Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey friends, welcome back to the podcast.
Today we are gearing up for oneof the biggest events of the
year the big game on February9th 2025.
If you know, you know, the biggame isn't just about football.
It is a huge opportunity forsmall businesses like yours to
bring excitement to yourcustomers.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
You're listening to Tear Down the Hustle, the
podcast dedicated totransforming how you run your
creative online t-shirt businessby working smarter, not harder,
so you can spend more time withyour why, people and passions
that matter most in your life.
So throw on your favoritegraphic tee and turn up the heat
press because it's time to turndown the hustle.
Here's your host digitalmarketer.

(00:41):
Cold brew lover, t-shirt maker, freckled hype girl and owner of
Sunkist Virtual Assistant Amy.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
In this episode, I'm going to walk you through
step-by-step how to host aspecial game day event that will
wow your customers and keepthem coming back for more.
Plus, we're also going to divea little bit into the legal side
of things and why you can't usecertain words surrounding the
big game and your marketing.
But don't worry, I've got tipsto keep you compliant and

(01:11):
creative.
Let's dive in.
Let's talk about why a game dayevent works for your business.
First things first.
I want to cover with you thingsthat were discovered by
PRNewsWirecom and regardingpeople that were on their phones
, specifically, even the onesthat attended the big game.
They used an AI technologycalled Missing the Big Game and

(01:34):
it helped them share real-timedata of how many fans in the
stadium were actually looking attheir phones instead of the
field.
Imagine how much money peopleattended this game and still
were looking at your phones.
So here are the field.
Imagine how much money peopleattended this game and still
were looking at your phones.
So here are the numbers Over16,000 fans missed touchdowns
throughout the game because theywere looking at their phone.
During halftime, 6,100 fanswere watching their phones

(01:58):
instead of the show and in thefinal stretch, 4,300 fans were
looking at their phones insteadof a winning field goal.
How crazy is that?
That was for the 2023 SuperBowl Insane, right.
So if we know people are goingto be looking at their phones,
that doesn't even include thepeople that are at home.
Why not give them something tolook at?

(02:18):
And that's what we're going todo through our event.
This big game.
There's so much excitementsurrounding it.
People are excited and having aparty is a great way to drive
engagement and sales.
Game day is about community, sosome of them are getting
together Fun and excitement, andit's perfect for a one-day

(02:38):
flash sale or party.
Versus just saying, hey, flashsale, come buy my stuff.
We're actually going to givethem an event that's housed
online through your VIP group.
It's a great way to sell themeditems.
We'll go over that, clear outthe inventory and create some
hype.
This is where I'm bringing youthe one-day party script.
Shout out to Queen Bee Graphicsand Designs for providing these

(02:59):
football graphics.
You can check out her websiteand buy tons more of engagement
graphics and party graphics.
And then I have created thestructure.
Put all of these graphicstogether in a plan with captions
and placeholders for up to 40tees or any other handmade items
you want to sell.
So for the breakdown for thefirst half of the game you're
going to showcase 20 products.

(03:20):
For the second half of the game, you're going to showcase
another 20 products.
I recommend you theme up these20 so you have two different
themes.
Maybe think about maybe peoplewho are watching these games
like, what kind of things dothey like?
They might really like sports,so that could be a good theme to
run.
It doesn't have to necessarilybe football related, it could be

(03:40):
any sports during the game.
It could be funny, like spouseshirts.
You know, probably a lot of thewives are maybe not interested
in football, I don't know.
So you can play that up too, because I'm sure they might be
able to get their spouse to handover a credit card without
looking during the game.
Just get them to be quiet.
I can attest to that one time.
Actually, yes, it's happened acouple of times, but I am a

(04:05):
college football fan, I'm not anNFL football fan.
That's just how I grew up andwhen I got married to my husband
I did not realize like NFL ison Thursday and then it's back
on Sunday and then it's back onMonday, like it never ends.
It felt like in one weekend myhusband gave me like $200 and
was like just go to Target, gowherever, and he actually paid

(04:26):
me off to just leave the houseso he could watch football in
peace.
So, moving on to the legal sideof throwing a party for the big
game, so avoiding trademarkviolations, I do want to caveat.
I am not an attorney, we're atrademark authority official,
we're specialists.
I recommend you go check outthe website yourself to figure
out which is actuallytrademarked or not, to verify

(04:48):
the information I'm providingyou.
But I'm just giving you kind ofa wave top idea.
So you cannot use the wordSuper Bowl in your marketing or
advertising.
You can't use even Super Sundaythat is also trademarked or any
other NFL related trademarkslike team names or logos, in
your marketing materials, product descriptions or graphics
.
If you're going to do this, youare doing that at your own risk

(05:09):
and I think you might find thatit's not really worth it.
Why these terms are trademarkedby the NFL and using them
without their permission couldrun into a legal situation with
cease and desist letters orworse, referencing motherhoodcom
.
The word Super bowl wasactually trademarked back in
1969, so this year, wheneveryou're watching the commercials,

(05:31):
notice that they'll have afootball theme to all of their
commercials.
But even the commercials thatare airing during the super bowl
aren't even super bowl relatedor they don't mention the super
bowl unless they have expresspermission.
The nfl takes these trademarksvery seriously and they do
enforce them.
I also recommend that you donot use football players' names
either, just to be safe.

(05:52):
And if you try to throw outthere I'm not an official
sponsor of the Super Bowl ortrying to give a caveat that's
not going to fly.
That does not give youpermission to use the terms.
So what can you say?
You can say things like the biggame or big game.
Stick to just generic footballterms, but based on your party.
Given the day that the event isoccurring, people can kind of

(06:12):
put two and two together.
I recommend you stick togeneric football shapes and
themes.
Even just using the city alonewith the football, without
referencing the actual team name, is a good way to go.
So just please be cautious withthe wording you use.
If you're going to have somekind of event online, let's move
on to how to host your bigparty event online, the first

(06:34):
thing you're going to need to do, like we talked about earlier,
is you need to plan out yourinventory.
I want you to choose 40 itemsto split into two groups.
So ideally you're running 20items in the first half, 20
items in the second.
So again, some good ideas couldbe some best sellers that you
might have, any ready to shipitems or any other theme
products that tie into game day, like a sports theme or, if you

(06:55):
wanted to do something funny of,like spouse is spending money.
So we're going to need tocreate hype around this event.
You can use some of Queen B'sgraphics to create some of this
excitement.
There's a graphic in hercollection that has, like come
join my party and let them knowwhat they can expect.
You can also post a few teasersalong the way as well.

(07:16):
Don't forget to update yourFacebook group cover photo, too,
with all of these details, andyou can also create an event so
people can mark attending.
It might help them getnotifications for the event, but
then make sure you direct themthat the event is going to take
place inside of your VIP group.
But creating an event for yourFacebook business page would be
great, because that's public andyou can draw attention back

(07:36):
into your group.
So this game day structure isreally broken off into four
pieces.
The first part is going to belike the tailgating portion of
this, and so you're going tohave like four to five posts
where you're just going to getthem excited throughout the day
and tell them what's cominglater on.
But the bulk of the party isactually happening during the
big game.
What I want you to do too, ifyou can try to go 15 minutes

(07:58):
live before the event to buildexcitement and then talk about
some of the rules and give themsome sneak peeks, especially if
you have any ready to ship items, that would be a great time to
get some of their attention.
But don't let them buy on thelive.
Tell them that they need tojoin the party and be quick and
ready to go all right.
So at kickoff that's whenyou're going to start posting
your party content you're goingto play some games and also

(08:19):
start to sprinkle out your 20items.
In my Tea Party Planner I'vealready broken this out with you
based on times, so you can keepthat pace lively to maintain
that energy.
So at halftime this is a greatway to maybe pause the post for
now, just because people, ideally, are tuned into the
halftime show and then make sureyou throw in a post saying hey,
what'd you guys think of theshow?
That is a great conversationstarter and a think of the show.

(08:47):
That is a great conversationstarter and a lot of people love
giving their feedback on whatthey thought of the halftime
show.
Then, going into the secondhalf, you're going to bring the
energy back up with 20 moreitems and encourage them to grab
their favorites before theysell out.
Also, remind them that theparty is closing at midnight.
If you don't prefer to close itat midnight, then you can just
close it 24 hours later and makesure that they get paid Once
third round is posted or yourthird round of engagement is
posted with the second half.
Make sure after the event, youtake a time to send emails to

(09:11):
your participants to say thankyou if they're opted into your
marketing, make sure they'retracking when they can expect
their order, and then also youcan post a recap in your groups,
highlight the top selling itemsof the party and things like
that.
You can really do some funthings with it.
The first one is social media, because that's where the party's
happening.
You can post lead ups on yourbusiness page stories, instagram
, all that good stuff to buildthat hype around the party.

(09:33):
And good news is, people arealready looking forward to this
event, so you're really justadding fuel to the fire.
You can also use countdowntimers on your stories to count
down to the big game things likethat.
Also utilize polls on stories.
Those are a fun way to engageas well.
Don't forget my favorite emailmarketing.

(09:54):
Make sure you announce theevent to your email subscribers.
If you are in my product joborganizer club, a reminder for
your football event is alreadybaked into the templates I've
given you, so you can alsoinclude a special sneak peek to
those that are on your emaillist to come back.
If you have exclusive itemsthat you haven't offered before,
even better.
We talked about that Facebookgroup event to encourage people
to RSVP, and then also, if youhave any teaser graphics, you

(10:17):
can kind of blur those out aswell and get the excitement
going for what might be to come.
So I hope, through this episode, that I have encouraged you to
get out there and plan somethingfun for the big game, but I
also really wanted to bringawareness to you about certain
items or words you should stayaway from.
Try to make a good thing couldturn into a bad thing if you're
not careful with the words thatyou're using.

(10:39):
But I hope this episode hashyped you up to host your own
game day event.
The words that you're using?
But I hope this episode hashyped you up to host your own
game day event.

designs, or just it's a chanceto get new customers too, this
