This week, I’m reaching into the archives — like way back — to share something that means a lot to me. 8 years ago, I made a short film. I was fresh into the acting world, full of hope, nerves, and a deep sense of “who even am I?”
As a young Aussie actor, I quickly discovered that being born here didn’t always mean I “looked” the part. I wasn’t the stereotypical blonde-haired, blue-eyed beach boy — and that reality hit hard when I kept getting rejected for roles that supposedly represented the very country I grew up in. Ooft. That’ll shake the ol’ identity tree.
This short film was born out of that confusion, frustration, and (let’s be honest) a good splash of imposter syndrome. I thought I was the only one feeling this way. Turns out? Nope. A whole lot of us are on this emotional rollercoaster — questioning our worth, our place, and whether we belong in an industry that often forgets to tell us: “Hey, you’re enough.”
So, in this episode, I’m sharing the words I wish I heard back then. The ones I needed. The ones that still hit me in the heart today. This is for any actor out there feeling lost, doubtful, or like they’re the only one struggling — I promise you, you’re not alone.
