At age 14, Alex Schachter was like any other high school kid—always happy and smiling, a proud member of the school marching band, and a huge sports fan.But on February 14, 2018, a gunman armed with a semi-automatic rifle opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Alex's life, along with those of 16 other students and staff, was cut short. In the wake of his son's death, Max Schachter made a choice to channel his grief into change. He became a national advocate for school safety, founding Safe Schools for Alex and working with officials at every level to fix the system that failed his son. Since then, Max has been at the forefront of the fight to prevent school violence — pushing for smarter policies, better security, and accountability where it’s long overdue. This week on True Crime Prevention, Max joins us to share his story, the hard lessons he’s learned, and the work still ahead to keep students safe.💡 This isn’t your typical true crime podcast—it’s about preventing the next tragedy.🔗 Learn more about the National Crime Prevention Council: https://www.ncpc.org/true-crime-prevention-podcast/Support Safe School's for Alex: https://www.safeschoolsforalex.org/Use the School Safety Dashboard: https://www.safeschoolsforalex.org/school-safety-dashboard/Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4wKLQUO52CXyS1W9kVGQd4?si=263179f901304c9aApple Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/true-crime-prevention-podcast/id1821901931🎙 Hosted by Paul DelPonte of the National Crime Prevention Council.Produced by Nicholas Cirone#MaxSchachter #Parkland #SchoolSafety #TrueCrimePrevention #GunViolencePrevention #TakeABiteOutOfCrime #McGruffTheCrimeDog #NCPCPodcast
