Danielle La Rose (00:47):
Have you ever listened to a podcast where the
person literally sounded like analien?
Well, you're in for a treat, because I was getting ready to
upload this podcast episodetoday, which I'm so excited for
you to listen to, because themessage is powerful, and when I
listened, I heard two spots thatyou will recognize where I
literally sound like an alien.
I don't know what happened, butwe are going to roll with it,

(01:09):
because nothing in life has tobe perfect at my right or my
right.
So I was about to scrap it andredo it, but I thought no, this
was good, the message is thereand you can handle hearing me
sound like an alien for lessthan 10 seconds.
Right, I hope you enjoy.
Maybe you'll have a littlelaugh.
Anyways, enjoy this episode.
Thanks for being here and enjoythe alien.

(01:31):
Yo, okay, I just had theweirdest, most magical fun
experience, a full circle momentthat I got to share with you,
because if you will do what Idid, I think that you will see
similar effects.
Here's the deal, yo, all right, put on one of my favorite tank

(01:52):
tops just yesterday because Iwas like feeling it.
You know, I was getting readyto go teach.
I teach group fitness classes,so my class yesterday was Turbo
Kick.
So it's like fun punch kick, cardio kick, boxing style, but
to like some fun music.
So of course, you twerk it.
Well, I twerk it sometimes, youknow, it's just a lot of fun,

(02:12):
it's loud music, it's great, oneof my favorite classes ever to
teach.
So I was getting ready and I'mlike, okay, what's the vibe,
what am I feeling like wearingtoday?
And so now let me also be veryhonest.
Main reason for this choice.
Second main reason for thischoice was because the rest of
my clothes were dirty.
Okay, I just got back fromtraveling, so I haven't unpacked

(02:34):
my suitcase yet, because whodoes that right away?
And if you do, don't comfort me.
But so just full transparency,okay.
So I was limited with myoptions.
However, I did have a greatoption, which was one of my
favorite new team tops that Ijust got from Love Her and it
was on sale even better.
But the quote on it was what Iwas going for.

(02:57):
So it says the world needs you,the world needs you.
And I was like, hmm, I lovethis today.
It's the vibe that I need, it'sthe it's, it's.
You know, sometimes you justneed your clothes to tell you
what to think.
You just need your clothes totell you what to do.
You know the motivationalquotes.
I am here for it.

(03:18):
So the world needs you.
So, as I was driving to my classit takes me about 40, 45
minutes to get there and I'mdriving and I'm like you know
what?
The world needs you.
The world, the world needs you.
And I just keep repeating itall different ways the world
needs you, the world needs you,the world needs you, the world
needs you.
You know, I just had like awhole vibe going.

(03:39):
I just kept repeating it and Iwas like, okay, I feel like
there's a message here that Ineed today.
So I kept thinking it.
I kept saying I'm like, okay, the world needs you, the world
needs you, the world needs youas you are.

(04:00):
The world doesn't need you toshow up as somebody else.
The world needs you.
And so I kept thinking aboutthis and I'm like, okay, but who
do I need to be for the world?
And I instantly stopped myselfand I said that's the wrong

(04:21):
question to ask.
I need to stop asking myselfwho does the world need me to be
?
Who does my class need me to be?
Who does my family need me tobe?
Who does you know the girls onmy girl empowerment program, who
do they need me to be?
No, no, no.
I'm asking who do they need meto be?

(04:41):
Because when I'm trying to showup and be who they need me to
be, I'm not being me, and if theworld needs you, then you have
to be you.
So I just kept thinking that tomyself.

(05:04):
I'm like, okay, the world needsyou.
Stop asking yourself who youneed to be for everybody else,
right?
Because, especially when I gointo my group fitness classes, I
think what do they need to heartoday, what do they need to
feel today?
And I think this every singletime I go into my class, because
my desire is that I truly helppeople transform their lives,
that they make fitness fun andthey enjoy the class and they

(05:26):
leave and that is a rippleeffect for the days to come,
that they remember that classand they remember how they felt
and they can pour.
You know they can just, youknow, lean into that when times
get tough and they don't feellike it, they don't want to move
forward, they struggle and theydon't think that they can be
who they want to be.
I really want them to lean intothat, and so I really put it on

(05:46):
my shoulders that when I gointo every single class, it's
not about the workout, it's notabout me being their instructor.
It's really about how can Ihelp them transform their lives.
And so it comes from a place oftrue desire to help women love
their bodies and step into theirconfidence and enjoy fitness.
So it comes from this positiveplace.

(06:07):
But if I am trying to be whothey need me to be, I'm losing
out on who I am.
Right, I'm not.
I'm not focused on me, I'mfocused on them, which sometimes
can be a really positive thing.
But in this moment I was likeyou know what?
Maybe that's the message theworld needs you, and if I keep
trying to show up and ask who doI need to be for them, I'm

(06:30):
missing out on pouring it andreally standing in my power of
who I am.
And maybe if I pour it andfocus on who I am and who I need
to be for me, maybe the impactthat I make on my class and my

(06:51):
programs with my clients, withmy family, maybe the impact
would be even bigger, becausenow I'm being more of who I am
and maybe that's what the worldneeds.
Yes, I had this wholemotivational pep talk with
myself in a 40 minute ride to myclass.
You know, that's where mythoughts started going.

(07:12):
I was like, okay, I'm gonna,I'm gonna, I'm gonna record this
right now for my podcast.
But then I started recordingand you could hear me driving
and I was like I gotta be safehere.
So I decided to wait and sharethis with you today, because
it's the important message thatI think I know we all need to
hear.
So ask me yourself who you, whoyou need to be for them, and ask

(07:35):
yourself, who do I need to befor me?
Because the world needs you atyour best, doing what you need,
feeling how you need to feel.
Yes, and when you're you, whenyou're showing up into the world
as that version of yourself, the you that is the most you you

(07:57):
empower and inspire the peoplearound you to do the same.
And guess what?
Your energy increases your, your excitement increases your
power, your confidence, your joy, your everything just elevates
so high because you are standingin who you are.
Here's how I know that to betrue.
I went to my class, okay, so Ihad this whole little pep talk

(08:20):
and I'm like, okay, be you.
What does that mean for me?
Now, I also should share withyou that when I go to my class,
I don't prep anything ahead oftime.
I literally show up to classand I get a vibe and I decide
through the class how I lead theclass, what workouts we're
going to do, what music we'regoing to have.
Now, I choose the music aheadof time.
So I'm like okay, what do I?

(08:43):
How can I prepare for this?
To be the most me?
I'm like I need the rightplaylist.
So I am listening to my songsas I'm going, as I'm driving.
Choose a playlist, got it Allright.
This one feels like me.
I'm like oh, yeah, girl, weabout to get down.
You know what I'm saying?
Like that, one song comes onand it's supposed to be like
four punches across and, likeyou know, doing like fitnessy

(09:05):
things.
And of course, I'm just like, ooh, that's a good, drop it like
a slow spot.
You know what I mean.
Drop it like it's hot.
Yeah, okay.
So I'm getting this vibe andI'm like okay, this is my jam,
this is good.
Okay, I go into class.
What do you know?
New, new, new people are inclass today.
If you're a group fitnessinstructor.
You know how exciting that is.
You're like, yes, new people, this is so fun, our class is

(09:28):
growing and new people get toexperience this and it's so fun.
And so I'm like, okay, this isa great sign.
We got a full class today.
This is great, I'm feeling good.
And then I start just doingthings that just I haven't done
in a really long time but arejust so me right.
I do the torque, a torque.
At some times I turn around toclass, I'm yelling at them, I'm

(09:49):
jumping, I'm doing it.
You know like a whole new level.
And I end class.
Class ends, you know, at theend we do our stretch, so it's
calm, and then everyone's quietand it's you know, it's a Monday
anyway, so everyone's chill.
And as soon as we end, one ofmy girls that's been with me for
a long time she says that wasone of the best classes that

(10:12):
you've taught, like that was sogood.
And then everyone startschiming in oh my gosh, it really
was, that was so good, weworked so hard that that felt.
That was so good, that was somuch fun.
And I was like, really, becauseI didn't feel like anything
changed.
Nothing changed.
The playlist was a littledifferent, but for the most part

(10:34):
the beats and everything arethe same.
The punches and the kicks areall about the same, they go in
different, you know differenttimes and stuff, but for the
most part, you know, most ofthat was the same.
Nothing dramatic happened,nothing dramatic changed.
But what had changed?
Well, I'm going to show that ina second, because again, they
just kept throwing all thesethings at me and I was like man,

(10:55):
you're going to give me a bighead if, if you don't stop,
because you're going to be allthese compliments and I'm loving
it Like, keep them coming.
You know, like, as a group andas instructor, you, you, I mean,
it just feels so good whensomeone was like yes, that was
so good.
And when girl whole classstarted saying that you're like
man, that's awesome, like thisis why I do what I do.
Thank you so much for giving me.

(11:15):
Now I don't need thatvalidation from others.
Right, I can validate myself, but it feels really good to have
that validation from otherswhen you pour so much into it
and you know, and you just, youjust see it from them and you
feel it from them.
And then one of them said yeah, daniel, you are so rowdy today.
Rowdy, that's a, that'ssomething, that a word I've

(11:35):
never been called before.
And I was like, oh, I was rowdy, huh, that's like okay.
She was like, yeah, and whenyou get rowdy, like we get rowdy
.
And I was like, okay, that'sreally great.
But and she was like, can youremember all of this?
For, like the next class, like, are you gonna remember all the
choreography?
Are you gonna remembereverything you did?

(11:56):
And I said, of course I'm not.
I just came up with this duringclass.
I'll try my best, I'll use thesame playlist and I'll try to
make it happen again.
But here's what I know to betrue.
I showed up to that classthinking about that quote that

(12:20):
was on my shirt throughout theentire class that said the world
needs you.
I wasn't trying to be the bestfitness instructor Although a
lot of times I really do putthat pressure on myself but I
wasn't trying to be that.
I wasn't trying to be amotivational speaker, I wasn't

(12:44):
trying to be a cool human.
I wasn't trying to be anythingother than me.
And so I asked myself who do Ineed me to be today going into
this class?
What do I need from me?

(13:04):
And I needed that extra hypeand I needed jumping a little
bit higher and I needed to bepushed a little bit harder to
challenge myself.
And I needed to act a fool andlet loose as I showed up to that

(13:26):
class, being true to me, me anddoing what I needed to do for
me in that moment.
And what happened was that, because I was so me and doing
what I needed, I gave the restof the class an experience that

(13:52):
they are obsessed with, thatthey loved, that brought them
joy, that brought themexcitement, that brought out
their own ability to act a fooland laugh and have fun and push
themselves to the next level, because not only were they
telling me how fun this was andhow rowdy it was, but they were
also telling me how hard it was,and we often think that those

(14:16):
two things go against each other.
How can you have so much funand also feel like something was
so hard?
They feel like they would be onopposite ends of the spectrum.
But what we found in thatmoment was that when we push
ourselves and we challengeourselves and we work really,
really, really hard, we also doit in a way that is fun and
joyful.

(14:36):
It makes our ourselves, feelreally, really proud of
ourselves.
And I can tell you that classwouldn't have happened the way
that it did If I didn't gothrough that whole mind thing.
I'm just gonna call it a thing.
This whole mind thing is I wasdriving there thinking, okay,
the world needs you, but theworld doesn't need you as

(14:59):
somebody else.
The world doesn't need you topretend to be something else.
The world doesn't need the youthat you think everybody else
wants.
The world needs you.
The world needs you exactly asyou are, and the world needs you
to ask yourself what do youneed in this moment and how can

(15:23):
you show up for you?
Because when you show up foryou in a big way, you show up
for others in an even bigger way.
So I want to leave you withthis the world needs you, but
what do you need from you today?
And instead of, like everyother day, where you ask

(15:47):
yourself, how can I be a bettermom, how can I be a better
sister, how can I be a betterspouse, how can I be a better
employee and a volunteer and abusiness owner, instead of
asking yourself how can I bebetter in all of these roles, if
instead you say how can I be abetter me?
Because when I'm a better meand I know what I need for
myself and I lean into that andI step into who I am, I

(16:12):
automatically become better inall of those other areas of my
life.
Your kids don't need you to bethe best mom, they need you to
be the best you.
Your employer doesn't need tobe you to be the best employer,
they need employee.
They need you to be the bestyou.
Your spouse doesn't need you tobe the best spouse.

(16:33):
They need you to be the bestyou, because when you're the
best you, you are the best atevery other role, because you
are who you are and you'restanding in your power in that
moment.
So I want you to imagine youhave that shirt on today.
It's a black tank top.
It has red writing and it sayswho or I just forgot it now

(16:57):
because I said it so often theworld needs, and that's written
in red and then the you iswritten in white.
The world needs you.
And I want you to imagine rightnow you put that tank top on,
you're rocking it, you're like, yes, girl, and then you step

(17:18):
into that next, wherever you'regoing right now, whether it's to
work, it's to being a mom, it'sto doing the dishes, it's to
going shopping.
It doesn't matter whereveryou're going.
Right now, you have your tanktop on.
Ask yourself who do I need tobe for me and do exactly that.

(17:48):
All right, sister, that was myexperience.
That's the tank top and that isthe message of the day, and I
hope that you will remember thisand I hope that you will use
this as you go through andremember that the effects of
this new mindset, the mindsetshift, is so powerful and it

(18:12):
will impact positively thehumans around you, just like it
did for me.
So remember, my friend, theworld needs you Now.
Go, stand in your power andgive you what you need.
You are pretty powerful, neverfreaking.
Forget that and I'll see youhere next time.
Bye, friend.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
