Yêu nghề viết, say mê văn hóa các dân tộc bản địa Tây Nguyên, gần 20 năm cầm bút, nữ nhà văn Niê Thanh Mai người dân tộc Ê Đê đã mang đến cho bạn đọc cả nước những trang văn đầy trăn trở, day dứt về những thân phận người trong dòng chảy biến đổi văn hóa. Ở đó có sự dùng dằng níu giữ nguồn cội, có sự va đập, đứt gãy văn hóa khi bứt phá để hội nhập. Nhà văn Niê Thanh Mai hiện là Chủ tịch Hội Văn học nghệ thuật tỉnh Đắk Lắk; Phó Chủ tịch Hội Văn học nghệ thuật các dân tộc thiểu số Việt Nam. Trong sự nghiệp viết văn, chị đã có nhiều giải thưởng như: Giải tác giả trẻ của Liên hiệp các Hội Văn học nghệ thuật Việt Nam năm 2005 với tập truyện ngắn “Suối của rừng”, giải Nhì của Tạp chí Văn nghệ Quân đội năm 2006 trao cho truyện ngắn “Giữa cơn mưa trắng xóa” và “Cửa sổ không có chắn song”.
