90s Rom Coms (She’s All That, 10 Things I Hate About You, Clueless, Pretty Woman + Man’s Best Friend Review)

To wrap up our back-to-school theme, we discuss some 90s rom coms that are based in high school/have a high school element. There will definitely be a part two to this one, so be sure to give us your suggestions! To start out the episode, we have to touch on Sabrina Carpenter’s new album, Man’s Best Friend. This was highly anticipated and we both enjoyed Short n’ Sweet, so we were looking forward to seeing the vibe of this album. Unfortunately, the vibe is pretty much the same, but we still thought the songs were fun. Hannah also watched 2001: A Space Odyssey and Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, and Ailish watched Arbitrage to get a feel for Richard Gere’s acting skills.

Neither of us really knew if we saw She’s All That or not, but after this watch, we know it’s one we won’t be visiting again. For a movie that should be fun and kinda silly, it feels like a lame parody film of the 90s rom coms that are actually good. The other three films we watched this week are absolute classics and would definitely make it in a rewatch list for the both of us. Clueless might have a couple questionable plot points, but overall, Cher is a character that has true depth and the chemistry of the cast is unmatched. Speaking of cast chemistry, 10 Things I Hate About You is a move where you’d actually think these actors were friends before filming. Yes, there are some exaggerated parts, but this movie really feels like high school and plays to your big, teen feelings. Last, but certainly not least, we have Pretty Woman. No, this one isn’t based on high school kids, but at one point Vivian does talk about how she didn’t graduate high school. Being that this one was from the very early 90s, there are some 80s influences here, but the movie still really holds up and makes us emotional at multiple points.
