Millennial Comedies (American Pie, Wet Hot American Summer, Superstar, White Chicks)

Congratulations are in order to start this podcast as the news was released that Rihanna and A$AP Rocky welcomed a baby girl. That gives them three under three! We also had a very special announcement to share about the podcast. We’ll be attending the Chicago International Film Festival in October and we’re thrilled to watch some of the year’s most anticipated films! Hannah also shared that she rewatched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and had mixed thoughts about Johnny Deep, and watched Labyrinth and Pan’s Labyrinth. Can anyone tell us if those two movies are supposed to be related?

To start our week of Millennial Comedies, we have Wet Hot American Summer. This is a random and silly movie that really feels like an extended SNL skit. We’d love to see Bradley Cooper in a comedy role like this again! Superstar is another-centric movie. This one was based off an SNL skit and Mary Katherine Gallagher was iconic 10 years after this movie was released. As fans of Juicy Scoop with Heather McDonald, we’ve heard about the making of White Chicks many times and loved getting to see Heather’s cameo in action. We could really tell that women were involved in the writing of this movie, which we think helps this movie still bring the laughs today. Everyone knows how to make fun of themselves in this film, and we probably laughed the hardest on this watch. Lastly, we watched American Pie. This is another one that really made an impact culturally, but we agree that this style of comedy isn’t our top choice.
