While the second half of this episode is a little dark, the first half brings Disney talk, the 28 franchise, and Hannah’s Friday the 13th party. Hannah watched the live-action Snow White this week and…had some thoughts. This opened up a larger conversation about Disney’s compulsion to bring all their classic, animated films into the real world which hasn’t been successful overall. Maybe it’s just our nostalgia, but some things don’t need to be remade! We’re still on the fence about seeing 28 Years Later in theatres, but we both watched 28 Weeks Later and it got us excited about the third installment. Danny Boyle is back for this one, so there’s a good chance this one will have the same vibe as the first. We had a Friday the 13th this month and Hannah celebrated by introducing her sons to some classics. Does everyone remember Goosebumps and how scary some of those episodes were??
Sorry to bring everyone down with our talk of the end of the world this week! These movies ended up hitting a little closer to home than we initially expected which added another layer of terror. To start, we watched Threads: a 1984 movie about the aftermath of a nuclear attack in Sheffield, England. While we would never watch this movie again, we have to say, it was very well done and felt more like a documentary the majority of the time. Aside from the horror of this film, our main complaint was that it was a hair too long. Next, was Crimes of the Future from David Cronenberg. We were pleasantly surprised by this one and enjoyed Kristen Stewart’s role even though it was minor. Our favorite movie of the bunch was Melancholia. We’d heard about this one over the years, but had never seen it. Kirsten Dunst is really amazing here and we thought Lars von Trier made a beautiful film that depicted anxiety and depression really well.
