Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's two dudes with attitudes of wrestling podcasts with Ryan
Enjoys Wrestling and m WO and it is time for
report Card jobs our segment where we are gonna grade
everything ae W for the week of July nineteen, twenty
twenty five. Will pick a couple each and give it honest, fair,
(00:20):
grade A through F Ryan.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Are you excited? Are you ready? I am? I am.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
It's been a good week of AW. They brought it
on Collision, they brought it on Dynamite, all in was
a good was a success.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
So let's get this party started. Man hit that music, bruh.
Speaker 4 (00:37):
Two dudes with attitudes. Let's go, two dues and attitudes
rootsless aggressively speaking. So let's do this with Brian and
didn't they here they get your attention to five star
broadcash stalk to that and whether it's the e or
solidly the two dudes with the attitudes of Brinnan Hey
get the point. Ye, So on time of Lackey, listen
(00:59):
to the podcast when it get it happened.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
Yes, So we're gonna do report card. It could be
things from this week of AW are things that I've
been brewing overtime in ae W but are you ready, Ryan?
Speaker 2 (01:17):
I am. I am ready, and let's do this first.
As always, let's hear it.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
All right, let's let's start with start at the top
of it, and you give me a grade for the
Hangman Page Redemption Tour arc.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
That's so funny because I had one just like that,
But here it is all right. I'm gonna be ballsy
and I'm gonna say a plus. I have nothing but
loved Hangman's Redemption Tour.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
I loved the build up to it.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
I love Hangman winning. I love the feel of Cody
Roads and Roman Reigns and that whole vibe. I love
when he opened up the briefcase finally and boom it
was the belt and you had tears in his eyes.
I loved this pro bo after that. I love the
fact that they're gonna rematch on Dynamite next week. I
have loved every single second of it. And I was
one of the those haters of Hayman's first run. I
thought it was trash. I thought it was one of
(02:03):
the worst ones. I just didn't think he was ready.
He is now more than ready, and he is ready
to be the face of AW. I think he's gonna
be that, dude. I think it'll show with the AEW
moving forward and the build that they have, so yeah,
I'm I'm all for it. I thought that this has
been I don't. I couldn't look at this build and
say I would have done this better. I would have
done that better.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
Maybe the Texas.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
Deathmatch should, but I think they're making up for that
next week on Dynamite. So and people loved it, so
I would there's nothing and if there's nothing to fix
a plus, bro, Yeah, no, I think it was one.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
Of the best stories Aw's ever told, between that and
Mariah May Tony Storm and the Hollywood ending there and
all that stuff. So a plus for sure. Fantastic story,
fantastic conclusion to a great story. And hopefully the story
continues with Hangman Page, you know, because he's you know,
he's righted a lot of wrongs, but he's still wronged
(02:57):
a lot of people. So everyone can't forgive him on
this tour, and I'm curious to see what this means
for him in Darby Allen for example, and him and
Brian Danielson for example, moving forward in him and several
other people, and I'm ready to see him versus MJF
again because he doesn't seem to care about the Hangman
Page Redemption Tour because he.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
Wants what's his, which is the Triple B. So I
like all of this. I like the direction that Aw's
going in with their stories.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
All right, are you ready? I have one similar You're ready?
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Yeah? Go for it, yes, sir? All right?
Speaker 1 (03:26):
I want you to give me a grade on John
Moxley's last title run.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
Man. That's okay.
Speaker 3 (03:34):
I'm gonna get some hate for this because I know
people did like they disliked his championship reign.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
In a big way. But I'm actually gonna give it
a B plus. I think it was I think it
was really really good.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
John Moxley was at his best. He cut some of
the best promos that he's ever cut in his career.
He looked the best he looked. He had the physique
of a champion. He carried himself very well. I like
the fact that, you know, a he put the briefcase
title in a briefcase and until somebody was deemed worthy, uh.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
He he didn't show it off.
Speaker 3 (04:09):
I like the little nuances that they did where he
never changed the side plates after beating Brian Danielson for it.
And that's when when that page play, when hang in
Page beat him. He you know, he opened the briefcase
and there it is. There's Brian Danielson's title in there,
which was just you know, added little nuances there.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
But this, you know, people people sleep on this. How
great this title run was. Was Darby Allen a main
event player before this John Moxley title run?
Speaker 1 (04:34):
No, he was.
Speaker 3 (04:35):
He was in tag teams with Staying, he was in
TNT championship matches. He was the guy, but he wasn't
the guy.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
And now he is the guy.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
In ae W with the Hangman Adam page, Hangman Adam page,
you could argue wasn't really a main event player before
the John Moxley story took off. You know, you look
at other people, Orange Cassidy, who had to change a
little bit of his character and a little bit of
is you know, his gimmick to get even with John Moxley.
He started wearing darker pants and darker clothes and people
(05:06):
when he comes back from his injury, people are gonna
pop loud for him.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
So this story actually accomplished quite a bit.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
Of what it set out to, which was aw was
getting complacent and it was aa w was you know,
drowning in the ratings, and they were because people were
getting too comfortable, which they exactly were. And aw's had
the best, some of its best storytelling under John Moxley.
They've had some of the best ratings under John Moxley.
They've had some of the best crowd involvement with John
(05:35):
Moxley as a champ as champion, and they had some
of the best characters move up the ranks with John
Moxley as champion.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
So I'm gonna give it a B plus. It wasn't perfect.
Speaker 3 (05:45):
I think it started off with you know, going in
one direction and then something with the Shane McMahon stuff,
and that didn't work out, and so they had to
pivot and change course, and you know, got a little
awkward there. The coke match kind of was deplating a
little bit, but everything else help was fantastic.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
I don't know, I'm gonna saying, hey, brother, I loved it.
I think this is truly John Mixley's best run ever
in his career. I really mean that. I loved everything
about the Death Riders I did since day one. I
think to build everything he's done, I think his promos
got better, his physique got better. I think his matches
got better, and up until the Texas Death Match, he
was starting to stop relying on bleeding. He was just
(06:23):
having straight up matches. I enjoyed him in COVID Revolution
we were there live. I didn't hate it. I really
really like John Moxley's I think this is him and
I'm like, I said, I have a forecast of what
I think should happen to him moving forward.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
But I loved it.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
Man, I think he's there's been There was times where
he was cutting promos and stuff where I was like, dude,
this guy is like too good. Like we have other
people hang Man and Swerve and they're cutting good promos.
And then I listened to mox cut a promo and
I'm like, damn, dude, Like it's just it's it's like Roman,
you don't have to sit here and this that and
just this just your aura once you get that aura
(07:00):
and what's your that guy, Everything you say means something,
and mox is at that level now. And I loved it.
Even this past week. Talked for three minutes and everything
he said meant something. I felt, it felt every second
of it.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
So I love it.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
Good stuff, and I think I think before Adew, like
when Hangman Page first had the title, I think they
were booking on the fly. It felt like, Okay, we're
gonna how about you versus c him Punk for the
title Great? Sounds like a plan. How about you versus
Lance Archer for the championship?
Speaker 2 (07:28):
Great? Boss? Let's do it like?
Speaker 3 (07:29):
It was just completely They had no story, no direction.
It feels like everything about this story with John Moxley
was planned out from the very beginning. They had a
beginning time, they had a middle time, they had an
ending date, and it all worked out beautifully.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
So I thought it was great. I see what.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
Happens when you actually plan a story from start to finish,
you can get great results.
Speaker 1 (07:50):
Weird, All right, what's your what's your last report card?
You got for me?
Speaker 2 (07:54):
How great it? Let's go with Coke's feud versus FTR.
So far?
Speaker 1 (08:03):
Oh man, that's tough.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
So far.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
I'm gonna say. See And that's no diss on FTR
and Coke. But like I said, I don't. I don't
like what I liked.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
At first.
Speaker 1 (08:16):
I liked it because I thought, Okay, we're gonna get
Christian into the fold, and I was excited for that,
and I'm excited to see Christian and Cope back together
again and tag teaming, but that kind of got thrown away,
and now we have a babyface going out there and
hiring hitman to beat up on FTR instead of figuring
out babyface ways to get around it. I haven't really
enjoyed it. And unless we start hinting soon on him
(08:42):
getting attacked, we're just gonna have what FTR versus Cope
at forbidden or two on one, Like I don't I
don't see the reason why he's speeding with them. I
get it because they injured him, but he needs somebody.
We don't even have like a hint at anybody. Even
if you're gonna secretly bring in somebody from the ops
or something to back them up or whatever. Then they
get beat up and then it's like I need someone
(09:02):
to save the day. I have a match next week,
and then boom christ John Christian and he saves the day.
I'm for that, but we're not even doing that. It
just looks like some dude babyface who's too busy to
enough figure out a way and he's hiring people to
beat them up.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
I don't.
Speaker 1 (09:17):
It looks like it's more this feud is more for
Hurt Syndicate versus FTR and this tag team tournament than
it is for Cope and FTR. But I'm gonna go
see and I think that's generous.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
Yeah, I'm gonna go I'm gonna be a little bit
more generous. I'm gonna say a B minus because FTR
their heel turn has been fantastic and it all started.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
And they turned on theirs. Yes, and they they have
been great.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
And even Cope his promo last week was good, the
attack on Stokely was great. Even his return at all
in made sense, it was great. The thing this week
kind of took took it down, took it down on
the notch with the Hurt Syndicate and hiring them. But hopefully,
hopefully this is just a differ tactic and to where
(10:02):
he can finally put his hands on FTR, or maybe
he gets another tag team partner, maybe Daniel Garcia comes
and helps them or something. And because I don't think
Christian Cage is coming back into All Out, which is
in Canada, so I think that either or he's gonna
come back a forbidden door and they're going to announce
the Coping Cage versus the Hurt Syndicate at all out
(10:22):
for the Tag Team Championships. So I don't know how
they're gonna do it, but I give it a B minus.
I've been invested, and that's that's all I want. I
want to be invested in the story.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
All right, I'll give you that. I'll give you that.
When Christian comes back, it's gonna go A plus. I
guarantee you.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
Oh, that's what I said. Right now. I think it'll
get there, but I just don't think they're getting there
in the right momentum.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
Right, Yeah, it.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
Is all right. Last one, and you gotta be honest.
I want you to grade Rick Achet since he has
joined all Elite Wrestling.
Speaker 3 (10:58):
I'm gonna go D plus and I feel like I'm
being generous there plus C plus.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
Yeah, I'm gonna go C plus. I'm being very very generous.
You know, he's.
Speaker 3 (11:12):
He's had some I don't personally see the allure with Ricochet,
just like I don't see it with Kyle Fletcher. I
don't see it with Ricochet either, but the crowd seems
to buy into him, so he's doing something right.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
He gets the heat.
Speaker 3 (11:24):
They boo him every time they see him. He's all
over social media. He's defending AW left and right on
social media.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
He just feels like in WWE, he feels directionless at
the moment.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
He's trying to find a faction. He's trying to find
a home. He's had great matches with Swerve, He's had
great moments with so many other wrestlers, and and he's
had great matches. I'm not taking that away from him.
He's fantastic at what he does, for sure. It's just
his his character, his gimmick. There's a there's a lot
left to be desired. But you know, for whatever reason
he gets, he gets a reaction from the people.
Speaker 2 (11:59):
And I think that's what matters.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
You know, how do they react and you don't want
them quiet, you want them booing or cheering, and they
seem to boo. So he's doing something right that that
appeases the sickos out there.
Speaker 2 (12:12):
But I just don't see it.
Speaker 1 (12:14):
I mean, everybody gets cheered in AW or some kind
of reaction. I'm gonna give it a D plus. I
think it's been mediocre at best. I think it's proven
to him that he's showing us why WW didn't believe
in him and didn't let him cut mikes. I mean,
he basically says basic a shit. The crowd doesn't react
to is anymore. They're not doing it. They're not cheering
when he does it on every promo, and I don't
(12:35):
even think it's that. That's all he really does. He's
trying to live off that. He can't even come up
with a real cool catchphrase, you know what I mean,
he just does a stupid laugh. I'm just now who
he's teamed up with now, Like, where are we going
with this? This is his crew now? It just it
seems like Tony Kahn believed in them. It was giving
them kind of a rub, and now they're like, well, shoot,
I paid you a ton of money, so I need
(12:56):
to keep you on the screen until we get like
Orange Cassidy and stuff back. So I don't know, just
do something because he's not in any contention anymore. He
doesn't seem like a big time player, which he thought
he was gonna be because he left AEW because he
was gonna fight for titles and feud with Swerve and
this and that and what is he doing now? So yeah,
exactly so yeah, so I'm not I say, d plus
(13:18):
I've been. I think it's been laughable. And it's nothing
against his character in real life, just him in general
and a I mean, some people got it, some people don't.
The problem with him is that everything he does, people
in the organization do better, you know what I mean,
Like he ain't will ospray, so all his flippity dudeos
don't seem that bin no, thank you, and he stood
out in WWE because he was one of the few
(13:38):
people who was doing the flippity dude does.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
So yeah, yep, all right, Oh you got something, let's
hear I'm good. Oh you're good.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
All right. Well that's it. So that's it for the
