My name is Adrian
Hernandez, and this is my story
"It, it's Important to SpeakUp".
It's important to speak up whensomething is not right.
Uh, we can speak up for ourenvironment by picking up trash.
I always speak up when I seesomeone abusing or hurting an
animal.
I, I always speak up when I seesome, someone being a bully.
(03:39):
When I saw a guy hitting myfriend over the head with a
paper towel roll, uh, it was, itwas so mean and random.
It really made me, it made mereally mad and angry.
When I'm, when I'm angry, Iusually use calming techniques
like, like going for a walk or,or, or calming breaths, but but
(04:00):
this, but this wasn't the timeto calm down.
This was time to take action.
I spoke up from my friend.
I told the bully,"Dude do notbully her.
She did not do anything to you.
And what you are doing is notcool." I, I speak up from, I
speak up when I feel upset orstressed about something.
Uh, it's pretty rare that my,that my feelings get hurt, but
(04:22):
it does happen and, and when itdoes, I try to speak up.
I advocate for, for myself whenI, when I need something.
I, I spoke up for myself when Ineeded help on an, on an
assignment in school.
I speak up for myself when I'mnot sure what to do.
When I need advice, I, I canturn to my older sister.
(04:44):
Uh, it's, it's important tospeak up when some, when
something is not right.
It's important to speak up ifyou can.
Maddison (05:02):
My name is Maddison

Start of Finding my Truth." Iremember when I liked to hang
out with my friends, Ella andMegan.
I, I would go to their house onthe other side of Austin and
(05:22):
we'd watched TV and playedgames.
Usually I loved hanging out withthem because I felt safe, and
they gave me new experiences.
But back then there were hardthings in my life, and that day
I was feeling kind of lost andalone.
(05:45):
Megan and Ella noticed I wasacting weird and that I wasn't
being myself.
Megan asked me, Are you okay?"And I said,"I do not know how I
feel." I was really embarrassedto tell them how I really felt,
because we were supposed to havefun and also I thought that they
(06:09):
wouldn't understand.
Then Ella said,"Hey Madison, doyou wanna know a secret?" My
heart started pounding.
I felt really honored, becausethey wanted to include me.
And I felt like well, I belongedand I smiled and I said,"Yes,
(06:31):
please." Then she said,"There'sa place we like to go to, to
share our secrets.
Wanna come to our secret place?"I felt so safe, so welcomed I
said,"Sure, where is it?"Together we went outside.
(06:51):
It was a beautiful, warm day,not too hot.
The garden was very magical andfloral and pretty, and as soon
as I stepped outside, I felt sorelaxed and so welcomed.
I love being outside in naturebecause it makes me feel so much
(07:13):
better.
And I love the sound of the windand the smell of the flowers
Ella and Megan led me throughtheir yard and to the corner,
there was a wooden table andchairs.
They told me that they like tohave tea parties and be
(07:33):
together.
We sat there for quite a while, then Megan said,"Please tell us
what's going on Madison." I wasstill very afraid to tell them I
was so scared to be honest, butso I just went for it and did it
anyway.
I wanted to be honest, so Isaid,"Well, I mean, I'm feeling
(07:59):
a bit lost right now and aloneand scared." And Ella said, You
are not alone." And Megan said,"You have us." That was when I
started to remember the truththat I was never lost.
(08:19):
I was never alone.
Cause no matter what'shappening, I have friends that
love me for who I am and myfriends love me for me no matter
what.
I just need to remember to havefaith.
And I realized that they hadfaith in me as well.
(08:43):
I started to learn that who I amis enough and I started to find
my truth and my self acceptance.
I don't feel like I need to hidemyself.
I do not need to pretend to besomeone else.
(09:04):
I know that I'm a part of thisworld and that I can't hide my
voice forever.
My voice matters.

candied sweet potatoes.
That's my dad's favorite, heused to like to eat that when he
was little.
My uncle and aunt, my Grandmaand Grandfather, two siblings

I was able to see my otheruncle's dog and his cat.
Our dog Nugget, the pug was, unfortunately not there because
