really do all rise together.
That's not just a cheesy slogan.
When you really embrace thatand you are able to like, really
embrace it truly and not justsay it, your energy shifts and
(24:23):
your clients, your new clients,feel it Honestly when you come
from that place of abundance.
It really is about coming fromyour heart center.
Okay, like you can even likethat's another little trick you
can do is to just put your handsover your heart for about two
minutes, close your eyes,breathe into it and think about
(24:45):
somebody that you love so much,that you are just so grateful
for in your life.
That's like an instant energyshift, right there, and then
start thinking about yourbusiness, right, like, so
transfer the energy.
If you're having a hard timelike coming up with this
abundant mindset, justspecifically about your business
(25:07):
, okay, don't even think aboutthe business.
Think about someone you love,think about someone you're
grateful for or something you'regrateful for, and then just
shift.
I want you to think about it aslike maybe climbing a ladder.
Like, let's say, you'reclimbing this ladder and the
ladder is gratefulness andyou're trying to feel better,
you're raising your vibration,okay, so you go up about five or
(25:29):
six steps.
You say a little gratefulnessthing.
You go up another five moresteps, you think about somebody
you love and you start buildingand stacking this good feeling.
Okay, you don't have to climbback down that ladder to go
think about your business now.
There's another ladder next toyou.
You just jump to it.
So you just jumped right overto the marketing from abundance,
(25:52):
your business ladder, andyou're already there.
So then start thinking aboutsomething that you're grateful
for in your business and justtransfer the energy.
I know how game changing thisshift is because I've done it
and it's not that I, you know,don't fall off of the wagon,
because I do.
I fall off my ladder all thetime, but I get back up and
that's really what matters.
(26:14):
Success is not about being thebest photographer, the best
digital marketer, whatever.
It's about, I believe, beingwilling to do the work and if
you're listening to my podcast,you are, if you're drawn to this
kind of content, then then youare already.
You already there.
But it's not just about themindset Although that's my
(26:36):
favorite part it's really aboutthese practical steps that you
can take today to build amarketing system that actually
works for you and your businessand the way that you envision
the business.
