(00:45):
to the University of Idaho, thescene of the now infamous and chilling murders
of four young students. Listen inas Vansant speaks with a few family members
of the victims. Moscow will foreverbe known as a scene of one of
(01:07):
the most tragic crimes in American history. There's still sort of a darkness.
Whenever you talk to people, itwill be ever part of the university's history
and the town's history. There arefour very very important names in this case,
Kayley Gonsolvis, Madison Mogen, XannaCarnodle, and Ethan Shapin. And
(01:33):
if you're going to remember any namesfrom this case, I ask that it
be all four. My name isOlivia Gonzolvez and Kaylee was my little sister.
Everybody's going to work and you lookout the window and there's kids running
down the street laughing, and you'rejust like, how can you be out
there playing My daughter's did you know? Kayley Gonsolvis is gone. Stop everything
(01:57):
everybody in the whole world stop, and everything just keeps going. My sister,
Ziana carnol is one of the happiest, funniest people I've ever met,
and I had the awesome privilege ofgrowing up with her, and I still
(02:20):
have a hard time coming to termswith the thoughts that did it. Hoppen
Brian Cooberger is accused of stabbing thesefour University of the Idaho students in the
pre dawn hours on November thirteenth, twenty twenty two. The murder weapon which
was a knife has never been found. This is a type of survival knife.
(02:42):
Brian Coburger did not make his ownplea. The judge entered a plea
for him of not guilty, absolutepenalties life in prison for the death pay.
Due to the nature of the crimes. The State of Ido is seeking
the death penalty. He was thereto kill. He came in with the
kid. I believe he had tokill Kit and you believe that everything right
(03:02):
down to the implement of destruction, this large marine knife, that was all
planned, all planned. It isinhumane. You wouldn't do these type of
things to any living creature, letalone an innocent human being. In August
of twenty twenty three, just sixweeks before the murdered trial of Brian Koberger
(03:23):
was set to begin, he wavedhis right to a speedy trial. Absolutely
they would have to wait indefinitely fortheir day in court. I was really
hoping that we could get this showon the road because the not knowing,
(03:45):
it's just it's agony. It's agony. Steve and Christie, the parents of
Cayley, haven't left anything to chance. After the judge issued a gag order
to attorney and law enforcement quote. To preserve the right to a fair trial,
They drilled down on their own investigationand are now sharing what they believe
(04:10):
that investigation found. Steve says hebelieves transparency is the best path to justice.
We're not going to just sit backand cross our fingers and pray that
we're going to get justice. Ithas been a long and painful journey for
(04:31):
the families of Kaylee Gonzalvas, MaddieMogan, Zanna Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin.
Do you ever dream of your sister? Yeah, We've had some dreams
of her. There's times where Iprayed and ask God syric another time and
I did and excuse me some peace, knowing that I know she's okay.
(05:00):
Jasmine Cronodle, who was speaking forthe first time, was a senior at
Washington State University and lived only fifteenminutes away from her younger sister, Zanna,
often mistaken as twins growing up,she says they were best friends.
She was always fun, she wasuplifting, and she took any bad situation
(05:21):
turned it into a good one.Jeff, what did you love most about
your daughter? Everything? She caredabout people. She was a people person,
scared about her friends. This isnice as like her family. For
the first time in her life,Zanna had fallen in love with fellow student
(05:43):
Ethan Chapin, a triplet who lovedhis siblings, boats and working on a
tulip farm. The sweetest kid ever. They were just two happy people and
they's just seen the videos and photosof them. You can just like tell
how happy they are. They're justamazing together. Sadly, they will now
forever be linked in death. OnSunday morning, November thirteenth, Zanna's friends
(06:11):
started calling Jasmine, saying something badhad happened on King Road. Jasmine rushed
over to Zanna's house. And whileyou're driving that eight nine miles over to
the house, are you trying toreach your sister? Then? How many
times do you call her? Lot? I called her. Her next call
(06:31):
was to her father. Jeffrey hadbeen visiting Jasmine for dad's weekend and was
on his way home. So youanswered the phone. What do you hear?
You're kind of crying and just tellingme to get back to Moscow and
Zanna's house, and you know,my heart drops instantly race back down on
(06:58):
earth. The house was cordoned offand swarming with investigators. As soon as
Jeffrey said he was Zanna's father,he and Jasmine were escorted to the Moscow
Police department and Jasmine, what doesthe officers say to you and your father?
Oh? I remember exactly just that. Four people passed way and the
