Liz and Michelle are joined by singer, actor, television personality and Eurovision host Claire Sweeney. They chat about Claire’s upcoming role in Coronation Street and of course all things Eurovision including revealing what the ‘alternative scouse commentary is all about and why they think this year the UK might win!

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • There have been some great acts in Eurovision across the years who remain well known today, Cliff Richard, Sandy Shaw and Lulu to name a few!
  • Eurovision being hosted in the UK this year means a lot more of us will probably be watching, and reminiscing, over past years of the programme and what it meant to us.
  • Liverpool is the perfect city to host Eurovision, the birthplace of so many great musical acts and a real music hub.
  • There has been a search to find ‘the voice of Liverpool’ to co-host alongside Claire and she couldn’t be more excited by who has been chosen, a man named Paul Quinn with an encyclopaedic knowledge of Eurovision!
  • If you want to hear the alternative scouse commentary to Eurovision you just have to press the red button to hear Claire and Paul, you can also tune into Radio Merseyside.
  • Claire is everywhere at the moment because of Eurovision as well as, after manifesting for it for 15 years, a role on Coronation Street! Claire will be playing Tyrone’s mum and will be appearing on screens in June.
  • Singing was Claire’s first love and this is something she shares with her 8-year-old son Jaxon.
  • The UK hasn’t won Eurovision for over 25 years, Liz, Michelle and Claire think this year could well be the year!

BEST MOMENTS

“It’s fun to reminisce…it was such a part of our childhood I think”

“It’s lovely that the UK has stepped up and it’s going to be in Liverpool the home of such incredible music acts”

“I think we’re going to have a lot of ex-Eurovision artists turning up and in the vicinity”

“In 1974 the UK didn’t give any points to ABBA, isn’t that shocking when they won!”
