She'd been stabbed a total of 70 times. Her legs, arms, hands, neck, and face were all covered in blood. It was clear that this was a particularly severe assault. Zein Ahmed, a classmate of Murphy's daughter, was the first suspect in a murder inquiry into the savage attack on Murphy, who was sleeping at the time. According to Keri Murphy's brother Scott, investigators identified a motivation when they discovered that Mary Ann Murphy had barred Keri from speaking with her lover Rebecca after Keri's father spotted them together in the house alone. After Keri was grounded, Rebecca allegedly handed her a cell phone so she could connect with her. They called it "bunny phone". The reality would soon be revealed: the ladies would continue to converse while awaiting trial, maybe unaware that their phone talks were being recorded.
