Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hey y'all, welcome
back to another episode of Turn
Down the Hustle.
You are listening to an episodethat is part of a special
series.
Every Monday.
I'm dropping a very quick thingthat you can do as mini
challenges to move the ballforward in your business.
We are focusing on workingsmarter, not harder.
(00:23):
Now that we're a couple ofmonths into 2025, I have to ask
you guys how are thesechallenges going so far for you?
Are they helping you get moreorganized, helping you
streamline your business?
I'd love to hear what's workingfor you and what wins you've
had so far, maybe even a few ahamoments.
This week, we're talking aboutsomething that will save you a
(00:44):
ton of time and make yourbusiness look polished and
professional setting up a brandkit in Canva.
So today we're covering whybranding matters and it's
probably more than you thinkalso how to set up a brand kit
in Canva step by step, and howto use high quality designs in
minutes, not hours.
(01:05):
So why does a brand kit matteranyways?
Branding isn't just for the bigbusinesses.
It's for anyone which hopefullyis also you who wants to be
recognized, consistent andprofessional.
Whether you're selling shirts, handmade goods or digital
products, we want our brand tobe recognizable.
(01:26):
Why?
The first thing is becausebranding builds trust.
Think about some of thebusinesses you buy from
regularly.
Chances are they have arecognizable look and feel when
people see a post from you.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
You want them to know
that it's yours before they
even see their name you.
You want them to know that it'stime to turn down the hustle.
Here's your host.
Digital marketer, cold brewlover, t-shirt maker, freckled
hype girl and owner of SunkistVirtual Assistant, amy.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
How many times have
you been scrolling your feed?
See something funny, read it,go to tag somebody and then,
before you realize it, theperson that you would have
tagged is actually the personthat shared it.
So, for instance, my friendCaitlin.
There's things on Facebook Isee all the time and I go to tag
her and then I laugh whenever Irealize wait, she shared it.
My point on that is that wewant your customers to have the
(02:37):
same feeling.
We want them to be able torecognize your post, your brand,
your products before they evenhave to take a second to scroll
up a little bit more to confirm.
Also, number two, that brandkit makes marketing effortless.
Have you ever stared at a blankCanva design, wondering where
(02:59):
to start, what colors to use, what font, what layout, things
like that?
Or maybe you found yourselfusing 10 different fonts in a
single post, or you make a postin one font, next font for the
next post, and you just don'tknow which one you like best.
A brand kit will eliminate thatguesswork because it has you
(03:19):
narrowed down what colors areyou going to use and stick to?
What fonts are you going to useand stick to?
You don't have to reinvent thewheel every time.
Which leads me to the thirdreason.
It saves you time.
Again, you know, a theme hereis working smarter, not harder,
and building that brand kitmeans you can create content
faster, including social mediaposts, your product mock-ups or
(03:42):
any graphics that you need touse for marketing, and you can
do that without reinventing thewheel every single time.
Let's move into how to set upyour brand kit in Canva If you
don't already have a Canva Proaccount.
This is one of the featuresthat makes it worth it.
The brand kit is a built-intool that allows you to save all
of your branding elementscolors, fonts, logos and now, at
(04:06):
the recording of this episode, even preset templates so you can
easily access.
So I want you to log into Canvaand then on your far left menu
you're going to see it's thefourth icon down that says brand
.
I want you to select that.
The first thing that will openup for you is your brand kit, so
click that and then you can setup multiple different brand
(04:28):
kits.
So ideally, you have one thatis just set for your business.
These are your business colors,it has all of your logos, all
of those good things.
But if you run any uniquepromotions or for certain events
where maybe the brand is skeweda little bit with different
colors, then you can also buildthat within the brand kit.
So I want you to go to the farright and select add new.
(04:51):
From there, you can name yourbrand kit whatever you want to
name it.
Once you have it open, you'll beable to now organize, versus
back in the day, we should justupload all of our logos in the
photo section of Canva and thenhave to scroll down to try to
find them all the time.
But now you can take all ofyour logos.
To my knowledge, there isn't alimit to how many logos you can
(05:13):
have.
I currently have 22 differentvariations.
Upload all of your logos there.
Moving down to your colors, thisis where you're going to add
all of your colors by colorpalette.
Name the hex codes to make sureyou get them spot on.
Moving on to your fonts, so ifyou have a special font that
(05:34):
you've bought, you can uploadthem here.
You can even add your brandvoice, because there's some cool
apps that are added to Canvawith some AI and you can tool
with those.
And then the last few sectionsare photos, graphics and icons.
So if you have certain thingsthat you want to add to those
sections, you can.
(05:54):
For instance, in the graphicsarea, I have all of my branded
shirt tags, so they're not likea watermark, but I am constantly
adding them to my gang sheetsto get printed with the
different sizes, in case someonerips out the sizing tag.
They'll have that there, so Isave those in the graphics
(06:15):
section.
When you're thinking about yourbrand colors, I want you to
stick to three to five colorsthat represent your brand.
Think about your vibe.
Are you bold, high energy, maybe some brighter colors and
vibrant, or are you more neutral, modern, boho?
Maybe you want to go for moreearthy tones or pastels.
(06:36):
And again, don't forget to grabthose hex codes and save them
there.
Working back to those fonts, when you're working through
those fonts, I want you to havetwo.
You could have maybe a thirdfor an accent font, but really
those main two.
One is going to be forheadlines Think bold and
(06:56):
lettering so it's easy to readwhenever someone's scrolling and
then one body text.
This has to be easy to read, very clean and simple.
While it might not grabattention, it will allow someone
to easily read what you havetyped out, probably for your
body text.
This is not one of the texts orone of the fonts that you have
(07:17):
bought online.
It's probably just a verygeneric font and then, like I
alluded to, you can have anaccent font, maybe something
cursive, but it complements theothers, but it's not too fancy
because, again, too many of thescript fonts are very hard to
read.
When you're uploading your logo, think about a full color logo.
(07:40):
Think about, maybe, a black andwhite logo.
Make sure that background isalso transparent.
I like to have logos that areall white, logos that are all
black.
So, depending on the backgroundthat I use, I can pull
different variations of my logoonto the graphic.
And then, lastly, what I'll talkabout is the brand templates.
(08:01):
This is really cool.
These are like set Canvadesigns.
You can mark them as a template.
So if you're finding yourselfconstantly duplicating and
reiterating different versionsand creating different things,
okay.
The last thing is brandtemplates.
So if you find yourselfconstantly saving as copying,
(08:22):
copying for different designsthat you have, you can actually
just set one master Canvatemplate and then just duplicate
from that template all the time.
Okay.
So now that you have everythingset up, it's time to put it to
use for your content creation.
So first you can start tocreate some templates for social
media.
Set up just a few of thesego-to posts.
(08:44):
Again, these can go into yourbrand templates.
Think about quote graphics, newarrival posts, promotional
posts, all of that good stuff.
That way, all you have to do isswap out the text and images,
while keeping everything onbrand.
You're also going to be able towork through your content a lot
faster, because now, wheneveryou're working from a design,
(09:05):
when you click that brand button, all you have to do is select
your colors, your fonts.
They're right there in thatleft column.
You don't have to hunt for themanymore.
And remember, when you keep allof your consistent coloring,
fonts and brand, thatconsistency aids in building
trust and enhancing thatprofessionalism, not to mention
(09:29):
keeping everything cohesive, which I love, which I love.
All right.
So that's it.
In summary, your brand kit isthat shortcut to consistency and
it also will help you createhigh quality content fast.
Did I mention consistent?
Yeah, it will all be consistent.
No more wasting time searchingfor fonts, colors or logos.
(09:50):
It's all organized and ready togo inside of your brand kit.
You have to set up a brand kitinside of Canva.
Until next time, keep turningdown the hustle.
