Every year, for the 46 days leading up to Easter, Catholics and some Protestants get that black cross-shaped stain applied to their forehead by the priest. Everyone can see it and it is supposed to mean something deeply spiritual. But is it in the Bible? Are we as believers – followers of Jesus – really commanded to do this annually for 40 some days?
