Amy (00:00):
I started and stopped my email list building journey more
times than I can count, both asa retailer and a virtual
assistant.
My biggest hurdle was decidingon an email service provider,
also known as an ESB.
The options were overwhelming.
Instead of choosing one, Istayed stuck in decision

(00:22):
paralysis and put all of myefforts into social media.
However, I soon realized Iloved social media more than it
loved me, if you know.
You know, and I needed to breakup with the algorithm.
So I got serious again aboutfinding an ESP and landed on

(00:42):
Flodesk in the fall of 2021.
About finding an ESP and landedon Flodesk in the fall of 2021.
Sometimes, as creativeentrepreneurs, we get bored
quickly and change our softwareor strategy or craft.
Y'all know what I'm talkingabout.
Over three years later, thethings that initially drew me
into Flodesk are still why I aman avid subscriber today.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
So throw on your favorite graphic tee and turn up
the heat press because it'stime to turn down the hustle.
Here's your host.
Digital marketer.
Cold brew lover.
T-shirt maker, freckled hypegirl and owner of Sunkist
Virtual Assistant, amy.

Amy (01:35):
Let's get started with.
Where did Flodesk even comefrom?
It was started and founded in2018 by Martha and Rebecca, and
reading more about the reasonswhy they decided to start
Flodesk really resonated with meas a business owner.

(01:55):
Their vision was to reduce thehassle of crafting emails.
It shouldn't be complicated andit shouldn't take hours.
It shouldn't be complicated andit shouldn't take hours.
Instead, that time spent tryingto craft emails is lost time
and you could have been usingthat time to either fulfill
orders or spend time with family.
I really love this about them.

(02:17):
They saw a gap in the industrythat didn't have easy to use
templates or email marketing.
They took all of the areas thatother ESPs were not doing well
or not doing at all and createda business out of it.
They couldn't find an existingsolution to a problem, so they
solved it themselves, and I canrelate to that.

(02:39):
At Sunkist Virtual Assistant, Irealized that creative
entrepreneurs were stuck notposting on social media, kind of
heard about tea parties butdidn't really know exactly how
to do it, and I had this ideawhat if I start to build
step-by-step plans on how theycan achieve a tea party or post

(02:59):
on social media, like it doesn'thave to be overwhelming or
confusing or waste time.
And then then came SunkistVirtual Assistant.
And in 2022, in January, Irealized I was taking on clients
.
But boy, I had more clientsthan time in the day.
What if I could help anunlimited amount of people just
by creating courses or digitaldownloads or products that would

(03:22):
allow them to execute it ontheir own without necessarily
needing me to walk them throughstep-by-step or wait till I'm
available?
So again from the jump Flowdust, their founders story and the
reasons why they startedFlowdust, I resonated with Not
to mention a woman foundedcompany.

(03:44):
I am all for supporting that.
So once I learned more aboutwhere does this company come
from?
Who founded it?
What's their story?
You know?
The next thing I looked for howmuch does it cost?
My major mental block was as Igrow my email list, or as I want

(04:05):
to send more emails, I wouldhave to pay more money as my
email list grew.
For me, that felt verycounterintuitive.
Like I want to grow my emaillist, but not so much that it's
going to bunk me into the nextbracket or I'm going to be
constantly stressing over hey, they're not opening my emails.

(04:26):
This is costing me money.
I'm going to remove them, versus taking a different
strategy or approach.
When starting my email list, Ienvisioned having thousands on
my list, which thankfully, todayI have accomplished, and after
a quick look at other ESPs, Irealized my dream would cost me

(04:47):
at a minimum $60 a month, notincluding as those rates
increase.
Oh, by the way, they also havean email send limit.
That's not just subscribers, that's capping your emails on
how many you could send.
Since starting my email listjourney with Flodesk, I have

(05:08):
successfully grown my email listto just shy of 5,000
subscribers and a consistent 35%to 50% open rate.
I am extremely happy withFlodesk and what it's allowed me
to do for my business.
I actually joined Flodesk intheir early days, during their
beta launch, so in 2021, theywere still in beta mode and I

(05:28):
personally locked in a lifetimerate of $19 per month, and it
feels great knowing I can growmy business with a platform that
supports my growth without anyadditional fees.
However, what does that mean foryou today?
So Flowdust offers a 30 dayfree trial and you don't have to
put in your credit card Like.

(05:49):
There are no catches, nogimmicks, nothing like that.
You can truly sign up forFlowdust for 30 days free, check
out the show notes or go tosunkissvacom forward slash 26 to
grab that link and try out allof the features.
Poke around, see what I'mtalking about as I talk through
this episode so you can followalong.
And then, after those 30 daysare free, you can't send any

(06:13):
emails.
You can still play around withyour account, but until you
enter your credit card you can'tcontinue.
After those 30 days, and onceyou activate with your credit
card, your first year will be50% off the entire year.
So that is $19 a month, whatI'm enjoying right now.

(06:33):
You'll have that for the firstyear.
So, once again, you havenothing to lose that first year
with $19 a month After yourfirst year is up.
Currently, at the time of thisrecording of this episode, it is
$38 a month or $35 a month ifyou pay for a year at a time.
Another reason why I loveFlodesk is just how easy the

(06:56):
platform is to use and theintuitive functions and email
builders throughout the software.
If you look at reviews on otherESPs the majority of the
feedback when people don't likeit it's because it's
overwhelming or confusing orthey just could not figure it
out.
I've heard that quite a bitabout other ESPs, but Flodesk

(07:19):
was designed for those who donot have a full-fledged
marketing team.
Would it be amazing to grow ourbusiness to the point where we
have to hire a team?
Yeah, that'd be great, but weshould not have to wait until we
have a team to build our emaillist.
It's almost kind of turninginto which came first the
chicken or the egg situation.

(07:39):
Flodesk is also packed full oftemplates to get you started as
well.
Any newer feature they justreleased is that we can share
templates now.
So if you're part of my productdrop organizer club, you know I
provide email templates eachmonth where I've written it all
out for you.
All you got to do is just addyour own touch, throw in your

(08:03):
products and make sure it fitsyour brand voice and schedule
that email.
Now I can build those emailsdirectly in Flodesk, format them
all for you.
You just open up that templateand probably in a few minutes
you're ready to schedule thatemail.
Super simple to use with all oftheir templates.
I get the question a lot likehey, amy, well, I'm already

(08:24):
using the built-in features ofmy website to collect emails and
I'm sending emails that way.
Isn't that enough?
Why do I need another ESPservice provider.
Isn't that enough?
Why do I?
Why do I need another ESPservice provider?
Well, for starts, what yourwebsite host is providing for

(08:47):
you is truly just the surfacelayer to email marketing.
There is so much more to emailmarketing beyond just sending a
random 10% off email here andthere or a band and cart.
We're segmenting, we'rebuilding funnels, we have time
sequences, we're getting opt-insand providing different value
offers beyond just a discount toget them onto your email list.
And what happens when you decideto pause your website?

(09:10):
We've all been there in seasonswhere you realize hey look, I
personally don't think that I'mat a point where I can continue
to pay this website fee.
I'm going to take a break.
Well, if you pause your websiteand that was also what you were
using for emails now you're nolonger collecting emails to grow
your email list.
Well, with Flodesk, you don'thave to have a website to

(09:34):
collect emails and send emails.
So that's a big misconception.
What you can do in Flodesk is,if you go to the forms tab,
select full page form, you cancreate a beautiful opt-in page
to have people join your list.
Have that pinned in yourFacebook groups or your socials,

(09:54):
wherever you are, in all ofyour tea parties.
Even if you don't have awebsite, you can still collect
emails and grow your email list, believe it or not.
Flotas actually added a feature,I want to say, maybe a year and
a half ago.
It's actually checkout.
So, I just mentioned, you don'tneed a website to be building

(10:16):
your email list, which iscompletely true, but if you are
only selling a few products andagain you either don't have the
time or the energy to build afull fledged website, you can
actually build pages to sellfrom through Flodesk If you have
a product you want to sell.
What's really cool, too, isthat they don't keep a

(10:37):
commission of your sales.
All you have to do is just paythat Stripe processing fee.
Checkout, though, is anadditional add on each month,
though it's not included withthe basic unlimited plan price,
so you would have to pay a bitmore each month, but it is an
option for somebody that hasmaybe gone through a season of

(10:57):
overwhelm where you don't wantto build a website right now or
you have it paused.
Whatever your situation may be,flodesk does have a checkout
option, which is pretty coolbecause you could sell directly
in your emails and lead themstraight to the checkout.
Let's talk about who Flodeskintegrates with.
So currently you can integrateyour Instagram feed so it can

(11:20):
appear at the bottom of youremails or wherever you want it
to appear in your emails.
It'll automatically sync yourmost recent posts.
You can customize that block tohowever many posts you want to
share, what you want it to looklike.
It also automatically anddirectly integrates with Shopify
.
So as people join your emaillist from Shopify maybe at

(11:43):
checkout they select yes, I'dlike to receive email marketing
you can have that automaticallyimported into Flodesk so they
can join your email list toemail them.
Also, if you use any quizsoftware, such as Interact, it
will automatically integratethere along with Marvelist.
If you have any courses, theywill integrate Flodesk along

(12:06):
with Session.
So if you're taking moreservice-based clients, you can
integrate with Flowdesk.
So if you're taking moreservice-based clients, you can
integrate with Flodesk.
However, it's not limited there.
While those are the onlyintegrations at this time that
directly work with Flodesk, youcan connect a multitude of other
third-party softwares usingeither Zapier or Pably Connect.

(12:27):
I personally use Zapier.
A few of the instances there isif customers buy a certain
product, I have Zapier.
What's called a Zap.
I have a Zap created wherewhenever it recognizes that
action has been taken or thatproduct has been purchased, the
Zap will send to Flodesk andautomatically add people to that

(12:49):
email segment.
Also, I have a Google Sheetwhere if I'm typing in first
name, last name email into aGoogle Sheet, I also have
another Zap built that willautomatically add individuals to
a segment, depending on whatthe situation is or if I get a
Google form response, I can haveit automatically add them to a

(13:11):
segment as well.
So Zapier, it's an amazing tool.
After you check out Flodesk, you should check out Zapier.
It's pretty cool how you canmake all of your different apps
work together and they're allconnected through Zapier.
When it comes to branding inFlodesk, what you can do is once
you go into my account and hitthe branding tab, you can add

(13:34):
your logo.
That will appear anytime youadd the logo block.
Also, go ahead and upload yourbrand colors.
They used to cap it at, I thinkit was like six colors.
Now they're up to 10 now, soyou can have those colors at at
once, kind of like Canva, andthen they're easily accessible
whenever you're building emails.
You can also upload your ownfont.

(13:56):
So whatever your brand font is,upload that into Flodesk and
you can use that for your emails.
Whenever you use a custom fontblock, add your website so that
will also link to your logoanytime someone clicks it.
So that will also link to yourlogo anytime someone clicks it.
Also, your social links.
There are so many social linksyou can add through float us

(14:17):
just to name a few Instagram, facebook, pinterest, youtube,
podcasts.
Let me see what else do Irecognize here?
Your Amazon, your Etsy threads, vimeo, tiktok, spotify.
So many different social linksthat you can add.
Pretty sure that's more thanwhat Shopify even offers on

(14:40):
their own website.
There are tons of social linksthat you can add in your setup
for Flodesk to be added at thebottom of every email.
Added at the bottom of everyemail.
Finally, why I love Flodesk istheir analytics tab.
When I join, this tab did notexist, so I even chose Flodesk,

(15:02):
even without knowing I didn'thave the ability to analyze all
of the emails I send at a glance, but now they've since added
that.
So that is a huge bonus featurefor Flodesk, so you can analyze
multiple different areas ofyour email marketing at a time,
whether it's subscribers,certain emails, opt-in forms,
workflows and even yourcheckouts.

(15:23):
If you're using that to try toconvert, you can look at how
many new subscribers have yougotten in the last X number of
weeks.
Where did they come from?
Like.
Are they coming from Shopify?
Are they coming from a certainform?
You can see their activity outof you, like.
How many subscribers did youlose?
How many did you gain?
Which segment of thesubscribers is performing the

(15:49):
best?
So the subscribers and yournewsletter segment is performing
better than maybe yoursweatshirt segment, whatever it
is.
You can start to compare thetwo.
Also, emails I love this tab.
It starts to show you the bestday to send emails.
You can start to analyze whenwere people the most active on
which days.
Also, when did people open youremails?

(16:11):
When are they most active?
Along with, are they opening iton a desktop, a mobile device
and, if you scroll all the wayto the bottom, super powerful
performance by email.
Take a look at what your subjectline was and see how it
performed.
Is there a subject line thatperforms better than others?

(16:35):
What were your worst performingsubject lines?
This is a great area to takenote of that.
So that's just a few reasonswhy I love Flodesk, if any of
them resonated with you andyou're wanting to try it out?
Head to the show notessunkissvacom forward, slash 26,.
Grab the link.

(16:56):
It'll get you all the detailsto get started and you can start
investing in something you own.
What do I mean by that?
You do not own your socialmedia followers.
You don't own your Facebookgroup.
You are at the mercy ofFacebook's changing dynamics, or
whatever social media platformyou're using their algorithm.

(17:18):
You are at their mercy.
Or what if there is an incidentor an accident and somehow
you're locked out of youraccount or your group disappears
?
We all know people that hashappened to Then where do they
start Over from scratch?
You're not going to do that ifyou start investing in building
an email list.

(17:38):
Don't even get me started onhow difficult it is to reach
your customers on social media.
But the main focus is you canstart building your email list
with a list of subscribers thatare your subscribers.
You own that list.
We're not going to build ourhouse on borrowed land.
