Twelve simple men following ONE remarkable and divine man, Jesus Christ. twelve:ONE is a podcast exploring what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ, hosted by Amy Kirkpatrick. Have you ever considered what you would do if Jesus asked you today to leave it all in order to become one of his students/disciples? The call to follow Christ isn't just for the 12 men of the past, but for each of us to study, observe, absorb and be transformed by Christ with the same dedication as the 12 once did. twelve:ONE is a podcast that encourages young believers to commit, follow and find their way to becoming a learner of Christ. twelve:ONE is an exploration of the lessons and teachings from scholars, pastors, theologians, and good conversations that have shaped and molded Amy's faith. Together we can all be students of Christ and it's through shared wisdom that we grow, challenge and equip each other to push on towards becoming true disciples.
It's the time of year to reflect on all our blessings. It's good to be reminded of what we have and what God has given us. But years ago, I was challenged with a thought. Can we be thankful and still be rotten towards others? Can we say we are thankful for our marriages, our families, our jobs, our children and do a remedial job? If the people were are thankful for don't know we are thankful....does it even matter ho...
Can you imagine what it would have been like after God parted the Red Sea and all the people on the other side sat frustrated at how sore their feet were from walking? How frustrated would you be to see the Israelites complaining as they are literally standing in a miracle? The Israelites are not the only ones to do this. We can get so focused on our complaints, frustrations and annoyances that we don't even stop our rant to s...
This world is full of comparisons these days. You can't go a few hours without seeing someone on social media, at church or the store that has a bunch of what you don't have. Do we all wish we were more confident? Maybe more disciplined or talented or put together. We all have our flaws and places we can work on. But can I ask a question? If we had it all together....would we need God? I mean, Jesus was PERFECT and He sti...
Let's be real, it isn't easy to receive help from others. Each one of us scoff at the idea of asking for help, especially when it comes to something hard, gross or takes a lot of time. But we are called to serve right? I mean, isn't that who Jesus was? A holy and divine servant. Isn't that what the body of Christ is supposed to do? In the early church of Acts we see that they shared all things together as one bo...
It's normal to feel moments in life when God feels distant, inactive, or even alive in other people's lives but not our own. Stepping in Judges 6 we are introduced to Gideon who asked God the very question that has weighed on our own hearts. "If the Lord is with us then why has all this happened to us? Where are all his wonders that our ancestors told us about?" We are going to take a deeper look into this exact...
What is the desert? Is it a place that we find ourselves in and have to struggle out of? Is it the location of several bad things happening? So often our prayers are focused on the transition out of the desert. Yet, we find that God uses the desert in Scripture as the very location where He calls His people to grow, follow, trust, endure, submit, all of it. Remember the story of Hagar and Ishmael and how they became so desperate th...
Sometimes we can be so ungrateful for what God has given us. Sometimes we can be real "but" people. You read that right, "but" people. "Thanks God, I really appreciate what you've done for me, but....." Haven't we all wished that God would've done things different or wish He had moved faster or added in one detail. This is the story of the Manassites. They've finally have their prom...
In Joshua we here about the moment that each Israelite tribe finally gains posession of the land that was alotted to them by Moses. The Levites though....they don't really get a territory, but plots of land dispersed all through out Israel. They don't get an inheritance like the others. There inheritance is God....just God. Would we be content if we gain nothing but gained all of God. If we were rich in our relationship w...
We all know that Abraham wasn't a perfect man. In Genesis 20 we see him go through repeated offenses. But this time we get to hear his defense. When we hear his excuses can we say that we are much different? Do we not have much of the same doubts that plague our minds? Do we not become indignant with our position in life, the workplace, our families and sometimes make a dramatic scene of our hardships? When I read Genesis 20 I...
It seems like everyone I know has gone through a time when they needed to redefine themselves. And with that comes redefining how we connect with God. Whether it be a new job, moving to a new state, having a baby, getting married, we all have periods where we have to "relearn" how to connect with God. This episode is about the questions that we can ask ourselves to help us focus in and diagnose how we need to evolve in or...

If you struggle with God's wrath in the old testament, know that you are not alone. Throughout my years teaching I have had so many students who have grown up hearing the stories of Noah and Sodom and Gamorrah and wrestle with the goodness of God. Today we talk about God's judgement and how we can reconcile God's character and love.

For anyone who has spent years or even decades on their knees praying for one specific prayer, they know the doubts that can creep into the mind. Hearts at times will be full of faith and at other times they become hardened to the idea that God will ever deliver. Here we see Sarah in that exact place. Maybe a little too relatable, but the beauty is....we can see God bless her anyway. We can see Him address her doubts not with anger...
We all remember our first car. Somehow that vehicle becomes a part of us growing as a person. Our favorite adventures, our worst decisions, best moments, and a million firsts all happen in that car. We love our cars and trucks and we treat them as an extension of ourselves. So why don't we treat ourselves with the same value? Why do we avoid spending the time, money and investment of maintaining our faith the same way we inve...
Ah, the waiting....after 25 years we find Abram laughing about his promise and set with a challenge in obedience. It's difficult to stay true to what we know to be right as we push through months, years, and sometimes decades in hopes of finding answered prayers.

In this episode we explore the story of Hagar and Ishmael. We focus our attention on how Sarai and Abram handle the waiting game and how we can learn from their mistakes as we too struggle to stay strong in our own game of patience.

It's so easy to allow tough situations to own us. Often the circumstances around us can determine our mood, emotions, thoughts, and demeanor. But can we change our reaction from being defeated just by changing our posture? Can we simply look up and set our eyes on Jesus? Is it really that simple?

Encouragement, a covenant, and some bad news. In this episode we explore God's character and how He encourages us through the hard times. We see God's ability to ground us when we are disheartened and He displays through His omniscient power how we can trust in Him. God isn't afraid to be honest and tell us of the hardships we may face, but we can take comfort in knowing that He will endure it with us.
It seems like Christians are divided against almost everyone these days, including ourselves. It seems like everyone is frustrated with everyone else and it's become a norm to have a cynical mindset of others that are different than us. But are we viewing them as Jesus would have? Do we need to change our perspective from looking at different people groups not as threats but at opportunity to share the gospel?

Some of us have some nasty garages. You know what I am talking about. The ones with storage all the way to the garage doors, items teetering in perfect balance...and just straight up filthy. Well on this podcast we are going to compare the nastiness within some of our garages to the nastiness that's within our hearts. God has plan for a clean up party if only we are wiling to take him up on His offer.
