The Trivia Podcast, where I askyou questions about stuff you might not even
know, but you just might ifyou watch TV and movies. Hello and
welcome to the TV and Movie TriviaPodcast. I'm your host, Bryan Sheen,
and in this episode, I'll beasking questions from Aladdin. Our guests

(00:26):
today are Jimmy and Ed from theDisney Nerds Podcast. Guys, thank you
for being here, thank you somuch for inviting us, and a little
frightened but also excited I have toshare those same failings. I'm looking forward
to this though. I'm big ontrivia, so hopefully do well. And
I hate to set you up toomuch here, but I mean, your

(00:50):
guys, is whole spiel, wholewhole shin dig is Disney though, right,
you guys are supposed to know everything, right, There is so much
so that's a tough one to say. There is a ton of Disney.
I'll give you that, and wetry. But you know what, once
they started adding Star Wars and Marvel, well it's just out of control now,

(01:10):
so many, so many fandoms,so little time. So what all
do you cover in the Disney Nerdspodcast. There is, as you said,
so much Disney out there. Wetry to cover it all. That's
kind of our motto as we talkabout all things Disney because there is so
much So with a show a week, we've got plenty of time to talk
about everything. Yeah, I wouldsay that we you know, we have

(01:30):
a strong focus on the Disney parks, specifically Walt Disney World, but we
will do an episode of a podcaston just about anything that falls under the
Disney umbrella, including you know,Star Wars. Like Ed said, Star
Wars and Marvel. You're certainly nevergoing to run out of content, No,

(01:53):
not at all. No, Andthere's always something new coming out.
That's that was about to say,Yeah, they keep throwing new stuff at
us too, So it's it's it'sit's constant. Sure. Is there anything
in particular you're looking forward to thisyear? I think the biggest thing right
now in Walt Disney World is theopening of the Tron ride that's going to

(02:13):
be in tomorrow end and the MagicKingdom, So we're looking forward to that.
That's next month, I think, yeah, April fourth, that will
be opening. They're already starting todo cast member previews currently, so that's
a that's a big, big deal. It's the Number one attraction and Shang
and Shanghai Disney. That sounds likea really cool concept. You know,

(02:38):
the idea of Tron is very cool, but I didn't think it was that
popular a thing to dedicate an entireride to it. Well, they've just
announced they're going to be doing athird movie, so um, maybe some
cross pollination there, Yeah, becausewe were debating the same thing when they
announced it. It's like they haveto have something in their pocket and there

(03:00):
you go, a third movie.Oh um, who did we just hear?
What is going to be in it? Jared Lato is gonna be yeah,
Jared Leto is gonna be yep.And they announced that he's going to
be in the Neutron movie. AndBrian, I don't know if you've seen
anything about the Tron attraction, butit's basically Tron light cycle runs, so
it's a rollercoaster but you're sitting ona light cycle. That's so cool.

(03:24):
Yeah, I did not know that. That's really cool. Well, speaking
of Disney and stuff, do youguys have a favorite animated Disney moment?
That's a tough one. There's somuch out there. Time. If I
had to go with anything, it'sprobably gonna be classic Sorcerer's Apprentice Mickey.
That was from Fantasia way back inthe forties, and that character survived so

(03:47):
long. That's probably one of myfavorites. Wow, not a moment or
a thing that has been said onthe show before. I h My favorite
Disney animated movie is Beauty and theBeast okay, which, interestingly enough,
I just recently got to meet PajoHowra at fan Expo here in New orleanss

(04:10):
was like the comic cun here.Sure, But that intro to Beauty and
the Beast with the music in thestained glass, really, that's like one
of my favorite things. Just thatmusic. I mean, just as soon
as you hear that music, youknow right where it's coming from. Sure,
I don't know if I could singit off the top of my head,
but it is super recognizable. Absolutely. Yeah. That piano is just

(04:32):
very It's just beautiful. M allright. Well, before we get started
with trivia, to my current listenersout there, thank you so much for
listening. Make sure you rate andsubscribe and get some friends to do the
same. You can send in yourown trivia email the show and sign up
for my patron to get four sweetbonus episodes a month. But more on
that. After some trivia, Jimmyand Ed are you ready to go?

(04:57):
Let's go? All right, I'mgonna try not to scare you too much
here. We're gonna start with theeasy round. Question number one, Who
is Jafar's animal companion? And whois Aladdin's animal companion? Questionber two?
What mean nickname do people call Aladdin? Questionmber three? Singing Genie introduces himself

(05:19):
to Aladdin and tells him what questionberfour? What does Genie say he would
wish for? Questioner five? Whatdoes Prince Ali sing to Jasmine as they
ride the magic Carpet? Questioner sixwhat does Aladdin tricks Jafar into making his

(05:43):
third wish? And part two ofthat? Why does this backfire on Jaffar?
Question seven? What animal does Jafarturn into during his final battle with
Aladdin? And question eight? Whatis Aladdin's third wish? All right,

(06:06):
how are you guys feeling good? For the most part? Okay? I
think okay? All right? Goodgood, good well. Going back to
question one, who is Jaffar's animalcompanion and who is Aladdin's animal companion?
Uh Iago and Aboo Iago and Abooare correct. I know that was two

(06:27):
answers, but I feel like Ican only give you one point for that.
You know, okay, I'm surethat's right. This is a Laddin
basics here, they're the easies.I have to say, Gilbert Godfried as
Iago is amazing. He is heis really good. That you're you're so
correct, actually just between him.Yes, there's so many great there's so

(06:47):
many great casts that in this moviethat make it so good. So you're
you're right, though, gilb erccarfordis great. That that is true.
I love everybody's voice in this, but it is something about these really distinct
voices that I just love. Umrecording Hercules, Trivia hearing Danny DeVito as
Phil is awesome, Emperor's New Groovewith Patrick Warburton as cronk Uh. Their

(07:12):
voices are just so distinct and unforgettable, and I love that they're in these
movies. It's great. It reallyis. Question two, what mean nickname
do people call Aladdin? Ed?You want to go? You want me
to take it? I was goingto say street Urchin, but what do
you got? Street rat? Streetrat is what I was looking for.
Boom yep, which I believe hedoes say he doesn't like right he sings

(07:35):
that in a song Yeah something streetrat, I don't like that? Yeah,
yes, yes, Oh I didlearn this recently. Uh did you
guys hear who Aladdin's looks are basedoff of? No Good? I heard
that Aladdin's looks and features were basedoff of Tom Cruise? Interesting? Yes,

(07:59):
I did hear that, and hewas based on Back to the Future
originally, where they had to changethat. Well, whoa, what do
you mean by that? Back tothe future? But Marty McFly Michael J.
Fox interesting originally and they said that, yes he was that way,
but now we need to make himlook like this Tom Cruise very good?
Interesting? Okay, So what doesthat mean? Maybe like slightly lighter hair,

(08:22):
a little bit more serious okay, not a comical maybe very cool?
Question three? Singing Genie introduces himselfto a Laddin and tells him, what,
You've never met a friend like me. You ain never had a friend
like me, is correct? Youknow what I can't believe while mentioning voices
here, we didn't mention Robin Williamsas Genie. Oh, we're waiting for

(08:43):
Genie to be introest here Oh yeah, that's I was going to bring that
up, and I didn't because hebecause you hadn't. We hadn't really talked
about him. One of the oneof the interesting things about that is though,
that that that he not only doesthe voice of the Genie, but
he also does the voice of thestreet merchant in the beginning, and that

(09:05):
whole thing was ad libbed. Ohreally, So they just let him run
with it, and he put thatwhole thing together like on his own.
That's so cool. Again, thisis a reason I started this podcast,
just because I enjoy answering these typesof questions, but also to hear what
you guys can bring as far astrivia goes as well. I love learning
these things about movies. Speaking ofRobin Williams, though I heard that he

(09:30):
wasn't even going to do the partuntil Animators kind of showed him his comedy.
I think they took one of hisspecials and animated Genie over it and
kind of showed him what they coulddo with it. Yeah, they did.
He was reluctant to do it becausehe was afraid they were going to
publicize it and make a lot ofmoney off of selling toys and stuff.

(09:50):
Like that. So that was oneof the big things. He went into
it saying, hey, I'll doit, but you can't do any of
the merchandising on the genie or myvoice. Wow, which was interesting.
Yeah, that is interesting. Idon't think I knew that. They of
course didn't pay attention to that, and he all got mad at him,
but that happened. That reminds meof an interesting George Lucas tidfit that and

(10:11):
this is what we do, Brian, we run off on tangents, but
I get it. After the successof the first Star Wars movie, a
new hope twentieth Century Fox came towent to George Lucas said yes, we
want to do the sequel. We'regoing to pay you this much more,
and he said, no, no, don't pay me anymore. But what
I do want is all the merchandiserights. And they're like, sure they
didn't. I mean back then theydidn't really excell merchandise from movies. But

(10:35):
it was like the most genius thingGeorge Lucas ever did. Because Star Wars
merchandise went bananas. I was DarthVader for Halloween. I had a lightsaber
for years. Yeah, think aboutall the look collectable figures and the you
know all that stuff that they soldall that, so he got all that
money went directly to George Lucas. That's awesome. That's why they make a

(10:56):
joke about it in Spaceballs, becauseGeorge Luke gave Spaceballs the right, like
some liberty to kind of copy theStar Wars story, but said, you
can't sell any merchandise. So inthe movie, though there's start, there's
Spaceballs the merchandise. So they evenmade a play on that, and that
the cereal. That's amazing. Ialways got to kick out of I love

(11:18):
Spaceballs, and I got to kickout of that part of the movie.
But I didn't know that's why itwas there. Yeah, good stuff.
Question before, what does Genie sayhe would wish for what we all want?
Freedom? Yeah? Freedom is correct? Question or five? Another song
here? What does Prince Ali singto Jasmine or I guess they sing together

(11:43):
as they ride to the magic carpet. A whole new world, A whole
new world is correct? Again?Just excellent songs here, very much so
why actually watching it again reminded mehow good these songs were. I was
also just I'm also rewatching Waking SleepingBeauty, which is the documentary about the

(12:05):
Disney Foam renaissance. You know, just that era of films and the mount
of the music between all of thesefilms that came out from Alan Mankin and
Howard Ashmans are pretty amazing. Cool. Question six, what does Aladdin trick
Jaffar into making his third wish?He turns in He makes Jafar turn into
a genie, The all powerful geniemade into a genie? Is correct.

(12:30):
I'll give you a bonus point here. I have written that Jaffar's first idea
is to do something else. Hewants to marry Jasmine, have Jasmine fall
in love with him. Is correct. I'll give you two points for that.
Cool nice and a part two ofthat. Why does turning into a
genie backfire on Jaffar great cosmic powers? Anybody who live in space? Absolutely

(12:54):
correct? He gets sucked into thelamp? Is correct? Man a line
for line there, Man, wellduring that scene? Question p seven,
what animal does Jafar turn into duringhis final battle with Aladdin? He turns
into a big cobra. A bigcobra is correct. I feel like that's

(13:15):
always a scene I can remember fromthis movie. Absolutely oh yes, Gary.
Personally, I haven't seen this range, these types of movies, probably
since I was a kid, butI can always remember that giant cobra wrapping
up Aladdin. Absolutely yea. Andquestion for eight part one here, what
is Aladdin's third wish? He wishesfor the Genie's freedom? The Genie's freedom

(13:39):
is correct, and a part twoof that which I couldn't ask before.
What happens to Genie when he's freeis his binders pop off, the bracelets
pop off, and he goes toDisney World. So so I was going
to bring this up, Brian, because years ago we h on the Disneyer's

(14:01):
Podcast we interviewed Jerry Reese, whois a famous He's Disney animatorum but he
also directed things like the Brave LittleToaster. But he also a bunch of
theme park attractions he did the directionfor, and one of them was Walter

(14:22):
Cronkite and Robin Williams in a itwas the pre show to a attraction and
MGM Studios called Back to Neverland andRobin Williams in that wore that yellow Hawaiian
shirt, the goofy hat and thebig camera and that scene and Aladdin is

(14:43):
actually to pay homage to that attractionthat was in Hollywood Studios, that was
there, and kind of they madehim look like because it's Robin Williams.
They made him look like he didin that and that in that film.
Man, that's so cool. I'venever heard this before. Where do you
guys hear this stuff? Everything hasa little story behind it. It's crazy.
We were lucky enough to interview JerryReeves who and he Jerry is.

(15:07):
He directed U Steve Martin in theDisneyland like fiftieth Anniversary, he directed,
He directed all like Felicia Rishad andthe Dinosaur pre show. He directed all
the people in the Alien Encounter preshow. So we were lucky enough to
have him on our show and hetold us that story. And he also
does a great Robin Williams and WalterCronkite impression. So just it was a

(15:33):
cool touch because I didn't know thatuntil then. And then so now you
can even you can YouTube back toNeverland the Magic of Disney Animation, and
you can see that little that littlepre show with Robin Williams. He's playing
like he's just a tourist, sohe's got the goofy hat so it's great.
Oh that's so cool. Uh.Well, guys, at the end
of the easy round, you areeleven for eight right now? Wow,

(15:56):
nice good number. I give allthe credit to ed Well. I've seven
medium questions next here, starting withquestion er nine, what can ja'far do
with his staff? Questioner ten? What does the cave tell Aladdin before he
enters? Question eleven? The cavestarts collapsing when Aboo does what? Questioner

(16:25):
twelve? What is Aladdin's first wish? And part two of that what does
Genie turn Abou into after granting thatwish? Questioner thirteen. What does Prince
Ali say to Jasmine before going onthe flying carpet that makes her look at
him with familiarity? Questioner thirteen wheredoes Genie send to Jaffar's lamp? And

(16:52):
questioner fifteen for maybe one, two, three, four points? Here?
Where does the movie Aladdin take place? Going back to question nine, what
can you Far do with his staff? He can hypnotize the Sultan hypnotize people?
Is correct? There's a scene lateron where I think Aladdin smashes it,

(17:15):
and I'm like, how has noone done this earlier? Come on,
guys, nobody figured it out.Question for ten. What does the
cave tell Aladdin before he enters?Don't touch anything? I'll take it other
than the lamp. Other than thelamp. Don't touch anything, touch nothing
but the lamp is correct. Tellyou what. There had to be more

(17:37):
than one lamp in there, right, you would have thought would think there
was a mess in there. Itwas a mess in there, and that
lamp was maybe half a mile back. Easy. They had to fly there,
and if they didn't step on thecarpet, they never would have found
it. Sure, yep. Yep. Question for eleven. The cave starts
collapsing when Aboo does what he touchesof forbidden treasure for Ruby, Yeah,

(18:02):
I had it, picks up abig Ruby is correct again, another scene
that always for some reason sticks withme. I can see him like being
entranced by it, picks up andthen this like look of doom. Yeah,
the carpets trying to hold him back. Yeah, he's just so,
he's just so programmed to steal jewels. Eddy, he can't he can't get
past his basic instinct. Yep.Question for twelve. What is Aladdin's first

(18:26):
wish? He wants to be aprince to be made a prince is correct,
and part two of that, whatdoes Jeanie turn Aboo into after making
a Laddin a prince? An elephant? Quite the change? Yes, big
time? Did you know? Iforget what language it is, but aboo
means elephant. Oh, I didn'tnot know that you're out of here?

(18:48):
No way, I did not knowthat. That's so cool. And Brian
tried to throw a trick questions atus because you would think getting out of
the cave was And that's what Aladdindid. He tricked the genie by getting
him out of the cave without awish because yeah, because when he gets
out of the Genie says, no, you've used one. I didn't wish
for that. You did that onyour own. I try, I might

(19:15):
try and get you here in there? Yeah, oh my goodness, watching
mad. Question for thirteen. Whatdoes Prince Ali say to Jasmine before going
on the flying carpet that makes herlook at him with familiarity? I'm thinking
it's the trust. Do you trustme? Yeah? Do you trust me?
Yeah? Do you trust me ascorrect? Yeah? Nice? Question

(19:36):
for fourteen where does Genie send Jafar'slamp to the cave of Wonders. The
Cave of Wonders is correct, andquestion for fifteen. I think this improving
this Ada living that Robin Williams wasdoing here, which is why this question
is worth four points. Where doesAladdin take place in the movie. I

(19:56):
was going to start with Agraba, but the way you just said that,
I'm not sure. Now, RobinWilleo, Well, apparently Robin Williams,
like you said here, gives ita whole bunch of other names as well.
The city of Oh my goodness, they even did a play on that
in this song for the Broadway show. You already do get one for Agriba.

(20:17):
But he's a city of this, this and one other thing. How
you got me? Geez, noworries. We have city of mystery,
of enchantment, and the other thingis a kind of a sillier thing.
M The last thing he says isthe finest merchandise this side of the river.
Jordan, Oh, that's good, very cool. You still got Agriba

(20:41):
though, So you are nineteen forfifteen right now? Nice? Good,
awesome. I have five hard questionsleft. Okay, here we go,
oh my goodness. Starting with questionfor sixteen, who can enter the Cave
of Wonder? Who does the cavesay can enter? Question seventeen, Why
are suitors approaching Jasmine? Question eighteenJafar prevents Jasmine, Abou and the Magic

(21:08):
Carpet from getting the lamp at theend by doing what to them? Question
nineteen? What other Disney movies arereferenced in this one? Especially when Ganie
doubts Aladdin will wish him free? And question twenty for another four points?

(21:29):
What does Genie say Aladdin can't wishfor? Going back to question sixteen,
who can enter the Cave of Wonder? The diamond and the ruff? The
diamond in the rouff is what Iwas looking for. Absolutely correct. He
grabbed the easy one too. I'mnot carrying you all night, buddy.

(21:53):
Question over seventeen, Why are suitorsapproaching Jasmine? Now? I guess it's
a couple of months before her birthdayand she has to be married before it.
I'm going to give it to you. She does have to be married
by her next birthday, but it'snot in a couple of months. Our
cup was it was very short amountof time. Three days. They say,
oh nice, And I have tosay, as far as this scene

(22:17):
goes, I think This was thewhole problem here with the movie. I
don't think this movie would have happenedif the Saltan would have just changed his
mind about changing the law at thebeginning. Well, he makes it such
an easy decision at the end thatyeah, you wonder why what was the
big conflict? That why couldn't youdo it before? Right as you said,

(22:37):
there would be no movie, nomovie? Yea for three points here?
Question were eighteen. Jafar prevents Jasmine, Abou and the Magic Carpet from
getting the lamp at the end bydoing what to each of them? So
he turned and boo into the littlemonkey with the with the tambourines. Yes,
a toy? And help is thiswhere he puts Jasmine into the hourglass?

(23:03):
Jasmine into the hourglasses too? Okay? Oh, and he unravels the
carpet and he unravels the carpet.Good for three points? All right,
job well done? For another possiblemaybe one two three points here? Question
for nineteen. What other Disney moviesare referenced in this one, especially when

(23:25):
Jeanie doubts Aladdin will wish him free. See now I wasn't sure about that
part of the question. The firstpart. Then I saw Sebastian at one
point, and so I was goingto say that part of it, but
I definitely saw Sebastian biting Jeanie's fingerwhen he's looking through a recipe book.
The Beast is also in there fromBeauty and the Beast. I didn't notice

(23:45):
the Beast. Where was he?I think, let me double check this,
but I'm almost positive. But asfar as the second part of the
question, I'm not sure what you'relooking for there. Well, what if
I worded it this way? Whatif Genie thinks that Aladdin is lying?
Oh, Pinocchio, he turned intoPinocchio, he turns into Pinocchio. Sebastian

(24:07):
bites his finger, and the otherone's not a Disney movie, I guess,
But I'm I guess. I'm wonderingwhat other Disney property was hinted at
at the end. I believe oneof you guys already mentioned it in Genie's
casual wear. Oh so all DisneyWorld, Yeah, the parks, the
parks. The goofy hat was reallywhat I was looking for, which I

(24:30):
think you guys already mentioned, andit's kind of on the borderline of really,
I guess what I'm looking for here, but I'm gonna give it to
you. So there is a partand Aladdin where there's just like a stack
of a bunch of animals and thebeasts from Beauty and the Beast is in
there. I think they're toys.At one point they're playing with them.
Where yeah, there might be justtoys, but he's definitely in there.

(24:53):
The scene where the salt and isstacking his animal figures. Okay, the
scrolls up and you can see beastsfrom Beauty and the Beast is one of
the creatures on the left hand sideof his pyramid. Well, I have
no choice but to give you anotherpoint for that, and that takes us
to our last question here question fortwenty what does Genie say Aladdin can't wish

(25:15):
for? He starts out by sayinghe can't wish for more wishes. That's
the first thing he says. Andthen he says, there's three additional rules,
right, you can't wish somebody,I can't kill anybody, I can't
bring anybody back from the dead, and I can't make anybody love you.
Those are all absolutely correct. Youare ending trivia with the score of thirty

(25:37):
two out of twenty Congratulations, excellent, very very cool. Yeah, I
couldn't. I couldn't have done itwith our ched Same here, Same here,

New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
