1970s Horror Films (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Jaws, Alien, Suspiria)

The second week of Spooky Season is here and we’re focusing on 1970s Horror Films! Before we dive into those, we recap our trip to Universal Studios where we visited Halloween Horror Nights, Universal Studios, and Islands of Adventure. If you haven’t been to HHN this year, we give a pretty good review of the houses we were able to go through without an Express Pass. When we go in the future, that’s something we won’t skimp on! We also heard some inside scoop from an employee about HHN, next year’s HHN, and Epic Universe. We also talk about our upcoming trip to the Chicago International Film Festival. To start our discussion of 1970s Horror Films, we have The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. We’d seen the 2003 version and we tried to remember the differences to the original. You can definitely see how this 1974 film influenced so many that came after it! We loved watching Jaws this week since we just saw the shark at Universal Studios. This movie from 1975 is another classic and we feel the realistic storytelling really holds up today. The same can be said for Alien. Even though this film was released in 1979, it still had a modern look (with exception to some technology and wardrobe). This franchise is iconic and you might remember Hannah talking about watching it in episode 85. Lastly, we watched the 1977 Italian film Suspiria. We both agree that this movie was stunningly beautiful, but the actual plot lost us at times.
