Speaker 1 (00:07):
Nolah, The Journal, the Murder.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
I've been living all these years wondering why my brother
was murdered? Why? For what reason? It wasn't a robbery?
So what else am I supposed to think that it
had something to do with my mother?

Speaker 3 (00:37):
A few months after I graduated college, NPD homicide detective
showed up at my friend Nicholas's house with an arrest warrant,
charging me in the murder of Morris Smith. Wait what how?

Speaker 2 (00:51):
Because I would not let him get away with a
lot of stuff he tried to get away with.

Speaker 4 (00:56):
I'm n Ley Hunt and this is NOLA ninety three,
The Journal and the Murder. We go back to New
Orleans and the death of Morris Smith. It's unsolved. He
was a twenty four year old who was gunned down
while standing in a doorway. There are plenty of witnesses,
But why is it they arrested one of his friends
who didn't fit the description. Some say his mother had

(01:19):
something to do with it.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
Everybody on the outside thought my mom was a sweet, kind, loving,
wonderful woman. She was evil behind closed doors.

Speaker 4 (01:37):
I think there would have been lots of witnesses. I
don't see Matt getting out of this house, making that
distance and coming back in retirement perfectly. It just seems
really far festered me.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
He overheard some guy named Solomon bragging to his buddies
about having committed the murder and laughing about the fact
that a white guy was in custody.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
He was a kind, so very kind. Uh, he gave
you the shirt off his back. That's cliche, but you know, no.

Speaker 5 (02:13):
Not three.

Speaker 4 (02:28):
Written and produced by Enley Hunt for Fireeyes Media. Music
