CT- skanning af afdøde personer har siden 2008 været fast rutine på Institut for Retsmedicin, Aarhus Universitet. Skanningen finder sted inden obduktionen af ligene, fordi CT-skanningen kan afsløre detaljer og give retsmedicinerne oplysninger, som de kan bruge til at målrette den efterfølgende obduktion. For eksempel viser CT-skanningen meget tydeligt, hvor et projektil eller andre metaldele gemmer sig i en krop. Skanningen kan også påvise luft i bughulen, hvis en lunge er punkteret som følge af et knivstik eller lignende. Disse eksempler og flere andre detaljer kan være vanskelige at lokalisere under en obduktion. Derfor er CT-skanninger af afdøde en stor landvinding for retsmedicinernes arbejde.
