Speaker 1 (00:00):
Content creation
sometimes can just feel like the
hamster wheel we can neverquite get off.
I'm hoping to give you that outthrough today's episode when we
talk about no longerreinventing the wheel when it
comes to the engagement postwheel.
Every time you post on yourbusiness page story or Facebook
(00:22):
group, you should not feel likeyou always have to reinvent the
wheel.
Content creation now can beinitially exciting, but
sometimes it just becomes achore over time.
If you know, you know.
But why recreate or figuresomething else out if what
you're already doing is gainingthe reaction or response or
(00:46):
action from your audience thatyou were hoping for?
Let's turn down the hustle bytaking advantage of reoccurring
weekly or maybe even monthlystaple posts and let's not fight
the algorithm.
Appreciate the algorithm forwhat it is, but give your
audience a sense ofpredictability so they know when
(01:07):
to look for specific posts fromyou.
Today we are going to talkabout three different types of
posts.
Let's dive in.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
You're listening to
Turd Down the Hustle, the
podcast dedicated totransforming how you run your
creative online t-shirt businessby working smarter, not harder,
so you can spend more time withyour why, people and passions
that matter most in your life.
So throw on your favoritegraphic tee and turn up the heat
press because it's time to turndown the hustle.
Here's your host digitalmarketer.
(01:37):
Cold brew lover t-shirt maker.
Freckled hype girl and owner ofSunkist Virtual Assistant Amy.
Old hype girl and owner ofSunkist Virtual Assistant, amy.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
The first type of
post type is template post.
Template post nearly anybusiness could use.
You could really tweak it, nomatter what you sell, and it's
not necessarily directly tied tothe person or the company per
se.
So queen bee graphics anddesigns she is the one that
creates all of the graphics usedin my content, calendars and
(02:11):
tea party planners.
She generally includes roughly14 of these type posts in her
engagement collections.
If you're curious to see whatthey look like, maybe you
haven't owned a collectionbefore just head over to
sunkissvacom, forward slash 24.
And I have put out an example ofa few of these posts in my show
(02:33):
notes.
These posts can range frommental health Monday.
Traditional Tuesday.
Wishlist Wednesday.
Throwback Thursday.
Flash sale Friday, spotlightSaturday.
Show it off Sunday.
You start to get the point.
So I recommend you schedulethese posts in your group and
(02:54):
observe it for one month, ormaybe even two, and figure out
which of these posts Templatedposts elicit the most response
from your audience.
Once you have identified themaybe one to two best performing
template posts, then I want youto move these to occur every
week.
(03:14):
And if you want a super simpleway to make these occur every
week, I want you to check outepisode 20, where we talked
about admin assist in yourFacebook group, and it's all
about different tools that youcan use.
I break down what admin assistis and how you can use it, and
for these type of posts, adminassist would be perfect.
(03:38):
So I'll give you two reallypopular templated posts to start
thinking about first.
The first one is Wear itWednesday.
When you post this graphic, askyour followers or group members
to share a selfie of themselvesor someone else wearing an item
from your business.
Participants are then enteredto win a $5 store credit just
(04:01):
for participating.
But why I also really likethese template posts, or this
one specifically, is that theirsubmissions could also double as
marketing content.
It's a win-win.
Make sure you ask forpermission, though, before
resharing their photo on socialmedia or website if you don't
have that included in your termsof use on your website.
(04:25):
Another idea for a templatedpost would be Fast Finger Friday
.
You could reschedule this oneevery Friday, and the way I like
to do this is just pick onescreen print that you currently
have in stock and you're tryingto destash, and you will set a
price for these items.
Maybe you only have so manyavailable, like you have three
(04:49):
of this print.
Then you say the first persongets this print and a mystery
color tee for $18.
The second one to comment getsit for 19.
And then the third one gets itfor 20.
So they have to be quick.
So it's kind of like a funengagement but then also a way
for you to make money as well.
I've also done this where maybeI've had multiple prints
(05:11):
available of different designs.
Maybe I post I would do no morethan four designs at a time.
So you post all four designsand you tell them how many of
each that you have, but the samelogic still applies.
So first one to comment gets itfor 18, 19, 20, even if their
design is changing.
Template posts are a great wayto start getting off that
(05:34):
engagement post hamster wheelwithout too much effort.
If you need help gettingstarted or you're not sure of
kind of where you should leantowards with which template
posts to use, then I recommendyou just grab a content calendar
from me on my website.
All of those themes are goingto include templated posts.
(05:57):
So here's your homework.
You ready for each post type.
I'm giving you some homework.
So if you can write it down, great.
If not.
You can just check out the shownotes after this episode ends
and I will have it all brokenout for you.
Head to sunkissvacom forwardslash 24 for these show notes.
Okay, the first set of homework.
I want you to schedule at least14 template posts each month
(06:20):
for two months and analyze whichones get the best response and
adopt that as your weekly stapleposts for the next two months.
And then which ones get thebest response and adopt that as
your weekly staple post for thenext two months and then switch
it up as required.
So I like to switch up mytemplate posts in my group every
few months or so.
So my audience is expectingsomething consistently each week
, but they get to change up theprompts and see something
(06:43):
different.
For me, moving on to post type, number two would be
personalized posts.
So if we have templated posts, super can on one end of the
spectrum.
Personalized posts would be onthe complete opposite side of
the spectrum.
So again, these are nottemplated, but they do encourage
(07:04):
your audience to share moreabout themselves and it gets you
off that hamster wheel oftrying to figure out what should
I be posting and always tryingto think of new things.
This is just a set it and forgetit so you could ask them
different fun questions, like inSeptember, are you a pumpkin
spice fan?
Just schedule that.
Maybe put a gift with it or aphoto of you with pumpkin spice.
(07:26):
Or maybe, if it's in June, asking them are you ready for
summer break or what are youalready doing on summer break?
And then maybe pull a photo ofyou from last year from summer
break and show what you weredoing this time last year.
That way you can put somepersonalization to it.
But what you can do is justschedule these all in advance,
(07:47):
and they're really fun questions.
People love giving theiropinion.
If you're asking their opinion, they're ready to give it.
So give them an opportunity toshare, and personalized posts
are great for this.
Just very simple questions, maybe a this or that, just
something fun to get themchatting.
So your homework is to scheduleout 12 monthly personalized
(08:11):
posts for the entire year.
If your scheduling softwaredoes not allow this, at least go
ahead and draft out what youare going to schedule and go
ahead and set a reminder, maybean Asana Google Calendar.
Put it in your product joborganizer as a reminder of when
you need to come back toschedule the rest.
If you need examples or ideasof what to schedule each month
(08:32):
or what kind of questions to ask, head to sunkissvacom, forward
slash 24 for the show notes andI have a whole list of questions
ready for you.
The third type of post type thatyou can use to get out of that
content creation rut is a hybridpost.
So it's a mix of a templatedpost with a personalized post.
(08:56):
This post type is typically mygo-to.
Hybrid posts become a themepost that you repeat weekly and
monthly.
So it will give you an idea ofwhat to post each week or month.
But the ability to batch posthybrid posts well in advance may
be limited.
So, because it's not atemplated post, the information
(09:17):
you're putting into this hybridpost is going to need to be
accurate, real time information.
It's not something you canfuture predict, so it's going to
take some work on the spot tocreate.
But at least you have some sortof guide, versus with the
personalized posts, kind oftruly creating it from scratch.
A hybrid post gives you a guide.
(09:39):
So I'll give you a couple ofexamples.
So a birthday post Now.
If you're just asking, everyoneshare your birthday.
If you have a birthday thismonth, that would be a great
template post because you couldjust post that to your group or
your page and let people respond.
But in my membership group, product Drop Organizer Club, I
(10:01):
like to shout out people withcertain birthdays, so I have
their birthdays and I create apost that is directly tied to
those birthdays for that monthso I can recognize them and let
them know they have a littlegift card in their inbox to
celebrate.
Another popular hybrid post istop contributor.
(10:23):
So while the post itself againis templated selecting your
winner every month that's whereit becomes a hybrid post.
Encourage your audience toengage for their chance to win
and maybe, if you want toalleviate the same person
winning each month and give morepeople a chance, you can do a
drawing and maybe give entriesbased on monthly orders.
(10:44):
So like first place gets fiveentries, second place four
entries, third place threeentries, so forth.
If you're looking to set up atop contributor program or you
don't know where to start andyou want way more ideas than
what I just gave, then I'vealready done an episode on this.
Check out episode 17,.
Sunkissvacom forward slash 17.
It's going to be Facebook grouptools top contributor.
(11:07):
I talk all about how to buildyour own top contributor program
, another type of hybrid post.
This one was really popular fora while, but then Facebook, of
course, as it does, changes thetype of posts it allows in
groups and on pages when itcomes to hyperlinking posts.
But it was in case you missedit, i-c-y-m-i.
(11:32):
If you search that on mywebsite, you'll get some more
ideas for that, even a template.
So every Saturday I would do acomplete wrap up of the week so
those who may have missed whathappened in my group or my
business maybe product drops oranything like that they can
easily reference it.
In one place I even highlightedpopular posts or questions that
(11:53):
people had and connect themwith those certain posts.
So how Facebook has changed isit is no longer allowing right
now, at the time of thisrecording of this episode
hyperlink posts.
I taught you how to do that.
If you search that on mywebsite, I see why I how to
build that into a post.
But then now also they're noteven including links in a lot of
(12:17):
the main posts.
So if your group is restrictingthat, this might not work, or
you could still do a fullwriteup of I, c Y, m, I or, in
case you missed it post and givethem a full kind of like
summary wrap up for the week andthen just tell them check the
first comment for all the links.
And you could still use thisstrategy and hybrid posts.
(12:39):
You just got to get a littlebit creative.
Based on the tools provided, you could also take some of
those templated posts and createthem more into hybrid posts, so
it's not just set it and forgetit.
So for a while I was rotating inwhat would you do Wednesday?
So I would give them a certaininstance and ask them what would
(13:01):
you do in this situation?
You know, kind of like those TVshows where you're like
watching the reality shows orthey're like getting punked or
something and it's like, oh mygosh, what would you do in this
situation?
Asking those kinds of questions, because we do that a lot in
the military.
It's called chair flying themission, so you're kind of
walking through step-by-step andmaking sure everyone knows how
(13:23):
they would execute if this wereto happen.
So if you're likely to see thatscenario in the air, you're
better prepared to address itbecause we've already worked
through it.
So that was kind of the ideabehind what would you do
Wednesday?
I actually did the similarthing in my retail group.
It was would you ratherWednesday?
(13:44):
And I would either set up apoll or I could just create a
regular post type.
But it was like super fun.
It's like those middle schoolquestions, like if you just went
to the bookstore and bought oneof those like fun books where
it's like would you rather licka bottom of a foot or would you
rather eat a spider, orsomething like that and my
audience really enjoyed it, somuch so that a couple of weeks
I'm human where I miss it Iwould have members or my
customers post to the group likehey, where's the question today
(14:06):
?
Like they really had fun withthat post.
So that's a good idea for ahybrid post.
So your homework for hybridposts is choose one weekly
hybrid post you want to try.
Again, I recommend trying outthe, in case you missed it, if
you can keep up with it.
Or maybe just do it monthly andcommit to scheduling it every
(14:26):
week or every month.
So just try it for one month ata time and see how your
audience responds.
So let's wrap this episode up.
So if you want to get out ofthat content creation right
beyond a content calendar andyou're wanting to change up kind
of the posts you're providingto your group.
I don't want you to stay stuck.
(14:47):
If you stay stuck and you donothing, that's worse than just
getting something out there, getting it posted and just try.
Or you're not maybe in aposition where you can invest in
a content calendar, or you'renot to that level where you want
to start using one, whereyou're making a post each day.
So this episode is a greatplace to start with either those
(15:11):
template posts, personalizedposts or hybrid posts.
You can get started for free.
I know you're juggling a lot ofthings within your business, not
to mention juggling life as awhole, whether it's wifehood, if
that's a word wifehood I'mrecently engaged, so I'm still
learning the terminologyWifehood, motherhood I'm
(15:33):
recently engaged, so I'm stilllearning the terminology
Wifehood, motherhood.
You're nine to five or maybeyou're trying to remember if you
gave your dog's heartwormmedicine this month, inflantick
or not, or if that was alreadylast month.
Maybe that's just me, butthere's a lot going on.
But engaging with your audienceand scheduling posts is not as
complicated or as scary as youthink it may be.
(15:54):
It's quite simple.
Just pick something and go withit.
If you find something thatworks too.
Don't move on to the next shinypenny.
So if you find a templated postthat they are responding to
like where Wednesday, don't getyour wheels all spun up about
trying to figure out anothertemplate post.
You've already seen that thisworks.
(16:14):
Let's keep doing what's working.
I can't wait to hear what posttype you try and how your
audience responds.
